²⁵ Then again he laid his hands upon his eyes; and he looked stedfastly, and was restored, and saw all things clearly.

²⁶ And he sent him away to his home, saying, Do not even enter into the village.

²⁷ And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Cæsarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

²⁸ And they told him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets.

²⁹ And he asked them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

³⁰ And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

³¹ And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³² And he spake the saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

³³ But he turning about, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

³⁴ And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

²⁵ Then Jesus again touched the eyes of the blind man. The man looked intently and at that moment he was completely healed! He could see everything clearly.

²⁶ Jesus said to him, “Do not go into the town! First go straight home and tell the people there about what I did!” Then he sent the man to his home.

²⁷ Jesus and the disciples left Bethsaida town and went to the villages near Caesarea Philippi town. On the way he questioned them, “Who do people say that I really am?”

²⁸ They replied, “ Some people say that you are John the Baptizer, who has come back to life again. Others say that you are the prophet Elijah who has returned from heaven as God promised. And others say that you are one of the other former prophets who has come back to life again.”

²⁹ He asked them, “What about you? Who do you say that I am?” Peter replied to him, “ We believe that you are the Messiah!”

³⁰ Then Jesus warned them strongly that they should not tell anyone yet that he was the Messiah.

³¹ Then Jesus began to teach them, “ Even though I am the one who came from heaven, it is necessary that I suffer very much. It is also necessary that I be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the men who teach the Jewish laws {that the elders, the chief priests, and the men who teach the Jewish laws reject me}, and that I be killed {they kill me}. But on the third day after I am killed I will become alive again.”

³² He said this to them clearly. But Peter took Jesus aside and then, because he assumed that the Messiah would never die, he started to rebuke Jesus for talking about dying.

³³ Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples. Then he rebuked Peter, saying, “Stop thinking like that! Satan is causing you to talk like that! Instead of wanting what God wants me to do, you are wanting me to do only what most people would want me to do.”

³⁴ Then he summoned the crowd along with his disciples so that they might listen to him. He told them, “If any one of you wants to be my disciple, you must not do only what you yourself want to do. Specifically, you must be willing to allow people to hurt you and to disgrace you. That is what they do to criminals who are forced to carry crosses MET to the places where they will be crucified. That is what anyone who wants to be my disciple must do.

³⁰ And he put them under orders not to say this of him to anyone.

³¹ And teaching them, he said that the Son of man would have to undergo much, and be hated by those in authority, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days come back from the dead.

³² And he said this openly. And Peter took him, and was protesting.

³³ But he, turning about, and seeing his disciples, said sharply to Peter, Get out of my way, Satan: for your mind is not on the things of God, but on the things of men.

³⁴ And turning to the mass of people with his disciples, he said to them, If any man has the desire to come after me, let him give up all other desires, and take up his cross and come after me.

²⁵ Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly.

²⁶ And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell it to any one in the village.

³⁴ And having called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.

²⁶ And he sent him into his house, saying: Go into thy house, and if thou enter into the town, tell nobody.

²⁸ Who answered him, saying: John the Baptist; but some Elias, and others as one of the prophets.

³³ Who turning about and seeing his disciples, threatened Peter, saying: Go behind me, Satan, because thou savorest not the things that are of God, but that are of men.

³⁴ And calling the multitude together with his disciples, he said to them: If any man will follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

²⁵ Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him to look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly again.

²⁶ Then He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither go into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

²⁷ Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He was questioning His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men pronounce Me to be?”

²⁸ So they answered, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.”

²⁹ He said to them, “But who do you pronounce Me to be?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

³⁰ Then He warned them that they should tell no one about Him.

³¹ And He began to teach them that it was necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise.

³² He was speaking this word with boldness. And Peter, taking Him aside, began to rebuke Him.

³³ But when He had turned and saw His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

³⁴ And having summoned the crowd together with His disciples, He said to them, “Whoever is willing to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

²⁵ Then He put His hands on his eyes again, and made him look up; and he was restored and saw everyone clearly.

²⁷ Then Jesus and His disciples set out for the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who are people saying that I am?”

²⁸ So they answered, “John the Baptist; others Elijah; still others one of the prophets.”

²⁹ He said to them, “And who do you say that I am?” So Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ!”

³² He said these things quite plainly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

³³ But He turned, looked at His disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying: “Get behind me, Satan! You have in mind men's values, not God's values.”

³⁴ He summoned the crowd, along with His disciples, and said to them: “Whoever wants to follow along behind me must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

²⁵ So Jesus touched the man's eyes again. He could see properly—he was cured and his sight was clear.

²⁶ Jesus sent the man home, and told him, “Don't go back through the village.”

²⁷ Jesus and his disciples left to go to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?”

²⁸ “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, others say one of the prophets,” they replied.

²⁹ “But who do you say I am?” he asked them. “You are the Messiah!” Peter answered.

³⁰ Jesus warned them not to tell anybody about him.

³¹ Then Jesus began to explain to them that the Son of man would suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and religious teachers. He would be killed, but three days later would rise again.

³² Jesus explained this to them very clearly. But Peter took Jesus aside and started to reprimand him for what he said.

³³ Jesus turned around and looking at his disciples, reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan,” he said. “You're not thinking as God thinks, but as human beings do.”

³⁴ Jesus called the crowd and his disciples over to him, and told them, “If you want to follow me, you must give up on yourselves, pick up your cross and follow me.

²⁵ After that, he put his hands againe vpon his eyes, and made him looke againe. And hee was restored to his sight, and sawe euery man a farre off clearely.

²⁶ And hee sent him home to his house, saying, Neither goe into the towne, nor tell it to any in the towne.

²⁷ And Iesus went out, and his disciples into the townes of Cesarea Philippi. And by the way hee asked his disciples, saying vnto them, Whome doe men say that I am?

²⁸ And they answered, Some say, Iohn Baptist: and some, Elias: and some, one of the Prophets.

²⁹ And he said vnto them, But whome say ye that I am? Then Peter answered, and saide vnto him, Thou art that Christ.

³⁰ And he sharpely charged them, that concerning him they should tell no man.

³¹ Then hee began to teache them that the Sonne of man must suffer many things, and should be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priestes, and of the Scribes, and be slaine, and within three dayes rise againe.

³² And he spake that thing boldly. Then Peter tooke him aside, and began to rebuke him.

³³ Then he turned backe, and looked on his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behinde me, Satan: for thou vnderstandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

³⁴ And hee called the people vnto him with his disciples, and saide vnto them, Whosoeuer will follow me, let him forsake himselfe, and take vp his crosse, and follow me.

²⁶ And he sent him away to his house, saying, Go not into the village.

²⁷ Afterward Jesus and his disciples went into the villages around Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples this question — “Who do people say that I am?”

²⁸ “John the Baptist,” they answered, “but others say Elijah, while others say one of the prophets.”

²⁹ “But you,” he asked, “who do you say that I am?” To this Peter replied, “You are the Christ.”

³² He spoke to them openly. Peter Rock took him, and began to rebuke him.

³³ But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter Rock, and said, “Get behind me, Satan Adversary! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

³⁴ He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his execution-stake, and follow me.

²⁵ So Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes again. Then the man carefully looked around again, and his eyes were properly better, and he saw everything clearly.

²⁶ Jesus told the man to go straight home. He said, “As you walk home, don’t go into that community. Don’t let anyone see that I made you better.”

²⁷ Then Jesus and his followers left Galilee country and went north to some communities in the country called Caesarea Philippi. As they walked along the track, Jesus asked his followers, “When people talk about me, who do they reckon I really am?”

²⁸ They answered, “Some people reckon you are John the Baptiser come alive again. And other people reckon you are Elijah, that man that lived a long time ago. And other people reckon you are one of those other men that told God’s messages a long time ago.”

²⁹ So Jesus said, “Who do you reckon I really am?” Peter said straight out, “You are the man that God sent to save people. We have to call you Christ.”

³⁰ Jesus told them strongly, “Don’t tell that to anyone yet.”

³¹ Then Jesus told his followers about the bad things that will happen to him. He said, “The elders, the ceremony leaders and the law teachers will reckon I’m no good, even though I’m God’s special man from heaven. That mob will hurt me badly in lots of ways, and they will kill me. I will be dead for 3 days, then I will get up alive again.”

³² Jesus talked straight to them, but Peter couldn’t believe it. He took Jesus away from the others and growled at him for talking that way.

³³ Jesus looked at the other followers there, then he said strongly to Peter, “Go away from me. You are like Satan. You are not thinking God’s way. You are just thinking like a man.”

³⁴ Then Jesus called out to all the people that were there. He called them to come up close, with his followers, and he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow me properly, he has to stop thinking only about himself. He has to live like me. He has to be ready to die, yes, die like a crook on a cross, just like me.

²⁵ After that he put his hondes agayne apon his eyes and made him see. And he was restored to his sight and sawe every man clerly.

²⁶ And he sent him home to his housse sayinge: nether goo into the toune nor tell it to eny in the toune.

²⁷ And Iesus went out and his disciples into the tounes that longe to the cite called Cesarea Philippi. And by the waye he axed his disciples sayinge: whom do men saye that I am?

²⁸ And they answered: some saye that thou arte Iohn Baptiste: some saye Helyas: and some one of the Prophetes.

²⁹ And he sayde vnto them: But whom saye ye that I am? Peter answered and sayd vnto him: Thou arte very Christe.

³⁰ And he charged them that they shuld tell no man of it.

³¹ And he beganne to teache them how that the sonne of man must suffre many thinges and shuld be reproved of the elders and of the hye prestes and scribes and be kylled and after thre dayes aryse agayne.

³² And he spake that sayinge openly. And Peter toke him asyde and began to chyde him.

³³ Then he tourned aboute and looked on his disciples and rebuked Peter sayinge: Goo after me Satan. For thou saverest not the thinges of God but the thinges of men.

³⁴ And he called the people vnto him with his disciples also and sayd vnto them: Whosoever will folowe me let him forsake him sylfe and take vp his crosse and folowe me.

²⁵ Then he again laid his hands upon his eyes, and the man opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw all things clearly.

²⁶ Jesus sent him away to his home and said, “Do not enter the town.”

²⁷ Jesus went out with his disciples into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do the people say that I am?”

²⁸ They answered him and said, “John the Baptist. Others say, 'Elijah,' and others, 'One of the prophets.'”

²⁹ He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said to him, “You are the Christ.”

³⁰ Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

³¹ He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and would be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and would be killed, and after three days rise up.

³² He said this clearly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

³³ But Jesus turned and looked at his disciples and then he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of people.”

³⁴ Then he called the crowd and his disciples together, and he said to them, “If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

³² And he spake openly the word. And Peter took him, and began to blame him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this shall not be.

³³ And he turned, and saw his disciples, and menaced Peter, and said, Go after me, thou Satan; for thou savourest or understandest not those things that be of God, but those things that be of men.

³⁴ And when the people was called together, with his disciples, he said to them, If any man will come after me, deny he himself, and take his cross, and pursue he me or pursue me.

²⁵ Afterward again he set his hands on his eyes, and he began to see, and he was restored, so that he saw clearly all things (or so that he saw everything clearly).

²⁶ And he sent him into his house, and said, Go into thine house; and if thou goest into the street, say to no man.

²⁷ And Jesus entered in and his disciples, into the castles of Caesarea of Philippi. And in the way, he asked his disciples, and said to them, Whom say men that I am? (And Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea of Philippi. And on the way, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that I am?)

²⁸ Which answered to him, and said, Some say, John (the) Baptist; others say, Elias (or Elijah); and others say, as one of the prophets.

²⁹ Then he saith to them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and said to him, Thou art Christ (or Thou art the Messiah).

³⁰ And he charged them, that they should not say of him to any man. (And he commanded them, that they should not say this about him to anyone.)

³¹ And he began to teach them, that it behooveth man’s Son to suffer many things, and to be reproved of the elder men, and of the highest priests, and of the scribes, (or and to be rejected by the elders, and by the high priests, and by the scribes), and to be slain, and after three days, to rise again.

³² And he spake openly the word. And Peter took (hold of) him, and began to blame him or And Peter taking (hold of) him, began to blame him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this shall not be. (And he openly spoke these words. And Peter took hold of him, and began to rebuke him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thyself, do not let this be, or do not let this happen.)

³³ And he turned, and saw his disciples, and menaced Peter (or and threatened Peter), and said (to him), Go after me, thou Satan; for thou savourest not those things that be of God or for thou understandest not those things that be of God, (no) but those things that be of men.

²⁹ Thanne he seith to hem, But whom seien ye that Y am? Petre answeride, and seide to hym, Thou art Crist.

³² And he spak pleynli the word. And Peter took hym, and bigan to blame hym, and seide, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this schal not be.

³³ And he turnede, and saiy hise disciplis, and manasside Petir, and seide, Go after me, Satanas; for thou sauerist not tho thingis that ben of God, but tho thingis that ben of men.

³⁴ And whanne the puple was clepid togidere, with hise disciplis, he seide to hem, If ony man wole come after me, denye he hym silf, and take his cros, and sue he me.

²⁵ Afterwards again he put his hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,

²⁶ and he sent him away to his house, saying, 'Neither to the village mayest thou go, nor tell it to any in the village.'

²⁷ And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, 'Who do men say me to be?'

²⁸ And they answered, 'John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.'

²⁹ And he saith to them, 'And ye — who do ye say me to be?' and Peter answering saith to him, 'Thou art the Christ.'

³⁰ And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,

³¹ and began to teach them, that it behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;

³² and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,

³³ and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, 'Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

³⁴ And having called near the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, 'Whoever doth will to come after me — let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me;
