Luke 20:15-33 in American Standard Version (1901)

15 And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17 But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner?
18 Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.
19 And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God:
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,
24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Cæsar’s.
25 And he said unto them, Then render unto Cæsar the things that are Cæsar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.
26 And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27 And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection;
28 and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man’s brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless;
30 and the second:
31 and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died.
32 Afterward the woman also died.
33 In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife.

Luke 20:15-33 in Translation for Translators

15 So they dragged him outside the vineyard and they killed him. So ◄I will tell you what the owner of the vineyard will do to them!/do you know what the owner of the vineyard will do to them?► RHQ
16 He will come and kill those men who were taking care of the vineyard. Then he will arrange for other people to take care of it.” When the people listening to Jesus heard that, they said, “ We would not do anything like those wicked men did!”
17 But Jesus looked directly at them and said, “You can say that, but think about the meaning of these words that are written {which a prophet wrote} RHQ in the Scriptures, The men who were building a house rejected a certain stone. But others put that same stone in its proper place, and it has become the most important stone in the building MET.
18 That stone represents me, the Messiah, and those who reject me are like people who fall on this stone. Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces {This stone will break to pieces everyone who falls on it}, and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”
19 The chief priests and the men who taught the Jewish laws realized that he was accusing them when he told the parable about what those wicked men did. So they immediately tried to find a way to seize MTY him, but they did not seize him, because they were afraid of what the people there would do if they did that.
20 So they watched him carefully. They also hired ◄spies/secret agents► who pretended to be sincere. But they really wanted to get him to say something for which they could accuse him. They wanted to be able to turn him over to the authority of the governor of the province. But they also knew that the Jews were disgusted with having to pay taxes to the government.
21 So one of them asked Jesus, “Teacher, we (exc) know that you (sg) speak and teach what is right. You tell the truth even if important people do not like it. You teach truthfully what God wants us to do.
22 So tell us what you think about this matter: Is it right that we pay taxes to the Roman government MTY, or not?”
23 But Jesus knew that they were trying to trick him to get him into trouble, either with the Jews, who hated to pay those taxes, or with the Roman government. So he said to them,
24 “Show me a Roman coin. Then tell me whose picture is on it. And tell me whose name is on it.” They showed him a coin and said, “It has the picture and name of Caesar, the head of the Roman government.”
25 He said to them, “In that case, give to the government MTY what they require, and give to God what he requires.”
26 While the people were there, the spies were unable to find fault with him for what he said. And they were amazed at his answer. So they said nothing.
27 Some Sadducees came to Jesus. They are a Jewish sect who do not believe that people will become alive again after they die.
28 They wanted to ask Jesus a question in order to discredit the idea that dead people will live again. One of them said to Jesus, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us Jews about situations where a man who has a wife but no children. If the man dies, his brother should marry the dead man's widow so that she can have a child by him. People will consider that the child is the descendant of the man who died, and in that way the dead man will have descendants.
29 Well, there were seven brothers in one family. The oldest one married, but he and his wife did not bear any children. Later he died.
30 The second brother followed this law and married the widow, but the same thing happened to him.
31 Then the third brother married her, but the same thing happened again. All seven brothers, one by one, married that woman, but they had no children, and one by one they died.
32 Afterwards, the woman died, too.
33 Therefore, if it is true that there will be a time when dead people will become alive again, whose wife do you think that woman will be then? ◄ Keep in mind that she was married to all seven brothers!/It will be impossible to decide because she was married to all seven brothers!► RHQ”

15 And driving him out of the garden they put him to death. Now what will the lord do to these workmen?
16 He will come and put them to destruction and give the garden to others. And when he said this, they said, May it not be so.
17 But he, looking on them, said, Is it not in the Writings, The stone which the builders put on one side, the same has become the chief stone of the building?
18 Everyone falling on that stone will be broken, but the man on whom the stone comes down will be crushed to dust.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes made attempts to get their hands on him in that very hour; and they were in fear of the people, for they saw that he had made up this story against them.
20 And they kept watch on him, and sent out secret representatives, who were acting the part of good men, in order that they might get something from his words, on account of which they might give him up to the government and into the power of the ruler.
21 And they put a question to him, saying, Master, we are certain that your teaching and your words are right, and that you have no respect for a man's position, but you are teaching the true way of God:
22 Is it right for us to make payment of taxes to Caesar or not?
23 But he saw through their trick and said to them,
24 Let me see a penny. Whose image and name are on it? And they said, Caesar's.
25 And he said, Then give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's.
26 And they were not able to get anything from these words before the people: but they were full of wonder at his answer, and said nothing.
27 And some of the Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no coming back from the dead; and they said to him,
28 Master, Moses said that if a man's brother comes to his end, having a wife, but no children, his brother is to take the wife, and get a family for his brother.
29 Now there were seven brothers, and the first had a wife and came to his end, having no children;
30 And the second;
31 And the third took her; and in the same way, all the seven, without having any children, came to their end.
32 And last of all, the woman came to her end.
33 When they come back from the dead, whose wife will she be? for all the seven had her.

28 saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's married brother dies childless, then his brother should take the widow and produce offspring for his brother.
29 Now there were seven brothers: the first took a wife and died childless;
30 then the second took the widow and he died childless;
31 then the third took her, in fact all seven in sequence—they all died childless.
32 Finally, last of all, the woman died also.
33 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since all seven had her?”

Luke 20:15-33 in Free Bible Version

15 They threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and kill these farmers and let others have the vineyard.” When they heard the story, they said, “May this never happen!”
17 But Jesus looked at them and said, “Then why is it written in the Scriptures, ‘The stone the builders rejected has now become the chief cornerstone’?
18 Anyone who falls on that stone will be broken in pieces; anyone it falls upon will be crushed.”
19 Immediately the religious teachers and the chief priests wanted to arrest him because they realized that the story Jesus told was aimed at them, but they were afraid of what the people would do.
20 Watching for an opportunity they sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They tried to catch Jesus out in something he said so they could hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
21 They said, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is good and right, and that you're not swayed by the opinions of others. You truly teach the way of God.
22 So should we pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23 But Jesus saw through their trickery, and said to them,
24 “Show me a coin—a denarius. Whose image and inscription is on it?” “Caesar's,” they answered.
25 “Then give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give back to God what belongs to God,” he told them.
26 They weren't able to trap him by what he told the people. They were stunned at his reply, and fell silent.
27 Then some of the Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, came to Jesus with this question:
28 “Teacher,” they began, “Moses gave us a law that if a married man dies leaving a wife without children, then his brother should marry the widow and have children for his dead brother.
29 Once there were seven brothers. The first had a wife, and died without having children.
30 The second
31 and then the third brother also married her. In the end all seven brothers married her, and then died without having children.
32 Finally the wife died too.
33 Now whose wife will she be in the resurrection, since all seven brothers had married her?”

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”

Luke 20:15-33 in World Messianic Bible British Edition

15 Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
17 But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected was made the chief cornerstone?’
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
19 The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
20 They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21 They asked him, “Rabbi, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22 Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?
24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”
25 He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
26 They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marvelled at his answer and were silent.
27 Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
28 They asked him, “Rabbi, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
30 The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
31 The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
32 Afterward the woman also died.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”

15 And they casted him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What shall then the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 He shall come, and destroy these tillers, and give the vineyard to others. And when this thing was heard, they said to him, God forbid.
17 But he beheld them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which men building reproved, this is made into the head of the corner?
18 Each that shall fall on that stone, shall be bruised or be broken, but on whom it shall fall, it shall all-break him or it shall break him into small parts.
19 And the princes of priests, and the scribes, sought to lay on him hands or to lay hands on him in that hour, and they dreaded the people; for they knew that to them he said this likeness.
20 And they espied, and sent spies, that feigned themselves just, that they should take him in word, and betake him to the power of the prince, and to the power of the justice.
21 And they asked him, and said, Master, we know, that rightly thou sayest and teachest or that thou sayest and teachest rightly; and thou takest not the person of man, but thou teachest in truth the way of God.
22 Is it leaveful to us to give tribute to the emperor or to Caesar, or nay?
23 And he beheld the deceit of them, and said to them, What tempt ye me?
24 Show ye to me a penny; whose image and superscription hath it? They answered, and said to him, The emperor’s or Caesar’s.
25 And he said to them, Yield ye therefore to the emperor those things that be the emperor’s or to Caesar those things that be Caesar’s, and those things that be of God, to God.
26 And they might not reprove his word before the people; and they wondered in his answer, and held peace.
27 Some of the Sadducees, that denied the again-rising from death to life or the resurrection, came, and asked him.
28 and said, Master, Moses wrote to us, if the brother of any man have a wife, and he be dead or died, and he was without heirs or free children, that his brother take his wife, and raise seed to his brother.
29 And so there were seven brethren. The first took a wife, and is dead without heirs, or without sons, or free children;
30 and the brother pursuing took her or the second took her, and he is dead without son;
31 and the third took her; also and all seven, and they left not seed or no seed, but be dead;
32 and the last of all the woman is dead.
33 Therefore in the rising again, whose wife of them shall she be? for seven had her to wife.

Luke 20:15-33 in Young's Literal Translation

15 and having cast him outside of the vineyard, they killed him; what, then, shall the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come, and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.' And having heard, they said, 'Let it not be!'
17 and he, having looked upon them, said, 'What, then, is this that hath been written: A stone that the builders rejected — this became head of a corner?
18 every one who hath fallen on that stone shall be broken, and on whom it may fall, it will crush him to pieces.'
19 And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him in that hour, and they feared the people, for they knew that against them he spake this simile.
20 And, having watched him, they sent forth liers in wait, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his word, to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor,
21 and they questioned him, saying, 'Teacher, we have known that thou dost say and teach rightly, and dost not accept a person, but in truth the way of God dost teach;
22 Is it lawful to us to give tribute to Caesar or not?'
23 And he, having perceived their craftiness, said unto them, 'Why me do ye tempt?
24 shew me a denary; of whom hath it an image and superscription?' and they answering said, 'Of Caesar:'
25 and he said to them, 'Give back, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'
26 and they were not able to take hold on his saying before the people, and having wondered at his answer, they were silent.
27 And certain of the Sadducees, who are denying that there is a rising again, having come near, questioned him,
28 saying, 'Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother may die, having a wife, and he may die childless — that his brother may take the wife, and may raise up seed to his brother.
29 'There were, then, seven brothers, and the first having taken a wife, died childless,
30 and the second took the wife, and he died childless,
31 and the third took her, and in like manner also the seven — they left not children, and they died;
32 and last of all died also the woman:
33 in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? — for the seven had her as wife.'
