² And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they have suffered these things?

³ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish.

⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem?

⁵ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

⁶ And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.

⁷ And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground?

⁸ And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

⁹ and if it bear fruit thenceforth, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day.

¹¹ And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up.

¹² And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

¹³ And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath.

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?

¹⁷ And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

² Jesus replied to them, “Do you think that this happened to those people from Galilee because they were more sinful than all the other people from Galilee?

³ I assure you, that was not so! But instead of being concerned about them, you need to remember that God will similarly punish you eternally if you do not turn away from your sinful behavior.

⁴ Or, consider the eighteen people who died when the tower at Siloam outside Jerusalem fell on them. Do you think that this happened to them because they were more sinful than all the other people who lived in Jerusalem?

⁵ I assure you, that was not so! But instead, you need to realize that God will similarly punish you eternally if you do not stop your sinful behavior!”

⁶ Then Jesus told them this illustration to show what God would do to the Jews, whom he continually blessed, but who did not do things that please him: “A man planted a fig tree on his farmland. ◄ Each year/Many times► he came to it looking for figs, but there were no figs.

⁷ Then he said to the gardener, ‘Look here ! I have been looking for fruit on this fig tree every year for the past three years, but there have been no figs. Cut it down! ◄It is just using up the nutrients in the soil for nothing!/Why should it continue using up the nutrients in the soil for nothing?► RHQ’

⁸ But the gardener replied to the owner, ‘Sir, leave it here for another year. I will dig around it and put manure around it.

⁹ If it bears fruit next year, we (inc) will allow it to keep growing. If it does not bear fruit next year, you (sg) can cut it down.’”

¹⁰ One ◄Sabbath/Jewish day of rest►, Jesus was teaching people in one of the Jewish meeting places.

¹¹ There was a woman there whom an evil spirit MTY had crippled for eighteen years. She was always bent over; she could not stand up straight.

¹² When Jesus saw her, he called her over to him. He said to her, “Woman, I am freeing you (sg) from your illness!”

¹³ He put his hands on her. Immediately she stood up straight, and she praised God!

¹⁴ But the man in charge ◄of the synagogue/of the meeting place► was angry because Jesus had healed her ◄on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►. He considered that healing was doing work. So he said to the people, “There are six days each week in which our Jewish laws permit people to work. If you need healing, those are the days to come ◄ to the synagogue/to the meeting place► and be healed. Do not come on our Jewish day of rest!”

¹⁵ Then the Lord replied to him, “You (sg) and your fellow religious leaders are hypocrites! ◄On the Sabbath/On our Jewish day of rest►, just like on every other day, ◄each of you unties his ox or donkey, and then leads it from the food trough to where it can drink water./does not each of you untie his ox or donkey, and then lead it from the food trough to where it can drink water?► RHQ That is work, too!

¹⁶ This woman is more important than an animal; she is a Jew, descended from Abraham! But Satan has kept her MET crippled for eighteen years, as though he had tied her up and not let her escape! So ◄it is certainly right that she be freed {that I free her}, even if this is a Sabbath day!/was it not right that she be freed {that I free her}, even if this is a Jewish rest day?► RHQ”

¹⁷ After Jesus said that, all the people there who opposed him were ashamed. But all the other people there were happy about all the wonderful things he was doing.

² Jesus answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?

³ I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?

⁵ I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.”

² And he, in answer, said to them, Are you of the opinion that these Galilaeans were worse than all other Galilaeans, because these things were done to them?

³ I say to you, It is not so: but if your hearts are not changed, you will all come to the same end.

⁴ Or those eighteen men who were crushed by the fall of the tower of Siloam, were they worse than all the other men living in Jerusalem?

⁵ I say to you, It is not so: but if your hearts are not changed, you will all come to an end in the same way.

⁶ And he made up this story for them: A certain man had a fig-tree in his garden, and he came to get fruit from it, and there was no fruit.

⁷ And he said to the gardener, See, for three years I have been looking for fruit from this tree, and I have not had any: let it be cut down; why is it taking up space?

⁸ And he said, Lord, let it be for this year, and I will have the earth turned up round it, and put animal waste on it, to make it fertile:

⁹ And if, after that, it has fruit, it is well; if not, let it be cut down.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the Synagogues on the Sabbath.

¹¹ And there was a woman who had had a disease for eighteen years; she was bent, and was not able to make herself straight.

¹² And when Jesus saw her, he said to her, Woman, you are made free from your disease.

¹³ And he put his hands on her, and she was made straight, and gave praise to God.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the Synagogue was angry because Jesus had made her well on the Sabbath, and he said to the people, There are six days in which men may do work: so come on those days to be made well, and not on the Sabbath.

¹⁵ But the Lord gave him an answer and said, O you false men! do you not, every one of you, on the Sabbath, let loose his ox and his ass and take it to the water?

¹⁶ And is it not right for this daughter of Abraham, who has been in the power of Satan for eighteen years, to be made free on the Sabbath?

¹⁷ And when he said these things, those who were against him were shamed, and all the people were full of joy because of the great things which were done by him.

² And he answering said to them, Think ye that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans because they suffered such things?

³ No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in the same manner.

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, think ye that they were debtors beyond all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?

⁵ No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in like manner.

⁶ And he spoke this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit upon it and did not find any.

¹² And Jesus, seeing her, called to her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath, answering said to the crowd, There are six days in which people ought to work; in these therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

¹⁵ The Lord therefore answered him and said, Hypocrites! does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the manger and leading it away, water it?

¹⁶ And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, ought she not to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

¹⁷ And as he said these things, all who were opposed to him were ashamed; and all the crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things which were being done by him.

² So in answer Jesus said to them: “Do you suppose that those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?

³ Not at all, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all likewise perish!

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower of Siloam fell and killed them; do you suppose they were worse offenders than all others living in Jerusalem?

⁵ Not at all, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all likewise perish!”

¹⁰ Now as Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath,

¹¹ He saw a woman there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years—she was bent over and could not straighten up.

¹² So He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity!”

¹³ He placed His hands on her and immediately she was made straight and started glorifying God.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue reacted with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and he said to the crowd, “There are six days in which one should work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath.”

¹⁵ So the Lord answered him and said: “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water?

¹⁶ So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan kept bound during eighteen long years, be freed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ When He said these things all His adversaries were put to shame, while all the crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things that were being done by Him.

² “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than any other Galileans because they suffered like this?” Jesus asked.

³ “No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as well.

⁴ What about those eighteen people that were killed when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Do you think they were the worst people in the whole of Jerusalem?

⁵ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as well.”

⁶ Then he told them this story as an illustration. “Once there was man who had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came to look for fruit on the tree, but he didn't find any.

⁷ So he told the gardener, ‘Look, for three years I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and I haven't found any. Chop it down! Why should it be taking up space?’

⁸ ‘Master,’ the man replied, ‘please leave it alone for just one more year. I'll dig the soil around it and put down some fertilizer.

⁹ If it produces fruit, then that's fine. If not, then chop it down.’”

¹⁰ One Sabbath Jesus was teaching in a synagogue,

¹¹ and a woman was there who had been crippled by an evil spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not stand straight.

¹² When Jesus saw her, he called her over and told her, “You're freed of your sickness.”

¹³ Then he placed his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up, and she praised God.

¹⁴ However, the synagogue leader was upset that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. He said to the crowd, “There are six days for work. Come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn't every one of you untie your ox or donkey from the stall and take it to drink?

¹⁶ Why shouldn't this woman, this daughter of Abraham whom Satan has kept tied up for eighteen years, be untied and set free this Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ What he said shamed all his opponents, but everyone in the crowd was delighted by all the wonderful things he was doing.

² And Iesus answered, and saide vnto them, Suppose ye, that these Galileans were greater sinners then al the other Galileans, because they haue suffered such things?

³ I tell you, nay: but except ye amend your liues, ye shall all likewise perish.

⁵ I tell you, no, but, unless you teshuvah ·turn repent·, you will all perish in the same way.”

¹⁶ Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham Father of a multitude, whom Satan Adversary had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath ·To cease· day?”

¹⁷ As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed, and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

² Jesus said, “Do you reckon those men did more bad things than all the other men from Galilee? Is that why God let Pilate kill them?

³ No. That is not right. Listen, all of you mob do bad things. You have to stop doing bad things and turn to God. If you don’t turn to God, you will die, just like those men died.

⁴ And you know about the high building in Jerusalem city, at the place called Siloam. It fell down on to 18 people, and killed them. Do you think those people did more bad things than the other people in Jerusalem, so God let them die like that?

⁵ No. That is not right. Listen, all of you mob do bad things. You have to stop doing bad things and turn to God. If you don’t turn to God, you will die, just like those people died.”

⁶ Then Jesus told them this picture story. He said, “A man had a garden with grape vines and fruit trees growing in it. One of those fruit trees was called a fig tree. That man often used to go to that garden, to see if there was any fruit on that tree, but he didn’t ever find any fruit.

⁷ So he talked to his workman, that looked after the garden. He said, ‘Look, this is no good. I have come here for 3 years looking for fruit on this tree, but I never found any. So chop it down and get rid of it. We can’t let it go on like this. It is using up the ground and giving back nothing to us.’

⁸ But his worker said, ‘Wait, Boss, give it one more chance. Leave it for another year, and I will look after it properly. I’ll dig around it and put some fertilizer stuff on it to help it grow,

⁹ and it might get fruit on it next year. If it doesn’t, then we can chop it down.’”

¹⁰ One Saturday Jesus was teaching people in a Jewish meeting house. Their Jewish law said that nobody can work on a Saturday. It was their rest day.

¹¹ There was a woman there with bad spirit inside her. A long time before that, the bad spirit went into that woman and made her back crooked. That bad spirit lived in her for 18 years, and all that time her back was bent over. She couldn’t stand up straight.

¹² Jesus saw her in that meeting house and said to her, “Come here, lady. You are better now. You are free from that sickness.”

¹³ Then he put his hands on her, and straight away she stood up straight. She said, “Oh God, you are really good.”

¹⁴ But the boss of that meeting house was angry, because Jesus made a sick woman better on their rest day. So he told the people, “Listen, you mob. There are 6 days for work each week, so come on any one of those days and get him to make you better. But Saturday is our rest day. Don’t come on Saturday.”

¹⁵ Jesus said to him, “You mob are wrong. You say one thing, but you yourselves do something different. You work on Saturdays too. You see, you keep bullocks and donkeys tied up in your yards, and every day you untie them and take them out to a water hole to let them drink. You do that on Saturdays too.

¹⁶ Now look at this woman here. She belongs to Abraham’s family. But the boss of the devils, called Satan, he made her back bad a long time ago. It’s like he has kept her tied up with this problem for 18 years. So why can’t I untie her, even on a Saturday?”

¹⁷ When Jesus said those words, the bosses of that meeting house were ashamed, but all the people were happy, because Jesus was doing a lot of really good things there.

² And Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: Suppose ye that these Galileans were greater synners then all the other Galileas because they suffred suche punisshment?

³ I tell you naye: but except ye repent ye shall all in lyke wyse perysshe.

⁴ Or those .xviii. apon which the toure in Syloe fell and slewe the thinke ye that they were synners above all men that dwell in Ierusalem?

⁵ I tell you naye: But excepte ye repent ye all shall lykewyse perisshe.

⁶ He put forthe this similiiude A certayne man had a fygge tree planted in his veneyarde and he came and sought frute theron and founde none.

⁷ Then sayde he to the dresser of his vyneyarde: Beholde this thre yeare have I come and sought frute in this fygge tree and fynde none: cut it doune: why combreth it the grounde?

⁸ And he answered and sayde vnto him: lorde let it alone this yeare also till I digge rounde aboute it and doge it to se whether it will beare frute:

⁹ and if it beare not then after that cut it doune.

¹⁰ And he taught in one of their sinagoges on the saboth dayes.

¹¹ And beholde ther was a woman which had a sprete of infirmite .xviii. yeares: and was bowed to gether and coulde not lifte vp hersilfe at all.

¹² When Iesus sawe her he called her to him and sayde to her: woman thou arte delyvered from thy disease.

¹³ And he layde his hondes on her and immediatly she was made strayght and glorified God.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the sinagoge answered with indignacion (be cause that Iesus had healed on the saboth daye) and sayde vnto the people. Ther are sixe dayes in which men ought to worke: in them come and be healed and not on the saboth daye.

¹⁵ Then answered him the Lorde and sayd: Ypocrite doth not eache one of you on the saboth daye lowse his oxe or his asse from the stall and leade him to the water?

¹⁶ And ought not this doughter of Abraham whom Sathan hath bounde loo .xviii. yeares be lowsed from this bonde on the saboth daye?

¹⁷ And when he thus sayde all his adversaries were ashamed and all the people reioysed on all the excellent dedes that were done by him.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath.

¹⁵ The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?

¹⁷ And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

² Yeshua answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?

³ I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?

⁵ I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.”

⁶ He spoke this parable. “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.

⁷ He said to the vine dresser, ‘Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down! Why does it waste the soil?’

⁸ He answered, ‘Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.

⁹ If it bears fruit, fine; but if not, after that, you can cut it down.’”

¹⁰ He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day.

¹¹ Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. She was bent over and could in no way straighten herself up.

¹² When Yeshua saw her, he called her and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.”

¹³ He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.

¹⁴ The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Yeshua had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!”

¹² Whom when Jesus had seen, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, thou art delivered of thy sickness.

¹³ And he set or put on her his hands, and anon she stood upright, and glorified God.

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagogue answered, having disdain for Jesus had healed in the sabbath; and he said to the people, There be six days, in which it behooveth to work; therefore come ye in these, and be ye healed, and not in the day of sabbath.

¹⁵ But the Lord answered to him, and said, Hypocrite, whether each of you untieth not in the sabbath his ox, or ass, from the cratch, or the stall, and leadeth to water?

² And he answered, and said to them, Ween ye that these men of Galilee were sinners more than all Galileans, for they suffered such things? (And he said to them, Do ye think that these men of Galilee were greater sinners than any other Galileans, because they suffered such things?)

³ I say to you, nay; all ye shall perish in like manner, no but ye have penance (or unless ye repent).

⁴ And as (for) those eighteen, on which the tower in Siloam fell down, and slew them, guess ye, that they were debtors more than all men that dwell in Jerusalem?

⁵ I say to you, nay; but also all ye shall perish, if ye do not penance (or if ye do not repent). Nay, I say to you; but also ye all shall perish, if ye shall not do penance.

⁶ And he said this likeness (or this parable), A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit in it, and found none.

⁷ And he said to the tiller of the vineyard, Lo! three years be, since I come seeking fruit in this fig tree, and I find none; therefore cut it down, whereto occupieth it the earth? (or why should it take up any space in the ground?)

⁸ And he answering said to him, Lord, suffer it also this year, the while I delve about it, and I shall dung it or and dung it; (And he answering said to him, Lord, allow it to remain this year, while I dig about it, and dung it;)

⁹ if it shall make fruit, (or) else if not, in time coming thou shalt cut it down.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in their synagogue in the sabbaths (or on the Sabbath).

¹¹ And lo! a woman, that had a spirit of sickness eighteen years, and was crooked or and was bowed down, and neither in any manner might look upward.

¹² Whom when Jesus had seen, he called her to him, and said to her, Woman, thou art delivered of thy sickness or thou art left (or thou art let go) of thy sickness.

¹³ And he set on her his hands, and anon she stood upright, and glorified God. (And he put his hands upon her, and at once she stood upright, and praised God.)

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagogue answered, having disdain for Jesus had healed in the sabbath; and he said to the people, There be six days, in which it behooveth to work; therefore come ye in these, and be ye healed, and not in the day of sabbath. (And the leader of the synagogue spoke, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the people, There be six days, on which it behooveth to work; and so come here on them, and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.)

¹⁵ But the Lord answered to him, and said, Hypocrite, whether each of you untieth not in (or on) the sabbath his ox, or ass, from the cratch (or from the feed-trough), and leadeth (it) to water? +Forsooth the Lord answering to him said, Hypocrite, whether each of you in the sabbath untieth not his ox, or his ass, from the cratch, or the stall, and leadeth (it) to water?

¹⁶ Behooved it not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo! eighteen years, to be unbound of this bond in the day of sabbath? (or on the Sabbath day?)

¹⁷ And when he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed, and all the people joyed in all (the) things, that were gloriously done of him (or that were wonderfully done by him).

² And he answeride, and seide to hem, Wenen ye, that these men of Galile weren synneris more than alle Galilees, for thei suffriden siche thingis?

³ Y seie to you, nay; alle ye schulen perische in lijk manere, but ye han penaunce.

⁴ And as tho eiytetene, on which the toure in Siloa fel doun, and slowe hem, gessen ye, for thei weren dettouris more than alle men that dwellen in Jerusalem?

⁵ Y seie to you, nai; but also `ye alle schulen perische, if ye doon not penaunce.

⁶ And he seide this liknesse, A man hadde a fige tre plauntid in his vynyerd, and he cam sekynge fruyt in it, and foond noon.

⁷ And he seide to the tilier of the vynyerd, Lo! thre yeeris ben, sithen Y come sekynge fruyt in this fige tre, and Y fynde noon; therfor kitte it doun, whereto ocupieth it the erthe?

⁸ And he answerynge seide to hym, Lord, suffre it also this yeer, the while Y delue aboute it, and Y schal donge it;

⁹ if it schal make fruyt, if nay, in tyme comynge thou schalt kitte it doun.

¹⁰ And he was techinge in her synagoge in the sabatis.

¹¹ And lo! a womman, that hadde a spirit of sijknesse eiytene yeeris, and was crokid, and `nethir ony maner myyte loke vpward.

¹² Whom whanne Jhesus hadde seyn, he clepide to hym, and seide to hir, Womman, thou art delyuerid of thi sijknesse.

¹³ And he settide on hir his hoondis, and anoon sche stood upriyt, and glorifiede God.

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagoge answerde, hauynge dedeyn for Jhesus hadde heelid in the sabat; and he seide to the puple, Ther ben sixe dayes, in whiche it bihoueth to worche; therfor come ye in these, and `be ye heelid, and not in the daie of sabat.

¹⁵ But the Lord answeride to hym, and seide, Ypocrite, whether ech of you vntieth not in the sabat his oxe, or asse, fro the cratche, and ledith to watir?

¹⁶ Bihofte it not this douytir of Abraham, whom Satanas hath boundun, lo! eiytetene yeeris, to be vnboundun of this boond in the dai of the sabat?

¹⁷ And whanne he seide these thingis, alle hise aduersaries weren aschamed, and al the puple ioiede in alle thingis, that weren gloriousli don of hym.

² and Jesus answering said to them, 'Think ye that these Galileans became sinners beyond all the Galileans, because they have suffered such things?

³ No — I say to you, but, if ye may not reform, all ye even so shall perish.

⁴ 'Or those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them; think ye that these became debtors beyond all men who are dwelling in Jerusalem?

⁵ No — I say to you, but, if ye may not reform, all ye in like manner shall perish.'

⁶ And he spake this simile: 'A certain one had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit in it, and he did not find;

⁷ and he said unto the vine-dresser, Lo, three years I come seeking fruit in this fig-tree, and do not find, cut it off, why also the ground doth it render useless?

⁸ 'And he answering saith to him, Sir, suffer it also this year, till that I may dig about it, and cast in dung;

⁹ and if indeed it may bear fruit — ;and if not so, thereafter thou shalt cut it off.'

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath,

¹¹ and lo, there was a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bowed together, and not able to bend back at all,

¹² and Jesus having seen her, did call her near, and said to her, 'Woman, thou hast been loosed from thy infirmity;'

¹³ and he laid on her his hands, and presently she was set upright, and was glorifying God.

¹⁴ And the chief of the synagogue answering — much displeased that on the sabbath Jesus healed — said to the multitude, 'Six days there are in which it behoveth us to be working; in these, then, coming, be healed, and not on the sabbath-day.'

¹⁵ Then the Lord answered him and said, 'Hypocrite, doth not each of you on the sabbath loose his ox or ass from the stall, and having led away, doth water it?

¹⁶ and this one, being a daughter of Abraham, whom the Adversary bound, lo, eighteen years, did it not behove to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day?'

¹⁷ And he saying these things, all who were opposed to him were being ashamed, and all the multitude were rejoicing over all the glorious things that are being done by him.
