¹ And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

² And they said, Hath Jehovah indeed spoken only with Moses? hath he not spoken also with us? And Jehovah heard it.

³ Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men that were upon the face of the earth.

⁴ And Jehovah spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting. And they three came out.

⁵ And Jehovah came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.

⁶ And he said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I Jehovah will make myself known unto him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream.

⁷ My servant Moses is not so; he is faithful in all my house:

⁸ with him will I speak mouth to mouth, even manifestly, and not in dark speeches; and the form of Jehovah shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?

⁹ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against them; and he departed.

¹⁰ And the cloud removed from over the Tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ And Aaron said unto Moses, Oh, my lord, lay not, I pray thee, sin upon us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned.

¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.

¹³ And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, Heal her, O God, I beseech thee.

¹⁴ And Jehovah said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.

¹⁵ And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

¹ And Mariam and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of the Ethiopian woman whom Moses took; for he had taken an Ethiopian woman.

³ And the man Moses was very meek beyond all the men that were upon the earth.

⁴ And the Lord said immediately to Moses and Aaron and Mariam, Come forth all three of you to the tabernacle of witness.

⁵ And the three came forth to the tabernacle of witness; and the Lord descended in a pillar of a cloud, and stood at the door of the tabernacle of witness; and Aaron and Mariam were called; and both came forth.

⁶ And he said to them, Hear my words: If there should be of you a prophet to the Lord, I will be made known to him in a vision, and in sleep will I speak to him.

⁷ My servant Moses is not so; he is faithful in all my house.

⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth apparently, and not in dark speeches; and he has seen the glory of the Lord; and why were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

⁹ And the great anger of the Lord was upon them, and he departed.

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from the tabernacle; and, behold, Mariam was leprous, white as snow; and Aaron looked upon Mariam, and, behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ And Aaron said to Moses, I beseech thee, my lord, do not lay sin upon us, for we were ignorant wherein we sinned.

¹² Let her not be as it were like death, as an abortion coming out of his mother's womb, when the disease devours the half of the flesh.

¹³ And Moses cried to the Lord, saying, O God, I beseech thee, heal her.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had only spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? let her be set apart seven days without the camp, and afterwards she shall come in.

¹⁵ And Mariam was separated without the camp seven days; and the people moved not forward till Mariam was cleansed.

¹ And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

¹ Moses'/My older sister Miriam and his/my older brother Aaron were saying this: “Is Moses the only one to whom Yahweh has spoken messages to tell to us RHQ? Does Yahweh not speak messages to us two also?” They told people that they were saying that because Moses/I had married a woman who was a descendant of the Cush people-group, but they were really saying that because they ◄were jealous/did not want Moses/me to be the only leader of the Israeli people►. But Yahweh heard what they were saying.

³ The truth was that Moses/I was very humble. He/I was more humble than anyone else on the earth and Moses/I had not appointed himself/myself to be their leader.

⁴ So immediately Yahweh spoke to Moses/me and to Aaron and Miriam. He said, “All three of you must go and stand at the Sacred Tent.” So they/we did that.

⁵ Then Yahweh descended to the entrance of the tent in a cloud that resembled a huge white pillar. He told Aaron and Miriam to step forward, so they did.

⁶ Then he said to them, “Listen to me! When a prophet is among you, I usually reveal myself to him by allowing him to see visions, and I speak to him in dreams.

⁷ But that is not the way I speak to my servant Moses. I trust that he will lead my people well.

⁸ So I talk to him face-to-face. I speak to him ◄clearly/using words that he will understand easily►, not using parables. He has even seen what I look like. So you should be afraid to criticize my servant Moses!”

⁹ Yahweh was very angry with Miriam and Aaron, and he left.

¹⁰ When the cloud rose up from the Sacred Tent, Aaron looked at Miriam, and he saw that her skin was as white as snow, because she now had leprosy.

¹¹ Aaron said to Moses/me, “My master, please do not punish us for this sin that we have foolishly committed.

¹² Do not allow Miriam to be like a baby that is already dead when it is born, whose flesh is already half decayed!”

¹³ So Moses/I cried out to Yahweh, saying, “God, I plead with you to heal her!”

¹⁴ But Yahweh replied, “If her father had rebuked her for doing something wrong by spitting in her face, she would have been ashamed for seven days. She should be ashamed because of what she has done. So send her outside the camp for seven days. Then she will not have leprosy anymore, and she may return to the camp.”

¹⁵ So they sent her outside the camp for seven days. ◄The people/We► did not move to another location until she returned.

¹¹ Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, please don’t count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned.

¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.”

¹³ Moses cried to the LORD, saying, “Heal her, God, I beg you!”

¹ Now Miriam and Aaron said evil against Moses, because of the Cushite woman to whom he was married, for he had taken a Cushite woman as his wife.

² And they said, Have the words of the Lord been given to Moses only? have they not come to us? And the Lord took note of it.

³ Now the man Moses was more gentle than any other man on earth.

⁴ And suddenly the Lord said to Moses and Aaron and Miriam, Come out, you three, to the Tent of meeting. And the three of them went out.

⁵ And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, taking his place at the door of the Tent, and made Aaron and Miriam come before him.

⁶ And he said, Now give ear to my words: if there is a prophet among you I will give him knowledge of myself in a vision and will let my words come to him in a dream.

⁷ My servant Moses is not so; he is true to me in all my house:

⁸ With him I will have talk mouth to mouth, openly and not in dark sayings; and with his eyes he will see the form of the Lord: why then had you no fear of saying evil against my servant Moses?

⁹ And burning with wrath against them, the Lord went away.

¹⁰ And the cloud was moved from over the Tent; and straight away Miriam became a leper, as white as snow: and Aaron, looking at Miriam, saw that she was a leper.

¹¹ Then Aaron said to Moses, O my lord, let not our sin be on our heads, for we have done foolishly and are sinners.

¹² Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half wasted when he comes out from the body of his mother.

¹³ And Moses, crying to the Lord, said, Let my prayer come before you, O God, and make her well.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had put a mark of shame on her, would she not be shamed for seven days? Let her be shut up outside the tent-circle for seven days, and after that she may come in again.

¹⁵ So Miriam was shut up outside the tent-circle for seven days: and the people did not go forward on their journey till Miriam had come in again.

¹ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had taken; for he had taken a Cushite as wife.

¹⁰ and the cloud departed from off the tent. And behold, Miriam was leprous as snow; and Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ Then Aaron said to Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not this sin upon us, wherein we have been foolish, and have sinned!

¹² Let her not be as one stillborn, half of whose flesh is consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb.

¹³ And Moses cried to Jehovah, saying, O God, heal her, I beseech thee!

¹⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, But had her father anyways spat in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? She shall be shut outside the camp seven days, and afterwards she shall be received in again.

¹⁵ And Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days; and the people did not journey till Miriam was received in again.

¹ And Mary and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of his wife the Ethiopian,

² And they said: Hath the Lord spoken by Moses only? hath he not also spoken to us in like manner? And when the Lord heard this,

³ (For Moses was a man exceeding meek above all men that dwelt upon earth)

⁴ Immediately he spoke to him, and to Aaron and Mary: Come out you three only to the tabernacle of the covenant. And when they were come out,

⁵ The Lord came down in a pillar of the cloud, and stood in the entry of the tabernacle calling to Aaron and Mary. And when they were come,

⁶ He said to them: Hear my words: if there be among you a prophet of the Lord, I will appear to him in a vision, or I will speak to him in a dream.

⁷ But it is not so with my servant Moses a who is most faithful in all my house:

⁸ For I speak to him mouth to mouth: and plainly, and not by riddles and figures doth he see the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak ill of my servant Moses?

⁹ And being angry with them he went away:

¹⁰ The cloud also that was over the tabernacle departed: and behold Mary appeared white as snow with a leprosy. And when Aaron had looked on her, and saw her all covered with leprosy,

¹¹ He said to Moses: I beseech thee, my lord, lay not upon us this sin, which we have foolishly committed:

¹² Let her not be as one dead, and as an abortive that is cast forth from the mother’s womb. Lo, now one half of her flesh is consumed with the leprosy.

¹³ And Moses cried to the Lord, saying: O God, I beseech thee heal her.

¹⁴ And the Lord answered him: If her father had spitten upon her face, ought she not to have been ashamed for seven days at least? Let her be separated seven days without the camp, and after wards she shall be called again.

¹⁵ Mary therefore was put out of the camp seven days: and the people moved not from that place until Mary was called again.

¹ Miriam and Aaron were critical of Moses because of his Ethiopian wife—he'd married an Ethiopian woman.

² “Is it only through Moses that the Lord speaks?” they asked. “Doesn't he speak through us too?” The Lord heard all this.

³ Moses was a very humble man, more than anyone else on earth.

⁴ All of a sudden the Lord called for Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, telling them, “The three of you, come to the Tent of Meeting.” The three of them did so.

⁵ The Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood in the entrance to the Tent. He called Aaron and Miriam and they came forward.

⁶ “Now listen to my words, he told them. If you had prophets, I the Lord would reveal myself to them in visions; I would communicate with them in dreams.

⁷ But it's not like this with my servant Moses, who of all my people is the one who is faithful.

⁸ I talk to him personally, face to face. I speak plainly, not in riddles. He sees the likeness of the Lord. So why weren't you afraid when you criticized my servant Moses?”

⁹ The Lord was angry with them, and he left.

¹⁰ As the cloud rose above the Tent, Miriam's skin suddenly turned white with leprosy. Aaron turned to look and saw that she had leprosy.

¹¹ He said to Moses, “My lord, please don't punish us for this sin that we've so stupidly committed.

¹² Please don't let her become like a stillborn baby whose flesh is already decaying when they're born!”

¹³ Moses called out to the Lord, “God, please heal her!”

¹⁴ But the Lord replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face wouldn't she have been disgraced for seven days? Keep her in isolation outside the camp for seven days, and then she can be taken back in.”

¹⁵ Miriam was kept in isolation outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until she was taken back in.

¹ Afterward Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses, because of the woman of Ethiopia whome hee had maried (for hee had married a woman of Ethiopia)

² And they saide, What? hath the Lord spoken but onely by Moses? hath he not spoken also by vs? and the Lord heard this.

³ (But Moses was a verie meeke man, aboue all the men that were vpon the earth)

⁴ And by and by the Lord sayd vnto Moses, and vnto Aaron, and vnto Miriam, come out yee three vnto the Tabernacle of the Congregation: and they three came forth.

⁵ Then the Lord came downe in the pillar of the cloude, and stoode in the doore of the Tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forth.

⁶ And hee saide, Heare nowe my wordes, If there be a Prophet of the Lord among you, I will be knowen to him by a vision, and will speake vnto him by dreame.

⁷ My seruant Moses is not so, who is faithfull in all mine house.

⁸ Vnto him will I speake mouth to mouth, and by vision, and not in darke wordes, but hee shall see the similitude of the Lord. Wherefore then were ye not afraid to speake against my seruant, euen against Moses?

⁹ Thus the Lord was very angrie with them, and departed.

¹⁰ Also the cloude departed from the Tabernacle: and beholde, Miriam was leprous like snowe: and Aaron looked vpon Miriam, and beholde, she was leprous.

¹¹ Then Aaron saide vnto Moses, Alas, my Lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sinne vpon vs, which we haue foolishly committed and wherein we haue sinned.

¹² Let her not, I pray thee, be as one dead, of whome the flesh is halfe consumed, when he commeth out of his mothers wombe.

¹³ Then Moses cryed vnto the Lord, saying, O God, I beseech thee, heale her nowe.

¹⁴ And the Lord said vnto Moses, If her father had spit in her face, shoulde she not haue bene ashamed seuen dayes? let her be shut out of the hoste seuen dayes, and after she shall bee receiued.

¹⁵ So Miriam was shut out of the hoste seuen dayes, and the people remooued not, till Miriam was brought in againe.

¹ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

¹² Let her not be as a dead-born child, of which half the flesh is consumed, when it cometh out of its mother's womb.

¹³ And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, O God! do thou heal her, I beseech thee.

¹⁴ And the Lord said unto Moses, If her father had spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up seven days outside of the camp, and after that let her be brought in again.

⁶ And he said to them, Hear my words: If there should be of you a prophet to the Lord, I will be made known to him in a vision, and in sleep will I speak to him.

⁷ My servant Moses is not so; he is faithful in all my house.

⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth apparently, and not in dark speeches; and he has seen the glory of the Lord; and why were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

⁹ And the great anger of the Lord was upon them, and he departed.

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, white as snow; and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ And Aaron said to Moses, I beseech thee, my lord, do not lay sin upon us, for we were ignorant wherein we sinned.

¹² Let her not be as it were like death, as an abortion coming out of his mother’s womb, when the disease devours the half of the flesh.

¹³ And Moses cried to the Lord, saying, O God, I beseech thee, heal her.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had only spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? let her be set apart seven days without the camp, and afterward she shall come in.

¹⁵ And Miriam was separated without the camp seven days; and the people moved not forward till Miriam was cleansed.

¹ And Miriam and Aharon spake against Mosheh, because of the fair woman whom he had taken, because the fair woman who had been sent away he had taken.

² And they said, Hath the Lord spoken only with Mosheh? Hath He not spoken with us also? And it was heard before the Lord.

⁷ But not so (with) My servant Mosheh; over all My house faithful is he.

⁸ Speaker with speaker will I speak with him; in apparition, and not in similitudes; and he shall behold the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And how is this, that you have not been afraid to speak against My servant, against Mosheh?

⁹ And the displeasure of the Lord was strong against them, and He went up.

¹⁰ And the Cloud went up from over the tabernacle. And, behold, Miriam was white as snow; and Aharon looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ And Aharon said to Mosheh, My lord, I entreat that thou wouldst not lay this sin upon us, in that we have acted foolishly, and have transgressed.

¹² Let not this one, I entreat, be separated from among us, for she is our sister. Pray, now, over this dead flesh which is in her, that she may be healed.

¹³ And Mosheh prayed before the Lord, saying: O God, I beseech Thee, heal her now.

¹⁴ But the Lord said to Mosheh, If her father, correcting, had corrected her, ought she not to have been ashamed seven days? Let her be shut up seven days without the camp, and afterward be admitted.

¹⁵ And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days; and the people journeyed not until Miriam was brought in.

¹ Miriam and Aaron Light-bringer spoke against Moses Drawn out because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

² They said, “Has Adonai indeed spoken only with Moses Drawn out? Has not he spoken also with us?” And Adonai sh'ma ·heard obeyed· it.

³ Now the man Moses Drawn out was very humble, more than all the men who were on the surface of the earth.

⁴ Adonai spoke suddenly to Moses Drawn out, to Aaron Light-bringer, and to Miriam, “You three come out to the Tent of Meeting!” The three of them came out.

⁵ Adonai came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron Light-bringer and Miriam; and they both came forward.

⁴ Right away Yahweh spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: “Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting.” So the three of them went out.

⁶ Yahweh said, “Now listen to my words. When a prophet of mine is with you, I will reveal myself to him in visions and speak to him in dreams.

⁸ I speak to Moses directly, not with visions or riddles. He sees my form. So why are you unafraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?”

⁹ Yahweh's anger burned against them, and then he left them.

¹¹ Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my master, please do not hold this sin against us. We have spoken foolishly, and we have sinned.

¹² Please do not let her be like a dead newborn whose flesh is half consumed when it emerges from its mother's womb.”

¹³ So Moses called out to Yahweh. He said, “Please heal her, God, please.”

¹⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face, she would be disgraced for seven days. Shut her outside the camp for seven days. After that bring her in again.”

¹⁰ The cloud departed from over the Tent; and behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. Aaron looked at Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.

¹¹ Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, please don’t count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned.

¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.”

¹³ Moses cried to the LORD, saying, “Heal her, God, I beg you!”

¹⁴ The LORD said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn’t she be ashamed seven days? Let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.”

¹⁵ Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days, and the people didn’t travel until Miriam was brought in again.

¹ And Marie spake and Aaron against Moses, for his wife a woman of Ethiopia,

² and they said, Whether God spake his will only by Moses? whether he spake not also to us in like manner? And when the Lord had heard this, he was wroth greatly;

³ for Moses was the mildest man, over all men that dwelled in earth.

⁴ And suddenly the Lord spake to Moses and to Aaron and to Marie, Go out ye three alone to the tabernacle of the bond of peace. And when they were gone in,

⁵ the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and he stood in the entering of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Marie. And when they had gone forth,

⁶ he said to them, Hear ye my words; if any among you is a prophet of the Lord, I shall appear to him in revelation, either I shall speak to him by a dream.

⁷ And he said, And my servant Moses is not such, the which is most faithful in all mine house;

⁸ for I speak to him mouth to mouth, and he seeth God openly, and not by dark speeches, either dark likenesses, and figures. Why therefore dreaded ye not to backbite my servant Moses?

⁹ And the Lord was wroth against them, and he went away.

¹⁰ And the cloud went away, that was on the tabernacle, and lo! Marie appeared shining with leprosy, white as snow. And when Aaron beheld her, and saw her besprinkled with leprosy,

¹¹ he said to Moses, My lord, I beseech thee, put thou not this sin upon us, which we did follily,

¹² that this woman be not made as dead, and as a dead-born thing that is cast out of the mother’s womb; lo! now the half of her flesh is devoured, or over-covered, with leprosy.

¹³ And Moses cried to the Lord, and said, Lord, I beseech thee, heal thou her.

¹⁴ To whom the Lord answered, If her father had spit into her face, whether she ought not to be full-filled with shame, namely seven days? Therefore be she separated out of the tents by seven days, and afterward she shall be called again.

¹⁵ And so Marie was excluded or put out of the tents by seven days; and the people was not moved from that place, till Marie was called again.

¹ And Marie spake and Aaron against Moses, for his wife (was) a woman of Ethiopia, (And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, for his wife was an Ethiopian woman,)

² and they said, Whether God spake his will only by Moses? whether he spake not also to us in like manner? And when the Lord had heard this, he was wroth greatly (or he was greatly angered);

³ for Moses was the mildest man, over all men that dwelled in earth. (for Moses was the humblest man, more humble than any other man who lived upon the face of the earth.)

⁴ And suddenly the Lord spake to Moses and to Aaron and to Marie, (and said), Go out ye three alone to the tabernacle of the bond of peace. And when they were gone in, (And suddenly the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and Miriam, and said, Ye three go out alone to the Tabernacle of the Covenant. And when they had gone out to it,)

⁵ the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and he stood in the entering of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Marie. And when they had gone forth, (the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and he stood at the entrance to the Tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And when they had come forth,)

⁶ he said to them, Hear ye my words; if any among you is a prophet of the Lord, I shall appear to him in revelation, either I shall speak to him by a dream.

⁷ And he said, And my servant Moses is not such, the which is most faithful in all mine house; (Then he said, But my servant Moses is not such a prophet, for he alone is most faithful in all my household;)

⁸ for I speak to him mouth to mouth, and he seeth God openly, and not by dark speeches, either dark likenesses, and figures. Why therefore dreaded ye not to backbite my servant Moses? (and I speak with him face to face, and he seeth God openly, and not only through riddles. Yea, he hath even seen my form, or my figure! So why do ye not fear to backbite my servant Moses?)

⁹ And the Lord was wroth against them, and he went away.

¹⁰ And the cloud went away, that was on the tabernacle, and lo! Marie appeared shining with leprosy, (or and behold! Miriam had become leprous), white as snow. And when Aaron beheld her, and saw her besprinkled with leprosy,

¹¹ he said to Moses, My lord, I beseech thee, put thou not this sin upon us, which we did follily (or for we acted foolishly),

¹² (and) that this woman be not made as dead, and as a dead born thing that is cast out of the mother’s womb; lo! now the half of her flesh is devoured, or over-covered, with leprosy, (or behold! now half of her flesh hath been devoured by the leprosy!).

¹³ And Moses cried to the Lord, and said, Lord, I beseech thee, heal thou her.

¹⁴ To whom the Lord answered, If her father had spit into her face, whether she ought not to be full-filled with shame, namely seven days? Therefore be she separated out of the tents by seven days, and afterward she shall be called again, (or And so let her be set apart from the tents for seven days, and then she shall be called back again).

¹⁵ And so Marie was excluded, or put, out of the tents by seven days; and the people was not moved from that place, till Marie was called again. (And so Miriam was sent away from the tents for seven days; and the people did not move from that place, until Miriam was called back again.)

¹ And Marie spak and Aaron ayens Moises, for his wijf a womman of Ethiope,

² and seiden, Whethir God spak oneli by Moises? whethir he spak not also to vs in lijk maner? And whanne the Lord hadde herd this, he was wrooth greetli;

³ for Moises was the myldest man, ouer alle men that dwelliden in erthe.

⁴ And anoon the Lord spak to Moises and to Aaron and to Marye, Go out ye thre aloone to the tabernacle of boond of pees. And whanne thei weren gon yn,

⁵ the Lord cam doun in a piler of cloude, and he stood in the entryng of the tabernacle, and clepide Aaron and Marie.

⁶ And whanne thei hadden go, he seide to hem, Here ye my wordis; if ony among you is a profete of the Lord, Y schal appere to hym in reuelacioun, ethir Y schal speke to hym bi `a dreem.

⁷ And he seide, And my seruaunt Moises is not siche, which is moost feithful in al myn hows;

⁸ for Y speke to hym mouth to mouth, and he seeth God opynli, and not bi derke spechis and figuris. Why therfor dredden ye not to bacbite `ether depraue my seruaunt Moises?

⁹ And the Lord was wrooth ayens hem, and he wente a wei.

¹⁰ And the cloude yede awei, that was on the tabernacle and lo! Marie apperide whijt with lepre as snow. And whanne Aaron biheelde hir, and siy hir bispreynd with lepre,

¹¹ he seide to Moises, My lord, Y beseche, putte thou not this synne on vs,

¹² which we diden folili, that this womman be not maad as deed, and as a deed borun thing which is cast out of the `wombe of his modir; lo! now the half of hir fleisch is deuourid with lepre.

¹³ And Moises criede to the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche, heele thou hir.

¹⁴ To whom the Lord answerid, If hir fadir hadde spet in to hir face, where sche ouyte not to be fillid with schame, nameli in seuene daies? Therfor be sche departid out of the tentis bi seuen daies, and aftirward sche schal be clepid ayen.

¹⁵ And so Marie was excludid out of the tentis bi seuene daies; and the puple was not mouyd fro that place, til Marie was clepid ayen.

¹ And Miriam speaketh — Aaron also — against Moses concerning the circumstance of the Cushite woman whom he had taken: for a Cushite woman he had taken;

² and they say, 'Only by Moses hath Jehovah spoken? also by us hath he not spoken?' and Jehovah heareth.

³ And the man Moses is very humble, more than any of the men who are on the face of the ground.

⁴ And Jehovah saith suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, 'Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting;' and they three come out.

⁵ And Jehovah cometh down in the pillar of the cloud, and standeth at the opening of the tent, and calleth Aaron and Miriam, and they come out both of them.

⁶ And He saith, 'Hear, I pray you, My words: If your prophet is of Jehovah — in an appearance unto him I make Myself known; in a dream I speak with him;

⁷ not so My servant Moses; in all My house he is stedfast;

⁸ mouth unto mouth I speak with him, and by an appearance, and not in riddles; and the form of Jehovah he beholdeth attentively; and wherefore have ye not been afraid to speak against My servant — against Moses?'

⁹ And the anger of Jehovah burneth against them, and He goeth on,

¹⁰ and the cloud hath turned aside from off the tent, and lo, Miriam is leprous as snow; and Aaron turneth unto Miriam, and lo, leprous!

¹¹ And Aaron saith unto Moses, 'O, my lord, I pray thee, lay not upon us sin in which we have been foolish, and in which we have sinned;

¹² let her not, I pray thee, be as one dead, when in his coming out from the womb of his mother — the half of his flesh is consumed.'

¹³ And Moses crieth unto Jehovah, saying, 'O God, I pray Thee, give, I pray Thee, healing to her.'

¹⁴ And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'And her father had but spat in her face — is she not ashamed seven days? she is shut out seven days at the outside of the camp, and afterwards she is gathered.'

¹⁵ And Miriam is shut out at the outside of the camp seven days, and the people hath not journeyed till Miriam is gathered;
