¹² Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:—

¹³ for until the law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam’s transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come.

¹⁵ But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many.

¹⁶ And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one unto condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification.

¹² Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

¹² What you can learn from what I have written so far is as follows: All people are sinful PRS, and that is the result of Adam, the first man whom God created, sinning long ago. Adam died PRS because he sinned. So, all people who have lived since then die, because it is as though all people sinned when Adam sinned.

¹³ People in MTY the world sinned before God gave his laws to Moses. But people are not considered by God { God does not consider people} to be guilty for their sins if there is no law stating that what they did was sinful.

¹⁴ But we know that from the time when Adam lived until the time when Moses lived, all people sinned, and they died as a consequence PRS, MET. Even people who sinned differently from the way Adam sinned, died. Adam's sin affected all people, just like what Christ did, the one who came later, can affect all people.

¹⁵ But the results of God's erasing the record of our sins as a gift to us are not like the results of Adam's sinning. The result of one man, Adam, sinning was that many/all people have died. But it is certain, however, that many people have abundantly experienced God's acting kindly toward them in a way they did not deserve. It is also certain that they have experienced God's erasing the record of their sins as the result of one man, Jesus Christ, acting kindly toward them/towards them in a way they did not deserve.

¹⁶ And there is another way in which God's freely erasing the record of our sins is not like the results of Adam's sinning. One person, Adam, sinned. As a result, God declared that all people deserve to be punished. Many people sinned. But what God did was that he erased the record of their sins without their earning it.

¹² Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death passed to all men because all sinned.

¹³ For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not charged when there is no law.

¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those whose sins weren’t like Adam’s disobedience, who is a foreshadowing of him who was to come.

¹⁵ But the free gift isn’t like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

¹⁶ The gift is not as through one who sinned; for the judgment came by one to condemnation, but the free gift followed many trespasses to justification.

¹³ Because, till the law came, sin was in existence, but sin is not put to the account of anyone when there is no law to be broken.

¹⁴ But still death had power from Adam till Moses, even over those who had not done wrong like Adam, who is a picture of him who was to come.

¹⁵ But the free giving of God is not like the wrongdoing of man. For if, by the wrongdoing of one man death came to numbers of men, much more did the grace of God, and the free giving by the grace of one man, Jesus Christ, come to men.

¹⁶ And the free giving has not the same effect as the sin of one: for the effect of one man's sin was punishment by the decision of God, but the free giving had power to give righteousness to wrongdoers in great number.

¹² For this cause, even as by one man sin entered into the world, and by sin death; and thus death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

¹³ (for until law sin was in the world; but sin is not put to account when there is no law;

¹⁴ but death reigned from Adam until Moses, even upon those who had not sinned in the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him to come.

¹⁵ But shall not the act of favour be as the offence? For if by the offence of one the many have died, much rather has the grace of God, and the free gift in grace, which is by the one man Jesus Christ, abounded unto the many.

¹⁶ And shall not as by one that has sinned be the gift? For the judgment was of one to condemnation, but the act of favour, of many offences unto justification.

¹² Wherefore as by one man sin entered into this world, and by sin death; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned.

¹³ For until the law sin was in the world; but sin was not imputed, when the law was not.

¹⁴ But death reigned from Adam unto Moses, even over them also who have not sinned after the similitude of the transgression of Adam, who is a figure of him who was to come.

¹⁶ And the gift is not as by one having sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense brought condemnation, but the free gift from many offenses brought justification.

¹² Now then, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, just so death spread to all men, because all sinned

¹³ —sin was in the world before the law, to be sure, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

¹⁴ Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam's transgression (he is a type of the coming one).

¹⁵ Now the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one, how much more did God's grace and the bounty by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many!

¹⁶ Again, the gift is not like what came from one man's having sinned: because the judgment into condemnation followed one offense, while the gracious gift into justification followed many offenses.

¹² For through one man sin entered the world, and sin led to death. In this way death came to everyone, for everyone sinned.

¹³ Even before the law was given, sin was in the world, however it wasn't counted as sin because there was no law.

¹⁴ But death still ruled from Adam until Moses, even over those who didn't sin in the same way as Adam did. Now Adam prefigured the one to come.

¹⁵ But the gift of Jesus is not like the sin of Adam. Though many people died because of one man's sin, God's grace is so much greater and has been shared with so many through his gracious gift in the person of Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ The result of the gift is not like that of the sin. The result of Adam's sin was judgment and condemnation, but the gift sets us right with God, despite our many sins.

¹² Wherefore, as by one man sinne entred into ye world, and death by sinne, and so death went ouer all men: in who all men haue sinned.

¹³ For vnto the time of the Law was sinne in the worlde, but sinne is not imputed, while there is no lawe.

¹⁴ But death reigned from Adam to Moses, euen ouer them also that sinned not after the like maner of that transgression of Adam, which was the figure of him that was to come.

¹⁵ But yet the gift is not so, as is the offence: for if through the offence of that one, many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man Iesus Christ, hath abounded vnto many.

¹⁶ Neither is the gift so, as that which entred in by one that sinned: for the fault came of one offence vnto condemnation: but the gift is of many offences to iustification.

¹⁶ And the free gift is not like what happened through one man who sinned. For sentence of condemnation followed one offence; but the free gift is a justification after many offences.

¹² Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and through sin came death; so, also, death spread to all humanity, because every person has sinned.

¹³ Even before the time of the Law there was sin in the world; but sin cannot be charged against someone where no Law exists.

¹⁴ Yet, from Adam to Moses, death reigned even over those whose sin was not a breach of a law, as Adam's was. And Adam foreshadows the One to come.

¹⁵ But there is a contrast between Adam's offence and God's gracious gift. For, if by reason of the offence of the one man the whole human race died, far more were the loving kindness of God, and the gift given in the loving kindness of the one man, Jesus Christ, lavished on the whole human race.

¹⁶ There is a contrast, too, between the gift and the results of the one man's sin. The judgement, which followed on the one man's sin, resulted in condemnation, but God's gracious gift, which followed on many offences, resulted in a decree of righteousness.

¹² Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and through sin came death; so, also, death spread to all humanity, because every person has sinned.

¹² Think about the story about Adam. God told him, “If you eat any fruit from that tree you will die.” He did wrong, he ate that fruit, so he died. And that is the way it is with all of us people now. We all came from Adam, we all do wrong, and so we all die.

¹³ All the people that came from Adam did wrong in one way or another, so they all died at some time. This was the way it was before Moses came and wrote down the Law, everybody died. And it is just the same now after the law came, everybody still has to die. Before the law came, if somebody did wrong, nobody could point to a law to show that it was wrong. But they all died, so we know they all did wrong, even though they didn’t do it the same way as Adam did.

¹⁵ Jesus Christ came later, and he did something a lot different from the wrong thing Adam did. That one man, Adam, he went wrong, so many people have to die. But this other man, Jesus Christ, he is different. He makes many people alive. God gives us this life. He is very good to us even though we are not good enough for him. Jesus did much more for us than Adam did.

¹⁶ And we get something from Adam that is a lot different from the good thing that God gives us. Adam did just one bad thing, and from that now we all go wrong, so God has to punish us. But what God did is different. He is good to us and gives us life. It doesn’t cost us anything. So he will not punish us but he will call us his friends.

¹² Wherfore as by one man synne entred into the worlde and deeth by the meanes of synne. And so deeth went over all men in somoche that all men synned.

¹³ For even vnto the tyme of the lawe was synne in the worlde: but synne was not regarded as longe as ther was no lawe:

¹⁴ neverthelesse deeth rayned from Adam to Moses even over them also that synned not with lyke transgression as dyd Adam: which is the similitude of him that is to come.

¹⁵ But the gyfte is not lyke as the synne. For yf thorow the synne of one many be deed: moche more plenteous vpon many was the grace of God and gyfte by grace: which grace was geven by one man Iesus Christ.

¹⁶ And the gifte is not over one synne as deeth cam thorow one synne of one that synned. For damnacion cam of one synne vnto condemnacion: but the gyft cam to iustify from many synnes.

¹² So then, as through one man sin entered into the world, in this way death entered through sin. And death spread to all people, because all sinned.

¹³ For until the law, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law.

¹⁴ Nevertheless, death ruled from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin like Adam's disobedience, who is a pattern of him who was to come.

¹⁵ But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the trespass of one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound for the many!
