But if I do what I do not want to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
But now it is no longer I who am doing it, but the sin living in me.
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to do what is good, I do not find.
For the good that I want to do I do not do; but the evil I do not want to do, this I practice.
But if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but the sin living in me.
Therefore I find this law, that when I wish to do the right thing, evil is right there with me.
For I delight in the law of God in my inner being.
But I see a different law in my members, waging war against the law of my mind, and capturing me by the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with the mind serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
