²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

²⁶ And he said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

³⁰ Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

³¹ And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

³² And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion,

³⁴ and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

³⁴ And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

³⁴ And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion,

²⁵ One day as Jesus was teaching people, a man was there who had studied carefully the laws that God gave Moses. He wanted to ask Jesus a difficult question. So he stood up and asked, “Teacher, what shall I do in order to live with God forever?”

²⁶ Jesus said to him, “You (sg) have read RHQ what Moses has written in the laws that God gave him. What did Moses write about living forever?”

²⁷ The man replied, “ He wrote that we (inc) must love the Lord our God. We must show that by what we feel and by what we do and by what we think. He also wrote that we must love people that we come in contact with as much as we love ourselves.”

²⁸ Jesus replied, “You (sg) have answered your question correctly. If you do all that continually, you will live with God forever.”

²⁹ But the man wanted to defend the way he acted toward people that he came in contact with (OR, to defend why he had asked a question that Jesus answered so simply). So he said to Jesus, “Which people that I come in contact with should I love?”

³⁰ Jesus replied by telling him this illustration: “A Jewish man was once going down along the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. Bandits attacked him. They took away most of the man's clothes and everything else that he had, and they beat him until he was almost dead. Then they left him.

³¹ It happened that a Jewish priest was going along that road. When he saw that man, instead of helping him, he passed by on the other side of the road.

³² Similarly, a man who worked in the temple in Jerusalem came to that place and saw the man. But he also passed by on the other side of the road.

³³ Then a man from Samaria province came along that road to where the man was lying. People from Samaria despise Jews. But when he saw that man, he pitied him.

³⁴ He went over to him and put some olive oil and wine on his wounds to help heal them. He wound strips of cloth around the wounds. He placed the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn and took care of him.

²⁵ Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”

²⁷ He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”

²⁸ He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”

²⁷ And he, answering, said, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and for your neighbour as for yourself.

²⁸ And he said, You have given the right answer: do this and you will have life.

²⁹ But he, desiring to put himself in the right, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

³⁰ And Jesus, answering him, said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he got into the hands of thieves, who took his clothing and gave him cruel blows, and when they went away, he was half dead.

³¹ And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he went by on the other side.

³² And in the same way, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, went by on the other side.

³³ But a certain man of Samaria, journeying that way, came where he was, and when he saw him, he was moved with pity for him,

³⁴ And came to him and put clean linen round his wounds, with oil and wine; and he put him on his beast and took him to a house and took care of him.

²⁵ And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting him, and saying, Teacher, having done what, shall I inherit life eternal?

²⁶ And he said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

²⁷ But he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thine understanding; and thy neighbour as thyself.

²⁸ And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do and thou shalt live.

²⁹ But he, desirous of justifying himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

³⁰ And Jesus replying said, A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers, who also, having stripped him and inflicted wounds, went away leaving him in a half-dead state.

³¹ And a certain priest happened to go down that way, and seeing him, passed on on the opposite side;

³² and in like manner also a Levite, being at the spot, came and looked at him and passed on on the opposite side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion,

³⁴ and came up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, took him to the inn and took care of him.

³⁴ And going up to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³⁰ Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and encountered bandits, who after having stripped him of his clothing and having wounded him, departed, leaving him half dead.

³¹ Now by coincidence a certain priest was coming down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

³² Likewise a Levite, arriving at the place, came and saw, and passed by on the opposite side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came by him; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion.

³⁴ And coming to him, he bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and putting him on his own animal, he brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

²⁵ And then, a certain lawyer stood up to test Him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

³¹ Now by coincidence a certain priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.

³² So too, a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came by there, and upon seeing him was moved with compassion;

³⁴ and going to him he bound up his wounds, applying oil and wine. Then he placed him on his own mount, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

²⁵ Once an expert in religious law stood up and tried to trap Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “What do I have to do to gain eternal life?”

²⁶ “What is written in the law? How do you read it?” asked Jesus.

²⁷ “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and your whole spirit, and your whole strength, and your whole mind; and love your neighbor as yourself,” the man replied.

²⁸ “You're right,” Jesus told him. “Do this, and you will live.”

²⁹ But the man wanted to vindicate himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

³⁰ Jesus replied, saying, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was attacked by robbers who stripped him and beat him, and left him for dead.

³¹ It so happened that a priest was going the same way. He saw the man, but he passed by on the other side of the road.

³² Then a Levite came along. But when he got to the place and saw the man, he also passed by on the other side.

³³ Finally a Samaritan man came along. As he passed by, he saw the man and felt sorry for him.

³⁴ He went over and treated the man's wounds with oil and wine, and bandaged them. Then he placed the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn where he took care of him.

²⁵ Then beholde, a certaine Lawyer stoode vp, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I doe, to inherite eternall life?

²⁶ And he saide vnto him, What is written in the Lawe? howe readest thou?

²⁷ And he answered, and saide, Thou shalt loue thy Lord God with all thine heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy strength, and with all thy thought, and thy neighbour as thy selfe.

²⁸ Then he said vnto him, Thou hast answered right: this doe, and thou shalt liue.

²⁹ But he willing to iustifie himselfe, said vnto Iesus, Who is then my neighbour?

³⁰ And Iesus answered, and saide, A certaine man went downe from Hierusalem to Iericho, and fell among theeues, and they robbed him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leauing him halfe dead.

³¹ Nowe so it fell out, that there came downe a certaine Priest that same way, and when he sawe him, he passed by on the other side.

³² And likewise also a Leuite, when he was come neere to the place, went and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

³³ Then a certaine Samaritane, as he iourneyed, came neere vnto him, and when he sawe him, he had compassion on him,

³⁴ And went to him, and bound vp his wounds, and powred in oyle and wine, and put him on his owne beast, and brought him to an Inne, and made prouision for him.

²⁷ His reply was — “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as you love yourself.”

²⁸ “You have answered right,” said Jesus; “do that, and you will live.”

³⁴ He went to him and bound up his wounds, dressing them with oil and wine, and then put him on his own mule, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

²⁵ Just then a Student of the Law came forward to test Jesus further. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do if I am to gain eternal life?”

²⁶ “What is said in the Law?” answered Jesus. “What do you read there?”

²⁷ His reply was — “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as you love yourself.”

²⁷ He answered, “You shall have agapao ·total devotion love· to MarYah Master Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”

²⁸ He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Yeshua Salvation, “Who is my neighbor?”

³⁰ Yeshua Salvation answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem City of peace to Jericho Fragrant, Moon, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

³¹ By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

³² In the same way a Levite Descendant of United with also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan person from Watch-mountain, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,

³⁴ came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

²⁵ One day a man came to Jesus and tried to get him to say something wrong, so he asked a hard question. He was a man that knew a lot about the Jewish laws. He asked Jesus, “What can I do so that I will live a good life for ever, and never die?”

²⁶ Jesus said, “You know God’s laws, and you read them all the time. What do you reckon they say?”

²⁷ The man answered, “One law says this, ‘You have to love God properly, not just a little bit. You have to love God from right inside yourself. You have to love God in the way you feel, and in the way you think. And you have to love God in the way you do things.’ And another law says this, ‘You have to love the other people around you just as much as you love yourself.’”

²⁸ Jesus said, “You are right. Do what those laws say and you will live real good.”

²⁹ But the man wanted to show that he did the right thing when he asked that question, so he said, “Who are the other people around me?”

³⁰ Jesus answered that question by telling this picture story. He said, “A man was going down the road from Jerusalem city to the town called Jericho. About half way along that road some bad men grabbed him. They beat him up, and they took everything he had, even his clothes, and then they ran away. They left him lying there, half dead.

³¹ After that, a man that looked after the Jewish ceremonies was walking down that road. He saw that man lying there, but he didn’t do anything to help him. He went over to the other side of the road to go past him, and he kept going down the road.

³² After that a man that helped in the Jewish ceremonies came along the road. He looked at the man lying there, then he went to the other side of the road to go past him, and he kept going down the road.

³³ Then a man from Samaria country came along the road. He was riding on a donkey. He saw the man lying there and he felt sorry for him.

³⁴ He went to that man and helped him. He treated the places where he was bleeding. He put wine and oil on them, and bandaged them, to help them get better. Then he lifted him up and put him on his donkey and took him to a hotel, and they both stayed there that night.

²⁸ And he sayde vnto him: Thou hast answered right. This do and thou shalt live.

²⁹ He willinge to iustifie him silfe sayde vnto Iesus: Who is then my neghbour?

³⁰ Iesus answered and sayde: A certayne man descended from Hierusalem into Hierico and fell in to the hondes of theves which robbed him of his raymet and wounded him and departed levynge him halfe deed.

³¹ And by chaunce ther came a certayne preste that same waye and when he sawe him he passed by.

³² And lykewyse a Levite when he was come nye to the place wet and loked on him and passed by.

³³ Then a certayne Samaritane as he iornyed came nye vnto him and when he sawe him had compassion on him

³⁴ and went to and bounde vp his woundes and poured in oyle and wyne and put him on his awne beaste and brought him to a comen ynne and made provision for him.

²⁵ Behold, a certain teacher of the Jewish laws stood up so that he might test him, saying, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁶ Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”

²⁷ He gave an answer and he said, “You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

²⁸ Jesus said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”

²⁹ But the teacher, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”

³⁰ Jesus answered him and said, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. He fell among robbers, who stripped him of his belongings, and beat him, and left him half dead.

³¹ By chance a certain priest was going down that way, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

³² Similarly a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion.

³⁴ He approached him and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³⁰ And Jesus beheld, and said, A man or Some man came down from Jerusalem into Jericho, and fell among thieves, and they robbed him, and wounded him, and went away, and left the man half alive.

³¹ And it befell, that a priest came down the same way, and passed forth, when he had seen him.

³² Also a deacon, when he was beside the place, and saw him, passed forth.

³³ But a Samaritan, going the way, came beside him; and he saw him, and had ruth on him; Forsooth some Samaritan, making journey, came beside the way; and he seeing him, was stirred by mercy;

³⁴ and came to him, and bound together his wounds, and poured in oil and wine; and laid him on his beast, and led him in to an hostelry, and did the care of him.

²⁵ And lo! a wise man of the law rose up, tempting him, and saying, Master, what thing shall I do to have everlasting life? (And behold! a man wise in the Law rose up to test him, and asked, Teacher, what should I do to get eternal life?)

²⁶ And he said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

²⁷ He answered, and said, Thou shalt love thy Lord God of all thine heart or Thou shalt love the Lord thy God of all thine heart, and of all thy soul, and of all thy strengths, and of all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. ²⁸ And Jesus said to him, Thou hast answered rightly (or Thou hast answered correctly); do this thing, and thou shalt live.

²⁷ He answeride, and seide, Thou schalt loue thi Lord God of al thin herte, and of al thi soule, and of alle thi strengthis, and of al thi mynde; and thi neiybore as thi silf.

²⁸ And Jhesus seide to hym, Thou hast answerid riytli; do this thing, and thou schalt lyue.

²⁹ But he willynge to iustifie hym silf, seide to Jhesu, And who is my neiybore?

³⁰ And Jhesu biheld, and seide, A man cam doun fro Jerusalem in to Jerico, and fel among theues, and thei robbiden hym, and woundiden hym, and wente awei, and leften the man half alyue.

³¹ And it bifel, that a prest cam doun the same weie, and passide forth, whanne he hadde seyn hym.

³² Also a dekene, whanne he was bisidis the place, and saiy him, passide forth.

³³ But a Samaritan, goynge the weie, cam bisidis hym; and he siy hym, and hadde reuthe on hym;

³⁴ and cam to hym, and boond togidir hise woundis, and helde in oyle and wynne; and leide hym on his beest, and ledde in to an ostrie, and dide the cure of hym.

²⁵ And lo, a certain lawyer stood up, trying him, and saying, 'Teacher, what having done, life age-during shall I inherit?'

²⁶ And he said unto him, 'In the law what hath been written? how dost thou read?'

²⁷ And he answering said, 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of all thy soul, and out of all thy strength, and out of all thy understanding, and thy neighbour as thyself.'

²⁸ And he said to him, 'Rightly thou didst answer; this do, and thou shalt live.'

²⁹ And he, willing to declare himself righteous, said unto Jesus, 'And who is my neighbour?'

³⁰ and Jesus having taken up the word, said, 'A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and having stripped him and inflicted blows, they went away, leaving him half dead.

³¹ 'And by a coincidence a certain priest was going down in that way, and having seen him, he passed over on the opposite side;

³² and in like manner also, a Levite, having been about the place, having come and seen, passed over on the opposite side.

³³ 'But a certain Samaritan, journeying, came along him, and having seen him, he was moved with compassion,

³⁴ and having come near, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, and having lifted him up on his own beast, he brought him to an inn, and was careful of him;
