²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?

²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,

²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Cæsar’s.

²⁵ And he said unto them, Then render unto Cæsar the things that are Cæsar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no?

²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?

²⁴ Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar’s.

²⁵ And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be Cæsar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.

²³ But Jesus knew that they were trying to trick him to get him into trouble, either with the Jews, who hated to pay those taxes, or with the Roman government. So he said to them,

²⁴ “Show me a Roman coin. Then tell me whose picture is on it. And tell me whose name is on it.” They showed him a coin and said, “It has the picture and name of Caesar, the head of the Roman government.”

²⁵ He said to them, “In that case, give to the government MTY what they require, and give to God what he requires.”

²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?

²⁴ Let me see a penny. Whose image and name are on it? And they said, Caesar's.

²⁵ And he said, Then give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's.

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

²³ But perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me?

²⁴ Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's.

²⁵ And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?

²³ But he considering their guile, said to them: Why tempt you me?

²⁴ Shew me a penny. Whose image and inscription hath it? They answering, said to him, Caesar’s.

²⁵ And he said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s: and to God the things that are God’s.

²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

²³ But perceiving their craftiness, He said to them, “Why do you test Me?

²⁴ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said, “Caesar's.”

²⁴ Show me a denarius—whose image and inscription does it have?” In answer they said, “Caesar's.”

²⁵ So He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

²² So should we pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

²³ But Jesus saw through their trickery, and said to them,

²⁴ “Show me a coin—a denarius. Whose image and inscription is on it?” “Caesar's,” they answered.

²⁵ “Then give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give back to God what belongs to God,” he told them.

²² Is it lawfull for vs to giue Cesar tribute or no?

²³ But he perceiued their craftines, and sayd vnto them, Why tempt ye me?

²⁵ Then he sayd vnto them, Giue then vnto Cesar the things which are Cesars, and to God those which are Gods.

²² are we right in paying tribute to the Emperor or not?”

²⁵ He said to them, “Then give to Caesar Ruler the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

²² Ys it laufull for vs to geve Cesar tribute or no?

²³ He perceaved their craftynes and sayde vnto them: why tept ye me?

²⁴ Shewe me a peny. Whose ymage and superscripcion hath it? They answered and sayde: Cesars.

²⁵ And he sayde vnto them: Geve then vnto Cesar that which belongeth vnto Cesar: and to God that which pertayneth to God.

²³ And he biheld the disseit of hem, and seide to hem, What tempten ye me?

²⁴ Shewe ye to me a peny; whos ymage and superscripcioun hath it? Thei answerden, and seiden to hym, The emperouris.

²⁵ And he seide to hem, Yelde ye therfor to the emperoure tho thingis that ben the emperours, and tho thingis that ben of God, to God.

²³ And he, having perceived their craftiness, said unto them, 'Why me do ye tempt?

²⁴ shew me a denary; of whom hath it an image and superscription?' and they answering said, 'Of Caesar:'

²⁵ and he said to them, 'Give back, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'
