Matthew 13:24-58 in American Standard Version (1901)

24 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field:
25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares also among the wheat, and went away.
26 But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?
28 And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.
31 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
32 which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof.
33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.
34 All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them:
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.
36 Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one;
39 and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity,
42 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears, let him hear.
44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:
46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away.
49 So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous,
50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
51 Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea.
52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
53 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
54 And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Translation for Translators

24 Jesus also told the crowd another parable, by which he tried to explain that although God MTY/EUP is a king, he will not immediately judge and punish all the wicked people. Jesus said, “ God is like a landowner who sent his servants to sow good wheat seed in his field.
25 While those servants were sleeping and not watching the field, an enemy of the landowner came and scattered weed seeds in the midst of the wheat. Then he left.
26 After the seeds sprouted and the green plants grew, the heads of grain began to form. But the weeds also grew.
27 So the servants of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, you RHQ gave us good seeds and those are the ones we RHQ planted in your field. So where did the weeds come from?’
28 The landowner said to them, ‘ My enemy did this.’ His servants said to him, ‘So, do you want us to pull up the weeds and put them in a pile?’
29 He said to them, ‘No, do not do that, because you might pull up some of the wheat at the same time.
30 Let the wheat and the weeds grow together until harvest time.’ At that time I will say to the reapers, ‘First gather the weeds, tie them into bundles to be burned. Then gather the wheat and put it into my barns.’”
31 Jesus also told this parable: “The number of (OR, God's influence in the lives of) people whose lives God rules over will continue to grow. It is very much like mustard seeds grow after a man plants them in his field.
32 Although mustard seeds are among the smallest of all the seeds that people plant, here in Israel they become large plants. When the plants have fully grown, they are larger than the other garden plants. They become shrubs that are large enough for birds to build nests in their branches.”
33 Jesus also told this parable: “ The way people who let God MTY/EUP rule their lives MET can influence the world is like yeast that a woman mixed with about fifty pounds of flour. That small amount of yeast made the whole batch of dough swell up.”
34 Jesus told the crowd parables to teach them all these things. When he spoke HYP to them, he habitually used such illustrations.
35 By doing that, he fulfilled what God told one of the prophets to write long ago: I will speak MTY in parables; I will tell parables to teach what I have kept secret since I created the world.
36 After Jesus dismissed the crowds, he went inside. Then we disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable about the weeds that grew in the wheat field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed represents me, the one who came from heaven.
38 The field represents this world MTY, where people live. The seeds that grew well represent the people who let God rule their lives MET. The weeds represent the people who do what the devil, the Evil One, tells them to do.
39 The enemy who sowed the weed seeds represents the devil. The time when the reapers will harvest the grain represents the time when the world will end. The reapers represent the angels.
40 The weeds are gathered and burned. {The reapers gather the weeds. Then they burn them.} That represents the judging of people, which God will do when the world will end. It will be like this:
41 I, the one who came from heaven, will send my angels, and they will gather from everywhere the people who cause others to quit believing in me MET and all those who disobey God's commands.
42 They will throw those people into the fires of hell. There those people will weep and grind their teeth because of the great pain that they are suffering.
43 God's brightness will shine on the people who have lived as he wants them to. It will shine on them as brightly as the sun shines. It will shine on them in the place where God, their Father, rules over them. If you want to understand this MTY, you should think carefully about what I have just said.”
44 “ What people do who begin to allow God MTY/EUP to rule their lives is like what a certain man did to acquire a treasure. A treasure was hidden in a field by someone {Someone hid a treasure in a field and never dug it up again}. When another man found it, he hid it by burying it again in order that no one else would find it. Being very happy that he had found something very valuable, he went and sold all his possessions to obtain money to buy the field the treasure was in. He then went and bought the field, and so he was able to acquire that treasure.
45 Also, what people do who begin to allow God MTY/EUP to rule their lives is like what a merchant did who was looking for good quality pearls to buy.
46 When he found one very costly pearl that was for sale, he sold all his possessions to acquire enough money to buy that pearl. Then he went and bought it.
47 What God MTY/EUP will do to people who falsely say that they are letting him rule their lives is like what certain fishermen did with the fish they caught in a lake, using a large net. They caught all classes of fish, both useful and worthless fish.
48 When the net was full, the fishermen pulled it up onto the shore. Then they sat there and put the useful fish into buckets, and threw the worthless ones away.
49 What they did in separating the good fish from the bad ones is like what will happen to people when the world ends. The angels will come to where God is judging people, and will separate the wicked people from the righteous ones.
50 They will throw the wicked people into the fire in hell. And those wicked people will weep and gnash their teeth because of the intense pain they are suffering.”
51 Then Jesus asked us, “Do you understand all these parables I have told you?” We said to him,
52 “Yes, we understand them.” Then he said to us, “Because you understand all these parables, you will understand the following parable: You, along with all others, will teach people what you heard me say about God ruling people's lives. You will add that to what you formerly learned. You will be like a manager of a household who takes both new things and old things out of his storage room.”
53 When Jesus had finished telling these parables, he took us and left that area.
54 We went to Nazareth, his hometown. ◄On the Sabbath/On the Jewish rest day► he began to teach the people in the Jewish worship house. The result was that the people there were astonished. But some said, “ This man is just an ordinary person like us. So how is it that he knows so much and understands so much RHQ? And how is it that he is able to do such miracles RHQ?
55 ◄He is just the son of the carpenter!/Isn't he just the son of the carpenter that lived here?► RHQ His mother is Mary, and his younger brothers are James, Joseph, Simon and Judas RHQ!
56 ◄And his sisters also live here in our town./Do not his sisters live in our town?► RHQ So how is he able to do all these miracles?”
57 The people were unable to accept that he was the Messiah. So Jesus said to them, “ People honor me and other prophets everywhere else we go, but in our hometowns we are not honored, and even our own families do not honor us!”
58 Jesus did not perform many miracles there because the people did not believe that he was the Messiah.

24 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
25 but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also among the wheat, and went away.
26 But when the blade sprang up and produced grain, then the darnel weeds appeared also.
27 The servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where did these darnel weeds come from?’
28 “He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and gather them up?’
29 “But he said, ‘No, lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel weeds, you root up the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, “First, gather up the darnel weeds, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
31 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took, and sowed in his field,
32 which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.”
33 He spoke another parable to them. “The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”
34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
36 Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel weeds of the field.”
37 He answered them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,
38 the field is the world, the good seeds are the children of the Kingdom, and the darnel weeds are the children of the evil one.
39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 As therefore the darnel weeds are gathered up and burned with fire; so will it be at the end of this age.
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his Kingdom all things that cause stumbling and those who do iniquity,
42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
44 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls,
46 who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some fish of every kind,
48 which, when it was filled, fishermen drew up on the beach. They sat down and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.
49 So it will be in the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked from among the righteous,
50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.
54 Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
55 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?
56 Aren’t all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?”
57 They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and in his own house.”
58 He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

24 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
25 but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also amongst the wheat, and went away.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Bible in Basic English

24 And he gave them another story, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who put good seed in his field:
25 But while men were sleeping, one who had hate for him came and put evil seeds among the grain, and went away.
26 But when the green stem came up and gave fruit, the evil plants were seen at the same time.
27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Sir, did you not put good seed in your field? how then has it evil plants?
28 And he said, Someone has done this in hate. And the servants say to him, Is it your pleasure that we go and take them up?
29 But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them.
30 Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house.
31 He put another story before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his field:
32 Which is smaller than all seeds; but when it has come up it is greater than the plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and make their resting-places in its branches.
33 Another story he gave to them: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and put in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.
34 All these things Jesus said to the people in the form of stories; and without a story he said nothing to them:
35 That it might come true which was said by the prophet, Opening my mouth, I will give out stories; I will give knowledge of things kept secret from before all time.
36 Then he went away from the people, and went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Make clear to us the story of the evil plants in the field.
37 And he made answer and said, He who puts the good seed in the earth is the Son of man;
38 And the field is the world; and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom; and the evil seeds are the sons of the Evil One;
39 And he who put them in the earth is Satan; and the getting in of the grain is the end of the world; and those who get it in are the angels.
40 As then the evil plants are got together and burned with fire, so will it be in the end of the world.
41 The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will take out of his kingdom everything which is a cause of error, and all those who do wrong,
42 And will put them into the fire; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.
43 Then will the upright be shining as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him give ear.
44 The kingdom of heaven is like a secret store of wealth in a field, which a man came across and put back again; and in his joy he goes and gives all he has, to get that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a trader searching for beautiful jewels.
46 And having come across one jewel of great price, he went and gave all he had in exchange for it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, which was put into the sea and took in every sort of fish:
48 When it was full, they took it up on the sands; and seated there they put the good into vessels, but the bad they put away.
49 So will it be in the end of the world: the angels will come and take out the bad from the good,
50 And will put them into the fire: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.
51 Are all these things now clear to you? They say to him, Yes.
52 And he said to them, For this reason every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house, who gives out from his store things new and old.
53 And when Jesus had come to the end of these stories he went away from there.
54 And coming into his country, he gave them teaching in their Synagogue, so that they were greatly surprised and said, Where did this man get this wisdom and these works of power?
55 Is not this the woodworker's son? is not his mother named Mary? and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? from where, then, has he all these things?
57 And they were bitter against him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is nowhere without honour but in his country and among his family.
58 And the works of power which he did there were small in number because they had no faith.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Darby Translation

24 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man sowing good seed in his field;
25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amongst the wheat, and went away.
26 But when the blade shot up and produced fruit, then appeared the darnel also.
27 And the bondmen of the householder came up and said to him, Sir, hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whence then has it darnel?
28 And he said to them, A man that is an enemy has done this. And the bondmen said to him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather it up?
29 But he said, No; lest in gathering the darnel ye should root up the wheat with it.
30 Suffer both to grow together unto the harvest, and in time of the harvest I will say to the harvestmen, Gather first the darnel, and bind it into bundles to burn it; but the wheat bring together into my granary.
31 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field;
32 which is less indeed than all seeds, but when it is grown is greater than herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and roost in its branches.
33 He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened.
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without a parable he did not speak to them,
35 so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the world's foundation.
36 Then, having dismissed the crowds, he went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Expound to us the parable of the darnel of the field.
37 But he answering said, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man,
38 and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil one;
39 and the enemy who has sowed it is the devil; and the harvest is the completion of the age, and the harvestmen are angels.
40 As then the darnel is gathered and is burned in the fire, thus it shall be in the completion of the age.
41 The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all offences, and those that practise lawlessness;
42 and they shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that has ears, let him hear.
44 The kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls;
46 and having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine which has been cast into the sea, and which has gathered together of every kind,
48 which, when it has been filled, having drawn up on the shore and sat down, they gathered the good into vessels and cast the worthless out.
49 Thus shall it be in the completion of the age: the angels shall go forth and sever the wicked from the midst of the just,
50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
51 Jesus says to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea, Lord.
52 And he said to them, For this reason every scribe discipled to the kingdom of the heavens is like a man that is a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.
53 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these parables he withdrew thence.
54 And having come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, Whence has this man this wisdom and these works of power?
55 Is not this the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then has this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, unless in his country and in his house.
58 And he did not there many works of power, because of their unbelief.

24 Another parable he proposed to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seeds in his field.
25 But while men were asleep, his enemy came and oversowed cockle among the wheat and went his way.
26 And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle.
27 And the servants of the goodman of the house coming said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it cockle?
28 And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up?
29 And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it.
30 Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.
31 Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.
32 Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof.
33 Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.
34 All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them.
35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.
36 Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field.
37 Who made answer and said to them: He that soweth the good seed, is the Son of man.
38 And the field, is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle, are the children of the wicked one.
39 And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels.
40 Even as cockle therefore is gathered up, and burnt with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world.
41 The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity.
42 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.
46 Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes.
48 Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.
50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.
52 He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.
53 And it came to pass: when Jesus had finished these parables, he passed from thence.
54 And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered and said: How came this man by this wisdom and miracles?
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude:
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence therefore hath he all these things?
57 And they were scandalized in his regard. But Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And he wrought not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.

24 Another parable He set before them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field.
25 But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.
26 But when the stalk had sprouted and produced fruit, then the tares also appeared.
27 So the servants of the master of the house approached and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where then does it have tares?’
28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Do you wish then that we should go and gather them up?’
29 But he said, ‘No, lest gathering up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.
30 Leave both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares, and bind them into bundles to burn them, but gather together the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”
31 Another parable He set before them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field,
32 which indeed is smaller than all the seeds; but whenever it is grown, it is greater than the garden vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
33 Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”
34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He did not speak to them,

50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a house who brings out of his treasure both new things and old.”
53 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, He went away from there.
54 And coming into His hometown, He began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and the powerful works?

24 He put another parable to them, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;
25 but while the people were sleeping his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.
26 But when the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the tares also appeared.
27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field? How then does it have tares?’
28 He said to them, ‘An enemy did it.’ The servants said to him, ‘So do you want us to go and gather them up?’
29 But he said: ‘No, lest gathering up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the tares and bind them into bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”
31 He put another parable to them, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field;
32 which indeed is smaller than all the seeds, but when it is grown it is greater than all the vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and rest in its branches.”
33 He spoke another parable to them: “The kingdom of the heavens is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it was all leavened.”
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without a parable He did not speak to them,
35 so that what was spoken through the prophet should be fulfilled, namely: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.”
36 Then Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples approached Him saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
37 So He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of the Man.
38 The field is the world; as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, while the tares are the sons of the malignant one.
39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 Therefore just as the tares are gathered and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of this age.
41 The Son of the Man will send out His angels, and they will collect out of His kingdom everything that is offensive, and those who perpetrate lawlessness;
42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire. There there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
44 “Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and re-hid, and in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a merchant, seeking beautiful pearls,
46 who upon finding one very valuable pearl went and sold everything he had and bought it.
47 “Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind,
48 which, when it was full, they pulled upon the shore; and sitting down they collected the good into vessels, but threw out the bad.
49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth and will separate the malignant out from among the righteous,
50 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire. There there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
51 Jesus says to them, “Did you understand all these things?” They say to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 So He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been discipled into the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a householder, who brings out of his reservoir things new and old.”
53 Now it happened, when Jesus had finished these parables, that He departed from there.
54 And coming into His hometown He began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said: “Where did this man get this wisdom, and the mighty works?
55 Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James and Joses and Simon and Jude?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
57 So they were offended at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own house.”
58 And He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Free Bible Version

24 Then he told them another illustrated story: “The kingdom of heaven is like a farmer who sowed good seeds in his field.
25 But while his workers were sleeping, an enemy came and sowed weed seeds on top of the wheat. Then they left.
26 So when the wheat grew and produced ears of grain, the weeds also grew up.
27 The farmer's workers came and asked him, ‘Sir, didn't you sow good seeds in your field? Where did the weeds come from?’
28 ‘Some enemy has done this,’ he replied. ‘Do you want us to go and pull up the weeds?’ they asked him.
29 ‘No,’ he answered, ‘as you pull up the weeds, you might uproot the wheat too.
30 Let them both grow until harvest, and then at harvest-time I'll tell the reapers to first gather the weeds, tie them up into bundles and burn them, and then gather the wheat and store it in my barn.’”
31 He gave them another illustration: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a farmer sowed in his field.
32 Even though it's the tiniest of seeds it grows much bigger than other plants. In fact it grows into a tree big enough for birds to roost in its branches.”
33 He told them another illustrated story: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman mixed with a large quantity of flour, until all the dough was raised.”
34 Jesus explained all these things to the crowds using illustrated stories—in fact he didn't speak to them without using stories.
35 This fulfilled the prophet's words: “I will speak using stories, and I will explain things hidden from the creation of the world.”
36 Then he left the crowds and went into a house. His disciples came over to him, and asked him, “Please explain to us the story about the weeds in the field.”
37 “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of man,” Jesus explained.
38 “The field is the world. The good seeds are the children of the kingdom. The weed seeds are the children of the evil one.
39 The enemy that sowed the weed seeds is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world. The reapers are angels.
40 Just as the weeds are harvested and burned so it will be at the end of the world.
41 The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will gather up every sinful thing and everyone who does evil,
42 and will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
43 Then those who live right will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father. Anybody with ears should be listening!
44 The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, reburied it, and then full of joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 The kingdom of heaven is also like a trader looking for good pearls.
46 When he found the most expensive pearl ever he went and sold all he had and bought it.
47 Once more, the kingdom of heaven is like a fishing net thrown into the sea that caught all kinds of fish.
48 When it was full it was dragged ashore. The good fish were put into baskets while the bad ones were thrown away.
49 That's the way it will be when the end of the world comes. The angels will go out and separate the evil people from the good,
50 and throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
51 Now do you understood everything?” “Yes,” they replied.
52 “Every religious teacher who's learned about the kingdom of heaven is like a house-owner who brings out from his storeroom both new and old treasures,” Jesus said.
53 After Jesus finished telling these stories, he left.
54 He went back to his home town and taught in the synagogue there. People were amazed, and asked, “Where does he get his wisdom and miracles from?
55 Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and his brothers James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
56 Don't his sisters live here among us? So where does he get all this from?”
57 And so they refused to believe in him. “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his homeland and in his family,” Jesus told them.
58 Since they failed to trust in him, he did not do many miracles there.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Geneva Bible 1599

24 Another parable put hee foorth vnto them, saying, The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a man which sowed good seede in his fielde.
25 But while men slept, there came his enemie, and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his waie.
26 And when the blade was sprong vp, and brought forth fruite, then appeared the tares also.
27 Then came the seruaunts of the housholder, and sayd vnto him, Master, sowedst not thou good seede in thy fielde? from whence then hath it tares?
28 And hee said to them, Some enuious man hath done this. Then the seruants saide vnto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them vp?
29 But he saide, Nay, lest while yee goe about to gather the tares, yee plucke vp also with them the wheat.
30 Let both growe together vntill the haruest, and in time of haruest I will say to the reapers, Gather yee first the tares, and binde them in sheaues to burne them: but gather the wheate into my barne.
31 Another parable he put foorth vnto them, saying, The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a graine of mustard seede, which a man taketh and soweth in his fielde:
32 Which in deede is the least of all seedes: but when it is growen, it is the greatest among herbes, and it is a tree, so that the birdes of heauen come and builde in the branches thereof.
33 Another parable spake hee to them, The kingdome of heauen is like vnto leauen, which a woman taketh and hideth in three pecks of meale, till all be leauened.
34 All these thinges spake Iesus vnto the multitude in parables, and without parables spake he not to them,
35 That it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables, and will vtter the thinges which haue beene kept secrete from the foundation of the worlde.
36 Then sent Iesus the multitude away, and went into the house. And his disciples came vnto him, saying, Declare vnto vs the parable of the tares of that fielde.
37 Then answered he, and saide to them, He that soweth the good seede, is the Sonne of man.
38 And the field is the worlde, and the good seede are the children of the kingdome, and the tares are the children of that wicked one.
39 And the enemie that soweth them, is the deuill, and the haruest is the end of the worlde, and the reapers be the Angels.
40 As then the tares are gathered and burned in ye fire, so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Sonne of man shall send forth his Angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which doe iniquitie,
42 And shall cast them into a fornace of fire. There shalbe wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the iust men shine as ye sunne in the kingdome of their Father. Hee that hath eares to heare, let him heare.
44 Againe, the kingdom of heauen is like vnto a treasure hid in ye field, which when a man hath found, he hideth it, and for ioy thereof departeth and selleth all that he hath, and buieth that field.
45 Againe, the kingdome of heauen is like to a marchant man, that seeketh good pearles,
46 Who hauing found a pearle of great price, went and solde all that he had, and bought it.
47 Againe, the kingdom of heauen is like vnto a drawe net cast into the sea, that gathereth of all kindes of things.
48 Which, when it is full, men draw to lande, and sit and gather the good into vessels, and cast the bad away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world. The Angels shall goe foorth, and seuer the bad from among the iust,
50 And shall cast them into a fornace of fire: there shalbe wailing, and gnashing of teeth.
51 Iesus saide vnto them, Vnderstand yee all these things? They saide vnto him, Yea, Lord.
52 Then sayd hee vnto them, Therefore euery Scribe which is taught vnto the kingdome of heauen, is like vnto an householder, which bringeth foorth out of his treasure things both newe and olde.
53 And it came to passe, that when Iesus had ended these parables, he departed thence,
54 And came into his owne countrey, and taught them in their Synagogue, so that they were astonied, and saide, Whence commeth this wisdome and great woorkes vnto this man?
55 Is not this the carpenters sonne? Is not his mother called Marie, and his brethren Iames and Ioses, and Simon and Iudas?
56 And are not his sisters all with vs? Whence then hath he all these things?
57 And they were offended with him. Then Iesus said to them, A Prophet is not without honour, saue in his owne countrey, and in his owne house.
58 And he did not many great woorkes there, for their vnbeliefes sake.

24 Another parable which Jesus told them was this — “The kingdom of heaven is compared to a person who sowed good seed in their field.
25 But, while everyone was asleep, their enemy came and sowed weeds amongst the wheat, and then went away.
26 So, when the blades of corn shot up, and came into ear, the weeds made their appearance also.
27 The owner's servants came to them, and said ‘Was not it good seed that you sowed in your field? Where, then, do the weeds in it come from?’
28 ‘An enemy has done this,’ was the owner's answer. ‘Do you wish us, then,’ they asked, ‘to go and gather them together?’
29 ‘No,’ said he, ‘because while you are pulling up the weeds you might uproot the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow side by side until harvest; and then I will say to the reapers, Gather the weeds together first, and tie them in bundles for burning; but bring all the wheat into my barn.’”
31 Another parable which he told them was this — “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a person took and sowed in his field.
32 This seed is smaller than all other seeds, but, when it has grown up, it is larger than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that ‘the wild birds come and roost in its branches.’”
33 This was another parable which Jesus related — “The kingdom of heaven is like some yeast which a woman took and covered up in three pecks of flour, until the whole had risen.”

35 in fulfilment of these words in the prophet — ‘I will speak to them in parables; I will utter things kept secret since the foundation of the world.’
36 Then Jesus left the crowd, and went into the house. Presently his disciples came to him, and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he withdrew from that place.
54 Going to his own part of the country, he taught the people in their synagogue in such a manner that they were deeply impressed. “Where did he get this wisdom?” they said, “and the miracles?

Matthew [Gift of Yah] 13:24-58 in One Unity Resource Bible

24 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
25 but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also among the wheat, and went away.
26 But when the blade sprang up and produced fruit, then the darnel weeds appeared also.
31 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field;
32 which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.”
33 He spoke another parable to them. “The Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.”
34 Yeshua Salvation spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
36 Then Yeshua Salvation sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel weeds of the field.”
37 He answered them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,
38 the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the children of the Kingdom; and the darnel weeds are the children of the evil one.
39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 As therefore the darnel weeds are gathered up and burned with fire; so will it be at the end of this age.
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his Kingdom all things that cause people to sin and all the people who are far from Torah ·Teaching·, and those who do iniquity,
42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
43 Then the upright will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·. He who has ears to hear, let him sh'ma ·hear obey·.
44 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls,
46 who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind,
48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.
49 So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked from among the upright,
50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.”
51 Yeshua Salvation said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven (God) is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”
53 When Yeshua Salvation had finished these parables, he departed from there.
54 Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary Rebellion, and his brothers, James Surplanter, Joses, Simeon Hearing, and Judas Praised?
56 Are not all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?”
57 They were offended by him. But Yeshua Salvation said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house.”
58 He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Matthew [Gift of Yah] 13 in One Unity Resource Bible

Matthew 13:24-58 in Plain English Version

24 Then Jesus told the people another picture story. He said, “This story shows you something about God’s family. A farmer planted some good food seeds in his garden.
25 But there was a bad man that didn’t like the farmer. One night, when everyone was asleep, that bad man went to the farmer’s garden and planted some rubbish plant seeds in it, beside the good seeds. Then that bad man went away.
26 The good seeds grew into good plants and started to make seed food. But at the same time, the seeds of the rubbish plants, that we call weeds, they grew big there too.
27 So the farmer’s workers came to him and said, ‘Boss, you planted good food seeds in that ground. How come a lot of weeds are growing there too?’
28 The farmer said, ‘I reckon a bad man planted those weeds, somebody that doesn’t like me.’ The workers said, ‘Do you want us to go and pull up those weeds?’
29 The farmer said, ‘No, don’t do that. Those plants are all mixed together, so if you pull up the weeds you will pull up some of the good food plants with them.
30 No. Just let them all grow up, the good plants and the rubbish plants together. Later, when the right time comes, I will get some men to get the good seed food. But I will talk to hem before they do that job. I will tell them to cut down the weeds first, and tie them in bundles, and burn them. After that they will get all the good seed food and bring it in to my shed.’”
36 Then Jesus went into a house, away from all the people. And his followers came to him and said, “Please tell us what that story means, that picture story about the weeds.”
37 Jesus said to them, “I’m God’s special man from heaven, and I’m like the farmer in that story. I’m like the one that planted good food seeds in a garden.
38 That garden is like the world. The good food seeds are like the people that belong to God. The weeds are like the people that belong to the devil.
39 The bad man that planted those weed seeds in the garden is like the devil. The time to get all the good seed food is like the time for the end of the world. The workers that cut down the plants are like God’s angel messengers.
40 And in the story the workers cut down the weeds and burnt them in the fire. That is a picture of what will happen at end of the world.
41 You see, I’m God’s special man from heaven, and at the end of the world I will send out God’s angel messengers. They will get the people that belong to the devil. They will get all the people that don’t belong in God’s family. Those are the people that break God’s law, and they make other people do bad things.
42 The angels will chuck all those bad people into a big fire. Those people will cry, and they will be so angry that they will bite their teeth together.
43 But at that time God will show everyone that the good people are really great. It will be like they are shiny, like the sun. And they will be in the family of God, their Father.” Then Jesus said, “You’ve got ears, so you have to listen to me properly, and take notice of my words.”
44 Jesus told his followers 2 more picture stories. He said, “This story shows you more about God’s family. A man buried a lot of gold in the ground, to hide it. Some time later another man found that gold, but he didn’t own the land, so he couldn’t get it for himself. So he buried it again. Then he went away, and he sold everything that he owned, to get some money. Then he bought that land. After that he got all that gold for himself, and he was really happy. Well, if you find out how to get into God’s family, it is like you find a lot of gold.”
45 Jesus talked some more, he said, “This is another picture story that shows you about God’s family. There was a man that used to buy things, and then take them to another place and sell them again at a higher price. That was his job. One day he was looking for beautiful pearls to buy,
46 and he found a really good and beautiful pearl, but it was its price was very high. So that man sold everything that he owned, to get enough money. Then he bought that very good pearl.”
47 Then Jesus said, “This is another picture story that shows you about God’s family. Some fishermen threw their fishing net into the water and caught a lot of fish in it. There were all kinds of fish in that net.
48 Then they dragged it up on to the land, and sat down, and sorted out the fish. They put the good fish into baskets to keep them, and they chucked the bad fish away.
49 That’s what it will be like when God will finish up this world. His angel workers will come and sort everybody out. They will save good people, and they will chuck the bad people into a big fire. Those people will cry a lot, and they will be so angry that they will bite their teeth together.”
51 Then Jesus asked his followers, “Do you understand all these things?” They said, “Yes, we do.”
52 Then Jesus said, “Every teacher of God’s word that joins God’s family will teach new messages from God as well as old messages. He is like a man that owns a big house. That man has a storeroom in that house, where he keeps his very special things. Sometimes he brings those things out to show to his friends. He shows them new things, as well as old things.”

Matthew 13:24-58 in Tyndale New Testament

24 Another similitude put he forth vnto the sayinge: The kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto a man which sowed good seed in his felde.
25 But whyll men slepte ther came his foo and sowed tares amonge the wheate and wet his waye.
26 When the blade was spronge vp and had brought forth frute the appered the tares also.
27 The servaunts came to the housholder and sayde vnto him: Syr sowedest not thou good seed in thy closse from whence the hath it tares?
28 He sayde to the the envious man hath done this. Then the servauntes sayde vnto him: wilt thou then that we go and gader them?
29 But he sayde nay lest whill ye go aboute to wede out the tares ye plucke vppe also with them the wheate by the rottes:
30 let bothe growe to gether tyll harvest come and in tyme of harvest I wyll saye to the repers gather ye fyrst the tares and bind the in sheves to be bret: but gather the wheete into my barne.
31 Another parable he put forthe vnto the sayinge. The kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto a grayne of mustard seed which a man taketh and soweth in his felde
32 which is the leest of all seedes. But when it is groune it is the greatest amonge yerbes and it is a tree: so that the bryddes of the ayer come and bylde in the brauches of it.
33 Another similitude sayde he to them. The kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto leve which a woman taketh and hydeth in .iii. peckes of meele tyll all be levended.
34 All these thynge spake Iesus vnto the people by similitudes and with oute similitudes spake he nothinge to them
35 to fulfyll that which was spoke by the Prophet sayinge: I wyll open my mouth in similitudes and wyll speake forth thinges which have bene kepte secrete from the begynninge of the worlde.
36 Then sent Iesus the people awaye and came to housse. And his disciples came vnto him sayinge: declare vnto vs the similitude of the tares of the felde.
37 Then answered he and sayde to them. He that soweth the good seed is the sonne of man.
38 And the felde is the worlde. And the chyldre of the kingdome they are the good seed. And the tares are the chyldren of the wicked.
39 And the enemye that soweth the is the devell. The harvest is the end of the worlde. And the repers be the angels.
40 For even as the tares are gaddred and bret in the fyre: so shall it be in the ende of this worlde.
41 The sonne of man shall send forth his angels and they shall gather out of his kyngdome all thinges that offende and them which do iniquite
42 and shall cast them into a furnes of fyre. There shalbe waylynge and gnasshing of teth.
43 Then shall the iuste men shyne as bryght as the sunne in the kyngdome of their father. Whosoever hath eares to heare let him heare.
44 Agayne the kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto treasure hidde in the felde the which a man fyndeth and hideth: and for ioy therof goeth and selleth all that he hath and byeth that felde.
45 Agayne the kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto a marchaunt that seketh good pearles
46 which when he had founde one precious pearle wet and solde all that he had and bought it.
47 Agayne the kyngdome of heven is lyke vnto a neet cast into the see that gadereth of all kyndes of fysshes:
48 which when it is full men drawe to londe and sitte and gadre the good into vessels and cast the bad awaye.
49 So shall it be at the ende of the worlde. The angels shall come oute and sever the bad from the good
50 and shall cast them into a furnes of fyre: there shalbe waylinge and gnasshynge of teth.
51 Iesus sayde vnto them: vnderstonde ye all these thynges? They sayde ye Lorde.
52 Then sayde he vnto them: Therfore every scribe which is taught vnto the kyngdome of heven is lyke an housholder which bryngeth forth out of hys treasure thynges bothe new and olde.
53 And it came to passe when Iesus had finisshed these similitudes that he departed thece
54 and came in to his awne countre and taught them in their synagoges in so moche that they were astonyed and sayde: whence cometh all this wysdome and power vnto him?
55 Is not this the carpeters sonne? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren be called Iames and Ioses and Simon and Iudas?
56 And are not his susters all here with vs? Whence hath he all these thynge.
57 And they were offended by him. The Iesus sayd to the a Prophet is not with out honoure save in hys awne countre and amonge his awne kynne.
58 And he dyd not many miracles there for there vnbelefes sake.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Unlocked Literal Bible

24 Jesus presented another parable to them. He said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25 But while people slept, his enemy came and also sowed weeds among the wheat and then went away.
26 When the blades sprouted and then produced their crop, then the weeds appeared also.
27 The servants of the landowner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How does it now have weeds?'
28 He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'So do you want us to go and pull them out?'
29 The landowner said, 'No. Because while you are pulling out the weeds, you might uproot the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First pull out the weeds and tie them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”'”
31 Then Jesus presented another parable to them. He said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field.
32 This seed is indeed the smallest of all seeds. But when it has grown, it is greater than the garden plants. It becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
33 Jesus then told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of flour until all the dough had risen.”
34 All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; and he said nothing to them without a parable.
35 This was in order that what had been said through the prophet might come true, when he said, “I will open my mouth in parables. I will say things that were hidden from the foundation of the world.”
36 Then Jesus left the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”
37 Jesus answered and said, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
38 The field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 Therefore, as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all the things that cause sin and those who commit iniquity.
42 They will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
43 Then will the righteous people shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him listen.
44 The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man found it and hid it. In his joy he goes, sells everything he possesses, and buys that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a merchant looking for valuable pearls.
46 When he found one pearl of very great value, he went and sold everything that he possessed and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea, and that gathered creatures of every kind.
48 When it was filled, the fishermen drew it up on the beach. Then they sat down and gathered the good things into containers, but the worthless things they threw away.
49 It will be this way at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from among the righteous.
50 They will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
51 Have you understood all these things?” The disciples said to him, “Yes.”
52 Then Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is the owner of a house, who draws out old and new things from his treasure.”
53 Then it came about that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from that place.
54 Then Jesus entered his own region and taught the people in their synagogue. The result was that they were astonished and said, “Where does this man get his wisdom and these miracles from?
55 Is not this man the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? Are not his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
56 Are not all his sisters with us? Where did he get all these things?”
57 They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own family.”
58 He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Noah Webster Bible

24 Another parable he proposed to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and departed.
26 But when the blade had sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said to him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said to them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said to him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them?
29 But he said, No; lest while ye gather the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
31 Another parable he proposed to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge on its branches.
33 Another parable he spoke to them; The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable he spoke not to them:
35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came to him, saying, Declare to us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 He answered and said to them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one ;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them who do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hid in a field; which, when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
48 Which, when it was full, they drew to the shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast away the bad.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
51 Jesus saith to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yes, Lord.
52 Then said he to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of heaven, is like a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
54 And when he had come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 And he did not many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

51 Yeshua said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”
52 He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”
53 When Yeshua had finished these parables, he departed from there.
54 Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
55 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Miriam, and his brothers Jacob, Yosi, Simon, and Judah?
56 Aren’t all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?”
57 They were offended by him. But Yeshua said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and in his own house.”
58 He didn’t do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

24 He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
25 but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also amongst the wheat, and went away.
34 Yeshua spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
36 Then Yeshua sent the multitudes away, and went into the house.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

24 Another parable Jesus put forth to them, and said, The kingdom of heavens is made like to a man, that sowed good seed in his field.
25 And when men slept, his enemy came, and sowed above tares, or darnels, or cockles, in the middle of wheat, and went away.
26 But when the herb was grown, and made fruit, then the tares, or the darnels, or cockles, appeared.
27 And the servants of the husband-man came, and said to him, Lord, whether hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whereof then hath it tares, or darnels, or cockles?
28 And he said to them, An enemy hath done this thing. And the servants said to him, Wilt thou that we go, and gather them?
29 And he said, Nay, lest peradven-ture ye in gathering tares, or the darnels, or cockles, draw up with them also the wheat by the root.
30 Suffer ye them both to wax into reaping time; and in the time of ripe corn, I shall say to the reapers, First gather ye together the tares, or the darnels, or cockles, and bind them together in knitches, or small bundles, to be burnt, but gather ye the wheat into my barn.
31 Another parable Jesus put forth to them, and said, The kingdom of heavens is like to a corn of sinapi, which a man took, and sowed in his field.
32 Which truly is the least of all seeds, but when it hath waxen, it is the most of all worts, and is made a tree; so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the boughs or the branches thereof.
33 Another parable Jesus spake to them or He spake another parable to them, The kingdom of heavens is like to sourdough, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it were all soured.
34 Jesus spake all these things in parables to the people, and he spake not to them without parables,
35 that it should be fulfilled, that is said by the prophet, saying, I shall open my mouth in parables; I shall tell out hid things or things hid from the making of the world.
36 Then he left the people, and came into an house; and his disciples came to him, and said, Expound to us the parable of the tares, or the darnels, or cockles, of the field.
37 Which answered, and said, He that soweth good seed is man’s Son;
38 the field is the world; but the good seed, these be the sons of the kingdom, but tares, these be evil children, or forsooth darnels, or cockles, these be evil sons or sons of the wicked;
39 the enemy that soweth them is the fiend or the devil; and the ripe corn is the ending of the world, the reapers be angels.
40 Therefore as tares, or darnels, or cockles, be gathered together, and be burnt in the fire, so it shall be in the ending of the world.
41 Man’s Son shall send his angels, and they shall gather from his realm all causes of stumbling, and them that do wickedness;
42 and they shall send them into the chimney of fire; there shall be weeping, and beating together of teeth.
43 Then just men shall shine as the sun, in the realm of their Father. He that hath ears of hearing, hear he.
44 The kingdom of heavens is like to treasure hid in a field, which a man that findeth, hideth; and for joy of it he goeth, and selleth all things that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again the kingdom of heavens is like to a merchant, that seeketh good margarites or good pearls;
46 but when he hath found one precious margarite, he went, and sold all things that he had, and bought it.
47 Again the kingdom of heavens is like to a net cast into the sea, and that gathereth together of all kinds of fishes;
48 which when it was full, they drew it up, and sat by the brink, and chose the good into their vessels, but the evil they cast out.
49 So it shall be in the end of the world. Angels shall go out, and shall separate evil men from the middle or the midst of just men.
50 And they shall send them into the chimney of fire; there shall be weeping, and grinding of teeth.
51 Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea.
52 He saith to them, Therefore every wise man of the law taught in the kingdom of heavens, is like to an husbandman, that bringeth forth of his treasure new things and old.
53 And it was done, when Jesus had ended these parables, he passed from thence.
54 And he came into his country, and taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered, and said, From whence this wisdom and virtues came to this? or to him?
55 Whether this is not the son of a carpenter? Whether his mother be not said Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
56 and his sisters, whether they all be not among us? From whence then all these things come or came to this? or to him?
57 And so they were offended in him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and in his own house.

24 Another parable Jesus put forth to them, and said, The kingdom of heavens is made like to a man, that sowed good seed in his field.
25 And when men slept, his enemy came, and sowed above tares in the middle of (the) wheat, +or and sowed above darnels, or cockles, in the midst of the wheat, and (then) went away.
26 But when the herb was grown, and made fruit, then the tares, or the darnels, or (the) cockles, appeared.
27 And the servants of the husbandman came, and said to him, Lord, whether hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whereof then hath it tares, or darnels, or cockles?
28 And he said to them, An enemy hath done this thing. And the servants said to him, Wilt thou that we go, and gather them?
29 And he said, Nay, lest peradventure ye in gathering (the) tares, or the darnels, or (the) cockles, draw up with them also the wheat by the root.
30 Suffer ye them both to wax into reaping time; and in the time of ripe corn, I shall say to the reapers, (or Allow them both to grow until harvest time; and at harvest time, I shall say to the harvesters), First gather ye together the tares, or the darnels, or (the) cockles, and bind them together in knitches, or small bundles, to be burnt, but gather ye the wheat into my barn.
31 Another parable Jesus put forth to them, and said, The kingdom of heavens is like to a corn of sinapi, which a man took, and sowed in his field. (Jesus put forth another parable to them, and said, The Kingdom of Heaven is like a kernel, or a grain, of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field.)
32 Which truly is the least of all seeds, but when it hath waxen, it is the most of all worts, (or but when it hath grown, it is the largest of all herbs, or all plants), and is made (into) a tree; so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the boughs or in the branches thereof.
33 Another parable Jesus spake to them or He spake another parable to them, The kingdom of heavens is like to sourdough (or is like yeast), which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it were all soured (or until it was all leavened).
34 Jesus spake all these things in parables to the people, and he spake not to them without parables,
35 (so) that it should be fulfilled, that is said by the prophet, saying, I shall open my mouth in parables; I shall tell out hid things or things hid from the making of the world (or I shall tell out hidden things from the creation of the world).
36 Then he left the people (or Then he dismissed the people, or let them go), and came into an house; and his disciples came to him, and said, Expound to us the parable of the tares, or the darnels, or (the) cockles, of the field.
37 Which answered, and said, He that soweth good seed is man’s Son;
38 the field is the world; but the good seed, these be the sons of the kingdom, but (the) tares, these be (the) evil children, or forsooth (the) darnels, or (the) cockles, these be (the) sons of the wicked (one);
39 the enemy that soweth them is the fiend or the devil; and the ripe corn (or the harvest) is the ending of the world, the reapers be (the) angels.
40 Therefore as (the) tares, or (the) darnels, or (the) cockles, be gathered together, and be burnt in the fire, so it shall be in the ending of the world.
41 Man’s Son shall send his angels, and they shall gather from his realm all causes of stumbling, and them that do wickedness;
42 and they shall send them into the chimney of fire; there shall be weeping, and beating together of teeth (or and grinding of teeth).
43 Then just men shall shine as the sun, in the realm of their Father (or in their Father’s Kingdom). He that hath ears of hearing, hear he.
44 The kingdom of heavens is like to (a) treasure hid in a field (or The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field), which a man that findeth, hideth; and for (the) joy of it he goeth, and selleth all (the) things that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again the kingdom of heavens is like to a merchant, that seeketh good margarites or good pearls;
46 but when he hath found one precious margarite (or one precious pearl), he went, and sold all (the) things that he had, and bought it.
47 Again the kingdom of heavens is like to a net cast into the sea, and that gathereth together of all kinds of fishes;
48 which when it was full, they drew it up, and sat by the brink, and chose the good into their vessels, but the evil they cast out. (which when it was full, they drew it up, and sat on the shore, and chose the good ones for their pails, or their baskets, but the bad ones they threw away.)
49 So it shall be in the end(ing) of the world. Angels shall go out, and shall separate evil men from the middle or from the midst of just men.
53 And it was done, when Jesus had ended these parables, he passed from thence (or he went away from there).
54 And he came into his country, and taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered, and said, From whence this wisdom and virtues, (or works of power, or miracles), came to this? or Whereof to him this wisdom and virtues? (or From where did he get such wisdom and power to work such miracles?)
55 Whether this is not the son of a carpenter? Whether his mother be not said Mary? (or Is not his mother called Mary?), and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
56 and his sisters, whether they all be not among us? From whence then all these things come or came to this? and his sisters, whether they be not all among us? Therefore whereof to him all these things?
57 And so they were offended in him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, no but in his own country, and in his own house. (And so they were offended by him, or they were contemptuous of him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, except in his own hometown, and among his own family.)
58 And he did not there many virtues, for the unbelief of them. (And he did not do many works of power, or miracles, there, because of their unbelief.)

Matthew 13:24-58 in Wycliffe Bible

24 Anothir parable Jhesus puttide forth to hem, and seide, The kyngdom of heuenes is maad lijk to a man, that sewe good seed in his feld.
25 And whanne men slepten, his enemy cam, and sewe aboue taris in the myddil of whete, and wente awei.
26 But whanne the erbe was growed, and made fruyt, thanne the taris apperiden.
27 And the seruauntis of the hosebonde man camen, and seiden to hym, Lord, whether hast thou not sowun good seed in thi feeld? where of thanne hath it taris?
28 And he seide to hem, An enemy hath do this thing. And the seruauntis seiden to him, `Wolt thou that we goon, and gaderen hem?
29 And he seide, Nay, lest perauenture ye in gaderynge taris drawen vp with hem the whete bi the roote.
30 Suffre ye hem bothe to wexe in to repyng tyme; and in the tyme of ripe corne Y shal seie to the reperis, First gadere ye to gidere the taris, and bynde hem to gidere in knytchis to be brent, but gadere ye whete in to my berne.
31 Another parable Jhesus puttide forth to hem, and seide, The kyngdom of heuenes is lijk to a corn of seneuey, which a man took, and sewe in his feeld.
32 Which is the leeste of alle seedis, but whanne it hath woxen, it is the moste of alle wortis, and is maad a tre; so that briddis of the eir comen, and dwellen in the bowis therof.
33 Another parable Jhesus spac to hem, The kyngdom of heuenes is lijk to sour douy, which a womman took, and hidde in thre mesuris of mele, til it were alle sowrid.
34 Jhesus spac alle thes thingis in parablis to the puple, and he spac not to hem with out parablis, that it schulde be fulfillid,
35 that is seid bi the prophete, seiynge, Y shal opene my mouth in parablis; Y shal telle out hid thingis fro the makyng of the world.
36 Thanne he lefte the puple, and cam in to an hous; and hise disciplis camen to him, and seiden, Expowne to vs the parable of taris of the feeld.
37 Which answeride, and seide, He that sowith good seed is mannus sone;
38 the feeld is the world; but the good seed, these ben sones of the kyngdom, but taris, these ben yuele children;
39 the enemye that sowith hem is the feend; and the ripe corn is the endyng of the world, the reperis ben aungels.
40 Therfor as taris ben gaderid togidere, and ben brent in fier, so it shal be in the endyng of the world.
41 Mannus sone shal sende hise aungels, and thei schulen gadere fro his rewme alle sclaundris, and hem that doon wickidnesse;
42 and thei schulen sende hem in to the chymney of fier, there shal be weping and betyng to gidere of teeth.
43 Thanne iuste men schulen schyne as the sunne, in the rewme of her fadir. He that hath eeris of heryng, here he.
44 The kyngdom of heuenes is lijk to tresour hid in a feld, which a man that fyndith, hidith; and for ioye of it he goith, and sillith alle thingis that he hath, and bieth thilk feeld.
45 Eftsoone the kyngdom of heuenes is lijk to a marchaunt, that sechith good margaritis;
46 but whanne he hath foundun o precious margarite, he wente, and selde alle thingis that he hadde, and bouyte it.
47 Eft the kyngdom of heuenes is lijk to a nette cast into the see, and that gaderith to gidere of al kynde of fisschis;
48 which whanne it was ful, thei drowen vp, and seten bi the brenke, and chesen the goode in to her vessels, but the yuel thei kesten out.
49 So it schal be in the endyng of the world. Aungels schulen go out, and schulen departe yuel men fro the myddil of iuste men.
50 And thei shulen sende hem in to the chymnei of fier; ther shal be weping and gryntyng of teeth.
51 Han ye vndirstonde alle these thingis? Thei seien to hym, Yhe.
52 He seith to hem, Therfor euery wise man of lawe in the kyngdom of heuenes, is lijk to an hosebonde man, that bryngith forth of his tresoure newe thingis and elde.
53 And it was doon, whanne Jhesus hadde endid these parablis, he passide fro thennus.
54 And he cam in to his cuntrei, and tauyte hem in her synagogis, so that thei wondriden, and seiden, Fro whennus this wisdam and vertues camen to this?
55 Whether `is not this the sone of a carpentere? Whether his modir be not seid Marie? and hise britheren, James, and Joseph, and Symount, and Judas? and hise sistris,
56 whether thei alle ben not among us? Fro whennus thanne `alle thes thingis camen to this?
57 And so thei weren sclaundrid in hym. But Jhesus seide to hem, A profete is not with oute worschip, but in his owen cuntre, and in his owen hous.
58 And he dide not there manye vertues, for the vnbileue of hem.

Matthew 13:24-58 in Young's Literal Translation

24 Another simile he set before them, saying: 'The reign of the heavens was likened to a man sowing good seed in his field,
25 and, while men are sleeping, his enemy came and sowed darnel in the midst of the wheat, and went away,
26 and when the herb sprang up, and yielded fruit, then appeared also the darnel.
27 'And the servants of the householder, having come near, said to him, Sir, good seed didst thou not sow in thy field? whence then hath it the darnel?
28 And he saith to them, A man, an enemy, did this; and the servants said to him, Wilt thou, then, that having gone away we may gather it up?
29 'And he said, No, lest — gathering up the darnel — ye root up with it the wheat,
30 suffer both to grow together till the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the darnel, and bind it in bundles, to burn it, and the wheat gather up into my storehouse.'
31 Another simile he set before them, saying: 'The reign of the heavens is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, did sow in his field,
32 which less, indeed, is than all the seeds, but when it may be grown, is greatest of the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven do come and rest in its branches.'
33 Another simile spake he to them: 'The reign of the heavens is like to leaven, which a woman having taken, hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.'
34 All these things spake Jesus in similes to the multitudes, and without a simile he was not speaking to them,
35 that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying, 'I will open in similes my mouth, I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world.'
36 Then having let away the multitudes, Jesus came to the house, and his disciples came near to him, saying, 'Explain to us the simile of the darnel of the field.'
37 And he answering said to them, 'He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Man,
38 and the field is the world, and the good seed, these are the sons of the reign, and the darnel are the sons of the evil one,
39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is a full end of the age, and the reapers are messengers.
40 'As, then, the darnel is gathered up, and is burned with fire, so shall it be in the full end of this age,
41 the Son of Man shall send forth his messengers, and they shall gather up out of his kingdom all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing the unlawlessness,
42 and shall cast them to the furnace of the fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.
43 'Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the reign of their Father. He who is having ears to hear — let him hear.
44 'Again, the reign of the heavens is like to treasure hid in the field, which a man having found did hide, and from his joy goeth, and all, as much as he hath, he selleth, and buyeth that field.
45 'Again, the reign of the heavens is like to a man, a merchant, seeking goodly pearls,
46 who having found one pearl of great price, having gone away, hath sold all, as much as he had, and bought it.
47 'Again, the reign of the heavens is like to a net that was cast into the sea, and did gather together of every kind,
48 which, when it was filled, having drawn up again upon the beach, and having sat down, they gathered the good into vessels, and the bad they did cast out,
49 so shall it be in the full end of the age, the messengers shall come forth and separate the evil out of the midst of the righteous,
50 and shall cast them to the furnace of the fire, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.'
51 Jesus saith to them, 'Did ye understand all these?' They say to him, 'Yes, sir.'
52 And he said to them, 'Because of this every scribe having been discipled in regard to the reign of the heavens, is like to a man, a householder, who doth bring forth out of his treasure things new and old.'
53 And it came to pass, when Jesus finished these similes, he removed thence,
54 and having come to his own country, he was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and were saying, 'Whence to this one this wisdom and the mighty works?
55 is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 and his sisters — are they not all with us? whence, then, to this one all these?'
57 and they were stumbled at him. And Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honour except in his own country, and in his own house:'
58 and he did not there many mighty works, because of their unbelief.
