³ and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them.

⁴ And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵ And Peter answereth and saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

⁶ For he knew not what to answer; for they became sore afraid.

⁷ And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him.

⁸ And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

⁹ And as they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, save when the Son of man should have risen again from the dead.

¹⁰ And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead should mean.

¹¹ And they asked him, saying, How is it that the scribes say that Elijah must first come?

¹² And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?

¹³ But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they would, even as it is written of him.

¹⁴ And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them.

¹⁵ And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

¹⁶ And he asked them, What question ye with them?

¹⁷ And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit;

¹⁸ and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able.

¹⁹ And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me.

²⁰ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

²¹ And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child.

²² And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.

²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth.

²⁴ Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶ And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and the boy became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead.

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, How is it that we could not cast it out?

²⁹ And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer.

³⁰ And they went forth from thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

³¹ For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered up into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he shall rise again.

³² But they understood not the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house he asked them, What were ye reasoning on the way?

³⁴ But they held their peace: for they had disputed one with another on the way, who was the greatest.

³⁵ And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.

³⁶ And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them,

³ His clothes became dazzling white. They were whiter than anyone on earth could make them by bleaching them.

⁴ Two prophets who had lived long ago, Moses and Elijah, appeared to them. Then the two of them began talking with Jesus.

⁵ After a short time, Peter interrupted by exclaiming, “Teacher, it is wonderful to be here! So allow us to make three shelters. One will be for you, one will be for Moses, and one will be for Elijah!”

⁶ He said this because he wanted to say something, but he did not know what to say, because he and the other two disciples were very awestruck.

⁷ Then a shining cloud appeared that covered them. God EUP spoke to them from the cloud saying, “This is my Son. I love him. Therefore, listen to him!”

⁸ When the three disciples looked around, they saw that suddenly Jesus was alone with them, and that there was no longer anyone else there.

⁹ While they were coming down the mountain, Jesus told them that they should not tell anyone yet what had just happened to him. He said, “You may tell them after I, the one who came from heaven, ◄rise from the dead/become alive again► after I die.”

¹⁰ So they did not tell others about it for a long time. But they discussed among themselves what it meant when he said that he would ◄rise from the dead/become alive again► after he died.

¹¹ The three disciples had just seen Elijah, but Elijah had not done anything to prepare people to accept Jesus. So they asked Jesus, “The men who teach the Jewish laws say that Elijah must come back to the earth before the Messiah comes to earth. But you have been here a long time and Elijah came just today. So is what they are teaching wrong?”

¹² Jesus wanted them to know that John the Baptizer was the one who represented Elijah. So he answered them, “It is true that God promised to send Elijah to come first so that people would be ready when I came. Elijah's representative has already come, and our leaders treated him very badly, just like they wanted to do, just like it was prophesied { the prophets prophesied} long ago. But, ◄I also want you to consider what is written {what the prophets wrote} in the Scriptures about me, the one who came from heaven./why have you not thought about what is written {what the prophets wrote} about me, the one who came from heaven?► RHQ It is written {They wrote} that I would suffer much and that I would be rejected {that many people would reject me}.”

¹⁴ Jesus and those three disciples returned to where the other disciples were. They saw a large crowd around the other disciples and some men who taught the Jewish laws arguing with them.

¹⁵ As soon as the crowd saw Jesus, they were very surprised to see him come. So they ran to him and greeted him.

¹⁶ He asked them, “What are you arguing about?”

¹⁷ A man in the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son here in order that you would heal him. There is an evil spirit in him that makes him unable to talk.

¹⁸ Whenever the spirit attacks him, it throws him down. He foams at the mouth, he grinds his teeth together, and he becomes stiff. I asked your disciples to expel the spirit, but they were not able to do it.”

¹⁹ Jesus replied by saying to those people, “◄I am very disappointed that although you have observed how I help people, you do not believe that you are able to do anything!/Why is it that although you have observed how I help people, you do not believe that you are able to do anything?► RHQ ◄I have been with you a long time, and you still cannot do what I do!/How long do I have to be with you before you can do what I do?► RHQ Bring the boy to me!”

²⁰ So they brought the boy to Jesus. As soon as the evil spirit saw Jesus, it shook the boy severely, and the boy fell on the ground. He rolled around, and he foamed at the mouth.

²¹ Jesus asked the boy's father, “How long has he been like this?” He replied, “ This started to happen when he was a child.

²² The spirit does not only do this, but he also often throws him into the fire or into the water in order to kill him. But, pity us and help us, if you can!”

²³ Jesus exclaimed to him, “ Do not say RHQ ‘If you can’, for God/I can do anything for people who believe in him/me!”

²⁴ Immediately the child's father shouted, “I believe that you can help me, but I do not believe strongly. Help me to believe more strongly!”

²⁵ Because Jesus wanted to heal the boy before the crowd got bigger, he rebuked the evil spirit, saying, “You evil spirit, you who are causing this boy to be deaf and unable to talk! I command you to come out of him and never enter him again!”

²⁶ The evil spirit shouted, it shook the boy violently, and then it left the boy. The boy did not move. He seemed like a dead body. So many of the people there said, “He is dead!”

²⁷ However, Jesus took him by the hand and helped him get up. Then the boy stood up. He was healed!

²⁸ Later, when Jesus and his disciples were alone in a house, one of them asked him, “Why were we not able to expel the evil spirit?”

²⁹ He said to them, “You can expel this kind of evil spirit only by your praying that God will give you the power to do it. There is no other way that you can expel them.”

³⁰ After Jesus and his disciples left that district , they traveled through Galilee district . Jesus did not want anyone else to know that he was in their area ; he did not want

³¹ anyone to interrupt him as he taught his disciples. He was telling them, “ Some day my enemies SYN will seize MTY me, the one who came from heaven, and I will be handed over to other men. Those men will kill me. But on the third day after I am killed {after they kill me}, I will become alive again!”

³² But they did not understand what he was telling them. Also, they were afraid to ask him about what he had said.

³³ Jesus and his disciples returned to Capernaum town. When they were in the house, he asked them, “What were you discussing while we were traveling on the road?”

³⁴ But they did not reply. They were ashamed to reply because, while they were traveling, they had been arguing with each other about which one of them would be the most important when Jesus became king.

³⁵ He sat down, he summoned the twelve disciples to come close to him, and then he said to them, “If anyone wants God to consider him to be the most important person of all, he must consider himself to be the least important person of all, and he must serve everyone else.”

³⁶ Then he took a child and placed him among them. He took the child in his arms and then he said to them,

²⁰ They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

²¹ He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.

²² Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

²³ Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

²⁶ After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.

²⁸ When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.”

³⁰ They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”

³² But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

³⁴ But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.

²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

²⁶ After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.

²⁸ When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.”

³⁰ They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”

³² But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

³⁴ But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.

³⁵ He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”

³⁶ He took a little child and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

³ His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

⁴ Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵ Peter answered Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁶ For he didn’t know what to say, for they were very afraid.

⁷ A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

⁸ Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Jesus only.

⁹ As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

¹⁰ They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the “rising from the dead” meant.

¹¹ They asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹² He said to them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?

¹³ But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him.”

¹⁴ Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.

¹⁵ Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, greeted him.

¹⁶ He asked the scribes, “What are you asking them?”

¹⁷ One of the multitude answered, “Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;

¹⁸ and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”

¹⁹ He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

²⁰ They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

²¹ He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.

²² Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

²³ Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

⁷ And a cloud came over them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, give ear to him.

⁸ And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any longer, but Jesus only with themselves.

⁹ And while they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to give word to any man of the things they had seen, till the Son of man had come back from the dead.

¹⁰ And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the coming back from the dead might be.

¹¹ And they put a question to him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?

¹² And he said to them, Truly, Elijah does come first, and puts all things in order; and how is it said in the Writings that the Son of man will go through much sorrow and be made as nothing?

¹³ But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they have done to him whatever they were pleased to do, even as the Writings say about him.

¹⁴ And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great mass of people about them, and scribes questioning them.

¹⁵ And straight away all the people, when they saw him, were full of wonder, and running to him, gave him worship.

¹⁶ And he said, What are you questioning them about?

¹⁷ And one of the number said to him in answer, Master, I came to you with my son, who has in him a spirit which takes away his power of talking;

¹⁸ And wherever it takes him, it puts him down violently, streaming at the lips and twisted with pain; and his strength goes from him; and I made a request to your disciples to send it out, and they were not able.

¹⁹ And he said to them in answer, O generation without faith, how long will I have to be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come to me.

²⁰ And they took him to him: and when he saw him, the spirit in him straight away became violent; and he went down on the earth, rolling about and streaming at the lips.

²¹ And Jesus questioning the father said, How long has he been like this? And he said, From a child.

²² And frequently it has sent him into the fire and into the water, for his destruction; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us, and give us help.

²³ And Jesus said to him, If you are able! All things are possible to him who has faith.

²⁴ Straight away the father of the child gave a cry, saying, I have faith; make my feeble faith stronger.

²⁵ And when Jesus saw that the people came running together, he gave orders to the unclean spirit, saying to him, You, spirit, who are the cause of his loss of voice and hearing, I say to you, come out of him, and never again go into him.

²⁶ And after crying out and shaking him violently, it came out: and the child became like one dead; so that most of them said, He is dead.

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand, lifting him up; and he got up.

²⁸ And when he had gone into the house, his disciples said to him privately, Why were we unable to send it out?

²⁹ And he said to them, Nothing will make this sort come out but prayer.

³⁰ And they went out from there, through Galilee; and it was his desire that no man might have knowledge of it;

³¹ For he was giving his disciples teaching, and saying to them, The Son of man is given up into the hands of men, and they will put him to death; and when he is dead, after three days he will come back from the dead.

³² But the saying was not clear to them, and they were in fear of questioning him about it.

³³ And they came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house, he put the question to them, What were you talking about on the way?

³⁴ But they said nothing: because they had had an argument between themselves on the way, about who was the greatest.

³⁵ And seating himself, he made the twelve come to him; and he said to them, If any man has the desire to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.

³⁶ And he took a little child, and put him in the middle of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them,

³ and his garments became shining, exceeding white as snow, such as fuller on earth could not whiten them.

⁴ And there appeared to them Elias with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵ And Peter answering says to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good that we should be here; and let us make three tabernacles, for thee one, and for Moses one, and for Elias one.

⁶ For he knew not what he should say, for they were filled with fear.

⁷ And there came a cloud overshadowing them, and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

⁸ And suddenly having looked around, they no longer saw any one, but Jesus alone with themselves.

⁹ And as they descended from the mountain, he charged them that they should relate to no one what they had seen, unless when the Son of man should be risen from among the dead.

¹⁰ And they kept that saying, questioning among themselves, what rising from among the dead was.

¹¹ And they asked him saying, Why do the scribes say that Elias must first have come?

¹² And he answering said to them, Elias indeed, having first come, restores all things; and how is it written of the Son of man that he must suffer much, and be set at nought:

¹³ but I say unto you that Elias also is come, and they have done to him whatever they would, as it is written of him.

¹⁴ And when he came to the disciples he saw a great crowd around them, and scribes disputing against them.

¹⁵ And immediately all the crowd seeing him were amazed, and running to him, saluted him.

¹⁶ And he asked them, What do ye question with them about?

¹⁷ And one out of the crowd answered him, Teacher, I brought to thee my son, who has a dumb spirit;

¹⁸ and wheresoever it seizes him it tears him, and he foams and gnashes his teeth, and he is withering away. And I spoke to thy disciples, that they might cast him out, and they could not.

¹⁹ But he answering them says, O unbelieving generation! how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him to me.

²⁰ And they brought him to him. And seeing him the spirit immediately tore him; and falling upon the earth he rolled foaming.

²¹ And he asked his father, How long a time is it that it has been like this with him? And he said, From childhood;

²² and often it has cast him both into fire and into waters that it might destroy him: but if thou couldst do anything, be moved with pity on us, and help us.

²³ And Jesus said to him, The 'if thou couldst' is if thou couldst believe: all things are possible to him that believes.

²⁴ And immediately the father of the young child crying out said with tears, I believe, help mine unbelief.

²⁵ But Jesus, seeing that the crowd was running up together, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶ And having cried out and torn him much, he came out; and he became as if dead, so that the most said, He is dead.

²⁷ But Jesus, having taken hold of him by the hand, lifted him up, and he arose.

²⁸ And when he was entered into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Wherefore could not we cast him out?

²⁹ And he said to them, This kind can go out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.

³⁰ And going forth from thence they went through Galilee; and he would not that any one knew it;

³¹ for he taught his disciples and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into men's hands, and they shall kill him; and having been killed, after three days he shall rise again.

¹⁰ And they asked him, saying: Why then do the Pharisees and scribes say that Elias must come first?

¹¹ Who answering, said to them: Elias, when he shall come first, shall restore all things; and as it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be despised.

¹² But I say to you, that Elias also is come, (and they have done to him whatsoever they would,) as it is written of him.

¹³ And coming to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes disputing with them.

¹⁴ And presently all the people seeing Jesus, were astonished and struck with fear; and running to him, they saluted him.

¹⁵ And he asked them: What do you question about among you?

¹⁶ And one of the multitude, answering, said: Master, I have brought my son to thee, having a dumb spirit.

¹⁷ Who, wheresoever he taketh him, dasheth him, and he foameth, and gnasheth with the teeth, and pineth away; and I spoke to thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not.

¹⁸ Who answering them, said: O incredulous generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

¹⁹ And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the spirit troubled him; and being thrown down upon the ground, he rolled about foaming.

²⁰ And he asked his father: How long time is it since this hath happened unto him? But he said: From his infancy:

²¹ And oftentimes hath he cast him into the fire and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do any thing, help us, having compassion on us.

²² And Jesus saith to him: If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

²³ And immediately the father of the boy crying out, with tears said: I do believe, Lord: help my unbelief.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw the multitude running together, he threatened the unclean spirit, saying to him: Deaf and dumb spirit, I command thee, go out of him; and enter not any more into him.

²⁵ And crying out, and greatly tearing him, he went out of him, and he became as dead, so that many said: He is dead.

²⁶ But Jesus taking him by the hand, lifted him up; and he arose.

²⁷ And when he was come into the house, his disciples secretly asked him: Why could not we cast him out?

²⁸ And he said to them: This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

²⁹ And departing from thence, they passed through Galilee, and he would not that any man should know it.

³⁰ And he taught his disciple, and said to them: The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise again the third day.

³¹ But they understood not the word, and they were afraid to ask him.

³² And they came to Capharnaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them: What did you treat of in the way?

³³ But they held their peace, for in the way they had disputed among themselves, which of them should be the greatest.

³⁴ And sitting down, he called the twelve, and saith to them: If any man desire to be first, he shall be the last of all, and the minister of all.

³⁵ And taking a child, he set him in the midst of them. Whom when he had embraced, he saith to them:

³⁶ Whosoever shall receive one such child as this in my name, receiveth me. And whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

³ and His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth is able to whiten.

⁴ And Elijah appeared to them together with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵ Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—

¹² And answering He said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

¹³ But I say to you that indeed Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written concerning him.”

¹⁴ And when He came to the disciples, He saw a large crowd around them, and scribes disputing with them.

⁵ Well Peter reacted by saying to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three shelters: one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

⁶ (Because they were terrified, he didn't know what to say.)

⁷ With that a cloud was covering them and a Voice came out of the cloud: “This is my Son, the beloved. Listen to Him!”

⁸ And then, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

⁹ Now as they were coming down from the mountain, He ordered them not to recount to any one the things they had seen until the Son of the Man had risen from the dead.

¹⁰ So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the ‘rising from the dead’ meant.

¹¹ And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹² So in answer He said to them: “Elijah indeed does come first, and restores all things; also how it is written concerning the Son of the Man that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt.

¹³ Still, I say to you that ‘Elijah’ has also come, and they did to him as they wished, as it is written about him.”

¹⁴ Upon coming to the disciples, He saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.

¹⁵ Well as soon as the crowd saw Him they were excited and ran to greet Him.

¹⁶ He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”

¹⁷ In answer a man in the crowd said: “Teacher, I brought you my son, who has a mute spirit.

¹⁸ And wherever it seizes him it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth and gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. Indeed, I spoke to your disciples, that they might cast it out, but they could not.”

¹⁹ But He answered him by saying: “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you, how long shall I put up with you? Bring him to me!”

²⁰ So they brought him to Him. Upon seeing Him the spirit convulsed him, and falling to the ground he started wallowing, foaming at the mouth.

²¹ Then He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said: “From childhood.

²² Really, it has often thrown him both into fire and into water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

²³ Jesus said to him, “It's ‘if you can believe’; all things are possible to the one who believes.”

²⁸ Well upon His entering a house His disciples asked Him privately, “Why couldn't we cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing except prayer and fasting.”

³⁰ Having gone out from there they were passing through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know;

³¹ because He was teaching His disciples and saying to them, “The Son of the Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and once killed he will rise on the third day.”

³² But they were not understanding this information, yet were afraid to ask Him.

³³ Then He came to Capernaum; and once in the house He asked them, “What were you debating among yourselves on the road?”

³⁴ But they kept silent, because on the road they had debated among themselves who was greater.

³⁵ So He sat down, called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

³⁶ Then He took a child and stood him in their midst, and embracing him said to them,

³ His clothes shone a brilliant white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.

⁴ Then Elijah and Moses appeared in front of them as well, talking with Jesus.

⁵ Peter spoke up and said, “Rabbi, it's great for us to be here! We should make three shelters—one each for you, Moses, and Elijah.”

⁶ (He really didn't know what to say because they were all so frightened!)

⁷ Then a cloud covered them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the one I love. Listen to him.”

⁸ Then, all of a sudden, as they were watching, there was nobody. Only Jesus was with them.

⁹ As they came down the mountain Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they'd seen until the Son of man had risen from the dead.

¹⁰ They kept this to themselves, but they did argue with each other over what it meant to rise from the dead.

¹¹ “Why do the religious teachers state that Elijah has to come first?” they asked him.

¹² “It's true that Elijah comes first to prepare everything,” Jesus replied. “But why then does it say in Scripture that the Son of man has to suffer so much and be treated with contempt?

¹³ However, I tell you that Elijah has come, and they abused him in whatever way they wanted, just as Scripture said they would.”

¹⁴ When they returned to the other disciples, they saw them surrounded by a large crowd and some religious teachers arguing with them.

¹⁵ As soon as the crowd saw Jesus they were in total awe, and ran to greet him.

¹⁶ “What are you arguing with them about?” Jesus asked them.

¹⁷ One of the people in the crowd answered, “Rabbi, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit that prevents him speaking.

¹⁸ Whenever he has a seizure it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out of him, but they couldn't do it.”

¹⁹ “You unbelieving people!” Jesus responded. “How long must I remain here with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring him over here to me!”

²⁰ So they brought him to Jesus. When the evil spirit saw Jesus it immediately sent the boy into convulsions and threw him on the ground, where he rolled around, foaming at the mouth.

²¹ “How long has he had this?” Jesus asked the boy's father. “Since he was small,” the father replied.

²² “Often it throws him into the fire to burn him to death, or throws him into water to drown him. Please have mercy on us and help, if you can.”

²³ “Why do you say, ‘if you can?’” replied Jesus. “Whoever trusts has every power!”

²⁴ “I do trust in you,” the man shouted out right away. “Help me not to distrust you.”

²⁵ Jesus, seeing that the crowd was closing in, commanded the evil spirit, “Spirit that causes deafness and dumbness, I order you to come out of him and never return.”

²⁶ The spirit screamed and threw the boy into severe convulsions. Then the spirit came out of the boy and left him for dead—to the extent that many of the people said, “He's dead.”

²⁷ But Jesus took the boy by the hand and helped him up, and he got to his feet.

²⁸ Later, when Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him in private, “Why couldn't we drive the evil spirit out?”

²⁹ “This kind can't be driven out except by prayer,” Jesus told them.

³⁰ They left and passed through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to know where he was

³¹ because he was teaching his disciples. “The Son of man will be betrayed to human authorities,” he told them. “They will kill him, but three days later he will rise again.”

³² They didn't understand what he meant and were too afraid to ask him about it.

³³ They arrived at Capernaum, and once they were inside the house where they were staying, Jesus asked them, “What were you talking about on the way?”

³⁴ But they didn't say anything because they had been arguing over who was the most important.

³⁵ Jesus sat down and called the twelve disciples together. “If anyone wants to be first, he has to be the very last, the servant of everyone else,” he told them.

³⁶ He took a small child and had the child stand right in the middle of them. Then he picked up and hugged the child, and told them,

³ And his rayment did shine, and was very white, as snowe, so white as no fuller can make vpon the earth.

⁴ And there appeared vnto them Elias with Moses, and they were talking with Iesus.

⁵ Then Peter answered, and said to Iesus, Master, it is good for vs to be here: let vs make also three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

⁶ Yet hee knewe not what he saide: for they were afraide.

⁷ And there was a cloude that shadowed them, and a voyce came out of the cloude, saying, This is my beloued Sonne: heare him.

⁸ And suddenly they looked roud about, and sawe no more any man saue Iesus only with them.

⁹ And as they came downe from the mountaine, he charged them, that they should tell no man what they had seene, saue when the Sonne of man were risen from the dead againe.

¹⁰ So they kept that matter to themselues, and demaunded one of another, what the rising from the dead againe should meane?

¹¹ Also they asked him, saying, Why say the Scribes, that Elias must first come?

¹² And he answered, and said vnto them, Elias verely shall first come, and restore all things: and as it is written of the Sonne of man, hee must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

¹³ But I say vnto you, that Elias is come, (and they haue done vnto him whatsoeuer they would) as it is written of him.

¹⁴ And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the Scribes disputing with them.

¹⁵ And straightway all the people, when they behelde him, were amased, and ranne to him, and saluted him.

¹⁶ Then hee asked the Scribes, What dispute you among your selues?

¹⁷ And one of the companie answered, and said, Master, I haue brought my sonne vnto thee, which hath a dumme spirit:

¹⁸ And wheresoeuer he taketh him, he teareth him, and he fometh, and gnasheth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples, that they should cast him out, and they could not.

¹⁹ Then he answered him, and said, O faithlesse generation, how long now shall I be with you! how long now shall I suffer you! Bring him vnto me.

²⁰ So they brought him vnto him: and assoone as the spirit sawe him, hee tare him, and hee fell downe on the ground walowing and foming.

²¹ Then he asked his father, How long time is it since he hath bin thus? And he said, Of a childe.

²² And oft times he casteth him into the fire, and into the water to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, helpe vs, and haue compassion vpon vs.

²³ And Iesus said vnto him, If thou canst beleeue it, al things are possible to him that beleeueth.

²⁴ And straightway the father of the childe crying with teares, saide, Lord, I beleeue: helpe my vnbeliefe.

²⁵ When Iesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the vncleane spirit, saying vnto him, Thou domme and deafe spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶ Then the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out, and he was as one dead, in so much that many said, He is dead.

²⁷ But Iesus tooke his hande, and lift him vp, and he arose.

²⁸ And when hee was come into the house, his disciples asked him secretly, Why could not we cast him out?

²⁹ And he saide vnto them, This kinde can by no other meanes come foorth, but by prayer and fasting.

³⁰ And they departed thence, and went together through Galile, and hee would not that any should haue knowen it.

³¹ For he taught his disciples, and saide vnto them, The Sonne of man shalbe deliuered into the handes of men, and they shall kill him, but after that he is killed, he shall rise againe the third day.

³² But they vnderstoode not that saying, and were afraide to aske him.

³³ After, he came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house, he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among you by the way?

¹⁷ And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit:

¹⁸ and wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

²⁵ When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶ And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

²⁹ And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

³¹ For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

³⁴ But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

³⁶ And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

³ His clothes became white, they became bright for him. Truly a person can not make them really white like that.

⁴ After that those three saw two wise old leaders, they were God's two speakers from long ago, the name of one was Elijah, the other was Moses. Those two and Jesus were conversing.

⁵ Peter butting in spoke to Jesus, “Teacher, we are right here. That is good. We will make bough shelters for all of you, one for you, another for Moses, another for Elijah.

⁶ He and James and John were afraid, they were ignorant about right words.

⁷ At that time a cloud came and covered them. God said to them, from the cloud, “This is my own child, I love him, Listen to him.”

⁸ They quickly looked around, they did not see the two leaders from long ago. They saw only Jesus.

⁹ As they were descending (from the hill) Jesus told them sternly, “You have seen me, I was in the brightness, you saw Moses and Elijah, God spoke to you from the cloud. Do not tell the others. Later after I die I will get up alive. After that you can tell them.”

¹⁰ In response to his word they did not talk to the others. Only they discussed it secretly with each other. “Why did he tell us that word, 'After I die I will get up alive'?” They were puzzling.

¹⁴ After they returned they came to Jesus' other men. They saw them in the middle of a crowd. A few of the Jews' teachers were there arguing with Jesus' men.

¹⁵ When the crowd looked they saw Jesus close, they were pleased, they ran to meet him. “We are happy! You have come!”

¹⁶ Jesus asked his men, “Why were you arguing with them?”

¹⁷ One man said to him, “Teacher, my child is controlled by an evil spirit, he can't talk.

¹⁸ The spirit grabs him, it throws him on the ground. Saliva froths from his mouth, he grinds his teeth, his body becomes very stiff. Therefore I brought him to you so you can make him well. I asked your men to send the demon right away. Nothing. They tried in vain to send it away.”

¹⁹ Then Jesus said to his men, “You truly have not believed in God. How is it? You are still unbelievers. How long shall I be with you? Shall I teach you for a long time? After that will you believe in God? Bring the child to me.”

²⁰ They brought him to him. As soon as he saw Jesus the spirit grabbed that child, it made him thrash around. At that time the child fell on the ground, trembling he was rolling from side to side. Saliva was coming from his mouth.

²¹ Jesus asked his father, “When did he become like this?” He said to him, “When he was a child.

²² Many times the spirit has thrown him in the fire or in the water, it has been trying to kill him. Have pity on us. Perhaps you will make him well.”

²³ Jesus replied, “Yes, I know how to heal him. Why did you say that word to me, 'Perhaps you will make him well.'? You must believe in God. Then you can ask God for anything. For that particular thing he knows how to do it. It is not a puzzle for God.” Right then the man called out loudly, “I believe in God. Teach me to believe properly!”

²⁵ Jesus saw many people gathering together. Therefore he said sternly to the evil spirit, “You bad spirit, you made this child deaf, you made him unable to speak. Leave. Go away. Do not again control him.”

²⁶ The spirit called out, it was making the child thrash around, it was very bad. Then it left, it went away permanently. That child was like a corpse. Many were saying, “He is truly dead.”

²⁷ Jesus raised him up by the hand. After that the child stood up. He was well.

²⁸ After Jesus entered the house his men asked him, “Why couldn't we expel that spirit?” In vain we tried to send it away.”

²⁹ Jesus replied, “Only after praying to God will you expel a demon like that.”

³⁰ Jesus and his men left that place, they were going around the country of Galilee. He wanted the people of the area not to recognise him. He was wanting to teach his men about himself, others would kill him. He was telling them, “You know about me, God sent me to people. Some people have been saying God did not send me. They want to kill me. Truly they will grab me, they will take me to other people. Those others will truly kill me. After that, after two nights, truly I will become alive again.” In that way Jesus talked to his men.

³² His men were very ignorant about that talk. They did not want to ask him in response, they were shy.

³³ They went to that town Capernaum. After his men had entered the house Jesus asked them, “As we were coming why were you arguing with each other?”

³⁴ They stayed silent. They didn't answer him. As they were going along they were arguing with each other. In this way they were saying to each other, “Who among us will be boss for us all?”

³⁵ After sitting down Jesus called them to him. He said to them, “Maybe you want to be boss, make yourself small, do good to everyone.”

³⁶ After that he called a child, after leading him he stood him in front of them. After hugging him he said to them,

³ And his garments became glistening, very white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten.

¹⁸ and, wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they failed.”

¹⁶ He asked the Torah-Teachers, “What are you asking them?”

¹⁷ One of the multitude answered, “Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;

¹⁸ and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”

¹⁹ He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

²⁰ They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

²¹ He asked 'Aviv his father, “How long has it been since this has come to him?” He said, “From childhood.

²² Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.”

²³ Yeshua Salvation said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

²⁴ Immediately the Abba father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Yeshua Salvation saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

²⁶ Having cried out, and convulsed greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead; so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”

²⁷ But Yeshua Salvation took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.

²⁸ When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing, except by prayer and fasting.”

³⁰ They went out from there, and passed through Galilee District, Circuit. He didn’t want anyone to know it.

³¹ For he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”

³² But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ He came to Capernaum Village-Comfort, Village-Compassion, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

³⁴ But they were silent, for they had disputed one with another on the way about who was the greatest.

³⁵ He sat down, and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”

³⁶ He took a little child, and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

³ His clothes got really shiny and white. Nobody could wash them enough to make them properly white like that.

⁴ And Peter, James and John saw 2 men that lived a long time ago. They were Moses, the man that was a leader of God’s people, and Elijah, the man that told God’s message to people. They were there, and they talked to Jesus.

⁵ Peter, James and John were very frightened and they didn’t know what to say, but Peter talked anyway. He said to Jesus, “Teacher, this is great. We have to put up special bush shades, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

⁷ Then a cloud covered them all and God talked to them from the cloud and said, “This is my son. I love him very much. You have to listen to him.”

⁸ Then Peter, James and John looked around for those old men, but they couldn’t see them any more. They were gone. Only Jesus was there with them.

⁹ Then they all started to come down from the hill, and as they walked along Jesus told them really straight, “Don’t tell anyone what you just saw. You have to wait till after I die. I’m God’s special man, and I will die and then come back alive again. After that you can talk about what you saw.”

¹⁰ So Peter, James and John kept quiet about it. They didn’t tell anyone, but they talked to each other about the words Jesus said, “I will die and then come back alive again.” They wondered what Jesus meant.

¹¹ And they asked Jesus about the Jewish law teachers. They said, “Those law teachers say that first of all a man from long ago has to come back, that man called Elijah, and after that God will send his special man.”

¹² Jesus said, “Those law teachers are teaching the true message. A man did come, and he told them God’s message just like Elijah did long ago. That man got things ready for me, but bad people killed him. And they will do the same to me, God’s special man from heaven. They will turn their backs and laugh at me, and they will not listen to my message. All of this is already in God’s book.”

¹⁴ After they came back down the hill they found the other followers of Jesus arguing with the Jewish law teachers. There were lots of people standing around.

¹⁵ They looked up and saw Jesus and they were surprised, and they all ran to him and said hello to him.

¹⁶ Jesus asked them, “What are you mob all arguing about?”

¹⁷ One of the men there said to Jesus, “Teacher, my son has a bad spirit inside him and it stops him from talking.

¹⁸ It pushes the boy down on to the ground, his body goes stiff and he rubs his teeth together and spit comes out of his mouth. I asked your followers, ‘Please force that bad spirit out of him.’ But they can’t do it.”

¹⁹ Jesus said, “How come you mob that are alive today can’t believe? Do I have to always stay here and do everything for you? Bring the boy here to me.”

²⁰ The people brought the boy to Jesus. As soon as that bad spirit saw Jesus it shook the boy and pushed him down so that he wriggled around on the ground, and a lot of spit came out of his mouth.

²¹ Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has your boy been like this?” The man said, “For a long time, from when he was little kid.

²² Lots of times the bad spirit pushes him into fires and into water. That bad spirit is trying to kill him. Please feel sorry for us and help him if you can.”

²³ Jesus said, “You said to me, ‘If you can.’ Don’t you know that God is strong enough to do anything if you trust him to do it?”

²⁴ That boy’s father yelled out, “I believe God can do it. But please help me believe more.”

²⁵ Jesus looked around and saw a big mob of people coming to watch, so he growled at the bad spirit. He said, “Hey. You bad spirit that stops people from talking and hearing, I’m telling you now, come out of this little boy, and stay out of him. You can never go back into him.”

²⁶ Then the bad spirit screamed and forced the boy to take another bad fit and fall down on the ground, then it went out of the boy. The boy looked like he was dead, and a lot of people said, “Poor boy, he is finished.”

²⁷ But Jesus just got hold of the boy’s hand and helped him stand up. Then his father took the boy home.

²⁸ After that Jesus and his followers went into a house, and his followers asked him quietly, “Why couldn’t we force that bad spirit out of the boy?”

²⁹ Jesus told them, “The only way you can force that kind of bad spirit out of anyone is to pray and get God to force it out.”

³⁰ Later Jesus and his followers left that place and went through Galilee country. As they walked along he was teaching his followers. He didn’t want everyone to know where he was going, so they went along secretly and quietly. He told them about what was going to happen to him. He said, “I’m God’s special man from heaven, but bad men will grab me, and they will kill me. But after 3 days I will come alive again.”

³² The followers of Jesus couldn’t understand what he was talking about, but they felt too ashamed to ask him any more questions.

³³ While they walked along the road Jesus’s followers argued with each other about which one of them was the most important. After they got to Capernaum they went into the house that they were going to camp in, and Jesus asked them what they were arguing about on the road. His followers were ashamed and said nothing.

³⁵ Jesus sat down and said, “If anyone wants to be the leader, that person has to think to himself, ‘I’m not important at all.’ And he has to be a workman for everybody else.”

³⁶ There was a young kid in that house and Jesus picked him up and said, “Look at this little kid. If you follow me and you are friendly to little kids like this one and you help them, well really, you are friendly to me too. And if you are friendly to me, well really, you are friendly to my Father in heaven too. He is the one that sent me here.”

³ And his rayment dyd shyne and was made very whyte even as snowe: so whyte as noo fuller can make apon the erth.

⁴ And ther apered vnto them Helyas with Moses: and they talked with Iesu.

⁵ And Peter answered and sayde to Iesu: Master here is good beinge for vs let vs make .iii. tabernacles one for the one for Moses and one for Helyas.

⁶ And yet he wist not what he sayde: for they were afrayde.

⁷ And ther was a cloude that shaddowed the. And a voyce came out of the cloude sayinge: This is my dere sonne here him.

⁸ And sodenly they loked rounde aboute them and sawe no man more then Iesus only with them.

⁹ And as they came doune from the hyll he charged the that they shuld tell no man what they had sene tyll the sonne of man were rysen from deeth agayne.

¹⁰ And they kepte that sayinge with them and demaunded one of a nother what that rysinge from deeth agayne shuld meane?

¹¹ And they axed him sayinge: why then saye the scribe that Helyas muste fyrste come?

¹² He answered and sayde vnto them: Helyas verelye shall fyrst come and restore all thinges. And also the sonne of man as it is wrytte shall suffre many thinges and shall be set at nought.

¹³ Moreouer I saye vnto you that Helyas is come and they have done vnto him whatsoever pleased them as it is wrytten of him.

¹⁴ And he came to his disciples and sawe moche people aboute them and the scribes disputinge with them.

¹⁵ And streyght waye all the people when they behelde him were amased and ran to him and saluted him.

¹⁶ And he sayde vnto the Scribes: what dispute ye with them?

¹⁷ And one of the companye answered and sayde: Master I have brought my sonne vnto the which hath a dome spirite.

¹⁸ And whensoever he taketh him he teareth him and he fometh and gnassheth with his tethe and pyneth awaye. And I spake to thy disciples that they shuld caste him out and they coulde not.

¹⁹ He answered him and sayd: O generacion with out faith how longe shall I be with you? How longe shall I suffre you? Bringe him vnto me.

²⁰ And they brought him vnto him. And assone as the sprete sawe him he tare him. And he fell doune on the grounde walowinge and fomynge.

²¹ And he axed his father: how longe is it a goo sens this hath happened him? And he sayde of a chylde:

²² and ofte tymes casteth him into the fyre and also into the water to destroye him. But yf thou canste do eny thinge have mercy on vs and helpe vs.

²³ And Iesus sayde vnto him: ye yf thou couldest beleve all thinges are possible to him that belevith.

²⁴ And streygth waye the father of the chylde cryed with teares sayinge: Lorde I beleve helpe myne vnbelefe.

²⁵ When Iesus sawe that the people came runnynge togedder vnto him he rebuked the foule sprete sayinge vnto him: Thou domme and deffe sprete I charge the come out of him and entre no more into him.

²⁶ And the sprete cryed and rent him sore and came out: And he was as one that had bene deed in so moche that many sayde he is deed.

²⁷ But Iesus caught his honde and lyfte him vp: and he roose.

²⁸ And when he was come into the housse his disciples axed him secretly: why coulde not we caste him out?

²⁹ And he sayde vnto them: this kynde can by no nother meanes come forth but by prayer and fastynge.

³⁰ And they departed thens and toke their iorney thorow Galile and he wolde not that eny man shuld have knowen it.

³¹ For he taught his disciples and sayde vnto them: The sonne of man shalbe delyvered into the hondes of men and they shall kyll him and after that he is kylled he shall aryse agayne the thryd daye.

³² But they wiste not what that sayinge meat and were affrayed to axe him.

³³ And he came to Capernaum. And when he was come to housse he axed the: what was it that ye disputed bytwene you by the waye?

³⁴ And they helde their peace: for by the waye they reasoned amonge the selves who shuld be the chefest.

³⁵ And he sate doune and called the twelve vnto him and sayd to them: yf eny man desyre to be fyrst the same shalbe last of all and servaunt vnto all.

³⁶ And he toke a chylde and set him in the middes of them and toke him in his armes and sayde vnto them.

³ His garments became radiantly brilliant, extremely white, whiter than any bleacher on earth could bleach them.

⁴ Then Elijah with Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵ Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here, and so let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁶ (For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.)

⁷ A cloud came and overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

⁸ Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them, but only Jesus.

⁹ As they were coming down the mountain, he commanded them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

¹⁰ So they kept the matter to themselves, but they discussed among themselves what “rising from the dead” could mean.

¹¹ They asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹² He said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?

¹³ But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they wanted to him, just as scripture says about him.”

¹⁴ When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them and scribes were arguing with them.

¹⁵ As soon as they saw Jesus, the whole crowd was amazed and as they ran up to him they greeted him.

¹⁶ He asked his disciples, “What are you arguing with them about?”

¹⁷ Someone in the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you. He has a spirit that makes him unable to speak.

¹⁸ It seizes him and it throws him down and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out of him, but they could not.”

¹⁹ He answered them, “Unbelieving generation, how long will I have to stay with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

²⁰ They brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw him into a convulsion. The boy fell on the ground and foamed at the mouth.

²¹ Jesus asked his father, “How long has he been like this?” The father said, “Since childhood.

²² It has often thrown him into the fire or into the waters and tried to destroy him. If you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.”

²³ Jesus said to him, “'If you are able'? All things are possible for the one who believes.”

²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe! Help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Jesus saw the crowd running to them, he rebuked the unclean spirit and said, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter into him again.”

²⁶ It cried out and convulsed the boy greatly and then came out. The boy looked like one who was dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”

²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and the boy stood up.

²⁸ When Jesus came into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind cannot be cast out except by prayer.”

³⁰ They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know where they were,

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will put him to death. When he has been put to death, after three days he will rise again.”

³² But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask him.

³³ Then they came to Capernaum. After he entered the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”

³⁴ But they were silent. For they had been arguing with one with another on the way about who was the greatest.

³⁵ Sitting down, he called the twelve together and he said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

³ His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

¹³ But I say to you, that Elijah is indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written concerning him.

¹⁴ And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

¹⁵ And immediately all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him , saluted him.

¹⁶ And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

⁴ Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Yeshua.

⁵ Peter answered Yeshua, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁶ For he didn’t know what to say, for they were very afraid.

⁷ A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

⁸ Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Yeshua only.

⁹ As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

¹⁰ They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the “rising from the dead” meant.

¹¹ They asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹² He said to them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?

¹³ But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him.”

¹⁴ Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.

¹⁵ Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, greeted him.

¹⁶ He asked the scribes, “What are you asking them?”

¹⁷ One of the multitude answered, “Rabbi, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;

¹⁸ and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”

¹⁹ He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

²⁰ They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

²¹ He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.

²² Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

²³ Yeshua said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

²⁵ When Yeshua saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

²⁶ After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”

²⁷ But Yeshua took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.

²⁸ When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

²⁹ He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.”

³⁰ They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”

³² But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³ He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

³⁴ But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.

³⁵ He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”

³⁶ He took a little child and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

³ His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

¹⁰ And they held the word at them-selves, seeking what this should be, when he had risen again from death.

¹¹ And they asked him, and said, What then say the Pharisees and the scribes, that it behooveth Elijah to come first.

¹² And he answered, and said to them, When Elijah cometh, he shall first restore all things; and as it is written of man’s Son, that he suffer many things, and be despised.

¹³ And I say to you that Elijah is come, and they did to him whatever things they would, as it is written of him.

¹⁴ And he coming to his disciples, saw a great company about them, and the scribes disputing with them.

¹⁵ And anon all the people seeing Jesus, was astonied, and they dreaded; and they running to, greeted him.

¹⁶ And he asked them, What dispute ye among you?

¹⁷ And one of the company answered, and said, Master, I have brought to thee my son, that hath a dumb spirit;

¹⁸ and wherever he taketh him, he hurtleth him down, and he foameth, and beateth together with teeth, and waxeth dry. And I said to thy disciples, that they should cast him out, and they might not.

¹⁹ And he answered to them, and said, A! thou generation out of belief or unbelieveful, how long shall I be among you, how long shall I suffer you? Bring ye him to me.

²⁰ And they brought him. And when he had seen him, anon the spirit troubled him; and he was thrown down to the ground, and wallowed, and foamed.

²¹ And he asked his father, How long is it, since this hath befallen to him? And he said, From childhood;

²² and oft he hath put him into the fire, and into water, to lose him; but if thou mayest anything, help us, and have mercy on us.

²³ And Jesus said to him, If thou mayest believe, all things be possible to a man that believeth.

²⁴ And anon the father of the child cried with tears, and said, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

²⁵ And when Jesus had seen the people running together, he menaced the unclean spirit, and said to him, Thou deaf and dumb spirit, I command thee, go out from him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶ And he crying, and much wrenching him, went out from him; and he was made as dead, so that many said, that he was dead.

²⁷ And Jesus held his hand, and lifted him up; and he rose.

²⁸ And when he had entered into an house, his disciples asked him privily, Why might not we cast him out?

²⁹ And he said to them, This kind in nothing may go out or This kind may not go out in anything, but in prayer and fasting.

³⁰ And they went from thence, and went forth into Galilee; and they would not, that any man knew, or and he would not, that any man know.

³¹ And he taught his disciples, and said to them, For man’s Son shall be betrayed into the hands of men, and they shall slay him, and he slain shall rise again on the third day.

³² And they knew not the word, and dreaded to ask him.

³³ And they came to Capernaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them, What treated ye in the way?

³⁴ And they were still; for they disputed among themselves in the way, who of them should be the greatest.

³⁵ And he sat, and called the twelve, and said to them, If any man will be the first among you, he shall be the last of all, and the minister or the servant of all.

³⁶ And he took a child, and set him in the middle or in the midst of them; and when he had embraced him, he said to them,

³ And his clothes were made full shining and (as) white as snow, which manner white clothes a fuller may not make on (the) earth.

¹⁰ And they held the word at themselves (or And they held the word within themselves), seeking what this should be, when he had risen again from death or when he hath risen from (the) dead.

¹¹ And they asked him, and said, What then say the Pharisees and the scribes, that it behooveth Elias to come first. (And they asked him, Why then do the Pharisees and the scribes say, that it behooveth Elijah to come first.)

¹² And he answered, and said to them, When Elias cometh (or When Elijah shall come), he shall first restore all things; and as it is written of man’s Son, that he suffer many things, and be despised.

¹³ And I say to you that Elias is come, and they did to him whatever things they would, as it is written of him. (And I tell you that Elijah hath come, and they did whatever they wanted to do to him, as it is written about him.)

¹⁹ And he answered to them, and said, A! thou generation out of belief, or O! thou generation unbelieveful, (or O thou unbelieving, or unfaithful, generation!), how long shall I be among you, how long shall I suffer you? Bring ye him to me.

²⁹ And he said to them, This kind in nothing may go out or This kind may not go out in anything, no but in prayer and fasting. (And he said to them, This kind cannot be made to go out, except by prayer and fasting.)

³⁰ And they went from thence, and went forth into Galilee; and they would not, that any man knew, or and he would not, that any man know, (or and he did not want, that anyone knew that he was there).

³¹ And he taught his disciples, and said to them, For man’s Son shall be betrayed into the hands of men, and they shall slay him, and he slain shall rise again on the third day.

³² And they knew not the (meaning of the) word(s), and dreaded to ask him (or and feared to ask him).

³³ And they came to Capernaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them, What treated ye in the way? (or What did ye discuss on the way?)

³⁴ And they were still; for they disputed among themselves in the way, who of them should be the greatest. (And they were silent; for they had argued among themselves on the way, who of them was the greatest.)

⁴ And Petre answeride, and seide to Jhesu, Maister, it is good vs to be here; and make we here thre tabernaclis, oon to thee, oon to Moyses, and oon to Helie.

⁵ For he wiste not what he schulde seie; for thei weren agaste bi drede.

⁶ And ther was maad a cloude overschadewynge hem; and a vois cam of the cloude, and seide, This is my moost derworth sone, here ye hym.

⁷ And anoon thei bihelden aboute, and sayn no more ony man, but Jhesu oonli with hem.

⁸ And whanne thei camen doun fro the hille, he comaundide hem, that thei schulden not telle to ony man tho thingis that thei hadden seen, but whanne mannus sone hath risun ayen fro deeth.

⁹ And thei helden the word at hem silf, sekynge what this schulde be, whanne he hadde risun ayen fro deth.

¹⁰ And thei axiden hym, and seiden, What thanne seien Farisees and scribis, for it bihoueth `Helie to come first.

¹¹ And he answeride, and seide to hem, Whanne Helie cometh, he schal first restore alle thingis; and as it is writun of mannus sone, that he suffre many thingis, and be dispisid.

¹² And Y seie to you, that Helie is comun, and thei diden to hym what euer thingis thei wolden, as it is writun of hym.

¹³ And he comynge to hise disciplis, saiy a greet cumpany aboute hem, and scribis disputynge with hem.

¹⁴ And anoon al the puple seynge Jhesu, was astonyed, and thei dredden; and thei rennynge gretten hym.

¹⁵ And he axide hem, What disputen ye among you?

¹⁶ And oon of the cumpany answerde, and seide, Mayster, Y haue brouyt to thee my sone, that hath a doumbe spirit; and where euer he takith hym,

¹⁷ he hurtlith hym doun, and he fometh, and betith togidir with teeth, and wexith drye. And Y seide to thi disciplis, that thei schulden caste hym out, and thei myyten not.

¹⁸ And he answeride to hem, and seide, A! thou generacioun out of bileue, hou longe schal Y be among you, hou longe schal Y suffre you? Brynge ye hym to me.

¹⁹ And thei brouyten hym. And whanne he had seyn him, anoon the spirit troublide him; and was throw doun to grounde, and walewide, and fomede.

²⁰ And he axide his fadir, Hou longe `is it, sith this `hath falle to hym? And he seide, Fro childhode;

²¹ and ofte he hath put hym in to fier, and in to watir, to leese hym; but if thou maiste ony thing, helpe vs, and haue merci on vs.

²² And Jhesus seide to hym, If thou maiste bileue, alle thingis ben possible to man that bileueth.

²³ And anoon the fadir of the child criede with teeris, and seide, Lord, Y bileue; Lord, helpe thou myn vnbileue.

²⁴ And whanne Jhesus hadde seyn the puple rennynge togidere, he manasside the vnclene spirit, and seide to hym, Thou deef and doumbe spirit, Y comaunde thee, go out fro hym, and entre no more in to hym.

²⁵ And he criynge, and myche to breidynge him, wente out fro hym; and he was maad as deed, so that many seiden, that he was deed.

²⁶ And Jhesus helde his hoond, and lifte hym vp; and he roos.

²⁷ And whanne he hadde entrid in to an hous, hise disciplis axiden hym priueli, Whi myyten not we caste hym out?

²⁸ And he seide to hem, This kynde in no thing may go out, but in preier and fastyng.

²⁹ And thei yeden fro thennus, and wente forth in to Galile; and thei wolden not, that ony man wiste.

³⁰ And he tauyte hise disciplis, and seide to hem, For mannus sone schal be bitrayed in to the hondis of men, and thei schulen sle hym, and he slayn schal ryse ayen on the thridde day.

³¹ And thei knewen not the word, and dredden to axe hym.

³² And thei camen to Cafarnaum. And whanne thei weren in the hous, he axide hem, What tretiden ye in the weie?

³³ And thei weren stille; for thei disputiden among hem in the weie, who of hem schulde be grettest.

³⁴ And he sat, and clepide the twelue, and seide to hem, If ony man wole be the firste among you, he schal be the laste of alle, and the mynyster of alle.

³⁵ And he took a child, and sette hym in the myddil of hem; and whanne he hadde biclippid hym, he seide to hem,

³⁶ Who euer resseyueth oon of such children in my name, he resseyueth me; and who euer resseyueth me, he resseyueth not me aloone, but hym that sente me.

³ and his garments became glittering, white exceedingly, as snow, so as a fuller upon the earth is not able to whiten them.

¹⁰ and the thing they kept to themselves, questioning together what the rising out of the dead is.

¹¹ And they were questioning him, saying, that the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first.

¹² And he answering said to them, 'Elijah indeed, having come first, doth restore all things; and how hath it been written concerning the Son of Man, that many things he may suffer, and be set at nought?

¹³ But I say to you, That also Elijah hath come, and they did to him what they willed, as it hath been written of him.'

¹⁴ And having come unto the disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them,

¹⁹ And he answering him, said, 'O generation unbelieving, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I suffer you? bring him unto me;'

²⁶ and having cried, and rent him much, it came forth, and he became as dead, so that many said that he was dead,

²⁷ but Jesus, having taken him by the hand, lifted him up, and he arose.

²⁸ And he having come into the house, his disciples were questioning him by himself — 'Why were we not able to cast it forth?'

²⁹ And he said to them, 'This kind is able to come forth with nothing except with prayer and fasting.'

³⁰ And having gone forth thence, they were passing through Galilee, and he did not wish that any may know,

³¹ for he was teaching his disciples, and he said to them, 'The Son of Man is being delivered to the hands of men, and they shall kill him, and having been killed the third day he shall rise,'

³² but they were not understanding the saying, and they were afraid to question him.

³³ And he came to Capernaum, and being in the house, he was questioning them, 'What were ye reasoning in the way among yourselves?'

³⁴ and they were silent, for with one another they did reason in the way who is greater;

³⁵ and having sat down he called the twelve, and he saith to them, 'If any doth will to be first, he shall be last of all, and minister of all.'

³⁶ And having taken a child, he set him in the midst of them, and having taken him in his arms, said to them,
