Luke 8:9-47 in American Standard Version (1901)

9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be.
10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to the rest in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 And those by the way side are they that have heard; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.
13 And those on the rock are they who, when they have heard, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among the thorns, these are they that have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bring forth fruit with patience.
16 And no man, when he hath lighted a lamp, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but putteth it on a stand, that they that enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is hid, that shall not be made manifest; nor anything secret, that shall not be known and come to light.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he thinketh he hath.
19 And there came to him his mother and brethren, and they could not come at him for the crowd.
20 And it was told him, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 But he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these that hear the word of God, and do it.
22 Now it came to pass on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples; and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake: and they launched forth.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. And he awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And being afraid they marvelled, saying one to another, Who then is this, that he commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he was come forth upon the land, there met him a certain man out of the city, who had demons; and for a long time he had worn no clothes, and abode not in any house, but in the tombs.
28 And when he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29 For he was commanding the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For oftentimes it had seized him: and he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters; and breaking the bands asunder, he was driven of the demon into the deserts.
30 And Jesus asked him, What is thy name? And he said, Legion; for many demons were entered into him.
31 And they entreated him that he would not command them to depart into the abyss.
32 Now there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they entreated him that he would give them leave to enter into them. And he gave them leave.
33 And the demons came out from the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, and were drowned.
34 And when they that fed them saw what had come to pass, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country.
35 And they went out to see what had come to pass; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus: and they were afraid.
36 And they that saw it told them how he that was possessed with demons was made whole.
37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes round about asked him to depart from them; for they were holden with great fear: and he entered into a boat, and returned.
38 But the man from whom the demons were gone out prayed him that he might be with him: but he sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thy house, and declare how great things God hath done for thee. And he went his way, publishing throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done for him.
40 And as Jesus returned, the multitude welcomed him; for they were all waiting for him.
41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him to come into his house;
42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went the multitudes thronged him.
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, who had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be healed of any,
44 came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately the issue of her blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who is it that touched me? And when all denied, Peter said, and they that were with him, Master, the multitudes press thee and crush thee.
46 But Jesus said, Some one did touch me; for I perceived that power had gone forth from me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people for what cause she touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

Luke 8:9-47 in Translation for Translators

9 Jesus' disciples later asked him about the meaning of the parable he had just told.
10 He said, “God is revealing to you what he did not reveal before, about how he wants to rule MET over people's lives. But when I am telling other people about these things, I tell them only in parables. The result will be like a prophet predicted long ago: They will see what I am doing, but will not perceive what it means. They will hear what I am saying, but will not understand it.
11 So this is the meaning of that parable: The seeds represent God's message.
12 Some people are like the path on which some of the seeds fell. When these people hear God's message, the devil comes and causes them to forget what they have heard. As a result, they do not believe it, and will not be saved { God will not save them}.
13 Some people are like the soil with rock underneath. When they hear God's message, they accept it joyfully. But because it does not penetrate deeply MET into their inner beings, they believe it for only a short time. They are like the plants that did not have deep roots. When difficult things happen to them, they stop believing God's message.
14 Some people are like the soil that had roots of thorny weeds in it. They are people who accept God's message, but later on they worry about things, and try to become rich, and enjoy things that give them a lot of pleasure. So they do not become spiritually mature.
15 But some people are like the good soil. They hear God's message and accept it. They become good, honest people, and they continue doing things that please God MET.”
16 “After people light a lamp, they do not cover it with a basket or put it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a lampstand, so that those who enter their house can see things from its light MET. Similarly, you must tell God's truth to others so that they can know what I can do for them.
17 God wants to make clear all of his truth that was not evident previously. He intends that all of the truth that he had not revealed before be told openly {that his people openly tell others all of the truth that he has not revealed before}.
18 So listen carefully to what I tell you, because God will enable those who accept my truth to understand even more. But God will cause those who do not accept my truth to not understand even the little that they think they have understood.”
19 One day Jesus' mother and his younger brothers came to see him, but they could not get near him because there was a large crowd around him in the house.
20 Someone told him, “Your mother and your younger brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “Those who hear God's message and obey it are as dear to me MET as my mother and my brothers.”
22 One day Jesus got into a boat with his disciples. He said to them, “Let's go around to the other side of the lake.” So they started to go.
23 As they were sailing, he fell asleep. A big windstorm struck the lake. Soon the boat was filling with water, and they were in danger.
24 Jesus' disciples woke him up. They said to him, “Master! Master! We (inc) are going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and told the waves to be calm. The wind immediately stopped blowing and the waves calmed down. The lake became calm.
25 He said to them, “◄I am disappointed that you did not trust me to help you!/Why did you not trust me to help you?►” RHQ They were afraid. They were also amazed. They said to each other, “◄What kind of man is this?/This man is not like ordinary men!► RHQ He not only commands people, but when he commands the wind and the water, they also obey him!”
26 Jesus and his disciples arrived at the region near Gerasa, a town which was on the eastern side of Lake Galilee.
27 There was a man in that region in whom demons lived. He was from the town of Gerasa. (OR, In that area there was a man from that town whom demons controlled.) For a long time he had not worn clothes. He did not live in a house. Instead, he lived in burial caves.
28 Many times demons attacked him. He was guarded { People tried to guard him} so that he would not injure others. Chains were fastened {They fastened chains} on his hands and shackles on his feet, but he would break the chains and shackles. Then he would be sent away by the demons {the demons would send him away} to some desolate area. When Jesus stepped out of the boat onto the shore, the man saw him. He ran to Jesus and prostrated himself before him. Then Jesus commanded, “You evil spirit, come out of that man!” But it did not leave immediately. Instead, it caused the man to shout very loudly, “Jesus, Son of the great God in heaven, since we (inc) have nothing in common, leave me alone RHQ! I beg you, do not torture me now!”
30 In order to expel the demon more easily, Jesus asked the demon, “What is your (sg) name?” He replied, “My name is Crowd/Mob.” He said that because many demons had entered that man.
31 The demons kept begging Jesus that he would not command them to go into the deep place where God punishes demons.
32 There was a large herd of pigs ◄grazing/rooting for food► on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus that he allow them to enter the pigs. So he did.
33 The demons left the man and entered the pigs. Then the herd of pigs rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
34 When the men who were taking care of the pigs saw what happened, they ran! They told people inside the town and outside the town what had happened.
35 So people went out to see what had happened. When they came to where Jesus was, they saw that the man from whom Jesus had expelled the demons was sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to him. He had clothes on, and his mind was normal again. Then those people became afraid because they thought that Jesus would destroy more of their property (OR, because they realized that he must be very powerful).
36 The people who had seen what happened told those who had just arrived how Jesus had healed the man whom demons were controlling before.
37 Then those people and many other people HYP from the area near Gerasa asked Jesus to leave their area. They were very afraid of what else Jesus would do to them. So Jesus and the disciples got into the boat to go back across the lake.
38 The man from whom he had expelled the demons begged him saying, “ Please, let me go with you!” But Jesus refused. Instead, he said to him,
39 “ No, go home and tell people how much God has done for you!” Then he sent him away. So the man went away and told people throughout the nearby town how much Jesus had done for him.
40 When Jesus and the disciples returned to Capernaum, a crowd of people who had been waiting for him welcomed him.
41 Just then a man named Jairus, who was one of the leaders ◄of the synagogue/of the Jewish meeting place► there, came near and prostrated himself at Jesus' feet. He pleaded with Jesus, “Please come to my house and heal my daughter,
42 my only daughter, who is about twelve years old, because she is dying!” As Jesus went with him, many people crowded close to Jesus.
43 Then a woman came near. She had been suffering from constant vaginal EUP bleeding for twelve years, but she could not be healed by anyone {no one could heal her}.
44 She came behind Jesus and touched the edge of his robe in order to be healed. At once her bleeding stopped.
45 Jesus said, “Who touched me?” When everyone said that they had not touched him, Peter said, “Lord, there is a large crowd of people around you (sg) and crowding against you, so any one of them might have touched you!”
46 But Jesus said, “ I know that someone deliberately touched me, because my power has healed someone who touched me.”
47 When the woman realized that she could not prevent Jesus (OR, people) from knowing that she was healed, her body began to shake. She was afraid that because she had disobeyed the law that a woman with such a condition should not touch others, Jesus might scold her for doing that. She prostrated herself before Jesus. As the other people were listening, she told why she had touched him and how she had been healed immediately.

9 Then his disciples asked him, “What does this parable mean?”
10 He said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God’s Kingdom, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’

13 Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation.
14 What fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life; and they bring no fruit to maturity.
15 Those in the good ground, these are those who with an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and produce fruit with perseverance.
16 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
18 Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”
19 His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd.
20 Some people told him, “Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you.”
21 But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
22 Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out.
23 But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water.
24 They came to him and awoke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are dying!” He awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; then they ceased, and it was calm.
25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Being afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, “Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”
26 Then they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn’t live in a house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, “What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torment me!”
29 For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered into him.
31 They begged him that he would not command them to go into the abyss.
32 Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. Then he allowed them.
33 The demons came out of the man and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.
35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 Those who saw it told them how he who had been possessed by demons was healed.
37 All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. Then he entered into the boat and returned.
38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you.” He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
40 When Jesus returned, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
41 Behold, a man named Jairus came. He was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged him to come into his house,
42 for he had an only born daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes pressed against him.
43 A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians and could not be healed by any,
44 came behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak. Immediately the flow of her blood stopped.
45 Jesus said, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.”
47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

Luke 8:9-47 in Bible in Basic English

9 And his disciples put questions to him about the point of the story.
10 And he said, To you is given knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to the others, they are given in stories, so that seeing, they may not see, and though they give hearing, the sense will not be clear to them.
11 Now this is the point of the story: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the side of the road are those who have given hearing; then the Evil One comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not have faith and get salvation.
13 And those on the rock are those who with joy give hearing to the word; but having no root, they have faith for a time, and when the test comes they give up.
14 And those which went among thorns are those who have given hearing, and go on their way, but they are overcome by cares and wealth and the pleasures of life, and they give no fruit.
15 And those in the good earth are those who, having given ear to the word, keep it with a good and true heart, and in quiet strength give fruit.
16 No man, when the light is lighted, puts a cover over it, or puts it under a bed, but he puts it on its table, so that those who come in may see the light.
17 For nothing is put out of view which will not be made clear, and nothing is secret of which the knowledge will not come to light.
18 So take care how you give hearing, for to him who has will be given, and from him who has not will be taken even what he seems to have.
19 And his mother and his brothers came to him, and they were not able to get near him because of the great number of people.
20 And someone said to him, Your mother and your brothers are outside desiring to see you.
21 But he said to them in answer, My mother and my brothers are those who have knowledge of the word of God and do it.
22 Now it came about on one of those days that he got into a boat with his disciples; and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the water: and they put out the boat.
23 But while they were sailing he went to sleep: and a storm of wind came down on the sea, and the boat became full of water and they were in danger.
24 Then they came to him and, awaking him out of his sleep, said, Master, Master, destruction is near. And he, when he was awake, gave orders to the wind and the rolling waves, and the storm came to an end, and all was calm.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And fear and wonder overcame them, and they said to one another, Who then is this, who gives orders even to the winds and the water and they do what he says?
26 And they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 And when he had come to the land, there came to him a certain man from the town who had evil spirits; and for a long time he had had no clothing on, and was not living in a house but in the place of the dead.
28 And when he saw Jesus, he gave a loud cry and went down on the earth before him and in a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Do not be cruel to me.
29 For he gave an order to the evil spirit to come out of the man. For frequently it would take a grip of him: and he was kept under control, and prisoned with chains; but parting the chains in two, he would be sent by the driving of the evil spirit into waste places.
30 And Jesus said to him, What is your name? And he said, Legion; for a number of spirits had gone into him.
31 And they made a request to him that he would not give them an order to go away into the deep.
32 Now there was a great herd of pigs in that place, getting food on the mountain: and the evil spirits made a request to him that he would let them go into the pigs, and he let them.
33 And the evil spirits came out of the man and went into the pigs: and the herd went rushing down a sharp slope into the water and came to destruction.
34 And when the men who took care of them saw what had come about, they went quickly and gave news of it in the town and the country.
35 And they went out to see what had taken place, and they came to Jesus and saw the man out of whom the evil spirits had gone, seated, clothed and with full use of his senses, at the feet of Jesus; and fear came on them.
36 And those who had seen it gave them an account of how the man who had the evil spirits was made well.
37 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes made a request to him to go away from them; for they were in great fear: and he got into a boat and went back.
38 But the man from whom the evil spirits had gone out had a great desire to be with him, but he sent him away, saying,
39 Go back to your house and let them have news of all the great things which God has done for you. And he went away, giving word through all the town of the great things which Jesus had done for him.
40 And when Jesus went back, the people were glad to see him, for they were all waiting for him.
41 Then there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler in the Synagogue: and he went down at the feet of Jesus, desiring him to come to his house;
42 For he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was near to death. But while he was on his way, the people were pushing to be near him.
43 And a woman, who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had given all her money to medical men, and not one of them was able to make her well,
44 Came after him and put her hand on the edge of his robe, and straight away the flowing of her blood was stopped.
45 And Jesus said, Who was touching me? And when they all said, It is not I, Peter and those who were with him said, Master, the people are pushing round you on every side.
46 But Jesus said, Someone was touching me, for I had the feeling that power had gone out from me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not able to keep it secret, she came, shaking with fear, and falling down before him she made clear before all the people the reason for her touching him, and how she was made well straight away.

9 And his disciples asked him saying, What may this parable be?
10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables, in order that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
11 But the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 But those by the wayside are those who hear; then comes the devil and takes away the word from their heart that they may not believe and be saved.
13 But those upon the rock, those who when they hear receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of trial fall away.
14 But that that fell where the thorns were, these are they who having heard go away and are choked under cares and riches and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that in the good ground, these are they who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
16 And no one having lighted a lamp covers it with a vessel or puts it under a couch, but sets it on a lamp-stand, that they who enter in may see the light.
17 For there is nothing hid which shall not become manifest, nor secret which shall not be known and come to light.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear; for whosoever has, to him shall be given, and whosoever has not, even what he seems to have shall be taken from him.
19 And his mother and his brethren came to him, and could not get to him because of the crowd.
20 And it was told him saying, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, wishing to see thee.
21 But he answering said to them, My mother and my brethren are those who hear the word of God and do it.
22 And it came to pass on one of the days, that he entered into a ship, himself and his disciples; and he said to them, Let us pass over to the other side of the lake; and they set off from shore.
23 And as they sailed, he fell asleep; and a sudden squall of wind came down on the lake, and they were filled with water, and were in danger;
24 and coming to him they woke him up, saying, Master, master, we perish. But he, rising up, rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And, being afraid, they were astonished, saying to one another, Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
26 And they arrived in the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And as he got out of the ship on the land, a certain man out of the city met him, who had demons a long time, and put on no clothes, and did not abide in a house, but in the tombs.
28 But seeing Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee torment me not.
29 For he had commanded the unclean spirit to go out from the man. For very often it had seized him; and he had been bound, kept with chains and fetters; and breaking the bonds he was driven by the demon into the deserts.
30 And Jesus asked him saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: for many demons had entered into him.
31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go away into the bottomless pit.
32 And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain, and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into those; and he suffered them.
33 And the demons, going out from the man, entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the precipice into the lake, and were choked.
34 But they that fed them, seeing what had happened, fled, and told it to the city and to the country.
35 And they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting, clothed and sensible, at the feet of Jesus. And they were afraid.
36 And they also who had seen it told them how the possessed man had been healed.
37 And all the multitude of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were possessed with great fear; and he, entering into the ship, returned.
38 But the man out of whom the demons had gone besought him that he might be with him. But he sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thine house and relate how great things God has done for thee. And he went away through the whole city, publishing how great things Jesus had done for him.
40 And it came to pass when Jesus returned, the crowd received him gladly, for they were all expecting him.
41 And behold, a man came, whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and falling at the feet of Jesus besought him to come to his house,
42 because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. And as he went the crowds thronged him.
43 And a woman who had a flux of blood since twelve years, who, having spent all her living on physicians, could not be cured by any one,
44 coming up behind, touched the hem of his garment, and immediately her flux of blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said, Who has touched me? But all denying, Peter and those with him said, Master, the crowds close thee in and press upon thee, and sayest thou, Who has touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Some one has touched me, for I have known that power has gone out from me.
47 And the woman, seeing that she was not hid, came trembling, and falling down before him declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was immediately healed.

9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be.
10 To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved.
13 Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit.
15 But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.
16 Now no man lighting a candle covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it upon a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light.
17 For there is not any thing secret that shall not be made manifest, nor hidden, that shall not be known and come abroad.
18 Take heed therefore how you hear. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given: and whosoever hath not, that also which he thinketh he hath, shall be taken away from him.
19 And his mother and brethren came unto him; and they could not come at him for the crowd.
20 And it was told him: Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 Who answering, said to them: My mother and my brethren are they who hear the word of God, and do it.
22 And it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a little ship with his disciples, and he said to them: Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

24 And they came and awaked him, saying: Master, we perish. But he arising, rebuked the wind and the rage of the water; and it ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said to them: Where is your faith? Who being afraid, wondered, saying one to another: Who is this, (think you), that he commandeth both the winds and the sea, and they obey him?
26 And they sailed to the country of the Gerasens, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he was come forth to the land, there met him a certain man who had a devil now a very long time, and he wore no clothes, neither did he abide in a house, but in the sepulchres.
28 And when he saw Jesus, he fell down before him; and crying out with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I beseech thee, do not torment me.
29 For he commanded the unclean spirit to go out of the man. For many times it seized him, and he was bound with chains, and kept in fetters; and breaking the bonds, he was driven by the devil into the deserts.

33 The devils therefore went out of the man, and entered into the swine; and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were stifled.
34 Which when they that fed them saw done, they fled away, and told it in the city and in the villages.
35 And they went out to see what was done; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at his feet, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 And they also that had seen, told them how he had been healed from the legion.
37 And all the multitude of the country of the Gerasens besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear. And he, going up into the ship, returned back again.
38 Now the man, out of whom the devils were departed, besought him that he might be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying:
39 Return to thy house, and tell how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through the whole city, publishing how great things Jesus had done to him.
40 And it came to pass, that when Jesus was returned, the multitude received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41 And behold there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, beseeching him that he would come into his house:
42 For he had an only daughter, almost twelve years old, and she was dying. And it happened as he went, that he was thronged by the multitudes.
43 And there was a certain woman having an issue of blood twelve years, who had bestowed all her substance on physicians, and could not be healed by any.
44 She came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment; and immediately the issue of her blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said: Who is it that touched me? And all denying, Peter and they that were with him said: Master, the multitudes throng and press thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said: Somebody hath touched me; for I know that virtue is gone out from me.
47 And the woman seeing that she was not hid, came trembling, and fell down before his feet, and declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was immediately healed.

9 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?”
10 And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest they are in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand.’
11 “Now this is the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12 And those beside the road are they that hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, lest they believe and be saved.
13 But those on the rock are they that, whenever they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of testing fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns, these are those, who when they have heard, go out and are choked with anxieties, riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
15 But that which fell on the good ground, these are such who when they heard the word, with a noble and good heart, hold on to it and bear fruit with endurance.
16 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
17 For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest, nor anything concealed which will not be known and come to light.
18 Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, more shall be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.”
19 Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd.
20 And it was told Him by some, who said, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.”
21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” And they put out to sea.
23 But as they sailed, He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down onto the lake, and they were being filled with water, and were in danger.
24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But becoming afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this? For He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!”
26 Then they sailed to the region of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 And when He got out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house, but among the tombs.
28 And seeing Jesus and crying out, he fell down before Him, and with a loud voice he said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!”
29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For it had seized him at times, and he was bound, kept under guard, with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.
30 Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered into him.
31 And he kept imploring Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
32 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding there on the mountain. And they kept imploring Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them.
33 Then when the demons came out from the man, they entered into the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
34 And when those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and reported it in the city and in the country.
35 Then they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had come out of, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and being of sound mind. And they were afraid.
36 And those also who saw reported to them how the demon-possessed man was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude from the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to go away from them, because they were gripped with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned.
38 Now the man from whom the demons had come out was begging Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he departed, proclaiming throughout the whole city all the things that Jesus did for him.
40 So it was, when Jesus returned, that the crowd welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him.
41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a leader of the synagogue. And falling at the feet of Jesus, he was imploring Him to enter into his house,
42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He was going, the crowds were pressing against Him.
43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who though she had spent her whole livelihood on physicians, was not able to be healed by anyone,
44 approaching from behind, touched the hem of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the crowds are pressing You hard and crowding You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched Me, for I perceived that power has gone out from Me.”
47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she recounted to Him before all the people the reason why she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.

Luke 8:9-47 in The New Testament with Commentary

9 Then His disciples asked Him saying, “What does this parable mean?”
10 So He said: “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, but to the rest only in parables, so that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’
11 “Now here is the parable: The seed is the Word of God.
12 Those along the road are those who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, in order that they not be saved, having believed.
13 Those on the rock ledge are the ones who, whenever they hear, receive the word with joy; yet these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of testing fall away.
14 Now that which fell into the thorns: these are the ones who heard, yet as they go they are choked by cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
15 But that on the good ground: these are the ones who having heard the word with a noble and good heart, hold on to it and produce fruit with perseverance.”
16 Upon saying these things He called out: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear! No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but he sets it on a lamp stand, so that those who come in may see the light.
17 Further, there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything concealed that will not be made known and come into the open.
18 So be careful how you hear: Because whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
19 Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and they could not get near Him because of the crowd.
20 And it was told Him by some saying, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 But in answer He said to them, “My mother and my brothers are these, the ones who hear the word of God and do it!”
22 Now it happened on one of those days that He got into a boat with His disciples; and He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out.
23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. A windstorm descended on the lake, and they were being swamped and were in jeopardy.
24 So they came and awakened Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He got up and rebuked the wind and the waves of water—and they stopped, and there was a calm!
25 So He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But being terrified they marveled, saying to each other: “Who can this be? Because He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!”
26 Then they sailed to the district of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 Well when He stepped out on the land, a certain man of that town met Him, who had had demons for a long time—he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house, but among the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus he gave a yell, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice he said: “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torment me!”
29 because He had commanded the unclean spirit to get out of the man (it had seized him many times—he would be bound with chains and shackles, being kept under guard; then bursting the bonds he would be driven by the demon into deserted places).
30 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion” (because many demons had gone into him).
31 And he kept imploring Him that He would not order them to go away into the Abyss.
32 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding there on the hillside; and they started begging Him that He would allow them to go into those; so He gave them permission.
33 Then the demons exited the man and entered the pigs—and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned!
34 Well when the herders saw what had happened they ran away and reported it in the town and in the countryside.
35 So they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus; they found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at Jesus' feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 Also, the eyewitnesses reported to them how the demonized man was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude from the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, because they were overcome by fear. So He got into the boat and returned.
38 Now the man from whom the demons had gone out had started begging Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your house and recount how much God has done for you.” So he went his way and proclaimed all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
40 Now it happened, when Jesus returned, that the crowd welcomed Him, because they were all waiting for Him.
41 And then, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; he fell down at Jesus' feet and started begging Him to come to his house,
42 because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. Now as He was going, the crowds were pressing against Him.
43 And a woman—suffering with a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent her whole livelihood on physicians, but could not be healed by any—
44 approaching from behind touched the border of His garment; and immediately the flow of her blood stopped!
45 So Jesus said, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said: “Master, the people are pressing against you and crowding in, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, because I noticed power going out from me.”
47 Now when the woman saw that she could not hide, she came trembling, and falling down before Him she told Him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched Him, and how she was healed immediately.

Luke 8:9-47 in Free Bible Version

9 But his disciples asked him, “What does this illustration mean?”
10 Jesus replied, “You've been given insights into the mysteries of God's kingdom, but the rest are given illustrations, so that, ‘Even though they see, they don't really see; and even though they hear, they don't really understand.’
11 This is the meaning of the illustration: The seed is God's word.
12 The seeds that fall on the road are those who hear the message, but then the devil comes and steals away the truth from their minds so they won't trust in God and be saved.
13 The seeds that fall on the stony ground are those who hear and welcome the message with joy but don't have any roots. They trust for a while but when difficult times come they give up.
14 The seeds that fall among thorns are those who hear the message but it's choked out by life's distractions—worries, wealth, pleasure—so they don't produce anything.
15 The seeds sown on good earth are those who are honest and do what is right. They hear the message of truth, hold on to it, and through their perseverance produce a good harvest.
16 You don't light a lamp and then cover it with a bucket, or hide it under a bed. No, you put it on a stand, so that anyone who comes in can see the light.
17 For there's nothing hidden that won't be revealed; there's nothing secret that won't become known and obvious.
18 So pay attention how you ‘hear.’ To those who have received, more will be given; from those who don't receive, even what they think they have will be taken away!”
19 Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived, but they couldn't get through the crowd to see him.
20 Jesus was told, “Your mother and your brothers are outside. They want to see you.”
21 “My mother and my brothers are those who hear God's word, and do what it says,” Jesus replied.
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set off.
23 As they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep, and a storm came down on the lake. The boat began filling with water and they were in danger of sinking.
24 They went over to Jesus and woke him up. “Master, master, we're going to drown!” they said. Jesus woke up and commanded the wind and the rough waves to stop. They stopped, and all was calm.
25 “Where is your trust?” he asked them. Terrified and amazed, they said to each other, “So who is this? He gives commands to the winds and the water, and they obey him!”
26 They sailed across to the Gerasene region that lies opposite Galilee.
27 When Jesus stepped out of the boat onto the shore, a demon-possessed man from the town came to meet him. For a long time he hadn't worn any clothes or lived in a house. He lived in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus he screamed, fell down at Jesus' feet, and asked in a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Please don't torture me, I beg you!”
29 For Jesus had already commanded the evil spirit to leave the man. It had often seized him, and despite being tied down with chains and shackles, and placed under guard, he would break the chains apart and would be driven by the demon into the desert areas.
30 “What is your name?” Jesus asked him. “Legion,” he replied, for many demons had entered him.
31 They begged Jesus not to order them to go into the Abyss.
32 There was a large herd of pigs feeding on the nearby hillside, and the demons begged him to be allowed to go into the pigs. Jesus gave them permission,
33 so the demons left the man and entered the pigs. The herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned.
34 When the pig-keepers saw what had happened they ran off and spread the news through the town and the countryside.
35 The people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus they found the man freed from the demons. He was sitting there at Jesus' feet, wearing clothes and in his right mind; and they became scared.
36 Those who had seen what happened explained how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
37 Then all the people from the Gerasene region asked Jesus to leave because they were overwhelmed by fear. So he got into the boat and went back.
38 The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away.
39 “Go back home, and tell people all that God has done for you,” Jesus told him. So he went away, telling the whole town all that Jesus had done for him.
40 A crowd of people was there to welcome Jesus when he returned, all eagerly expecting him.
41 One was a man called Jairus, a synagogue leader, who came and fell at Jesus' feet. He pleaded with Jesus to come to his home
42 because his only daughter was dying. She was about twelve years old. While Jesus was on his way there, people were crowding around him.
43 In the crowd was a woman who had suffered with bleeding for twelve years. She had spent all she had on doctors, but none of them had been able to help her.
44 She approached Jesus from behind and touched the hem of his cloak. Immediately the bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. Everybody around denied doing so. “But Master,” said Peter, “there are people crowding around you, and they keep pushing up against you.”
46 “Someone touched me,” Jesus replied. “I know because power went out from me.”
47 When the woman realized she couldn't go unnoticed, she came forward, trembling, and fell down before him. Right in front of everybody she explained the reason why she had touched Jesus, and that she'd been cured immediately.

Luke 8:9-47 in Geneva Bible 1599

9 Then his disciples asked him, demaunding what parable that was.
10 And he sayd, Vnto you it is giuen to know the secrets of ye kingdome of God, but to other in parables, that when they see, they shoulde not see, and when they heare, they should not vnderstand.
11 The parable is this, The seede is the worde of God.
12 And they that are beside the way, are they that heare: afterward commeth the deuill, and taketh away the worde out of their hearts, least they should beleeue, and be saued.
13 But they that are on the stones, are they which when they haue heard, receiue ye word with ioy: but they haue no rootes: which for a while beleeue, but in the time of tentation goe away.
14 And that which fell among thornes, are they which haue heard, and after their departure are choked with cares and with riches, and voluptuous liuing, and bring forth no fruite.
15 But that which fell in good ground, are they which with an honest and good heart heare the worde, and keepe it, and bring forth fruite with patience.
16 No man when he hath lighted a candle, couereth it vnder a vessell, neither putteth it vnder the bed, but setteth it on a candlesticke, that they that enter in, may see the light.
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be euident: neither any thing hid, that shall not be knowen, and come to light.
18 Take heede therefore how ye heare: for whosoeuer hath, to him shall be giuen: and whosoeuer hath not, from him shalbe taken euen that which it seemeth that he hath.
19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come neere to him for the preasse.
20 And it was tolde him by certaine which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, and would see thee.
21 But he answered, and sayd vnto them, My mother and my brethren are these which heare the worde of God, and doe it.
22 And it came to passe on a certaine day, that he went into a ship with his disciples, and he sayd vnto them, Let vs goe ouer vnto the other side of the lake. And they lanched forth.
23 And as they sayled, he fell a sleepe, and there came downe a storme of winde on the lake, and they were filled with water, and were in ieopardie.
24 Then they went to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. And he arose, and rebuked the winde, and the waues of water: and they ceased, and it was calme.
25 Then he sayde vnto them, Where is your fayth? and they feared, and wondered among them selues, saying, Who is this that commandeth both the windes and water, and they obey him!
26 So they sailed vnto the region of the Gadarenes, which is ouer against Galile.
27 And as he went out to land, there met him a certaine man out of the citie, which had deuils long time, and he ware no garment, neither abode in house, but in the graues.
28 And when he sawe Iesus, he cryed out and fell downe before him, and with a loude voyce sayd, What haue I to doe with thee, Iesus the Sonne of God the most High? I beseech thee torment me not.
29 For he commanded ye foule spirit to come out of the man: (for oft times he had caught him: therefore he was bound with chaines, and kept in fetters: but he brake the bands, and was caried of the deuill into wildernesses.)
30 Then Iesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? and he sayd, Legion, because many deuils were entred into him.
31 And they besought him, that he would not commaund them to goe out into the deepe.
32 And there was there by, an hearde of many swine, feeding on an hill: and the deuils besought him, that he would suffer them to enter into them. So he suffered them.
33 Then went the deuils out of the man, and entred into the swine: and the hearde was caried with violence from a steepe downe place into the lake, and was choked.
34 When the heardmen sawe what was done, they fled: and when they were departed, they tolde it in the citie and in the countrey.
35 Then they came out to see what was done, and came to Iesus, and found the man, out of whom the deuils were departed, sitting at the feete of Iesus, clothed, and in his right minde: and they were afrayd.
36 They also which saw it, tolde them by what meanes he that was possessed with the deuill, was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude of the countrey about the Gadarenes, besought him that he would depart from them: for they were taken with a great feare: and he went into the ship, and returned.
38 Then the man, out of whome the deuils were departed, besought him that hee might be with him: but Iesus sent him away, saying,
39 Returne into thine owne house, and shewe what great things God hath done to thee. So hee went his way, and preached throughout all the citie, what great things Iesus had done vnto him.
40 And it came to passe, when Iesus was come againe, that the people receiued him: for they all waited for him.
41 And beholde, there came a man named Iairus, and he was the ruler of the Synagogue, who fell downe at Iesus feete, and besought him that he would come into his house.
42 For he had but a daughter onely, about twelue yeeres of age, and she lay a dying (and as he went, the people thronged him.
43 And a woman hauing an yssue of blood, twelue yeeres long, which had spent all her substance vpon physicians, and could not be healed of any:
44 When she came behind him, she touched the hemme of his garment, and immediatly her yssue of blood stanched.
45 Then Iesus sayd, Who is it that hath touched me? When euery man denied, Peter sayd and they that were with him, Master, the multitude thrust thee, and tread on thee, and sayest thou, Who hath touched me?
46 And Iesus sayde, Some one hath touched me: for I perceiue that vertue is gone out of me.
47 When the woman sawe that she was not hid, she came trembling, and fell downe before him, and tolde him before all the people, for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediatly.

9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

9 And his disciples asked him what this parable meant.
10 And he said, To you it hath been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God; but to others these things are spoken in parables; that while seeing they may not see, and while hearing they may not understand.
11 Now the meaning of the parable is this. The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the way-side are they that hear; then cometh the Devil and taketh away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.
13 Those on the rocky ground are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root; and for a while they believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And those seeds which fell among the thorns, these are they who, when they have heard, go away and are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But the seeds on the good ground, these are they who in an honest and good heart, when they have heard the word, hold it fast, and bear fruit with constancy.
16 And no one having lighted a lamp, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
17 For nothing is secret, that will not be made manifest; nor hidden, that will not be known, and come to light.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear; for whoever hath, to him will be given; and whoever hath not, from him will be taken even what he seemeth to have.
19 And his mother and his brothers came where he was, and could not get to him on account of the crowd.
20 And word was brought to him, Thy mother and thy brothers stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 And he answering said to them, My mother and my brothers are these, who hear the word of God, and do it.
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a boat with his disciples, and said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake; and they put off.
23 But as they were sailing, he fell asleep. And there came down a storm of wind on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we are perishing! And he rose, and rebuked the wind, and the surging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And they were afraid, and wondered, saying one to another, Who then is this, that he commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
26 And they sailed to the country of the Gergesenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he had landed, there met him a certain man out of the city who had demons, and for a long time had worn no clothes, and abode not in a house, but in the tombs.
28 And seeing Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I beseech thee, do not torment me.
29 For he was about to command the unclean spirit to come out of the man; for it had possessed him for a long time, and he had been kept bound and secured with chains and fetters; and bursting the bands, he had been driven by the demon into the wilderness.
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion; because many demons had entered into him.
31 And they besought him not to command them to go away into the abyss.
32 Now there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain; and they besought him to permit them to go into them. And he permitted them.
33 And the demons coming out of the man went into the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, and were drowned.
34 And the herdsmen, seeing what was done, fled, and told the news in the city and in the country.
35 And they went out to see what had been done. And they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus; and they were afraid.
36 And they who had seen it told them how he that was possessed by demons was made well.
37 And the whole multitude in the surrounding country of the Gergesenes besought him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear. And he went on board a boat and returned.
38 And the man out of whom the demons had gone besought him that he might be with him. But he sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thy house, and tell what great things God hath done for thee. And he went and published through the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
40 And it came to pass when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed him; for they were all waiting for him.
41 And lo! there came a man, named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at the feet of Jesus, he besought him to come into his house;
42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. And as he went, the multitudes thronged him.
43 And a woman who had had an issue of blood twelve years, and had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be cured by any one,
44 came up behind and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her issue of blood ceased.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? And when all denied it, Peter and those with him said, Master, the multitudes are thronging thee, and pressing against thee.
46 But Jesus said, Some one touched me; for I perceived that power went out from me.
47 And the woman, seeing that she was discovered, came trembling, and falling down before him declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was cured immediately.

9 His disciples asked Jesus the meaning of this parable.
10 “To you,” he said, “the knowledge of the hidden truths of the kingdom of God has been imparted, but to others in parables only, so that though they have eyes they may not see, and though they have ears, they may not understand.
11 This is the parable — The seed is God's message.
12 By the seed which fell along the path are meant those who hear the message; but then comes the devil and carries away the message from their minds, to prevent their believing it and being saved.
13 By the seed which fell on the rock are meant those who, as soon as they hear the message, welcome it joyfully; but they have no root, and believe it only for a time, and, when the time of temptation comes, they draw back.
14 By that which fell amongst the brambles are meant those who hear the message, but who, as they go on their way, are completely choked by this world's cares and wealth and pleasures, and bring nothing to perfection.
15 But by that in the good ground are meant those who, having heard the message, keep it in the good, rich soil of their hearts, and patiently yield a return.
16 “No one sets light to a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or puts it underneath a couch, but they put it on a lamp-stand, so that anyone who comes in may see the light.
17 Nothing is hidden which will not be brought into the light of day, not ever kept hidden which will not some day become known and come into the light of day.
18 Take care, then, how you listen. For, to all those who have, more will be given; while, from all those who have nothing, even what they seem to have will be taken away.”
19 Presently Jesus' mother and brothers came where he was, but they were not able to join him because of the crowd.
20 So word was brought to him — ‘Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.’
21 His reply, spoken to them all, was, “My mother and my brothers are those who listen to God's teaching and do what it says.”
22 One day about that time, Jesus got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, “Let us go across the lake.”
23 So they put off. While they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep. A squall swept down on the lake, and their boat was filling and they were in danger.
24 So the disciples came and roused him. “Sir, Sir,” they cried, “we are lost!” Jesus rose and rebuked the wind and the rushing waves, and they fell, and a calm followed.
25 “Where is your faith?” he exclaimed. But in great awe and amazement they said to one another, “Who can this be, who commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him?”
26 And they reached the region of the Gerasenes, which is on the opposite side to Galilee;
27 and, on getting ashore, Jesus met a man, who had demons in him, coming out of the town. For a long time this man had worn no clothing, and he had not lived in a house, but in the tombs.
28 Catching sight of Jesus, he shrieked out and threw himself down before him, and in a loud voice exclaimed, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you not to torment me.”
29 For Jesus was commanding the foul spirit to come out of the man. On many occasions it had seized him, and, even when secured with chains and fetters, and watched, he would break through anything that bound him, and be driven by the demon into the Wilds.
30 “What is your name?” Jesus asked. “Legion,” he answered (for many demons had taken possession of him);
31 and the demons begged Jesus not to order them away into the bottomless pit.
32 There was a drove of many pigs close by feeding on the hill-side; and the demons begged Jesus to give them leave to enter into them. Jesus gave them leave.
33 They came out from the man and took possession of the pigs; and the drove rushed down the steep slope into the lake and were drowned.
34 When the men who tended them saw what had happened, they ran away, and carried the news to the town, and to the country around.
35 The people went out to see what had happened, and, when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at Jesus' feet; and they were awe-struck.
36 Those who had seen it told them how the possessed man had been delivered.
37 Then all the people in the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, for they were terrified. Jesus got into a boat and returned.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged Jesus to let him be with him; but Jesus sent him away.
39 “Go back to your home,” he said, “and relate the story of all that God has done for you.” So the man went through the whole town and proclaimed, as he went, all that Jesus had done for him.
40 On his return, Jesus was welcomed by the people; for everyone was looking out for him.
41 And a man named Jairus, who was a synagogue leader, came to Jesus, and threw himself at Jesus' feet, with entreaties that he would come to his house,
42 because his only daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus was going, the people were pressing closely around him.
43 And a woman, who had suffered from hemorrhage for twelve years, and whom no one could cure,
44 came up behind and touched the tassel of his cloak. Instantly the hemorrhage ceased.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked; and, while everyone was denying having done so, Peter exclaimed, “Why, Sir, the people are crowding around you and pressing against you!”
46 “Somebody touched me,” said Jesus; “for I felt that power had gone out from me.”
47 Then the woman, when she saw that she was discovered, came forward trembling, and threw herself down before him; and, in the presence of all the people, she told him her reason for touching him, and that she had been cured instantly.

9 Then his disciples asked him, “What does this parable mean?”
10 He said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God’s Kingdom, but to the rest in parables; that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is ha D'var Elohim · the Word of God·.
12 Those along the road are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.
13 Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root, who believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation.
14 That which fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
15 That in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and produces fruit with patience.
16 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container, or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is hidden, that will not be revealed; nor anything secret, that will not be known and come to light.
18 Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever does not have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”
19 His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd.
20 Some people told him, “Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you.”
21 But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are these who hear ha D'var Elohim · the Word of God·, and do it.”
24 They came to him, and awoke him, saying, “Master, master, we are dying!” He awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it was calm.
25 He said to them, “Where is your trusting faith?” Being afraid they marveled, saying to one another, “Who is this, then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”
26 They arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee District, Circuit.
27 When Yeshua Salvation stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn’t live in a house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Yeshua Salvation, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, “What do I have to do with you, Yeshua Salvation, you Son of the Elyon El Most High God? I beg you, don’t torment me!”
29 For Yeshua Salvation was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bands apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.
30 Yeshua Salvation asked him, “What is your name?” He said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered into him.
31 They begged him that he would not command them to go into the abyss, the bottomless netherworld.
32 Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. He allowed them.
33 The demons came out of the man, and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake, and were drowned.
34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country.
35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Yeshua Salvation, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Yeshua Salvation's feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 Those who saw it told them how he who had been possessed by demons was healed.
37 All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. He entered into the boat, and teshuvah ·completely returned·.
38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Yeshua Salvation sent him away, saying,
39 “Teshuvah ·Completely return· to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you.” He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Yeshua Salvation had done for him.
40 When Yeshua Salvation teshuvah ·completely returned·, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
41 Behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Yeshua Salvation's feet, and begged him to come into his house,
42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes pressed against him.
43 A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, she had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any,
44 came behind him, and touched the tzitzit ·fringes· of his outer cloak, his prayer shawl, and immediately the flow of her blood stopped.
45 Yeshua Salvation said, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter Rock and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
46 But Yeshua Salvation said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.”
47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant.
10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but for others I speak in parables, so that 'seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'
11 Now this is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12 The ones along the path are those who have heard, but then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so they may not believe and be saved.
13 The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But they have no root; they believe for a while, and in a time of testing they fall away.
14 The seeds that fell among the thorns are people who hear the word, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature.
15 But the seed that fell on the good soil, these are the ones who, hearing the word with an honest and good heart, hold it securely and bear fruit with patient endurance.
16 No one lights a lamp and covers it with a bowl or puts it under a bed. Rather, he puts it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters may see the light.
17 For nothing is hidden that will not be made known, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come into the light.
18 So listen carefully, for to the one who has, more will be given to him, but the one who does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
19 Then his mother and brothers came to him, but they could not get near him because of the crowd.
20 He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 But Jesus answered and said to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
22 Now one day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” They set sail.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep. A terrible windstorm came down on the lake, and their boat was filling with water, and they were in danger.
24 Then Jesus' disciples came over to him and woke him up, saying, “Master! Master! We are about to die!” He awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 Then he said to them, “Where is your faith?” and they were afraid. While they were afraid they were also amazed, and they asked one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.
27 When Jesus stepped on the land, he was met by a certain man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but among the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him and he said with a loud voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.”
29 For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and he would be driven by the demon into the wilderness.
30 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” and he said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered into him.
31 They kept begging him not to send them into the abyss.
32 Now a large herd of pigs was there feeding on the hillside. The demons begged him to let them go into them, and he gave them permission.
33 So the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and told about it in the city and countryside.
35 So the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out. He was sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 Then those who had seen it told them how the man who had been possessed by demons had been healed.
37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to depart from them, for they were overwhelmed with great fear. So he got into the boat so they could start back.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged him to let him go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your home and give a full account of what God has done for you.” The man went on his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what Jesus had done for him.
40 Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.
41 Behold, a man named Jairus, who was one of the leaders of the synagogue, came and fell down at Jesus' feet, and he begged him to come to his house,
42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve years of age, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds of people pressed together around him.
43 Now a woman was there who had been bleeding for twelve years and had spent all her money , and could not be healed by anyone.
44 She came behind Jesus and touched the edge of his coat, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 Jesus said, “Who was it who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds of people are all around you and they are pressing in against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, for I know that power has gone out from me.”
47 When the woman saw that she could not escape notice, she came trembling and fell down before him. In the presence of all the people she declared why she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed.

9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What doth this parable mean?
10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the way side, are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they , who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, who, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it , and bring forth fruit with patience.
16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they who enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known, and come abroad.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whoever hath, to him shall be given; and whoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come near to him for the crowd.
20 And it was told to him by certain , who said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 And he answered and said to them, My mother and my brethren are these who hear the word of God, and do it.
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a boat with his disciples: and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they lanched forth.
23 But as they sailed, he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water , and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind, and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid, wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, who had demons a long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee torment me not.
29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For often it had caught him, and he was kept bound with chains, and in fetters: and he broke the bands, and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many demons had entered into him.
31 And they besought him, that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
32 And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33 Then the demons went out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man out of whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
36 They also who saw it , told them by what means he that was possessed by the demons was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes, besought him to depart from them: for they were taken with great fear. And he went into the boat, and returned.
38 Now the man out of whom the demons had departed, besought him that he might be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thy own house, and show how great things God hath done to thee. And he went away and published throughout the whole city, how great things Jesus had done to him.
40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus had returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, and besought him that he would come into his house:
42 For he had one daughter only, about twelve years of age, and she lay dying. (But as he was going, the people thronged him.
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, who had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed by any,
44 Came behind him , and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter, and they that were with him, said, Master, the multitude throng thee, and press thee , and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue hath gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared to him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Yeshua sent him away, saying,
39 “Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you.” He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Yeshua had done for him.
40 When Yeshua returned, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
41 Behold, a man named Jairus came. He was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Yeshua’s feet and begged him to come into his house,
42 for he had an only born daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes pressed against him.
43 A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians and could not be healed by any,
44 came behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak. Immediately the flow of her blood stopped.
45 Yeshua said, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
46 But Yeshua said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.”
47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

9 But his disciples asked him, what this parable was.
10 And he said to them, To you it is granted to know the private or the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to other men in parables, that they seeing see not, and they hearing understand not.
11 And this is the parable. The seed is God’s word;
12 and they that be beside the way, be these that hear; and afterward the fiend cometh, and taketh away the word from their heart, lest they believing be made safe.
13 But they that fell on a stone, be these that when they have heard, receive the word with joy. And these have no roots; for at a time they believe, and in time of temptation they go away.
14 But that that fell among thorns, be these that heard, and of busy-nesses, and riches, and lusts of life they go forth, and be strangled, and bring forth no fruit.
15 But that that fell into good earth, be these that, in a good heart, and best, hear the word, and hold, and bring forth fruit in patience.
16 No man lighteth a lantern, and covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed, but on a candlestick, that men that enter see light.
17 For there is no privy thing, which shall not be opened; neither hid thing, which shall not be known, and come into open.
18 Therefore see ye, how ye hear; for it shall be given to him that hath, and whoever hath not, also that that he weeneth or he guesseth that he have, shall be taken away from him.
19 And his mother and brethren came to him; and they might not come to him for the people.
20 And it was told to him, Thy mother and thy brethren stand withoutforth, willing to see thee.
21 And he answered, and said to them, My mother and my brethren be these, that hear the word of God, and do it.
22 And it was done in one of the days, he went up into a boat, and his disciples. And he said to them, Pass we over the sea. And they went up.
23 And while they rowed, he slept. And a tempest of wind came down into the water, and they were driven hither and thither with waves, and were in peril.
24 And they came nigh, and raised him, and said, Commander, we perish. And he rose up, and blamed the wind, and the tempest of the water; and it ceased, and peaceability was made.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? Which dreading wondered, and said together, Who, guessest thou, is this? for he commandeth to the winds and to the sea, and they obey to him.
26 And they rowed to the country of Gadarenes, that is against Galilee.
27 And when he went out to the land, a man ran to him, that had a devil now long time, and he was not clothed with cloth, neither dwelled in house, but in sepulchres.
28 This, when he saw Jesus, fell down before him, and he crying with a great voice said, What to me and to thee, Jesus, the Son of the Highest God? I beseech thee, that thou torment me not.
29 For he commanded the unclean spirit, that he should go out from the man. For he took him oft times, and he was bound with chains, and kept in stocks, and when the bonds were broken, he was led of the devil into desert.
30 And Jesus asked him, and said, What name is to thee? And he said, A legion; for many devils were or had entered into him.
31 And they prayed him, that he should not command them, that they should go into hell or into the deep-ness.
32 And there was a flock of many swine or many hogs pasturing in an hill, and they prayed him, that he should suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33 And so the devils went out from the man, and entered into the swine or the hogs; and with a rush the flock went headlong into the pool or into the lake of water, and was drenched or drowned.
34 And when the herders saw this thing done, they fled, and told into the city, and into the towns.
35 And they went out to see that thing that was done. And they came to Jesus, and they found the man sitting clothed, from whom the devils went out, and in whole mind at his feet; and they dreaded.
36 And they that saw told to them, how he was made whole of the legion.
37 And all the multitude of the country of Gadarenes prayed him, that he should go from them, for they were held with great dread. And he went up into a boat, and turned again.
38 And the man of whom the devils were gone out or of whom the fiends went out, prayed him, that he should be with him. Soothly Jesus let him go, and said,
39 Go again into thine house, and tell how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through all the city, and preached, how great things Jesus had done to him.
40 And it was done, when Jesus was gone again or had gone again, the people received him; for all were abiding him.
41 And lo! a man, to whom the name was Jairus, and he was a prince of a synagogue; and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, and prayed him, that he should enter into his house,
42 for he had but one daughter or an only daughter, almost of twelve years old, and she was dead. And it befell, the while he went, he was thronged of the people.
43 And a woman that had a flux of blood twelve years, and had spended all her chattel or all her substance in leeches, and might not be cured of any,
44 and she came nigh behind, and touched the hem of his cloth, and anon the flux of her blood ceased.
45 And Jesus said, Who is it that touched me? And when all men denied, Peter said, and they that were with him, Commander, the people thrust or throng and dis-ease thee, and thou sayest, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Some man hath touched me, for I have known that virtue went out of me.
47 And the woman seeing, that it was not hid from him, came trembling, and fell down at his feet, and for what cause she had touched him she showed before all the people, and how anon she was healed.

9 But his disciples asked him, what this parable was.
10 And he said to them, To you it is granted to know the private or the mystery of the kingdom of God (or To you it is granted to know the secret of the Kingdom of God); but to other men (I speak) in parables, (so) that they seeing see not, and they hearing understand not.
11 And this is the parable. The seed is God’s word;
12 and they that be beside the way, be these that hear; and afterward the fiend cometh (or and afterward the Devil cometh), and taketh away the word from their heart(s), lest they believing be made safe (or lest they believe and be saved).
13 But they that fell on a stone, be these that when they have heard, receive the word with joy. And these have no roots; for at a time they believe, and in time of temptation they go away (or but in the time of testing they go away).
14 But that that fell among thorns, be these that heard, and (because) of (the) busynesses (or the concerns), and (the) riches, and (the) lusts of (this) life they go forth, and be strangled, and bring forth no fruit.
15 But that that fell into good earth, be these that, in a good heart, and best, (or be those who, with a good and true heart), hear the word, and hold (it), and bring forth fruit in patience.
16 No man lighteth a lantern, and covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed, (no) but on a candlestick, (so) that men that enter (can) see light.
17 For there is no privy thing, which shall not be opened; neither hid thing, which shall not be known, and come into (the) open. (For there is nothing private, or secret, which shall not be made open; nor any hidden thing, which shall not be made known, and brought out into the open.)
18 Therefore see ye, how ye hear; for it shall be given to him that hath, and whoever hath not, also that that he weeneth, or that he guesseth, (or that he thinketh), that he have, shall be taken away from him.
19 And his mother and brethren came to him; and they might not come to him for the people.
20 And it was told to him, Thy mother and thy brethren stand withoutforth, willing to see thee. (And he was told, Thy mother and thy brothers stand outside, desiring to see thee.)
21 And he answered, and said to them, My mother and my brethren be these, that hear the word of God, and do it.
22 And it was done in (or on) one of the days, he went up into a boat, and his disciples. And he said to them, Pass we over the sea (or Let us go over to the other side of the lake). And (so) they went up.
23 And while they rowed, he slept. And a tempest of wind came down into the water, and they were driven hither and thither with waves, and were in peril.
24 And they came nigh, and raised him, and said, Commander (or Master), we perish. And he rose up, and blamed the wind (or and rebuked the wind), and the tempest of the water; and it ceased, and peaceability was made.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? Which dreading wondered, and said together, (or Who with fear and wonder, said to each other), Who, guessest thou, is this? for he commandeth to the winds and to the sea, and they obey to him.
26 And they rowed to the country of Gadarenes, that is against Galilee (or that is opposite Galilee).
27 And when he went out to the land, a man ran to him, that had a devil now (a) long time, and he was not clothed with cloth, neither dwelled in (a) house, but in sepulchres. (And when he got onto the land, a man ran over to him, who for a long time now had a demon, and he was not clothed with a cloak, nor lived in a house, but dwelt among the tombs.)
28 This (man), when he saw Jesus, fell down before him, and he crying with a great voice said, (or and he cried with a loud voice, and said), What to me and to thee, Jesus, the Son of the Highest God? I beseech thee, that thou torment me not.
29 For he (had) commanded the unclean spirit, that he should go out from the man. For he took him oft times, and he was bound with chains, and kept in stocks, and when the bonds were broken, he was led of the devil into desert (or he was led by the demon into the desert).
30 And Jesus asked him, and said, What name is to thee? And he said, A legion; for many devils were entered into him, or for many devils had entered into him, (or for there were many demons in him).
31 And they prayed him (or And they beseeched him), that he should not command them, that they should go into hell or that they should go into the deepness.
32 And there was a flock of many swine or of many hogs pasturing in an hill, and they prayed him, that he should suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. (And there was a herd of many pigs at pasture on a hill, and they beseeched him, that he would allow them to enter into them. And he allowed them.)
33 And so the devils went out from the man, and entered into the swine or into the hogs; and with a rush the flock went headlong into the pool or into the lake of water, and was drenched. (And so the demons went out of the man, and entered into the pigs; and with a rush the herd went headlong into the lake, and were drowned.)
34 And when the herders saw this thing done, they fled, and told into the city, and into the towns.
35 And they went out to see that thing that was done. And they came to Jesus, and they found the man sitting clothed, from whom the devils went out, and in whole mind at his feet; and they dreaded (or and they had great fear).
36 And they that saw told to them, how he was made whole of the legion. (And they who saw it all, told them how he was healed from the legion of devils and demons.)
37 And all the multitude of the country of Gadarenes prayed him, that he should go (away) from them, for they were held with great dread. And he went up into a boat, and turned again (to the other side). (And all the multitude from the countryside of Gadarenes beseeched him, that he would go away from them, for they were held with great fear. And so he went up into the boat, and returned to the other side.)
38 And the man of whom the devils were gone out, or And the man of whom the fiends went out, prayed him, that he should be with him. Soothly Jesus left him (or let him go), and said, (And the man from whom the demons went out, beseeched him, that he could be with him. But Jesus sent him away, and said,)
39 Go again into thine house, and tell how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through all the city, and preached, how great things Jesus had done to him. (Return to thine house, and to thy people, and tell them what great things God hath done for thee. And so he went through all the city, and preached, what great things Jesus had done for him.)
40 And it was done, when Jesus was gone (home) again or when Jesus had gone (home) again, the people received him; for all were abiding him (or for all of them were waiting for him).
41 And lo! a man, to whom the name was Jairus, and he was a prince of a synagogue (or and he was a leader of a synagogue); and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, and prayed him (or beseeched him), that he should enter into his house,
42 for he had but one daughter or an only daughter, almost of twelve years old, and she was dead. And it befell, the while he went, he was thronged of the people. (for he had an only daughter, almost twelve years old, and she was dying. And it befell, that while he went, he was thronged by the people.)
43 And a woman that had a flux of blood (for) twelve years, and had spended all her chattel or all her substance in leeches, and might not be cured of any, (And there was a woman who had a flowing, or an issue, of blood for twelve years, and had spent all of her resources on physicians, and could not be cured by any of them,)
44 and she came nigh behind, and touched the hem of his cloth, and anon the flux of her blood ceased. (and she came up close behind him, and touched the hem of his cloak, and at once the flowing, or the issue, of her blood ceased.)
45 And Jesus said, Who is it that touched me? And when all men denied (it), Peter said, and they that were with him, Commander (or Master), the people thrust or throng and dis-ease thee, and thou sayest, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Some man hath touched me, for I have known that virtue went out of me. (And Jesus said, Someone hath touched me, for I know that power hath gone out of me.)
47 And the woman seeing, that it was not hid from him, came trembling, and fell down at his feet, and for what cause she had touched him she showed before all the people, and how anon she was healed (or and how at once she was healed).

9 But hise disciplis axiden him, what this parable was.
10 And he seide to hem, To you it is grauntid to knowe the pryuete of the kyngdom of God; but to othir men in parablis, that thei seynge se not, and thei herynge vndurstonde not.
11 And this is the parable.
12 The seed is Goddis word; and thei that ben bisidis the weie, ben these that heren; and aftirward the feend cometh, and takith awei the word fro her herte, lest thei bileuynge be maad saaf.
13 But thei that fel on a stoon, ben these that whanne thei han herd, resseyuen the word with ioye. And these han not rootis; for at a tyme thei bileuen, and in tyme of temptacioun thei goen awei.
14 But that that fel among thornes, ben these that herden, and of bisynessis, and ritchessis, and lustis of lijf thei gon forth, and ben stranglid, and bryngen forth no fruyt.
15 But that that fel in to good erthe, ben these that, in a good herte, and best heren the word, and holdun, and brengen forth fruyt in pacience.
16 No man lityneth a lanterne, and hilith it with a vessel, or puttith it vndur a bed, but on a candilstike, that men that entren seen liyt.
17 For ther is no priuei thing, which schal not be openyd, nether hid thing, which schal not be knowun, and come in to open.
18 Therfor se ye, hou ye heren; for it schal be youun to hym that hath, and who euer hath not, also that that he weneth that he haue, schal be takun awei fro hym.
19 And his modir and britheren camen to hym; and thei myyten not come to hym for the puple.
20 And it was teeld to hym, Thi modir and thi britheren stonden with outforth, willynge to se thee.
21 And he answeride, and seide to hem, My modir and my britheren ben these, that heren the word of God, and doon it.
22 And it was don in oon of daies, he wente vp in to a boot, and hise disciplis. And he seide to hem, Passe we ouer the see. And thei wenten vp.
23 And while thei rowiden, he slepte. And a tempest of wynde cam doun in to the watir, and thei weren dryuun hidur and thidur with wawis, and weren in perel.
24 And thei camen nyy, and reisiden hym, and seiden, Comaundoure, we perischen. And he roos, and blamyde the wynde, and the tempest of the watir; and it ceesside, and pesibilte was maad.
25 And he seide to hem, Where is youre feith? Which dredynge wondriden, and seiden togidir, Who, gessist thou, is this? for he comaundith to wyndis and to the see, and thei obeien to hym.
26 And thei rowiden to the cuntree of Gerasenus, that is ayens Galilee.
27 And whanne he wente out to the loond, a man ran to hym, that hadde a deuel long tyme, and he was not clothid with cloth, nether dwellide in hous, but in sepulcris.
28 This, whanne he saiy Jhesu, fel doun bifor hym, and he criynge with a greet vois seide, What to me and to thee, Jhesu, the sone of the hiyest God? Y biseche thee, that thou turmente `not me.
29 For he comaundide the vncleene spirit, that he schulde go out fro the man. For he took hym ofte tymes, and he was boundun with cheynes, and kept in stockis, and, whanne the boondis weren brokun, he was lad of deuelis in to desert.
30 And Jhesus axide hym, and seide, What name is to thee? And he seide, A legioun ; for many deuelis weren entrid in to hym.
31 And thei preyden hym, that he schulde not comaunde hem, that thei schulden go in to helle.
32 And there was a flok of many swyne lesewynge in an hil, and thei preieden hym, that he schulde suffre hem to entre in to hem. And he suffride hem.
33 And so the deuelis wenten out fro the man, and entriden in to the swyne; and with a birre the flok wente heedlyng in to the pool, and was drenchid.
34 And whanne the hirdis sayn this thing don, thei flowen, and tolden in to the cite, and in to the townes.
35 And thei yeden out to se that thing that was don. And thei camen to Jhesu, and thei founden the man sittynge clothid, fro whom the deuelis wenten out, and in hool mynde at hise feet; and thei dredden.
36 And thei that sayn tolden to hem, hou he was maad hool of the legioun.
37 And al the multitude of the cuntre of Gerasenus preiede hym, that he schulde go fro hem, for thei werun holdun with greet drede. He wente vp in to a boot, and turnede ayen.
38 And the man of whom the deuelis weren gon out, preide hym, that he schulde be with hym. Jhesus lefte hym,
39 and seide, Go ayen in to thin hous, and telle hou grete thingis God hath don to thee. And he wente thorow al the cite, and prechide, hou grete thingis Jhesus hadde don to hym.
40 And it was don, whanne Jhesus was gon ayen, the puple resseyuede hym; for alle weren abidynge hym.
41 And lo! a man, to whom the name was Jayrus, and he was prynce of a synagoge; and he fel doun at the feet of Jhesu, and preiede hym, that he schulde entre in to his hous,

45 And Jhesus seide, Who is that touchide me? And whanne alle men denyeden, Petre seide, and thei that weren with hym, Comaundour, the puple thristen, and disesen thee, and thou seist, Who touchide me?
46 And Jhesus seide, Summan hath touchid me, for that vertu yede out of me.
47 And the womman seynge, that it was not hid fro hym, cam tremblynge, and fel doun at hise feet, and for what cause sche hadde touchid hym sche schewide bifor al the puple, and hou anoon sche was helid.

Luke 8:9-47 in Young's Literal Translation

9 And his disciples were questioning him, saying, 'What may this simile be?'
10 And he said, 'To you it hath been given to know the secrets of the reign of God, and to the rest in similes; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
11 'And this is the simile: The seed is the word of God,
12 and those beside the way are those hearing, then cometh the Devil, and taketh up the word from their heart, lest having believed, they may be saved.
13 'And those upon the rock: They who, when they may hear, with joy do receive the word, and these have no root, who for a time believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 'And that which fell to the thorns: These are they who have heard, and going forth, through anxieties, and riches, and pleasures of life, are choked, and bear not to completion.
15 'And that in the good ground: These are they, who in an upright and good heart, having heard the word, do retain it, and bear fruit in continuance.
16 'And no one having lighted a lamp doth cover it with a vessel, or under a couch doth put it; but upon a lamp-stand he doth put it, that those coming in may see the light,
17 for nothing is secret, that shall not become manifest, nor hid, that shall not be known, and become manifest.
18 'See, therefore, how ye hear, for whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever may not have, also what he seemeth to have, shall be taken from him.'
19 And there came unto him his mother and brethren, and they were not able to get to him because of the multitude,
20 and it was told him, saying, 'Thy mother and thy brethren do stand without, wishing to see thee;'
21 and he answering said unto them, 'My mother and my brethren! they are those who the word of God are hearing, and doing.'
22 And it came to pass, on one of the days, that he himself went into a boat with his disciples, and he said unto them, 'We may go over to the other side of the lake;' and they set forth,
23 and as they are sailing he fell deeply asleep, and there came down a storm of wind to the lake, and they were filling, and were in peril.
24 And having come near, they awoke him, saying, 'Master, master, we perish;' and he, having arisen, rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there came a calm,
25 and he said to them, 'Where is your faith?' and they being afraid did wonder, saying unto one another, 'Who, then, is this, that even the winds he doth command, and the water, and they obey him?'
26 And they sailed down to the region of the Gadarenes, that is over-against Galilee,
27 and he having gone forth upon the land, there met him a certain man, out of the city, who had demons for a long time, and with a garment was not clothed, and in a house was not abiding, but in the tombs,
28 and having seen Jesus, and having cried out, he fell before him, and with a loud voice, said, 'What — to me and to thee, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I beseech thee, mayest thou not afflict me!'
29 For he commanded the unclean spirit to come forth from the man, for many times it had caught him, and he was being bound with chains and fetters — guarded, and breaking asunder the bonds he was driven by the demons to the deserts.
30 And Jesus questioned him, saying, 'What is thy name?' and he said, 'Legion,' (because many demons were entered into him,)
31 and he was calling on him, that he may not command them to go away to the abyss,
32 and there was there a herd of many swine feeding in the mountain, and they were calling on him, that he might suffer them to enter into these, and he suffered them,
33 and the demons having gone forth from the man, did enter into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep to the lake, and were choked.
34 And those feeding them, having seen what was come to pass, fled, and having gone, told it to the city, and to the fields;
35 and they came forth to see what was come to pass, and they came unto Jesus, and found the man sitting, out of whom the demons had gone forth, clothed, and right-minded, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid;
36 and those also having seen it, told them how the demoniac was saved.
37 And the whole multitude of the region of the Gadarenes round about asked him to go away from them, because with great fear they were pressed, and he having entered into the boat, did turn back.
38 And the man from whom the demons had gone forth was beseeching of him to be with him, and Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 'Turn back to thy house, and tell how great things God did to thee;' and he went away through all the city proclaiming how great things Jesus did to him.
40 And it came to pass, in the turning back of Jesus, the multitude received him, for they were all looking for him,
41 and lo, there came a man, whose name is Jairus, and he was a chief of the synagogue, and having fallen at the feet of Jesus, was calling on him to come to his house;
42 because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, and she was dying. And in his going away, the multitudes were thronging him,
43 and a woman, having an issue of blood for twelve years, who, having spent on physicians all her living, was not able to be healed by any,
44 having come near behind, touched the fringe of his garment, and presently the issue of her blood stood.
45 And Jesus said, 'Who is it that touched me?' and all denying, Peter and those with him said, 'Master, the multitudes press thee, and throng thee, and thou dost say, Who is it that touched me!'
46 And Jesus said, 'Some one did touch me, for I knew power having gone forth from me.'
47 And the woman, having seen that she was not hid, trembling, came, and having fallen before him, for what cause she touched him declared to him before all the people, and how she was healed presently;
