Numbers 14:15-19 in English

¹⁵ Now if thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, I pray thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I pray thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy lovingkindness, and according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁵ And if thou shalt destroy this nation as one man; then all the nations that have heard thy name shall speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which he sware to them, he has overthrown them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, O Lord, let thy strength be exalted, as thou spakest, saying,

¹⁸ The Lord is long-suffering and merciful, and true, removing transgressions and iniquities and sins, and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ Forgive this people their sin according to thy great mercy, as thou wast favourable to them from Egypt until now.

¹⁵ Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

¹⁸ The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁹ Pardon, I pray thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁵ If you kill these people all at one time, the people-groups who have heard about your power will say,

¹⁶ ‘Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land that he promised to give to them, so he killed them in the desert.’

¹⁷ So Yahweh, now show that you are very powerful. You said,

¹⁸ ‘I do not quickly become angry; instead, I love people very much, and I forgive people for having sinned and having disobeyed my laws. But I will always punish LIT people who are guilty of doing what is wrong. When parents sin, I will punish them, but I will also punish their children and their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren and their great-great-grandchildren.’

¹⁹ So, because you love people like that, forgive these people for the sins that they have committed, just like you have continued to forgive them ever since they left Egypt.”

¹⁵ And if you shall destroy this nation as one man; then all the nations that have heard your name shall speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which he sware to them, he has overthrown them in the wilderness.

¹⁸ ‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁷ Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

¹⁸ ‘The LORD is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you put to death all this people as one man, then the nations who have had word of your glory will say,

¹⁶ Because the Lord was not able to take this people into the land which he made an oath to give them, he sent destruction on them in the waste land.

¹⁷ So now, may my prayer come before you, and let the power of the Lord be great, as you said:

¹⁸ The Lord is slow to wrath and great in mercy, overlooking wrongdoing and evil, and will not let wrongdoers go free; sending punishment on children for the sins of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ May the sin of this people have forgiveness, in the measure of your great mercy, as you have had mercy on them from Egypt up till now.

¹⁵ if thou now slayest this people as one man, then the nations that have heard thy fame will speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land that he had sworn unto them, he has therefore slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in goodness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy loving-kindness, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁵ May hear that thou hast killed so great a multitude as it were one man and may say:

¹⁶ He could not bring the people into the land for which he had sworn, therefore did he kill them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ Let their the strength of the Lord be magnified, as thou hast sworn, saying:

¹⁸ The Lord is patient and full of mercy, taking away iniquity and wickedness, and leaving no man clear, who visitest the sins of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ Forgive, I beseech thee, the sins of this people, according to the greatness of thy mercy, as thou hast been merciful to them from their going out of Egypt unto this place.

¹⁵ If you kill all these people in one go, the nations who have heard about you will say,

¹⁶ ‘The Lord killed these people in the desert because he wasn't able to take them to the country he promised to give them. He's killed them all in desert!’

¹⁷ Now, Lord, please demonstrate the extent of your power just as you have said:

¹⁸ The Lord is slow to become angry and is full of trustworthy love, forgiving sin and rebellion. However, he will not allow the guilty to go unpunished, bringing the consequences of the parents' sin on their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of these people since your trustworthy love is so great, in the same way that you have forgiven them from the time they left Egypt until now.”

¹⁵ That thou wilt kill this people as one man: so the heathen which haue heard the fame of thee, shall thus say,

¹⁶ Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the lande, which he sware vnto them, therefore hath he slaine them in the wildernesse.

¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

¹⁸ The Lord is slowe to anger, and of great mercie, and forgiuing iniquitie, and sinne, but not making the wicked innocent, and visiting the wickednes of the fathers vpon the children, in the thirde and fourth generation:

¹⁹ Be mercifull, I beseech thee, vnto the iniquitie of this people, according to thy great mercie, and as thou hast forgiuen this people from Egypt, euen vntill nowe.

¹⁵ now if Thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of Thee will speak, saying:

¹⁶ Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which He swore unto them, therefore He hath slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, I pray Thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as Thou hast spoken, saying:

¹⁸ The LORD is slow to anger, and plenteous in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, and according as Thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.'

¹⁵ Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

¹⁵ That thou hast killed this people as one man: then will the nations that have heard thy fame, say in this manner,

¹⁶ That because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he had sworn unto them, hath he slain them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the greatness of the power of the Lord be made manifest, as thou hast spoken, saying,

¹⁸ The Eternal is long-suffering, and abundant in beneficence, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of thy beneficence, and as thou hast been indulgent to this people, from Egypt even until hitherto.

¹⁵ And if thou shalt destroy this nation as one man; then all the nations that have heard thy name shall speak, saying,

¹⁶ Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which he swore to them, he has overthrown them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ And now, O Lord, let thy strength be exalted, as thou spokest, saying,

¹⁸ The Lord is long-suffering and merciful, and true, removing transgressions and iniquities and sins, and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

¹⁹ Forgive this people their sin according to thy great mercy, as thou wast favorable to them from Egypt until now.

¹⁵ Now if Thou shalt kill this people as one man, the nations who have heard the fame of Thy power will speak, saying:

¹⁶ Because there was not strength (enough) before the Lord to bring this people into the land which He covenanted to them, He hath killed them in the desert.

¹⁷ And now I beseech, let power be magnified from before the Lord, as Thou hast thus spoken, saying:

¹⁸ The Lord is far from anger, and great in performing goodness and truth: forgiving iniquity and rebellion and sins, pardoning them who return unto His law: but acquitting not them who will not, turn, (but) visiting the sins of the fathers upon the rebellious children unto the third and unto the fourth generation.

¹⁹ Pardon, I beseech, the sins of this people according to the amplitude of Thy goodness, and as Thou hast forgiven this people from Mizraim until now.

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because Adonai was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁷ Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

¹⁸ ‘Adonai is slow to anger, and abundant in cheshed ·loving-kindness·, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your cheshed ·loving-kindness·, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt Abode of slavery even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you kill this people as one man, then the nations that have heard of your fame will speak and say,

¹⁶ 'Because Yahweh could not take this people into the land that he swore to give them, he has killed them in the wilderness.'

¹⁷ Now, I beg you, use your great power. For you have said,

¹⁸ 'Yahweh is slow to anger and abundant in covenant faithfulness. He forgives iniquity and transgression. He will by no means clear the guilty when he brings the punishment of the ancestors' sin on their descendants, to the third and fourth generation.'

¹⁹ Pardon, I plead with you, this people's sin because of the greatness of your covenant faithfulness, just as you have always forgiven this people from the time they were in Egypt until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁷ Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

¹⁸ ‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁷ Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

¹⁸ ‘The LORD is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

¹⁶ ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁹ Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

¹⁵ that thou hast slain so great a multitude as one man, and say,

¹⁹ I beseech thee, forgive thou the sin of this thy people, after the greatness of thy mercy, as thou were merciful to them going out of Egypt till to this place.

¹⁵ that thou hast slain so great a multitude as (if they be just) one man, and (then they shall) say,

¹⁶ He might not bring this people into the land for which he swore to give to them, therefore he killed them in (the) wilderness; (Because he could not bring these people into the land which he had sworn to give them, and so he killed all of them in this wilderness;)

¹⁷ therefore (let) the strength of the Lord be magnified, or made great, as thou hast sworn, (saying of thyself),

¹⁸ The Lord (is) patient, and of much mercy, doing away wickedness and trespasses, and leaving no man unguilty, (or innocent), which visitest the sins of (the) fathers into (the) sons into the third and fourth generation (or and who visitest the sins of the fathers upon the children into the third and fourth generations),

¹⁹ (so) I beseech thee, forgive thou the sin of this thy people, after the greatness of thy mercy, as thou were merciful to them going out of Egypt till to this place.

¹⁵ and in a piler of fier bi nyyt, that thou hast slayn so greet a multitude as o man,

¹⁶ and seie thei, He myyte not brynge this puple in to the lond for whiche he swoor, therfor he killide hem in wildirnesse;

¹⁷ therfor the strengthe of the Lord be magnified, as thou hast swore. And Moises seide,

¹⁸ Lord pacient, and of myche mercy, doynge awei wickidnesse and trespassis, and leeuynge no man vngilti, which visitist the synnes of fadris in to sones in to the thridde and fourthe generacioun, Y biseche,

¹⁹ foryyue thou the synne of this thi puple, aftir the greetnesse of thi merci, as thou were merciful to men goynge out of Egipt `til to this place.

¹⁵ 'And Thou hast put to death this people as one man, and the nations who have heard Thy fame have spoken, saying,

¹⁶ From Jehovah's want of ability to bring in this people unto the land which He hath sworn to them — He doth slaughter them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ 'And now, let, I pray Thee, the power of my Lord be great, as Thou hast spoken, saying:

¹⁸ Jehovah is slow to anger, and of great kindness; bearing away iniquity and transgression, and not entirely acquitting, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on a third generation, and on a fourth; —

¹⁹ forgive, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of Thy kindness, and as Thou hast borne with this people from Egypt, even until now.'
