Help us?

Mark 7:5-35 in American Standard Version (1901)

5 And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands?
6 And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me.
7 But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.
8 Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men.
9 And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death:
11 but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God;
12 ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother;
13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.
14 And he called to him the multitude again, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand:
15 there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.
17 And when he was entered into the house from the multitude, his disciples asked of him the parable.
18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, it cannot defile him;
19 because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean.
20 And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,
22 covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:
23 all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.
24 And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hid.
25 But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.
26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.
27 And he said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.
28 But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And she went away unto her house, and found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.
31 And again he went out from the borders of Tyre, and came through Sidon unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to lay his hand upon him.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue;
34 and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

Mark 7:5-35 in Translation for Translators

5 That day, those Pharisees and men who taught the Jewish laws saw that some of his disciples were eating food with hands that they had not washed using the special ritual. So they questioned Jesus, saying, “ Your disciples disobey the traditions of our ancestors! ◄You should not let them eat food if they have not washed their hands using our special ritual!/Why do you let them eat food if they have not washed their hands using our special ritual?► RHQ”
6 Jesus said to them, “Isaiah rebuked your ancestors, and his words describe very well you people who only pretend to be good! He wrote these words that God said: These people speak as if they honor me, but they SYN really do not think about honoring me at all.
7 It is useless for them to worship me, because they teach only what people have commanded as if I myself had commanded them.
8 You, like your ancestors, refuse to do what God has commanded. Instead, you follow only the traditions that ◄others/your ancestors► have taught.”
9 Jesus also said to them, “ You think IRO that you are clever in refusing to do what God commanded just so that you can obey your own traditions!
10 For example, our ancestor Moses wrote God's command, ‘Honor your fathers and your mothers’. He also wrote, ‘ The authorities must execute a person who speaks evil about his father or mother.’
11 But you teach people that it is all right that people no longer must help their parents. You teach people that it is all right if people give their things to God instead of giving them to their parents. You allow them to say to their parents, ‘What I was going to give to you to provide for you, I have now promised to give to God. So I cannot any longer help you!’ As a result, you are actually telling people that they no longer have to help their parents!
13 And, by doing that, you disregard what God commanded! You teach your own traditions to others and tell them strongly that they should obey them And you do many other things like that.”
14 Then Jesus again summoned the crowd to come closer. Then he said to them figuratively, “All of you people listen to me! Try to understand DOU what I am about to tell you.
15 Nothing that people eat causes God to consider them to be unacceptable. On the contrary, it is that which comes from people's ◄inner beings/hearts► that causes God to reject them.”
17 After Jesus had left the crowd and then entered a house with the disciples, they asked him about the parable that he had just spoken.
18 He replied, “◄ I am disappointed that you also do not understand what it means!/Why can you not understand what it means?► RHQ ◄You ought to understand that nothing that enters us from outside can cause God to consider us unacceptable to him./Can you not understand that nothing that enters us from outside of us can cause God to consider us unacceptable to him?► RHQ
19 Instead of entering and ruining our minds/souls, it goes into our stomachs, and afterwards the refuse passes out of our bodies.” By saying this, Jesus was declaring that people can eat any food without causing God to reject them.
20 He also said, “It is the thoughts and actions that come from within people that cause God to consider them unacceptable to him.
21 Specifically, it is people's innermost being that causes them to think things that are evil; they act immorally, they steal things, they commit murder.
22 They commit adultery, they are greedy, they act maliciously, they deceive people. They act indecently, they envy people, they speak evil about others, they are proud, and they act foolishly.
23 People think these thoughts and then they do these evil actions, and that is what causes God to consider them unacceptable to him.”
24 After Jesus and his disciples left Galilee district, they went to the region around Tyre. While he stayed at a certain house, he desired that no one know it, but people soon found out that he was there.
25 A certain woman, whose daughter had an evil spirit within her, heard about Jesus. At once she came to him and prostrated herself at his feet.
26 This woman was not a Jew. Her ancestors came from Greece country, but she was born in the region around Phoenicia town in Syria district. She pleaded with Jesus that he expel the evil spirit from her daughter.
27 But he wanted to see how strongly she believed in him. So, suggesting that he should help the Jews first and not the non-Jews whom some Jews called dogs MET, he spoke to her saying, “First let the children eat all they want, because it is not good for someone to take the food the mother has prepared for the children and then throw it to the little dogs.”
28 But to show that she believed that non-Jews could also receive help from God MET, she replied to him, “Sir, what you say is correct, but even the little dogs, which lie under the table, eat the crumbs that the children drop.”
29 Jesus said to her, “Because of what you have said, you have shown me that you believe in what I can do for you. So I will help you. Now you may go home, because I have caused the evil spirit to leave your daughter.”
30 The woman returned to her house and saw that her child was lying quietly on the bed and that the evil spirit had left.
31 Jesus and his disciples left the region around Tyre city and went north through Sidon city, then toward the east through the district of the Ten Towns, and then south to the towns near Lake Galilee.
32 There, people brought to him a man who was deaf and who could hardly talk. They begged Jesus to lay his hands on him in order to heal him.
33 So Jesus took him away from the crowd in order that the two of them could be alone. Then he put one of his fingers into each of the man's ears. After he spat on his fingers, he touched the man's tongue with his fingers.
34 Then he looked up toward heaven, he sighed because he was concerned for the man, and then in his own language he said to the man's ears, “Ephphatha”, which means, “Be opened {Open up}!”.
35 At once the man could hear plainly MTY. He also began to speak clearly because what was causing him to be unable to speak was healed {Jesus healed what was causing him to be unable to speak}.

30 She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.
31 Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee through the middle of the region of Decapolis.
32 They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him.
33 He took him aside from the multitude privately and put his fingers into his ears; and he spat and touched his tongue.
34 Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”
35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly.

Mark 7:5-35 in Bible in Basic English

5 And the Pharisees and the scribes put the question to him, Why do your disciples not keep the rules of the fathers, but take their bread with unwashed hands?
6 And he said, Well did Isaiah say of you, you false ones: These people give me honour with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 But their worship is to no purpose, while they give as their teaching the rules of men.
8 For, turning away from the law of God, you keep the rules of men.
9 And he said to them, Truly you put on one side the law of God, so that you may keep the rules which have been handed down to you.
10 For Moses said, Give honour to your father and mother, and, He who says evil of father or mother, let him have the punishment of death:
11 But you say, If a man says to his father or his mother, That by which you might have had profit from me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God,
12 You no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of no effect by your rule, which you have given: and a number of other such things you do.
14 And turning to the people again, he said to them, Give ear to me all of you, and let my words be clear to you:
15 There is nothing outside the man which, going into him, is able to make him unclean: but the things which come out of the man are those which make the man unclean.
17 And when he had gone into the house away from all the people, his disciples put questions to him about the saying.
18 And he said to them, Have even you so little wisdom? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside is not able to make him unclean,
19 Because it goes not into the heart but into the stomach, and goes out with the waste? He said this, making all food clean.
20 And he said, That which comes out of the man, that makes the man unclean.
21 Because from inside, from the heart of men, come evil thoughts and unclean pleasures,
22 The taking of goods and of life, broken faith between husband and wife, the desire of wealth, wrongdoing, deceit, sins of the flesh, an evil eye, angry words, pride, foolish acts:
23 All these evil things come from inside, and make the man unclean.
24 And he went away from there to the country of Tyre and Sidon. And he went into a house, desiring that no man might have knowledge of it: and he was not able to keep it secret.
25 But a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having had news of him, came straight away and went down at his feet.
26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-phoenician by birth: and she made a request to him that he would send the evil spirit out of her daughter.
27 And he said to her, Let the children first have their food: for it is not right to take the children's bread and give it to the dogs.
28 But she said to him in answer, Yes, Lord: even the dogs under the table take the bits dropped by the children.
29 And he said to her, For this saying go your way; the evil spirit has gone out of your daughter.
30 And she went away to her house, and saw the child on the bed, and the evil spirit gone out.
31 And again he went out from Tyre, and came through Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the country of Decapolis.
32 And they came to him with one who had no power of hearing and had trouble in talking; and they made a request to him to put his hands on him.
33 And he took him on one side from the people privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he put water from his mouth on the man's tongue with his finger;
34 And looking up to heaven, he took a deep breath, and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be open.
35 And his ears became open, and the band of his tongue was made loose, and his words became clear.

Mark 7:5-35 in Darby Translation

5 then the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why do thy disciples not walk according to what has been delivered by the ancients, but eat the bread with defiled hands?
6 But he answering said to them, Well did Esaias prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me.
7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as their teachings commandments of men.
8 For, leaving the commandment of God, ye hold what is delivered by men to keep — washings of vessels and cups, and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said to them, Well do ye set aside the commandment of God, that ye may observe what is delivered by yourselves to keep.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, he who speaks ill of father or mother, let him surely die.
11 But ye say, If a man say to his father or his mother, It is corban (that is, gift), whatsoever thou mightest have profit from me by...
12 And ye no longer suffer him to do anything for his father or his mother;
13 making void the word of God by your traditional teaching which ye have delivered; and many such like things ye do.
14 And having called again the crowd, he said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand:
15 There is nothing from outside a man entering into him which can defile him; but the things which go out from him, those it is which defile the man.
16 If any one have ears to hear, let him hear.
17 And when he went indoors from the crowd, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18 And he says to them, Are ye also thus unintelligent? Do ye not perceive that all that is outside entering into the man cannot defile him,
19 because it does not enter into his heart but into his belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats?
20 And he said, That which goes forth out of the man, that defiles the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, go forth evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 thefts, covetousness, wickednesses, deceit, licentiousness, a wicked eye, injurious language, haughtiness, folly;
23 all these wicked things go forth from within and defile the man.
24 And he rose up and went away thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon; and having entered into a house he would not have any one know it, and he could not be hid.
25 But immediately a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell at his feet
26 (and the woman was a Greek, Syrophenician by race), and asked him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said to her, Suffer the children to be first filled; for it is not right to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.
28 But she answered and says to him, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
29 And he said to her, Because of this word, go thy way, the demon is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And having gone away to her house she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.
31 And again having left the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring to him a deaf man who could not speak right, and they beseech him that he might lay his hand on him.
33 And having taken him away from the crowd apart, he put his fingers to his ears; and having spit, he touched his tongue;
34 and looking up to heaven he groaned, and says to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And immediately his ears were opened, and the band of his tongue was loosed and he spoke right.

5 And the Pharisees and scribes asked him: Why do not thy disciples walk according to the tradition of the ancients, but they eat bread with common hands?
6 But he answering, said to them: Well did Isaias prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 And in vain to they worship me, teaching doctrines and precepts of men.
8 For leaving the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, the washing of pots and of cups: and many other things you do like to these.
9 And he said to them: Well do you make void the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said: Honour thy father and thy mother; and He that shall curse father or mother, dying let him die.
11 But you say: If a man shall say to his father or mother, Corban, (which is a gift,) whatsoever is from me, shall profit thee.
12 And further you suffer him not to do any thing for his father or mother,
13 Making void the word of God by your own tradition, which you have given forth. And many other such like things you do.
14 And calling again the multitude unto him, he said to them: Hear ye me all, and understand.
15 There is nothing from without a man that entering into him, can defile him. But the things which come from a man, those are they that defile a man.
16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
17 And when he was come into the house from the multitude, his disciples asked him the parable.
18 And he saith to them: So are you also without knowledge? understand you not that every thing from without, entering into a man cannot defile him:
19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but goeth into the belly, and goeth out into the privy, purging all meats?
20 But he said that the things which come out from a man, they defile a man.
21 For from within out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile a man.
24 And rising from thence he went into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon: and entering into a house, he would that no man should know it, and he could not be hid.
25 For a woman as soon as she heard of him, whose daughter had an unclean spirit, came in and fell down at his feet.
26 For the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophenician born. And she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
27 Who said to her: Suffer first the children to be filled: for it is not good to take the bread of the children, and cast it to the dogs.
28 But she answered and said to him: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat under the table of the crumbs of the children.
29 And he said to her: For this saying go thy way, the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And when she was come into her house, she found the girl lying upon the bed, and that the devil was gone out.
31 And again going out of the coasts of Tyre, he came by Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring to him one deaf and dumb; and they besought him that he would lay his hand upon him.
33 And taking him from the multitude apart, he put his fingers into his ears, and spitting, he touched his tongue:
34 And looking up to heaven, he groaned, and said to him: Ephpheta, which is, Be thou opened.
35 And immediately his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke right.

Mark 7:5-35 in The New Testament with Commentary

5 Then the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?”
6 So in answer He said to them: “Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it stands written: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
8 Because having left the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men—washings of pitchers and cups, and many other similar things that you do.”
9 Indeed He said to them: “You are very good at nullifying the commandment of God, so that you may keep your tradition.
10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.’
11 But you say that if a man should say to father or mother, ‘Whatever profit you might have received from me is Korban’ (that is, a gift to God),
12 you don't even allow him to do anything for his father or his mother any more,
13 making the Word of God of no effect by your tradition that you have handed down. Yes, you do many such things.”
14 Upon summoning the larger crowd He said to them: “Hear me, everyone, and understand:
15 There is nothing outside a man that can defile him by going into him; rather, the things that come out of him, those are the ones that defile him.
16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”
17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples started to question Him about the parable.
18 So He said to them: “Can you really be without understanding? Don't you perceive that nothing that enters a man from outside can defile him,
19 because it doesn't go into his heart, but into his stomach, which then expels the impure aspects of the food?”
20 He went on to say: “That which comes out of a man, that is what defiles him.
21 Because from within, out of men's hearts, the evil designs proceed—adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 thefts, covetings, malignancies; deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, arrogance, foolishness—
23 all these malignant things proceed from within and defile the man.”
24 Then He got ready and went from there into the region of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house and did not want anyone to know it, but He could not escape notice.
25 In fact, as soon as she heard about Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit came and fell at His feet.
26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenecian by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first; it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
28 So she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs.”
29 So He said to her, “Because of this saying you may go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”
30 She went away to her house and found that the demon was gone and the daughter had been placed on the bed.
31 Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, Jesus came to the Sea of Galilee by way of the Decapolis region.
32 Then they brought to Him a deaf man with thick speech and begged Him to place His hand on him.
33 After taking him aside, away from the crowd, He put His fingers in his ears; He also spat and touched his tongue.
34 Then looking up to heaven He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”
35 Immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he began to speak clearly.

Mark 7:5-35 in Free Bible Version

5 So the Pharisees and religious leaders asked Jesus, “Why don't your disciples follow the tradition of our ancestors? They eat food with unclean hands.”
6 Jesus replied, “Isaiah was right about you hypocrites when he said, ‘These people claim they honor me, but in their thinking they are far from me.
7 There's no point in their worship of me, for what they teach as doctrines are merely human rules.’
8 You disregard God's law, and instead you carefully observe human traditions,” he told them.
9 “How cleverly you set aside God's law so you can support your traditions!
10 Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and ‘Whoever curses their father or mother should die.’
11 But you say that if someone tells their father or mother, ‘Anything you might have received from me is now Corban,’ (that means dedicated to God),
12 then you don't permit them to do anything further for their mother or father.
13 By means of this tradition of yours that you pass down, you make God's word null and void. You do many other things like this.”
14 Jesus called the crowd to him again and told them, “Please, everyone listen to me and understand.
15 It's not what's on the outside and goes into you that makes you unclean. It's what comes out that makes you unclean.”
17 Then Jesus went inside to escape the crowd, and his disciples asked him about his illustration.
18 “Don't you understand it either?” he asked them. “Don't you see that what you eat doesn't make you unclean?
19 It doesn't go into your mind, but into your stomach, and then passes out of the body. So all foods are ceremonially ‘clean.’
20 It's what comes out of you that makes you unclean.
21 It's from the inside, from people's minds, that evil thoughts come: sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
22 greed, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, thoughtlessness—
23 all these evils come from inside and defile people.”
24 Then Jesus left and went to the region of Tyre. He didn't want anyone to know he was staying in a house there, but he couldn't keep it a secret.
25 As soon as a woman, whose little daughter had an evil spirit, heard about him she came and fell at his feet.
26 The woman was Greek, born in Syrophoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive out the demon from her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat until they're full,” Jesus replied. “It's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs.”
28 “True, sir,” she said, “but even the dogs under the table eat the scraps the children leave.”
29 Jesus told her, “For such an answer you may go—the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found the child lying on the bed, the demon gone.
31 Leaving the region of Tyre, Jesus passed through Sidon and then on to the Sea of Galilee and the territory of the Ten Cities.
32 There they brought him a deaf man who also could not speak properly. They asked Jesus to touch the man with his hand and heal him.
33 After Jesus took him aside from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers in the deaf man's ears. Then he touched the man's tongue with spit.
34 Jesus looked up to heaven and with a sigh he said, “Ephphatha,” which means, “Open!”
35 The man's ears were opened, his speech impediment was gone, and he began speaking properly.

5 Then asked him the Pharises and Scribes, Why walke not thy disciples according to the tradition of the Elders, but eate meate with vnwashen hands?
6 Then hee answered and sayd vnto them, Surely Esay hath prophecied well of you, hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth mee with lippes, but their heart is farre away from me.
7 But they worship me in vaine, teaching for doctrines the commandements of men.
8 For ye lay the commandement of God apart, and obserue the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and of cups, and many other such like things ye doe.
9 And he sayd vnto them, Well, ye reiect the commandement of God, that ye may obserue your owne tradition.
10 For Moses sayd, Honour thy father and thy mother: and Whosoeuer shall speake euill of father or mother, let him die the death.
11 But yee say, If a man say to father or mother, Corban, that is, By the gift that is offered by mee, thou mayest haue profite, hee shall be free.
12 So ye suffer him no more to doe any thing for his father, or his mother,
13 Making the worde of God of none authoritie, by your tradition which ye haue ordeined: and ye doe many such like things.
14 Then he called the whole multitude vnto him, and sayd vnto them, Hearken you all vnto me, and vnderstand.
15 There is nothing without a man, that can defile him, when it entreth into him: but the things which proceede out of him, are they which defile the man.
16 If any haue eares to heare, let him heare.
17 And when hee came into an house, away from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18 And he sayde vnto them, What? are ye without vnderstanding also? Doe ye not knowe that whatsoeuer thing from without entreth into a man, cannot defile him,
19 Because it entreth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught which is the purging of all meates?
20 Then he sayd, That which commeth out of man, that defileth man.
21 For from within, euen out of the heart of men, proceede euill thoughtes, adulteries, fornications, murthers,
22 Theftes, couetousnes, wickednes, deceite, vncleannes, a wicked eye, backbiting, pride, foolishnesse.
23 All these euill things come from within, and defile a man.
24 And from thence he rose, and went into the borders of Tyrus and Sidon, and entred into an house, and woulde that no man should haue knowen: but he could not be hid.
25 For a certaine woman, whose litle daughter had an vncleane spirit, heard of him, and came, and fell at his feete,

27 But Iesus saide vnto her, Let the children first be fedde: for it is not good to take the childrens bread, and to cast it vnto whelpes.
28 Then shee answered, and saide vnto him, Trueth, Lord: yet in deede the whelpes eate vnder the table of the childrens crommes.
29 Then he said vnto her, For this saying goe thy way: the deuil is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And when shee was come home to her house, shee founde the deuill departed, and her daughter lying on the bed.
31 And hee departed againe from the coastes of Tyrus and Sidon, and came vnto the sea of Galile, through the middes of the coastes of Decapolis.
32 And they brought vnto him one that was deafe and stambered in his speache, and prayed him to put his hand vpon him.
33 Then hee tooke him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers in his eares, and did spit, and touched his tongue.
34 And looking vp to heauen, hee sighed, and said vnto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And straightway his eares were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and hee spake plaine.

24 After that Jesus left his country. He went northwards, he went to another country belonging to foreigners, to the country named Syro-Phoenicia. He was staying close to a town, its name was Tyre. He entered a house to be alone. He said to himself, “The local people don't know me. They will not recognise me.” No. In vain he tried to avoid them.
25 Soon a woman of the area heard about Jesus. She was a different woman, not a Jew, from the country of Syro-Phoenicia. That woman had a daughter. An evil spirit was controlling her child. That woman left her child in the camp, she came to Jesus, she knelt in front of him, she begged him, “Send away an evil spirit from my little child.”
27 Jesus replied kindly to her, “Children should eat food, then you will give food to the little dogs. Don't take the children's food to throw to the little dogs.” With that word Jesus told the woman, “I will do good for the Jewish people, not now will I do good for people from other countries. That is for later.”
28 The woman replied, “Yes, boss! That word is a true. The children should eat the food. After that the little dogs will eat. Truly the child eat food, The little dogs eat the left-overs that have fallen from the hands of the children.”
29 Jesus said to her, “You spoke well. For that word I will make your child well. You can go. Already the spirit has left your child.”
30 At his word the woman went, she went to her camp, she saw her child. She was sleeping on her blanket well. The spirit had already gone from her.
31 After that Jesus again went northwards to Sidon. He went eastwwards, southwards to the 10 Towns, after that he return to the waterhole Galilee.
32 They brought to him a deaf man, his tongue was weak, he had difficulty talking. They said to Jesus, “Touch this man with your hand, make him well.”
33 Jesus took the man away so they wouldn't be seen. He put his two hands on the man's ears. After that he spat on his own hand, he put it on the tongue of the man.
34 Then Jesus looked up, he took a very big breath. Then he said to the man, “Ears open!”
35 At his word right then the man's two ears opened, his tongue became good. Then that spoke well.

Mark 7:5-35 in George Noyes Bible

5 then the Pharisees and scribes ask him, Why do not thy disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with defiled hands?
6 And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
8 Laying aside, the commandment of God, ye hold fast the tradition of men.
9 And he said to them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition!
10 For Moses said, “Honor thy father and thy mother;” and, “He that curseth father or mother, let him surely die.”
11 But ye say, If a man say to his father or mother, Whatever thou mightst receive in aid from me is Corban, that is, a gift to God, he is not bound by the command. Thus
12 ye suffer him no longer to do anything for his father or his mother;
13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have handed down; and many such things ye do.
14 And again calling the multitude to him, he said to them, Hearken to me all of you, and understand.
15 Nothing that entereth into a man from without can defile him; but the things that come out of him are what defile a man.
17 And when he had gone into the house from the crowd, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18 And he saith to them, Are ye too so without discernment? Do ye not understand that whatever thing from without entereth into a man, cannot defile him?
19 because it entereth not into his heart, but into the stomach; and goeth out into the drain, which cleanseth all kinds of food.
20 And he said, That which cometh out of a man, that defileth a man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth evil thoughts, fornications,
22 thefts, murders, adulteries, covetousness, iniquities, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile a man.
24 And rising up, he departed thence into the borders of Tyre; and entering into a house, he desired that no one should know it; but he could not escape notice.
25 But a woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, immediately hearing of him, came in, and fell at his feet.
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast out the demon from her daughter.
27 And he said to her, Let the children be filled first; for it is not well to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.
28 But she answered, and saith to him, Yea, Lord; even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
29 And he said to her, For this saying go thy way; the demon hath gone out of thy daughter.
30 And going away to her house, she found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.
31 And again leaving the borders of Tyre, he came through Sidon to the lake of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.
32 And they bring to him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech, and beseech him to lay his hand upon him.
33 And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into his ears, and having spit, touched his tongue;
34 and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And his ears were opened; and the string of his tongue was immediately loosed, and he spoke plain.

5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law asked Jesus this question — “How is it that your disciples do not follow the traditions of our ancestors, but eat their food with defiled hands?”
6 His answer was, “It was well said by Isaiah when he prophesied about you hypocrites in the words — ‘This is a people who honour me with their lips, while their hearts are far removed from me;
7 but vainly do they worship me, For they teach but human precepts.’
8 You neglect God's commandments and hold to human traditions.
9 Wisely do you set aside God's commandments,” he exclaimed, “to keep your own traditions!
10 For while Moses said ‘Honour your father and your mother,’ and ‘Let anyone who abuses their father or mother suffer death,’
11 you say ‘If a person says to their father or mother “Whatever of mine might have been of service to you is Corban”’ (which means ‘Set apart for God’) —
12 why, then you do not allow them to do anything further for their father or mother!
13 In this way you nullify the words of God by your traditions, which you hand down; and you do many similar things.”
14 Then Jesus called the people to him again, and said, “Listen to me, all of you, and mark my words.
15 There is nothing external to a person, which by going into them can defile them; but the things that come out of a person are the things that defile them.”
17 When Jesus went indoors, away from the crowd, his disciples began questioning him about this saying.
18 “What, do even you understand so little?” exclaimed Jesus. “Don't you see that there is nothing external to a person, which by going into a person, can defile them,
19 because it does not pass into his heart, but into his stomach, and is afterward got rid of?” — in saying this Jesus pronounced all food clean.
20 “It is what comes out from a person,” he added, “that defiles them,
21 for it is from within, out of the hearts of people, that there come evil thoughts — sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
22 greed, wickedness, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;
23 all these wicked things come from within, and do defile a person.”
24 On leaving that place, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house, and did not wish anyone to know it, but could not escape notice.
25 For a woman, whose little daughter had a foul spirit in her, heard of him immediately, and came and threw herself at his feet —
26 the woman was a foreigner, from Syrian Phoenicia — and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “Let the children be satisfied first,” answered Jesus. “For it is not fair to take the children's food, and throw it to dogs.”
28 “Yes, Master,” she replied; “even the dogs under the table do feed on the children's crumbs.”
29 “For saying that,” he answered, “you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”
30 The woman went home, and found the child lying on her bed, and the demon gone.
31 On returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went, by way of Sidon, to the Sea of Galilee, across the district of the Ten Towns.
32 Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and almost dumb, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him.
33 Jesus took him aside from the crowd quietly, put his fingers into the man's ears, and touched his tongue with saliva.
34 Then, looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to the man, “Ephphatha!” which means ‘Be opened.’
35 The man's ears were opened, the string of his tongue was freed, and he began to talk plainly.

Mark 7:5-35 in Plain English Version

5 and those law men growled at Jesus and said, “How come your followers don’t follow the rules that our old leaders gave us long ago? Your followers are eating but they didn’t wash their hands the right way. Why don’t they do that hand wash ceremony before they eat?”
6 Jesus said back to them, “You mob tell everyone you are good, but really, you are not good. You know that man called Isaiah that lived a long time ago and wrote down God’s words, he wrote a true story about you. He wrote, ‘Those people will show respect to me with their mouth but really, they think another way.
7 They have ceremonies for me but, really, they rubbish me. They teach rules that men made up themselves and they tell everybody that these are God’s laws.’
8 You mob are just like that. You turn your back on God’s law but you are strong on the rules that men made up.”
9 And Jesus kept talking to them, he said, “You mob are tricky in the way you turn your back on God’s law and follow your own rules.
10 You see, God told Moses to tell people to look after their old people. Moses wrote this law, ‘You have to respect your father and mother.’ And it says, ‘If anyone rubbishes their father or mother, you have to kill that person.’
11 But you mob reckon that a man can tell his father or mother, ‘I want to help you old people, but sorry, I promised to give that thing to God, so I can’t give you that thing that you need.’
12 You mob reckon that if he says that to his father and mother, he doesn’t have to help them and he can keep that thing for himself.
13 In that way you take God’s word away from people so that they will just follow the rules that you made up. You do all sorts of things like that all the time.”
14 Then Jesus called out to all the people to come and listen to him. He said, “Listen to me, everyone, and try to understand what I’m saying.
15 Don’t worry about what goes into your mouth but worry about what comes out of it. If God hears bad things come out of your mouth he will say that you are no good inside.”
17 After that Jesus stopped talking to all the people and went into his house to take a break. His followers went in with him, and they asked him what he meant by the words he just told the people.
18 Jesus said, “What is wrong with you? Don’t you understand me? Listen. If you eat something, it goes into your stomach and some time later it goes out of your body into the toilet. It doesn’t go into your brains. So God will not say, ‘You ate the wrong food and made yourself no good.’ No, he will not say that.” (Jesus said this about food and made it clear for us that all kinds of food are all right.)
20 Jesus kept on teaching his followers, he said, “People think inside their heads about bad things, and they go wrong. They get up and do these bad things, and that makes them no good. These are the things they might do, – They might think about all sorts of bad things. – They might play around with anybody, and do what married people do together. – They might be greedy, wanting lots of money and things. – They might want to get something that other people have. – They might steal things. – They might murder somebody. – They might sleep with somebody else’s husband or wife, like they are married to them. – They might trick people. – They might rubbish other people. – They might think that they themselves are great. – They might only think about whatever they want for themselves. – They might do the first bad thing that comes into their mind. – They might do really stupid things. All these bad things come from people thinking the wrong way inside their heads, and these things make people no good.”
24 After that Jesus got up and left Galilee country and went north to a town called Tyre. This town was near the salt water sea. The people that lived in Tyre were not Jewish people. Jesus went into a house, so he could sit down by himself for a while, but his plan didn’t work. People heard that he was in that house and they came to visit him.
25 There was a Greek woman there. She came from a place called Phoenicia in Syria. Her daughter had a bad spirit inside her. So that woman went to Jesus to get help. She got down on her knees in front of Jesus, to show him respect, and she asked him to force the bad spirit out of her daughter.
27 Jesus said to her, “I belong to the Jewish tribe. I have to look after my own people first, not you people that are not Jewish. A man feeds his own kids first. He will not take their food and throw it to the dogs.”
28 The woman said, “Yes teacher, you are right about that, but while those kids are eating they drop a few little bits of food, and the dogs under the table can eat those little bits of food. I’m not Jewish but you can still do a little bit for me.”
29 Jesus said, “That is a good answer. It shows me that you trust me. You can go home now. I made that bad spirit go out from your daughter just now.”
30 Then the woman went home and found her daughter lying down quietly on a bed. The bad spirit was gone.
31 Then Jesus left Tyre and walked back through another town called Sidon, and then he went around the north of Lake Galilee to the country everyone called Ten Towns.
32 Some people brought a man to Jesus. This man was deaf and he couldn’t talk properly. The man’s friends asked Jesus strongly to put his hand on their friend and make him better.
33 Jesus took the man away from the other people and put his fingers in the man’s ears. He spat and touched the man’s tongue.
34 Then Jesus looked up into the sky and prayed for the man. He talked in their language, he said, “Ephpatha,” which means Open up.
35 And straight away that man could hear properly, and his tongue was better so he could talk properly.

28 She answered and sayde vnto him: even soo master neverthelesse the whelppes also eate vnder the table of the chyldrens cromes.
29 And he sayde vnto her: for this sayinge goo thy waye the devyll is gone out of thy doughter.
30 And when she was come home to her housse she founde the devyll departed and her doughter lyinge on the beed.
31 And he departed agayne from the coostes of Tyre and Sidon and came vnto the see of Galile thorowe the middes of the coostos of the .x. cities.

10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother;’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’
11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban,”’” that is to say, given to God,
12 “then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,
13 making void the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down. You do many things like this.”
14 He called all the multitude to himself and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand.
15 There is nothing from outside of the man that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.
16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”
17 When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his disciples asked him about the parable.
18 He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Don’t you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can’t defile him,
19 because it doesn’t go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, making all foods clean?”
20 He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.
21 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,
22 covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.
23 All these evil things come from within and defile the man.”
24 From there he arose and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house and didn’t want anyone to know it, but he couldn’t escape notice.
25 For a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.
26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 He said to her, “For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

Mark 7:5-35 in Noah Webster Bible

5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?
6 He answered and said to them, Well hath Isaiah prophesied concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 But, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said to them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition,
10 For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Whoever curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free .
12 And ye suffer him no more to do aught for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of no effect through your traditions, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.
14 And when he had called all the people to him , he said to them, Hearken to me every one of you , and understand.
15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him, can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
16 If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.
17 And when he had entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
18 And he saith to them, Are ye so void of understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him.
19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all kinds of food.
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness;
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into a house, and would have no man know it : but he could not be hid.
25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
26 (The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation,) and she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be satisfied: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs.
28 And she answered and said to him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crums.
29 And he said to her, For this saying, depart; the demon is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon had gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
31 And again, departing from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.
32 And they bring to him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue.
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, Effatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And immediately his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plain.

6 And he answered, and said to them, Isaiah prophesied well of you, hypocrites, as it is written, This people worshippeth or honoureth me with lips, but their heart is far from me;
7 and in vain they worship me, teaching the doctrines and the behests or the commandments of men.
8 For ye leave the commandment of God, and hold the traditions of men, as the washing of water vessels or cruets, and of cups; and many other things like these ye do.

13 and ye break the word of God by your tradition, that ye have given; and ye do many other such things.
14 And he again called the people, and said to them, Ye all hear me, and understand.
15 Nothing that is without a man, that entereth into him, may defoul him; but those things that come forth of a man, those it be that defoul a man.
16 If any man have ears of hearing or ears to hear, hear he.
17 And when he was entered into an house, from the people, his disciples asked him the parable.
18 And he said to them, Ye be unwise also. Understand ye not, that all thing withoutforth that entereth into a man, may not defoul him?
19 for it hath not entered into his heart, but into the womb, and beneath it goeth out, purging all meats.
20 But he said, The things that go out of a man, those defoul a man.

Mark 7 in Wycliffe Bible

Mark 7:5-35 in Young's Literal Translation

5 Then question him do the Pharisees and the scribes, 'Wherefore do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but with unwashed hands do eat the bread?'
6 and he answering said to them — 'Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, hypocrites, as it hath been written, This people with the lips doth honour Me, and their heart is far from Me;
7 and in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings, commands of men;
8 for, having put away the command of God, ye hold the tradition of men, baptisms of pots and cups; and many other such like things ye do.'
9 And he said to them, 'Well do ye put away the command of God that your tradition ye may keep;
10 for Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother — let him die the death;
11 and ye say, If a man may say to father or to mother, Korban (that is, a gift), is whatever thou mayest be profited out of mine,
12 and no more do ye suffer him to do anything for his father or for his mother,
13 setting aside the word of God for your tradition that ye delivered; and many such like things ye do.'
14 And having called near all the multitude, he said to them, 'Hearken to me, ye all, and understand;
15 there is nothing from without the man entering into him that is able to defile him, but the things coming out from him, those are the things defiling the man.
16 If any hath ears to hear — let him hear.'
17 And when he entered into a house from the multitude, his disciples were questioning him about the simile,
18 and he saith to them, 'So also ye are without understanding! Do ye not perceive that nothing from without entering into the man is able to defile him?
19 because it doth not enter into his heart, but into the belly, and into the drain it doth go out, purifying all the meats.'
20 And he said — 'That which is coming out from the man, that doth defile the man;
21 for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders,
22 thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;
23 all these evils do come forth from within, and they defile the man.'
24 And from thence having risen, he went away to the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and having entered into the house, he wished none to know, and he was not able to be hid,
25 for a woman having heard about him, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having come, fell at his feet, —
26 and the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phenician by nation — and was asking him, that the demon he may cast forth out of her daughter.
27 And Jesus said to her, 'Suffer first the children to be filled, for it is not good to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the little dogs.'
28 And she answered and saith to him, 'Yes, sir; for the little dogs also under the table do eat of the children's crumbs.'
29 And he said to her, 'Because of this word go; the demon hath gone forth out of thy daughter;'
30 and having come away to her house, she found the demon gone forth, and the daughter laid upon the couch.
31 And again, having gone forth from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis,
32 and they bring to him a deaf, stuttering man, and they call on him that he may put the hand on him.
33 And having taken him away from the multitude by himself, he put his fingers to his ears, and having spit, he touched his tongue,
34 and having looked to the heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, 'Ephphatha,' that is, 'Be thou opened;'
35 and immediately were his ears opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he was speaking plain.
