Luke 5:1-12 in English

¹ Now it came to pass, while the multitude pressed upon him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret;

² and he saw two boats standing by the lake: but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

³ And he entered into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the multitudes out of the boat.

⁴ And when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

⁵ And Simon answered and said, Master, we toiled all night, and took nothing: but at thy word I will let down the nets.

⁶ And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes; and their nets were breaking;

⁷ and they beckoned unto their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁹ For he was amazed, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken;

¹⁰ and so were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹¹ And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all, and followed him.

¹² And it came to pass, while he was in one of the cities, behold, a man full of leprosy: and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

² And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

⁷ And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁹ For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

¹⁰ And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹¹ And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

¹² And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

² And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

¹ One day while many people were crowding around him to hear the message from God, Jesus was standing on the shore of Gennesaret Lake, which is also called Lake Galilee.

² He saw two fishing boats at the edge of the lake. The fishermen had gone out of the boats and were washing their fishing nets on the shore. One of the boats belonged to Simon.

³ Jesus got in that boat and asked Simon to push the boat a little bit away from the shore so that he could speak to the crowd more easily. Jesus sat in the boat and taught the people who were on the shore.

⁴ After he finished speaking to them, he said to Simon, “Push the boat out to where the water is deep. Then let your nets down into the water to catch some fish!”

⁵ Simon replied, “Master, we (exc) worked hard all night but we did not catch any fish . But because you (sg) tell me to do it, I will let down the nets.”

⁶ When Peter and the men with him had done that, they caught so many fish that their nets were breaking.

⁷ They motioned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. So they came and filled both the boats with fish from the net. The result was that the boats were so full that they began to sink.

⁸ Simon and all the men who were with him were amazed at how many fish they had taken. James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, who were Simon's partners, were among those who were amazed. When Simon, whose other name was Peter, saw the fish, feeling ashamed to be in the presence of someone who obviously had God's power, he prostrated himself before Jesus and said, “Lord, you should go away from me, because I am a sinful man!”

¹⁰ But Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid! Up until now you(sg) have been gathering fish MET, but from now on you will gather people to become my disciples.”

¹¹ So after they brought the boats to the shore, they left their business HYP in the hands of others and went with Jesus.

¹² While Jesus was in one of the cities there in the district of Galilee, there was a man there who was very severely affected by leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he prostrated himself before him and, wanting Jesus to heal him, pleaded with him, “Lord/Sir, please heal me, because you are able to heal me if you are willing to!”

² And he saw two boats by the edge of the water, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.

³ And he got into one of the boats, the property of Simon, and made a request to him to go a little way out from the land. And being seated he gave the people teaching from the boat.

⁴ And when his talk was ended, he said to Simon, Go out into deep water, and let down your nets for fish.

⁵ And Simon, answering, said, Master, we were working all night and we took nothing: but at your word I will let down the nets.

⁶ And when they had done this, they got such a great number of fish that it seemed as if their nets would be broken;

⁷ And they made signs to their friends in the other boat to come to their help. And they came, and the two boats were so full that they were going down.

⁸ But Simon, when he saw it, went down at the knees of Jesus and said, Go away from me, O Lord, for I am a sinner.

⁹ For he was full of wonder and so were all those who were with him, at the number of fish which they had taken;

¹⁰ And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were working with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from this time forward you will be a fisher of men.

¹¹ And when they had got their boats to the land, they gave up everything and went after him.

¹² And it came about that while he was in one of the towns, there was a leper there: and when he saw Jesus he went down on his face in prayer to him, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean.

¹ And it came to pass, as the crowd pressed on him to hear the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret:

² and he saw two ships standing by the lake, but the fishermen, having come down from them, were washing their nets.

³ And getting into one of the ships, which was Simon's, he asked him to draw out a little from the land; and he sat down and taught the crowds out of the ship.

⁴ But when he ceased speaking, he said to Simon, Draw out into the deep water and let down your nets for a haul.

⁵ And Simon answering said to him, Master, having laboured through the whole night we have taken nothing, but at thy word I will let down the net.

⁶ And having done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes. And their net broke.

⁷ And they beckoned to their partners who were in the other ship to come and help them, and they came, and filled both the ships, so that they were sinking.

⁸ But Simon Peter, seeing it, fell at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord.

⁹ For astonishment had laid hold on him, and on all those who were with him, at the haul of fishes which they had taken;

¹⁰ and in like manner also on James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Fear not; henceforth thou shalt be catching men.

¹¹ And having run the ships on shore, leaving all they followed him.

¹² And it came to pass as he was in one of the cities, that behold, there was a man full of leprosy, and seeing Jesus, falling upon his face, he besought him saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou art able to cleanse me.

¹ And it came to pass, that when the multitudes pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Genesareth,

² And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

³ And going into one of the ships that was Simon’s, he desired him to draw back a little from the land. And sitting he taught the multitudes out of the ship.

⁴ Now when he had ceased to speak, he said to Simon: Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

⁵ And Simon answering said to him: Master, we have labored all the night, and have taken nothing: but at thy word I will let down the net.

⁶ And when they had done this, they enclosed a very great multitude of fishes, and their net broke.

⁹ For he was wholly astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken.

¹⁰ And so were also James and John the sons of Zebedee, who were Simon’s partners. And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹¹ And having brought their ships to land, leaving all things, they followed him.

⁵ But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have labored all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will lower the net.”

⁶ And when they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was tearing.

⁷ So they beckoned to their partners who were in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they were sinking.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”

⁹ For astonishment gripped him and all who were with him at the haul of fish which they had taken.

¹⁰ And likewise also it gripped James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear; from now on you shall be catching men.”

¹¹ And having brought the boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.

¹² And it came to pass while He was in a certain city, that behold, there was a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, falling on his face he begged Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can cleanse me.”

¹ Now it happened, as He had come along the Lake of Genesaret, that the multitude crowded Him to hear the Word of God;

² He saw two boats standing by the lake (the fishermen were out of them, washing their nets).

³ So He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Sitting down He began to teach the crowds from the boat.

⁴ When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

⁵ And in answer Simon said to Him, “Master, we have worked hard the whole night and caught nothing, but based on your word I will let down the net.”

⁶ When they had done this, they caught such a large number of fish that their net began to tear.

⁷ So they signaled to their partners who were in the other boat to come help them; they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

⁸ Upon experiencing this Simon Peter fell at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”

⁹ Because astonishment gripped him and all who were with him at the haul of fish which they had caught;

¹⁰ yes, this included James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don't be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.”

¹¹ Pulling the boats up on the shore, they left it all and followed Him.

¹² Now it happened, while He was in one of the towns—a man full of leprosy! Upon seeing Jesus he fell on his face and begged Him, saying, “Lord, if you want to, you can cleanse me!”

¹ One day, as Jesus was standing beside the Sea of Galilee, people crowded around him to hear the word of God.

² Jesus noticed two boats lying on the shore, left there by fishermen who were washing their nets.

³ Jesus got into a boat, the one that belonged to Simon, and asked him to push it out into the water, just offshore. Then Jesus sat down in the boat and taught the people from there.

⁴ After he'd finished speaking, he told Simon, “Go out into deeper water, and let down your nets for a catch.”

⁵ “Lord, we worked hard all night, and didn't catch anything. But if you say so, I'll let down the nets,” Simon replied.

⁶ Having done this, a large shoal of fish filled the nets full to breaking point.

⁷ They waved to their partners in the other boat, asking them to come over and help. The others came over and together they filled both of the boats with fish. The boats were so full that they began to sink.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw what had happened, he dropped to his knees before Jesus. “Lord, please stay away from me, for I am a sinful man!” he exclaimed.

⁹ For he and everybody with him were completely amazed by the catch of fish that they had landed.

¹⁰ James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners, felt the same way. “Don't be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you'll be fishing for people!”

¹¹ So they dragged the boats onto the shore, left everything, and followed Jesus.

¹² Once when Jesus was visiting one of the towns, he met a man there who had a very bad case of leprosy. The man fell with his face to the ground and begged Jesus, “Please Lord, if you're willing, you can make me clean.”

¹ Then it came to passe, as the people preassed vpon him to heare the word of God, that he stoode by the lake of Gennesaret,

² And sawe two shippes stand by the lakes side, but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nettes.

³ And he entred into one of the ships, which was Simons, and required him that he would thrust off a litle from the land: and he sate downe, and taught the people out of the ship.

⁴ Now when he had left speaking, he sayd vnto Simon, Lanch out into the deepe, and let downe your nettes to make a draught.

⁵ Then Simon answered, and sayd vnto him, Master, we haue trauailed sore all night, and haue taken nothing: neuerthelesse at thy worde I will let downe the net.

⁶ And when they had so done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes, so that their net brake.

⁷ And they beckened to their parteners, which were in the other ship, that they shoulde come and helpe them, who came then, and filled both the ships, that they did sinke.

⁸ Now when Simon Peter saw it, he fel down at Iesus knees, saying, Lord, go from me: for I am a sinfull man.

⁹ For he was vtterly astonied, and all that were with him, for the draught of fishes which they tooke.

¹⁰ And so was also Iames and Iohn the sonnes of Zebedeus, which were companions with Simon. Then Iesus sayde vnto Simon, Feare not: from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹¹ And when they had brought the ships to land, they forsooke all, and followed him.

¹² Nowe it came to passe, as he was in a certaine citie, beholde, there was a man full of leprosie, and when he sawe Iesus, he fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me cleane.

¹ And it came to pass that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

¹ Once, when the people were pressing around Jesus as they listened to God's message, he happened to be standing by the shore of the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats close to the shore.

² The fishermen had gone away from them and were washing the nets.

³ So, getting into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, Jesus asked him to push off a little way from the shore, and then sat down and taught the people from the boat.

⁴ When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Push off into deep water, and throw out your nets for a haul.”

⁵ “We have been hard at work all night, Sir,” answered Simon, “and have not caught anything, but, at your bidding, I will throw out the nets.”

⁶ They did so, and enclosed such a great shoal of fish that their nets began to break.

⁷ So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; and they came and filled both the boats so full of fish that they were almost sinking.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he threw himself down at Jesus' knees, exclaiming, “Master, leave me, for I am a sinful man!”

⁹ For he and all who were with him were lost in amazement at the haul of fish which they had made;

¹⁰ and so, too, were James and John, Zebedee's sons, who were Simon's partners. “Do not be afraid,” Jesus said to Simon; “from today you will catch people.”

¹¹ And, when they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything, and followed him.

¹² On one occasion Jesus was staying in a town, when he saw a man who was covered with leprosy. When the leper saw Jesus, he threw himself on his face and implored his help, “Master, if only you are willing, you are able to make me clean.”

¹ Once, when the people were pressing around Jesus as they listened to God's message, he happened to be standing by the shore of the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats close to the shore.

² The fishermen had gone away from them and were washing the nets.

³ So, getting into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, Jesus asked him to push off a little way from the shore, and then sat down and taught the people from the boat.

⁴ When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Push off into deep water, and throw out your nets for a haul.”

⁵ “We have been hard at work all night, Sir,” answered Simon, “and have not caught anything, but, at your bidding, I will throw out the nets.”

⁶ They did so, and enclosed such a great shoal of fish that their nets began to break.

⁷ So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; and they came and filled both the boats so full of fish that they were almost sinking.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he threw himself down at Jesus' knees, exclaiming, “Master, leave me, for I am a sinful man!”

⁹ For he and all who were with him were lost in amazement at the haul of fish which they had made;

⁵ And Simon answered and sayde to him: Master we have labored all nyght and have taken nothinge. Neverthelater at thy worde I will loose forthe the net.

⁶ And when they had so done they inclosed a greate multitude of fisshes. And their net brake:

⁷ but they made signes to their felowes which were in the other ship that they shuld come and helpe the And they came: and filled bothe the shippes that they soncke agayne.

⁸ When Simon Peter sawe that he fell doune at Iesus knees sayinge: Lorde goo from me for I am a synfull man.

³ And he wente vp in to a boot, that was Symoundis, and preiede hym to lede it a litil fro the loond; and he seet, and tauyte the puple out of the boot.

⁴ And as he ceesside to speke, he seide to Symount, Lede thou in to the depthe, and slake youre nettis to take fisch.

⁵ And Symount answeride, and seide to hym, Comaundoure, we traueliden al the nyyt, and token no thing, but in thi word Y schal leye out the net.

⁶ And whanne thei hadden do this thing, thei closiden togidir a greet multitude of fischis; and her net was brokun.

⁷ And thei bikenyden to felawis, that weren in anothir boot, that thei schulden come, and helpe hem. And thei camen, and filliden bothe the bootis, so that thei weren almost drenchid.

⁸ And whanne Symount Petir saiy this thing, he felde doun to the knees of Jhesu, and seide, Lord, go fro me, for Y am a synful man.
