¹⁰ And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?

¹¹ And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.

¹² And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what must we do?

¹³ And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you.

¹⁴ And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse any one wrongfully; and be content with your wages.

¹⁵ And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ;

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

¹⁷ whose fan is in his hand, thoroughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

¹⁷ Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

¹⁰ Then various ones in the crowd asked John, “What shall we (exc) do to escape God punishing us (OR), to show that we have repented?”

¹¹ He answered them, “If any of you has two shirts, you should give one of them to someone who has no shirt. If any of you has plenty of food, you should give some to those who have no food.”

¹² Some tax collectors came and asked to be baptized ( asked him to baptize them}. They asked him, “Teacher, what shall we (exc) do to please God?”

¹³ He said to them, “Do not take from the people any more money than the Roman government tells you to take!”

¹⁴ Some soldiers asked him, “What about us? What should we (exc) do to please God?” He said to them, “Do not say to anyone, ‘ If you(sg) do not give me some money, I will hurt you,’ and do not take people to court and falsely accuse them of doing something wrong! And be content with your wages.”

¹⁵ People were expecting that the Messiah would come soon. Because of that, many of them wondered about John. Some of them asked him if he was the Messiah.

¹⁶ John replied to them all, “No, I am not. I used only water when I baptized you. But the Messiah will soon come! He is far greater than I am. He is so great that I am not worthy to be like his slave and untie his sandals MET like a slave would do! He will put his Holy Spirit within MTY you to truly change your lives, and he will judge others of you and punish you in the fire MET in hell.

¹⁷ He is like a man MET who wants to clear away the grain on the ground where it has been threshed {they have threshed it}. That man uses a huge fork to throw the grain into the air to separate the wheat from the chaff MET, and then he cleans up the threshing area. Similarly, God will separate righteous people from the evil people, like a man who gathers the wheat into his storage area, and then he will burn those who are like chaff with a fire ◄that will never be put out/that will burn forever►.”

¹⁰ The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”

¹⁰ And the people put questions to him, saying, What have we to do?

¹¹ And he made answer and said to them, He who has two coats, let him give to him who has not even one; and he who has food, let him do the same.

¹² Then tax-farmers came to him for baptism and said to him, Master, what have we to do?

¹³ And he said to them, Do not make an attempt to get more money than the right amount.

¹⁴ And men of the army put questions to him, saying, And what have we to do? And he said to them, Do no violent acts to any man, and do not take anything without right, and let your payment be enough for you.

¹⁵ And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not,

¹⁶ John made answer, saying to them all, Truly, I give you baptism with water, but one is coming who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo: he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit, and with fire:

¹⁷ In whose hand is the instrument with which he will make clean his grain; he will put the good grain in his store, but the waste will be burned in the fire which will never be put out.

¹⁰ And the crowds asked him saying, What should we do then?

¹¹ And he answering says to them, He that has two body-coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.

¹² And tax-gatherers came also to be baptised, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?

¹³ And he said to them, Take no more money than what is appointed to you.

¹⁴ And persons engaged in military service also asked him saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Oppress no one, nor accuse falsely, and be satisfied with your pay.

¹⁵ But as the people were in expectation, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John whether he might be the Christ,

¹⁶ John answered all, saying, I indeed baptise you with water, but the mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to unloose; he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire;

¹⁷ whose winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying: What then shall we do?

¹¹ And he answering, said to them: He that hath two coats, let him give to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do in like manner.

¹² And the publicans also came to be baptized, and said to him: Master, what shall we do?

¹³ But he said to them: Do nothing more than that which is appointed you.

¹⁴ And the soldiers also asked him, saying: And what shall we do? And he said to them: Do violence to no man; neither calumniate any man; and be content with your pay.

¹⁵ And as the people were of opinion, and all were thinking in their hearts of John, that perhaps he might be the Christ;

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto all: I indeed baptize you with water; but there shall come one mightier that I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to loose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

¹⁷ Whose fan is in his hand, and he will purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.

¹⁰ So the people were asking him, saying, “What shall we do then?”

¹¹ He answered and said to them, “He who has two shirts, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”

¹² Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”

¹³ And he said to them, “Collect nothing more than the amount which has been commanded to you.”

¹⁴ Likewise the soldiers also were asking him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages.”

¹⁵ Now while the people waited, and all considered in their hearts about John, whether he might be the Christ,

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire;

¹⁷ whose winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn up with unquenchable fire.”

¹⁰ So the people started asking him, “What then must we do?”

¹¹ In answer he said to them, “He who has two coats, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food should do likewise.”

¹² Well even tax collectors came to be baptized by him and said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”

¹³ So He said to them, “Don't charge more than what was determined to you.”

¹⁴ So the soldiers started asking him too: “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Don't extort or harass anyone, and be content with your wages.”

¹⁵ Now as the people were expectant and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether he just might be the Messiah,

¹⁶ John anticipated them all saying: “I indeed am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal straps I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire;

¹⁷ whose winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor and gather the wheat into His barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

¹⁰ “So what should we do?” the crowds asked him.

¹¹ “If you have two coats, then share with someone who doesn't have one. If you have food, then share with those who don't,” he told them.

¹² Some tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher, what should we do?” they also asked.

¹³ “Don't collect any more tax than you're meant to,” he replied.

¹⁴ “What about us?” some soldiers asked. “What should we do?” “Don't demand money with threats of violence. Don't make accusations that are untrue. Be satisfied with your wages,” he replied.

¹⁵ The people were waiting expectantly, and wondered whether John himself might be the Messiah.

¹⁶ John replied and explained to everybody, “Yes, I am baptizing you in water. But the one who is coming is more important than me, and I'm not worthy to undo his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

¹⁷ His winnowing fork is in his hand and he's ready to separate the wheat from the chaff on his threshing floor. He'll gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that can't be extinguished.”

¹⁰ Then the people asked him, saying, What shall we doe then?

¹¹ And he answered, and said vnto them, He that hath two coates, let him part with him that hath none: and hee that hath meate, let him doe likewise.

¹² Then came there Publicanes also to bee baptized, and saide vnto him, Master, what shall we doe?

¹³ And hee saide vnto them, Require no more then that which is appointed vnto you.

¹⁴ The souldiers likewise demaunded of him, saying, And what shall we doe? And he saide vnto them, Doe violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages.

¹⁵ As the people waited, and all men mused in their heartes of Iohn, if he were not that Christ,

¹⁶ Iohn answered, and saide to them all, In deede I baptize you with water, but one stronger then I, commeth, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to vnloose: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.

¹⁷ Whose fanne is in his hande, and hee will make cleane his floore, and will gather the wheate into his garner, but the chaffe will hee burne vp with fire that neuer shalbe quenched.

¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

¹⁰ “What are we to do then?” the people asked.

¹¹ “Let anyone who has two coats,” answered John, “share with the person who has none; and anyone who has food do the same.”

¹⁴ And when some soldiers on active service asked “And we — what are we to do?” he said, “Never use violence, or exact anything by false accusation; and be content with your pay.”

¹⁵ Then, while the people were in suspense, and were all debating with themselves whether John could be the Christ,

¹⁶ John, addressing them all, said, “I, indeed, baptise you with water; but there is coming one more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to unfasten his sandals. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

¹⁷ His winnowing-fan is in his hand so that he may clear his threshing-floor, and store the grain in his barn, but the chaff he will burn with a fire that cannot be put out.”

¹⁰ “What are we to do then?” the people asked.

¹¹ “Let anyone who has two coats,” answered John, “share with the person who has none; and anyone who has food do the same.”

¹⁶ John Yah is gracious answered them all, “I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in Ruach haKodesh Spirit of the Holiness and fire,

¹⁷ whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

¹⁰ And the people axed him sayinge: What shall we do then?

¹¹ He answered and sayde vnto them: He that hath two coottes let him parte with him that hath none: and he that hath meate let him do lykewyse.

¹² Then came ther Publicans to be baptised and sayde vnto him: Master what shall we do?

¹³ And he sayde vnto the: requyre no more then that which ys appoynted vnto you.

¹⁴ The soudyoures lyke wyse demaunded of hym sayinge: and what shall we do? And he sayde to them: Do violence to noo man: nether trouble eny man wrongfully: but be content with youre wages.

¹⁵ As the people were in a doute and all men disputed in their hertes of Iohn whether he were very Christ:

¹⁶ Ihon answered and sayde to them all: I baptyse you with water but a stronger then I cometh after me whose shue latchet I am not worthy to vnlouse: he will baptise you with the holy goost and with fyre:

¹⁷ which hath his fanne in his hond and will pourge his floore and will gader the corne into his barne: but the chaffe wyll he bourne with fyre that never shalbe quenched.

¹⁰ Then the crowds kept asking him, saying, “What then are we to do?”

¹¹ He answered and said to them, “If someone has two tunics, he should share it with a person who has none, and the one having food should do the same.”

¹² Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”

¹³ He said to them, “Do not collect more money than you have been ordered to collect.”

¹⁴ Some soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, and do not accuse anyone falsely. Be content with your wages.”

¹⁵ Now as the people were eagerly expecting the Christ to come, everyone was wondering in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ.

¹⁶ John answered by saying to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water, but someone is coming who is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy even to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

¹⁷ His winnowing fork is in his hand to thoroughly clear off his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his storehouse. But he will burn up the chaff with fire that can never be put out.”

¹³ He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”

¹⁴ Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”

¹⁵ As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning Yochanan, whether perhaps he was the Messiah,

¹⁶ Yochanan answered them all, “I indeed immerse you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire.

¹⁷ His winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

¹⁰ The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”

¹² Tax collectors also came to be immersed, and they said to him, “Rabbi, what must we do?”

¹³ He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”

¹⁶ John answered, and said to all men, I baptize you in water; but a stronger (One) than I shall come after me, of whom I am not worthy to unbind the lace or the thong of his shoes; he shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost and fire (or he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire).

¹⁷ Whose winnowing tool, or fan, is in his hand, and he shall purge his floor of corn, or and he shall purge his cornfloor, (or and he shall purge his floor of grain, or his threshing floor), and shall gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he shall burn with fire unquenchable.

¹⁰ And the puple axide hym, and seiden, What thanne schulen we do?

¹¹ He answeride, and seide to hem, He that hath twei cootis, yyue to hym that hath noon; and he that hath metis, do in lijk maner.

¹² And pupplicans camen to be baptisid; and thei seiden to hym, Maister, what schulen we do?

¹³ And he seide to hem, Do ye no thing more, than that that is ordeyned to you.

¹⁴ And knyytis axiden hym, and seiden, What schulen also we do? And he seide to hem, Smyte ye wrongfuli no man, nethir make ye fals chalenge, and be ye apayed with youre sowdis.

¹⁶ Joon answeride, and seide to alle men, Y baptize you in watir; but a stronger than Y schal come aftir me, of whom Y am not worthi to vnbynde the lace of his schoon; he schal baptize you in the Hooli Goost and fier.

¹⁷ Whos `wynewyng tool in his hond, and he schal purge his floor of corn, and schal gadere the whete in to his berne; but the chaffis he schal brenne with fier vnquenchable.

¹⁰ And the multitudes were questioning him, saying, 'What, then, shall we do?'

¹¹ and he answering saith to them, 'He having two coats — let him impart to him having none, and he having victuals — in like manner let him do.'

¹² And there came also tax-gatherers to be baptised, and they said unto him, 'Teacher, what shall we do?'

¹³ and he said unto them, 'Exact no more than that directed you.'

¹⁴ And questioning him also were those warring, saying, 'And we, what shall we do?' and he said unto them, 'Do violence to no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.'

¹⁵ And the people are looking forward, and all are reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether or not he may be the Christ;

¹⁶ John answered, saying to all, 'I indeed with water do baptise you, but he cometh who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the latchet of his sandals — he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire;

¹⁷ whose winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather the wheat to his storehouse, and the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.'
