Mark 8:1-33 in American Standard Version (1901)

1 In those days, when there was again a great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them,
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 and if I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way; and some of them are come from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to fill these men with bread here in a desert place?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commandeth the multitude to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and having blessed them, he commanded to set these also before them.
8 And they ate, and were filled: and they took up, of broken pieces that remained over, seven baskets.
9 And they were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 And straightway he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and again entering into the boat departed to the other side.
14 And they forgot to take bread; and they had not in the boat with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned one with another, saying, We have no bread.
17 And Jesus perceiving it saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? do ye not yet perceive, neither understand? have ye your heart hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces took ye up? And they say unto him, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, Do ye not yet understand?
22 And they come unto Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him.
23 And he took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village; and when he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands upon him, he asked him, Seest thou aught?
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men; for I behold them as trees, walking.
25 Then again he laid his hands upon his eyes; and he looked stedfastly, and was restored, and saw all things clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his home, saying, Do not even enter into the village.
27 And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Cæsarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?
28 And they told him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets.
29 And he asked them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake the saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But he turning about, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

MARK 8 in Revised Version with Apocrypha (1895)

Mark 8:1-33 in Translation for Translators

1 During those days, a large crowd of people gathered again. After they had been there a couple days, they had no food to eat. So Jesus summoned the disciples to come closer and then he said to them,
2 “This is the third day that these people have been with me, and they have nothing left to eat, so now I feel very sorry for them.
3 Furthermore, if I send them home while they are still hungry, some of them will faint on the way home, because some of them have come from far away.”
4 Knowing that he was suggesting that they give the people something to eat, one of his disciples replied, “◄We cannot possibly find food to satisfy this crowd, here in this place where no people live!/How can we find food to satisfy this crowd, here in this place where no people live?►” RHQ
5 Jesus asked them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?” They replied, “ We have seven flat loaves.”
6 Jesus commanded the crowd, “Sit down on the ground!” After they sat down, he took the seven loaves, he thanked God for them, he broke them into pieces and started giving them to his disciples in order that they might distribute them to the people.
7 They found that they also had a few small dried fish. So after he thanked God for these, he told the disciples, “Distribute these also.” After they distributed the bread and fish to the crowd,
8 the people ate this food and they had plenty to satisfy them. The disciples collected the pieces of food that were left over. They filled seven large baskets full of those pieces.
9 They estimated that there were about four thousand people who ate on that day.
10 Then Jesus dismissed the crowd. Immediately after that, he got into the boat along with his disciples, and they went around Lake Galilee to Dalmanutha district.
11 In those days some Pharisees came to Jesus. They asked him to perform a miracle that would show that God had sent him. They wanted to find a way by which they could convince the people to reject him. So they started to argue with him.
12 Jesus sighed quietly to himself, and then he said, “I am disgusted that RHQ, even though you people have seen how I have healed people, you keep asking me to perform miracles! Note this: Such a miracle will certainly not be shown {I will certainly not show such a miracle} just for you people!”
13 Then he left them. He got into the boat again, along with his disciples, and they went further around Lake Galilee.
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring along enough food. Specifically, they had only one flat loaf of bread with them in the boat.
15 As they were going, Jesus warned them against the attitudes the Pharisees and Herod Antipas had, attitudes that were having a bad effect on other people. He did this by telling them a parable. He said, “Be careful! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!”
16 The disciples misunderstood him. So they said to one another, “ He must have said that because we have no bread.”
17 Jesus knew what they were discussing among themselves. So he said to them, “◄ I am disappointed that you are discussing about your not having enough bread!/Why are you discussing about your not having enough bread?► RHQ ◄You should understand by now that I can provide miraculously for you if you need food!/Why do you not yet perceive or understand that I can provide miraculously for you if you need food?► RHQ ◄You are not thinking!/Why are you not thinking?► RHQ
18 ◄I am also disappointed that, although you have eyes, you do not understand what you see!/Why is it that, although you have eyes, you do not understand what you see?► RHQ You have ears, but you do not understand what I say RHQ!” Then he asked, “Do you not remember what happened
19 when I broke only five loaves and fed the five thousand people RHQ? Not only was everyone satisfied, but there was food left over How many baskets full of pieces of bread that were left over did you collect?” They replied, “We collected twelve baskets full.”
20 Then he asked, “When I broke the seven loaves in order to feed the four thousand people, again when everyone had plenty to eat, how many large baskets of pieces of bread that were left over did you collect?” They replied, “ We collected seven large baskets full.”
21 Then he kept saying to them, “◄ I am disappointed that you do not understand yet that you should never worry that you do not have enough food!/Why do you not understand yet that you should never worry that you do not have enough food?►” RHQ
22 They arrived in the boat at Bethsaida town. People brought to Jesus a blind man and earnestly requested that Jesus touch him in order to heal him.
23 Jesus took the hand of the blind man, led him outside the town, he put his saliva on the man's eyes, he put his hands on the man, and then he asked him, “Do you see anything?”
24 The man looked up and then he said, “ Yes, I see people! They are walking around, but I cannot see them clearly. They look like trees!”
25 Then Jesus again touched the eyes of the blind man. The man looked intently and at that moment he was completely healed! He could see everything clearly.
26 Jesus said to him, “Do not go into the town! First go straight home and tell the people there about what I did!” Then he sent the man to his home.
27 Jesus and the disciples left Bethsaida town and went to the villages near Caesarea Philippi town. On the way he questioned them, “Who do people say that I really am?”
28 They replied, “ Some people say that you are John the Baptizer, who has come back to life again. Others say that you are the prophet Elijah who has returned from heaven as God promised. And others say that you are one of the other former prophets who has come back to life again.”
29 He asked them, “What about you? Who do you say that I am?” Peter replied to him, “ We believe that you are the Messiah!”
30 Then Jesus warned them strongly that they should not tell anyone yet that he was the Messiah.
31 Then Jesus began to teach them, “ Even though I am the one who came from heaven, it is necessary that I suffer very much. It is also necessary that I be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the men who teach the Jewish laws {that the elders, the chief priests, and the men who teach the Jewish laws reject me}, and that I be killed {they kill me}. But on the third day after I am killed I will become alive again.”
32 He said this to them clearly. But Peter took Jesus aside and then, because he assumed that the Messiah would never die, he started to rebuke Jesus for talking about dying.
33 Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples. Then he rebuked Peter, saying, “Stop thinking like that! Satan is causing you to talk like that! Instead of wanting what God wants me to do, you are wanting me to do only what most people would want me to do.”

12 He sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
13 He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.
14 They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.
15 He warned them, saying, “Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”
16 They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”
17 Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, “Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet or understand? Is your heart still hardened?
18 Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves amongst the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”
20 “When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Seven.”
21 He asked them, “Don’t you understand yet?”
22 He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch him.
23 He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spat on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.
24 He looked up, and said, “I see men, but I see them like walking trees.”
25 Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.
26 He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”
27 Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”
28 They told him, “John the Baptiser, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets.”
29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”
30 He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.
31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 He spoke to them openly. Peter took him and began to rebuke him.
33 But he, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

Mark 8:1-33 in Bible in Basic English

1 In those days again, when there was a great mass of people and they had no food, he made his disciples come to him and said to them,
2 I have pity for these people because they have been with me now three days, and have no food;
3 If I send them away to their houses with no food, they will be overcome by weariness on the way; and some of them have come from far.
4 And his disciples said in answer, How will it be possible to get enough bread for these men here in a waste place?
5 And he put the question, How much bread have you? And they said, Seven cakes.
6 And he made the people be seated on the earth: and he took the seven cakes and, having given praise, he gave the broken bread to his disciples to put before them; and they put it before the people.
7 And they had some small fishes; and blessing them he had them put before the people in the same way.
8 And they took the food, and had enough; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken bits.
9 And there were about four thousand people: and he sent them away.
10 And he got into the boat with his disciples straight away, and came into the country of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came out and put questions to him, requesting from him a sign from heaven, testing him.
12 And he was very sad in spirit, and said, Why is this generation looking for a sign? truly, I say to you, No sign will be given to this generation.
13 And he went away from them, and again got into the boat and went across to the other side.
14 And they had taken no thought to get bread; and they had only one cake of bread with them in the boat.
15 And he said to them, Take care to be on the watch against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.
16 And they said to one another, We have no bread.
17 And Jesus, hearing it, said to them, Why are you reasoning among yourselves because you have no bread? do you still not see, and is it still not clear to you? are your hearts so hard?
18 Having eyes, do you not see? and having ears, have you no hearing? and have you no memory?
19 When I made a division of the five cakes of bread among the five thousand, what number of baskets full of broken bits did you take up? They said to him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among the four thousand, what number of baskets full of broken bits did you take up? And they said to him, Seven.
21 And he said to them, Is it still not clear to you?
22 And they came to Beth-saida. And they took a blind man to him, requesting him to put his hands on him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and went with him out of the town; and when he had put water from his mouth on his eyes, and put his hands on him, he said, Do you see anything?
24 And looking up, he said, I see men; I see them like trees, walking.
25 Then again he put his hands on his eyes; and looking hard, he was able to see, and saw all things clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Do not even go into the town.
27 And Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the little towns round Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he put a question to his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I am?
28 And they made answer, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets.
29 And he said to them, But who do you say I am? Peter said in answer, You are the Christ.
30 And he put them under orders not to say this of him to anyone.
31 And teaching them, he said that the Son of man would have to undergo much, and be hated by those in authority, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days come back from the dead.
32 And he said this openly. And Peter took him, and was protesting.
33 But he, turning about, and seeing his disciples, said sharply to Peter, Get out of my way, Satan: for your mind is not on the things of God, but on the things of men.

1 In those days, there being again a great crowd, and they having nothing that they could eat, having called his disciples to him, he says to them,
2 I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat,
3 and if I should dismiss them to their home fasting, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a desert place?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke them and gave them to his disciples, that they might set them before them; and they set them before the crowd.
7 And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed them, he desired these also to be set before them.
8 And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up of fragments that remained seven baskets.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away.
10 And immediately going on board ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute against him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

14 And they forgot to take bread, and save one loaf, they had not any with them in the ship.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned with one another, saying, It is because we have no bread.

20 And when the seven for the four thousand, the filling of how many baskets of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said to them, How do ye not yet understand?
22 And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him.
23 And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything.
24 And having looked up, he said, I behold men, for I see them, as trees, walking.
25 Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly.
26 And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell it to any one in the village.
27 And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

29 And he asked them, But ye, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him.
31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spoke the thing openly. And Peter, taking him to him, began to rebuke him.

Mark 8:1-33 in The New Testament with Commentary

1 In those days, the multitude being very large and not having anything to eat, Jesus called His disciples and said to them:
2 “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me three days now and have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will give out on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered Him, “From what source could anyone satisfy these people with bread here in a wilderness?”
5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”
6 So He told the crowd to sit down on the ground; then taking the seven loaves and giving thanks, He broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before the crowd, and they did.
7 They also had a few small fish; so blessing them He said to distribute them as well.
8 Well they ate and were filled; they even took up seven hampers of broken pieces that were left over.
9 Now those who had eaten were about four thousand; and He sent them away.
10 Then He got right into the boat with His disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, requesting of Him a sign from heaven, by way of testing Him.
12 But He sighed deeply in His spirit and said: “Why does this generation seek a sign? I tell you emphatically, no sign shall be given to this generation!”
13 Turning His back on them, He got back into the boat and went off to the other side.
14 (His disciples had forgotten to take bread; they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.)
15 And He charged them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
16 So they started reasoning among themselves, saying, “It's because we have no bread.”
17 Being aware of it Jesus said to them: “Why are you reasoning because you have no bread? Do you still neither perceive nor understand? Do you still have hearts that have been hardened?
18 Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear, and do you not remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you take up?” They say to Him, “Twelve.”
20 “And when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many hampers full of pieces did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.”
21 So He said to them, “How is it that you still don't understand?”
22 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him and begged Him to touch him.
23 So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; then spitting into his eyes and laying hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.
24 And looking up he said, “I do see men, only they look like walking trees.”
25 Then He put His hands on his eyes again, and made him look up; and he was restored and saw everyone clearly.
26 Then He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither go into the village nor tell anyone in the village.”
27 Then Jesus and His disciples set out for the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who are people saying that I am?”
28 So they answered, “John the Baptist; others Elijah; still others one of the prophets.”
29 He said to them, “And who do you say that I am?” So Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ!”
30 Then He charged them that they should tell no one about Him.
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of the Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 He said these things quite plainly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
33 But He turned, looked at His disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying: “Get behind me, Satan! You have in mind men's values, not God's values.”

Mark 8:1-33 in Free Bible Version

1 Around this time there was another large crowd that had nothing to eat. Jesus called the disciples together and told them,
2 “I feel for the crowd because they have already stayed with me for three days and they have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them home without food, they'll faint on the way. Some have come from a long way away.”
4 “Where could anybody find enough bread to feed them here in this wilderness?” answered his disciples.
5 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves of bread, and gave thanks. He broke the bread and handed the pieces to his disciples to give to the crowd.
7 They had a few fish as well, so having blessed them, he said, “Take these and share them too.”
8 They ate until they were full, and then collected up seven baskets of leftovers.
9 There were four thousand people there. After sending them on their way,
10 Jesus climbed into a boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees arrived and began to argue with him, wanting him to give them a miraculous sign from heaven, trying to get him to prove himself.
12 Jesus sighed deeply, and asked, “Why do you people want a sign? I tell you the truth: I will not give you a sign.”
13 So he left them behind, climbed into the boat, and went back across the lake.
14 But the disciples had forgotten to bring bread with them. All they had in the boat was one loaf.
15 “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod!” he warned them.
16 “He's saying that because we don't have any bread,” they concluded.
17 Jesus knew what they were saying, and said, “Why are you talking about not having any bread? Are you still not thinking and not understanding? Have you closed your minds?
18 You've got eyes to see, haven't you? And ears to hear?
19 Don't you remember when I shared five loaves among five thousand? How many basketfuls of leftovers did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied.
20 “And the seven loaves divided among four thousand. How many basketfuls of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they answered.
21 “Do you still not understand?” he asked them.
22 They went to Bethsaida where some people brought a blind man to Jesus. They begged Jesus to touch him and heal him.
23 Jesus took the blind man by the hand and took him outside the village. Jesus spat on the man's eyes and touched him with his hands. Then Jesus asked him, “Can you see anything?”
24 The man looked around, and said, “I can see people, but they look like trees walking.”
25 So Jesus touched the man's eyes again. He could see properly—he was cured and his sight was clear.
26 Jesus sent the man home, and told him, “Don't go back through the village.”
27 Jesus and his disciples left to go to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?”
28 “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, others say one of the prophets,” they replied.
29 “But who do you say I am?” he asked them. “You are the Messiah!” Peter answered.
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anybody about him.
31 Then Jesus began to explain to them that the Son of man would suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and religious teachers. He would be killed, but three days later would rise again.
32 Jesus explained this to them very clearly. But Peter took Jesus aside and started to reprimand him for what he said.
33 Jesus turned around and looking at his disciples, reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan,” he said. “You're not thinking as God thinks, but as human beings do.”

3 And if I sende them away fasting to their owne houses, they woulde faint by the way: for some of them came from farre.
4 Then his disciples answered him, Whence can a man satisfie these with bread here in the wildernes?
5 And hee asked them, Howe many loaues haue ye? And they said, Seuen.
6 Then he commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grounde: and hee tooke the seuen loaues, and gaue thankes, brake them, and gaue to his disciples to set before them, and they did set them before the people.
7 They had also a few small fishes: and when he had giuen thankes, he commanded them also to be set before them.

11 And the Pharises came foorth, and began to dispute with him, seeking of him a signe from heauen, and tempting him.
12 Then hee sighed deepely in his spirit, and saide, Why doeth this generation seeke a signe? Verely I say vnto you, a signe shall not be giuen vnto this generation.
13 So he left them, and went into the ship againe, and departed to the other side.
14 And they had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the shippe with them, but one loafe.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heede, and beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the leauen of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is, because we haue no bread.
17 And when Iesus knew it, he said vnto them, Why reason you thus, because ye haue no bread? perceiue ye not yet, neither vnderstande? haue ye your hearts yet hardened?
18 Haue yee eyes, and see not? and haue yee eares, and heare not? and doe ye not remember?
19 When I brake the fiue loaues among fiue thousand, how many baskets full of broken meate tooke ye vp? They said vnto him, Twelue.
20 And when I brake seuen among foure thousande, howe many baskets of the leauings of broken meate tooke ye vp? And they said, Seuen.
21 Then he saide vnto them, Howe is it that ye vnderstand not?
22 And hee came to Bethsaida, and they brought a blinde man vnto him, and desired him to touch him.
23 Then he tooke the blinde by the hand, and ledde him out of the towne, and spat in his eyes, and put his handes vpon him, and asked him, if he sawe ought.
24 And he looked vp, and said, I see men: for I see them walking like trees.
25 After that, he put his hands againe vpon his eyes, and made him looke againe. And hee was restored to his sight, and sawe euery man a farre off clearely.
26 And hee sent him home to his house, saying, Neither goe into the towne, nor tell it to any in the towne.
27 And Iesus went out, and his disciples into the townes of Cesarea Philippi. And by the way hee asked his disciples, saying vnto them, Whome doe men say that I am?
28 And they answered, Some say, Iohn Baptist: and some, Elias: and some, one of the Prophets.
29 And he said vnto them, But whome say ye that I am? Then Peter answered, and saide vnto him, Thou art that Christ.
30 And he sharpely charged them, that concerning him they should tell no man.
31 Then hee began to teache them that the Sonne of man must suffer many things, and should be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priestes, and of the Scribes, and be slaine, and within three dayes rise againe.
32 And he spake that thing boldly. Then Peter tooke him aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 Then he turned backe, and looked on his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behinde me, Satan: for thou vnderstandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 and if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

Mark 8:1-33 in Nyangumarta English Bible

1 Again one day many people gathered together in the desert. They were listening to Jesus. After that their food ran out (lit. 'became nothing for them'). Jesus called his men, he said to them,
2 “These people have been with me a long time, three days. Now their food has run out. I feel sorry for them.
3 I will not send them away to their countries hungry. When they go they would fall down with hunger. They have come from a long way.”
4 His men said to him, “This countryside has no food. Who will search here and get food for all those people? They are truly very many.”
5 Jesus asked them, “How many dampers do you have?” They replied, “7 small dampers.”
6 They also had a few small fish. Jesus said to them, “Tell them to sit on the ground.” After that he picked up the dampers, the fish also, he said to God, “You are the one who gave us this food. Thank you! You have helped us! You are good!” Then he broke the dampers into pieces, he gave them to his men, he gave them the fish also, the said to them, “Give this food and meat to them.” That's what they did.
8 At that time very many people ate, 4,000 men ate till they were full. Then Jesus told them, “Yes, off you go to your own countries.” After that Jesus' men picked up the leftovers, they filled 7 big carrying dishes with leftovers.
10 After that Jesus got into the dinghy, his men also, they went to that country Dalmanutha.
22 Jesus went to that town Bethsaida. Some people brought to him a man on a lead, he was truly blind, he could not see. They begged Jesus, “Touch him to make him well.”
23 Jesus took the blind man by the hand to outside the town. He spat on his own hand, he touched the spit, he put it on the man's eyes, he asked him, “Do you see?”
24 The man looked around a bit, he said to him, “I see people blurrily. I think they look like trees. My eyes deceive me. They are not trees. They have been walking around.”
25 Again Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. The man was looking carefully, he saw well.
26 Jesus sent him to his camp. He told him, “Do not go to that town, do not tell them I did this for you.”

33 But he turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan! for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.

1 About that time, when there was again a great crowd of people who had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him, and said,
2 “My heart is moved at the sight of all these people, for they have already been with me three days and they have nothing to eat;
3 and if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will break down on the way; and some of them have come a long distance.”
4 “Where will it be possible,” his disciples answered, “to get sufficient bread for these people in this lonely place?”
5 “How many loaves have you?” he asked. “Seven,” they answered.
6 Jesus told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve out; and they served them out to the crowd.
7 They had also a few small fish; and, after he had said the blessing, he told the disciples to serve out these as well.
8 The people had sufficient to eat, and they picked up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left.
9 There were about four thousand people. Then Jesus dismissed them.
10 Immediately afterward, getting into the boat with his disciples, Jesus went to the district of Dalmanutha.
11 Here the Pharisees came out, and began to argue with Jesus, asking him for some sign from the heavens, to test him.
12 Sighing deeply, Jesus said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? I tell you, no sign will be given it.”
13 So he left them to themselves, and, getting into the boat again, went away to the opposite shore.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take any bread with them, one loaf being all that they had in the boat.
15 So Jesus gave them this warning. “Take care,” he said, “beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
16 They began talking to one another about their being short of bread;
17 and, noticing this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about your being short of bread? Don't you yet see or understand? Are your minds still so slow or comprehension?
18 Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear? Don't you remember,
19 when I broke up the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of broken pieces you picked up?” “Twelve,” they said.
20 “And when the seven for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you pick up?” “Seven,” they said.
21 “Don't you understand now?” he repeated.
22 They came to Bethsaida. There some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and begged him to touch him.
23 Taking the blind man's hand, Jesus led him to the outskirts of the village, and, when he had put saliva on the man's eyes, he placed his hands on him, and asked him, “Do you see anything?”
24 The man looked up, and said, “I see the people, for, as they walk about, they look to me like trees.”
25 Then Jesus again placed his hands on the man's eyes; and the man saw clearly, his sight was restored, and he saw everything with perfect distinctness.
26 Jesus sent him to his home, and said, “Do not go even into the village.”
27 Afterward Jesus and his disciples went into the villages around Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples this question — “Who do people say that I am?”

30 At which Jesus charged them not to say this about him to anyone.
31 Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo much suffering, and that he must be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law, and be put to death, and rise again after three days.
32 He said all this quite openly. But Peter took Jesus aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 Jesus, however, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter. “Out of my sight, Satan!” he exclaimed. “For you look at things, not as God does, but as people do.”

Mark 8:1-33 in Plain English Version

1 Jesus kept on teaching the people in that country. A big mob of people stayed there and listened to him for 3 days, and in that time they finished up all their food.
2 Jesus called his followers to come to him and said, “I feel really sorry for this mob. They are hungry and they’ve got nothing to eat.
3 I can’t send them home like this. Some of them have walked a long way to get here and if they start walking home now they will get weak and fall down. We have to give them some food.”
4 The followers of Jesus said, “Hey, this is a really big mob of people. We can’t get enough food out here in the bush to feed them all.”
5 Jesus said, “How much bread have you got?” The men answered, “7 loaves of bread.”
6 Then Jesus told the people to sit down on the ground. Then he picked up the 7 loaves and said, “Thank you God for this bread.” Then Jesus broke it up and gave it to his followers, and they gave it out to all the people.
7 Somebody had some small fish and gave them to Jesus, and again he said, “Thank you God for these fish.” Then Jesus gave the fish to his followers to give out to the people.
8 They all ate and ate until they were full. There was a lot left over. The people picked up all the bits from the ground and they filled up 7 baskets with food.
9 After the people finished that feed Jesus told them to go home. There were 4,000 people in that big mob that had a feed that day.
10 Straight away Jesus and his close followers got into a boat and went to a place called Dalmanutha, on the other side of the lake.
11 There were some Jewish law men called Pharisees there at that place. They heard people say that Jesus was there and they came to talk to him. They wanted to trick him, so they started to argue with him. They asked him, “Can you do something special with power, to show that God sent you?”
12 Jesus was a little bit upset. He breathed deeply and said, “You mob that are alive today always want to see something powerful before you will believe that God sent me. Listen, I’m telling you straight, I will not do anything powerful for you mob here now.”
13 Then Jesus and his followers walked away from those Pharisees and got into a boat and went across to the other side of the lake.
14 But Jesus’s followers didn’t buy any food at Dalmanutha. They forgot to do it. Then, in the boat half way across the lake, they remembered about it. They looked into their food bag and saw that they only had one loaf of bread.
15 Jesus talked to his followers. He said, “You know that we put that yeast into flour to make it rise up, to make it into bread. Well, I’m telling you this, stay away from the yeast that comes from those Pharisee law men, and stay away from the yeast that comes from the big boss called King Herod.”
16 The men didn’t understand what Jesus meant, and they started to talk to each other about it. They said, “We didn’t get enough bread for the trip, so now he’s growling at us.”
17 Jesus knew what they said to each other, and he said, “Why are you mob arguing about bread? You still haven’t learned about me. You don’t understand me. Maybe your minds are closed.
18 You’ve got eyes but you don’t look. You’ve got ears but you don’t listen. You don’t remember anything, do you?
19 Do you remember the time we had 5 loaves of bread and I gave food to 5,000 men? How many baskets of left over bits did you pick up?” The men said, “12 baskets full.”
20 Then Jesus said, “Do you remember the time we had 7 loaves of bread and I gave food to 4,000 people? How many baskets of left over bits did you pick up?” The men said, “7 baskets full.”
21 Jesus asked them, “So how come you still don’t understand about me?”
22 Jesus and his followers came to a place called Bethsaida on the west side of Lake Galilee, and they got out of the boat. Some people brought a blind man up to him and asked Jesus to touch him and make him better.
23 Jesus held the man’s hand and led him outside the community. Then Jesus spat on the man’s eyes and then put his hands on him and said, “Can you see anything now?”
24 The man looked around and said, “Yes, I can see a little bit. I can see people, but they look like trees walking around.”
25 So Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes again. Then the man carefully looked around again, and his eyes were properly better, and he saw everything clearly.
26 Jesus told the man to go straight home. He said, “As you walk home, don’t go into that community. Don’t let anyone see that I made you better.”
27 Then Jesus and his followers left Galilee country and went north to some communities in the country called Caesarea Philippi. As they walked along the track, Jesus asked his followers, “When people talk about me, who do they reckon I really am?”
28 They answered, “Some people reckon you are John the Baptiser come alive again. And other people reckon you are Elijah, that man that lived a long time ago. And other people reckon you are one of those other men that told God’s messages a long time ago.”
29 So Jesus said, “Who do you reckon I really am?” Peter said straight out, “You are the man that God sent to save people. We have to call you Christ.”
30 Jesus told them strongly, “Don’t tell that to anyone yet.”
31 Then Jesus told his followers about the bad things that will happen to him. He said, “The elders, the ceremony leaders and the law teachers will reckon I’m no good, even though I’m God’s special man from heaven. That mob will hurt me badly in lots of ways, and they will kill me. I will be dead for 3 days, then I will get up alive again.”
32 Jesus talked straight to them, but Peter couldn’t believe it. He took Jesus away from the others and growled at him for talking that way.
33 Jesus looked at the other followers there, then he said strongly to Peter, “Go away from me. You are like Satan. You are not thinking God’s way. You are just thinking like a man.”

Mark 8 in Tyndale New Testament

Mark 8:1-33 in Unlocked Literal Bible

1 In those days, there was again a great crowd, and they had nothing to eat. Jesus called his disciples and said to them,
2 “I have compassion on the crowd, because they continue to be with me already for three days and have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them away to their home without eating, they may faint on the way. Some of them have come a long way.”
4 His disciples answered him, “Where can we get enough loaves of bread in such a deserted place to satisfy these people?”
5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.”
6 He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. He took the seven loaves, gave thanks, and broke them. He gave them to his disciples to set before them, and they set them before the crowd.
7 They also had a few small fish, and after he gave thanks for them, he commanded the disciples to serve these as well.
8 They ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the remaining broken pieces, seven large baskets.
9 There were about four thousand people. Then he sent them away.
10 Immediately he got into the boat with his disciples, and they went into the region of Dalmanutha.
11 Then the Pharisees came out and began to argue with him. They sought from him a sign from heaven, to test him.
12 He sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
13 Then he left them, got into a boat again, and went away to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread with them. They had no more than one loaf of bread in the boat.
15 He warned them and said, “Keep watch and be on guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”
16 The disciples reasoned with each other, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Jesus was aware of this, and he said to them, “Why are you reasoning about not having bread? Do you not yet perceive? Do you not understand? Have your hearts become so dull?
18 You have eyes, do you not see? You have ears, do you not hear? Do you not remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces of bread did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.”
20 “When I broke the seven loaves among the four thousand, how many basketfuls did you take up?” They said to him, “Seven.”
21 He said, “Do you not yet understand?”
22 They came to Bethsaida. The people there brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
23 Jesus took hold of the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up, and said, “I see men who look like walking trees.”
25 Then he again laid his hands upon his eyes, and the man opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw all things clearly.
26 Jesus sent him away to his home and said, “Do not enter the town.”
27 Jesus went out with his disciples into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do the people say that I am?”
28 They answered him and said, “John the Baptist. Others say, 'Elijah,' and others, 'One of the prophets.'”
29 He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said to him, “You are the Christ.”
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and would be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and would be killed, and after three days rise up.
32 He said this clearly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But Jesus turned and looked at his disciples and then he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of people.”

1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples, and saith to them,
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for some of them came from a distance.
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and broke, and gave to his disciples to set before them ; and they set them before the people.

1 In those days, when much people was with Jesus, and had not what they should eat, when his disciples were called together, he said to them,
2 I have ruth on the people, for lo! now the third day they abide me, and they have not what to eat;
3 and if I leave them fasting into their houses, they shall fail in the way; for some of them came from far.
4 And his disciples answered to him, Whereof shall a man be able to fill them with loaves here in wilder-ness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? Which said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the earth. And he took the seven loaves, and did thankings, and brake, and gave to his disciples, that they should set forth. And they setted forth to the people.
7 And they had a few small fishes; and he blessed them, and commanded, that they were set forth.
8 And they ate, and were fulfilled or were filled; and they took up that that was left of the remnants, seven baskets.
9 And they that ate, were as four thousand of men; and he left them.
10 And anon he went up into a boat, with his disciples, and came into the coasts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees went out, and began to dispute with him, and asked a token of him from heaven, and tempted him.
12 And he sorrowing within in spirit, said, What seeketh this generation a token, or a sign, either miracle? Truly I say to you, a token or a sign shall not be given to this generation.
13 And he left them, and went up again into a boat, and went over the sea.
14 And they forgot to take bread, and they had not with them but one loaf in the boat.
15 And he commanded to them, and said, See ye, and beware of the sourdough of the Pharisees, and of the sourdough of Herod.
16 And they thought, and said one to another, For we have not loaves or bread.
17 And when this thing was known, Jesus said to them, What think ye, for ye have not loaves? or bread? Yet ye know not, neither understand; yet ye have your heart blinded.
18 Ye having eyes, see not, and ye having ears, hear not; neither ye have mind,
19 when I brake five loaves among five thousand, and how many coffins full of broken meat took ye up? They said to him, Twelve.
20 When also seven loaves among four thousand of men, how many baskets full of broken meat took ye up? And they say to him, Seven.
21 And he said to them, How understand ye not yet?
22 And they came to Bethsaida, and they brought to him a blind man, and they prayed him, that he would touch him.
23 And when he had taken the blind man’s hand, he led him out of the street, and he spat into his eyes, and set his hands on him; and he asked him, if he saw anything.
24 And he beheld, and said, I see men as trees walking.
25 Afterward again he set his hands on his eyes, and he began to see, and he was restored, so that he saw clearly all things.
26 And he sent him into his house, and said, Go into thine house; and if thou goest into the street, say to no man.
27 And Jesus entered in and his disciples, into the castles of Caesarea of Philippi. And in the way, he asked his disciples, and said to them, Whom say men that I am?
28 Which answered to him, and said, Some say, John Baptist; others say, Elijah; and others say, as one of the prophets.
29 Then he saith to them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and said to him, Thou art Christ.
30 And he charged them, that they should not say of him to any man.
31 And he began to teach them, that it behooveth man’s Son to suffer many things, and to be reproved of the elder men, and of the highest priests, and of the scribes, and to be slain, and after three days, to rise again.
32 And he spake openly the word. And Peter took him, and began to blame him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this shall not be.
33 And he turned, and saw his disciples, and menaced Peter, and said, Go after me, thou Satan; for thou savourest or understandest not those things that be of God, but those things that be of men.

11 And the Pharisees went out, and began to dispute with him, and asked a token of him from heaven, and tempted him. (And the Pharisees went out, and began to argue with him, and asked him for a sign from heaven, and tested him.)
12 And he sorrowing within in spirit, said, What seeketh this generation a token, or a sign, either (a) miracle? Truly I say to you, a token or a sign shall not be given to this generation. (And he sorrowing within himself, said, Why seeketh this generation a sign? I tell you the truth, a sign shall not be given to this generation.)
13 And he left them, and went up again into a boat, and went over the sea (or and went over the lake).
14 And they forgot to take bread, and they had not with them no but one loaf in the boat.
15 And he commanded to them, and said, See ye, and beware of the sourdough of the Pharisees, and of the sourdough of Herod. (And he said to them, Watch out, and beware of the yeast, or the leaven, of the Pharisees, and of the yeast, or the leaven, of Herod.)
16 And they thought, and said one to another, For we have not (brought any) loaves or For we have not (brought any) bread.
17 And when this thing was known, Jesus said to them, What think ye, for ye have not loaves? (or Why do ye think about, or talk about, not having any bread?) Yet ye know not, neither understand; yet ye have your heart(s) blinded.
18 Ye having eyes, see not, and ye having ears, hear not; neither ye have mind (or nor ye remember),
19 when I brake five loaves among five thousand, and how many coffins full of broken meat took ye up? (or and how many baskets full of pieces of food did ye gather up?) They said to him, Twelve.
20 When also seven loaves among four thousand of men, how many baskets full of broken meat took ye up? (or how many baskets full of pieces of food did ye gather up?) And they say to him, Seven.
21 And he said to them, How understand ye not yet?
22 And they came to Bethsaida, and they brought to him a blind man, and they prayed him, that he would touch him.
23 And when he had taken the blind man’s hand, he led him out of the street (or he led him out of the village), and he spat into his eyes, and set his hands on him; and he asked him, if he saw anything.
24 And he beheld, and said, I see men as trees walking (about).
25 Afterward again he set his hands on his eyes, and he began to see, and he was restored, so that he saw clearly all things (or so that he saw everything clearly).
26 And he sent him into his house, and said, Go into thine house; and if thou goest into the street, say to no man.
27 And Jesus entered in and his disciples, into the castles of Caesarea of Philippi. And in the way, he asked his disciples, and said to them, Whom say men that I am? (And Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea of Philippi. And on the way, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that I am?)
28 Which answered to him, and said, Some say, John (the) Baptist; others say, Elias (or Elijah); and others say, as one of the prophets.
29 Then he saith to them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and said to him, Thou art Christ (or Thou art the Messiah).
30 And he charged them, that they should not say of him to any man. (And he commanded them, that they should not say this about him to anyone.)
31 And he began to teach them, that it behooveth man’s Son to suffer many things, and to be reproved of the elder men, and of the highest priests, and of the scribes, (or and to be rejected by the elders, and by the high priests, and by the scribes), and to be slain, and after three days, to rise again.
32 And he spake openly the word. And Peter took (hold of) him, and began to blame him or And Peter taking (hold of) him, began to blame him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this shall not be. (And he openly spoke these words. And Peter took hold of him, and began to rebuke him, and said, Lord, be thou merciful to thyself, do not let this be, or do not let this happen.)
33 And he turned, and saw his disciples, and menaced Peter (or and threatened Peter), and said (to him), Go after me, thou Satan; for thou savourest not those things that be of God or for thou understandest not those things that be of God, (no) but those things that be of men.

Mark 8 in Wycliffe Bible

Mark 8:1-33 in Young's Literal Translation

1 In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near his disciples, saith to them,
2 'I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they do continue with me, and they have not what they may eat;
3 and if I shall let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.'
4 And his disciples answered him, 'Whence shall any one be able these here to feed with bread in a wilderness?'
5 And he was questioning them, 'How many loaves have ye?' and they said, 'Seven.'
6 And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he brake, and was giving to his disciples that they may set before them; and they did set before the multitude.
7 And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, he said to set them also before them;
8 and they did eat and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces — seven baskets;
9 and those eating were about four thousand. And he let them away,
10 and immediately having entered into the boat with his disciples, he came to the parts of Dalmanutha,
11 and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with him, seeking from him a sign from the heaven, tempting him;
12 and having sighed deeply in his spirit, he saith, 'Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.'
13 And having left them, having entered again into the boat, he went away to the other side;
14 and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat,
15 and he was charging them, saying, 'Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,'
16 and they were reasoning with one another, saying — 'Because we have no loaves.'
17 And Jesus having known, saith to them, 'Why do ye reason, because ye have no loaves? do ye not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have ye your heart hardened?
18 Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? and do ye not remember?
19 When the five loaves I did brake to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?' they say to him, 'Twelve.'
20 'And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took ye up?' and they said, 'Seven.'
21 And he said to them, 'How do ye not understand?'
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida, and they bring to him one blind, and call upon him that he may touch him,
23 and having taken the hand of the blind man, he led him forth without the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put his hands on him, he was questioning him if he doth behold anything:
24 and he, having looked up, said, 'I behold men, as I see trees, walking.'
25 Afterwards again he put his hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,
26 and he sent him away to his house, saying, 'Neither to the village mayest thou go, nor tell it to any in the village.'
27 And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, 'Who do men say me to be?'
28 And they answered, 'John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.'
29 And he saith to them, 'And ye — who do ye say me to be?' and Peter answering saith to him, 'Thou art the Christ.'
30 And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,
31 and began to teach them, that it behoveth the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;
32 and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,
33 and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, 'Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'
