¹⁸ And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against thee.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price thereof: let me only, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.

²⁰ And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

²¹ Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

²² And they journeyed from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came unto mount Hor.

²³ And Jehovah spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor;

²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as Jehovah commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

²⁸ And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

¹⁸ And Edom said to him, Thou shalt not pass through me, and if otherwise, I will go forth to meet thee in war.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel say to him, We will pass by the mountain; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, I will pay thee: but it is no matter of importance, we will go by the mountain.

²⁰ And he said, Thou shalt not pass through me; and Edom went forth to meet him with a great host, and a mighty hand.

²¹ So Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his borders, and Israel turned away from him.

²² And they departed from Cades; and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Or.

²³ And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in mount Or, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ Let Aaron be added to his people; for ye shall certainly not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because ye provoked me at the water of strife.

²⁵ Take Aaron, and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to the mount Or before all the congregation;

²⁶ and take Aaron's apparel from off him, and put it on Eleazar his son: and let Aaron die there and be added to his people.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and took him up to mount Or, before all the congregation.

²⁸ And he took Aaron's garments off him, and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron died on the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

²⁹ And all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead: and they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

²⁶ And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.

¹⁸ But the king of Edom refused. He replied, “Stay out of my country! If you try to enter it, I will send my army to attack you!”

¹⁹ The Israeli messengers replied, “ If we travel through your country, we will stay on the main road. If we and any of our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We want only to travel through your country. We do not want anything else.”

²⁰ But the king replied, “No! Stay out of our country! We will not allow you to travel through our land!” Then he sent the strongest soldiers in his army to prevent the Israelis from entering his country.

²¹ So, because the king of Edom refused to allow the Israelis to travel through his country, the Israelis turned and traveled a different way.

²² The Israeli people left Kadesh. They went to Hor Mountain,

²³ which is at the border of Edom. While they were there, Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,

²⁴ “It is time for Aaron to die EUP. He will not enter the land that I am giving to you Israelis, because the two of you disobeyed me when I told you to speak to the rock to cause the water to flow at Meribah.

²⁵ Now you, Moses, take Aaron and his son Eleazar up on Hor Mountain.

²⁶ There you must remove Aaron's robes that he wears when he does the work of a priest, and put them on his son, Eleazar. Aaron will die up there.”

²⁷ So Moses/I did what Yahweh commanded. The three of them/us climbed up Hor Mountain, while all the Israeli people watched.

²⁸ At the top of the mountain, Moses/I took off the robes that Aaron wore while he did the work of a priest and put them on Eleazar. Then Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Eleazar and Moses/I went back down.

²⁹ When the Israeli people realized that Aaron had died, they all mourned for him for thirty days.

¹⁸ And Edom said to him, You shall not pass through me, and if otherwise, I will go forth to meet you in war.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel say to him, We will pass by the mountain; and if I and my cattle drink of your water, I will pay you: but it is no matter of importance, we will go by the mountain.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said to him, We will go up by the highway: and if we or our cattle take of your water, we will give you a price for it: only let us go through on our feet, nothing more.

²⁰ But he said, You are not to go through. And Edom came out against them in his strength, with a great army.

²¹ So Edom would not let Israel go through his land; and Israel went in another direction.

²² And they went on from Kadesh, and came, with all their people, to Mount Hor.

²³ And at Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

²⁴ Aaron will be put to rest with his people; he will not go into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you went against my word at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ So take Aaron and Eleazar, his son, up into Mount Hor;

²⁶ And take Aaron's robes off him and put them on Eleazar, his son: and death will come to Aaron there, and he will be put to rest with his people.

²⁷ So Moses did as the Lord had said, and before the eyes of all the people they went up Mount Hor.

²⁸ And Moses took off Aaron's robes, and put them on Eleazar, his son; and there on the top of the mountain death came to Aaron: then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

²⁹ And when the people saw that Aaron was dead, all the children of Israel gave themselves up to weeping for him for thirty days.

¹⁸ But Edom said to him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said to him, We will go by the high way; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then I will pay for it: I will only, without anything else, go through on my feet.

²² And they removed from Kadesh; and the children of Israel, the whole assembly, came to mount Hor.

²³ And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land that I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my commandment at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor,

²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered to his peoples, and shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as Jehovah had commanded, and they went up mount Hor before the eyes of the whole assembly.

²⁸ And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there upon the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

²⁹ And the whole assembly saw that Aaron was dead, and they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even the whole house of Israel.

¹⁸ And Edom answered them: Thou shalt not pass by me: if thou dost I will come out armed against thee.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said: We will go by the beaten way: and if we and our cattle drink of thy waters, we will give thee what is just: there shall be no difficulty in the price, only let us pass speedily.

²⁰ But he answered: Thou shalt not pass. And immediately he came forth to meet them with an infinite multitude, and a strong hand,

²¹ Neither would he condescend to their desire to grant them passage through his borders. Wherefore Israel turned another way from him.

²² And when they had removed the camp from Cades, they came to mount Her, which is in the borders of the land of Edom:

²³ Where the Lord spoke to Moses:

²⁴ Let Aaron, saith he, go to his people: for he shall not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because he was incredulous to my words, at the waters of contradiction.

²⁵ Take Aaron and his son with him, and bring them up into mount Hor:

²⁶ And when thou hast stripped the father of his vesture, thou shalt vest therewith Eleazar his son: Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and die there.

²⁷ Moses did as the Lord had commanded: and they went up into mount Hor before all the multitude.

²⁸ And when he had stripped Aaron of his vestments, he vested Eleazar his son with them.

²⁹ And Aaron being dead in the top of the mountain, he came down with Eleazar.

¹⁸ But the king of Edom replied, “You are forbidden to travel through our country, otherwise we will come out and stop you by force.”

¹⁹ “We'll keep to the main road,” the Israelites persisted. “If we or our livestock drink your water, we'll pay you for it. That's all we want—just to pass through on foot.”

²⁰ But the king of Edom insisted, “You are forbidden to travel through our country!” He came out with his large and powerful army to meet the Israelites head-on.

²¹ Since the king of Edom refused to allow Israel to travel through his territory, the Israelites had to turn back.

²² The Israelites all left Kadesh and traveled to Mount Hor.

²³ At Mount Hor, near the border with the country of Edom, the Lord told Moses and Aaron,

²⁴ “Aaron will shortly join his forefathers in death. He will not enter the country I have given the Israelites, because you both disobeyed my command at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ Have Aaron and his son Eleazar join you and climb up Mount Hor together.

²⁶ Take off Aaron's priestly clothes and put them on his son Eleazar. Aaron is going to die there and join his forefathers in death.”

²⁷ Moses did as the Lord ordered: They climbed up Mount Hor in full view of all the Israelites.

²⁸ Moses removed the priestly clothes that Aaron was wearing and put them on Aaron's son Eleazar. Aaron died there, on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar went back down.

²⁹ When the people realized that Aaron had died, they all mourned for him for thirty days.

¹⁸ And Edom answered him, Thou shalt not passe by mee, least I come out against thee with the sword.

¹⁹ Then the children of Israel said vnto him, We will goe vp by the hie way: and if I and my cattell drinke of thy water, I will then pay for it: I will onely (without any harme) goe through on my feete.

²⁰ Hee answered againe, Thou shalt not goe through. The Edom came out against him with much people, and with a mightie power.

²¹ Thus Edom denyed to giue Israel passage through his countrey: wherefore Israel turned away from him.

²² And when the children of Israel with al the Congregation departed from Kadesh, they came vnto the mount Hor.

²³ And the Lord spake vnto Moses and to Aaron in the mount Hor neere the coast of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered vnto his people: for hee shall not enter into the lande, which I haue giuen vnto the children of Israel, because ye disobeyed my commandement at the water of Meribah.

²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his sonne, and bring them vp into the mount Hor,

²⁶ And cause Aaron to put off his garmentes and put them vpon Eleazar his sonne: for Aaron shall be gathered to his fathers, and shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord had commanded: and they went vp into the mount Hor, in the sight of all the Congregation.

²⁸ And Moses put off Aarons clothes, and put them vpon Eleazar his sonne: so Aaron dyed there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came downe from off the mount.

²⁹ When al the Congregation sawe that Aaron was dead, al the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirtie dayes.

¹⁸ And Edom said unto him: 'Thou shalt not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against thee.'

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said unto him: 'We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price thereof; let me only pass through on my feet; there is no hurt.'

²⁰ And he said: 'Thou shalt not pass through.' And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

²¹ Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; wherefore Israel turned away from him.

²⁸ And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.

²⁹ And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

¹⁸ And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through my land, lest I come against thee with the sword.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the highway: and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I pay its value; I will do thee no injury, only on foot will I pass through.

²⁰ And he said, Thou shalt not pass through; and Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

²¹ And as Edom thus refused to permit Israel to pass through his border, Israel turned away from him.

²² And they set forward from Kadesh; and the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came unto mount Hor.

²³ And the Lord said unto Moses and Aaron at mount Hor, by the boundary of the land of Edom, as followeth,

²⁴ Aaron shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my order at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ Take Aaron and Elazar, his son, and cause them to go up unto mount Hor:

²⁶ And cause Aaron to take off his garments, and clothe therewith Elazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered in, and he shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord had commanded; and they went up to mount Hor before the eyes of all the congregation.

²⁸ And Moses caused Aaron to take off his garments, and he clothed therewith Elazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mount; and Moses and Elazar then came down from the mount.

¹⁹ And the children of Israel say to him, We will pass by the mountain; and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, I will pay thee: but it is no matter of importance, we will go by the mountain.

²⁰ And he said, Thou shalt not pass through me; and Edom went forth to meet him with a great host, and a mighty hand.

²¹ So Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his borders, and Israel turned away from him.

²² And they departed from Kadesh; and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

²³ And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, on the borders of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ Let Aaron be added to his people; for ye shall certainly not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because ye provoked me at the water of strife.

²⁵ Take Aaron, and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to the Mount Hor before all the congregation;

²⁶ and take Aaron’s apparel from off him, and put it on Eleazar his son: and let Aaron die there and be added to his people.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and took him up to Mount Hor, before all the congregation.

²⁸ And he took Aaron’s garments off him, and put them on Eleazar his son, and Aaron died on the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

²⁹ And all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead: and they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

²⁰ But he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edomea came out to meet him with great force and with a strong hand.

²² And they went forward from Rekem, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to Mount Hor.

²³ And the Lord spake to Mosheh and to Aharon at Mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying:

²⁴ Aharon shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against My Word at the waters of strife.

²⁶ And strip Aharon of his vestments, and put them upon Elazar his son; and Aharon shall be gathered (to his people), and shall die there.

²² They traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel God prevails, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

²³ Adonai spoke to Moses Drawn out and Aaron Light-bringer in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom Red, saying,

²⁴ “Aaron Light-bringer shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel God prevails, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah Quarreling.

²⁵ Take Aaron Light-bringer and Eleazar Help of God his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;

²⁶ and strip Aaron Light-bringer of his garments, and put them on Eleazar Help of God his son. Aaron Light-bringer shall be taken, and shall die there.”

²⁷ Moses Drawn out did as Adonai enjoined. They went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

¹⁸ But the king of Edom replied to him, “You may not pass through here. If you do, I will come with the sword to attack you.”

¹⁹ Then the people of Israel said to him, “We will go along the highway. If we or our livestock drink your water, we will pay for it. Just let us walk through on foot, without doing anything else.”

²⁰ But the king of Edom replied, “You may not pass through.” So the king of Edom came against Israel with a strong hand with many soldiers.

²¹ The king of Edom refused to allow Israel to cross over their border. Because of this, Israel turned away from the land of Edom.

²² So the people journeyed from Kadesh. The people of Israel, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.

²³ Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on Edom's border. He said,

²⁴ “Aaron must be gathered to his people, for he will not enter the land that I have given to the people of Israel. This is because you both rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor.

²⁶ Take Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron must die and be gathered to his people there.”

²¹ neither he would assent to Israel beseeching, that he should grant passage by his coasts.

²² Wherefore Israel turned away from him. And when Israel had moved their tents from Kadesh, they came into the hill of Hor,

²³ which is in the ends of the land of Edom; where the Lord spake to Moses, and said,

²⁴ Aaron go to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I gave to the sons of Israel, for he was unbelieveful to my word, at the waters of Against-saying.

²⁵ Take thou Aaron, and his son with him, and thou shalt lead them into the hill of Hor;

²⁶ and when thou hast made naked the father of his cloth, thou shalt clothe therewith Eleazar, his son, and Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord commanded; and they ascended or went up into the hill of Hor, before all the multitude.

²⁸ And when Moses had made naked Aaron of his clothes, he clothed with those or them Eleazar, his son. Soothly when Aaron was dead in the top of the hill, Moses came down with Eleazar.

²⁹ Soothly all the multitude saw that Aaron was dead, and it wept upon him thirty days, by all their meines.

¹⁸ To whom Edom answered, Ye shall not pass by me, else I shall be armed, and come against thee. (To whom the Edomites answered, Ye shall not pass through our land, and if ye try, we shall be armed, and shall come out against thee.)

¹⁹ And the sons of Israel said, We shall go by the way commonly used, and if we and our beasts drink thy waters, we shall give that that is just; no hardness shall be in the price, only pass we in haste, (or we will have no difficulty to pay you for it; but just let us quickly pass through thy land).

²⁰ And he answered, Ye shall not pass by me. And anon he went out against Israel, with a multitude without number, and with a strong hand/and with strong power, (And they answered, Ye shall not pass through our land. And at once the Edomites went out against Israel, in a multitude without number, and with mighty power,)

²¹ neither he would assent to Israel beseeching, that he should grant passage by his coasts. (for they would not agree to Israel’s beseeching, to grant them passage through their land.)

²² Wherefore Israel turned away from him. And when Israel had moved their tents from Kadesh, they came into the hill of Hor, (And so Israel turned, and went by another way. And when they had moved on from Kadesh, they came to Mount Hor,)

²³ which is in the ends of the land of Edom (or which is near Edom’s border); where the Lord spake to Moses, and said,

²⁴ Aaron (shall) go to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I gave to the sons of Israel, for he was unbelieveful to my word, at the waters of against-saying. (Aaron shall now go to his people, that is, he shall die; for he shall not enter into the land which I gave to the Israelites, for he did not believe my word at the waters of Meribah.)

²⁵ Take thou Aaron, and his son with him, and thou shalt lead them into the hill of Hor; (Take thou Aaron, and his son with him, and lead thou them up onto Mount Hor;)

²⁶ and when thou hast made naked the father of his cloth (or and when thou hast made stripped the father of his priestly cloak, or robe), thou shalt clothe therewith Eleazar, his son, and Aaron shall be gathered (to his people), and shall die there.

²⁷ And Moses did as the Lord commanded; and they ascended into the hill of Hor, before all the multitude, (or and they went up onto Mount Hor, in the sight of all the multitude).

²⁸ And when Moses had made naked Aaron of his clothes, he clothed with those Eleazar, his son. Soothly when Aaron was dead in the top of the hill, Moses came down with Eleazar. (And when Moses had stripped Aaron of his priestly clothes, he clothed Aaron’s son Eleazar with them. And then, after that Aaron had died there on the mountaintop, Moses came down with Eleazar.)

²⁹ Soothly all the multitude saw that Aaron was dead, and it wept upon him thirty days, by all their families. (And all the multitude saw that Aaron had died, and all the families wept over him for thirty days.)

¹⁸ To whom Edom answeride, Ye schulen not passe bi me, ellis Y schal be armed, and come ayens thee.

¹⁹ And the sones of Israel seiden, We schulen go bi the weie comynli vsid, and if we and oure beestis drynken thi watris, we schulen yyue that that is iust; noon hardnesse schal be in prijs, onely passe we swiftli.

²⁰ And he answeride, Ye schulen not passe. And anoon he yede out ayens Israel, with a multitude without noumbre, and `strong hond,

²¹ nether he wolde assente to Israel bisechynge, that he schulde graunte passage bi hise coostis. Wherfor Israel turnede awey fro hym.

²² And whanne thei hadden moued tentis fro Cades, thei camen in to the hil of Hor, which is in the endis of the lond of Edom;

²³ where the Lord spak to Moyses and seide, Aaron go to his puples;

²⁴ for he schal not entre in to the lond which Y yaf to the sones of Israel, for he was vnbileueful to my mouth, at the watris of ayenseiyng.

²⁵ Take thou Aaron, and his sone with hym, and thou schalt lede hem in to the hil of Hor;

²⁶ and whanne thou hast maad nakid the fadir of his cloth, thou schalt clothe `with it Eleazar, his sone, and Aaron schal be gederid, and schal die there.

²⁷ Moises dide as the Lord comaundide; and thei stieden in to the hil of Hor, bifor al the multitude.

²⁸ And whanne he hadde maad nakid Aaron of hise clothis, he clothide with tho Eleazar, his sone.

²⁹ Sotheli whanne Aaron was deed in the `cop of the hil, Moises cam doun with Eleazar. Sotheli al the multitude siy that Aaron was deed, and wepte on hym thretti daies, bi alle her meyness.

¹⁸ And Edom saith unto him, 'Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.'

¹⁹ And the sons of Israel say unto him, 'In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink — I and my cattle — then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.'

²⁰ And he saith, 'Thou dost not pass over;' and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;

²¹ and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.

²² And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,

²³ and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,

²⁴ 'Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.

²⁵ 'Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,

²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.'

²⁷ And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,

²⁸ and Moses strippeth Aaron of his garments, and clotheth with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron dieth there on the top of the mount; and Moses cometh down — Eleazar also — from the mount,

²⁹ and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days — all the house of Israel.
