¹³ And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was threescore furlongs from Jerusalem.

¹⁴ And they communed with each other of all these things which had happened.

¹⁵ And it came to pass, while they communed and questioned together, that Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

¹⁶ But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

¹⁷ And he said unto them, What communications are these that ye have one with another, as ye walk? And they stood still, looking sad.

¹⁸ And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said unto him, Dost thou alone sojourn in Jerusalem and not know the things which are come to pass there in these days?

¹⁹ And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

²¹ But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.

²² Moreover certain women of our company amazed us, having been early at the tomb;

²³ and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

²⁴ And certain of them that were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

²⁵ And he said unto them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?

²⁰ And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

²¹ But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

²² Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

²³ And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

²⁴ And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

²⁶ Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

¹³ That same day two of Jesus' disciples were walking to a village named Emmaus. It was about ◄seven miles/eleven kilometers► from Jerusalem.

¹⁴ They were talking with each other about all the things that had happened to Jesus.

¹⁵ While they were discussing those things, Jesus himself approached them and started walking with them.

¹⁶ But they were prevented { something prevented them} from recognizing MTY him.

¹⁷ Jesus said to them, “What have you two been talking about while you were walking?” They stopped, and their faces looked very sad.

¹⁸ One of them, whose name was Cleopas, said, “◄You (sg) must be the only person who is visiting Jerusalem for the Passover festival who does not know the events that have happened there in recent days!/Are you the only person who is visiting Jerusalem for the Passover festival who does not know the events that have happened there in recent days?► RHQ”

¹⁹ He said to them, “What events?” They replied, “ The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth, who was a prophet. Many people saw him perform great miracles, and God enabled him to teach wonderful messages!

²⁰ But our chief priests and leaders handed him over to the Roman authorities. The authorities sentenced him to die, and they killed him by nailing him to a cross.

²¹ We (exc) were hoping that he was the one who would free us Israelites from our enemies But this does not seem possible now, because three days have already passed since that happened.

²² On the other hand, some women from our group amazed us. Early this morning they went to the tomb,

²³ but Jesus' body was not there! They came back and said that they had seen some angels in a vision. The angels said that he was alive!

²⁴ Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb. They saw that things were exactly as the women had reported. But they did not see Jesus.”

²⁵ He said to them, “ You two foolish men! You are so slow to believe all that the prophets have written about the Messiah!

²⁶ ◄ You should certainly have known that it was necessary that the Messiah should suffer all those things and die, and then enter his glorious home in heaven!/Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer all those things and die, and then enter his glorious home in heaven?► RHQ”

¹⁷ And he said to them, What are you talking about together while you go?

¹⁸ Then stopping, and looking sadly at him, one of them, named Cleopas, said to him, Are you the only man living in Jerusalem who has not had news of the things which have taken place there at this time?

¹⁹ And he said to them, What things? And they said, The things to do with Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, great in his acts and his words, before God and all the people:

²⁰ And how the chief priests and our rulers gave him up to be put to death on the cross.

²¹ But we were hoping that he would be the Saviour of Israel. In addition to all this he has now let three days go by from the time when these things took place;

²² And certain women among us gave us cause for wonder, for they went early to the place where his body had been put,

²³ And it was not there; then they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was living.

²⁴ And some of those who were with us went to the place, and saw that it was as the women had said, but him they did not see.

²⁵ And he said, O foolish men! how slow you are to give belief to what the prophets have said.

²⁶ Was it not necessary for the Christ to go through these things, and to come into his glory?

¹³ And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus;

¹⁴ and they conversed with one another about all these things which had taken place.

¹⁵ And it came to pass as they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus himself drawing nigh, went with them;

¹⁶ but their eyes were holden so as not to know him.

¹⁷ And he said to them, What discourses are these which pass between you as ye walk, and are downcast?

¹⁸ And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?

¹⁹ And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to the judgment of death and crucified him.

²¹ But we had hoped that he was the one who is about to redeem Israel. But then, besides all these things, it is now, to-day, the third day since these things took place.

²² And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,

²³ and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.

²⁴ And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.

²⁵ And he said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?

¹⁹ To whom he said: What things? And they said: Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;

²⁰ And how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

²¹ But we hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel: and now besides all this, today is the third day since these things were done.

²² Yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us, who before it was light, were at the sepulchre,

²³ And not finding his body, came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive.

²⁴ And some of our people went to the sepulchre, and found it so as the women had said, but him they found not.

²⁵ Then he said to them: O foolish, and slow of heart to believe in all things which the prophets have spoken.

²⁶ Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory?

¹⁴ And they were conversing with one another about all these things which had happened.

¹⁵ So it was, as they were conversing and discussing, that Jesus Himself drew near and started to travel with them.

¹⁶ But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not recognize Him.

¹⁷ And He said to them, “What are these words which you are exchanging with one another as you walk, and you have a gloomy look?”

¹⁸ Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and do not know what has happened in it in these days?”

¹⁹ And He said to them, “What things?” So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a man who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified Him.

²¹ But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened.

²² Moreover certain women of our group astonished us, after they arrived early at the tomb.

²³ And not finding His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.

²¹ And we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel! Further, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened.

²² Moreover certain women of our group astonished us—arriving early at the tomb,

²³ and not finding his body, they came saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.

²⁴ And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but him they did not see.”

²⁵ Then He said to them: “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the Prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Was it really not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into His glory?”

¹³ The same day two disciples were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.

¹⁴ They were talking about all that had happened.

¹⁵ As they discussed and debated, Jesus came up and fell into step with them.

¹⁶ But they were kept from recognizing him.

¹⁷ “What are you discussing as you walk along?” he asked them. They stopped, their faces sad.

¹⁸ One of them, called Cleopas, replied, “Are you just visiting Jerusalem? You must be the only person who doesn't know the things that have happened in the past few days.”

¹⁹ “What things?” Jesus asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet who spoke powerfully and performed great miracles before God and all the people.

²⁰ But our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.

²¹ We had hoped he was the one who was going to rescue Israel. It's been three days now since all this happened.

²² But then some of the women in our group surprised us.

²³ At dawn they went to the tomb and they didn't find his body. They came back saying that they'd seen a vision of angels who told them he's alive.

²⁴ Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women said—but they didn't see him.”

²⁵ Jesus told them, “You're so dull! How slow you are to trust in all that the prophets said!

²⁶ Didn't the Messiah have to suffer before he could enter into his glory?”

¹³ And beholde, two of them went that same day to a towne which was from Hierusalem about threescore furlongs, called Emmaus.

¹⁴ And they talked together of al these things that were done.

¹⁵ And it came to passe, as they communed together, and reasoned, that Iesus himselfe drewe neere, and went with them.

¹⁶ But their eyes were holden, that they could not know him.

¹⁷ And he sayd vnto them, What maner of communications are these that ye haue one to another as ye walke and are sad?

¹⁸ And the one (named Cleopas) answered, and sayd vnto him, Art thou onely a stranger in Hierusalem, and hast not knowen the things which are come to passe therein in these dayes?

¹⁹ And he said vnto them, What things? And they sayd vnto him, Of Iesus of Nazareth, which was a Prophet, mightie in deede and in word before God, and all people,

²⁰ And howe the hie Priests, and our rulers deliuered him to be condemned to death, and haue crucified him.

²¹ But we trusted that it had bene he that should haue deliuered Israel, and as touching all these things, to day is ye third day, that they were done.

²² Yea, and certaine women among vs made vs astonied, which came early vnto the sepulchre.

²³ And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seene a vision of Angels, which sayd, that he was aliue.

²⁴ Therefore certaine of them which were with vs, went to the sepulchre, and found it euen so as the women had sayd, but him they saw not.

²⁵ Then he sayd vnto them, O fooles and slowe of heart to beleeue all that the Prophets haue spoken!

²⁶ Ought not Christ to haue suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

¹⁷ And he said to them, What discourse is this which ye have one with another, as ye are walking? And they stood sad.

¹⁸ And one, whose name was Cleopas, answering said to him, Art thou the only sojourner in Jerusalem that doth not know the things which have come to pass there in these days?

¹⁹ And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things relating to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in word and deed before God and all the people;

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

²¹ But we are hoping that it is he who is to redeem Israel; moreover, besides all this, it is the third day since these things were done.

²² And furthermore certain women of our company have amazed us; for going early to the tomb,

²³ they did not find his body, and came, saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

²⁴ And some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it to be as the women had said; but him they saw not.

²⁵ And he said to them, O dull of apprehension, and slow of heart to believe all that the Prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things, and enter into his glory?

¹³ It happened that very day that two of the disciples were going to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem,

¹⁴ talking together, as they went, about all that had just taken place.

¹⁵ While they were talking about these things and discussing them, Jesus himself came up and went on their way with them;

¹⁶ but their eyes were blinded so that they could not recognise him.

¹⁷ “What is this that you are saying to each other as you walk along?” Jesus asked. They stopped, with sad looks on their faces,

¹⁸ and then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, said to Jesus, “Are you staying by yourself at Jerusalem, that you have not heard of the things that have happened there within the last few days?”

¹⁹ “What things do you mean?” asked Jesus. “Why, about Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered, “who, in the eyes of God and all the people, was a prophet, whose power was felt in both his words and actions;

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our leading men gave him up to be sentenced to death, and afterward crucified him.

²¹ But we were hoping that he was the Destined Deliverer of Israel; yes, and besides all this, it is now three days since these things occurred.

²² And what is more, some of the women amongst us have greatly astonished us. They went to the tomb at daybreak

²³ And, not finding the body of Jesus there, came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels who told them that he was alive.

²⁴ So some of our number went to the tomb and found everything just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

²⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “Foolish men, slow to accept all that the prophets have said!

²⁶ Was not the Christ bound to undergo this suffering before entering into his glory?”

¹³ It happened that very day that two of the disciples were going to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem,

¹⁴ talking together, as they went, about all that had just taken place.

¹⁵ While they were talking about these things and discussing them, Jesus himself came up and went on their way with them;

¹⁶ but their eyes were blinded so that they could not recognize him.

¹⁷ “What is this that you are saying to each other as you walk along?” Jesus asked. They stopped, with sad looks on their faces,

¹⁸ and then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, said to Jesus, “Are you staying by yourself at Jerusalem, that you have not heard of the things that have happened there within the last few days?”

¹⁹ “What things do you mean?” asked Jesus. “Why, about Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered, “who, in the eyes of God and all the people, was a prophet, whose power was felt in both his words and actions;

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our leading men gave him up to be sentenced to death, and afterward crucified him.

²¹ But we were hoping that he was the Destined Deliverer of Israel; yes, and besides all this, it is now three days since these things occurred.

²² And what is more, some of the women among us have greatly astonished us. They went to the tomb at daybreak

²³ And, not finding the body of Jesus there, came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels who told them that he was alive.

²⁴ So some of our number went to the tomb and found everything just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

²⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “Foolish men, slow to accept all that the prophets have said!

²⁶ Was not the Christ bound to undergo this suffering before entering into his glory?”

¹³ Behold, two of them were going that same day (Nissan 17) to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia 7.93 mi; 11.1 km from Jerusalem City of peace.

¹⁴ They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.

¹⁵ While they talked and questioned together, Yeshua Salvation himself came near, and went with them.

¹⁶ But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

¹⁷ He said to them, “What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?”

¹⁸ One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem City of peace who does not know the things which have happened there in these days?”

¹⁹ He said to them, “What things?” They said to him, “The things concerning Yeshua Salvation, the Nazarene person from Branch, Separated one, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and nailed him to the stake.

²¹ But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel God prevails. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

²² Also, certain women of our company amazed us, having arrived early at the tomb;

²³ and when they didn’t find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

²⁴ Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just like the women had said, but they didn’t see him.”

²⁵ He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Didn’t the Messiah Anointed one have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?”

¹³ Later, on that same day, 2 of Jesus’s followers walked from Jerusalem to a community called Emmaus. That was about 11 kilometers.

¹⁴ As they walked along the road they talked about everything that happened.

¹⁵ Then suddenly Jesus came and joined up with them, but they didn’t know it was Jesus. God blocked their eyes a bit, so they couldn’t see who he was. Jesus walked along with them and listened to what they said to each other,

¹⁷ then he asked them, “What is this thing you are talking about so much, as you walk along the road?” When they heard him say that they both stopped, and they looked very sad.

¹⁸ Then one of them, called Cleopas, said, “I reckon you are the only visitor to Jerusalem that hasn’t heard about the things that happened here in the last few days.”

¹⁹ Jesus asked him, “What things?” They said, “The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth. God gave him the power to tell his messages, and to teach people his words, and to do powerful things. All the people reckoned he was great.

²⁰ But our bosses, and the leaders of our ceremonies, they didn’t want him. They grabbed him and gave him to the Roman soldiers, and told them to kill him, so they nailed him to a cross and he died.

²¹ But, you know, we were hoping he will save us Israel people, but he can’t do that now. And all of that happened 3 days ago.

²² And now, today, some of our women gave us a shock. They went to his grave early this morning, to look for his body,

²³ but they couldn’t find it. His body wasn’t in that grave. They came back and told us they saw some of God’s angel messengers, and those angels said that he is alive.

²⁴ And some of our men went to that grave, and they saw that everything was just like the women said. His body was not in the grave.”

²⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “You 2 are a bit stupid. You don’t properly believe the messages that God’s men told us a long time ago.

²⁶ You see, they told us about the special man God was going to send to us. They made it real clear. They said he will get this kind of trouble, and he will die, but then God will show everyone that he is really great.”

¹³ And beholde two of them went that same daye to a toune which was from Ierusalem about thre scoore for longes called Emaus:

¹⁴ and they talked togeder of all these thinges that had happened.

¹⁵ And it chaunsed as they commened togeder and reasoned that Iesus him selfe drue neare and went with them.

¹⁶ But their eyes were holden that they coulde not knowe him.

¹⁷ And he sayde vnto them: What maner of communicacions are these that ye have one to another as ye walke and are sadde.

¹⁸ And the one of them named Cleophas answered and sayd vnto him: arte thou only a straunger in Ierusalem and haste not knowen the thinges which have chaunsed therin in these dayes?

¹⁹ To whom he sayd: what thinges? And they sayd vnto him: of Iesus of Nazareth which was a Prophet myghtie in dede and worde before god and all the people.

²⁰ And how the hye prestes and oure rulers delyvered him to be condempned to deeth: and have crucified him.

²¹ But we trusted that it shuld have bene he that shuld have delyvered Israel. And as touchynge all these thinges to daye is even the thyrd daye that they were done.

²² Ye and certayne wemen also of oure company made vs astonyed which came erly vnto the sepulcre,

²³ and founde not his boddy: and came sayinge that they had sene a vision of angels which sayde that he was alyve.

²⁴ And certayne of them which were with vs went their waye to the sepulcre and founde it even so as the wemen had sayde: but him they sawe not.

²⁵ And he sayde vnto the: O foles and slowe of herte to beleve all that the prophetes have spoken.

²⁶ Ought not Christ to have suffred these thinges and to enter into his glory?

¹⁸ One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only person in Jerusalem who does not know the things which have happened there these days?”

¹⁹ Jesus said to them, “What things?” They answered him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death and crucified him.

²¹ But we had confidence that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Yes, and what is more, it is now the third day since all these things happened.

²² But also, some women of our company amazed us, having been at the tomb early in the morning.

²³ When they did not find his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.

²⁴ Some men who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said. But they did not see him.”

²⁵ Jesus said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

²⁶ Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?”

¹⁸ And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said to him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which have come to pass there in these days?

¹⁹ And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God, and all the people:

¹⁸ And one, whose name was Cleopas, answered, and said to him, Thou thyself art a pilgrim in Jerusalem, and hast thou not known, what things be done in it in these days?

¹⁹ To whom he said, What things? And they said to him, Of Jesus of Nazareth, that was a man prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;

²⁰ and how the high priests and our princes betook him into condemnation or into damnation of death, and crucified him.

²¹ But we hoped, that he should have again-bought Israel. And now on all these things the third day is today, that these things were done.

²² But also some women of ours made us afeared, which before day-light were at the grave;

²³ and when his body was not found, they came, and said, that they saw also a sight of angels, which said, that he liveth.

²⁴ And some men of ours went to the grave, and they found so as the women said, but they found not him.

²⁵ And he said to them, A! fools, and slow of heart to believe in all things that the prophets have spoken.

²⁶ Whether it behooved not Christ to suffer these things, and so to enter into his glory?

¹⁷ And he said to them, What be these words, that ye speak together wandering, and ye be sorrowful? (And he asked them, What be these things, that ye talk about as ye be walking, and ye be so sad?)

¹⁸ And one, whose name was Cleopas, answered, and said to him, Thou thyself art a pilgrim in Jerusalem (or Thou thyself art a visitor, or a stranger, in Jerusalem), or Thou alone art a pilgrim in Jerusalem (or Thou art alone and a visitor, or a stranger, in Jerusalem), and (so) hast thou not known, what things be done in it in these days?

¹⁹ To whom he said, What things? And they said to him, Of Jesus of Nazareth, that was a man prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;

²⁰ and how the high priests and our princes betook him into condemnation or into damnation of death, and crucified him. (and how the high priests and our leaders delivered him unto the damnation of death, and crucified him.)

²¹ But we hoped, that he should have again-bought Israel, (or And we had hoped, that he would have redeemed, or ransomed, Israel). And now on all these things the third day is today, that these things were done.

²² But also some women of ours made us afeared, which before daylight were at the grave; (And some of our women have made us afraid, who before daylight were at the tomb;)

²³ and when his body was not found, they came, and said, that they saw also a sight of angels, which said (or who said), that he liveth.

²⁴ And some men of ours went to the grave, and they found so as the women said, but they found not him. (And some of our men went to the tomb, and they found it just as the women had said, but they did not find him.)

²⁵ And he said to them, A! fools (or O fools!), and slow of heart to believe in all (the) things that the prophets have spoken.

²⁶ Whether it behooved not Christ to suffer these things (or Did it not behoove the Messiah to suffer these things), and so to enter into his glory?

¹³ And lo! tweyne of hem wenten in that dai in to a castel, that was fro Jerusalem the space of sixti furlongis, bi name Emaws.

¹⁴ And thei spaken togidir of alle these thingis that haddun bifallun.

¹⁵ And it was don, the while thei talkiden, and souyten bi hem silf, Jhesus hym silf neiyede, and wente with hem.

¹⁶ But her iyen weren holdun, that thei knewen him not.

¹⁷ And he seide to hem, What ben these wordis, that ye speken togidir wandrynge, and ye ben sorewful?

¹⁸ And oon, whos name was Cleofas, answerde, and seide, Thou thi silf art a pilgrym in Jerusalem, and hast thou not knowun, what thingis ben don in it in these daies?

¹⁹ To whom he seide, What thingis? And thei seiden to hym, Of Jhesu of Nazareth, that was a man prophete, myyti in werk and word bifor God and al the puple;

²⁰ and hou the heiyest preestis of oure princis bitoken hym in to dampnacioun of deeth, and crucifieden hym.

²¹ But we hopiden, that he schulde haue ayenbouyt Israel. And now on alle these thingis the thridde dai is to dai, that these thingis weren don.

²² But also summe wymmen of ouris maden vs afered, whiche bifor dai weren at the graue; and whanne his bodi was not foundun,

²³ thei camen, and seiden, that thei syen also a siyt of aungels, whiche seien, that he lyueth.

²⁴ And summe of oure wenten to the graue, and thei founden so as the wymmen seiden, but thei founden not hym.

²⁵ And he seide to hem, A! foolis, and slowe of herte to bileue in alle thingis that the prophetis han spokun.

²⁶ Whethir it bihofte not Crist to suffre these thingis, and so to entre in to his glorie?

¹³ And, lo, two of them were going on during that day to a village, distant sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, the name of which is Emmaus,

¹⁴ and they were conversing with one another about all these things that have happened.

¹⁵ And it came to pass in their conversing and reasoning together, that Jesus himself, having come nigh, was going on with them,

¹⁶ and their eyes were holden so as not to know him,

¹⁷ and he said unto them, 'What are these words that ye exchange with one another, walking, and ye are sad?'

¹⁸ And the one, whose name was Cleopas, answering, said unto him, 'Art thou alone such a stranger in Jerusalem, that thou hast not known the things that came to pass in it in these days?'

¹⁹ And he said to them, 'What things?' And they said to him, 'The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who became a man — a prophet — powerful in deed and word, before God and all the people,

²⁰ how also the chief priests and our rulers did deliver him up to a judgment of death, and crucified him;

²¹ and we were hoping that he it is who is about to redeem Israel, and also with all these things, this third day is passing to-day, since these things happened.

²² 'And certain women of ours also astonished us, coming early to the tomb,

²³ and not having found his body, they came, saying also to have seen an apparition of messengers, who say he is alive,

²⁴ and certain of those with us went away unto the tomb, and found as even the women said, and him they saw not.'

²⁵ And he said unto them, 'O inconsiderate and slow in heart, to believe on all that the prophets spake!

²⁶ Was it not behoving the Christ these things to suffer, and to enter into his glory?'
