Mark 4:32-40 in American Standard Version (1901)

32 yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it;
34 and without a parable spake he not unto them: but privately to his own disciples he expounded all things.
35 And on that day, when even was come, he saith unto them, Let us go over unto the other side.
36 And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, even as he was, in the boat. And other boats were with him.
37 And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that the boat was now filling.
38 And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion: and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful? have ye not yet faith?

Mark 4:32-40 in Translation for Translators

32 After they are planted, they grow up and become larger than the other garden plants. They put out big branches so that birds are able to make nests in their shade.”
33 Jesus used many such illustrations when he talked to the people about God. If they were able to understand some, he kept telling them more.
34 He always used parables when he spoke to them. But he explained all the illustrations to his own disciples when he was alone with them.
35 On that same day, when the sun was setting, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross over to the opposite side of Lake Galilee in the boat.”
36 So they left the crowd, got in the boat where Jesus already was, and left. Other people went with them in other boats.
37 A strong wind came up and the waves started coming into the boat! The boat was soon nearly full of water!
38 Jesus was in the back part of the boat. He was sleeping, with his head on a cushion. So they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher! ◄You ought to be concerned that we are about to die!/Are you not concerned that we are about to die?► RHQ”
39 So Jesus got up and rebuked the wind. Then he said to the lake, “Be quiet! Be still! DOU” The wind immediately stopped blowing and then the lake became very calm.
40 He said to the disciples, “◄ I am disappointed that you are afraid like that!/Why are you afraid like that?► RHQ Do you not yet believe that I can protect you?”

33 It was with many such parables that He was speaking the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But apart from a parable He did not speak to them; privately, however, He would explain everything to His disciples.
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
36 Since He was already in the boat, they took off with Him, leaving the crowd behind (other little boats were also with Him).
37 Well a strong cyclonic wind came up, such that the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling up.
38 But He was on the poop deck, sleeping on the cushion; so they awakened Him and said to Him, “Teacher, don't you care that we are perishing?”
39 Then, having been awakened, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Shut up; be muzzled!” So the wind stopped and there was a complete calm.
40 And He said to them: “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

32 But when it's sown it grows into a plant that's larger than other plants. It has branches big enough that birds can roost in its shade.”
33 Jesus used many of these illustrated stories when he spoke to the people so they would understand as much as they could.
34 In fact, when he spoke publicly, he only used stories; however in private he explained everything to his disciples.
35 Later that day, in the evening, he said to his disciples, “Let's go across to the other side of the Sea.”
36 Leaving the crowd behind, the disciples went with Jesus and got into a boat. Other boats went with them.
37 Soon a terrible storm started blowing, and waves crashed against the boat, filling it with water.
38 Jesus was asleep in the stern, resting his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting at him, “Teacher, don't you care that we're about to drown?”
39 Jesus woke up. He told the wind to die down and told the waves, “Be quiet! Be still.” The wind stopped, and the water became completely calm.
40 “Why are you so frightened? Haven't you learned to trust me?” he asked them.

37 As they were going Jesus was aleep at the back, on a blanket, on a pillow, he was sound asleep. After that partway along a really big wind came up, the water became waves, it was entering the dinghy, the water was filling it. Jesus' men became very afraid. They woke him up. They said to him, “Teacher! Truly the water will drown us all. Soon we will die. Save us! Why did you forget us?
39 Jesus got up from sleep, he said told them, “Wind abate! Water go down!” At his word the wind abated right then, the water went down in the same way, it became calm.

32 When one of those small seeds falls into the ground it grows and grows. Later it gets really big with lots of branches, and birds can sit down in the shade on those branches, and they can make their nests there. Well, God’s family will grow like that.”
33 Jesus taught the people this way whenever they were ready to listen.
34 He only used picture stories when he talked to all the people. But later, when Jesus was sitting down with only his followers, he told them what the stories really mean.
35 On that same day, while Jesus was teaching, the sun started to go down. He was still sitting in the boat, so he stopped teaching and told his followers to take him across the lake.
36 So they left all the other people behind and his followers started to take him across the lake in their boat. Some other people got into their boats and followed them.
37 A little bit later a really strong storm came up. The wind was very strong, and the waves started to fill the boat with water. It was ready to sink.
38 Jesus was asleep in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow. His followers were frightened, so they woke him up and they shouted at him, “Hey, Teacher, we will all drown. And you don’t care. Why don’t you do something?”
39 Jesus opened his eyes, stood up and growled at the wind and told that water, “Stop. Be quiet.” Straight away the wind stopped and the water lay down flat. Everything was quiet and still.
40 Jesus then said to his followers, “Why are you so frightened?”

32 yet when it is sown, grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”
33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
34 Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”
36 Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.
37 A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.
38 He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and asked him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

35 And the same day, when the evening was come, he saith to them, Let us pass over to the other side.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the boat, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say to him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still: and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

32 and when it is sprung up, it waxeth into a tree, and is made greater than all herbs; and it maketh great branches, so that the birds of heaven may dwell under the shadow thereof.
33 And in many such parables he spake to them the word, as they might hear;
34 and he spake not to them without parable. But he expounded to his disciples all things by themselves.
35 And he said to them in that day, when evening was come, Pass we again-ward.
36 And they left the people, and took him, so that he was in a boat; and other boats were with him.
37 And a great storm or a tempest of wind was made, and cast waves into the boat, so that the boat was full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the boat, and slept on a pillow. And they raised him, and said to him, Master, pertaineth it not to thee, that we perish?
39 And he rose up, and menaced the wind, and said to the sea, Be still, wax dumb. And the wind ceased, and great peaceableness was made.
40 And he said to them, What dread ye? Yet ye have no faith? or Not yet have ye faith?
