Mark 4:15-18 in English

¹⁵ And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, straightway cometh Satan, and taketh away the word which hath been sown in them.

¹⁶ And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, straightway receive it with joy;

¹⁷ and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they stumble.

¹⁸ And others are they that are sown among the thorns; these are they that have heard the word,

¹⁵ And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

¹⁶ And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

¹⁷ And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

¹⁸ And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

¹⁵ Some people are like the path on which some of the seeds fell. When they hear the message, Satan comes at once and causes them to forget what they have heard.

¹⁶ Some people are like the ground where the soil was not very deep over rock. When they hear God's message, they immediately accept it with joy.

¹⁷ But, because the message does not penetrate deeply MET into their hearts/inner beings, they believe it for only a short time. They are like the plants that did not have deep roots. When others treat such people badly or cause them to suffer because they believe, those people who are suffering soon stop believing God's message.

¹⁸ Some people are like the soil that had roots of thorny weeds in it. Although those people hear God's message,

¹⁵ The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

¹⁶ These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁷ And they have no root in themselves, but go on for a time; then, when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, they quickly become full of doubts.

¹⁸ And others are those planted among the thorns; these are they who have given ear to the word,

¹⁵ The seeds on the path where the word is sown illustrate those who hear the message, but then Satan immediately comes along and takes away the word that's been sown in them.

¹⁶ Likewise the seeds on the rocky ground illustrate those who hear the word, and happily accept it right away.

¹⁷ But since they have no real roots, they only last for a while until trouble or persecution comes, and then they quickly fall away.

¹⁸ Those sown among the thorns illustrate those who hear the word,

¹⁵ And these are they that receiue the seede by the wayes side, in whome the worde is sowen: but when they haue heard it, Satan commeth immediatly, and taketh away the worde that was sowen in their heartes.

¹⁶ And likewise they that receiue the seede in stony ground, are they, which whe they haue heard the word, straightwayes receiue it with gladnesse.

¹⁷ Yet haue they no roote in themselues, and endure but a time: for when trouble and persecution ariseth for the worde, immediatly they be offended.

¹⁶ These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁷ They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

¹⁸ Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

¹⁵ I said that some seeds fell on the road, and the road was too hard, so the seeds stayed on top of it. They couldn’t grow to make new plants. Those seeds are a picture for God’s word. Some people are too hard and don’t listen to God’s word. They are like that road. The birds are a picture of the devil called Satan. He makes them forget God’s word, so they take no notice of its message.

¹⁶ In my story there was ground with too much rock in it. That is a picture of people that are happy to listen to God’s word and they start to take notice of him.

¹⁷ But other people see them believing that word and those other people make trouble for them, so they stop listening. They soon turn their back and walk away from God’s word.

¹⁸ In my story the man threw seeds into some rubbish grass and that grass blocked them. This is a picture of people that hear God’s word,

¹⁵ And they that are by the wayes syde where the worde is sowen are they to whom assone as they have herde it Satha cometh immediatly and takith awaye the worde that was sowe in their hertes.

¹⁶ And likewise they that are sowen on the stonye groude are they: which when they have harde the worde at once receave it with gladnes

¹⁷ yet have no rotes in them selves and so endure but a tyme: and anone as trouble and persecucion aryseth for the wordes sake they fall immediatly.

¹⁸ And they that are sowe amonge the thornes are soche as heare the worde:

¹⁵ These are the ones that fall beside the road, where the word was sown, but when they hear it, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

¹⁶ These are the ones that are sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁶ And in lijk maner ben these that ben sowun on stony placis, whiche whanne thei han herd the word, anoon thei taken it with ioye;

¹⁷ and thei han not roote in hem silf, but thei ben lastynge a litil tyme; aftirward whanne tribulacioun risith, and persecucioun for the word, anoon thei ben sclaundrid.

¹⁸ And ther ben othir that ben sowun in thornes; these it ben that heren the word,

¹⁵ and these are they by the way where the word is sown: and whenever they may hear, immediately cometh the Adversary, and he taketh away the word that hath been sown in their hearts.
