Luke 1:62-70 in English

⁶² And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

⁶³ And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

⁶⁴ And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, blessing God.

⁶⁵ And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judæa.

⁶⁶ And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people,

⁶⁹ And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David

⁷⁰ (As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from of old),

⁶² And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

⁶³ And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

⁶² Then they made motions with their hands to Zechariah, for him to indicate what name he wanted to be given {to give} to his son.

⁶³ So he signaled that they should give him a tablet to write on. When they gave him one, he wrote on it, “His name is John.” All those who were there were surprised!

⁶⁴ Immediately Zechariah was able to speak again MTY, and he praised God.

⁶⁵ All their neighbors were amazed/awestruck! They told other people who lived all over the highlands of Judea about what had happened.

⁶⁶ Everyone who heard about it kept thinking about it. They were saying, “We wonder what will this child do for God when he grows up RHQ!” They wondered that because from what had happened they were sure that God would be helping that child SYN in a powerful way.

⁶⁷ After Zechariah's son was born, Zechariah was completely directed by the Holy Spirit {the Holy Spirit completely directed Zechariah} as he spoke these words that came from God:

⁶⁸ “Praise the Lord, the God whom we(inc) people of Israel worship, because he has come to set us, his people, free from our enemies.

⁶⁹ He is sending us someone who will powerfully MTY save us, someone who is descended from MTY King David, who served God well.

⁷⁰ Long ago God caused his prophets to say that he would do that.

⁶² They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

⁶³ He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.” They all marveled.

⁶⁴ His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.

⁶⁵ Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶³ And he sent for writing materials and put down: His name is John; and they were all surprised.

⁶⁴ And straight away his mouth was open and his tongue was free and he gave praise to God.

⁶⁵ And fear came on all those who were living round about them: and there was much talk about all these things in all the hill-country of Judaea.

⁶⁶ And all who had word of them kept them in their minds and said, What will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And his father, Zacharias, was full of the Holy Spirit, and with the voice of a prophet said these words:

⁶⁸ Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has come to his people and made them free,

⁶⁹ Lifting up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,

⁷⁰ (As he said, by the mouth of his holy prophets, from the earliest times,)

⁶² And they made signs to his father as to what he might wish it to be called.

⁶³ And having asked for a writing-table, he wrote saying, John is his name. And they all wondered.

⁶⁴ And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake, blessing God.

⁶⁵ And fear came upon all who dwelt round about them; and in the whole hill-country of Judaea all these things were the subject of conversation.

⁶⁶ And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And the Lord's hand was with him.

⁶⁷ And Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, because he has visited and wrought redemption for his people,

⁶⁹ and raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of David his servant;

⁷⁰ as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began;

⁶² And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

⁶³ And demanding a writing table, he wrote, saying: John is his name. And they all wondered.

⁶⁴ And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.

⁶⁵ And fear came upon all their neighbours; and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ And all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart, saying: What an one, think ye, shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And Zachary his father was filled with the Holy Ghost; and he prophesied, saying:

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:

⁶⁹ And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant:

⁷⁰ As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the beginning:

⁶² So they made signs to his father about what he wished him to be called.

⁶³ And asking for a writing tablet, he wrote, saying, “His name is John.” And they all marveled.

⁶⁴ Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he started to speak, praising God.

⁶⁵ Then fear came on all who lived around them; and all these things were being talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people,

⁶⁹ And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,

⁷⁰ As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, Who have been since the world began,

⁶² So they started motioning to his father, as to what he would have him called.

⁶³ Asking for a writing tablet he wrote this: “His name is to be John!” They all marveled.

⁶⁴ Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed and he started to speak, blessing God.

⁶⁵ (Well a fear came on all who lived around them; and all these sayings kept being talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ All who heard kept them in their hearts saying, “What then will this child be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.)

⁶⁷ Now his father Zacharias was filled with Holy Spirit and prophesied saying:

⁶⁸ “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited and provided redemption for His people;

⁶⁹ and has raised up a horn of deliverance for us in the house of His servant David

⁷⁰ —just as He spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets from antiquity—

⁶² Through gestures they asked Zechariah, the boy's father, what he wanted to call his son.

⁶³ Zechariah motioned for something to write on. To everyone's surprise he wrote, “His name is John.”

⁶⁴ Immediately he could speak again, and he started praising God.

⁶⁵ All those living nearby were in awe at what had happened, and the news spread throughout the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ Everyone who heard the news wondered what it meant. “What will the little boy grow up to be?” they asked, for it was clear he was very special to God.

⁶⁷ Zechariah, his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke this prophecy:

⁶⁸ “The Lord, the God of Israel, he is wonderful, for he has come to his people and set them free.

⁶⁹ He has given us a great Savior from the line of his servant David,

⁷⁰ as he promised through his holy prophets long ago.

⁶² Then they made signes to his father, howe he would haue him called.

⁶³ So hee asked for writing tables, and wrote, saying, His name is Iohn, and they marueiled all.

⁶⁴ And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake and praised God.

⁶⁵ Then feare came on all them that dwelt neere vnto them, and all these woordes were noised abroade throughout all the hill countrey of Iudea.

⁶⁶ And al they that heard them, laid them vp in their hearts, saying, What maner childe shall this be! and the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ Then his father Zacharias was filled with the holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he hath visited and redeemed his people,

⁶⁹ And hath raised vp the horne of saluation vnto vs, in the house of his seruant Dauid,

⁷⁰ As he spake by ye mouth of his holy Prophets, which were since the world began, saying,

⁶² And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

⁶³ And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

⁶⁶ All who heard it kept it in mind, asking one another — “What can this child be destined to become?” For the Power of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ Then his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit, and, speaking under inspiration, said:

⁶⁸ “Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, Who has visited his people and wrought their deliverance,

⁶⁹ and has raised up for us the Strength of our salvation In the house of his servant David —

⁷⁰ As he promised by the lips of his holy prophets of old —

⁶² and they made signs to the child's father, to find out what he wished the child to be called.

⁶³ Asking for a writing-tablet, he wrote the words — ‘His name is John.’ Everyone was surprised

⁶⁶ All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of MarYah Master Yahweh was with him.

⁶⁷ His father, Zacharias Remembered by Yah, was filled with Ruach haKodesh Spirit of the Holiness, and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ “Blessed be MarYah Master Yahweh, the God of Israel God prevails, for he has visited and redeemed his people;

⁶⁹ and has raised up a horn of yishu'ah ·salvation· for us in the house of his servant David Beloved

⁷⁰ (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

⁶² So they made signs with their hands to his father, to ask him what name he wanted to give to the boy.

⁶³ Zechariah made signs to get them to give him something to write on, then he wrote, “His name is John.” Everyone was shocked.

⁶⁴ Then, straight away, Zechariah started to talk again, and he told everyone that God is very great.

⁶⁵ Everybody there was really surprised, and they told other people about everything that happened, and soon a lot of people in the hilly part of Judea country were talking about it.

⁶⁶ Everyone that heard the news thought about it, and they said, “What will this kid be, after he grows up?” They knew God’s power was with that boy.

⁶⁷ At that time, when Zechariah started talking again, the Holy Spirit came into him, and he told everyone a message from God. He said,

⁶⁸ “The God of us Israel mob, he is a great God. He has come now to save us, his people.

⁶⁹ He has sent us a very strong person to save us. You know about David, the boss that worked for God a long time ago, well this person is in David’s family.

⁷⁰ God promised this to us a long time ago, and he got his men to tell us this message.

⁶² And they made signes to his father how he wolde have him called.

⁶³ And he axed for wrytynge tables and wroote saying: his name is Iohn. And they marvelled all.

⁶⁴ And his mouthe was opened immediatly and his tonge also and he spake lawdynge God.

⁶⁵ And feare came on all the that dwelt nye vnto them. And all these sayinges were noysed abroade throughout all the hyll countre of Iurie

⁶⁶ and all they that herde the layde them vp in their hertes saying: What maner chylde shall this be? And the honde of the lorde was with him.

⁶⁷ And his father zacharias was filled with the holy goost and prophisyed sayinge:

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God of Israel for he hath visited and redemed his people.

⁶⁹ And hath reysed vp an horne of salvacion vnto vs in the housse of his servaunt David.

⁷⁰ Even as he promised by the mouth of his holy prophetes which were sens the worlde began

⁶² They made signs to his father as to how he wanted him to be named.

⁶³ His father asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” They all were astonished at this.

⁶⁴ Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was freed. He spoke and praised God.

⁶⁵ Fear came on all who lived around them. All these matters were spread throughout all the hill country of Judea.

⁶⁶ All who heard them stored them in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child become?” For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying,

⁶⁸ “Praised be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has come to help and he has accomplished redemption for his people.

⁶⁹ He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David

⁶³ He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.” They all marveled.

⁶⁴ And anon his mouth was opened, and his tongue, and he spake, and blessed God.

⁶⁵ And dread was made on all their neighbours, and all these words were published on all the mountains or all the hilly places of Judea.

⁶⁶ And all men that heard putted in their heart, and said, What manner child shall this be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And Zechariah, his father, was full-filled or filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, and said,

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited, and made redemption of his people.

⁶⁹ And he hath raised to us an horn of health, in the house of David, his child.

⁷⁰ As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, that were from the world.

⁶² And they beckoned to his father, what he would that he were called (or what he wanted him to be called).

⁶³ And he asking (for) a pointel (or And he asking for a stylus), wrote, saying, John is his name. And all men wondered.

⁶⁴ And anon his mouth was opened, and his tongue, and he spake, and blessed God. (And at once his mouth was opened, and his tongue, and he spoke, and blessed God.)

⁶⁵ And dread was made on all their neighbours (or And all their neighbours were filled with fearful reverence), and all these words were published on all the mountains or on all the hilly places of Judea.

⁶⁶ And all men that heard putted (it) in their heart(s), and said, What manner child shall this be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And Zacharias, his father, was full-filled with the Holy Ghost or was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, and said, (And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he prophesied, and said,)

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited, and made redemption of his people (or and made redemption for his people).

⁶⁹ And he hath raised to us an horn of health, in the house of David, his child. (He hath raised up for us a Deliverer of salvation, in the house of his servant David.)

⁷⁰ As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, that were from the world. (As he spoke by the mouths of his holy prophets, who lived long ago.)

⁶² And thei bikeneden to his fadir, what he wolde that he were clepid.

⁶³ And he axynge a poyntil, wroot, seiynge, Joon is his name.

⁶⁴ And alle men wondriden. And anoon his mouth was openyd, and his tunge, and he spak, and blesside God.

⁶⁵ And drede was maad on alle her neiyboris, and alle these wordis weren pupplischid on alle the mounteyns of Judee.

⁶⁶ And alle men that herden puttiden in her herte, and seiden, What maner child schal this be? For the hoond of the Lord was with hym.

⁶⁷ And Zacarie, his fadir, was fulfillid with the Hooli Goost, and prophesiede,

⁶⁸ and seide, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visitid, and maad redempcioun of his puple.

⁶⁹ And he hath rerid to vs an horn of heelthe in the hous of Dauid, his child.

⁷⁰ As he spak bi the mouth of hise hooli prophetis, that weren fro the world.

⁶² and they were making signs to his father, what he would wish him to be called,

⁶³ and having asked for a tablet, he wrote, saying, 'John is his name;' and they did all wonder;

⁶⁴ and his mouth was opened presently, and his tongue, and he was speaking, praising God.

⁶⁵ And fear came upon all those dwelling around them, and in all the hill-country of Judea were all these sayings spoken of,

⁶⁶ and all who heard did lay them up in their hearts, saying, 'What then shall this child be?' and the hand of the Lord was with him.

⁶⁷ And Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and did prophesy, saying,

⁶⁸ 'Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, Because He did look upon, And wrought redemption for His people,

⁶⁹ And did raise an horn of salvation to us, In the house of David His servant,

⁷⁰ As He spake by the mouth of His holy prophets, Which have been from the age;
