¹⁸ And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, it cannot defile him;

¹⁹ because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean.

²⁰ And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

²² covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

²³ all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.

²⁴ And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hid.

²⁵ But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷ And he said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.

²⁸ But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.

²⁹ And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter.

³⁰ And she went away unto her house, and found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.

³¹ And again he went out from the borders of Tyre, and came through Sidon unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.

³² And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to lay his hand upon him.

³³ And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue;

³⁴ and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

¹⁸ He replied, “◄ I am disappointed that you also do not understand what it means!/Why can you not understand what it means?► RHQ ◄You ought to understand that nothing that enters us from outside can cause God to consider us unacceptable to him./Can you not understand that nothing that enters us from outside of us can cause God to consider us unacceptable to him?► RHQ

¹⁹ Instead of entering and ruining our minds/souls, it goes into our stomachs, and afterwards the refuse passes out of our bodies.” By saying this, Jesus was declaring that people can eat any food without causing God to reject them.

²⁰ He also said, “It is the thoughts and actions that come from within people that cause God to consider them unacceptable to him.

²¹ Specifically, it is people's innermost being that causes them to think things that are evil; they act immorally, they steal things, they commit murder.

²² They commit adultery, they are greedy, they act maliciously, they deceive people. They act indecently, they envy people, they speak evil about others, they are proud, and they act foolishly.

²³ People think these thoughts and then they do these evil actions, and that is what causes God to consider them unacceptable to him.”

²⁴ After Jesus and his disciples left Galilee district, they went to the region around Tyre. While he stayed at a certain house, he desired that no one know it, but people soon found out that he was there.

²⁵ A certain woman, whose daughter had an evil spirit within her, heard about Jesus. At once she came to him and prostrated herself at his feet.

²⁶ This woman was not a Jew. Her ancestors came from Greece country, but she was born in the region around Phoenicia town in Syria district. She pleaded with Jesus that he expel the evil spirit from her daughter.

²⁷ But he wanted to see how strongly she believed in him. So, suggesting that he should help the Jews first and not the non-Jews whom some Jews called dogs MET, he spoke to her saying, “First let the children eat all they want, because it is not good for someone to take the food the mother has prepared for the children and then throw it to the little dogs.”

²⁸ But to show that she believed that non-Jews could also receive help from God MET, she replied to him, “Sir, what you say is correct, but even the little dogs, which lie under the table, eat the crumbs that the children drop.”

²⁹ Jesus said to her, “Because of what you have said, you have shown me that you believe in what I can do for you. So I will help you. Now you may go home, because I have caused the evil spirit to leave your daughter.”

³⁰ The woman returned to her house and saw that her child was lying quietly on the bed and that the evil spirit had left.

³¹ Jesus and his disciples left the region around Tyre city and went north through Sidon city, then toward the east through the district of the Ten Towns, and then south to the towns near Lake Galilee.

³² There, people brought to him a man who was deaf and who could hardly talk. They begged Jesus to lay his hands on him in order to heal him.

³³ So Jesus took him away from the crowd in order that the two of them could be alone. Then he put one of his fingers into each of the man's ears. After he spat on his fingers, he touched the man's tongue with his fingers.

³⁴ Then he looked up toward heaven, he sighed because he was concerned for the man, and then in his own language he said to the man's ears, “Ephphatha”, which means, “Be opened {Open up}!”.

¹⁸ He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Don’t you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can’t defile him,

¹⁹ because it doesn’t go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, making all foods clean?”

²⁰ He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,

²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

²³ All these evil things come from within and defile the man.”

²⁴ From there he arose and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house and didn’t want anyone to know it, but he couldn’t escape notice.

¹⁹ Because it goes not into the heart but into the stomach, and goes out with the waste? He said this, making all food clean.

²⁰ And he said, That which comes out of the man, that makes the man unclean.

²¹ Because from inside, from the heart of men, come evil thoughts and unclean pleasures,

²² The taking of goods and of life, broken faith between husband and wife, the desire of wealth, wrongdoing, deceit, sins of the flesh, an evil eye, angry words, pride, foolish acts:

²³ All these evil things come from inside, and make the man unclean.

²⁴ And he went away from there to the country of Tyre and Sidon. And he went into a house, desiring that no man might have knowledge of it: and he was not able to keep it secret.

²⁵ But a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having had news of him, came straight away and went down at his feet.

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-phoenician by birth: and she made a request to him that he would send the evil spirit out of her daughter.

²⁷ And he said to her, Let the children first have their food: for it is not right to take the children's bread and give it to the dogs.

²⁸ But she said to him in answer, Yes, Lord: even the dogs under the table take the bits dropped by the children.

²⁹ And he said to her, For this saying go your way; the evil spirit has gone out of your daughter.

³⁰ And she went away to her house, and saw the child on the bed, and the evil spirit gone out.

³¹ And again he went out from Tyre, and came through Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the country of Decapolis.

³² And they came to him with one who had no power of hearing and had trouble in talking; and they made a request to him to put his hands on him.

³³ And he took him on one side from the people privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he put water from his mouth on the man's tongue with his finger;

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he took a deep breath, and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be open.

¹⁸ And he says to them, Are ye also thus unintelligent? Do ye not perceive that all that is outside entering into the man cannot defile him,

¹⁹ because it does not enter into his heart but into his belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats?

²⁰ And he said, That which goes forth out of the man, that defiles the man.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, go forth evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²² thefts, covetousness, wickednesses, deceit, licentiousness, a wicked eye, injurious language, haughtiness, folly;

²³ all these wicked things go forth from within and defile the man.

²⁴ And he rose up and went away thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon; and having entered into a house he would not have any one know it, and he could not be hid.

²⁵ But immediately a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell at his feet

²⁶ (and the woman was a Greek, Syrophenician by race), and asked him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷ But Jesus said to her, Suffer the children to be first filled; for it is not right to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.

²⁸ But she answered and says to him, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²⁹ And he said to her, Because of this word, go thy way, the demon is gone out of thy daughter.

³⁰ And having gone away to her house she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

³¹ And again having left the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

³² And they bring to him a deaf man who could not speak right, and they beseech him that he might lay his hand on him.

³³ And having taken him away from the crowd apart, he put his fingers to his ears; and having spit, he touched his tongue;

³⁴ and looking up to heaven he groaned, and says to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

¹⁸ And he saith to them: So are you also without knowledge? understand you not that every thing from without, entering into a man cannot defile him:

¹⁹ Because it entereth not into his heart, but goeth into the belly, and goeth out into the privy, purging all meats?

²⁶ For the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophenician born. And she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

²⁷ Who said to her: Suffer first the children to be filled: for it is not good to take the bread of the children, and cast it to the dogs.

²⁸ But she answered and said to him: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat under the table of the crumbs of the children.

²⁹ And he said to her: For this saying go thy way, the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

³⁰ And when she was come into her house, she found the girl lying upon the bed, and that the devil was gone out.

³¹ And again going out of the coasts of Tyre, he came by Sidon to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

³² And they bring to him one deaf and dumb; and they besought him that he would lay his hand upon him.

³³ And taking him from the multitude apart, he put his fingers into his ears, and spitting, he touched his tongue:

³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he groaned, and said to him: Ephpheta, which is, Be thou opened.

¹⁸ So He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Do you not understand that everything entering a man from outside cannot defile him,

¹⁹ because it does not enter into his heart but into his stomach, and passes into the latrine, thus purifying all foods?”

²⁰ And He said, “That which comes out of a man, that defiles a man.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²² thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, arrogance, foolishness.

²³ All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

²⁴ From there He arose and He went away into the region of Tyre and Sidon. And having entered into a house, He wanted no one to know it, but He was not able to escape notice.

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by race, and she was asking Him to cast the demon out from her daughter.

³⁰ And going away to her house, she found the demon having gone out, and her daughter having been placed on the bed.

³¹ Again, coming out from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He went to the Sea of Galilee, in the midst of the region of Decapolis.

³² Then they brought to Him a deaf man impeded in speech, and they begged Him that He would lay His hand upon him.

³³ And when he had taken him aside from the crowd privately, He put His fingers in his ears, and having spit, He touched his tongue.

³⁴ Then looking up into heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

¹⁸ So He said to them: “Can you really be without understanding? Don't you perceive that nothing that enters a man from outside can defile him,

¹⁹ because it doesn't go into his heart, but into his stomach, which then expels the impure aspects of the food?”

²⁰ He went on to say: “That which comes out of a man, that is what defiles him.

²¹ Because from within, out of men's hearts, the evil designs proceed—adulteries, fornications, murders,

²² thefts, covetings, malignancies; deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, arrogance, foolishness—

²³ all these malignant things proceed from within and defile the man.”

²⁴ Then He got ready and went from there into the region of Tyre and Sidon. He went into a house and did not want anyone to know it, but He could not escape notice.

²⁵ In fact, as soon as she heard about Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit came and fell at His feet.

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenecian by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷ But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first; it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

²⁸ So she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs.”

²⁹ So He said to her, “Because of this saying you may go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

³⁰ She went away to her house and found that the demon was gone and the daughter had been placed on the bed.

³¹ Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, Jesus came to the Sea of Galilee by way of the Decapolis region.

³² Then they brought to Him a deaf man with thick speech and begged Him to place His hand on him.

³³ After taking him aside, away from the crowd, He put His fingers in his ears; He also spat and touched his tongue.

³⁴ Then looking up to heaven He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”

¹⁸ “Don't you understand it either?” he asked them. “Don't you see that what you eat doesn't make you unclean?

¹⁹ It doesn't go into your mind, but into your stomach, and then passes out of the body. So all foods are ceremonially ‘clean.’

²⁰ It's what comes out of you that makes you unclean.

²¹ It's from the inside, from people's minds, that evil thoughts come: sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,

²² greed, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, thoughtlessness—

²³ all these evils come from inside and defile people.”

²⁴ Then Jesus left and went to the region of Tyre. He didn't want anyone to know he was staying in a house there, but he couldn't keep it a secret.

²⁵ As soon as a woman, whose little daughter had an evil spirit, heard about him she came and fell at his feet.

²⁶ The woman was Greek, born in Syrophoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive out the demon from her daughter.

²⁷ “First let the children eat until they're full,” Jesus replied. “It's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁸ “True, sir,” she said, “but even the dogs under the table eat the scraps the children leave.”

²⁹ Jesus told her, “For such an answer you may go—the demon has left your daughter.”

³⁰ She went home and found the child lying on the bed, the demon gone.

³¹ Leaving the region of Tyre, Jesus passed through Sidon and then on to the Sea of Galilee and the territory of the Ten Cities.

³² There they brought him a deaf man who also could not speak properly. They asked Jesus to touch the man with his hand and heal him.

³³ After Jesus took him aside from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers in the deaf man's ears. Then he touched the man's tongue with spit.

³⁴ Jesus looked up to heaven and with a sigh he said, “Ephphatha,” which means, “Open!”

¹⁸ And he sayde vnto them, What? are ye without vnderstanding also? Doe ye not knowe that whatsoeuer thing from without entreth into a man, cannot defile him,

¹⁹ Because it entreth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught which is the purging of all meates?

²⁰ Then he sayd, That which commeth out of man, that defileth man.

²¹ For from within, euen out of the heart of men, proceede euill thoughtes, adulteries, fornications, murthers,

²² Theftes, couetousnes, wickednes, deceite, vncleannes, a wicked eye, backbiting, pride, foolishnesse.

²³ All these euill things come from within, and defile a man.

²⁴ And from thence he rose, and went into the borders of Tyrus and Sidon, and entred into an house, and woulde that no man should haue knowen: but he could not be hid.

²⁵ For a certaine woman, whose litle daughter had an vncleane spirit, heard of him, and came, and fell at his feete,

²⁶ (And the woman was a Greeke, a Syrophenissian by nation) and she besought him that he would cast out the deuill out of her daughter.

²⁷ But Iesus saide vnto her, Let the children first be fedde: for it is not good to take the childrens bread, and to cast it vnto whelpes.

²⁴ After that Jesus left his country. He went northwards, he went to another country belonging to foreigners, to the country named Syro-Phoenicia. He was staying close to a town, its name was Tyre. He entered a house to be alone. He said to himself, “The local people don't know me. They will not recognise me.” No. In vain he tried to avoid them.

²⁵ Soon a woman of the area heard about Jesus. She was a different woman, not a Jew, from the country of Syro-Phoenicia. That woman had a daughter. An evil spirit was controlling her child. That woman left her child in the camp, she came to Jesus, she knelt in front of him, she begged him, “Send away an evil spirit from my little child.”

²⁷ Jesus replied kindly to her, “Children should eat food, then you will give food to the little dogs. Don't take the children's food to throw to the little dogs.” With that word Jesus told the woman, “I will do good for the Jewish people, not now will I do good for people from other countries. That is for later.”

²⁸ The woman replied, “Yes, boss! That word is a true. The children should eat the food. After that the little dogs will eat. Truly the child eat food, The little dogs eat the left-overs that have fallen from the hands of the children.”

²⁹ Jesus said to her, “You spoke well. For that word I will make your child well. You can go. Already the spirit has left your child.”

³⁰ At his word the woman went, she went to her camp, she saw her child. She was sleeping on her blanket well. The spirit had already gone from her.

³¹ After that Jesus again went northwards to Sidon. He went eastwwards, southwards to the 10 Towns, after that he return to the waterhole Galilee.

³² They brought to him a deaf man, his tongue was weak, he had difficulty talking. They said to Jesus, “Touch this man with your hand, make him well.”

³³ Jesus took the man away so they wouldn't be seen. He put his two hands on the man's ears. After that he spat on his own hand, he put it on the tongue of the man.

³⁴ Then Jesus looked up, he took a very big breath. Then he said to the man, “Ears open!”

¹⁸ And he saith to them, Are ye too so without discernment? Do ye not understand that whatever thing from without entereth into a man, cannot defile him?

¹⁹ because it entereth not into his heart, but into the stomach; and goeth out into the drain, which cleanseth all kinds of food.

²⁰ And he said, That which cometh out of a man, that defileth a man.

²² thefts, murders, adulteries, covetousness, iniquities, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile a man.

²⁴ And rising up, he departed thence into the borders of Tyre; and entering into a house, he desired that no one should know it; but he could not escape notice.

²⁵ But a woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, immediately hearing of him, came in, and fell at his feet.

²⁶ The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast out the demon from her daughter.

²⁷ And he said to her, Let the children be filled first; for it is not well to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.

²⁸ But she answered, and saith to him, Yea, Lord; even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²⁹ “For saying that,” he answered, “you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

²⁸ But she answered him, “Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

²⁹ He said to her, “For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

³⁰ She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.

³¹ Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee District, Circuit, through the middle of the region of Decapolis.

³⁴ Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “ Hippatach! ·Be opened·!”

¹⁸ Jesus said, “What is wrong with you? Don’t you understand me? Listen. If you eat something, it goes into your stomach and some time later it goes out of your body into the toilet. It doesn’t go into your brains. So God will not say, ‘You ate the wrong food and made yourself no good.’ No, he will not say that.” (Jesus said this about food and made it clear for us that all kinds of food are all right.)

²⁰ Jesus kept on teaching his followers, he said, “People think inside their heads about bad things, and they go wrong. They get up and do these bad things, and that makes them no good. These are the things they might do, – They might think about all sorts of bad things. – They might play around with anybody, and do what married people do together. – They might be greedy, wanting lots of money and things. – They might want to get something that other people have. – They might steal things. – They might murder somebody. – They might sleep with somebody else’s husband or wife, like they are married to them. – They might trick people. – They might rubbish other people. – They might think that they themselves are great. – They might only think about whatever they want for themselves. – They might do the first bad thing that comes into their mind. – They might do really stupid things. All these bad things come from people thinking the wrong way inside their heads, and these things make people no good.”

²⁴ After that Jesus got up and left Galilee country and went north to a town called Tyre. This town was near the salt water sea. The people that lived in Tyre were not Jewish people. Jesus went into a house, so he could sit down by himself for a while, but his plan didn’t work. People heard that he was in that house and they came to visit him.

²⁵ There was a Greek woman there. She came from a place called Phoenicia in Syria. Her daughter had a bad spirit inside her. So that woman went to Jesus to get help. She got down on her knees in front of Jesus, to show him respect, and she asked him to force the bad spirit out of her daughter.

²⁷ Jesus said to her, “I belong to the Jewish tribe. I have to look after my own people first, not you people that are not Jewish. A man feeds his own kids first. He will not take their food and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁸ The woman said, “Yes teacher, you are right about that, but while those kids are eating they drop a few little bits of food, and the dogs under the table can eat those little bits of food. I’m not Jewish but you can still do a little bit for me.”

²⁹ Jesus said, “That is a good answer. It shows me that you trust me. You can go home now. I made that bad spirit go out from your daughter just now.”

³⁰ Then the woman went home and found her daughter lying down quietly on a bed. The bad spirit was gone.

³¹ Then Jesus left Tyre and walked back through another town called Sidon, and then he went around the north of Lake Galilee to the country everyone called Ten Towns.

³² Some people brought a man to Jesus. This man was deaf and he couldn’t talk properly. The man’s friends asked Jesus strongly to put his hand on their friend and make him better.

³³ Jesus took the man away from the other people and put his fingers in the man’s ears. He spat and touched the man’s tongue.

³⁴ Then Jesus looked up into the sky and prayed for the man. He talked in their language, he said, “Ephpatha,” which means Open up.

²³ all these evyll thinges come from with in and defile a man.

²⁴ And from thence he rose and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon and entred into an housse and wolde that no man should have knowen: But he coulde not be hyd.

²⁶ The woman was a Greke oute of Syrophenicia and she besought him that he wolde caste out the devyll oute of her doughter.

²⁷ And Iesus sayde vnto her: let the chyldren fyrst be feed. For it is not mete to take the chyldres breed and to caste it vnto whelppes.

²⁸ She answered and sayde vnto him: even soo master neverthelesse the whelppes also eate vnder the table of the chyldrens cromes.

²⁹ And he sayde vnto her: for this sayinge goo thy waye the devyll is gone out of thy doughter.

³⁰ And when she was come home to her housse she founde the devyll departed and her doughter lyinge on the beed.

³¹ And he departed agayne from the coostes of Tyre and Sidon and came vnto the see of Galile thorowe the middes of the coostos of the .x. cities.

³³ And he toke him asyde from the people and put his fyngers in his eares and dyd spyt and touched his tounge

³⁴ and loked vp to heven and sygthed and sayde vnto him: ephatha that is to saye be openned.

²⁹ He said to her, “Because you have said this, you are free to go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

³⁰ She went back to her house and found the child lying on the bed, and the demon was gone.

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,

²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

²³ All these evil things come from within and defile the man.”

²⁴ From there he arose and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house and didn’t want anyone to know it, but he couldn’t escape notice.

²⁵ For a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.

²⁶ Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷ But Yeshua said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁸ But she answered him, “Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

²⁹ He said to her, “For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

³⁰ She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.

³¹ Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee through the middle of the region of Decapolis.

³² They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him.

³³ He took him aside from the multitude privately and put his fingers into his ears; and he spat and touched his tongue.

³⁴ Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”

²⁷ And he said to her, Suffer thou (or Allow) that the children be fulfilled first or Suffer thou that the sons be filled first; for it is not good to take the bread of children, and give it to hounds.

²⁸ And she answered, and said to him, Yes, Lord; for little whelps eat under the board of the crumbs of (the) children. (And she answered him, Yes, Lord; but even little pups can eat the crumbs of the children under the table.)

²⁹ And Jesus said to her, Go thou, for this word the fiend (or the demon) went out of thy daughter.

³⁰ And when she was gone into her house home or And when she had gone home/And when she had gone into her house, she found the damsel lying on the bed, and the devil gone out from her. (And when she went home, she found the young girl lying on the bed, and the demon had gone out of her.)

²³ Alle these yuels comen forth fro with ynne, and defoulen a man.

²⁴ And Jhesus roos vp fro thennus, and wente in to the coostis of Tyre and of Sidon. And he yede in to an hous, and wolde that no man wiste; and he myyte not be hid.

²⁵ For a womman, anoon as sche herd of hym, whos douytir hadde an vnclene spirit, entride, and fel doun at hise feet.

²⁶ And the womman was hethen, of the generacioun of Sirofenyce. And sche preiede hym, that he wolde caste out a deuel fro hir douyter.

²⁷ And he seide to hir, Suffre thou, that the children be fulfillid first; for it is not good to take the breed of children, and yyue to houndis.

²⁸ And sche answeride, and seide to him, Yis, Lord; for litil whelpis eten vndur the bord, of the crummes of children.

²⁹ And Jhesus seide to hir, Go thou, for this word the feend wente out of thi douytir.

³⁰ And whanne sche was gon in to hir hous home, sche foonde the damysel ligynge on the bed, and the deuel gon out fro hir.

³¹ And eftsoones Jhesus yede out fro the coostis of Tire, and cam thorou Sidon to the see of Galilee, bitwixe the myddil of the coostis of Decapoleos.

³² And thei bryngen to hym a man deef and doumbe, and preieden hym to leye his hoond on hym.

³³ And he took hym asidis fro the puple, and puttide hise fyngris in to hise eris; and he spetide, and touchide his tonge.

³⁴ And he bihelde in to heuene, and sorewide with ynne, and seide, Effeta, that is, Be thou openyd.

²⁴ And from thence having risen, he went away to the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and having entered into the house, he wished none to know, and he was not able to be hid,

²⁵ for a woman having heard about him, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having come, fell at his feet, —

²⁶ and the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phenician by nation — and was asking him, that the demon he may cast forth out of her daughter.

²⁷ And Jesus said to her, 'Suffer first the children to be filled, for it is not good to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the little dogs.'

²⁸ And she answered and saith to him, 'Yes, sir; for the little dogs also under the table do eat of the children's crumbs.'

²⁹ And he said to her, 'Because of this word go; the demon hath gone forth out of thy daughter;'

³⁰ and having come away to her house, she found the demon gone forth, and the daughter laid upon the couch.

³¹ And again, having gone forth from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis,

³² and they bring to him a deaf, stuttering man, and they call on him that he may put the hand on him.

³³ And having taken him away from the multitude by himself, he put his fingers to his ears, and having spit, he touched his tongue,
