Numbers 14:32-42 in English

³² But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your whoredoms, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my alienation.

³⁵ I, Jehovah, have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁶ And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

³⁷ even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land.

³⁹ And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which Jehovah hath promised: for we have sinned.

⁴¹ And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it shall not prosper?

⁴² Go not up, for Jehovah is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies.

³² And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.

³⁸ And Joshua the son of Naue and Chaleb the son of Jephonne still lived of those men that went to spy out the land.

⁴² Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies.

³² But as for you adults, you will die here in this desert.

³³ And like shepherds wander around in the desert as they take care of their sheep, your children will wander around in this desert for forty years. Because you adults were not loyal/faithful to me, your children will suffer until you all die in the desert.

³⁴ You will suffer for your sins for forty years. That will be one year for each of the forty days that the twelve men explored Canaan land. And I will be like an enemy to you.’

³⁵ This will certainly happen because I, Yahweh, have said it! I will do these things to every one in this group who conspired against me. They ◄conspired against/decided together to reject► me here in the desert, and they will all die right here in this desert!”

³⁶ Then the ten men who had explored Canaan and who had urged the people to rebel against Yahweh by giving reports that discouraged the people

³⁷ were immediately struck with a plague/disease that Yahweh sent, and they died.

³⁸ Of the twelve men who had explored Canaan, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.

³⁹ When Moses/I reported to the Israeli people what Yahweh had said, many of them were very sad.

⁴⁰ So the people got up early the next morning and started to go toward the hilly area in Canaan. They said, “ We know that we have sinned, but now we are ready to enter the land that Yahweh promised to give to us.”

⁴¹ But Moses/I said, “Yahweh commanded you to return to the desert, so why are you now disobeying him RHQ? It will not ◄succeed/be possible►.

⁴² Do not try to enter the land now! If you try, your enemies will defeat you, because Yahweh will not ◄be with/help► you.

³² And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.

³² But as for you, your dead bodies will be stretched in this waste land.

³³ And your children will be wanderers in the waste land for forty years, undergoing punishment for your false ways, till your bodies become dust in the waste land.

³⁴ And as you went through the land viewing it for forty days, so for forty years, a year for every day, you will undergo punishment for your wrongdoing, and you will see that I am against you.

³⁵ I the Lord have said it, and this I will certainly do to all this evil people who have come together against me: in this waste land destruction will come on them, and death will be their fate.

³⁶ And the men whom Moses sent to see the land, and who, by the bad account they gave of the land, were the cause of the outcry the people made against Moses,

³⁷ Those same men who said evil of the land, came to their death by disease before the Lord.

³⁸ But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, of those who went to see the land, were not touched by disease.

³⁹ And when Moses put these words before the children of Israel, the people were full of grief.

⁴⁰ And early in the morning they got up and went to the top of the mountain, saying, We are here and we will go up to the place which the Lord said he would give us: for we have done wrong.

⁴¹ And Moses said, Why are you now acting against the Lord's order, seeing that no good will come of it?

⁴² Go not up, for the Lord is not with you, and you will be overcome by those who are fighting against you.

³² And as to you, your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye have searched out the land, forty days, each day for a year shall ye bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know mine estrangement from you.

³⁵ I Jehovah have spoken; I will surely do it unto all this evil assembly which have gathered together against me! in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁶ And the men whom Moses had sent to search out the land, who returned, and made the whole assembly to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report upon the land,

³⁷ even those men who had brought up an evil report upon the land, died by a plague before Jehovah.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, lived still of the men that had gone to search out the land.

³⁹ And Moses told all these sayings to all the children of Israel; then the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning, and went up to the hill-top, saying, Here are we, and we will go up to the place of which Jehovah has spoken; for we have sinned.

⁴¹ And Moses said, Why now do ye transgress the commandment of Jehovah? but it shall not prosper!

⁴² Go not up, for Jehovah is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies;

³² Your carcasses shall lie in the wilderness.

³³ Your children shall wander in the desert forty years, and shall bear your fornication, until the carcasses of their fathers be consumed ill the desert,

³⁴ According to the number of the forty days, wherein you viewed the land: year shall be counted for a day. And forty years you shall receive your iniquities, and shall know my revenge:

³⁵ For as I have spoken, so will I do to all this wicked multitude, that hath risen up together against me: in this wilderness shall it faint away and die.

³⁶ Therefore all the men, whom Moses had sent to view the land, and who at their return had made the whole multitude to murmur against him, speaking ill of the land that it was naught,

³⁷ Died and were struck in the sight of the Lord.

³⁸ But Josue. the son of Nun. and Caleb the son of Jephone lived, of all them that had gone to view the land.

³⁹ And Moses spoke all these words to all the children of Israel, and the people mourned exceedingly.

⁴⁰ And behold rising up very early in the morning, they went up to the top of the mountain, and said: We are ready to go up to the place, of which the Lord hath spoken: for we have sinned.

⁴¹ And Moses said to them: Why transgress you the word of the Lord, which shall not succeed prosperously with you?

⁴² Go not up, for the Lord is not with you: lest you fall before your enemies.

³² But you—you are all going to die in this desert.

³³ Your children will wander in the desert for forty years, suffering because of your lack of trust until all your bodies lie buried in the desert.

³⁴ Just as you explored the country for forty days, so shall your punishment for your sins be forty years, a year for every day, and you will see what happens when I oppose you.

³⁵ I, the Lord, have spoken! Just see if I won't do this to all these wicked Israelites who have got together to oppose me! They will end their lives in the desert—they will die there.’”

³⁶ The men that Moses had sent to explore the country—those who came back and because they gave a bad report they made all the Israelites complain against the Lord—

³⁷ those men who gave the bad report died before the Lord from plague.

³⁸ The only ones who lived were Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh of those who went to explore the country.

³⁹ When Moses told the Israelites what the Lord had said they were very, very sad.

⁴⁰ They got up early the next morning planning to go into the hill country. “Yes we really did sin,” they said, “but now we're here and we'll go where the Lord told us.”

⁴¹ But Moses objected. “Why are you disobeying the Lord's command? You won't succeed in your plan!

⁴² Don't try and go, otherwise you will be killed by your enemies, because the Lord isn't with you.

³² But euen your carkeises shall fall in this wildernes,

³³ And your children shall wander in the wildernesse, fourtie yeeres, and shall beare your whoredomes, vntill your carkeises be wasted in the wildernesse.

³⁴ After the number of the dayes, in the which ye searched out the lande, euen fourtie dayes, euery day for a yeere, shall ye beare your iniquity, for fourtie yeeres, and ye shall feele my breach of promise.

³⁵ I the Lord haue said, Certainely I will doe so to all this wicked company, that are gathered together against me: for in this wildernesse they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁶ And the men which Moses had sent to search the land (which, when they came againe, made all the people to murmure against him, and brought vp a slander vpon the lande)

³⁷ Euen those men that did bring vp that vile slander vpon the land, shall die by a plague before the Lord.

³⁸ But Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, of those men that went to search the land, shall liue.

³⁹ Then Moses tolde these sayings vnto all the children of Israel, and the people sorowed greatly.

⁴⁰ And they rose vp earely in the morning, and gate them vp into the toppe of the mountaine, saying, Loe, we be readie, to goe vp to the place which the Lord hath promised: for wee haue sinned.

⁴¹ But Moses said, Wherefore transgresse yee thus the commandement of the Lord? it will not so come well to passe.

⁴² Goe not vp (for the Lord is not among you) lest ye be ouerthrowe before your enemies.

³² But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your strayings, until your carcasses be consumed in the wilderness.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know My displeasure.

³⁵ I the LORD have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against Me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.'

³⁶ And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who, when they returned, made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

³⁶ And the men whom Moses had sent to spy out the land, and who returned, and caused all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

³⁷ Even these men, that had brought up the evil report of the land, died by the plague before the Lord.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Yephunneh, remained alive of those men, who had gone to spy out the land.

⁴¹ And Moses said, Why do ye transgress the word of the Lord? ye shall not prosper.

⁴² Go not up, for the Lord is not with you; so shall ye fall before the face of your enemies.

³² But your carcases shall fall in this wilderness;

³³ And your children shall go about in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your iniquities until your carcases be laid in the wilderness.

³⁴ According to the number of the days in which you explored the land, forty days, a day for a year, a day for a year, you shall receive for your sins, even forty years, and you shall know (the consequence of) your murmuring against me.

³⁵ I, the Lord, have made the decree in My Word, if I will not do unto all this evil congregation who have gathered together against Me; in this wilderness shall they find their end, and here shall they die.

³⁶ And the men whom Mosheh sent to search the land, and who returned to make all the congregation murmur against him, by bringing forth an evil name upon the land;

³⁷ Those men who brought out the evil name upon the land died by the plague before the Lord.

³⁸ But Jehoshua bar Nun and Kaleb bar Jephuneh lived, of those men who went to explore the land.

³⁹ And Mosheh told these words to all the children of Israel, and the people bewailed greatly.

⁴⁰ And they arose in the morning to go up to the top of the mountain, saying: Behold, we will go up to the place of which the Lord hath spoken; for we have sinned.

⁴¹ But Mosheh said, Wherefore do you transgress against the decree of the Word of the Lord? But it will not prosper.

⁴² Go not up, for the Shekinah of the Lord is not among you, and be not broken before your enemies.

³² But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’

³⁵ I, Adonai , have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”

³⁶ The men, whom Moses Drawn out sent to spy out the land, who teshuvah ·completely returned·, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,

³⁷ even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Adonai .

³⁸ But Joshua Salvation Yah the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.

³⁹ Moses Drawn out told these words to all the children of Israel God prevails, and the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰ They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Adonai has promised: for we have sinned.”

⁴¹ Moses Drawn out said, “Why are you disobeying the order of Adonai ? You shall not succeed!

⁴² Don’t go up, for Adonai is not among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.

³² As for you, your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness.

³³ Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for forty years. They must bear the consequences of your acts of rebellion until the end of your corpses in the wilderness.

³⁴ Just as the number of the days during which you examined the land—forty days, you must likewise bear the consequences of your sins for forty years—one year for every day, and you must know what it is like for me to oppose you.

³⁵ I, Yahweh, have spoken. I will certainly do this to all this evil community that is gathered together against me. They will be completely cut off, and here they will die.'”

³⁶ So the men Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made the entire community grumble against Moses by spreading a bad report about the land—

³⁷ these men who had brought out a bad report about the land were struck down, and they died of a plague before Yahweh.

³⁸ Of those men who had gone to spy out the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive.

³⁹ When Moses reported these words to all the people of Israel, they mourned very deeply.

⁴⁰ They rose up early in the morning and went to the top of the mountain and said, “Look, we are here, and we will go to the place that Yahweh has promised, for we have sinned.”

⁴¹ But Moses said, “Why are you now violating Yahweh's command? You will not succeed.

⁴² Do not go, because Yahweh is not with you to prevent you from being defeated by your enemies.

³² But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

³³ Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.

³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days (each day for a year) shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

³⁵ I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, that are gathered against me: in this wilderness, they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁶ And the men whom Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing a slander upon the land,

³⁷ Even those men that brought the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of the men that went to search the land, lived still .

³⁹ And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and ascended to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here , and will go up to the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

³⁴ by the number of forty days, in which ye beheld the land; a year shall be reckoned for a day, and by forty years ye shall receive your wickedness, or be punished for your grutching, and ye shall know my vengeance.

³⁵ For as I spake, so I shall do to all this worst multitude, that rose together against me; it shall fail, and shall die in this wilderness.

³⁶ Therefore all the men which Moses had sent to see the land, and which turned again, and made all the multitude to grutch against him, and depraved the land,

³⁷ that it was evil, were dead, and smitten in the sight of the Lord.

³⁸ Soothly Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, lived, of all the men, that went to see the land.

³⁹ And Moses spake all these words to all the sons of Israel, and the people mourned greatly.

⁴⁰ And, lo! they rose in the morrow-tide first, and they went up into the top of the hill, and said, We be ready to go up to the place, of which the Lord spake, for we have sinned.

⁴¹ To whom Moses said, Why over-pass ye the word of the Lord, that shall not befall to you into prosperity?

⁴² Do not ye go up, for the Lord is not with you, lest ye fall before your enemies.

³² Forsooth your carrions shall lie in the wilderness; (But your corpses shall lie here in this wilderness;)

³³ your sons shall be walkers-about in the desert by forty years, and they shall bear your fornication, till the carrions of their fathers be wasted in (the) desert, (your sons shall be wanderers in this wilderness for forty years, and they shall bear your punishment, until their fathers’ corpses be wasted in this wilderness,)

³⁴ by the number of forty days, in which ye beheld the land; a year shall be reckoned for a day, and by forty years ye shall receive (the penalty for) your wickedness, or be punished for your grouching, and ye shall know my vengeance. (yea, for the forty days in which ye looked the land over, a year shall be reckoned for a day, and so for forty years ye shall receive the penalty for your wickedness, and shall be punished for your grumbling, and then ye shall know my vengeance.)

³⁵ For as I spake, so I shall do to all this worst multitude, that rose (up) together against me; it shall fail (or they shall fail), and shall die in this wilderness.

³⁶ Therefore all the men which Moses had sent to see the land, and which turned again, and made all the multitude to grouch against him, and depraved the land, (And so all the men whom Moses had sent to look over the land, and returned, and then had made all the multitude to grumble against him, and to despise the land,)

³⁷ that it was evil, were dead, and smitten in the sight of the Lord. (by saying that it was evil, were then struck by the Lord with a pestilence, or a plague, and died.)

³⁸ Soothly (only) Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, lived, of all the men, that went to see the land (or who went to see the land).

³⁹ And Moses spake all these words to all the sons of Israel, and the people mourned greatly. (And Moses spoke all these words to all the Israelites, and the people greatly mourned.)

⁴⁰ And, lo! they rose in the morrowtide first, and they went up into the top of the hill, and said, We be ready to go up to the place, of which the Lord spake, for we have sinned. (And behold! they rose up early the next morning, and left to go up into the heights of the hill country, saying, See, now we be ready to go up to the place, of which the Lord hath spoken, and we confess, that we have sinned.)

⁴¹ To whom Moses said, Why over-pass ye the word of the Lord, that shall not befall to you into prosperity? (To whom Moses said, Why pass ye over the word of the Lord? this shall not befall to you into any prosperity, or any success, but only evil.)

⁴² Do not ye go up, for the Lord is not with you, lest ye fall before your enemies. (Do not ye go up, for the Lord is not with you, and ye shall fall before your enemies.)

³² Forsothe youre careyns schulen ligge in the wildirnesse;

³³ youre sones schulen be walkeris aboute in the deseert bi fourti yeer, and thei schulen bere youre fornycacioun, til the careyns of the fadris ben wastid in the deseert,

³⁴ by the noumbre of fourti daies, in whiche ye bihelden the loond; a yeer schal be arettid for a dai, and bi fourti yeer ye schulen resseyue youre wickidnesse, and ye schulen knowe my veniaunce.

³⁵ For as Y spak, so Y schal do to al this werste multitude, that roos to gidere ayens me; it schal faile, and schal die in this wildirnesse.

³⁶ Therfor alle the men whyche Moises hadde sent to see the lond, and whiche turniden ayen, and maden al the multitude to grutche ayens hym, and depraueden the lond, that it was yuel,

³⁷ weren deed, and smytun in the siyt of the Lord.

³⁸ Sotheli Josue, the sone of Nun, and Caleph, the sone of Jephone, lyueden, of alle men that yeden to se the lond.

³⁹ And Moises spak alle these wordis to alle the sones of Israel, and the puple mourenyde gretli.

⁴⁰ And, lo! thei riseden in the morewtid first, and `stieden in to the cop of the hil, and seiden, We ben redi to stie to the place, of which the Lord spak, for we synneden.

⁴¹ To whiche Moises seide, Whi passen ye the word of the Lord, that schal not bifalle to you in to prosperite?

⁴² Nyle ye stie, for the Lord is not with you, lest ye fallen bifor youre enemyes.

³² as to you — your carcases do fall in this wilderness,

³³ and your sons are evil in the wilderness forty years, and have borne your whoredoms till your carcases are consumed in the wilderness;

³⁴ by the number of the days in which ye spied the land, forty days, — a day for a year, a day for a year — ye do bear your iniquities, forty years, and ye have known my breaking off;

³⁵ I am Jehovah, I have spoken; if I do not this to all this evil company who are meeting against me; — in this wilderness they are consumed, and there they die.'

³⁶ And the men whom Moses hath sent to spy the land, and they turn back and cause all the company to murmur against him, by bringing out an evil account concerning the land,

³⁷ even the men bringing out an evil account of the land die by the plague before Jehovah;

³⁸ and Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh, have lived of those men who go to spy out the land.

³⁹ And Moses speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, and the people mourn exceedingly,

⁴⁰ and they rise early in the morning, and go up unto the top of the mountain, saying, 'Here we are, and we have come up unto the place which Jehovah hath spoken of, for we have sinned.'

⁴¹ And Moses saith, 'Why is this? — ye are transgressing the command of Jehovah, and it doth not prosper;

⁴² go not up, for Jehovah is not in your midst, and ye are not smitten before your enemies;
