²¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

²² Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those that were numbered thereof, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

²⁴ Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²⁵ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.

²⁶ Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

⁴² Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

⁴³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

⁴⁴ These are they that were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵ So all they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

⁴⁶ even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸ For Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ Only the tribe of Levi thou shalt not number, neither shalt thou take the sum of them among the children of Israel;

⁵⁰ but appoint thou the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all the furniture thereof, and over all that belongeth to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the furniture thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their hosts.

⁵³ But the Levites shall encamp round about the tabernacle of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

²⁰ And the sons of Ruben the first-born of Israel according to their kindreds, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their heads, were—all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that went out with the host—

⁴² For the sons of Nephthali according to their kindreds, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, every one who goes forth with the host,

⁴³ the numbering of them of the tribe of Nephthali, was fifty-three thousand and four hundred.

⁴⁴ This is the numbering which Moses and Aaron and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men, conducted: there was a man for each tribe, they were according to the tribe of the houses of their family.

⁴⁵ And the whole numbering of the children of Israel with their host from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out to set himself in battle array in Israel, came to

⁴⁶ six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites of the tribe of their family were not counted among the children of Israel.

⁴⁸ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ See, thou shalt not muster the tribe of Levi, and thou shalt not take their numbers, in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁵⁰ And do thou set the Levites over the tabernacle of witness, and over all its furniture, and over all things that are in it; and they shall do service in it, and they shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ And in removing the tabernacle, the Levites shall take it down, and in pitching the tabernacle they shall set it up: and let the stranger that advances to touch it die.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall encamp, every man in his own order, and every man according to his company, with their host.

⁵³ But let the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of witness fronting it, and so there shall be no sin among the children of Israel; and the Levites themselves shall keep the guard of the tabernacle of witness.

³⁸ Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

³⁹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.

⁴⁰ Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

⁴¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

⁴² Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

⁴³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

⁴⁴ These are they that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵ So all they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

⁴⁶ even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸ For the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ Only the tribe of Levi thou shalt not number, neither shalt thou take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

⁵⁰ but appoint thou the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all the furniture thereof, and over all that belongeth to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the furniture thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their hosts.

⁵³ But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

²⁰ This is a list of the number of men who were at least twenty years old and able to fight in battles, and the names of their tribes: There were 46,500 men from the tribe of Reuben (who was Jacob's oldest son); there were 59,300 men from the tribe of Simeon; there were 45,560 men from the tribe of Gad; there were 74,600 men from the tribe of Judah; there were 54,400 men from the tribe of Issachar; there were 57,400 men from the tribe of Zebulun; there were 40,500 men from the tribe of Ephraim; there were 32,200 men from the tribe of Manasseh; there were 35,400 men from the tribe of Benjamin; there were 62,700 men from the tribe of Dan; there were 41,500 men from the tribe of Asher; there were 53,400 men from the tribe of Naphtali.

⁴⁴ That was the number of men from each tribe that Aaron and Moses/I and the twelve leaders of the tribes of Israel listed, along with the names of their clans.

⁴⁶ The total was 603,550 men.

⁴⁷ But this number did not include the names of the men of the tribe of Levi,

⁴⁸ because Yahweh had said to Moses/me,

⁴⁹ “When you ◄count/write the names of► the men of the tribes of Israel, do not count the men in the tribe of Levi.

⁵⁰ Appoint the male descendants of Levi to take care of the Sacred Tent and the chest inside it that contains the tablets on which are written the Ten Commandments. They must also take care of the other things that are inside the tent. When you travel, they are the ones who must carry the tent and all the things that are inside it, and they must take care of it and set up their tents around it.

⁵¹ Whenever it is time for all of you to move to another location, the descendants of Levi are the ones who must dismantle the tent. And when it is time to stop traveling, they are the ones who must set up the Sacred Tent again. Any other person who goes near the Sacred Tent to do this work must be executed.

⁵² The people of each Israeli tribe must set up their tents in their own area, and they must set up a flag/banner that represents their tribe.

⁵³ But the male descendants of Levi must set up their tents around the Sacred Tent, in order to protect the other Israeli people from being punished MTY by Yahweh for coming close to the Sacred Tent. The descendants of Levi are the ones who must stand around the Sacred Tent to guard it.”

²⁰ And the sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their heads, were—all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that went out with the host—

²¹ the numbering of them of the tribe of Ruben, was forty-six thousand and four hundred.

²² For the children of Symeon according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,

²⁵ the numbering of them of the tribe of Juda, was seventy-four thousand and six hundred.

²⁶ For the sons of Issachar according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes forth with the host,

²⁷ the numbering of them of the tribe of Issachar, was fifty-four thousand and four hundred.

²⁸ For the sons of Zabulon according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,

²⁹ the numbering of them of the tribe of Zabulon, was fifty-seven thousand and four hundred.

³⁰ For the sons of Joseph, the sons of Ephraim, according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,

³⁸ For the sons of Dan according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes forth with the host,

³⁹ the numbering of them of the tribe of Dan, was sixty and two thousand and seven hundred.

⁴⁰ For the sons of Aser according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes forth with the host,

⁴¹ the numbering of them of the tribe of Aser, was forty and one thousand and five hundred.

⁴² For the sons of Nephthali according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, every one who goes forth with the host,

⁴³ the numbering of them of the tribe of Nephthali, was fifty-three thousand and four hundred.

⁴⁴ This is the numbering which Moses and Aaron and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men, conducted: there was a man for each tribe, they were according to the tribe of the houses of their family.

⁴⁵ And the whole numbering of the children of Israel with their host from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out to set himself in battle array in Israel, came to

⁴⁶ six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites of the tribe of their family were not counted amongst the children of Israel.

⁴⁸ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ See, you shall not muster the tribe of Levi, and you shall not take their numbers, in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁵⁰ And do you set the Levites over the tabernacle of witness, and over all its furniture, and over all things that are in it; and they shall do service in it, and they shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ And in removing the tabernacle, the Levites shall take it down, and in pitching the tabernacle they shall set it up: and let the stranger that advances to touch it die.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall encamp, every man in his own order, and every man according to his company, with their host.

⁵³ But let the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of witness fronting it, and so there shall be no sin amongst the children of Israel; and the Levites themselves shall keep the guard of the tabernacle of witness.

²⁵ those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

²⁶ Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:

⁴⁵ So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel, by their families, all those of twenty years old and over who were able to go to war,

⁴⁶ Were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites, of the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸ For the Lord said to Moses,

⁵⁰ But to them you are to give the care of the Tent of meeting with its vessels and everything in it: they are to take up the Tent, and be responsible for everything to do with it, and put up their tents round it.

⁵¹ And when the Tent of meeting goes forward, the Levites are to take it down; and when it is to be put up, they are to do it: any strange person who comes near it is to be put to death.

⁵² The children of Israel are to put up their tents, every man in his tent-circle round his flag.

⁵³ But the tents of the Levites are to be round the Tent of meeting, so that wrath may not come on the children of Israel: the Tent of meeting is to be in the care of the Levites.

²⁰ And the sons of Reuben, Israel's eldest son, their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

²¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

²² Of the sons of Simeon: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, those that were numbered of them, by the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

²³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

²⁴ Of the sons of Gad: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

²⁵ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

²⁶ Of the sons of Judah: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

²⁷ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

²⁸ Of the sons of Issachar: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

²⁹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

³⁰ Of the sons of Zebulun: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

³¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

³² Of the sons of Joseph: of the children of Ephraim: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

³³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred.

³⁴ Of the children of Manasseh: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

³⁵ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

³⁶ Of the sons of Benjamin: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

³⁷ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

³⁸ Of the sons of Dan: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

³⁹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

⁴⁰ Of the sons of Asher: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

⁴¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

⁴² Of the sons of Naphtali: their generations, after their families, according to their fathers' houses, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service:

⁴³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴⁴ These are those that were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, the twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers.

⁴⁵ And all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, according to their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, all that went forth to military service in Israel,

⁴⁶ all they that were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸ For Jehovah had spoken to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel.

⁵⁰ But thou, appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall serve it, and round about the tabernacle shall they encamp;

⁴⁴ These era they who were numbered by Moses and Aaron, and the twelve princes of Israel, every one by the houses of their kindreds.

⁴⁵ And the whole number of the children of Israel by their houses and families, from twenty years old and upward, that were able to go to war,

⁴⁶ Were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty men.

⁴⁷ But the Levites in the tribes of their families were not numbered with them.

⁴⁸ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

⁴⁹ Number not the tribe of Levi, neither shalt thou put down the sum of them with the children of Israel:

⁵⁰ But appoint them over the tabernacle of the testimony, and all the vessels thereof, and whatsoever pertaineth to the ceremonies. They shall carry the tabernacle and all the furniture thereof: and they shall minister, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ When you are to go forward, the Levites shall take down the tabernacle: when you are to camp, they shall set it up. What stranger soever cometh to it, shall be slain.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall camp every man by his troops and bands and army.

⁵³ But the Levites shall pitch their tents round about the tabernacle, lest there come indignation upon the multitude of the children of Israel, and they shall keep watch, and guard the tabernacle of the testimony.

²⁰ The descendants of Reuben, (he was Israel's firstborn son), men aged twenty or over, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

²¹ from the tribe of Reuben totaled 46,500.

²² The descendants of Simeon, men aged twenty or over, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

²³ from the tribe of Simeon totaled 59,300.

²⁴ The descendants of Gad, men aged twenty or over, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

²⁵ from the tribe of Gad totaled 45,650.

²⁶ The descendants of Judah, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

²⁷ from the tribe of Judah, totaled 74,600.

²⁸ The descendants of Issachar, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

²⁹ from the tribe of Issachar, totaled 54,400.

³⁰ The descendants of Zebulun, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

³¹ from the tribe of Zebulun, totaled 57,400.

³² The descendants of Joseph: the descendants of Ephraim, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

³⁴ And the descendants of Manasseh, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

³⁶ The descendants of Benjamin, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

³⁷ from the tribe of Benjamin, totaled 35,400.

³⁸ The descendants of Dan, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

³⁹ from the tribe of Dan, totaled 62,700.

⁴⁰ The descendants of Asher, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

⁴¹ from the tribe of Asher, totaled 41,500.

⁴² The descendants of Naphtali, men aged twenty or older, were recorded by name according to the genealogical records of their tribe and families. All those registered who could serve in the army

⁴³ from the tribe of Naphtali, totaled 53,400.

⁴⁴ These were the totals of the men counted and registered by Moses and Aaron, with the help of the twelve leaders of Israel, who each represented their family.

⁴⁵ In this way all the Israelite men aged twenty or older who were able to serve in Israel's army were registered according to their families.

⁴⁶ The sum total of those registered was 603,550.

⁴⁷ However, the Levites were not registered with the others according to their tribe and families.

⁴⁸ This was because the Lord had told Moses,

⁴⁹ “Don't register the tribe of Levi; don't count them in the census with the other Israelites.

⁵⁰ Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle and of the Testimony, as well as all its furniture and everything it contains. They are the ones responsible for carrying the Tabernacle and all its items. They are to care for it, and to make their camp around it.

⁵¹ When it's time to move the Tabernacle, the Levites shall take it down, and when it's time to make camp, the Levites shall put it up. Any outsider who goes near it must be put to death.

⁵² The Israelites are to make camp according to their tribal divisions, each person in their own camp under their own flag.

⁵³ But the Levites are to set up their camp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony to stop anyone making me angry with the Israelites. The Levites are responsible for looking after the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

⁴⁷ But the Leuites, after the tribes of their fathers were not nombred among them.

⁴⁸ For the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, and said,

⁴⁹ Onely thou shalt not number the tribe of Leui, neither take the summe of them among the children of Israel:

⁵⁰ But thou shalt appoynt the Leuites ouer the Tabernacle of the Testimonie, and ouer all the instruments thereof, and ouer all things that belong to it: they shall beare the Tabernacle, and all the instruments thereof, and shall minister in it, and shall dwell round about the Tabernacle.

⁵¹ And when the Tabernacle goeth forth, the Leuites shall take it downe: and when the Tabernacle is to be pitched, ye Leuites shall set it vp: for the stranger that commeth neere, shalbe slaine.

⁵² Also the children of Israel shall pitch their tentes, euery man in his campe, and euery man vnder his standerd throughout their armies.

⁵³ But the Leuites shall pitch rounde about the Tabernacle of the Testimonie, least vengeance come vpon the Congregation of the children of Israel, and the Leuites shall take the charge of the Tabernacle of the Testimonie.

⁵³ But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of Testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of Testimony.

²⁰ And there were of the children of Reuben the first-born of Israel, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²¹ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

²² Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, those that were numbered of them, by numbering the names according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²³ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

²⁴ Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²⁵ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.

²⁶ Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²⁷ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Judah, were seventy and four thousand and six hundred.

²⁸ Of the children of Issachar, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

²⁹ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.

³⁰ Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

³¹ Those that were numbered of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

³² Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the descent from their fathers, by numbering the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war.

⁴⁴ These are those that were numbered, whom Moses numbered with Aaron, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men; one man each for his family division were they.

⁴³ the numbering of them of the tribe of Naphtali, was fifty-three thousand and four hundred.

⁴⁴ This is the numbering which Moses and Aaron and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men, conducted: there was a man for each tribe, they were according to the tribe of the houses of their family.

⁴⁵ And the whole numbering of the children of Israel with their host from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out to set himself in battle array in Israel, came to

⁴⁶ six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites of the tribe of their family were not counted among the children of Israel.

⁴⁸ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ See, thou shalt not muster the tribe of Levi, and thou shalt not take their numbers, in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁵⁰ And do thou set the Levites over the tabernacle of witness, and over all its furniture, and over all things that are in it; and they shall do service in it, and they shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

⁵¹ And in removing the tabernacle, the Levites shall take it down, and in pitching the tabernacle they shall set it up: and let the stranger that advances to touch it die.

⁵² And the children of Israel shall encamp, every man in his own order, and every man according to his company, with their host.

⁵³ But let the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of witness fronting it, and so there shall be no sin among the children of Israel; and the Levites themselves shall keep the guard of the tabernacle of witness.

⁵³ But the Levites shall dwell round about the tabernacle of the testimony, that there may not be wrath upon the congregation of the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall watch the watching of the tabernacle of testimony.

²⁰ The children of Reuben See, a son!, Israel God prevails’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

⁴² Of the children of Naphtali My wrestling, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

⁴³ those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali My wrestling, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴⁴ These are those who were counted, whom Moses Drawn out and Aaron Light-bringer counted, and the princes of Israel God prevails, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵ So all those who were counted of the children of Israel God prevails by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel God prevails;

⁴⁰ From the descendants of Asher were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.

⁴¹ They counted 41,500 men from the tribe of Asher.

⁴² From the descendants of Naphtali were counted all the names of each and every man twenty years old or older able to go to war, from the records of their ancestor's clans and families.

⁴³ They counted 53,400 from the tribe of Naphtali.

⁴⁴ Moses and Aaron counted all these men, together with the twelve men who were leading the twelve tribes of Israel.

⁴⁵ So all the men of Israel from twenty years old and older, all who could fight in war, were counted in each of their families.

⁴⁶ They counted 603,550 men.

⁴⁷ But the men who were descended from Levi were not counted,

⁴⁸ because Yahweh had said to Moses,

⁴⁹ “You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the total of the people of Israel.

⁵⁰ Instead, assign the Levites to care for the tabernacle of the covenant decrees, and to care for all the furnishings in the tabernacle and for everything in it. The Levites must carry the tabernacle, and they must carry the tabernacle's furnishings. They must care for the tabernacle and make their camp around it.

⁵¹ When the tabernacle is to move to another place, the Levites must take it down. When the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites must set it up. Any stranger who comes near the tabernacle must be killed.

⁵² When the people of Israel set up their tents, each man must do so near the banner that belongs to his armed group.

⁵³ However, the Levites must set up their tents around the tabernacle of the covenant decrees so that my anger does not come upon the people of Israel. The Levites must care for the tabernacle of the covenant decrees.”

⁴² Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:

⁴³ those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴⁴ These are those who were counted, whom Moses and Aaron counted, and the twelve men who were princes of Israel, each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵ So all those who were counted of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel—

⁴⁶ all those who were counted were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them.

⁴⁸ For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ “Only the tribe of Levi you shall not count, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

⁵⁰ but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

⁵³ forsooth the deacons shall set their tents by compass of the tabernacle, lest indignation be made on the multitude of the sons of Israel; and they shall wake or watch in the keepings of the tabernacle of witnessing.

⁴⁷ Soothly the deacons in the lineage of their families were not numbered with them. (But the Levites, in the tribe of their families, were not listed with them.)

⁴⁸ And the Lord spake to Moses, and said, (For the Lord spoke to Moses, and said,)

⁴⁹ Do not thou number the lineage of Levi, neither set thou the sum of them with the sons of Israel; (Do not thou list, or register, the tribe of Levi, nor take thou the sum of them among the Israelites;)

⁵⁰ but thou shalt ordain them upon the tabernacle of (the) witnessing, and upon all the vessels thereof, and upon whatever thing pertaineth to the ceremonies, either sacrifices. They shall bear the tabernacle, and all the purtenances thereof, and they shall be in the service of it, and they shall set their tents by compass of the tabernacle (or and they shall pitch their tents around the Tabernacle).

⁵¹ When men shall go forth, or be removed, the deacons shall take down the tabernacle; when the tents shall be set (up), they shall set it up (again). Whoever of strangers nigheth (to it), he shall be slain (or he shall be put to death).

⁵² Soothly the sons of Israel shall set tents, each man by his companies, and his fellowships, and his host; (And the other Israelites shall pitch their tents, each man in his company, and his fellowship, and his army;)

⁵³ forsooth the deacons shall set their tents by compass of the tabernacle, lest indignation be made on the multitude of the sons of Israel; and they shall (stand) watch in the keepings of the tabernacle of witnessing. (but the Levites shall pitch their tents around the Tabernacle, lest my indignation come upon all the multitude of the Israelites; and they shall keep charge of the Tabernacle of the Witnessing.)

⁵¹ Whanne me schal go, the dekenes schulen do doun the tabernacle; whanne the tentis schulen be sette, thei schulen `reise the tabernacle. Who euer of straungeris neiyeth, he schal be slayn.

⁵² Sotheli the sones of Israel schulen sette tentis, ech man bi cumpenyes, and gaderyngis, and his oost;

⁵³ forsothe the dekenes schulen sette tentis bi the cumpas of the tabernacle, lest indignacioun be maad on the multitude of the sones of Israel; and thei schulen wake in the kepyngis of the `tabernacle of witnessyng.

²⁰ And the sons of Reuben, Israel's first-born — their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, by their polls, every male from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host —

²¹ their numbered ones, for the tribe of Reuben, are six and forty thousand and five hundred.

²² Of the sons of Simeon — their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, its numbered ones in the number of names, by their polls, every male from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host —

²³ their numbered ones, for the tribe of Simeon, are nine and fifty thousand and three hundred.

²⁴ Of the sons of Gad — their births, by their families, by the house of their fathers, in the number of names, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host —

²⁵ their numbered ones, for the tribe of Gad, are five and forty thousand and six hundred and fifty.

⁴⁴ These are those numbered, whom Moses numbered — Aaron also, and the princes of Israel, twelve men — each for the house of his fathers, they have been.

⁴⁵ And they are, all those numbered of the sons of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from a son of twenty years and upward, every one going out to the host in Israel,

⁴⁶ yea, all those numbered are six hundred thousand, and three thousand, and five hundred and fifty.

⁴⁷ And the Levites, for the tribe of their fathers, have not numbered themselves in their midst,

⁴⁸ seeing Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

⁴⁹ 'Only, the tribe of Levi thou dost not number, and their sum thou dost not take up in the midst of the sons of Israel;

⁵⁰ and thou, appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all that it hath; they bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels, and they serve it; and round about the tabernacle they encamp.

⁵¹ 'And in the journeying of the tabernacle, the Levites take it down, and in the encamping of the tabernacle, the Levites raise it up; and the stranger who is coming near is put to death.'

⁵² And the sons of Israel have encamped, each by his camp, and each by his standard, by their hosts;

⁵³ and the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of the testimony; and there is no wrath on the company of the sons of Israel, and the Levites have kept the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.
