³ And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:

⁴ for all these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts; but she of her want did cast in all the living that she had.

⁵ And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and offerings, he said,

⁶ As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

⁷ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, when therefore shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are about to come to pass?

⁸ And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them.

⁹ And when ye shall hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified: for these things must needs come to pass first; but the end is not immediately.

¹⁰ Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;

¹¹ and there shall be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there shall be terrors and great signs from heaven.

¹² But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake.

¹³ It shall turn out unto you for a testimony.

¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer:

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.

¹⁶ But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

¹⁸ And not a hair of your head shall perish.

¹⁹ In your patience ye shall win your souls.

²⁰ But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand.

²¹ Then let them that are in Judæa flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein.

²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

²³ Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

²⁵ And there shall be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the billows;

²⁶ men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

²⁷ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

⁷ And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

⁸ And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

⁹ But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

¹⁰ Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

¹¹ And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

¹² But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.

¹³ And it shall turn to you for a testimony.

¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

¹⁶ And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

¹⁸ But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

¹⁹ In your patience possess ye your souls.

²⁶ Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

²⁷ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

³ He said to his disciples, “The truth is that these rich people have a lot of money, but they gave only a small part of it. But this woman, who is very poor, has put in all the money that she had to pay for the things she needs! So God considers that HYP this poor widow has put more money into the box than all the others.”

⁵ Some of Jesus' disciples talked about the Temple. They commented about the beautiful stones used in building the Temple and the other decorations that people had given, decorations that were on the walls. But he said,

⁶ “ I want to tell you something about these things that you are looking at. They will be destroyed { Foreign invaders will destroy these buildings} completely. Every stone in these buildings will be thrown down {They will throw down every stone in these buildings}. Not one stone will be left {They will not leave one stone} on top of another.”

⁷ Later his disciples asked him, “Teacher, when will that happen? What will happen to the temple to indicate that the things you(sg) just told us are about to happen?”

⁸ He said, “ All that I will say is, be sure that you are not deceived {that they do not deceive you} about these things! Many people will come and say ◄that I sent them/that they have my authority► MTY. They will say, ‘I am the Messiah!’ They will also say ‘It is now the time when God will begin to rule!’ Do not follow them to become their disciples

⁹ Also, whenever you hear about wars and riots, do not be terrified. Keep in mind that God has said that those things must happen. But when they happen, it will not mean that the world will end right away!”

¹⁰ Then he said to them, “ Groups in various countries will fight each other, and various governments will also fight against each other.

¹¹ There will be big earthquakes, and in various places there will be famines and plagues. People will see things that will terrify them. There will also be unusual things happening in the sky.

¹² But before all these things happen, some of you will be persecuted and arrested {people will persecute some of you and arrest you} MTY. Some of you will be put {They will put some of you} on trial in the places where you gather to worship, and you will be thrown into prison. You will be put on trial { They will put you on trial} in front of high government authorities because you are my MTY disciples.

¹³ That will be a time for you to tell them about me.

¹⁴ So determine within yourselves not to be worrying before that happens what you will say to defend yourselves,

¹⁵ because I will make you wise HEN so that you will know what to say. As a result, none of your enemies will be able to oppose what you say or ◄refute you/show that you are wrong►.

¹⁶ And there will also be other evil things that will happen: Even your parents and brothers and other relatives and friends who do not believe in me will ◄betray you/help your enemies to seize you►. They will kill some of you.

¹⁷ In general, most people will HYP hate you because you believe in me MTY.

¹⁸ But your souls will be absolutely safe IDM.

¹⁹ By enduring all these things people will do to you, you will preserve your eternal life SYN.”

²⁰ “But when you see that Jerusalem has been surrounded by the armies of your enemies, you will know that it is time for this city to be completely destroyed { them to completely destroy this city}.

²¹ At that time those of you who are in Judea district must flee to the higher hills. Those who are in this city must leave quickly. Those who are in the nearby countryside must not go back into the city to get any of their possessions before they flee.

²² You must obey what I tell you because, in order that all the things that are written in the Scriptures will be fulfilled, God will very severely punish the people who stay in this city.

²³ I feel very sorry for women in this city who will be pregnant, and women who will be nursing their babies in those days, because it will be very difficult for them to run away! I feel sorry because the people in this land will suffer greatly MTY when God punishes them.

²⁴ Many of them will be killed {Their enemies will kill many of them} with swords. Others will be captured and taken {They will capture others and take them} to HYP other countries. Non-Jewish people will trample over Jerusalem until the time that God has determined for them to rule the city is ended.”

²⁵ “There will also be strange things that will happen to the sun, the moon, and the stars. In many nations, people will be very frightened, and they will be anxious when they hear the ocean roaring and see huge waves.

²⁶ People will faint because they will be afraid as they wait for what will happen. They will be afraid because the powerful objects in the sky will be shaken {shake}.

²⁷ Then they will see me, the one who came from heaven, coming in a cloud powerfully and very gloriously.

⁷ And they said to him, Master, when will these things be? and what sign will there be when these events are to take place?

⁸ And he said, Take care that you are not tricked: for a number of people will come in my name, saying, I am he; and, The time is near: do not go after them.

⁹ And when news of wars and troubled times comes to your ears, have no fear; for these things have to be, but the end will not be now.

¹⁰ Then he said to them, Nation will be moved against nation and kingdom against kingdom:

¹¹ There will be great earth-shocks and outbursts of disease in a number of places, and men will be without food; and there will be wonders and great signs from heaven.

¹² But before all this, they will take you and be very cruel to you, giving you up to the Synagogues and to prisons, taking you before kings and rulers, because of my name.

¹³ And it will be turned to a witness for you.

¹⁴ So take care not to be troubled before the time comes, about what answers you will give:

¹⁵ For I will give you words and wisdom, so that not one of those who are against you will be able to get the better of you, or to put you in the wrong.

¹⁶ But you will be given up even by your fathers and mothers, your brothers and relations and friends; and some of you will be put to death.

¹⁷ And you will be hated by all men, because of me.

¹⁸ But not a hair of your head will come to destruction.

¹⁹ By going through all these things, you will keep your lives.

²⁰ But when you see armies all round about Jerusalem, then be certain that her destruction is near.

²¹ Then let those who are in Judaea go in flight to the mountains; and those who are in the middle of the town go out; and let not those who are in the country come in.

²² For these are the days of punishment, in which all the things in the Writings will be put into effect.

²³ It will be hard for women who are with child, and for her with a baby at the breast, in those days. For great trouble will come on the land, and wrath on this people.

²⁴ And they will be put to death with the sword, and will be taken as prisoners into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be crushed under the feet of the Gentiles, till the times of the Gentiles are complete.

²⁵ And there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; and on the earth, fear among the nations and doubt because of the loud noise of the sea and the waves;

²⁶ Men's strength will go from them in fear and in waiting for the things which are coming on the earth; for the powers of the heavens will be moved.

²⁷ And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your opposers shall not be able to reply to or resist.

¹⁶ But ye will be delivered up even by parents and brethren and relations and friends, and they shall put to death some from among you,

¹⁷ and ye will be hated of all for my name's sake.

¹⁸ And a hair of your head shall in no wise perish.

¹⁹ By your patient endurance gain your souls.

²⁰ But when ye see Jerusalem encompassed with armies, then know that its desolation is drawn nigh.

²¹ Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of it depart out, and those who are in the country not enter into it;

²² for these are days of avenging, that all the things that are written may be accomplished.

²³ But woe to them that are with child and to them who give suck in those days, for there shall be great distress upon the land and wrath upon this people.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the nations until the times of the nations be fulfilled.

²⁵ And there shall be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roar of the sea and rolling waves,

²⁶ men ready to die through fear and expectation of what is coming on the habitable earth, for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

²⁷ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

³ And he said: Verily I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

⁴ For all these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of God: but she of her want, hath cast in all the living that she had.

⁵ And some saying of the temple, that it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said:

⁶ These things which you see, the days will come in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone that shall not be thrown down.

⁷ And they asked him, saying: Master, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when they shall begin to come to pass?

⁸ Who said: Take heed you be not seduced; for many will come in my name, saying, I am he; and the time is at hand: go ye not therefore after them.

⁹ And when you shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified: these things must first come to pass; but the end is not yet presently.

²⁷ And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty.

³ And He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all.

⁴ For all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood which she had.”

⁵ Then, as some spoke about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said,

⁶ “These things which you see—the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down.”

⁷ So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when these things are about to happen?”

⁸ And He said: “Take heed that no one deceive you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I AM,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them.

²⁶ men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming upon the earth, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

²⁷ Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

³ So He said: “I tell you truly that this poor widow put in more than all of them;

⁴ because all these others put in gifts for God out of their abundance, but she, out of her destitution, put in all she had to live on.”

⁵ Then, as some were admiring the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said,

⁶ “These things that you see—the days will come in which not one stone will be left upon another that will not be thrown down.”

⁷ So they asked Him, saying: “Teacher, so when will these things be?” and “What will be the sign when these things are about to happen?”

⁸ So He said: “Be careful, so as not to be deceived, because many will come in my name saying: ‘I am’ and ‘The time is at hand.’ Therefore do not go after them.

³ “I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the rest together.

⁴ All of them gave from their wealth what they had, but she gave from her poverty all she had to live on.”

⁵ Some of those there were talking about the Temple, its fine stonework and the beautiful gifts that had been donated. But Jesus said,

⁶ “Regarding these things you're looking at… The time is coming when not one stone will be left on another; everything will be destroyed!”

⁷ “Teacher, when will this happen?” they asked him. “What will be the sign that these things are about to happen?”

⁸ “Make sure you're not deceived,” Jesus warned them. “Many people will come claiming to be me, saying, ‘Here I am!’ and, ‘The time has come!’ but don't follow them.

⁹ When you hear of wars and revolutions, don't be frightened, because these things have to happen first, but the end won't come immediately.

¹⁰ Nation will fight nation, and kingdom will fight kingdom,” he told them.

¹¹ “There will be severe earthquakes, famines, and epidemic diseases in many lands, and extraordinary signs in the sky that are terrifying.

¹² But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will drag you before synagogues and throw you into prison, and put you on trial before kings and governors on account of me.

¹³ But this will provide you an opportunity to speak on my behalf before them.

¹⁴ So make up your mind beforehand not to worry about how to defend yourselves,

¹⁵ for I will give you words of wisdom that your enemies won't be able to dispute or contradict.

¹⁶ You will be betrayed even by your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will kill some of you.

¹⁷ Everyone will hate you because of me.

¹⁸ But not a single hair of your head will be lost.

¹⁹ By standing firm you will gain your lives.

²⁰ However, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you know that its destruction is near.

²¹ Those who are in Judea should run away to the mountains, and those who are in Jerusalem should leave, and those who are the countryside shouldn't enter the city.

²² For these are days of punishment, fulfilling all that's written.

²³ How hard it will be for those who are pregnant or nursing babies at that time! For terrible trouble is coming on the land and punishment against this people.

²⁴ They will be killed by the sword and taken away as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trodden down by the foreign nations until their time is fulfilled.

²⁵ There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars, and on the earth the nations will be in distress, confused by the sea's rolling and crashing.

²⁶ People will be faint from fear, terrified about what is happening to the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.

²⁷ Then they'll see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

³ And he sayd, Of a trueth I say vnto you, that this poore widowe hath cast in more then they all.

⁴ For they all haue of their superfluitie cast into the offerings of God: but she of her penurie hath cast in all the liuing that she had.

³ And he sayde: of a trueth I saye vnto you this poore wyddowe hath put in moare then they all.

⁴ For they all have of their superfluyte added vnto the offerynge of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the substaunce that she had.

⁵ As some spake of the temple how it was garnesshed with goodly stones and iewels he sayde.

⁶ The dayes will come when of these thynges which ye se shall not be lefte stone apon stone that shall not be throwen doune.

⁷ And they axed him sayinge: Master when shall these thinges be and what signe will therbe when suche thinges shall come to passe.

⁸ And he sayd: take hede that ye be not deceaved. For many will come in my name saying: I am he: and the tyme draweth neare. Folowe ye not them therfore.

⁹ But when ye heare of warre and of dissencion: be not afrayd. For these thinges must fyrst come: but the ende foloweth not by and by.

¹⁰ Then sayd he vnto the: Nacion shall ryse agaynst nacion and kingdom agaynst kyngdome

¹¹ and greate erthquakes shall be in all quarters and honger and pestilence: and fearfull thinges. And greate signes shall therbe from heven.

¹² But before all these they shall laye their hondes on you and persecute you delyueringe you vp to the sinagoges and into preson and bringe you before kynges and rulers for my names sake.

¹³ And this shall chaunce you for a testimoniall.

²⁰ And when ye se Ierusalem beseged with an hoste then vnderstonde that the desolacion of the same is nye.

²¹ Then let them which are in Iewrye flye to the mountaynes. And let them which are in the middes of it departe oute. And let not them that are in other countreis enter ther in.

²² For these be the dayes of vengeance to fulfill all that are written.

²³ But wo be to them that be with chylde and to them that geve sucke in those dayes: for ther shalbe greate trouble in the londe and wrath over all this people.

²⁴ And they shall fall on the edge of the swearde and shalbe leed captive into all nacions. And Ierusalem shalbe trooden vnder fote of the gentyls vntyll the tyme of the gentyls be fulfilled.

²⁵ And ther shalbe signes in the sunne ad in the mone and in the starres: and in the erth the people shalbe in soche perplexite that they shall not tell which waye to turne them selves. The see and the waters shall roore

⁶ “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another which will not be torn down.”

⁷ So they asked him, saying, “Teacher, when will these things happen? What will be the sign when these things are about to happen?”

⁸ Jesus answered, “Be careful that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them.

⁹ When you hear of wars and riots, do not be terrified, for these things must happen first, but the end will not happen immediately.”

¹⁰ Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

¹¹ There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues. There will be terrifying events and great signs from heaven.

¹² But before all of these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you over to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors because of my name.

¹³ It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony.

¹⁴ Therefore resolve in your hearts not to prepare your defense ahead of time,

¹⁵ for I will give you words and wisdom that all your adversaries will not be able to resist or contradict.

¹⁶ But you will be delivered up also by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.

¹⁷ You will be hated by everyone because of my name.

¹⁸ But not a hair of your head will perish.

²³ Woe to them who are pregnant and to them who are nursing in those days! For there will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people.

²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword, and they will be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the sharpness of sword, and they shall be led prisoners or led captive into all folks; and Jerusalem shall be defouled of heathen men, till the times of nations be fulfilled.

²⁵ And tokens shall be in the sun, and the moon, and in the stars; and in the earth overlaying of folks, for confusion of the sound of the sea and of floods or of waves;

²⁶ for men shall wax dry for dread and abiding, that shall come into or on all the world; for virtues of heaven shall be moved.

²⁷ And then they shall see man’s Son coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty.

³ And he said, Truly I say to you, that this poor widow cast (in) more than all men. (And he said, I tell you the truth, this poor widow threw in more than everyone else.)

²² For these be the days of vengeance, (so) that all (the) things that be written, be fulfilled.

²³ And woe to them, that be with child, and nourishing or nursing in those days; for a great dis-ease or pressure shall be on the earth (or in the land), and wrath to this people.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the sharpness of (the) sword, and they shall be led (away as) prisoners or led captive into all folks; and Jerusalem shall be defouled of heathen men, till the times of (the) nations be fulfilled. (And they shall fall by the sharpness of the sword, and they shall be led away captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the nations be fulfilled.)

²⁵ And tokens (or signs) shall be in the sun, and the moon, and in the stars; and in the earth overlaying of folks, for confusion of the sound of the sea and of floods or of waves;

²⁶ for men shall wax dry for dread and abiding, (or for the fear and expectation), that shall come into or on all the world; for (the) virtues of (the) heaven(s) shall be moved (or for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken).

²⁷ And then they shall see man’s Son coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty. (And then they shall see man’s Son coming on a cloud, with great power and majesty.)

³ And he seide, Treuli Y seie to you, that this pore widewe keste more than alle men.

⁴ For whi alle these of thing that was plenteuouse to hem casten in to the yiftis of God; but this widewe of that thing that failide to hir, caste al hir liflode, that sche hadde.

⁵ And whanne sum men seiden of the temple, that it was apparailid with gode stoonus and yiftis,

⁶ he seide, These thingis that ye seen, daies schulen come, in whiche a stoon schal not be left on a stoon, which schal not be destried.

⁷ And thei axiden hym, and seiden, Comaundour, whanne schulen these thingis be? and what tokne schal be, whanne thei schulen bigynne to be don?

⁸ And he seide, Se ye, that ye be not disseyued; for many schulen come in my name, seiynge, For Y am, and the tyme schal neiye; therfor nyle ye go aftir hem.

⁹ And whanne ye schulen here batailis and stryues with ynne, nyle ye be aferd; it bihoueth first these thingis to be don, but not yit anoon is an ende.

¹⁰ Thanne he seide to hem, Folk schal rise ayens folk, and rewme ayens rewme;

¹¹ grete mouyngis of erthe schulen be bi placis, and pestilencis, and hungris, and dredis fro heuene, and grete tokenes schulen be.

¹² But bifore alle these thingis thei schulen sette her hoondis on you, and schulen pursue, bitakynge in to synagogis and kepyngis, drawynge to kyngis and to iusticis, for my name;

¹³ but it schal falle to you in to witnessyng.

¹⁴ Therfor putte ye in youre hertis, not to thenke bifore, hou ye schulen answere; for Y schal yyue to you mouth and wisdom,

¹⁵ to whiche alle youre aduersaries schulen not mowe ayenstonde, and ayenseie.

¹⁶ And ye schulen be takun of fadir, and modir, and britheren, and cosyns, and freendis, and bi deeth thei schulen turmente of you;

¹⁷ and ye schulen be in haate to alle men for my name.

¹⁸ And an heere of youre heed schal not perische;

¹⁹ in youre pacience ye schulen welde youre soulis.

²⁰ But whanne ye schulen se Jerusalem ben enuyround with an oost, thanne wite ye, that the desolacioun of it schal neiye.

²¹ Thanne thei that ben in Judee, fle to the mountans; and thei that ben in the mydil of it, gon awei; and thei that ben in the cuntreis, entre not in to it.

²² For these ben daies of veniaunce, that alle thingis that ben writun, be fulfillid.

²³ And wo to hem, that ben with child, and norischen in tho daies; for a greet diseese schal be on the erthe, and wraththe to this puple.

²⁴ And thei schulen falle bi the scharpnesse of swerd, and thei schulen be led prisoneris in to alle folkis; and Jerusalem schal be defoulid of hethene men, til the tymes of naciouns be fulfillid.

²⁵ And tokenes schulen be in the sunne, and the mone, and in the sterris; and in the erthe ouerleiyng of folkis, for confusioun of sown of the see and of floodis;

²⁶ for men schulen wexe drye for drede and abidyng that schulen come to al the world; for vertues of heuenes schulen be mouyd.

²⁷ And thanne thei schulen se mannys sone comynge in a cloude, with greet power and maieste.

³ and he said, 'Truly I say to you, that this poor widow did cast in more than all;

⁴ for all these out of their superabundance did cast into the gifts to God, but this one out of her want, all the living that she had, did cast in.'

⁵ And certain saying about the temple, that with goodly stones and devoted things it hath been adorned, he said,

⁶ 'These things that ye behold — days will come, in which there shall not be left a stone upon a stone, that shall not be thrown down.'

⁷ And they questioned him, saying, 'Teacher, when, then, shall these things be? and what is the sign when these things may be about to happen?'

⁸ And he said, 'See — ye may not be led astray, for many shall come in my name, saying — I am he, and the time hath come nigh; go not on then after them;

⁹ and when ye may hear of wars and uprisings, be not terrified, for it behoveth these things to happen first, but the end is not immediately.'

¹⁰ Then said he to them, 'Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,

¹¹ great shakings also in every place, and famines, and pestilences, there shall be; fearful things also, and great signs from heaven there shall be;

¹² and before all these, they shall lay on you their hands, and persecute, delivering up to synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for my name's sake;

¹³ and it shall become to you for a testimony.

¹⁴ 'Settle, then, to your hearts, not to meditate beforehand to reply,

¹⁵ for I will give to you a mouth and wisdom that all your opposers shall not be able to refute or resist.

¹⁶ 'And ye shall be delivered up also by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends, and they shall put of you to death;

¹⁷ and ye shall be hated by all because of my name —

¹⁸ and a hair out of your head shall not perish;

¹⁹ in your patience possess ye your souls.

²⁰ 'And when ye may see Jerusalem surrounded by encampments, then know that come nigh did her desolation;

²¹ then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; and those in her midst, let them depart out; and those in the countries, let them not come in to her;

²² because these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all things that have been written.

²⁶ men fainting at heart from fear, and expectation of the things coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

²⁷ 'And then they shall see the Son of Man, coming in a cloud, with power and much glory;
