¹¹ Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honor; but, lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honor.

¹² And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers that thou sentest unto me, saying,

¹³ If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; what Jehovah speaketh, that will I speak?

¹⁴ And now, behold, I go unto my people: come, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor saith, And the man whose eye was closed saith;

¹⁶ He saith, who heareth the words of God, And knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, Who seeth the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open:

¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh: There shall come forth a star out of Jacob, And a sceptre shall rise out of Israel, And shall smite through the corners of Moab, And break down all the sons of tumult.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession, who were his enemies; While Israel doeth valiantly.

¹⁹ And out of Jacob shall one have dominion, And shall destroy the remnant from the city.

²⁰ And he looked on Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; But his latter end shall come to destruction.

²¹ And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwelling-place, And thy nest is set in the rock.

²² Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, Until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

²³ And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this?

²⁴ But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim, And they shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber; And he also shall come to destruction.

²⁵ And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

¹¹ Now therefore flee to thy place: I said, I will honour thee, but now the Lord has deprived thee of glory.

¹² And Balaam said to Balac, Did I not speak to thy messengers also whom thou sentest to me, saying,

¹³ If Balac should give me his house full of silver and gold, I shall not be able to transgress the word of the Lord to make it good or bad by myself; whatsoever things God shall say, them will I speak.

¹⁴ And now, behold, I return to my place; come, I will advise thee of what this people shall do to thy people in the last days.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable and said, Balaam the son of Beor says, the man who sees truly says,

¹⁶ hearing the oracles of God, receiving knowledge from the Most High, and having seen a vision of God in sleep; his eyes were opened.

¹⁷ I will point to him, but not now; I bless him, but he draws not near: a star shall rise out of Jacob, a man shall spring out of Israel; and shall crush the princes of Moab, and shall spoil all the sons of Seth.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be an inheritance, and Esau his enemy shall be an inheritance of Israel, and Israel wrought valiantly.

¹⁹ And one shall arise out of Jacob, and destroy out of the city him that escapes.

²⁰ And having seen Amalec, he took up his parable and said, Amalec is the first of the nations; yet his seed shall perish.

²¹ And having seen the Kenite, he took up his parable and said, Thy dwelling-place is strong; yet though thou shouldest put thy nest in a rock,

²² and though Beor should have a skilfully contrived hiding-place, the Assyrians shall carry thee away captive.

²³ And he looked upon Og, and took up his parable and said, Oh, oh, who shall live, when God shall do these things?

²⁴ And one shall come forth from the hands of the Citians, and shall afflict Assur, and shall afflict the Hebrews, and they shall perish together.

²⁵ And Balaam rose up and departed and returned to his place, and Balac went to his own home.

¹¹ So now, get out of here! Go back home! I said that I would pay you a lot of money if you cursed them, but Yahweh has prevented you from getting any pay!”

¹² Balaam said to Balak, “ Do you not remember RHQ what I told the messengers that you sent to me? I said,

¹³ ‘Even if Balak would give me a palace filled with silver and gold, I would not disobey Yahweh. I cannot do anything bad or anything that is good that he does not approve of.’ And I told you that I could say only what Yahweh says to me.

¹⁴ So yes, I will return to my people, but first, allow me to tell you what will happen to you Moab people in the future.”

¹⁵ So Balaam said this to Balak: “I, Balaam, son of Beor, am again giving a prophecy, speaking as a man who sees what will happen in the future clearly speaks.

¹⁶ I hear a message from God; I know things that God, who lives in heaven, has revealed to me. I see a vision from him who is all-powerful. My eyes are open as I prostrate myself in front of him.

¹⁷ The things that I see in the vision are not going to happen now; I see things that God will cause to happen in the future. A man who is a descendant of Jacob will appear like a star MET; a king who holds a scepter will be one of the Israeli people. He will crush the heads of you people of Moab; he will wipe out the descendants of Seth.

¹⁸ The Israelis will occupy Edom, and they will conquer their enemies who live near Seir Mountain. The Israeli people will be victorious/strong.

¹⁹ A ruler who is a descendant of Jacob will come; he will get rid of the people who still live in the city where Balaam first met Balak.”

²⁰ Then Balaam looked out over where the Amalek people-group lived, and he prophesied this: “The Amalek people-group were the greatest nation, but they will be wiped out.”

²¹ Then he looked out over the area where the Ken people-group lived, and he prophesied this: “You think that the place where you live is secure/safe like a nest that is made in the cliffs MET,

²² but you will be wiped out when the army of Assyria conquers you.”

²³ Balaam ended his prophecies by saying, “Also, ◄who can ‘survive/escape’ when God does all these things?/no one will be able to ‘survive/escape’ when God does all these things!► RHQ

²⁴ Ships will come from Cyprus Island, and the men in those ships will defeat the armies of Assyria and Eber. But God will get rid of those men, too.”

²⁵ Then Balaam and Balak returned to their homes.

²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.

²³ He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

²⁴ But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction.”

²⁵ Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

¹¹ Go back quickly to the place you came from: it was my purpose to give you a place of honour, but now the Lord has kept you back from honour.

¹² Then Balaam said to Balak, Did I not say to the men you sent to me,

¹³ Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, it would not be possible for me to go outside the orders of the Lord, doing good or evil at the impulse of my mind; whatever the Lord says I will say?

¹⁴ So now I will go back to my people: but first let me make clear to you what this people will do to your people in days to come.

¹⁵ Then he went on with his story and said, These are the words of Balaam, the son of Beor, the words of him whose eyes are open:

¹⁶ He says, whose ear is open to the words of God, who has knowledge of the Most High, who has seen the vision of the Ruler of all, falling down and having his eyes open:

¹⁷ I see him, but not now: looking on him, but not near: a star will come out of Jacob, and a rod of authority out of Israel, sending destruction to the farthest limits of Moab and on the head of all the sons of Sheth.

¹⁸ Edom will be his heritage, and he will put an end to the last of the people of Seir.

¹⁹ And Israel will go on in strength, and Jacob will have rule over his haters.

²⁰ Then, turning his eyes to Amalek, he went on with his story and said, Amalek was the first of the nations, but his part will be destruction for ever.

²¹ And looking on the Kenites he went on with his story and said, Strong is your living-place, and your secret place is safe in the rock.

²² But still the Kenites will be wasted, till Asshur takes you away prisoner.

²³ Then he went on with his story and said, But who may keep his life when God does this?

²⁴ But ships will come from the direction of Kittim, troubling Asshur and troubling Eber, and like the others their fate will be destruction.

²⁵ Then Balaam got up and went back to his place: and Balak went away.

¹¹ And now flee thou to thy place; I said I would very highly honour thee, and behold, Jehovah has kept thee back from honour.

¹² And Balaam said to Balak, Did I not also speak to thy messengers whom thou sentest to me, saying,

¹³ If Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the commandment of Jehovah to do good or bad out of my heart: what Jehovah shall say, that will I speak?

¹⁴ And now behold, I go to my people: come, I will admonish thee what this people will do to thy people at the end of days.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor saith, and the man of opened eye saith,

¹⁶ He saith, who heareth the words of God, who knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, Who seeth the vision of the Almighty, who falleth down, and who hath his eyes open:

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not nigh: There cometh a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and he shall cut in pieces the corners of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be a possession, and Seir a possession, — they, his enemies; but Israel will do valiantly.

¹⁹ And one out of Jacob shall have dominion, and will destroy out of the city what remaineth.

²⁰ And he saw Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, Amalek is the first of the nations, but his latter end shall be for destruction.

²¹ And he saw the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Firm is thy dwelling-place, and thy nest fixed in the rock;

²² But the Kenite shall be consumed, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

²³ And he took up his parable, and said, Alas! Who shall live when God doeth this?

²⁴ And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and afflict Asshur, and afflict Eber, and he also shall be for destruction.

²⁵ And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

¹¹ Return to thy place. I had determined indeed greatly to honour thee, but the Lord hath deprived thee of the honour designed for thee.

¹² Balaam made answer to Balac: Did I not say to thy messengers, whom thou sentest to me:

¹³ If Balac would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to utter any thing of my own head either good or evil: but whatsoever the Lord shall say, that I will speak?

¹⁴ But yet going to my people, I will give thee counsel, what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.

¹⁵ Therefore taking up his parable, again he said: Balaam the son of Beor hath said: The man whose eye is stopped up, hath said:

¹⁶ The hearer of the words of God hath said, who knoweth the doctrine of the Highest, and seeth the visions of the Almighty, who falling hath his eyes opened:

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near. A STAR SHALL RISE out of Jacob and a sceptre shall spring up from Israel: and shall strike the chiefs of Moab, and shall waste all the children of Seth.

¹⁸ And he shall possess Idumea: the inheritance of Seir shall come to their enemies, but Israel shall do manfully.

¹⁹ Out of Jacob shall he come that shall rule, and shall destroy the remains of the city.

²⁰ And when he saw Amalec, he took up his parable, and said: Amalec the beginning of nations, whose latter ends shall be destroyed.

²¹ He saw also the Cinite: and took up his parable, and said: Thy habitation indeed is strong: but though thou build thy nest in a rock,

²² And thou be chosen of the stock of Cin, how long shalt thou be able to continue? For Assur shall take thee captive.

²³ And taking up his parable, again he said: Alas, who shall live when God shall do these things?

²⁴ They shall come in galleys from Italy, they shall overcome the Assyrians, and shall waste the Hebrews, and at the last they themselves also shall perish.

²⁵ And Balaam rose, and returned to his place: Balac also returned the way that he came.

¹¹ Leave right now! Go home! I promised to pay you well, but the Lord has made sure you wouldn't receive any payment.”

¹² But Balaam said to Balak, “Didn't I already explain to the messengers you sent

¹³ that even if you gave me your whole palace full of silver and gold, I couldn't do anything I wanted or disobey the command of the Lord my God in any way? I can only say what the Lord tells me.

¹⁴ Listen! I'm going back home now to my own people, but first let me warn you what these Israelites are going to do to your people in the future.”

¹⁵ Then Balaam gave a declaration, saying, “This is the prophecy of Balaam, son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose eyes are wide open

¹⁶ the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who receives knowledge from the Most High, who sees the vision given by Almighty, who bows down in respect with open eyes.

¹⁷ I see him, but this isn't now. I observe him, but this isn't close at hand. In the future a leader like a star will come from Jacob, a ruler with a scepter will come to power from Israel. He will crush the heads of the Moabites, and destroy all the people of Seth.

¹⁸ The country of Edom will be conquered, his enemy Seir will be conquered, and the Israelites will be victorious.

¹⁹ A ruler from Jacob will come and destroy those left in the city.”

²⁰ Balaam turned his attention to the Amalekites and gave this declaration about them, saying, “Amalek was first among the nations, but they will end up being destroyed.”

²¹ He turned his attention to the Kenites and gave this declaration about them, saying, “Where you live is safe and secure, like a nest on a cliff-face.

²² But Kain will be burned down when Assyria conquers you.”

²³ Then Balaam gave another declaration, saying, “It's a tragedy! Who can survive when God does this?

²⁴ Ships will be sent from Cyprus to attack Assyria and Eber, but they too will be permanently destroyed.”

²⁵ Then Balaam left and returned to his own country, and Balak left too.

¹¹ Therefore nowe flee vnto thy place: I thought surely to promote thee vnto honour, but loe, the Lord hath kept thee backe from honour.

¹² Then Balaam answered Balak, Tolde I not also thy messengers, which thou sentest vnto me, saying,

¹³ If Balak would giue me his house ful of siluer and gold, I can not passe the commandement of the Lord, to doe either good or bad of mine owne minde? what the Lord shall commaund, the same will I speake.

¹⁴ And nowe behold, I goe vnto my people: come, I will aduertise thee what this people shall doe to thy folke in the later dayes.

¹⁵ And he vttered his parable, and sayd, Balaam the sonne of Beor hath sayde, and the man whose eyes were shut vp, hath sayd,

¹⁶ He hath said that heard the words of God, and hath the knowledge of the most High, and sawe the vision of the Almightie, and falling in a traunce had his eyes opened:

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not nowe: I shall behold him, but not neere: there shall come a starre of Iaakob, and a scepter shall rise of Israel, and shall smite the coastes of Moab, and destroy all the sonnes of Sheth.

¹⁸ And Edom shalbe possessed, and Seir shall be a possession to their enemies: but Israel shall do valiantly.

¹⁹ He also that shall haue dominion shall bee of Iaakob, and shall destroy the remnant of the citie.

²⁰ And when he looked on Amalek, he vttered his parable, and sayd, Amalek was the first of the nations: but his latter ende shall come to destruction.

²¹ And he looked on the Kenites, and vttered his parable, and sayde, Strong is thy dwelling place, and put thy nest in the rocke.

²² Neuerthelesse, the Kenite shalbe spoyled vntill Asshur cary thee away captiue.

²³ Againe he vttered his parable, and sayd, Alas, who shall liue when God doeth this?

²⁴ The ships also shall come from the coastes of Chittim, and subdue Asshur, and shall subdue Eber, and he also shall come to destruction.

¹⁶ Thus saith he who heareth the sayings of God, and knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, falling down, with unvailed eyes:

¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh; there steppeth forth a star out of Jacob, and there ariseth a sceptre out of Israel, and he pierceth the chiefs of Moab, and destroyeth all the children of Sheth.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be a conquest, and Seir shall be a conquest for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.

¹⁹ And there shall rule the one from Jacob, and he shall destroy whatever escapeth out of the city.

²⁰ And he looked on Amalek, and he took up his parable, and said, The first of nations is Amalek; but his latter end shall be destruction for ever.

²² Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted: whither will Asshur carry thee away captive?

²⁴ But ships will come from the coast of Kittim, and will afflict Asshur, and will afflict 'Eber; and he also will be given to destruction for ever.

¹² And Balaam said to Balak, Did I not speak to thy messengers also whom thou sentest to me, saying,

¹³ If Balak should give me his house full of silver and gold, I shall not be able to transgress the word of the Lord to make it good or bad by myself; whatsoever things God shall say, them will I speak.

¹⁴ And now, behold, I return to my place; come, I will advise thee of what this people shall do to thy people in the last days.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable and said, Balaam the son of Beor says, The man who sees truly says,

¹⁶ Hearing the oracles of God, Receiving knowledge from the Most High, And having seen a vision of God in sleep; His eyes were opened.

¹⁷ I will point to him, but not now; I bless him, but he draws not near: A star shall rise out of Jacob, A man shall spring out of Israel; And shall crush the princes of Moab, And shall spoil all the sons of Seth.

¹⁸ And Edom shall be an inheritance, And Esau his enemy shall be an inheritance of Israel, And Israel wrought valiantly.

¹⁹ And one shall arise out of Jacob, And destroy out of the city him that escapes.

²⁰ And having seen Amalek, he took up his parable and said, Amalek is the first of the nations; Yet his seed shall perish.

²¹ And having seen the Kenite, he took up his parable and said, Thy dwelling place is strong; Yet though thou shouldest put thy nest in a rock,

²² And though Beor should have a skillfully contrived hiding place, The Assyrians shall carry thee away captive.

²³ And he looked upon Og, and took up his parable and said, Oh, oh, who shall live, when God shall do these things?

²⁴ And one shall come forth from the hands of the Kittim, And shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict the Eberites, And they shall perish together.

²⁵ And Balaam rose up and departed and returned to his place, and Balak went to his own home.

¹¹ And now go to thy place. I said, Honouring I would honour thee; but, behold, the Lord hath kept thee back from honour.

¹³ If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I have no power to transgress the decree of the Word of the Lord, to do good or evil of my own will; whatsoever the Lord shall sat that will I speak?

¹⁴ And now, behold, I go unto my people. Come, I will give thee counsel what thou shouldst do; and will show thee what this people will do unto thy people at the end of the days.

¹⁵ And he took up his parable, and said: Bileam, the son of Beor, speaketh, The man who saw the Beautiful speaketh,

¹⁶ He speaks who heard the Word from before God, And who knoweth knowledge from the Most High, Who saw the vision of the Almighty, prostrate when he saw.

¹⁷ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh. When a king shall arise out of Jakob, And the Meshiha be anointed from Israel, He will slay the princes of Moab, and reign over all the children of men;

¹⁸ And Edom shall be an inheritance, And Seir a possession of his adversaries; But Israel shall prosper in riches.

¹⁹ One will descend from the house of Jakob, Who will destroy him that escapeth from the city of the peoples.

²⁰ And he looked on the Amalkaah, and took up his parable, and said: Amalek was the beginning of the wars of Israel, But in his end he shall perish forever.

²¹ And he beheld the Shalmaah, and took up his parable, and said: Strong is the house of thy dwelling, And in a strong fortress thou hast set thy abode;

²² But yet Shalmaah shall be destroyed, For Athuria will make thee captive.

²³ And he took up his parable, and said: Woe to the wicked who may live when God doeth this!

²⁴ And ships will come from the Kittaee, And afflict Athur, and subdue beyond the Phrat; But they also shall perish forever.

²⁵ And Bileam arose, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went upon his way.

¹⁶ he says, who sh'ma ·hears obeys· the words of God, knows the knowledge of haElyon the Most High, and who sees the vision of Shaddai Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open:

¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob Supplanter. A scepter will rise out of Israel God prevails, and shall strike through the corners of Moab From father, and break down all the sons of Sheth.

¹⁸ Edom Red shall be a possession. Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Israel God prevails does valiantly.

¹⁹ Out of Jacob Supplanter shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.”

²⁰ He looked at Amalek Man who licks up, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek Man who licks up was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”

²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.

²² Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive.”

²³ He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

¹¹ So leave me right now and go home. I said I would greatly reward you, but Yahweh has kept you from getting any reward.”

¹² Then Balaam replied to Balak, “I said to the messengers that you sent to me,

¹³ 'Even if Balak gave me his palace full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond Yahweh's word and anything bad or good, or anything at all that I might want to do. I can say only what Yahweh tells me to say.' Did I not say this to them?

¹⁴ So now, look, I will go back to my people. But first let me warn you what this people will do to your people in the days ahead.”

¹⁵ Balaam began this prophecy. He said, “Balaam son of Beor speaks, The man whose eyes are wide open.

¹⁶ This is a prophecy of someone who hears words from God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who has visions from the Almighty, Before whom he bows down with open eyes.

¹⁷ I see him, but he is not here now. I look at him, but he is not near. A star will come out of Jacob, and a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will shatter Moab's leaders and destroy all the descendants of Seth.

¹⁸ Then Edom will become a possession of Israel, and Seir will also become their possession, enemies of Israel, whom Israel will conquer with force.

¹⁹ Out of Jacob a king will come who will have dominion, and he will destroy the survivors of their city.”

²⁰ Then Balaam looked at Amalek and began his prophecy. He said, “Amalek was once the greatest of nations, but his final end will be destruction.”

²¹ Then Balaam looked toward the Kenites and began his prophecy. He said, “The place where you live is strong, and your nest is in the rocks.

²² Nevertheless you Kenites will be consumed by fire when Assyria carries you away captive.”

²³ Then Balaam began his final prophecy. He said, “Woe! Who will survive when God does this?

²⁴ Ships will come from the coast of Kittim; they will attack Assyria and will conquer Eber, but they, too, will end in destruction.”

²⁵ Then Balaam got up and left. He returned to his home, and Balak also went away.

²⁰ He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”

²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.

²² Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive.”

²³ He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

²⁴ But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction.”

²⁵ Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

¹¹ Turn again to thy place; forsooth I deemed to honour thee greatly, but the Lord deprived thee from thine honour disposed.

¹² Balaam answered to Balak, Whether I said not to thy messengers, which thou sentest to me,

¹³ Though Balak shall give to me his house full of silver and of gold, I shall not be able to pass over the word of my Lord God, that I bring forth of mine heart anything, either of good or of evil, but whatever thing the Lord shall say, I shall speak that?

¹⁴ Nevertheless I shall go to my people, and I shall give counsel to thee, what thy people shall do in the last time to this people.

¹⁵ Therefore when a parable was taken, he said again, Balaam, the son of Beor said, a man, whose eye is stopped, said,

¹⁶ the hearer of God’s words said, which knoweth the doctrine of the Highest, and seeth the revelation of Almighty God, which falleth down, and hath open eyes,

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not nigh; a star shall be born of Jacob, and a rod shall rise of Israel; and he shall smite the dukes of Moab, and he shall waste all the sons of Seth;

¹⁸ and Idumea shall be his possession, the heritage of Seir shall befall to his enemies; soothly Israel shall do strongly,

¹⁹ of Jacob shall be he that shall be lord, and shall lose the relics, or remnants, of the city.

²⁰ And when he had seen Amalek, he took a parable, and said, Amalek is the beginning of heathen men, whose last things shall be lost.

²¹ Also he saw Kenites, and when a parable was taken, he said, Soothly thy dwelling place is strong, but if thou shalt set thy nest in a stone,

²² and shalt be chosen of the generation of Kenites, how long shalt thou be able to dwell? soothly Assur shall take thee.

²³ And when a parable was taken, or showed to him, he said again, Alas! who shall live, when the Lord shall do these things?

²⁴ They shall come in great ships from Italy, they shall overcome Assyria, and they shall destroy Eber, and at the last also they themselves shall perish.

²⁵ And Balaam rose, and turned again into his place; and Balak went again by the way in which he came.

¹¹ Turn again to thy place; forsooth I deemed to honour thee greatly, but the Lord deprived thee from thine honour (that was) disposed. (Return to thy place; I had intended to greatly reward thee, but the Lord hath now deprived thee of the reward which I had ordained for thee.)

¹² Balaam answered to Balak, Whether I said not to thy messengers, which thou sentest to me, (Balaam answered to Balak, Did I not say to thy messengers, whom thou sentest to me,)

¹³ Though Balak shall give to me his house full of silver and of gold, I shall not be able to pass over the word of my Lord God, that I bring forth of mine heart anything, either of good or of evil, but whatever thing the Lord shall say, I shall speak that? (Even if Balak shall give me all the gold and silver in his house, I shall not change the word of the Lord my God, so that I bring forth something out of my own heart, either good or bad, no, but whatever thing the Lord shall say, that I shall speak?)

¹⁴ Nevertheless I shall go to my people, and I shall give counsel to thee, what thy people shall do in the last time to this people. (Nevertheless, I shall now return to my people, but first I shall give thee counsel, what these people shall do to thy people in the days to come.)

¹⁵ Therefore when a parable was taken (or And so when he had received his prophecy), he said again, Balaam, the son of Beor, said, (yea), a man, whose eye is stopped, said,

¹⁶ the hearer of God’s words said, which knoweth the doctrine of the Highest, and seeth the revelation of Almighty God, which falleth down, and hath open eyes, (yea, the hearer of God’s words said, who knoweth the doctrine of the Highest, and seeth the revelation of Almighty God, and who falleth down, but his eyes still be open,)

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not nigh; a star shall be born of Jacob, and a rod shall rise (out) of Israel; and he shall smite the dukes of Moab, and he shall waste all the sons of Seth; (I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not near; a star shall be born in Jacob, and a sceptre shall rise up out of Israel; and he shall strike down Moab’s leaders, and he shall destroy all the sons of strife;)

¹⁸ and Idumea shall be his possession, the heritage of Seir shall befall to his enemies; soothly Israel shall do strongly, (and Edom shall become his possession, yea, the inheritance of Seir shall befall to their enemies; and Israel shall be victorious,)

¹⁹ of Jacob shall be he that shall be lord, and shall lose the relics, or (the) remnants, of the city. (for out of Jacob shall come he who shall be their lord, and he shall destroy those who last remain in the city of Ar.)

²⁰ And when he had seen Amalek, he took a parable, and said, Amalek is the beginning of heathen men, whose last things shall be lost. (And in a vision he saw the Amalekites, and when he had received his prophecy, he said, Amalek was the first in all the heathen, but its end shall be utter destruction.)

²¹ Also he saw Kenites, and when a parable was taken, he said, Soothly thy dwelling place is strong, but if thou shalt set thy nest in a stone, (And he also saw the Kenites, and when he had received his prophecy, he said, Thy dwelling place is strong, and thou shalt set thy nest in a stone,)

²² and shalt be chosen of the generation of Kenites, how long shalt thou be able to dwell? soothly Assur shall take thee. (and shalt be the chosen of the generation of Kenites, but how long shalt thou be able to live there? for Assyria shall take thee captive.)

²³ And when a parable was taken, or showed to him, he said again, (or And when he had received his prophecy, he said), Alas! who shall live, when the Lord shall do these things?

²⁴ They shall come in great ships from Italy (or They shall come in great ships from Chittim), (and) they shall overcome Assyria, and they shall destroy Eber, and at the last also they themselves shall perish.

²⁵ And Balaam rose, and turned again into his place; and Balak went again by the way in which he came. (And then Balaam rose up, and returned to his home; and Balak returned by the way by which he came.)

¹¹ Turne ayen to thi place; forsothe Y demede to onoure thee greetli, but the Lord priuyde thee fro onour disposid.

¹² Balaam answeride to Balaach, Whethir Y seide not to thi messangeris, whiche thou sentist to me,

¹³ Thouy Balaach schal yyue to me his hows ful of siluer and of gold, Y schal not mow passe the word of my Lord God, that Y brynge forth of myn herte ony thing, ethir of good ethir of yuel, but what euer thing the Lord schal seie, Y schal speke this?

¹⁴ Netheles Y schal go to my puple, and Y schal yyue counsel to thee, what thi puple schal do in the laste tyme to this puple.

¹⁵ Therfor whanne a parable was takun, he seide eft, Balaam, the sone of Beor seide, a man whos iye is stoppid,

¹⁶ seide, the herere of Goddis wordis seide, which knowith the doctrine of the hiyeste, and seeth the reuelacioun of almiyti God, which fallith doun and hath opyn iyen,

¹⁷ Y schal se hym, but not now; Y schal biholde hym, but not nyy; a sterre schal be borun of Jacob, and a yerde schal rise of Israel; and he schal smyte the duykis of Moab, and he schal waste alle the sones of Seth; and Ydumye schal be hys possessioun,

¹⁸ the eritage of Seir schal bifalle to his enemyes; forsothe Israel schal do strongli, of Jacob schal be he that schal be lord,

¹⁹ and schal leese the relikis of the citee.

²⁰ And whanne he hadde seyn Amalech, he took a parable, and seide, Amalech is the bigynning of hethene men, whos laste thingis schulen be lost.

²¹ Also `he siy Cyney, and whanne a parable was takun, he seide, Forsothe thi dwellyng place is strong, but if thou schalt sette thi nest in a stoon,

²² and schalt be chosun of the generacioun of Cyn, hou longe schalt thou mow dwelle? forsothe Assur schal take thee.

²³ And whanne a parable was takun, he spak eft, Alas! who schal lyue, whanne the Lord schal make thes thingis?

²⁴ Thei schulen come in grete schippis fro Ytalie, thei schulen ouercome Assiries, and thei schulen distrie Ebrews, and at the last also thei hem silf schulen perische.

²⁵ And Balaam roos, and turnide ayen in to his place; and Balaach yede ayen bi the weye in which he cam.

¹¹ and now, flee for thyself unto thy place; I have said, I do greatly honour thee, and lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honour.'

¹² And Balaam saith unto Balak, 'Did I not also unto thy messengers whom thou hast sent unto me, speak, saying,

¹³ If Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah, to do good or evil of mine own heart — that which Jehovah speaketh — it I speak?

¹⁴ and, now, lo, I am going to my people; come, I counsel thee concerning that which this people doth to thy people, in the latter end of the days.'

¹⁵ And he taketh up his simile, and saith: 'An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor — And an affirmation of the man whose eyes are shut —

¹⁶ An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God — And knowing knowledge of the Most High; A vision of the Almighty he seeth, Falling — and eyes uncovered:

¹⁷ I see it, but not now; I behold it, but not near; A star hath proceeded from Jacob, And a sceptre hath risen from Israel, And hath smitten corners of Moab, And hath destroyed all sons of Sheth.

¹⁸ And Edom hath been a possession, And Seir hath been a possession, for its enemies, And Israel is doing valiantly;

¹⁹ And one doth rule out of Jacob, And hath destroyed a remnant from Ar.'

²⁰ And he seeth Amalek, and taketh up his simile, and saith: 'A beginning of the Goyim is Amalek; And his latter end — for ever he perisheth.'

²¹ And he seeth the Kenite, and taketh up his simile, and saith: 'Enduring is thy dwelling, And setting in a rock thy nest,

²² But the Kenite is for a burning; Till when doth Asshur keep thee captive?'

²³ And he taketh up his simile, and saith: 'Alas! who doth live when God doth this?

²⁴ And — ships are from the side of Chittim, And they have humbled Asshur, And they have humbled Eber, And it also for ever is perishing.'

²⁵ And Balaam riseth, and goeth, and turneth back to his place, and Balak also hath gone on his way.
