Help us?

Luke 24:18-53 in American Standard Version (1901)

18 And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said unto him, Dost thou alone sojourn in Jerusalem and not know the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
21 But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.
22 Moreover certain women of our company amazed us, having been early at the tomb;
23 and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them that were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 And he said unto them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further.
29 And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us; for it is toward evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in to abide with them.
30 And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they rehearsed the things that happened in the way, and how he was known of them in the breaking of the bread.
36 And as they spake these things, he himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they beheld a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do questionings arise in your heart?
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye behold me having.
40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here anything to eat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish.
43 And he took it, and ate before them.
44 And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures;
46 and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day;
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 Ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high.
50 And he led them out until they were over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53 and were continually in the temple, blessing God.

Luke 24:18-53 in Translation for Translators

18 One of them, whose name was Cleopas, said, “◄You (sg) must be the only person who is visiting Jerusalem for the Passover festival who does not know the events that have happened there in recent days!/Are you the only person who is visiting Jerusalem for the Passover festival who does not know the events that have happened there in recent days?► RHQ”
19 He said to them, “What events?” They replied, “ The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth, who was a prophet. Many people saw him perform great miracles, and God enabled him to teach wonderful messages!
20 But our chief priests and leaders handed him over to the Roman authorities. The authorities sentenced him to die, and they killed him by nailing him to a cross.
21 We (exc) were hoping that he was the one who would free us Israelites from our enemies But this does not seem possible now, because three days have already passed since that happened.
22 On the other hand, some women from our group amazed us. Early this morning they went to the tomb,
23 but Jesus' body was not there! They came back and said that they had seen some angels in a vision. The angels said that he was alive!
24 Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb. They saw that things were exactly as the women had reported. But they did not see Jesus.”
25 He said to them, “ You two foolish men! You are so slow to believe all that the prophets have written about the Messiah!
26 ◄ You should certainly have known that it was necessary that the Messiah should suffer all those things and die, and then enter his glorious home in heaven!/Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer all those things and die, and then enter his glorious home in heaven?► RHQ”
27 Then he explained to them all the things that the prophets had written in the Scriptures about himself. He started with what Moses MTY wrote and then explained to them what all the other prophets wrote.
28 They came near to the village to which the two men were going. Jesus indicated that he would go further,
29 but they urged him to not do that. They said, “Stay with us tonight, because it is late in the afternoon and it will soon be dark.” So he went in the house to stay with them.
30 When they sat down to eat, he took some bread and asked God to bless it. He broke it and gave some pieces to them.
31 And just then God enabled them to recognize MTY him. But immediately he disappeared!
32 The two men said to each other, “ While we were walking along the road and he talked with us and enabled us (inc) to understand the Scriptures, we became so excited that it was as though MET a fire was burning within us RHQ! We should not stay here; we should go tell the others what happened!”
33 So they left immediately and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven apostles and others who had gathered together with them
34 who told those two men, “It is true that the Lord has become alive again, and he has appeared to Peter!”
35 Then those two men told the others what had happened as they were walking along the road. They also told them how they both recognized Jesus as he broke some bread for them.
36 As they were saying that, Jesus himself suddenly appeared among them. He said to them, “ May God give you inner peace!”
37 They were startled and afraid, because they thought that they were seeing a ghost!
38 He said to them, “◄You should not be alarmed!/Why are you alarmed?► RHQ And ◄you should not be doubting that I am alive/Jesus!/why are you doubting that I am alive/Jesus?► RHQ
39 Look at the wounds in my hands and my feet! You can touch me and see my body. Then you can see that it is really I myself. You can tell that I am really alive because ghosts do not have bodies, as you see that I have!”
40 After he said that, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his feet.
41 They were joyful and amazed, but they still did not believe that he was really alive (OR, that Jesus was the one that they were seeing). So he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42 So they gave him a piece of broiled fish.
43 While they were watching, he took it and ate it.
44 Then he said to them, “ I will repeat what I told you while I was still with you: Everything that was written about me by Moses and the other prophets MTY and in the Psalms must be fulfilled!”
45 Then he enabled them to understand the things that had been written about him in the Scriptures.
46 He said to them, “This is what they wrote: That the Messiah would suffer and die, but on the third day after that he would become alive again.
47 They also wrote that the message must be preached { that his disciples must preach the message} everywhere that people must turn from their sinful ways for God to forgive their sins. They wrote that his followers should preach that message, claiming his authority MTY. They wrote that they should start preaching it in Jerusalem, and then go and preach it to all ethnic groups.
48 You apostles must tell people that you know that those things that happened to me are true.
49 And I want you to know that I will send the Holy Spirit MTY to you, as my Father promised that he would do. But you must stay in this city until God fills you with the power of his Spirit.”
50 Then Jesus led them outside the city until they came near Bethany village. There he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51 As he was doing that, he left them and went up to heaven.
52 They worshipped him. And then they returned to Jerusalem very joyfully.
53 Each day SYN they went into the Temple courtyard, and spent a lot of time praising God.

29 They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.” He went in to stay with them.
30 When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave it to them.
31 Their eyes were opened and they recognised him; then he vanished out of their sight.
32 They said to one another, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 They rose up that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,
34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”
35 They related the things that happened along the way, and how he was recognised by them in the breaking of the bread.
36 As they said these things, Jesus himself stood amongst them, and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
37 But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit doesn’t have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 While they still didn’t believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42 They gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.
43 He took them, and ate in front of them.
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms concerning me must be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures.
46 He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
49 Behold, I send out the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.”
50 He led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51 While he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.
52 They worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
53 and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Luke 24:18-53 in Bible in Basic English

18 Then stopping, and looking sadly at him, one of them, named Cleopas, said to him, Are you the only man living in Jerusalem who has not had news of the things which have taken place there at this time?
19 And he said to them, What things? And they said, The things to do with Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, great in his acts and his words, before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers gave him up to be put to death on the cross.
21 But we were hoping that he would be the Saviour of Israel. In addition to all this he has now let three days go by from the time when these things took place;
22 And certain women among us gave us cause for wonder, for they went early to the place where his body had been put,
23 And it was not there; then they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was living.
24 And some of those who were with us went to the place, and saw that it was as the women had said, but him they did not see.
25 And he said, O foolish men! how slow you are to give belief to what the prophets have said.
26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to go through these things, and to come into his glory?
27 And he made clear to them all the things in the Writings, from Moses and from all the prophets, which had to do with himself.
28 And they came near the town to which they were going, and he seemed as if he was going on;
29 But they kept him back, saying, Do not go, for evening is near, the day is almost gone. And he went in with them.
30 And when he was seated with them at table, he took the bread, and said words of blessing and, making division of it, he gave it to them.
31 And then their eyes were open, and they had knowledge of him, but he went from their view.
32 And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning in us while he was talking to us on the way, making clear to us the holy Writings?
33 And that very hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others had come together.
34 And they said to them, The Lord has truly come back to life again, and Simon has seen him.
35 And they gave an account of the things which had taken place on the way, and how, when he gave them bread, they had knowledge of him.
36 And while they were saying these things, he himself was among them, and said to them, Peace be with you!
37 But they were full of fear, being of the opinion that they were seeing a spirit.
38 And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why are your hearts full of doubt?
39 See; my hands and my feet: it is I myself; put your hands on me and make certain; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.
40 And when he had said this, he let them see his hands and his feet.
41 And because, for joy and wonder, they were still in doubt, he said to them, Have you any food here?
42 And they gave him a bit of cooked fish.
43 And before their eyes he took a meal.
44 And he said to them, These are the words which I said to you when I was still with you, how it was necessary for all the things which are in the writings of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms about me, to be put into effect.
45 Then he made the holy Writings clear to their minds.
46 And he said to them, So it is in the Writings that the Christ would undergo death, and come back to life again on the third day;
47 And that teaching about a change of heart and forgiveness of sins is to be given to Jerusalem first and to all nations in his name.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
49 And now I will send to you what my father has undertaken to give you, but do not go from the town, till the power from heaven comes to you.
50 And he took them out till they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he gave them a blessing.
51 And while he was doing so, he went from them and was taken up into heaven.
52 And they gave him worship and went back to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 And they were in the Temple at all times, giving praise to God.

18 And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?
19 And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

22 And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,
23 and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.
24 And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.
25 And he said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?
27 And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he made as though he would go farther.
29 And they constrained him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is declining. And he entered in to stay with them.

36 And as they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst, and says to them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit.
38 And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why are thoughts rising in your hearts?
39 behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having.
40 And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat?
42 And they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb;
43 and he took it and ate before them.
44 And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the law of Moses and prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.
45 Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,
46 and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but do ye remain in the city till ye be clothed with power from on high.
50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.
51 And it came to pass as he was blessing them, he was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.
52 And they, having done him homage, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.

Luke 24:18-53 in Free Bible Version

18 One of them, called Cleopas, replied, “Are you just visiting Jerusalem? You must be the only person who doesn't know the things that have happened in the past few days.”
19 “What things?” Jesus asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet who spoke powerfully and performed great miracles before God and all the people.
20 But our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.
21 We had hoped he was the one who was going to rescue Israel. It's been three days now since all this happened.
22 But then some of the women in our group surprised us.
23 At dawn they went to the tomb and they didn't find his body. They came back saying that they'd seen a vision of angels who told them he's alive.
24 Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women said—but they didn't see him.”
25 Jesus told them, “You're so dull! How slow you are to trust in all that the prophets said!
26 Didn't the Messiah have to suffer before he could enter into his glory?”
27 Then, starting with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them everything that was said in Scripture about himself.
28 As they approached the village they were going to, Jesus made it seem as if he was going farther.
29 But they urged him, saying, “Please come and stay with us. It's getting late—the day is almost over.” So he went to stay with them.
30 When he sat down to eat with them, he took the bread and gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them.
31 Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. Then he disappeared from view.
32 The two disciples said to each other, “Weren't our thoughts on fire when he spoke to us, as he explained the Scriptures to us?”
33 They got up right away and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and those who were with them meeting together,
34 who said, “The Lord has really risen again! He has appeared to Simon.”
35 Then those who had just arrived explained to the other disciples what had happened to them on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus when he broke bread.
36 While they were talking, Jesus himself stood among them, and said, “Peace to you!”
37 They were startled and afraid, thinking they were seeing a ghost.
38 “Why are you frightened? Why are you doubting?” he asked them.
39 “Look at my hands and my feet—you can see it's me. Touch me and you'll be certain, for a spirit doesn't have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40 Having said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41 But they still couldn't believe it because they were so elated and amazed. He asked them, “Do you have anything to eat?”
42 They gave him a piece of cooked fish,
43 and he took it and ate it in front of them.
44 Then Jesus said to them, “This is what I explained to you while I was still with you. Everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, had to be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their minds so they were able to understand the Scriptures.
46 He told them, “It was written like this: the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and in his name
47 repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of all this.
49 Now I'm going to send you what my Father promised—but wait in the city until you receive power from heaven.”
50 Then he led them out until they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.
51 While he was blessing them, he left them, and was taken up to heaven.
52 They worshiped him, and then they returned to Jerusalem full of joy.
53 They spent all their time in the Temple praising God.

44 And he saide vnto them, These are the wordes, which I spake vnto you while I was yet with you, that all must be fulfilled which are written of me in the Lawe of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalmes.

18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is towards evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of a honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Luke 24:18-53 in Plain English Version

18 Then one of them, called Cleopas, said, “I reckon you are the only visitor to Jerusalem that hasn’t heard about the things that happened here in the last few days.”
19 Jesus asked him, “What things?” They said, “The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth. God gave him the power to tell his messages, and to teach people his words, and to do powerful things. All the people reckoned he was great.
20 But our bosses, and the leaders of our ceremonies, they didn’t want him. They grabbed him and gave him to the Roman soldiers, and told them to kill him, so they nailed him to a cross and he died.
21 But, you know, we were hoping he will save us Israel people, but he can’t do that now. And all of that happened 3 days ago.
22 And now, today, some of our women gave us a shock. They went to his grave early this morning, to look for his body,
23 but they couldn’t find it. His body wasn’t in that grave. They came back and told us they saw some of God’s angel messengers, and those angels said that he is alive.
24 And some of our men went to that grave, and they saw that everything was just like the women said. His body was not in the grave.”
25 Then Jesus said to them, “You 2 are a bit stupid. You don’t properly believe the messages that God’s men told us a long time ago.
26 You see, they told us about the special man God was going to send to us. They made it real clear. They said he will get this kind of trouble, and he will die, but then God will show everyone that he is really great.”
27 Then Jesus told them all the words in God’s book that tell about him. He made it very clear to them. He started with the words that Moses wrote, and he also told them the words that God’s other men wrote.
28 They kept walking along as Jesus talked to them, and they came to Emmaus, the place those 2 men were going to stay. Jesus was starting to keep going on that road,
29 but those 2 said, “Hey, you can’t keep going to another place. It’s too late. The sun is going down. Please stay here with us tonight.” So he went with them to their house.
30 The 3 of them sat down at the table to have a feed, and Jesus picked up some bread and said thank you to God for it, and he broke it into bits and gave it to them.
31 Then suddenly God stopped blocking their eyes so they could see properly, and they saw that it was Jesus talking to them. Then, as soon as they knew who he was, they couldn’t see him any more. He was gone.
32 They said to each other, “Wow. That’s why we felt really good and excited when he talked to us on the road, and he made God’s book really clear for us.”
33 Then they got up straight away, and they went back to Jerusalem. They went to see the 11 close followers of Jesus. There were other followers of Jesus at that place, too.
34 They were all talking together and saying, “Yes, Jesus really is alive again. He showed himself to Simon.”
35 Then the 2 men from Emmaus told the others their story. They told them what happened on the road, and that they suddenly saw it was Jesus while he was breaking the bread.
36 While they were still telling their story, suddenly Jesus was standing right there in the middle of the group. He said to them, “Hello. I hope you feel good and quiet inside yourselves.”
37 They were all shocked and frightened. They thought they were looking at a spirit.
38 But Jesus said to them, “Why are you frightened? Why do you think, ‘This can’t be Jesus’? Look, it is me.
39 Look at my hands and my feet. See the holes made by the nails. Touch me, to make sure I’m not a spirit. Spirits haven’t got bodies with bones in them, like I have.”
40 After he said that, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 They were so shocked they could hardly believe it really was Jesus, but they were really happy too. Then Jesus asked them, “Have you got anything here for me to eat?”
42 So they gave him a piece of cooked fish.
43 He got it and ate it there in front of them.
44 Then he said to them, “Remember the words I told you while I was still with you. I said that everything about me in God’s book will happen to me. You can read it in the words that Moses wrote, and in the words God’s other men wrote, and in the songs that are in God’s book.”
45 Then he helped them to understand the things that are in God’s book, like he opened their brains, so they could think properly.
46 And he said to them, “God’s book says this. The special man God will send will get a lot of trouble, and he will die, and then 3 days later he will come back to life again. That message, in God’s book, is about me.
47 And it says you have to tell everyone about me. Tell them they have to turn away from the bad things they do and turn to God, so that he will say they are not guilty. You have to start telling people that message here in Jerusalem, and then go on to other countries, till you tell it to the people in every country.
48 You see, you mob saw everything that happened, and you heard what I taught people, so now you have to tell it to everybody.
49 Listen. My Father promised to give you his Holy Spirit from heaven, so wait here in this city till I send him to you. Then you will have God’s power.”
50 Then Jesus took his followers to a town called Bethany. When they got there, he lifted up his hands and asked God to be good to them, and to make them strong.
51 While he was still talking, God lifted him up and took him away from them, up into heaven.
52 Then his followers showed strong respect for Jesus. They were very happy, and they went back to Jerusalem.
53 Every day they went to God’s ceremony house, and they said, “Thank you God. You are really good.”

Luke 24:18-53 in Unlocked Literal Bible

18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only person in Jerusalem who does not know the things which have happened there these days?”
19 Jesus said to them, “What things?” They answered him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death and crucified him.
21 But we had confidence that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Yes, and what is more, it is now the third day since all these things happened.
22 But also, some women of our company amazed us, having been at the tomb early in the morning.
23 When they did not find his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.
24 Some men who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said. But they did not see him.”
25 Jesus said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?”
27 Then beginning from Moses and through all the prophets, Jesus interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as though he were going further.
29 But they compelled him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is almost over.” So Jesus went in to stay with them.
30 It happened that, when he had sat down with them to eat, he took the bread, blessed it, and breaking it, he gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanished out of their sight.
32 They said one to another, “Was not our heart burning within us, while he spoke to us on the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?”
33 They rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem. They found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,
34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon.”
35 So they told the things that happened on the way, and how Jesus was shown to them in the breaking of the bread.
36 As they spoke these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
37 But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they saw a spirit.
38 Jesus said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do questions arise in your heart?
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see me having.”
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 They still could not believe it because of joy, and they were amazed. Jesus said to them, “Do you have anything to eat?”
42 They gave him a piece of a broiled fish,
43 and he took it and ate it before them.
44 He said to them, “When I was with you, I told you that all that was written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the scriptures.
46 He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead on the third day.
47 Repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
49 See, I am sending you what my Father promised. But remain in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
50 Then Jesus led them out until they were near Bethany. He lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51 It happened that, while he was blessing them, he left them and was carried up into heaven.
52 So they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 They were continually in the temple, blessing God.

18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said to him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God, and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he who would have redeemed Israel: and besides all this, to-day is the third day since these things were done.
22 Yes, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, who were early at the sepulcher.
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them who were with us, went to the sepulcher, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Ought not Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses, and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh to the village whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is towards evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at table with them, he took bread, and blessed it , and broke, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight.

39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said to them, Have ye here any thing for food?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honey-comb.

44 And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

22 But also some women of ours made us afeared, which before day-light were at the grave;

24 And some men of ours went to the grave, and they found so as the women said, but they found not him.
25 And he said to them, A! fools, and slow of heart to believe in all things that the prophets have spoken.
26 Whether it behooved not Christ to suffer these things, and so to enter into his glory?
27 And he began at Moses and at all the prophets, and declared or expounded to them in all scriptures, that were of him.
28 And they came nigh to the castle, whither they went. And he made countenance that he would go further.
29 And they constrained him, and said, Dwell with us, for it draweth to night, and the day is now bowed down. And he entered in with them.
30 And it was done, while he sat at the meat with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and took or gave to them.
31 And the eyes of them were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished from their eyes.
32 And they said together, whether our heart was not burning in us, while he spake to us in the way, and he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up in the same hour, and went again into Jerusalem or to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 saying, that the Lord is risen verily, and appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how they knew him in breaking of bread.
36 And while they spake these things, Jesus stood in the middle of them, and said to them, Peace to you; I am, do not ye dread.
37 But they were afraid and aghast, and guessed them to see a spirit.
38 And he said to them, what be ye troubled, and thoughts come up into your hearts?
39 See ye my hands and my feet, for I myself am. Feel ye, and see you; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see that I have.
40 And when he had said this thing, he showed hands and feet to them.
41 And yet while they believed not, and wondered for joy, he said, Have ye here anything or Have ye any-thing here that shall be eaten?
42 And they proffered or offered to him a part of a fish roasted, and a honeycomb.
43 And when he had eaten before them, he took that that left or the remnants, and gave to them;
44 and he said to them, These be the words that I spake to you, when I was yet with you; for it is need that all things be fulfilled, that be written in the law of Moses, and in prophets, and in psalms, of me.
45 Then he opened to them wit, that they should understand the scriptures.
46 And he said to them, For thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and rise again from death the third day;
47 and penance, and remission of sins to be preached in his name to all folks, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye be witnesses of these things.
49 And I shall send the promise of my Father into you; but sit ye in the city, till ye be clothed with virtue from on high.
50 And he led them forth into Bethany, and when his hands were lifted up, he blessed them.
51 And it was done, the while he blessed them or while he blessed them, he departed from them, and was borne into heaven.
52 And they worshipped, and went again into Jerusalem with great joy,
53 and were evermore in the temple, praising and blessing God.

29 And they constrained him, and said, Dwell with us (or Remain with us), for it draweth to (the) night, and the day is now bowed down. And (so) he entered in with them.
30 And it was done, while he sat at the meat with them (or while he sat down for the meal with them), he took bread, and blessed (it), and brake (it), and (then) took (it) to them or and (then) gave (it) to them.
31 And the eyes of them were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished from their eyes.
32 And they said together, Whether our heart was not burning in us, while he spake to us in the way, and he opened to us the scriptures? (And they said to each other, Were not our hearts burning in us, while he spoke to us on the way, and he opened the Scriptures to us?)
33 And they rose up in the same hour, and went again into Jerusalem or (and) went again to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, (And they rose up at once, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,)
34 saying, That the Lord is risen verily, and appeared to Simon. (and they were saying, Truly the Lord hath risen, or It is true that the Lord hath risen, and hath appeared to Simon.)
35 And they told what things were done in the way (or And then they told them what had happened on the way), and how they knew him in (the) breaking of (the) bread.
36 And while they spake these things, Jesus stood in the middle of them, and said to them, Peace (be) to you; I am (here), do not ye dread. (And while they spoke of these things, suddenly Jesus stood in their midst, and said to them, Peace be to you; I am here, do not fear, or do not be afraid.)
37 But they were afraid and aghast, and guessed them(selves) to see a spirit.
38 And he said to them, What be ye troubled (or Why be ye troubled), and thoughts come up into your hearts?
39 See ye my hands and my feet, for I myself am (or for I am here). Feel ye, and see ye; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see that I have.
40 And when he had said this thing, he showed (his) hands and feet to them.
41 And yet while they believed not, and wondered for joy, he said, Have ye here anything that shall be eaten? or Have ye anything here that shall be eaten?
42 And they proffered to him a part of a fish roasted, and an honeycomb. And they offered to him a part of a fish roasted, and a comb of honey.
43 And when he had eaten before them, he took that that (was) left, and gave (it) to them;
44 and he said to them, These be the words that I spake to you, when I was yet with you; for it is need(ful) that all things be fulfilled, that be written in the law of Moses, and in (the) prophets, and in (the) psalms, of me (or about me).
45 Then he opened to them wit, that they should understand the scriptures. (Then he opened their minds, or their thinking, so that they could understand the Scriptures.)
46 And he said to them, For thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer (or and thus it behooved the Messiah to suffer), and rise again from death the third day or and rise again from (the) dead the third day;
47 and penance, and remission of sins to be preached in his name to all folks, beginning at Jerusalem. (and repentance, and forgiveness of sins to be preached in his name to all the nations and all the peoples, beginning at Jerusalem.)
48 And ye be (the) witnesses of these things.
49 And I shall send the promise of my Father into you; but sit ye in the city, till ye be clothed with virtue from on high, (or but remain in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high).
50 And he led them forth into Bethany, and when his hands were lifted up, he blessed them.
51 And it was done, the while he blessed them or while he blessed them, he departed from them, and was borne (up) into heaven.
52 And they worshipped (him), and went again into Jerusalem with great joy,
53 and were (for)evermore in the temple (or and were always in the Temple), praising and blessing God.

Luke 24:18-53 in Young's Literal Translation

18 And the one, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said unto him, 'Art thou alone such a stranger in Jerusalem, that thou hast not known the things that came to pass in it in these days?'
19 And he said to them, 'What things?' And they said to him, 'The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who became a man — a prophet — powerful in deed and word, before God and all the people,
20 how also the chief priests and our rulers did deliver him up to a judgment of death, and crucified him;
21 and we were hoping that he it is who is about to redeem Israel, and also with all these things, this third day is passing to-day, since these things happened.
22 'And certain women of ours also astonished us, coming early to the tomb,
23 and not having found his body, they came, saying also to have seen an apparition of messengers, who say he is alive,
24 and certain of those with us went away unto the tomb, and found as even the women said, and him they saw not.'
25 And he said unto them, 'O inconsiderate and slow in heart, to believe on all that the prophets spake!
26 Was it not behoving the Christ these things to suffer, and to enter into his glory?'
27 and having begun from Moses, and from all the prophets, he was expounding to them in all the Writings the things about himself.
28 And they came nigh to the village whither they were going, and he made an appearance of going on further,
29 and they constrained him, saying, 'Remain with us, for it is toward evening,' and the day did decline, and he went in to remain with them.
30 And it came to pass, in his reclining (at meat) with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken, he was giving to them,
31 and their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became unseen by them.
32 And they said one to another, 'Was not our heart burning within us, as he was speaking to us in the way, and as he was opening up to us the Writings?'
33 And they, having risen up the same hour, turned back to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the eleven, and those with them,
34 saying — 'The Lord was raised indeed, and was seen by Simon;'
35 and they were telling the things in the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread,
36 and as they are speaking these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith to them, 'Peace — to you;'
37 and being amazed, and becoming affrighted, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit.
38 And he said to them, 'Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do reasonings come up in your hearts?
39 see my hands and my feet, that I am he; handle me and see, because a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me having.'
40 And having said this, he shewed to them the hands and the feet,
41 and while they are not believing from the joy, and wondering, he said to them, 'Have ye anything here to eat?'
42 and they gave to him part of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb,
43 and having taken, he did eat before them,
44 and he said to them, 'These are the words that I spake unto you, being yet with you, that it behoveth to be fulfilled all the things that are written in the Law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms, about me.'
45 Then opened he up their understanding to understand the Writings,
46 and he said to them — 'Thus it hath been written, and thus it was behoving the Christ to suffer, and to rise out of the dead the third day,
47 and reformation and remission of sins to be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem:
48 and ye — ye are witnesses of these things.
49 'And, lo, I do send the promise of my Father upon you, but ye — abide ye in the city of Jerusalem till ye be clothed with power from on high.'
50 And he led them forth without — unto Bethany, and having lifted up his hands he did bless them,
51 and it came to pass, in his blessing them, he was parted from them, and was borne up to the heaven;
52 and they, having bowed before him, did turn back to Jerusalem with great joy,
53 and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
