³⁹ And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said.

⁴² For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

⁴³ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

⁴⁴ David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son?

⁴⁵ And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples,

³⁰ The second brother followed this law and married the widow, but the same thing happened to him.

³¹ Then the third brother married her, but the same thing happened again. All seven brothers, one by one, married that woman, but they had no children, and one by one they died.

³² Afterwards, the woman died, too.

³³ Therefore, if it is true that there will be a time when dead people will become alive again, whose wife do you think that woman will be then? ◄ Keep in mind that she was married to all seven brothers!/It will be impossible to decide because she was married to all seven brothers!► RHQ”

³⁴ Jesus replied to them, “Men who live here in this world take wives, or are given wives by their parents {their parents choose wives for them}.

³⁵ But the men whom God considers worthy of being in heaven after they become alive again will not be married.

³⁶ You need to know also that they cannot die anymore, because they will be immortal SIM like angels. The fact that God has caused them to be alive again will show that they are God's children.

³⁷ But as for people becoming alive again after they die, Moses wrote something about that. In the place where he wrote about the burning bush, he mentions the Lord as being the God whom Abraham worships and the God whom Isaac worships and the God whom Jacob worships.

³⁸ It is not dead people who worship God. It is living people who worship him. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob died long before Moses lived, but God said that they were still worshipping him, so we(inc) know their spirits were still alive! All people whose spirits are alive again after they die continue to live to honor God!”

³⁹ Some of the men who taught the Jewish laws replied, “Teacher, you (sg) have answered very well!”

⁴⁰ After that, they no longer dared to ask him any more questions like that to try to trap him.

⁴¹ Then Jesus said to them, “I will show you (OR, prove to you) that people are wrong who say that the Messiah is merely a descendant of King David! RHQ

⁴² Because David himself wrote about the Messiah in the book of Psalms, God said to my Lord, Sit here beside me on my right, where I will highly honor you(sg) MTY.

⁴³ Sit here while I completely defeat your enemies.

⁴⁴ King David calls the Messiah ‘ my Lord’! So ◄ the Messiah cannot be just someone descended from King David!/how can the Messiah be just someone descended from King David?► RHQ What I just said proves that he is much greater than David, isn't that right?”

⁴⁵ While all the other people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,

³³ When they come back from the dead, whose wife will she be? for all the seven had her.

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, The sons of this world are married and have wives;

³⁵ But those to whom is given the reward of the world to come, and to come back from the dead, have no wives, and are not married;

³⁶ And death has no more power over them, for they are equal to the angels, and are sons of God, being of those who will come back from the dead.

³⁷ But even Moses made it clear that the dead come back to life, saying, in the story of the burning thorn-tree, The Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

³⁸ Now he is not the God of the dead but of the living: for all men are living to him.

³⁹ And some of the scribes, in answer to this, said, Master, you have said well.

⁴⁰ And they had fear of putting any more questions to him.

⁴¹ And he said to them, Why do they say that the Christ is the son of David?

⁴² For David himself says in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Take your seat at my right hand,

⁴³ Till I put under your feet all those who are against you.

⁴⁴ David then gives him the name of Lord, so how is it possible for him to be his son?

⁴⁵ And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,

³⁰ and the second took the woman, and he died childless;

³¹ and the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died;

³² and last of all the woman also died.

³³ In the resurrection therefore of which of them does she become wife, for the seven had her as wife?

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry and are given in marriage,

³⁵ but they who are counted worthy to have part in that world, and the resurrection from among the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;

³⁶ for neither can they die any more, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

³⁷ But that the dead rise, even Moses shewed in the section of the bush, when he called the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob;

³⁸ but he is not God of the dead but of the living; for all live for him.

³⁹ And some of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well spoken.

⁴⁰ For they did not dare any more to ask him anything.

⁴¹ And he said to them, How do they say that the Christ is David's son,

³⁷ Now even Moses revealed that the dead are raised, in the burning bush passage, when he called the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

³⁸ For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all are alive to Him.”

³⁹ Then some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”

⁴⁰ But after that they dared not question Him anymore.

⁴¹ And He said to them, “How is it that they say the Christ is the Son of David?

⁴² Even David himself said in the Book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,

⁴³ till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” ’

⁴⁴ Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son?”

⁴⁵ And as all the people listened, He said to His disciples,

³⁰ then the second took the widow and he died childless;

³¹ then the third took her, in fact all seven in sequence—they all died childless.

³² Finally, last of all, the woman died also.

³³ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since all seven had her?”

³⁴ So in answer Jesus said to them: “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage;

³⁵ but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age, to the resurrection from among the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage.

³⁶ Because they cannot die anymore, being like angels—they are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

³⁷ But that the dead are raised, Moses indeed revealed about the Bush when he recorded: ‘The Lord, the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’

³⁸ So He is not the God of the dead, but of the living—to Him all are alive.”

³⁹ Then some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, you spoke well.”

⁴⁰ And they no longer dared to question Him further.

⁴¹ Then He said to them: “How is it that they say that the Messiah is David's Son?

⁴² Why David himself affirms in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord: sit at my right hand

⁴³ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’

⁴⁴ Since David calls Him ‘Lord’, how then is He his Son?”

⁴⁵ Then, in the hearing of the people, He said to His disciples:

³⁰ The second

³² Finally the wife died too.

³³ Now whose wife will she be in the resurrection, since all seven brothers had married her?”

³⁴ “Here in this age people marry and are given in marriage,” Jesus explained.

³⁵ “But those who are considered worthy to share in the age to come and the resurrection from the dead don't marry or are given in marriage.

³⁶ They can't die any longer; they're like the angels and are children of God since they're children of the resurrection.

³⁷ But on the question of whether the dead are raised, even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush, when he calls the Lord, ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

³⁸ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him they all are alive.”

³⁹ Some of the religious teachers responded, “That was a good answer, Teacher.”

⁴⁰ After this no one dared to ask him any more questions.

⁴¹ Then Jesus asked them, “Why is it said that Christ is the son of David?

⁴² For David himself says in the book of Psalms: The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand

⁴³ until I make all your enemies a footstool for your feet.’

⁴⁴ David calls him ‘Lord,’ so how can he be David's son?”

⁴⁵ While everyone was paying attention, he said to his disciples,

³⁰ And the second tooke the wife, and he dyed childelesse.

³¹ Then the third tooke her: and so likewise the seuen dyed, and left no children.

³² And last of all the woman dyed also.

³³ Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? for seuen had her to wife.

³⁴ Then Iesus answered, and sayd vnto them, The children of this world marry wiues, and are married.

³⁵ But they which shalbe counted worthy to enioy that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry wiues, neither are married.

³⁶ For they can die no more, forasmuch as they are equall vnto the Angels, and are the sonnes of God, since they are the children of the resurrection.

³⁷ And that the dead shall rise againe, euen Moses shewed it besides the bush, when he said, The Lord is the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob.

³⁸ For he is not the God of the dead, but of them which liue: for all liue vnto him.

³⁹ Then certaine of the Scribes answered, and sayd, Master, thou hast well sayd.

⁴⁴ Seeing Dauid called him Lord, howe is he then his sonne?

³⁵ but, for those who are thought worthy to attain to that other world and the resurrection from the dead, there is no marrying or being married,

³⁶ nor indeed can they die again, for they are like angels and, having shared in the resurrection, they are God's children.

³⁷ As to the fact that the dead rise, even Moses indicated that, in the passage about the Bush, when he calls the Lord — ‘The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

³⁸ Now he is not God of dead people, but of living. For in his sight all are alive.”

³⁹ “Well said, teacher!” exclaimed some of the teachers of the Law,

⁴⁰ for they did not venture to question him any further.

⁴¹ But Jesus said to them, “How is it that people say that the Christ is to be David's son?

⁴² For David, in the book of Psalms, says himself — ‘The Lord said to my lord: Sit at my right hand,

⁴³ until I put your enemies as a stool for your feet.’

³⁵ But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.

³⁶ For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses Drawn out showed at the bush, when Yahweh said ‘The God of Abraham Father of a multitude, the God of Isaac Laughter, and the God of Jacob Supplanter.’

³⁹ Some of the Torah-Teachers answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”

⁴⁰ They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.

⁴¹ He said to them, “Why do they say that the Messiah Anointed one is David Beloved’s son?

⁴² For David Beloved himself says in the book of Psalms,

⁴³ ‘Yahweh said to adoni my Lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’

⁴⁴ “David Beloved therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”

⁴⁵ In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,

³⁰ And the seconde toke the wyfe and he dyed chyldlesse.

³¹ And the thyrde toke her and in lyke wyse the resydue of the seven and leeft no chyldren be hynde them and dyed.

³² Last of all the woman dyed also.

³³ Now at the resurreccio whose wyfe of them shall she be? For seven had her to wyfe.

³⁴ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them. The chyldre of this worlde mary wyves and are maryed

³⁵ but they which shalbe made worthy to enioye that worlde and the resurreccion from deeth nether mary wyves nether are maryed

³⁶ nor yet can dye eny moare. For they are equall vnto the angels: and are the sonnes of God in as moche as they are the chyldre of the resurreccion.

³⁷ And that the deed shall ryse agayne even Moses signified besydes the busshe when he sayde: the Lorde God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Iacob.

³⁸ For he is not the God of the deed but of them which live. For all live in him.

³⁹ Then certayne of the Pharises answered and sayde: Master thou hast well sayde.

⁴⁰ And after that durst they not axe him eny question at all.

⁴¹ Then sayde he vnto them: how saye they that Christ is Davids sonne?

⁴² And David him selfe sayth in the boke of the Psalmes: The Lorde sayde vnto my Lorde syt on my right honde

⁴³ tyll I make thine enemys thy fothe stole.

⁴⁴ Seinge David calleth him Lorde: How is he then his sonne.

⁴⁵ Then in the audience of all the people he sayde vnto his disciples

³⁰ and the brother (pur)suing took her, (or and the brother following took her), or and the second took her, and he is dead without (any) son;

³¹ and the third took her; also and all seven, and they left not seed or and left no seed, but be dead;

³² and the last of all the woman is dead.

⁴¹ But he said to them, How say men, Christ to be the son of David, Forsooth he said to them, How say men, that Christ is the son of David, (And he said to them, How can men say, that the Messiah is the Son of David?)

⁴² and David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right half, (For David himself said in the Book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, or on my right side,)

⁴³ till I put thine enemies a stool of thy feet? (until I make thine enemies thy footstool.)

⁴⁴ Therefore David calleth him Lord, and how is he his son? (And so if David calleth him Lord, then how is he his son?)

⁴⁵ And in (the) hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,

³⁰ and the brothir suynge took hir, and he is deed with outen sone;

³¹ and the thridde took hir; also and alle seuene, and leften not seed, but ben deed;

³² and the laste of alle the womman is deed.

³³ Therfor in the `risyng ayen, whos wijf of hem schal sche be? for seuene hadden hir to wijf.

³⁴ And Jhesus seide to hem, Sones of this world wedden, and ben youun to weddyngis;

³⁵ but thei that schulen be had worthi of that world, and of the `risyng ayen fro deeth, nethir ben wedded,

³⁶ nethir wedden wyues, nethir schulen mowe die more; for thei ben euen with aungels, and ben the sones of God, sithen thei ben the sones of `risyng ayen fro deeth.

³⁷ And that deed men risen ayen, also Moises schewide bisidis the busch, as he seith, The Lord God of Abraham, and God of Ysaac, and God of Jacob.
