³ And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

⁴ And Jehovah said unto Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel.

⁵ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that have joined themselves unto Baal-peor.

⁶ And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand;

² And they called them to the sacrifices of their idols; and the people ate of their sacrifices, and worshipped their idols.

³ And Israel consecrated themselves to Beel-phegor; and the Lord was very angry with Israel.

⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, Take all the princes of the people, and make them examples of judgment for the Lord in the face of the sun, and the anger of the Lord shall be turned away from Israel.

⁶ And, behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Madianitish woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness.

⁷ And Phinees the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand,

² Then those women invited the men to come when the sacrifices were being offered to their gods. The Israeli men accepted. They went to the feasts with the women and worshiped the gods of the Moab people-group.

³ By doing that, those Israeli people joined the women in worshiping the god Baal add who the Moab people-group thought lived on Mount Peor. That caused Yahweh to become very angry with his people..

⁴ Yahweh said this to Moses/me: “Seize all the leaders of those men who are doing this and execute them while I am watching. Do that in the daytime. After you do that, I will no longer be angry with the Israeli people.”

⁵ So Moses/I said to the other Israeli leaders, “Each of you must execute your men who have joined others in worshiping Baal.”

⁶ But later, while Moses/I and many HYP other people were crying at the entrance of the Sacred Tent, while they/we were watching, one of the Israeli men brought a woman from the Midian people-group into his tent and started to have sex with her.

⁷ When Phinehas, who was the grandson of Aaron, saw that, he grabbed a spear

² For they sent for the people to be present at the offerings made to their gods; and the people took part in their feasts and gave honour to their gods.

³ So Israel had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor: and the Lord was moved to wrath against Israel.

⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, hanging them up in the sun before the Lord, so that the wrath of the Lord may be turned from Israel.

⁵ So Moses said to the judges of Israel, Let everyone put to death those of his men who have had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor.

⁶ Then one of the children of Israel came to his brothers, taking with him a woman of Midian, before the eyes of Moses and all the meeting of the people, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of meeting.

⁷ And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, seeing it, got up from among the people and took a spear in his hand,

² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.

³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-Peor; and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may be turned away from Israel.

⁷ And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose up from among the assembly, and took a javelin in his hand,

² Who called them to their sacrifices. And they ate of them, and adored their gods.

³ And Israel was initiated to Beelphegor: upon which the Lord being angry,

⁴ Said to Moses: Take all the princes of the people, and hang them up on gibbets against the sun: that my fury may be turned away from Israel.

⁵ And Moses said to the judges of Israel: Let every man kill his neighbours, that have been initiated to Beelphegor.

⁶ And behold one of the children of Israel went in before his brethren to a harlot of Madian, in the sight of Moses, and of all the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle.

⁷ And when Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest saw it, he rose up from the midst; of the multitude, and taking a dagger,

² who invited them to the sacrifices made to their gods. The Israelites ate the pagan meals and bowed down before these gods.

³ In this way the Israelites devoted themselves in worship to Baal of Peor, and the Lord was angry with them.

⁴ The Lord told Moses, “Arrest all the Israelite leaders and kill them before the Lord where everyone can see in order to turn the Lord's furious anger away from the people.”

⁵ So Moses instructed Israel's judges, “Each of you has to kill all of your men who have devoted themselves to worshiping Baal of Peor.”

⁶ Right then an Israelite man brought a Midianite woman to his family tent in full view of Moses and all the Israelites as they were crying at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

⁷ When he saw this, Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, left the assembly, grabbed a spear

² Which called the people vnto the sacrifice of their gods, and the people ate, and bowed downe to their gods.

³ And Israel coupled himselfe vnto Baal Peor: wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel:

⁴ And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Take all the heades of the people, and hang them vp before the Lord against ye sunne, that the indignation of the Lords wrath may be turned from Israel.

⁵ Then Moses sayd vnto the Iudges of Israel, Euery one slay his men that were ioyned vnto Baal Peor.

⁶ And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought vnto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the Congregation of the children of Israel, who wept before the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

⁷ And when Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the Priest sawe it, hee rose vp from the middes of the Congregation, and tooke a speare in his hand,

³ And Israel joined himself unto the Baal of Peor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto the LORD in face of the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.'

⁵ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that have been joined unto Baal-peor.

⁶ And, behold, one of the children of Israel came, and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the congregation of the children of Israel, and these were weeping by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

² And they called them to the sacrifices of their idols; and the people ate of their sacrifices, and worshiped their idols.

³ And Israel consecrated themselves to Baal-peor; and the Lord was very angry with Israel.

⁵ And Mosheh said to the judges of Israel: Slay every man his men who have joined themselves to Baala Pheor.

⁶ And, behold, a man of the sons of Israel came and brought to his brethren a Midianitha, in the eyes of Mosheh, and in the eyes of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of ordinance.

⁷ And Phinehas bar Elazar bar Aharon the priest saw, and arose from the midst of the congregation, and took a lance in his hand;

² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their deities. The people ate and bowed down to their deities.

³ Israel God prevails joined himself to Baal Peor. Adonai ’s anger burned against Israel God prevails.

⁴ Adonai said to Moses Drawn out, “Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Adonai before the sun, that the fierce anger of Adonai may turn away from Israel God prevails.”

⁵ Moses Drawn out said to the judges of Israel God prevails, “Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”

⁶ Behold, one of the children of Israel God prevails came and brought to his brothers a Midianite Descendant of Strife woman in the sight of Moses Drawn out, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel God prevails, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting. ³ The men of Israel joined in worshiping Baal of Peor, and Yahweh's anger was kindled against Israel.

⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, “Kill all the leaders of the people and hang them up before me to expose them in the daylight, so that my fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”

⁵ So Moses said to Israel's leaders, “Each of you must execute his people who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.”

⁶ Then one of the men of Israel came and brought among his family members a Midianite woman. This happened in the sight of Moses and all the community of the people of Israel, while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

⁶ And lo! one of the sons of Israel entered before his brethren to an whore of Midian, in the sight of Moses, and of all the company of the sons of Israel, which wept before the gates of the tabernacle.

⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, had seen this unshamefast doing, he rose from the midst of the multitude; and when he had taken a sword,

² which daughters called them to their sacrifices, and they ate (the sacrificial food), and worshipped the gods of those daughters;

³ and Israel made sacrifice to Baalpeor. And the Lord was wroth, (and the Israelites sacrificed to Baal of Peor. And the Lord was angry against them,)

⁴ and said to Moses, Take thou all the princes of the people, and hang them against the sun in gibbets, that my strong vengeance be turned away from Israel. (and said to Moses, Take thou all the leaders of the people, and hang them up on gallows out in the sun, so that my strong vengeance be turned away from Israel.)

⁵ And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Each man slay his neighbours, that made sacrifice to Baalpeor. (And Moses said to the judges of Israel, Each one of you kill his neighbours, yea, they who sacrificed to Baal of Peor.)

⁶ And lo! one of the sons of Israel entered before his brethren to an whore of Midian, in the sight of Moses, and of all the company of the sons of Israel, which wept before the gates of the tabernacle. (And behold! one of the Israelites brought a woman of Midian into his tent, in the sight of Moses, and all the congregation of the Israelites, who were mourning at the entrance to the Tabernacle.)

⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, had seen this unshamefast doing (or had seen this shameful thing), he rose (up) from the midst of the multitude; and when he had taken a sword,

² whiche douytris clepiden hem to her sacrifices, and thei eten, and worschipiden the goddis of tho douytris;

³ and Israel made sacrifice to Belphegor. And the Lord was wrooth,

⁴ and seide to Moises, Take thou alle the princes of the puple, and hange hem ayens the sunne in iebatis, that my wodnesse, `that is stronge veniaunce, be turned awai fro Israel.

⁷ And whanne Phynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone of Aaron, preest, hadde seyn this, he roos fro the myddis of the multitude; and whanne he hadde take a swerd,

² and they call for the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people eat, and bow themselves to their gods,

³ and Israel is joined to Baal-Peor, and the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel.

⁴ And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them before Jehovah — over-against the sun; and the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah doth turn back from Israel.'

⁵ And Moses saith unto the judges of Israel, 'Slay ye each his men who are joined to Baal-Peor.'
