²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Cæsar’s.

²⁵ And he said unto them, Then render unto Cæsar the things that are Cæsar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.

²⁶ And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

²⁷ And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection;

²⁸ and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man’s brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁹ There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless;

³⁰ and the second:

³¹ and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died.

³² Afterward the woman also died.

³³ In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife.

²⁴ “Show me a Roman coin. Then tell me whose picture is on it. And tell me whose name is on it.” They showed him a coin and said, “It has the picture and name of Caesar, the head of the Roman government.”

²⁵ He said to them, “In that case, give to the government MTY what they require, and give to God what he requires.”

²⁶ While the people were there, the spies were unable to find fault with him for what he said. And they were amazed at his answer. So they said nothing.

²⁷ Some Sadducees came to Jesus. They are a Jewish sect who do not believe that people will become alive again after they die.

²⁸ They wanted to ask Jesus a question in order to discredit the idea that dead people will live again. One of them said to Jesus, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us Jews about situations where a man who has a wife but no children. If the man dies, his brother should marry the dead man's widow so that she can have a child by him. People will consider that the child is the descendant of the man who died, and in that way the dead man will have descendants.

²⁹ Well, there were seven brothers in one family. The oldest one married, but he and his wife did not bear any children. Later he died.

³⁰ The second brother followed this law and married the widow, but the same thing happened to him.

³¹ Then the third brother married her, but the same thing happened again. All seven brothers, one by one, married that woman, but they had no children, and one by one they died.

³² Afterwards, the woman died, too.

³³ Therefore, if it is true that there will be a time when dead people will become alive again, whose wife do you think that woman will be then? ◄ Keep in mind that she was married to all seven brothers!/It will be impossible to decide because she was married to all seven brothers!► RHQ”

³⁴ Jesus replied to them, “Men who live here in this world take wives, or are given wives by their parents {their parents choose wives for them}.

²⁸ Master, Moses said that if a man's brother comes to his end, having a wife, but no children, his brother is to take the wife, and get a family for his brother.

²⁹ Now there were seven brothers, and the first had a wife and came to his end, having no children;

³⁰ And the second;

³¹ And the third took her; and in the same way, all the seven, without having any children, came to their end.

³² And last of all, the woman came to her end.

³³ When they come back from the dead, whose wife will she be? for all the seven had her.

²⁸ demanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother.

²⁸ saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife, and this man dies childless, that his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

²⁹ Now there were seven brothers. And the first, having taken a wife, died childless.

³⁰ And the second took her as wife, and this man died childless.

³¹ Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and they died.

³² Last of all the woman died also.

³³ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.”

²⁷ Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, approached and questioned Him,

²⁸ saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's married brother dies childless, then his brother should take the widow and produce offspring for his brother.

²⁹ Now there were seven brothers: the first took a wife and died childless;

³⁰ then the second took the widow and he died childless;

³¹ then the third took her, in fact all seven in sequence—they all died childless.

³² Finally, last of all, the woman died also.

³³ Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since all seven had her?”

³⁴ So in answer Jesus said to them: “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage;

²⁴ “Show me a coin—a denarius. Whose image and inscription is on it?” “Caesar's,” they answered.

²⁵ “Then give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give back to God what belongs to God,” he told them.

²⁶ They weren't able to trap him by what he told the people. They were stunned at his reply, and fell silent.

²⁷ Then some of the Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, came to Jesus with this question:

²⁸ “Teacher,” they began, “Moses gave us a law that if a married man dies leaving a wife without children, then his brother should marry the widow and have children for his dead brother.

²⁹ Once there were seven brothers. The first had a wife, and died without having children.

³⁰ The second

³¹ and then the third brother also married her. In the end all seven brothers married her, and then died without having children.

³² Finally the wife died too.

³³ Now whose wife will she be in the resurrection, since all seven brothers had married her?”

³⁴ “Here in this age people marry and are given in marriage,” Jesus explained.

²⁹ Now there were seuen brethren, and the first tooke a wife, and he dyed without children.

³⁰ And the second tooke the wife, and he dyed childelesse.

³¹ Then the third tooke her: and so likewise the seuen dyed, and left no children.

³² And last of all the woman dyed also.

³³ Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? for seuen had her to wife.

²⁸ They asked him, “Teacher, Moses Drawn out wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.

²⁹ There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

³⁰ The second took her as wife, and he died childless.

²⁸ sayinge: Master Moses wrote vnto vs if eny mannes brother dye havinge a wyfe and the same dye with out yssue: that then his brother shuld take his wyfe and reyse vp seede vnto his brother.

²⁹ Ther were seven brethren and the fyrste toke a wyfe and dyed with out children.

³⁰ And the seconde toke the wyfe and he dyed chyldlesse.

³¹ And the thyrde toke her and in lyke wyse the resydue of the seven and leeft no chyldren be hynde them and dyed.

³² Last of all the woman dyed also.

³³ Now at the resurreccio whose wyfe of them shall she be? For seven had her to wyfe.

³⁴ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them. The chyldre of this worlde mary wyves and are maryed

²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”

²⁵ He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

²⁶ They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marvelled at his answer and were silent.

²⁷ Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.

²⁸ They asked him, “Rabbi, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.

²⁹ There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

³⁰ The second took her as wife, and he died childless.

³¹ The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.

³² Afterward the woman also died.

³³ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”

³⁴ Yeshua said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.

²⁴ Show ye to me a penny; whose image and superscription hath it? They answered, and said to him, The emperor’s or Caesar’s.

²⁵ And he said to them, Yield ye therefore to the emperor those things that be the emperor’s or to Caesar those things that be Caesar’s, and those things that be of God, to God.

²⁶ And they might not reprove his word before the people; and they wondered in his answer, and held peace.

²⁸ and said, Master, Moses wrote to us, if the brother of any man have a wife, and he be dead or died, and he was without heirs or free children, that his brother take his wife, and raise seed to his brother.

²⁹ And so there were seven brethren. The first took a wife, and is dead without heirs, or without sons, or free children;

³⁰ and the brother pursuing took her or the second took her, and he is dead without son;

³¹ and the third took her; also and all seven, and they left not seed or no seed, but be dead;

³² and the last of all the woman is dead.

³³ Therefore in the rising again, whose wife of them shall she be? for seven had her to wife.

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, Sons of this world wed, and be given to weddings;

³³ Therefore in the rising again, whose wife of them shall she be? for seven had her to wife. (And so in the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? for all seven had her as their wife.)

²⁵ And he seide to hem, Yelde ye therfor to the emperoure tho thingis that ben the emperours, and tho thingis that ben of God, to God.

²⁶ And thei myyten not repreue his word bifor the puple; and thei wondriden in his answere, and heelden pees.

²⁷ Summe of the Saduceis, that denyeden the ayenrisyng fro deeth to lijf, camen, and axiden hym,

²⁸ and seiden, Maister, Moises wroot to vs, if the brother of ony man haue a wijf, and be deed, and he was with outen eiris, that his brothir take his wijf, and reise seed to his brother.

²⁹ And so there weren seuene britheren. The firste took a wijf, and is deed with outen eiris;

³⁰ and the brothir suynge took hir, and he is deed with outen sone;

³¹ and the thridde took hir; also and alle seuene, and leften not seed, but ben deed;

³² and the laste of alle the womman is deed.

³³ Therfor in the `risyng ayen, whos wijf of hem schal sche be? for seuene hadden hir to wijf.

³⁴ And Jhesus seide to hem, Sones of this world wedden, and ben youun to weddyngis;

²⁴ shew me a denary; of whom hath it an image and superscription?' and they answering said, 'Of Caesar:'

²⁵ and he said to them, 'Give back, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'

²⁶ and they were not able to take hold on his saying before the people, and having wondered at his answer, they were silent.

²⁷ And certain of the Sadducees, who are denying that there is a rising again, having come near, questioned him,

²⁸ saying, 'Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother may die, having a wife, and he may die childless — that his brother may take the wife, and may raise up seed to his brother.

²⁹ 'There were, then, seven brothers, and the first having taken a wife, died childless,

³⁰ and the second took the wife, and he died childless,

³¹ and the third took her, and in like manner also the seven — they left not children, and they died;

³² and last of all died also the woman:

³³ in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? — for the seven had her as wife.'
