Luke 12:52-56 in English

⁵² for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.

⁵⁴ And he said to the multitudes also, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it cometh to pass.

⁵⁵ And when ye see a south wind blowing, ye say, There will be a scorching heat; and it cometh to pass.

⁵⁶ Ye hypocrites, ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and the heaven; but how is it that ye know not how to interpret this time?

⁵² Because some people in one house will believe in me and some will not, they will be divided. For example, three people in one house who do not believe in me will oppose two who do believe, or two who do not believe in me will oppose three who do believe.

⁵³ A man will oppose his son, or a son will oppose his father. A woman will oppose her daughter, or a woman will oppose her mother. A woman will oppose her daughter-in-law, or a woman will oppose her mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ He also said to the crowds, “ In this country, when you see a dark cloud forming in the west, you immediately say ‘It is going to rain!’ and that is what happens.

⁵⁵ In this region, when the wind blows from the south, you say, ‘It is going to be a very hot day!’ and that is what happens.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites! By observing the clouds and the wind, you are able to discern what is happening regarding the weather. It is disgusting that you are not able to discern what God is doing at this present time RHQ!

⁵² For from now on, there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

⁵⁵ And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, There will be heat; and so it is.

⁵⁶ O false ones! the face of the earth and the heaven is clear to you; how is it that the signs of these times are not as clear to you?

⁵⁴ Then Jesus spoke to the crowds. “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘a rain-shower's coming,’ and it happens.

⁵⁵ When a south wind blows, you say ‘it's going to be hot,’ and it is.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites, how is it that you know how to rightly interpret the weather but you don't know how to interpret the present time?

⁵² For from hencefoorth there shall be fiue in one house deuided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ The father shalbe deuided against ye sonne, and the sonne against the father: the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother: the mother in lawe against her daughter in lawe, and the daughter in lawe against her mother in lawe.

⁵⁴ Then said he to the people, When ye see a cloude rise out of the West, straightway ye say, A shower commeth: and so it is.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the South winde blowe, ye say, that it wilbe hoate: and it commeth to passe.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites, ye can discerne the face of the earth, and of the skie: but why discerne ye not this time?

⁵² for from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

⁵⁴ And to the people Jesus said, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once ‘There is a storm coming,’ and come it does.

⁵⁵ And when you see that the wind is in the south, you say ‘It will be burning hot,’ and so it proves.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites! You know how to judge of the earth and the sky; how is it, then, that you cannot judge of this time?

⁵² For from this time, if there are five people in a house, they will be divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ Father will be opposed to son and son to father, mother to daughter and daughter to mother, mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ Then Jesus said to all the people, “Sometimes you look toward the west, and you see big clouds coming together, and you say, ‘Here comes some rain.’ And you are right.

⁵⁵ And sometimes the south wind blows, and you say, ‘Today will be really hot.’ And again, you are right.

⁵⁶ But you are fools. You look at the earth and the sky, and you know how to work out what the weather is doing, but whenever you look at the things that are happening right now, you don’t know how to work out what God is doing.”

⁵² For from hence forthe ther shalbe five in one housse devided thre agaynst two and two agaynst thre.

⁵³ The father shalbe devided agaynst the sonne and the sonne agaynst the father. The mother agaynst the doughter and the doughter agaynst the mother. The moter eleawe agaynst hir doughterelawe and the doughterelawe agaynst hir motherelawe.

⁵⁴ Then sayde he to the people: when ye se a cloude ryse out of the west strayght waye ye saye: we shall have a shower and soo it is.

⁵⁵ And when ye se the south wynde blow ye saye: we shall have heet and it cometh to passe.

⁵⁶ Ypocrites ye can skyll of the fassion of the erth and of the skye: but what is the cause that ye cannot skyll of this time?

⁵² For from now on there will be five in one house divided—three people against two, and two people against three.

⁵³ They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rising from the sun going down, anon ye say, Rain cometh; and so it is done.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the south blowing, ye say, That heat shall be; and it is done.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites, ye know how to prove the face of heaven and of earth, but how prove ye not this time?.

⁵² For from this time there shall be five parted in one house; three shall be parted against twain (or two), and twain shall be parted against three;

⁵³ the father against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the husband’s mother against the son’s wife, and the son’s wife against her husband’s mother.

⁵⁴ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rising from the sun going down, anon ye say (or at once ye say), Rain cometh; and so it is done.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the south blowing, ye say, That heat shall be; and it is done.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites, ye know how to prove the face of heaven and of earth, but how prove ye not this time?. (Hypocrites, ye know how to interpret the face of heaven and of earth, but not how to interpret this present time?)

⁵² For fro this tyme ther schulen be fyue departid in oon hous; thre schulen be departid ayens tweyne, and tweyne schulen be departid ayens thre;

⁵³ the fadir ayens the sone, and the sone ayens the fadir; the modir ayens the douytir, and the douytir ayens the modir; the hosebondis modir ayens the sones wijf, and and the sones wijf ayens hir hosebondis modir.

⁵⁴ And he seide also to the puple, Whanne ye seen a cloude risynge fro the sunne goynge doun, anoon ye seien, Reyn cometh; and so it is don.

⁵⁵ And whanne ye seen the south blowynge, ye seien, That heete schal be; and it is don.

⁵⁶ Ypocritis, ye kunnen preue the face of heuene and of erthe, but hou preuen ye not this tyme.

⁵² for there shall be henceforth five in one house divided — three against two, and two against three;

⁵³ a father shall be divided against a son, and a son against a father, a mother against a daughter, and a daughter against a mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.'

⁵⁴ And he said also to the multitudes, 'When ye may see the cloud rising from the west, immediately ye say, A shower doth come, and it is so;

⁵⁵ and when — a south wind blowing, ye say, that there will be heat, and it is;

⁵⁶ hypocrites! the face of the earth and of the heaven ye have known to make proof of, but this time — how do ye not make proof of it?
