²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

²⁸ And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further.

²⁹ And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us; for it is toward evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in to abide with them.

³⁰ And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them.

³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

³² And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?

³³ And they rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

³⁴ saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

³⁵ And they rehearsed the things that happened in the way, and how he was known of them in the breaking of the bread.

³⁶ And as they spake these things, he himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

³⁷ But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they beheld a spirit.

³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do questionings arise in your heart?

³⁹ See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye behold me having.

⁴⁰ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here anything to eat?

⁴² And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish.

⁴³ And he took it, and ate before them.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.

⁴⁵ Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures;

⁴⁶ and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ Ye are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.

⁵⁰ And he led them out until they were over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

⁵¹ And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.

³⁶ And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

³⁷ But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

³⁹ Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

⁴² And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

⁴³ And he took it, and did eat before them.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

⁴⁵ Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

⁴⁶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

⁴⁷ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ And ye are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

⁵¹ And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.

²⁷ Then he explained to them all the things that the prophets had written in the Scriptures about himself. He started with what Moses MTY wrote and then explained to them what all the other prophets wrote.

²⁸ They came near to the village to which the two men were going. Jesus indicated that he would go further,

²⁹ but they urged him to not do that. They said, “Stay with us tonight, because it is late in the afternoon and it will soon be dark.” So he went in the house to stay with them.

³⁰ When they sat down to eat, he took some bread and asked God to bless it. He broke it and gave some pieces to them.

³¹ And just then God enabled them to recognize MTY him. But immediately he disappeared!

³² The two men said to each other, “ While we were walking along the road and he talked with us and enabled us (inc) to understand the Scriptures, we became so excited that it was as though MET a fire was burning within us RHQ! We should not stay here; we should go tell the others what happened!”

³³ So they left immediately and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven apostles and others who had gathered together with them

³⁴ who told those two men, “It is true that the Lord has become alive again, and he has appeared to Peter!”

³⁵ Then those two men told the others what had happened as they were walking along the road. They also told them how they both recognized Jesus as he broke some bread for them.

³⁶ As they were saying that, Jesus himself suddenly appeared among them. He said to them, “ May God give you inner peace!”

³⁷ They were startled and afraid, because they thought that they were seeing a ghost!

³⁸ He said to them, “◄You should not be alarmed!/Why are you alarmed?► RHQ And ◄you should not be doubting that I am alive/Jesus!/why are you doubting that I am alive/Jesus?► RHQ

³⁹ Look at the wounds in my hands and my feet! You can touch me and see my body. Then you can see that it is really I myself. You can tell that I am really alive because ghosts do not have bodies, as you see that I have!”

⁴⁰ After he said that, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ They were joyful and amazed, but they still did not believe that he was really alive (OR, that Jesus was the one that they were seeing). So he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

⁴² So they gave him a piece of broiled fish.

⁴³ While they were watching, he took it and ate it.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “ I will repeat what I told you while I was still with you: Everything that was written about me by Moses and the other prophets MTY and in the Psalms must be fulfilled!”

⁴⁵ Then he enabled them to understand the things that had been written about him in the Scriptures.

⁴⁶ He said to them, “This is what they wrote: That the Messiah would suffer and die, but on the third day after that he would become alive again.

⁴⁷ They also wrote that the message must be preached { that his disciples must preach the message} everywhere that people must turn from their sinful ways for God to forgive their sins. They wrote that his followers should preach that message, claiming his authority MTY. They wrote that they should start preaching it in Jerusalem, and then go and preach it to all ethnic groups.

⁴⁸ You apostles must tell people that you know that those things that happened to me are true.

⁴⁹ And I want you to know that I will send the Holy Spirit MTY to you, as my Father promised that he would do. But you must stay in this city until God fills you with the power of his Spirit.”

⁵⁰ Then Jesus led them outside the city until they came near Bethany village. There he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

⁵¹ As he was doing that, he left them and went up to heaven.

³³ They rose up that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

²⁸ And they came near the town to which they were going, and he seemed as if he was going on;

²⁹ But they kept him back, saying, Do not go, for evening is near, the day is almost gone. And he went in with them.

³⁰ And when he was seated with them at table, he took the bread, and said words of blessing and, making division of it, he gave it to them.

³¹ And then their eyes were open, and they had knowledge of him, but he went from their view.

³² And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning in us while he was talking to us on the way, making clear to us the holy Writings?

³³ And that very hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others had come together.

³⁴ And they said to them, The Lord has truly come back to life again, and Simon has seen him.

³⁵ And they gave an account of the things which had taken place on the way, and how, when he gave them bread, they had knowledge of him.

³⁶ And while they were saying these things, he himself was among them, and said to them, Peace be with you!

³⁷ But they were full of fear, being of the opinion that they were seeing a spirit.

³⁸ And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why are your hearts full of doubt?

³⁹ See; my hands and my feet: it is I myself; put your hands on me and make certain; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.

⁴⁰ And when he had said this, he let them see his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ And because, for joy and wonder, they were still in doubt, he said to them, Have you any food here?

⁴² And they gave him a bit of cooked fish.

⁴³ And before their eyes he took a meal.

⁴⁴ And he said to them, These are the words which I said to you when I was still with you, how it was necessary for all the things which are in the writings of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms about me, to be put into effect.

⁴⁵ Then he made the holy Writings clear to their minds.

⁴⁶ And he said to them, So it is in the Writings that the Christ would undergo death, and come back to life again on the third day;

⁴⁷ And that teaching about a change of heart and forgiveness of sins is to be given to Jerusalem first and to all nations in his name.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ And now I will send to you what my father has undertaken to give you, but do not go from the town, till the power from heaven comes to you.

⁵⁰ And he took them out till they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he gave them a blessing.

⁵¹ And while he was doing so, he went from them and was taken up into heaven.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ And ye are witnesses of these things.

³⁶ Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.

³⁷ But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit.

³⁸ And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

³⁹ See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.

⁴⁰ And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet.

⁴¹ But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat?

⁴² And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.

⁴³ And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them.

⁴⁴ And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

⁴⁵ Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.

⁴⁶ And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:

⁴⁷ And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ And you are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high.

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as Bethania: and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.

⁵¹ And it came to pass, whilst he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up to heaven.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

²⁸ Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He made as though He was going farther.

²⁹ But they constrained Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.

³⁰ Now it came to pass, as He was reclining to eat with them, having taken bread, He blessed and broke it, and He gave it to them.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.

³² And they said to one another, “Was not our heart burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, and while He was interpreting the Scriptures to us?”

³³ So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,

³⁴ saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”

³⁵ And they described the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

³⁶ Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”

³⁷ But being alarmed and becoming fearful, they thought they saw a spirit.

³⁸ And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?

³⁹ Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

⁴⁰ When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.

⁴¹ But as they still disbelieved for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Do you have any food here?”

⁴² So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.

⁴³ And taking it, He ate it in their presence.

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”

⁴⁵ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

⁴⁶ Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

⁴⁷ and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ And you are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ And behold, I am sending the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

²⁷ Then, starting with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them everything that was said in Scripture about himself.

²⁸ As they approached the village they were going to, Jesus made it seem as if he was going farther.

²⁹ But they urged him, saying, “Please come and stay with us. It's getting late—the day is almost over.” So he went to stay with them.

³⁰ When he sat down to eat with them, he took the bread and gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them.

³¹ Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Then he disappeared from view.

³² The two disciples said to each other, “Weren't our thoughts on fire when he spoke to us, as he explained the Scriptures to us?”

³³ They got up right away and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and those who were with them meeting together,

³⁴ who said, “The Lord has really risen again! He has appeared to Simon.”

³⁵ Then those who had just arrived explained to the other disciples what had happened to them on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus when he broke bread.

³⁶ While they were talking, Jesus himself stood among them, and said, “Peace to you!”

³⁷ They were startled and afraid, thinking they were seeing a ghost.

³⁸ “Why are you frightened? Why are you doubting?” he asked them.

³⁹ “Look at my hands and my feet—you can see it's me. Touch me and you'll be certain, for a spirit doesn't have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

⁴⁰ Having said this, he showed them his hands and feet.

⁴¹ But they still couldn't believe it because they were so elated and amazed. He asked them, “Do you have anything to eat?”

⁴² They gave him a piece of cooked fish,

⁴³ and he took it and ate it in front of them.

⁴⁴ Then Jesus said to them, “This is what I explained to you while I was still with you. Everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, had to be fulfilled.”

⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds so they were able to understand the Scriptures.

⁴⁶ He told them, “It was written like this: the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and in his name

⁴⁷ repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of all this.

⁴⁹ Now I'm going to send you what my Father promised—but wait in the city until you receive power from heaven.”

⁵⁰ Then he led them out until they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.

⁵¹ While he was blessing them, he left them, and was taken up to heaven.

²⁷ And he began at Moses, and at all the Prophets, and interpreted vnto them in all the Scriptures the things which were written of him.

²⁸ And they drew neere vnto ye towne, which they went to, but he made as though hee would haue gone further.

²⁹ But they constrained him, saying, Abide with vs: for it is towards night, and the day is farre spent. So he went in to tarie with them.

³⁰ And it came to passe, as hee sate at table with them, he tooke the bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gaue it to them.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened, and they knewe him: and he was no more seene of them.

³² And they saide betweene themselues, Did not our heartes burne within vs, while he talked with vs by the way, and when he opened to vs the Scriptures?

³³ And they rose vp the same houre, and returned to Hierusalem, and found the Eleuen gathered together, and them that were with them,

³⁴ Which said, The Lord is risen in deede, and hath appeared to Simon.

³⁵ Then they tolde what things were done in the way, and howe he was knowen of them in breaking of bread.

³⁶ And as they spake these things, Iesus himselfe stoode in the middes of them, and saide vnto them, Peace be to you.

³⁷ But they were abashed and afraide, supposing that they had seene a spirit.

³⁸ Then he saide vnto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore doe doutes arise in your hearts?

³⁹ Beholde mine handes and my feete: for it is I my selfe: handle me, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me haue.

⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and feete.

⁴¹ And while they yet beleeued not for ioy, and wondred, he saide vnto them, Haue ye here any meate?

²⁸ When they got near the village to which they were walking, Jesus appeared to be going further;

²⁹ but they pressed him not to do so. “Stay with us,” they said, “for it is getting towards evening, and the sun in already low.” So Jesus went in to stay with them.

³⁰ After he had taken his place at the table with them, he took the bread and said the blessing, and broke it, and gave it to them.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him; but he disappeared from their sight.

³² “How our hearts glowed,” the disciples said to each other, “while he was talking to us on the road, and when he explained the scriptures to us!”

³³ Then they immediately got up and returned to Jerusalem, where they found the Eleven and their companions all together,

³⁴ who told them that the Master had really risen, and had appeared to Simon.

³⁵ So they also related what had happened during their walk, and how they had recognised Jesus at the breaking of the bread.

³⁶ While they were still talking about these things, Jesus himself stood amongst them.

³⁷ In their terror and alarm they thought they saw a ghost,

³⁸ but Jesus said to them, “Why are you so startled? And why do doubts arise in your minds?

³⁹ Look at my hands and my feet, and you will know that it is I. Feel me, and look at me, for a ghost has not flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”

⁴¹ While they were still unable to believe it all, overcome with joy, and were wondering if it were true, Jesus said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”

³⁰ When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the matzah ·unleavened bread· and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave to them.

³¹ Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished out of their sight.

³² They said to one another, “Did not our hearts burn within us, while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?”

³³ They rose up that very hour, teshuvah ·completely returned· to Jerusalem City of peace, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,

³⁴ saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simeon Hearing!”

³⁵ They related the things that happened along the way, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the matzah ·unleavened bread·.

³⁶ As they said these things, Yeshua Salvation himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be to you; Ena Na I AM (the Living God), do not be afraid.”

³⁷ But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

³⁸ He said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?

³⁹ See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”

⁴⁰ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ While they still didn’t believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

⁴⁴ He said to them, “This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the Torah ·Teaching· of Moses Drawn out, the Prophets, and the Psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled.”

⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures.

⁴⁶ He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah Anointed one to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

⁴⁷ and in his name teshuvah ·complete repentance· and remission of sins should be preached to all the nations, starting with Jerusalem City of peace.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ Behold, I send out the promise of 'Avi ·my Father· on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem City of peace until you are clothed with power from on high.”

⁵⁰ He led them out as far as Bethany House of affliction, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

⁵¹ While he blessed them, he withdrew from them, and was carried up into heaven.

²⁷ Then Jesus told them all the words in God’s book that tell about him. He made it very clear to them. He started with the words that Moses wrote, and he also told them the words that God’s other men wrote.

²⁸ They kept walking along as Jesus talked to them, and they came to Emmaus, the place those 2 men were going to stay. Jesus was starting to keep going on that road,

²⁹ but those 2 said, “Hey, you can’t keep going to another place. It’s too late. The sun is going down. Please stay here with us tonight.” So he went with them to their house.

³⁰ The 3 of them sat down at the table to have a feed, and Jesus picked up some bread and said thank you to God for it, and he broke it into bits and gave it to them.

³¹ Then suddenly God stopped blocking their eyes so they could see properly, and they saw that it was Jesus talking to them. Then, as soon as they knew who he was, they couldn’t see him any more. He was gone.

³² They said to each other, “Wow. That’s why we felt really good and excited when he talked to us on the road, and he made God’s book really clear for us.”

³³ Then they got up straight away, and they went back to Jerusalem. They went to see the 11 close followers of Jesus. There were other followers of Jesus at that place, too.

³⁴ They were all talking together and saying, “Yes, Jesus really is alive again. He showed himself to Simon.”

³⁵ Then the 2 men from Emmaus told the others their story. They told them what happened on the road, and that they suddenly saw it was Jesus while he was breaking the bread.

³⁶ While they were still telling their story, suddenly Jesus was standing right there in the middle of the group. He said to them, “Hello. I hope you feel good and quiet inside yourselves.”

³⁷ They were all shocked and frightened. They thought they were looking at a spirit.

³⁸ But Jesus said to them, “Why are you frightened? Why do you think, ‘This can’t be Jesus’? Look, it is me.

³⁹ Look at my hands and my feet. See the holes made by the nails. Touch me, to make sure I’m not a spirit. Spirits haven’t got bodies with bones in them, like I have.”

⁴⁰ After he said that, he showed them his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ They were so shocked they could hardly believe it really was Jesus, but they were really happy too. Then Jesus asked them, “Have you got anything here for me to eat?”

⁴² So they gave him a piece of cooked fish.

⁴³ He got it and ate it there in front of them.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “Remember the words I told you while I was still with you. I said that everything about me in God’s book will happen to me. You can read it in the words that Moses wrote, and in the words God’s other men wrote, and in the songs that are in God’s book.”

⁴⁵ Then he helped them to understand the things that are in God’s book, like he opened their brains, so they could think properly.

⁴⁶ And he said to them, “God’s book says this. The special man God will send will get a lot of trouble, and he will die, and then 3 days later he will come back to life again. That message, in God’s book, is about me.

⁴⁷ And it says you have to tell everyone about me. Tell them they have to turn away from the bad things they do and turn to God, so that he will say they are not guilty. You have to start telling people that message here in Jerusalem, and then go on to other countries, till you tell it to the people in every country.

⁴⁸ You see, you mob saw everything that happened, and you heard what I taught people, so now you have to tell it to everybody.

⁴⁹ Listen. My Father promised to give you his Holy Spirit from heaven, so wait here in this city till I send him to you. Then you will have God’s power.”

⁵⁰ Then Jesus took his followers to a town called Bethany. When they got there, he lifted up his hands and asked God to be good to them, and to make them strong.

⁵¹ While he was still talking, God lifted him up and took him away from them, up into heaven.

²⁷ And he began at Moses and at all the prophetes and interpreted vnto them in all scriptures which were wrytten of him.

²⁸ And they drue neye vnto the toune wich they went to. And he made as though he wolde have gone further.

²⁹ But they constrayned him sayinge: abyde with vs for it draweth towardes nyght and the daye is farre passed. And he went in to tary with them.

³⁰ And it came to passe as he sate at meate with them he toke breed blessed it brake and gave to them.

³¹ And their eyes were openned and they knewe him: and he vnnisshed out of their syght.

³² And they sayde betwene them selves: dyd not oure hertes burne with in vs whyll he talked with vs by the waye and as he opened to vs the scriptures?

³³ And they roose vp the same houre and returned agayne to Ierusalem and founde the eleven gadered to geder and them that were with them

³⁴ which sayde: the Lorde is rysen in dede and hath apered to Simon.

³⁵ And they tolde what thinges was done in the waye and how they knewe him in breakynge of breed.

³⁶ As they thus spake Iesus him selfe stode in the myddes of them and sayde vnto them: peace be with you.

³⁷ And they were abasshed and afrayde supposinge that they had sene a sprete

³⁸ And he sayde vnto them: Why are ye troubled and why do thoughtes aryse in youre hertes?

³⁹ Beholde my hondes and my fete that it is even my selfe. Handle me and se: for spretes have not flesshe and bones as ye se me have.

⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken he shewed them his hondes and his fete.

⁴¹ And whyll they yet beleved not for ioye and wondred he sayde vnto the: Have ye here eny meate?

⁴² And they gave him a pece of a broyled fisshe and of an hony combe.

⁴³ And he toke it and ate it before them.

⁴⁴ And he sayde vnto them. These are the wordes which I spake vnto you whyll I was yet with you: that all must be fulfilled which were written of me in the lawe of Moses and in the Prophetes and in the Psalmes.

⁴⁵ Then openned he their wyttes that they myght vnderstond the scriptures

⁴⁶ and sayde vnto them. Thus is it written and thus it behoved Christ to suffre and to ryse agayne from deeth the thyrde daye

⁴⁷ and that repentaunce and remission of synnes shuld be preached in his name amonge all nacions and must beginne at Ierusalem.

⁴⁸ And ye are witnesses of these thinges.

⁴⁹ And beholde I will sende the promes of my father apon you. But tary ye in the cite of Ierusalem vntyll ye be endewed with power from an hye.

⁵⁰ And he ledde the out into Bethany and lyfte vp his hondes and blest them.

⁵¹ And it cam to passe as he blessed the he departed from the and was caryed vp in to heven.

²⁷ Then beginning from Moses and through all the prophets, Jesus interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.

²⁸ As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as though he were going further.

²⁹ But they compelled him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is almost over.” So Jesus went in to stay with them.

³⁰ It happened that, when he had sat down with them to eat, he took the bread, blessed it, and breaking it, he gave it to them.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanished out of their sight.

³² They said one to another, “Was not our heart burning within us, while he spoke to us on the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?”

³³ They rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem. They found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,

³⁴ saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon.”

³⁵ So they told the things that happened on the way, and how Jesus was shown to them in the breaking of the bread.

³⁶ As they spoke these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace be to you.”

³⁷ But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they saw a spirit.

³⁸ Jesus said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do questions arise in your heart?

³⁹ See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see me having.”

⁴⁰ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

⁴¹ They still could not believe it because of joy, and they were amazed. Jesus said to them, “Do you have anything to eat?”

⁴² They gave him a piece of a broiled fish,

⁴³ and he took it and ate it before them.

⁴⁴ He said to them, “When I was with you, I told you that all that was written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the scriptures.

⁴⁶ He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead on the third day.

⁴⁷ Repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ See, I am sending you what my Father promised. But remain in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

⁵⁰ And he led them forth into Bethany, and when his hands were lifted up, he blessed them.

⁵¹ And it was done, the while he blessed them or while he blessed them, he departed from them, and was borne into heaven.

³³ And they rose up in the same hour, and went again into Jerusalem or (and) went again to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, (And they rose up at once, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,)

³⁴ saying, That the Lord is risen verily, and appeared to Simon. (and they were saying, Truly the Lord hath risen, or It is true that the Lord hath risen, and hath appeared to Simon.)

³⁵ And they told what things were done in the way (or And then they told them what had happened on the way), and how they knew him in (the) breaking of (the) bread.

³⁶ And while they spake these things, Jesus stood in the middle of them, and said to them, Peace (be) to you; I am (here), do not ye dread. (And while they spoke of these things, suddenly Jesus stood in their midst, and said to them, Peace be to you; I am here, do not fear, or do not be afraid.)

³⁷ But they were afraid and aghast, and guessed them(selves) to see a spirit.

³⁸ And he said to them, What be ye troubled (or Why be ye troubled), and thoughts come up into your hearts?

³⁹ See ye my hands and my feet, for I myself am (or for I am here). Feel ye, and see ye; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see that I have.

⁴⁰ And when he had said this thing, he showed (his) hands and feet to them.

⁴⁸ And ye be (the) witnesses of these things.

³² And thei seiden togidir, Whether oure herte was not brennynge in vs, while he spak in the weie, and openyde to vs scripturis?

³³ And thei risen vp in the same our, and wenten ayen in to Jerusalem, and founden the enleuene gaderid togidir, and hem that weren with hem,

³⁴ seiynge, That the Lord is risun verrili, and apperide to Symount.

³⁵ And thei tolden what thingis weren don in the weie, and hou thei knewen hym in brekyng of breed.

³⁶ And the while thei spaken these thingis, Jhesus stood in the myddil of hem, and seide to hem, Pees to you; Y am, nyle ye drede.

³⁷ But thei weren affraied and agast, and gessiden hem to se a spirit.

³⁸ And he seide to hem, What ben ye troblid, and thouytis comen vp in to youre hertis?

³⁹ Se ye my hoondis and my feet, for Y my silf am. Fele ye, and se ye; for a spirit hath not fleisch and boonys, as ye seen that Y haue.

⁴⁰ And whanne he hadde seid this thing, he schewide hoondis and feet to hem.

⁴¹ And yit while thei bileueden not, and wondriden for ioye, he seide, Han ye here ony thing that schal be etun?

⁴² And thei proferden hym a part of a fisch rostid, and an hony combe.

⁴³ And whanne he hadde etun bifore hem, he took that that lefte, and yaf to hem;

⁴⁴ and seide `to hem, These ben the wordis that Y spak to you, whanne Y was yit with you; for it is nede that alle thingis ben fulfillid, that ben writun in the lawe of Moises, and in prophetis, and in salmes, of me.

⁴⁵ Thanne he openyde to hem wit, that thei schulden vnderstonde scripturis.

⁴⁶ And he seide to hem, For thus it is writun, and thus it bihofte Crist to suffre, and ryse ayen fro deeth in the thridde dai;

⁴⁷ and penaunce and remyssioun of synnes to be prechid in his name `in to alle folkis, bigynnynge at Jerusalem.

⁴⁸ And ye ben witnessis of these thingis.

⁴⁹ And Y schal sende the biheest of my fadir in to you; but sitte ye in the citee, til that ye be clothid with vertu from an hiy.

⁵⁰ And he ledde hem forth in to Betanye, and whanne his hondis weren lift vp, he blesside hem.

⁵¹ And it was don, the while he blesside hem, he departide fro hem, and was borun in to heuene.

²⁷ and having begun from Moses, and from all the prophets, he was expounding to them in all the Writings the things about himself.

²⁸ And they came nigh to the village whither they were going, and he made an appearance of going on further,

²⁹ and they constrained him, saying, 'Remain with us, for it is toward evening,' and the day did decline, and he went in to remain with them.

³⁰ And it came to pass, in his reclining (at meat) with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken, he was giving to them,

³¹ and their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became unseen by them.

³² And they said one to another, 'Was not our heart burning within us, as he was speaking to us in the way, and as he was opening up to us the Writings?'

³³ And they, having risen up the same hour, turned back to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven, and those with them,

³⁴ saying — 'The Lord was raised indeed, and was seen by Simon;'

³⁵ and they were telling the things in the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread,

³⁶ and as they are speaking these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith to them, 'Peace — to you;'

³⁷ and being amazed, and becoming affrighted, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit.

³⁸ And he said to them, 'Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do reasonings come up in your hearts?

³⁹ see my hands and my feet, that I am he; handle me and see, because a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me having.'

⁴⁰ And having said this, he shewed to them the hands and the feet,

⁴¹ and while they are not believing from the joy, and wondering, he said to them, 'Have ye anything here to eat?'

⁴² and they gave to him part of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb,

⁴³ and having taken, he did eat before them,

⁴⁴ and he said to them, 'These are the words that I spake unto you, being yet with you, that it behoveth to be fulfilled all the things that are written in the Law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms, about me.'

⁴⁵ Then opened he up their understanding to understand the Writings,

⁴⁶ and he said to them — 'Thus it hath been written, and thus it was behoving the Christ to suffer, and to rise out of the dead the third day,

⁴⁷ and reformation and remission of sins to be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem:

⁴⁸ and ye — ye are witnesses of these things.

⁴⁹ 'And, lo, I do send the promise of my Father upon you, but ye — abide ye in the city of Jerusalem till ye be clothed with power from on high.'

⁵⁰ And he led them forth without — unto Bethany, and having lifted up his hands he did bless them,

⁵¹ and it came to pass, in his blessing them, he was parted from them, and was borne up to the heaven;
