Romans 12:5-20 in English

⁵ so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another.

⁶ And having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;

⁷ or ministry, let us give ourselves to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching;

⁸ or he that exhorteth, to his exhorting: he that giveth, let him do it with liberality; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honor preferring one another;

¹¹ in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

¹² rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing stedfastly in prayer;

¹³ communicating to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.

¹⁴ Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹⁷ Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men.

¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men.

¹⁹ Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath of God: for it is written, Vengeance belongeth unto me; I will recompense, saith the Lord.

²⁰ But if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him to drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

¹⁴ Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

⁵ Similarly we, although we are many, are united into one group because of our relationship with Christ, and we belong to one another. So no one should act as though he is needed by God more than others are!

⁶ Instead, since each one of us can do various things that differ according to the abilities that God has given to us, we should do them diligently and cheerfully! Those whom God has enabled to speak messages from him should speak what corresponds to what they believe God told them.

⁷ Those whom God has enabled to serve others should do that. Those whom God has enabled to teach his truth should do that.

⁸ Those whom God has enabled to encourage/exhort his people should do that. Those who share their goods/money with others should do it sincerely/generously. Those who lead the congregation should do it wholeheartedly. Those who help the needy should do it cheerfully.

⁹ Love others sincerely! Hate what is evil! Continue to eagerly do what God considers to be good!

¹⁰ Love one another as members of the same family do; and, you should be ◄the first ones/eager► to honor each other!

¹¹ Do not be lazy. Instead, be eager to serve the Lord God!

¹² Rejoice because you are confidently awaiting what God will do for you! When you suffer, be patient! Keep praying and never give up!

¹³ If any of God's people lacks anything, share with them what you have! Readily take care of travelers who need a place to stay!

¹⁴ Ask God to be kind to those who ◄persecute you/cause you to suffer► because you believe in Jesus! Ask him to be kind to them; do not ask him to cause bad things to happen to them.

¹⁵ If someone is joyful, you should rejoice also! If someone is sad, you should also be sad!

¹⁶ Desire for others what you desire for yourselves (OR, Live harmoniously with each other)! Do not do things because you want to be famous! Instead, be content to do tasks that others consider that only unimportant people do (OR, to associate with unimportant people). Do not consider yourselves wise.

¹⁷ Do not do something evil to anyone who has done something evil to you. Act in a way that all people will recognize as good!

¹⁸ Live peacefully with other people whenever it is possible, to the extent that you can influence the situation.

¹⁹ My fellow believers whom I love, do not do something evil in return when people do something evil to you! Instead, allow God to punish them MTY, because it is {someone has} written in the Scriptures that the Lord said, “‘It is my responsibility to take revenge; I am the one who will punish people who do something something evil to you DOU,’ says the Lord.”

²⁰ Instead of doing something evil to those who have done something evil to you, do as the Scriptures teach: “If your (sg) enemies are hungry, feed them! If they are thirsty, give them something to drink! By doing that, you (sg) will cause them to feel ashamed and perhaps they will change their attitude toward you IDM.”

⁶ And having different qualities by reason of the grace given to us, such as the quality of a prophet, let it be made use of in relation to the measure of our faith;

⁷ Or the position of a Deacon of the church, let a man give himself to it; or he who has the power of teaching, let him make use of it;

⁸ He who has the power of comforting, let him do so; he who gives, let him give freely; he who has the power of ruling, let him do it with a serious mind; he who has mercy on others, let it be with joy.

⁹ Let love be without deceit. Be haters of what is evil; keep your minds fixed on what is good.

¹⁰ Be kind to one another with a brother's love, putting others before yourselves in honour;

¹¹ Be not slow in your work, but be quick in spirit, as the Lord's servants;

¹² Being glad in hope, quiet in trouble, at all times given to prayer,

¹³ Giving to the needs of the saints, ready to take people into your houses.

¹⁴ Give blessing and not curses to those who are cruel to you.

¹⁵ Take part in the joy of those who are glad, and in the grief of those who are sorrowing.

¹⁶ Be in harmony with one another. Do not have a high opinion of yourselves, but be in agreement with common people. Do not give yourselves an air of wisdom.

¹⁷ Do not give evil for evil to any man. Let all your business be well ordered in the eyes of all men.

¹⁸ As far as it is possible for you be at peace with all men.

¹⁹ Do not give punishment for wrongs done to you, dear brothers, but give way to the wrath of God; for it is said in the holy Writings, Punishment is mine, I will give reward, says the Lord.

²⁰ But if one who has hate for you is in need of food or of drink, give it to him, for in so doing you will put coals of fire on his head.

⁷ or service, let us occupy ourselves in service; or he that teaches, in teaching;

⁹ Let love be unfeigned; abhorring evil; cleaving to good:

¹⁰ as to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other:

¹¹ as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord.

¹² As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:

¹³ distributing to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.

¹⁴ Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep.

¹⁶ Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:

¹⁷ recompensing to no one evil for evil: providing things honest before all men:

¹⁸ if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men;

¹⁹ not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.

²⁰ If therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

¹⁴ Bless them that persecute you: bless, and curse not.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

¹⁶ Being of one mind one towards another. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹⁷ To no man rendering evil for evil. Providing good things, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of all men.

¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as is in you, have peace with all men.

¹⁹ Revenge not yourselves, my dearly beloved; but give place unto wrath, for it is written: Revenge is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.

⁶ Since we have different spiritual gifts according to the grace that was given us, let us use them: if prophecy, according to the analogy of the Faith;

⁷ if serving, in the serving; if teaching, in the teaching;

⁸ if exhorting, in the exhortation; the sharer, with simplicity; the leader, with diligence; the mercy-shower, with cheerfulness.

⁹ Love is to be genuine: abhorring the malignant; clinging to the good;

¹⁰ showing family affection to one another in brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

¹¹ not lagging in diligence; serving the Lord with an enthusiastic spirit;

¹² rejoicing in the hope; enduring the affliction; continuing steadfastly in prayer;

¹³ distributing to the needs of the saints; practicing hospitality.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.

¹⁶ Regard each other as being on the same level—do not distinguish the upper classes, but associate with the lower classes; do not exalt yourself.

¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Have regard for things that everyone considers to be good.

¹⁸ If possible, what depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

¹⁹ Dear ones, do not avenge yourselves; rather give place to the wrath; for it is written: “Vengeance is up to me; I will repay,” says the Lord.

²⁰ Therefore, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

⁵ so we are one body in Christ, even though we are many—and we all belong to one another.

⁶ We each have different gifts that vary according to the grace given to us. So if it's speaking for God, then you should do so depending on how much you trust in God.

⁷ If it's the ministry of service then you should serve; if teaching then you should teach;

⁸ if encouragement then you should encourage; if giving then you should give generously; if leadership then you should lead with commitment; if being merciful then you should do so gladly.

⁹ Love must be genuine. Hate what is evil; hold on tightly to what is good.

¹⁰ Be completely dedicated to each other in your love as family; value others more than yourselves.

¹¹ Don't be unwilling to work hard; serve the Lord with an enthusiastic spirit.

¹² Remain cheerful in the hope you have, put up with the troubles that come, keep on praying.

¹³ Share in providing for the needs of God's people, and welcome strangers with hospitality.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you—bless them, and don't curse them.

¹⁵ Be happy with those who are happy; cry with those who are crying.

¹⁶ Think about one another. Don't consider yourself more important than others; live humbly. Don't be conceited.

¹⁷ Don't pay back anyone evil for evil. Make sure you show everybody that what you're doing is good,

¹⁸ and as far as it's up to you, live at peace with everyone.

¹⁹ My dear friends, don't seek revenge, but leave it to God to execute judgment—as Scripture points out, “‘It's for me to dispense justice, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

²⁰ If those who hate you are hungry, give them food; if they're thirsty, give them a drink; for by doing so you pile fiery coals on their heads.

⁵ So we being many are one body in Christ, and euery one, one anothers members.

⁶ Seeing then that we haue gifts that are diuers, according to the grace that is giuen vnto vs, whether we haue prophecie, let vs prophecie according to the portion of faith:

⁷ Or an office, let vs waite on the office: or he that teacheth, on teaching:

⁸ Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that distributeth, let him doe it with simplicitie: he that ruleth, with diligence: he that sheweth mercie, with cheerefulnesse.

⁹ Let loue be without dissimulation. Abhorre that which is euill, and cleaue vnto that which is good.

¹⁰ Be affectioned to loue one another with brotherly loue. In giuing honour, goe one before another,

¹¹ Not slouthfull to do seruice: seruent in spirit seruing the Lord,

¹² Reioycing in hope, pacient in tribulation, continuing in prayer,

¹³ Distributing vnto the necessities of the Saintes: giuing your selues to hospitalitie.

¹⁴ Blesse them which persecute you: blesse, I say, and curse not.

¹⁵ Reioyce with them that reioyce, and weepe with them that weepe.

¹⁶ Be of like affection one towardes another: be not hie minded: but make your selues equall to them of the lower sort: be not wise in your selues.

¹⁷ Recompence to no man euill for euill: procure things honest in the sight of all men.

¹⁸ If it bee possible, as much as in you is, haue peace with all men.

¹³ Relieve the wants of the holy; be given to hospitality.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless, and curse not.

¹⁶ Be of one mind among yourselves. Set not your minds on high things, but content yourselves with what is humble. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹⁷ Render to no one evil for evil; have regard to what is honorable in the sight of all men.

¹⁸ If it be possible, as far as dependeth on you, be at peace with all men.

⁵ Well, this is a picture of us, God’s people. We all belong to Jesus Christ and it is just like each of us is a part of his body. Each of us has our own job to do. We all belong to Jesus so we all belong to each other.

⁶ God is good to us and gives each of us the power to do something properly. So if God gave you the power to tell his message to people, well you have to do this whenever you believe he has a message for you to tell.

⁷ Or maybe God gave you the power to help other people, well this is the thing that you have to do. Or if God gave you the power to teach other people, well this is the thing that he wants you to do.

⁸ Or maybe God gave you the power to cheer people up, well this is your job. Or maybe he gave you the power to share your money and things with other people, well he wants you to share it with people that need things. Or maybe God gave you the power to be a leader, well you have to try to lead people properly. Or if God gave you the power to feel sorry for people that have troubles, and the power to be good to them, well this is his job for you, so be happy while you do it.

⁹ Don’t just pretend to love other people. You have to love them properly. This means you have to hate everything that is bad for them and love everything that is good for them.

¹⁰ You have to love each other like brothers and sisters that belong to the same family. You have to respect other Christians more than you respect yourself.

¹¹ Don’t get lazy as you work for God but get really turned on about it.

¹² We know that everything will be real good after God fixes everything up, so think about this and you will be really happy. But if people give you trouble now, don’t get angry but stay calm and settled. And keep on talking to God about everything.

¹³ If any of God’s people need anything, you give them whatever you can. And always be happy to have visitors and let them stay at your place.

¹⁴ If anyone makes trouble for you, don’t ask God to punish them but ask him to help them.

¹⁵ If somebody is happy, you be happy with them too. If somebody is sad, you be sad with them too.

¹⁶ Always try to be friends with other people and try to agree with them. Don’t think to yourself, “I’m too good to be with them,” but be happy to sit down with anybody and be their friend. Remember, you don’t know everything.

¹⁷ If people do some bad things to you, don’t pay them back. You have to do good things, so people will know that you are a good.

¹⁸ Try not to argue with anybody and try not to fight with anybody.

¹⁹ Listen, my good friends, if somebody does something bad to you, don’t get up and do something bad to them to pay them back. No, just wait for God, and after he gets angry with them he will pay them back. We read this in God’s book, “It is God’s job to pay people back for the bad things they do. He will punish them, so don’t you try to do it.”

²⁰ So you have to do like we read in another place in his book, “If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. Then they will get sorry and ashamed for the bad things they did to you.”
