Luke 1:33-66 in American Standard Version (1901)

33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God.
36 And behold, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren.
37 For no word from God shall be void of power.
38 And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;
40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth.
41 And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit;
42 and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me?
44 For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 And blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a fulfilment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord.
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaid: For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is unto generations and generations On them that fear him.
51 He hath showed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.
52 He hath put down princes from their thrones, And hath exalted them of low degree.
53 The hungry he hath filled with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 He hath given help to Israel his servant, That he might remember mercy
55 (As he spake unto our fathers) Toward Abraham and his seed for ever.
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned unto her house.
57 Now Elisabeth’s time was fulfilled that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58 And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her.
59 And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62 And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
63 And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, blessing God.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judæa.
66 And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

Luke 1:33-66 in Translation for Translators

33 He will be the King of the Jews, the descendants MTY of your ancestor Jacob, forever. He will rule as king forever!”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “I am a virgin, so how can I have a baby?”
35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come to you; the power of God MTY/EUP will overshadow you and enable you to become pregnant. So the child you will bear will be completely set apart {give himself completely} to obey God, and he will be called { people will say that he is} ◄the Son of God/the man who is also God►.
36 I also need to tell you something else. Your cousin Elizabeth is very old, and it was thought { people said} that she could not bear any children. But she has been pregnant EUP for almost six months, and will bear a son!
37 You should not be surprised at that, because God can do everything!”
38 Then Mary said, “All right, I want to serve ◄the Lord/God►, so may what you (sg) have said about me come true!” Then the angel left her.
39 Very soon after that, Mary got ready and went quickly to a town in the highlands of Judea district where Zechariah lived.
40 She entered his house and greeted his wife Elizabeth.
41 As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary greet her, the baby moved inside Elizabeth's womb. The Holy Spirit took complete control of Elizabeth,
42 and she said loudly to Mary, “ God has blessed you more than he has blessed any other woman, and he has blessed the child you will bear!
43 ◄I am not worthy that God would allow you to visit me!/Why is God allowing you to visit me?► RHQ You will be the mother of my Lord!
44 I realize this because as soon as I heard you greet me, the baby inside my womb moved because he was so happy that you had come.
45 God is pleased with you because you believed that what ◄the Lord/God► told you would come true.”
46 Then Mary praised God by saying/singing: “O, how I SYN praise ◄the Lord/God►!
47 I am happy because God is the one who saves me.
48 I was only his lowly servant girl, but he did not forget me. So from now on, everyone will say that God was pleased with me,
49 because they will hear about the things that God MTY, the mighty one, has done for me. He MTY is awesome!
50 He acts mercifully toward all those who respect him.
51 He shows people that he MTY is very powerful. He scatters those who think proudly.
52 He does not let mighty kings rule MTY anymore, but he honors people who are oppressed (OR, humble).
53 He gives good things to eat to those who are hungry, but he sends away the rich people without giving them anything.
54 He promised to Abraham and all our other ancestors who descended from him that he would act mercifully toward them forever. And now he has remembered what he promised. So he has helped me and all the other people of MTY Israel who serve him.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months. Then she returned to her home.
57 When it was time for Elizabeth to give birth to her child, she bore a son.
58 Her neighbors and relatives heard how ◄the Lord/God► had greatly blessed her by enabling her to bear a child, so they were happy along with Elizabeth.
59 Seven days later they gathered together for the ceremony for circumcising the baby to show that he belonged to God. They wanted to give the baby the same name as his father, Zechariah..
60 But his mother said, “No, his name will not be Zechariah. His name will be John!”
61 So they said to her, “ John is not the name of any of your (dl) relatives, so you(dl) should not give him that name!”
62 Then they made motions with their hands to Zechariah, for him to indicate what name he wanted to be given {to give} to his son.
63 So he signaled that they should give him a tablet to write on. When they gave him one, he wrote on it, “His name is John.” All those who were there were surprised!
64 Immediately Zechariah was able to speak again MTY, and he praised God.
65 All their neighbors were amazed/awestruck! They told other people who lived all over the highlands of Judea about what had happened.
66 Everyone who heard about it kept thinking about it. They were saying, “We wonder what will this child do for God when he grows up RHQ!” They wondered that because from what had happened they were sure that God would be helping that child SYN in a powerful way.

Luke 1:33-66 in Bible in Basic English

33 He will have rule over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.
34 And Mary said to the angel, How may this be, because I have had no knowledge of a man?
35 And the angel in answer said to her, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will come to rest on you, and so that which will come to birth will be named holy, Son of God.
36 Even now Elisabeth, who is of your family, is to be a mother, though she is old: and this is the sixth month with her who was without children.
37 For there is nothing which God is not able to do.
38 And Mary said: I am the servant of the Lord; may it be to me as you say. And the angel went away.
39 Then Mary got up and went quickly into the high lands, to a town of Judah;
40 And went into the house of Zacharias and took Elisabeth in her arms.
41 And when the voice of Mary came to the ears of Elisabeth, the baby made a sudden move inside her; then Elisabeth was full of the Holy Spirit,
42 And she said with a loud voice: May blessing be on you among women, and a blessing on the child of your body.
43 How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me?
44 For, truly, when the sound of your voice came to my ears, the baby in my body made a sudden move for joy.
45 Happy will she be who had faith that the things which the Lord has said to her will be done.
46 And Mary said: My soul gives glory to God;
47 My spirit is glad in God my Saviour.
48 For he has had pity on his servant, though she is poor and lowly placed: and from this hour will all generations give witness to the blessing which has come to me.
49 For he who is strong has done great things for me; and holy is his name.
50 His mercy is for all generations in whom is the fear of him.
51 With his arm he has done acts of power; he has put to flight those who have pride in their hearts.
52 He has put down kings from their seats, lifting up on high the men of low degree.
53 Those who had no food he made full of good things; the men of wealth he sent away with nothing in their hands;
54 His help he has given to Israel, his servant, so that he might keep in mind his mercy to Abraham and his seed for ever,
55 As he gave his word to our fathers.
56 And Mary was with her for about three months and then went back to her house.
57 Now it was time for Elisabeth to give birth, and she had a son.
58 And it came to the ears of her neighbours and relations that the Lord had been very good to her, and they took part in her joy.
59 And on the eighth day they came to see to the circumcision of the child, and they would have given him the name of Zacharias, his father's name;
60 But his mother made answer and said, No, his name is John.
61 And they said, Not one of your relations has that name.
62 And they made signs to his father, to say what name was to be given to him.
63 And he sent for writing materials and put down: His name is John; and they were all surprised.
64 And straight away his mouth was open and his tongue was free and he gave praise to God.
65 And fear came on all those who were living round about them: and there was much talk about all these things in all the hill-country of Judaea.
66 And all who had word of them kept them in their minds and said, What will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for the ages, and of his kingdom there shall not be an end.
34 But Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
35 And the angel answering said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and power of the Highest overshadow thee, wherefore the holy thing also which shall be born shall be called Son of God.
36 And behold, Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her that was called barren:
37 for nothing shall be impossible with God.
38 And Mary said, Behold the bondmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 And Mary, rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah,
40 and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elizabeth.
41 And it came to pass, as Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 and cried out with a loud voice and said, Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For behold, as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped with joy in my womb.
45 And blessed is she that has believed, for there shall be a fulfilment of the things spoken to her from the Lord.
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,

52 He has put down rulers from thrones, and exalted the lowly.

56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her house.
57 But the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth that she should bring forth, and she gave birth to a son.

59 And it came to pass on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called it after the name of his father, Zacharias.
60 And his mother answering said, No; but he shall be called John.
61 And they said to her, There is no one among thy kinsfolk who is called by this name.
62 And they made signs to his father as to what he might wish it to be called.
63 And having asked for a writing-table, he wrote saying, John is his name. And they all wondered.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake, blessing God.
65 And fear came upon all who dwelt round about them; and in the whole hill-country of Judaea all these things were the subject of conversation.
66 And all who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then will this child be? And the Lord's hand was with him.

Luke 1:33-66 in The New Testament with Commentary

33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob into the ages; indeed, of His kingdom there will be no end!”
34 So Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 In answer the angel said to her: “Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will hover over you; precisely for this reason the holy One who is to be born will be called ‘Son of God’!
36 Furthermore, your relative Elizabeth, she has actually conceived a son in her old age and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren;
37 because any word spoken by God will be possible.”
38 So Mary said: “Yes, I am the Lord's slave! Let it happen to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
39 Then Mary quickly got ready and went into the hill country in those days, to a town of Judah,
40 and entered the house of Zacharias and saluted Elizabeth.
41 Well it happened that as Elizabeth heard Mary's salutation the babe bounced up and down in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with Holy Spirit.
42 And she cried out with a great voice and said: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the Fruit of your womb!
43 Why am I so favored that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 Yes indeed, because as the sound of your salutation came into my ears the babe bounced up and down in my womb for joy.
45 Blessed is she who believed, because there will be a fulfillment of the things that have been spoken to her from the Lord.”
46 So Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit has exulted over God my Savior,
48 in that He paid attention to the humble station of His slave (f). Yes indeed, because from now on all generations will declare me to be highly favored,
49 in that the Mighty One did sublime things for me, and Holy is His name.
50 His mercy is for generations of generations to those fearing Him.
51 He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has dispersed the arrogant in the reasoning of their hearts.
52 He has dethroned rulers and exalted the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has taken the part of His servant Israel, in remembrance of mercy,
55 just as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed while there is an age.”
56 So Mary stayed with her about three months, and returned to her house.
57 Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth was completed and she bore a son.
58 Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had used His great mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child, and they started calling him by the name of his father, Zacharias.
60 His mother reacted and said, “Absolutely not; he shall be called John!”
61 So they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”
62 So they started motioning to his father, as to what he would have him called.
63 Asking for a writing tablet he wrote this: “His name is to be John!” They all marveled.

33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never come to an end.”
34 “How is this possible?” Mary asked. “I'm still a virgin.”
35 He replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you. The baby who is to be born is holy, and will be called the Son of God.
36 And Elizabeth, your relative, even she is pregnant in her old age. The woman that people said couldn't have children is already six months pregnant.
37 Nothing is impossible for God.”
38 “Here I am, ready to be the Lord's servant,” said Mary. “May it happen to me just as you said.” Then the angel left her.
39 A little while later, Mary got herself ready and hurried up into the hills of Judea, to the town where
40 Zechariah's house was. She called out to Elizabeth as she went in.
41 As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's voice, the baby jumped for joy inside her. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 and cried out in a loud voice, “How blessed you are among women, and how blessed will be the child born to you!
43 Why am I so honored that the mother of my Lord should visit me?
44 As soon as I heard you call out in greeting, my baby jumped for joy inside me.
45 How fortunate you are, because you are convinced that the Lord will do what he has promised you!”
46 Mary replied, “How I praise the Lord!
47 I am so happy with God my Savior,
48 because he decided that I, his servant, was worthy of his consideration, despite my humble background. From now on every generation will say I was blessed.
49 God Almighty has done great things for me; his name is holy.
50 His mercy lasts for generation after generation to those who respect him.
51 With his power he has broken to pieces those who arrogantly think they're so clever.
52 He tears the powerful down from their thrones, and elevates those who are humble.
53 He fills the hungry with good things to eat, and he sends the rich away empty-handed.
54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering him in mercy,
55 just as he promised our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants for ever.”
56 Mary stayed with her for three months and then returned home.
57 The time came for Elizabeth to have her baby and she gave birth to a son.
58 Her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had showed her great kindness, and they celebrated together with her.
59 Eight days later they came to circumcise the boy. They planned to call him Zechariah after his father.
60 “No,” Elizabeth said. “He shall be called John.”
61 “But there's nobody among your relatives who has this name,” they told her.
62 Through gestures they asked Zechariah, the boy's father, what he wanted to call his son.
63 Zechariah motioned for something to write on. To everyone's surprise he wrote, “His name is John.”
64 Immediately he could speak again, and he started praising God.
65 All those living nearby were in awe at what had happened, and the news spread throughout the hill country of Judea.
66 Everyone who heard the news wondered what it meant. “What will the little boy grow up to be?” they asked, for it was clear he was very special to God.

43 But how have I this honour, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For, as soon as your greeting reached my ears, the child moved within me with delight!
45 Happy indeed is she who believed that the promise which she received from the Lord would be fulfilled.”
46 And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,
47 and my spirit delights in God my Saviour,
48 for he has looked with favour on his humble servant girl. From now on all generations will call me blessed!
49 “For the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

54 “He has stretched out his hand to his servant Israel, ever mindful of his mercy,

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months, and then returned to her home.
57 When Elizabeth's time came, she gave birth to a son;
58 and her neighbours and relatives, hearing of the great goodness of the Lord to her, came to share her joy.
59 A week later they met to circumcise the child, and were about to call him Zechariah after his father,
60 when his mother spoke up, “No, he is to be called John.”
61 “You have no relation of that name!” they exclaimed;
62 and they made signs to the child's father, to find out what he wished the child to be called.
63 Asking for a writing-tablet, he wrote the words — ‘His name is John.’ Everyone was surprised
64 and immediately Zechariah recovered his voice and the use of his tongue, and began to bless God.
65 All their neighbours were awe-struck at this, and throughout the hill-country of Judea the whole story was much talked about.
66 All who heard it kept it in mind, asking one another — “What can this child be destined to become?” For the Power of the Lord was with him.

Luke [White-light] 1 in One Unity Resource Bible

Luke 1:33-66 in Plain English Version

34 Mary said, “But I’m not married. How will I get a baby?”
35 Gabriel said, “The Holy Spirit will come to you, and God’s power will come over you and give you a baby. Your baby will be real special, and people will say he is God’s son.
36 And you know your cousin Elizabeth? Everyone reckoned she is too old to have a baby, but now she is carrying one inside her. She has been carrying it for the last 6 months, and soon she will have a baby.
37 You see, God can do anything. Nothing is too hard for him.”
38 Mary said, “All right then, I will do whatever God wants. I want everything to happen just like you have said.” Then Gabriel left her.
39 A few days later Mary got up and quickly went south to a town in the hilly part of the country called Judea.
40 Zechariah and Elizabeth lived in that town. Mary went to their house, and went in and said, “Hello cousin” to Elizabeth.
41 As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary say those words, she felt her baby jump inside her. And the Holy Spirit came into her,
42 and she talked really loud, she said, “God is really good to you, and he is making you happy. He is being more good to you than to any other woman. And he is being really good to your baby, too.
43 I’m not important, but you are the mother of my leader, the one from God. It is really good of you to visit me.
44 You see, as soon as I heard you say ‘hello,’ my baby inside me was so happy he jumped.
45 Yes, you believed that God will do everything he told you, and that makes you very happy.”
46 Mary said, “God is really good and really great. I feel that really deep inside myself, and I want to tell it to everybody.
47 God is the one that saves me, so my spirit is really happy.
48 God knew that I was not important, but he picked me, and now everyone will say that God has been good to me.
49 Yes, he is the really strong one, and he did great things for me. God is properly good, better than anyone else.
50 He is good to the people that respect him, and to their kids, and to their grand-kids, and to all their grand-kids to come.
51 He did great things with his power, to show everyone that he is really strong. Those people that reckoned they were smart and strong, they all got frightened of him, and they ran away.
52 He chucked out the big bosses and took their power away. But he got people that were not important, and he made them bosses.
53 And he gave hungry people good food, and they ate till they were full. But he didn’t give anything to the rich people. They went away with nothing.
54 He is sorry for his own people, us Israel mob, and he helps us,
55 just like he promised to our grand-father Abraham, and to our other grand-fathers of long ago. He said he will look after us for ever.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth about 3 months, then she went back to her own home.
57 Then the time came for Elizabeth to have her baby, and she had a son.
58 All her family, and the people that lived near her, they heard that she had a baby, and they knew that God had been very good to her. Elizabeth was happy, and they were all happy too.
59 When the baby was 8 days old, all those people came to Zechariah and Elizabeth’s place. The baby boy had to have a young man’s operation on that day, and they used to give a baby his name at that time. The people wanted to call him Zechariah, the same name that his father had.
60 But Elizabeth said, “No. His name is John.”
61 They said, “What? Nobody in your family has that name.”
62 So they made signs with their hands to his father, to ask him what name he wanted to give to the boy.
63 Zechariah made signs to get them to give him something to write on, then he wrote, “His name is John.” Everyone was shocked.
64 Then, straight away, Zechariah started to talk again, and he told everyone that God is very great.
65 Everybody there was really surprised, and they told other people about everything that happened, and soon a lot of people in the hilly part of Judea country were talking about it.
66 Everyone that heard the news thought about it, and they said, “What will this kid be, after he grows up?” They knew God’s power was with that boy.

33 And he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest will overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”
34 Miriam said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born from you will be called the Son of God.
36 Behold, Elisheva your relative also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
37 For nothing spoken by God is impossible.”
38 Miriam said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
39 Miriam arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah,
40 and entered into the house of Zechariah and greeted Elisheva.
41 When Elisheva heard Miriam’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elisheva was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 She called out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
43 Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!

61 They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”
62 They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
63 He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is Yochanan.” They all marveled.
64 His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.
65 Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.
66 All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.

Luke 1:33-66 in Young's Literal Translation

33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob to the ages; and of his reign there shall be no end.'
34 And Mary said unto the messenger, 'How shall this be, seeing a husband I do not know?'
35 And the messenger answering said to her, 'The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee, therefore also the holy-begotten thing shall be called Son of God;
36 and lo, Elisabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month to her who was called barren;
37 because nothing shall be impossible with God.'
38 And Mary said, 'Lo, the maid-servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to thy saying,' and the messenger went away from her.
39 And Mary having arisen in those days, went to the hill-country, with haste, to a city of Judea,
40 and entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
41 And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe did leap in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 and spake out with a loud voice, and said, 'Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb;
43 and whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord might come unto me?
44 for, lo, when the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, leap in gladness did the babe in my womb;
45 and happy is she who did believe, for there shall be a completion to the things spoken to her from the Lord.'
46 And Mary said, 'My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit was glad on God my Saviour,
48 Because He looked on the lowliness of His maid-servant, For, lo, henceforth call me happy shall all the generations,
49 For He who is mighty did to me great things, And holy is His name,
50 And His kindness is to generations of generations, To those fearing Him,
51 He did powerfully with His arm, He scattered abroad the proud in the thought of their heart,
52 He brought down the mighty from thrones, And He exalted the lowly,
53 The hungry He did fill with good, And the rich He sent away empty,
54 He received again Israel His servant, To remember kindness,
55 As He spake unto our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed — to the age.'
56 And Mary remained with her about three months, and turned back to her house.
57 And to Elisabeth was the time fulfilled for her bringing forth, and she bare a son,
58 and the neighbours and her kindred heard that the Lord was making His kindness great with her, and they were rejoicing with her.
59 And it came to pass, on the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child, and they were calling him by the name of his father, Zacharias,
60 and his mother answering said, 'No, but he shall be called John.'
61 And they said unto her — 'There is none among thy kindred who is called by this name,'
62 and they were making signs to his father, what he would wish him to be called,
63 and having asked for a tablet, he wrote, saying, 'John is his name;' and they did all wonder;
64 and his mouth was opened presently, and his tongue, and he was speaking, praising God.
65 And fear came upon all those dwelling around them, and in all the hill-country of Judea were all these sayings spoken of,
66 and all who heard did lay them up in their hearts, saying, 'What then shall this child be?' and the hand of the Lord was with him.
