Mark 4:28-35 in American Standard Version (1901)

28 The earth beareth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is ripe, straightway he putteth forth the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, How shall we liken the kingdom of God? or in what parable shall we set it forth?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, though it be less than all the seeds that are upon the earth,
32 yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it;
34 and without a parable spake he not unto them: but privately to his own disciples he expounded all things.
35 And on that day, when even was come, he saith unto them, Let us go over unto the other side.

31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

Mark 4:28-35 in Translation for Translators

28 First the stalks appeared. Then the heads appeared. Then the full kernels in the heads appeared.
29 As soon as the grain was ripe he sent people MTY to harvest it because it was time to harvest the grain.”
30 Jesus told them another parable. He said, “I will tell you RHQ how the number of people whose lives God rules in a new way will continue to grow (OR, each continue to have more and more influence in this world). I hope RHQ that this illustration will show this to you.
31 You know what happens to mustard seeds when we plant them. Though mustard seeds are among the smallest of seeds, here in Israel they become large plants.
32 After they are planted, they grow up and become larger than the other garden plants. They put out big branches so that birds are able to make nests in their shade.”
33 Jesus used many such illustrations when he talked to the people about God. If they were able to understand some, he kept telling them more.
34 He always used parables when he spoke to them. But he explained all the illustrations to his own disciples when he was alone with them.
35 On that same day, when the sun was setting, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross over to the opposite side of Lake Galilee in the boat.”

Mark 4:28-35 in Bible in Basic English

28 The earth gives fruit by herself; first the leaf, then the head, then the full grain.
29 But when the grain is ready, he quickly sends men to get it cut, because the time for cutting has come.
30 And he said, What picture may we give of the kingdom of God, or with what story may we make it clear?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is put in the earth, is smaller than all the seeds on the earth,
32 But when it is planted, it comes up, and becomes taller than all the plants, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of heaven are able to take rest in its shade.
33 And with a number of such stories he gave them his teaching, as they were able to take it:
34 And without a story he said nothing to them: but privately to his disciples he made all things clear.
35 And on that day, when the evening had come, he said to them, Let us go over to the other side.

Mark 4:28-35 in Darby Translation

28 The earth bears fruit of itself, first the blade, then an ear, then full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is produced, immediately he sends the sickle, for the harvest is come.
30 And he said, How should we liken the kingdom of God, or with what comparison should we compare it?
31 As to a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, is less than all seeds which are upon the earth,
32 and when it has been sown, mounts up and becomes greater than all herbs, and produces great branches, so that the birds of heaven can roost under its shadow.
33 And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear,
34 but without a parable spoke he not to them; and in private he explained all things to his disciples.
35 And on that day, when evening was come, he says to them, Let us go over to the other side:

28 For the earth of itself bringeth forth fruit, first the blade, then the ear, afterwards the full corn in the ear.
29 And when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or to what parable shall we compare it?
31 It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:
32 And when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches, so that the birds of the air may dwell under the shadow thereof.
33 And with many such parables, he spoke to them the word, according as they were able to hear.
34 And without parable he did not speak unto them; but apart, he explained all things to his disciples.
35 And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side.

Mark 4:28-35 in English Majority Text Version

28 For the earth produces crops by itself: first a shoot, then a head of grain, then full wheat in the head of grain.
29 But whenever the crop permits, immediately he sends forth the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
30 Then He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God? Or by what sort of parable shall we illustrate it?
31 It is like a mustard seed, which whenever it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on the earth;
32 but whenever it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all the garden vegetables, and produces great branches, so that the birds of heaven are able to nest under its shade.”
33 And by many such parables He would speak the word to them, just as they were able to hear it.
34 And apart from a parable He did not speak to them, however, privately to His disciples, he would explain all things.
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”

Mark 4:28-35 in The New Testament with Commentary

28 All by itself the earth produces fruit: first a shoot, then a head of grain, then full grain in the head.
29 But as soon as the grain is ready, he sends in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
30 Again He said: “To what shall we compare the Kingdom of God, or with what sort of parable should we illustrate it?
31 It is like a mustard seed, that when it is sown on the ground is the smallest of all such seeds,
32 yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden herbs and produces big branches, so that the birds of the air are able to rest in its shade.”
33 It was with many such parables that He was speaking the word to them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But apart from a parable He did not speak to them; privately, however, He would explain everything to His disciples.
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”

Mark 4:28-35 in Free Bible Version

28 The earth produces a harvest by itself. First a shoot appears, then the heads of grain, and then the heads of grain ripen.
29 When the grain is ripe, the farmer reaps it with a sickle, because the harvest is ready.
30 What can we compare God's kingdom to? What illustration shall we use?” he asked.
31 “It's like a mustard seed, the tiniest seed of all.
32 But when it's sown it grows into a plant that's larger than other plants. It has branches big enough that birds can roost in its shade.”
33 Jesus used many of these illustrated stories when he spoke to the people so they would understand as much as they could.
34 In fact, when he spoke publicly, he only used stories; however in private he explained everything to his disciples.
35 Later that day, in the evening, he said to his disciples, “Let's go across to the other side of the Sea.”

Mark 4:28-35 in Plain English Version

30 Jesus talked some more. He said, “Do you know what God’s family is like? I will tell you another picture story to help you understand it.
31 God’s family is like a really little seed. You know that gum tree? Its seeds are very small.
32 When one of those small seeds falls into the ground it grows and grows. Later it gets really big with lots of branches, and birds can sit down in the shade on those branches, and they can make their nests there. Well, God’s family will grow like that.”
33 Jesus taught the people this way whenever they were ready to listen.
34 He only used picture stories when he talked to all the people. But later, when Jesus was sitting down with only his followers, he told them what the stories really mean.
35 On that same day, while Jesus was teaching, the sun started to go down. He was still sitting in the boat, so he stopped teaching and told his followers to take him across the lake.

29 And when of itself it hath brought forth fruit, anon (or at once) he sendeth a sickle, for reaping time is come.
30 And he said, To what thing shall we liken the kingdom of God? or to what parable shall we comparison it?
31 As a corn of sinapi, (or Like a kernel, or a grain, of mustard seed), which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all (the) seeds that be in the earth;
32 and when it is sprung up, it waxeth into a tree (or it groweth into a tree), and is made greater than all (the) herbs; and it maketh great branches, so that the birds of (the) heaven(s) may dwell under the shadow thereof (or so that the birds of the air can live under its shadow).
33 And in many such parables he spake to them the word, as they might hear (or as much as they could understand);
34 and he spake not to them without parable(s). But he expounded to his disciples all things by themselves.
35 And he said to them in that day, when evening was come, Pass we again-ward. (And he said to them on that day, when the evening had come, Let us go over to the other side of Lake Galilee.)

Mark 4:28-35 in Young's Literal Translation

28 for of itself doth the earth bear fruit, first a blade, afterwards an ear, afterwards full corn in the ear;
29 and whenever the fruit may yield itself, immediately he doth send forth the sickle, because the harvest hath come.'
30 And he said, 'To what may we liken the reign of God, or in what simile may we compare it?
31 As a grain of mustard, which, whenever it may be sown on the earth, is less than any of the seeds that are on the earth;
32 and whenever it may be sown, it cometh up, and doth become greater than any of the herbs, and doth make great branches, so that under its shade the fowls of the heaven are able to rest.'
33 And with many such similes he was speaking to them the word, as they were able to hear,
34 and without a simile he was not speaking to them, and by themselves, to his disciples he was expounding all.
35 And he saith to them on that day, evening having come, 'We may pass over to the other side;'
