Luke 19:5-40 in English

⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house.

⁶ And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner.

⁸ And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹³ And he called ten servants of his, and gave them ten pounds, and said unto them, Trade ye herewith till I come.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.

¹⁵ And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.

¹⁶ And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more.

¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds.

¹⁹ And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities.

²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin:

²¹ for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow.

²² He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow;

²³ then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest?

²⁴ And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds.

²⁵ And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.

²⁶ I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.

²⁷ But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

²⁸ And when he had thus spoken, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples,

³⁰ saying, Go your way into the village over against you; in which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him.

³¹ And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him.

³² And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them.

³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

³⁴ And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon.

³⁶ And as he went, they spread their garments in the way.

³⁷ And as he was now drawing nigh, even at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen;

³⁸ saying, Blessed is the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples.

⁴⁰ And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

⁵ When Jesus got there, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, because God wants me to go with you(sg) to your house and stay there tonight”!

⁶ So he came down quickly. He took Jesus to his house and welcomed him joyfully.

⁷ The people who saw Jesus go there grumbled saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner!”

⁸ Then Zacchaeus stood up while they were eating and said to the Lord Jesus, “Lord, I want you (sg) to know that I am going to give half of what I own to poor people. And as for the people whom I have cheated, I will pay them back four times the amount I have gotten from them by cheating.”

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Today God has forgiven PRS you and the other people in MTY this house, because you (sg) also have shown that you have trusted in God as your ancestor Abraham did.

¹⁰ Remember this: I, the one who came from heaven, came to seek and save people like you(sg) who have gone astray from God, just like a shepherd who searches for his lost sheep.”

¹¹ They were coming near to Jerusalem, and the people who were going with Jesus who heard him say these things thought that as soon as he got to Jerusalem he would become their king.

¹² So he told them this parable: “A prince prepared to go to a distant country in order that the Emperor would make him a king. He intended to return later.

¹³ Before he left, he summoned ten of his servants. He gave each of them a coin worth three months' wages. He said to them, ‘Do business with these coins until I return!’ Then he left.

¹⁴ But many of his fellow-citizens hated him. So after he left they sent some messengers to tell the Emperor, ‘We (exc) do not want this man to be our king!’

¹⁵ But the Emperor made him king anyway. Later the new king returned. Then he commanded that the servants to whom he had given the coins should be summoned {that someone should summon the servants to whom he had given the coins}. He wanted to know how much they had gained by doing business with the coins.

¹⁶ The first man came to him and said, ‘Sir, with your one coin I have earned ten more coins!’

¹⁷ He said to this man, ‘ You are a good servant! You have done very well! Because you have handled faithfully a small amount of money, I will give you authority to rule ten cities.’

¹⁸ Then the second servant came and said, ‘Sir, with your one coin I have earned five more coins!’

¹⁹ He said to that servant similarly, ‘ Good! I will give you authority to rule five cities.’

²⁰ Then another servant came. He said, ‘Sir, here is your coin. I wrapped it in a napkin and put it away, so that nothing would happen to it.

²¹ I did that because I was afraid of what you would do to me if the business failed. I know you are a man who does not do foolish things with your money. You even take from others money that does not really belong to you, like a farmer who harvests grain from another man's field where he did not even do the planting.’

²² The king said to that servant, ‘You wicked servant! I will condemn you by the very words MTY that you have just now spoken. ◄You know that I do not do foolish things with my money./Did you not know that I do not do foolish things with my money?► RHQ You said that I even take from others money that does not really belong to me, like a farmer who harvests grain from another man's field where he did not even do the planting.

²³ So ◄you should at least have given my money to money lenders!/why did you not at least give my money to bankers?► RHQ Then when I returned I could have collected that amount plus the interest it would have earned!’

²⁴ Then the king said to those who were standing near, ‘Take the coin from him and give it to the servant who has ten coins!’

²⁵ They protested, ‘But Sir, he already has ten coins!’

²⁶ But the king said, ‘I tell you this: To the people who use well what they have received, more will be given { I will give more}. But from the people who do not use well what they have received, even what they already have will be taken away { I will take away even what they already have}.

²⁷ Now, as for those enemies of mine who did not want me to rule over them, bring them here and execute them while I am watching!’”

²⁸ After Jesus said those things, he continued on the road up to Jerusalem, going ahead of his disciples.

²⁹ When they got near Bethphage and Bethany villages, near the hill that is called {that they call} Olive Tree Hill,

³⁰ he said to two of his disciples, “Go to the village just ahead of you. As you two enter it, you will see a young animal that no one has ever ridden, that has been {someone has} tied up. Untie it and bring it to me.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say to him, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² So the two disciples went to the village and found the animal, just like he had told them.

³³ As they were untying it, its owners said to them, “Why are you two untying that young animal?”

³⁴ They replied, “The Lord needs it.” So the owners said that they could take it.

³⁵ The two disciples brought the animal to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the animal's back for him to sit on and helped Jesus get on it.

³⁶ Then as he rode along, others spread their cloaks on the road to honor him.

³⁷ As they came near to Jerusalem, on the road that descends from Olive Tree Hill, the whole crowd of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God loudly for all the great miracles that they had seen Jesus do.

³⁸ They were saying things like, “May the Lord God bless our king who comes representing MTY him!” “May there be peace between God in heaven and us his people!” “May everyone praise God!”

³⁹ Some of the Pharisees who were in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples for saying things like that!”

⁴⁰ He replied, “I tell you this: If these people would be silent, the stones themselves would shout to praise me!”

⁵ When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

⁶ He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully.

⁷ When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.”

⁸ Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.”

¹⁵ “When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’

¹⁷ “He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

¹⁸ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.’

¹⁹ “So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

²⁰ Another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

²¹ for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

²² “He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down and reaping that which I didn’t sow.

²³ Then why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?’

²⁴ He said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.’

²⁵ “They said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’

²⁶ ‘For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

²⁸ Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ When he came near to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ saying, “Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, which no man has ever sat upon. Untie it and bring it.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say to him: ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² Those who were sent went away and found things just as he had told them.

³³ As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

³⁴ They said, “The Lord needs it.”

³⁵ Then they brought it to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the colt and sat Jesus on them.

¹⁸ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.’

¹⁹ “So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

²⁰ Another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

²¹ for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

²² “He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down and reaping that which I didn’t sow.

²³ Then why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?’

²⁴ He said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.’

²⁵ “They said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’

²⁶ ‘For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

²⁸ Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ When he came near to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ saying, “Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, which no man has ever sat upon. Untie it and bring it.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say to him: ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² Those who were sent went away and found things just as he had told them.

³³ As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

³⁴ They said, “The Lord needs it.”

³⁵ Then they brought it to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the colt and sat Jesus on them.

³⁶ As he went, they spread their cloaks on the road.

³⁷ As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen,

³⁸ saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!”

³⁹ Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

⁴⁰ He answered them, “I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out.”

⁵ When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

⁶ He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully.

⁷ When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.”

⁸ Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.”

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.”

¹¹ As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that God’s Kingdom would be revealed immediately.

¹² He said therefore, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

¹³ He called ten servants of his and gave them ten mina coins, and told them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

¹⁵ “When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’

¹⁷ “He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

¹⁸ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.’

⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, looking up, he said to him, Zacchaeus, be quick and come down, for I am coming to your house today.

⁶ And he came down quickly, and took him into his house with joy.

⁷ And when they saw it, they were all angry, saying, He has gone into the house of a sinner.

⁸ And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much.

⁹ And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour.

¹¹ And while they were giving ear to these words, he made another story for them, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they were of the opinion that the kingdom of God was coming straight away.

¹² So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back.

¹³ And he sent for ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds and said to them, Do business with this till I come.

¹⁴ But his people had no love for him, and sent representatives after him, saying, We will not have this man for our ruler.

¹⁵ And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done.

¹⁶ And the first came before him, saying, Lord, your pound has made ten pounds.

¹⁷ And he said to him, You have done well, O good servant: because you have done well in a small thing you will have authority over ten towns.

¹⁸ And another came, saying, Your pound has made five pounds.

¹⁹ And he said, You will be ruler over five towns.

²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, here is your pound, which I put away in a cloth;

²¹ Because I was in fear of you, for you are a hard man: you take up what you have not put down, and get in grain where you have not put seed.

²² He said to him, By the words of your mouth you will be judged, you bad servant. You had knowledge that I am a hard man, taking up what I have not put down and getting in grain where I have not put seed;

²³ Why then did you not put my money in a bank, so that when I came I would get it back with interest?

²⁴ And he said to the others who were near, Take the pound away from him, and give it to the man who has ten.

²⁵ And they say to him, Lord, he has ten pounds.

²⁶ And I say to you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

²⁷ And as for those who were against me, who would not have me for their ruler, let them come here, and be put to death before me.

²⁸ And when he had said this, he went on in front of them, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it came about that when he got near Beth-phage and Bethany by the mountain which is named the Mountain of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,

³⁰ Saying, Go into the little town in front of you, and on going in you will see a young ass fixed with a cord, on which no man has ever been seated; let him loose and take him.

³¹ And if anyone says to you, Why are you taking him? say, The Lord has need of him.

³² And those whom he sent went away, and it was as he said.

³³ And when they were getting the young ass, the owners of it said to them, Why are you taking the young ass?

³⁴ And they said, The Lord has need of him.

³⁵ And they took him to Jesus, and they put their clothing on the ass, and Jesus got on to him.

³⁶ And while he went on his way they put their clothing down on the road in front of him.

³⁷ And when he came near the foot of the Mountain of Olives, all the disciples with loud voices gave praise to God with joy, because of all the great works which they had seen;

³⁸ Saying, A blessing on the King who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees among the people said to him, Master, make your disciples be quiet.

⁴⁰ And he said in answer, I say to you, if these men keep quiet, the very stones will be crying out.

⁵ And when he came up to the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for to-day I must remain in thy house.

⁶ And he made haste and came down, and received him with joy.

⁷ And all murmured when they saw it, saying, He has turned in to lodge with a sinful man.

⁸ But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I return him fourfold.

⁹ And Jesus said to him, To-day salvation is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;

¹⁰ for the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost.

¹¹ But as they were listening to these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was about to be immediately manifested.

¹² He said therefore, A certain high-born man went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and return.

¹³ And having called his own ten bondmen, he gave to them ten minas, and said to them, Trade while I am coming.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not that this man should reign over us.

¹⁵ And it came to pass on his arrival back again, having received the kingdom, that he desired these bondmen to whom he gave the money to be called to him, in order that he might know what every one had gained by trading.

¹⁶ And the first came up, saying, My Lord, thy mina has produced ten minas.

¹⁷ And he said to him, Well done, thou good bondman; because thou hast been faithful in that which is least, be thou in authority over ten cities.

¹⁸ And the second came, saying, My Lord, thy mina has made five minas.

¹⁹ And he said also to this one, And thou, be over five cities.

²⁰ And another came, saying, My Lord, lo, there is thy mina, which I have kept laid up in a towel.

²¹ For I feared thee because thou art a harsh man: thou takest up what thou hast not laid down, and thou reapest what thou hast not sowed.

²² He says to him, Out of thy mouth will I judge thee, wicked bondman: thou knewest that I am a harsh man, taking up what I have not laid down and reaping what I have not sowed.

²³ And why didst thou not give my money to the bank; and I should have received it, at my coming, with interest?

²⁴ And he said to those that stood by, Take from him the mina and give it to him who has the ten minas.

²⁵ And they said to him, Lord, he has ten minas.

³³ And as they were loosing the colt, its masters said to them, Why loose ye the colt?

³⁴ And they said, Because the Lord has need of it.

³⁵ And they led it to Jesus; and having cast their own garments on the colt, they put Jesus on it.

³⁶ And as he went, they strewed their clothes in the way.

³⁷ And as he drew near, already at the descent of the mount of Olives, all the multitude of the disciples began, rejoicing, to praise God with a loud voice for all the works of power which they had seen,

³⁸ saying, Blessed the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples.

⁴⁰ And he answering said to them, I say unto you, If these shall be silent, the stones will cry out.

⁵ And when Jesus was come to the place, looking up, he saw him, and said to him: Zacheus, make haste and come down; for this day I must abide in thy house.

⁶ And he made haste and came down; and received him with joy.

⁷ And when all saw it, they murmured, saying, that he was gone to be a guest with a man that was a sinner.

⁸ But Zacheus standing, said to the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wronged any man of any thing, I restore him fourfold.

⁹ Jesus said to him: This day is salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹¹ As they were hearing these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately be manifested.

¹² He said therefore: A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹³ And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and said to them: Trade till I come.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him: and they sent an embassage after him, saying: We will not have this man to reign over us.

²² He saith to him: Out of thy own mouth I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow:

²³ And why then didst thou not give my money into the bank, that at my coming, I might have exacted it with usury?

²⁴ And he said to them that stood by: Take the pound away from him, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

²⁵ And they said to him: Lord, he hath ten pounds.

²⁶ But I say to you, that to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: and from him that hath not, even that which he hath, shall be taken from him.

²⁷ But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither, and kill them before me.

³¹ And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? you shall say thus unto him: Because the Lord hath need of his service.

³² And they that were sent, went their way, and found the colt standing, as he had said unto them.

³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said to them: Why loose you the colt?

³⁴ But they said: Because the Lord hath need of him.

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they set Jesus thereon.

³⁶ And as he went, they spread their clothes underneath in the way.

³⁷ And when he was now coming near the descent of mount Olivet, the whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works they had seen,

³⁸ Saying: Blessed be the king who cometh in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high!

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees, from amongst the multitude, said to him: Master, rebuke thy disciples.

⁴⁰ To whom he said: I say to you, that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

⁵ And when He came upon that place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay in your house.”

⁶ So he hurried and came down, and received Him, rejoicing.

⁷ But when they saw it, they all were complaining, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a sinner.”

⁸ Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor; and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I restore fourfold.”

⁹ And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;

¹⁰ for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

¹¹ Now as they heard these things, He told another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately.

²⁷ Nevertheless bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’ ”

²⁸ And having said these things, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

³² So those who were sent departed and found it just as He told them.

³³ But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?”

³⁴ And they said, “The Lord has need of him.”

³⁵ Then they brought him to Jesus. And when they threw their own clothes on the colt, they set Jesus on him.

³⁶ And as He went, they were spreading their clothes under Him on the road.

³⁷ And as He was approaching the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen,

³⁸ saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees said to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

⁴⁰ But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

⁹ So Jesus said about him, “Today salvation has happened in this house, in that he also is a son of Abraham;

¹⁰ because the Son of the Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

¹¹ Now as they heard these things, He continued with a parable, because He was near Jerusalem and they were supposing that the Kingdom of God was on the verge of being revealed.

¹² So He said: “A certain nobleman went to a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom and return.

¹³ He called ten of his slaves, gave them ten ‘minas’, and said to them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

¹⁵ It happened that he did receive the kingdom, and upon returning he ordered that those slaves to whom he had given the money be called to him, to know who had gained what by trading.

¹⁶ So the first one came and said, ‘Master, your mina earned ten minas!’

¹⁷ He said to him: ‘Super, you good slave! Because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities!’

¹⁸ And the second one came and said, ‘Master, your mina made five minas.’

¹⁹ Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’

²⁰ Then a different one came, saying: ‘Master, here is your mina, that I kept laid away in a piece of cloth

²¹ —I feared you because you are a hard man, removing what you did not place, and reaping what you did not sow.’

²² So he said to him: ‘I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked slave! You knew that I am a hard man, removing what I did not place, and reaping what I did not sow.

²³ Why then didn't you put my money on deposit, and upon coming I would have collected it with interest?’

²⁴ And to those standing by he said, ‘Take the mina from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.’

²⁵ (They even said to him, ‘Master, he already has ten minas!’)

²⁶ ‘Indeed I tell you, to everyone who has, more will be given; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

²⁷ But as for those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’ ”

²⁸ Having said these things, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

⁵ When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly! I need to stay at your house today.”

⁶ Zacchaeus climbed down quickly and was so happy to welcome Jesus to his home.

⁷ When the people saw this they all complained, “He's gone to stay with such a sinner!”

⁸ But Zacchaeus stood up and said before the Lord, “Look, I'm giving half of everything I own to the poor, and if I've cheated anybody, I'll pay them back four times as much!”

⁹ In response Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man has shown he is a son of Abraham too.

¹⁰ For the Son of man came to search for and save those who are lost.”

¹¹ While they were still paying attention, Jesus told them a story for they were close to Jerusalem and the people thought that God's kingdom was going to become a reality right away.

¹² “Once there was a nobleman who left home to go to a distant country to be crowned king there, and then to return.

¹³ He called ten of his servants, divided money equally among them, and told them, ‘Invest this money until I return.’

¹⁴ But his people hated him, and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We won't have this man as king over us.’

¹⁵ After he had been crowned king he returned. He ordered his servants brought to him. He wanted to know what profit they had made by investing the money he had given them.

¹⁶ The first servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned ten times as much.’

¹⁷ ‘Well done! You're a good servant,’ said the king. ‘Since you proved yourself trustworthy in a very small matter, I'm placing you in charge of ten cities.’

¹⁸ The second servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned five times as much.’

¹⁹ ‘I'm placing you in charge of five cities,’ said the king.

²⁰ Another servant came in and said, ‘Lord, look, here's your money back. I kept it safe, wrapped up in a cloth.

²¹ I was afraid of you because you're a hard man. You take what doesn't belong to you, and you harvest what you didn't plant.’

²² ‘I'll judge you by your own words,’ the king replied. ‘You know I'm a hard man, who as you say, takes what doesn't belong to me, and I harvest what I didn't plant.

²³ Why then didn't you deposit my money in the bank, so that when I returned I could have had my money with interest?’

²⁴ The king told those who were standing beside him, ‘Take the money away from him, and give it to the one who made ten times as much.’

²⁵ ‘But master, he already has ten times as much,’ they replied.

²⁶ The king said, ‘I tell you, to those who have, more will be given; but those who do not have, even what they have will be taken away from them.

²⁷ And as for my enemies who didn't want me to be king over them, bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”

²⁸ After he'd finished telling them this story, Jesus left for Jerusalem, walking on ahead.

²⁹ As he approached Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples, telling them:

³⁰ “Go to the village farther on. As you enter it you'll find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² So the two disciples went and found that everything was just as Jesus had said.

³³ As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

³⁴ The disciples replied, “The Lord needs it.”

³⁵ They brought the colt to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks over it, and sat Jesus on its back.

³⁶ As he rode along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

³⁷ As he approached Jerusalem, right where the road goes down from the Mount of Olives, the crowd of disciples all began shouting joyful praises to God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.

³⁸ “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord,” they shouted. “Peace in heaven and glory in highest heaven.”

³⁹ Some of the Pharisees who were in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, stop your disciples from saying that.”

⁴⁰ But Jesus replied, “I tell you that if they kept quiet then the stones will shout!”

⁵ And when Iesus came to the place, he looked vp, and saw him, and said vnto him, Zaccheus, come downe at once: for to day I must abide at thine house.

⁶ Then he came downe hastily, and receiued him ioyfully.

⁷ And when all they sawe it, they murmured, saying, that hee was gone in to lodge with a sinfull man.

⁸ And Zaccheus stood forth, and said vnto the Lord, Beholde, Lord, the halfe of my goods I giue to the poore: and if I haue taken from any man by forged cauillation, I restore him foure folde.

⁹ Then Iesus said to him, This day is saluation come vnto this house, forasmuch as hee is also become the sonne of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the Sonne of man is come to seeke, and to saue that which was lost.

¹¹ And whiles they heard these thinges, hee continued and spake a parable, because hee was neere to Hierusalem, and because also they thought that the kingdom of God should shortly appeare.

¹² He saide therefore, A certaine noble man went into a farre countrey, to receiue for himselfe a kingdome, and so to come againe.

¹³ And he called his ten seruants, and deliuered them ten pieces of money, and sayd vnto them, Occupie till I come.

¹⁴ Nowe his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not haue this man to reigne ouer vs.

¹⁵ And it came to passe, when hee was come againe, and had receiued his kingdome, that he commanded the seruants to be called to him, to whome he gaue his money, that he might knowe what euery man had gained.

¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy piece hath encreased ten pieces.

¹⁷ And he sayd vnto him, Well, good seruant: because thou hast bene faithfull in a very litle thing, take thou authoritie ouer ten cities.

¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, thy piece hath encreased fiue pieces.

¹⁹ And to the same he sayd, Be thou also ruler ouer fiue cities.

²⁰ So the other came, and sayd, Lord, beholde thy piece, which I haue laide vp in a napkin:

²¹ For I feared thee, because thou art a straight man: thou takest vp, that thou layedst not downe, and reapest that thou diddest not sowe.

²² Then he sayde vnto him, Of thine owne mouth will I iudge thee, O euill seruant. Thou knewest that I am a straight man, taking vp that I layd not downe, and reaping that I did not sowe.

²³ Wherefore then gauest not thou my money into the banke, that at my coming I might haue required it with vantage?

²⁴ And he sayd to them that stoode by, Take from him that piece, and giue it him that hath ten pieces.

²⁵ (And they sayd vnto him, Lord, hee hath ten pieces.)

²⁶ For I say vnto you, that vnto all them that haue, it shalbe giuen: and from him that hath not, euen that he hath, shalbe taken from him.

²⁷ Moreouer, those mine enemies, which would not that I should reigne ouer them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

²⁸ And when he had thus spoken, he went forth before, ascending vp to Hierusalem.

²⁹ And it came to passe, when hee was come neere to Bethphage, and Bethania, besides the mount which is called the mount of Oliues, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ Saying, Goe ye to the towne which is before you, wherein, assoone as ye are come, ye shall finde a colte tied, whereon neuer man sate: loose him, and bring him hither.

³¹ And if any man aske you, why ye loose him, thus shall ye say vnto him, Because the Lord hath neede of him.

³² So they that were sent, went their way, and found it as he had sayd vnto them.

³³ And as they were loosing the colte, the owners thereof sayd vnto them, Why loose ye the colte?

³⁴ And they sayd, The Lord hath neede of him.

³⁵ So they brought him to Iesus, and they cast their garments on the colte, and set Iesus thereon.

³⁶ And as he went, they spred their clothes in the way.

³⁷ And when he was nowe come neere to the going downe of the mount of Oliues, the whole multitude of the disciples began to reioyce, and to prayse God with a loude voyce, for all the great workes that they had seene,

³⁸ Saying, Blessed be the King that commeth in the Name of the Lord: peace in heauen, and glory in the highest places.

³⁹ Then some of the Pharises of the companie sayd vnto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

⁴⁰ But he answered, and sayd vnto them, I tell you, that if these should holde their peace, the stones would crie.

⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zaccheus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

⁶ And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

⁸ And Zaccheus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

²² And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

²³ wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

²⁴ And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

²⁵ (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

²⁶ For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

¹⁰ The Son of Man has come to search for those who are lost and to save them.”

¹¹ As the people were listening to this, Jesus went on to tell them a parable. He did so because he was near Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to be proclaimed at once.

¹³ He called ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds of silver each, and told them to trade with them during his absence.

¹⁴ But his subjects hated him and sent envoys after him to say ‘We will not have this man as our king.’

¹⁵ On his return, after having been appointed king, he directed that the servants to whom he had given his money should be summoned, so that he might learn what amount of trade they had done.

¹⁶ The first came up, and said ‘Sir, your ten pounds have made a hundred.’

¹⁷ ‘Well done, good servant!’ exclaimed the master. ‘As you have proved trustworthy in a very small matter, I appoint you governor over ten towns.’

¹⁸ When the second came, he said ‘Your ten pounds, Sir, have produced fifty.’

¹⁹ So the master said to him ‘And you I appoint over five towns.’

²⁰ Another servant also came and said ‘Sir, here are your ten pounds; I have kept them put away in a handkerchief.

²¹ For I was afraid of you, because you are a stern man. You take what you have not planted, and reap what you have not sown.’

²² The master answered ‘Out of your own mouth I judge you, you worthless servant. You knew that I am a stern man, that I take what I have not planted, and reap what I have not sown?

²³ Then why didn't you put my money into a bank? And I, on my return, could have claimed it with interest.

⁹ Yeshua Salvation said to him, “Today, yishu'ah ·salvation· has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham Father of a multitude.

¹⁰ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.”

¹¹ As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem City of peace, and they supposed that God’s Kingdom would be revealed immediately.

¹² He said therefore, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to teshuvah ·completely return·.

¹³ He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten mina 500 sheckles; 12.5 lb; 5.67 kg coins, and told them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

¹⁵ “When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina 50 sheckles; 1.25 lb; 0.57 kg has made ten more minas 500 sheckles; 12.5 lb; 5.67 kg.’

¹⁷ “He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

¹⁸ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina 50 sheckles; 1.25 lb; 0.57 kg, Lord, has made five minas 250 sheckles; 6.25 lb; 2.835 kg.’

¹⁹ “So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

²⁰ Another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold, your mina 50 sheckles; 1.25 lb; 0.57 kg, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

²¹ for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

²² “He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down, and reaping that which I didn’t sow.

²³ Then why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?’

²⁴ He said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina 50 sheckles; 1.25 lb; 0.57 kg away from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas 500 sheckles; 12.5 lb; 5.67 kg.’

²⁵ “They said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’

²⁶ ‘For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who does not have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

²⁸ Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem City of peace.

²⁹ When he came near to Bethsphage and Bethany House of affliction, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ saying, “Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat. Untie it, and bring it.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say to him: ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² Those who were sent went away, and found things just as he had told them.

³³ As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

³⁴ They said, “The Lord needs it.”

³⁵ They brought it to Yeshua Salvation. They threw their cloaks on the colt, and set Yeshua Salvation on them.

³⁶ As he went, they spread their cloaks on the road.

³⁷ As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen,

³⁸ saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of MarYah Master Yahweh! Shalom ·Complete peace· in heaven, and glory in the highest places!”

³⁹ Some of the Pharisees Separated from the multitude said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

⁴⁰ He answered them, “I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out.”

⁵ When Jesus came to that tree he looked up and saw Zacchaeus, and said to him, “Hey, Zacchaeus. You come down right now, and hurry. I want to go and stay at your house today.”

⁶ Then Zacchaeus was very happy, and he came down quickly, and he took Jesus to his house.

⁷ But when the other people saw this they got upset with Jesus. They said, “Look. He goes and stays with bad people. He shouldn’t do that.”

⁸ But later, at his house, Zacchaeus stood up and said to Jesus, “Look, Sir, this is what I am going to do now. I am going to split up all the things I own into 2 heaps, and I will give one heap away to poor people. And I’m also going to give back to those people that I cheated. I am going to give them back 4 times as much as I took from them.”

⁹ Then Jesus told everybody there, “God saved this man right now, today. And he saved everybody at his place, too. You see, this man is one of God’s people now, just like Abraham, because he believes in me just like Abraham believed in God.

¹⁰ You see, I am God’s special man from heaven, and I came to earth to look for people who went wrong and got lost, so that I can save them.”

⁵ And when Iesus cam to the place he loked vp and sawe him and sayd vnto him: zache attonce come doune for to daye I must abyde at thy housse.

⁶ And he came doune hastelye and receaved him ioyfully.

⁷ And when they sawe that they all groudged sayinge: He is gone in to tary with a man that is a synner.

⁸ And zache stode forth and sayd vnto the Lorde: beholde Lorde the haulfe of my gooddes I geve to the povre and if I have done eny man wronge I will restore him fower folde.

⁹ And Iesus sayd to him: this daye is healthe come vnto this housse for as moche as it also is become the chylde of Abraham.

¹⁰ For the sonne of man is come to seke and to save that which was looste.

¹¹ As they hearde these thinges he added ther to a similitude be cause he was nye to Hierusalem and because also they thought that the kyngdome of God shuld shortely appere.

¹² He sayde therfore: a certayne noble man wet into a farre countre to receave him a kyngdome and then to come agayne.

¹³ And he called his ten servauntes and delyvered them ten pounde sayinge vnto them: by and sell till I come.

¹⁴ But his citesens hated him and sent messengers after him sayinge: We will not have this man to raygne over vs.

¹⁵ And it came to passe when he was come agayne and had receaved his kyngdome he commaunded these servautes to be called to him (to whom he gave his money) to witt what every man had done.

²² And he sayde vnto him: Of thine awne mouth iudge I the thou evyll servaunt. knewest thou that I am a strayte man takinge vp that I layde not doune and repinge that I dyd not sowe?

²³ Wherfore then gavest not thou my money into the banke that at my cominge I might have required myne awne with vauntage?

¹² He said therefore, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then to return.

¹³ He called ten of his servants, and gave them ten minas, and said to them, 'Conduct business until I come back.'

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We will not have this man rule over us.'

¹⁵ It happened when he came back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded the servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what profit they had made by doing business.

¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, 'Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.'

¹⁷ The nobleman said to him, 'Well done, good servant. Because you were faithful in very little, you will have authority over ten cities.'

¹⁸ The second came, saying, 'Your mina, lord, has made five minas.'

¹⁹ The nobleman said to him, 'You take charge over five cities.'

²⁰ Another came, saying, 'Lord, here is your mina, which I kept safely in a cloth,

²¹ for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding person. You take up what you did not put in, and you reap what you did not sow.'

²² The nobleman said to him, 'By your own words I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I am a demanding person, that I take up what I did not put in, and that I reaped what I did not sow.

²³ Then why did you not put my money in the bank, so that when I returned I would have collected it with interest?'

²⁴ The nobleman said to them that stood by, 'Take away from him the mina, and give it to him that has the ten minas.'

²⁵ They said to him, 'Lord, he has ten minas.'

²⁶ 'I say to you, that everyone who has will be given more, but from him that has not, even that which he has will be taken away.

²⁷ But these enemies of mine, those who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and kill them before me.'”

²⁸ When he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ It came about that when he came near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the hill that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples,

³⁰ saying, “Go into the next village. As you enter, you will find a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it to me.

¹¹ As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that God’s Kingdom would be revealed immediately.

¹² He said therefore, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

¹³ He called ten servants of his and gave them ten mina coins, and told them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

¹⁵ “When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

¹⁶ The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’

¹⁷ “He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

¹⁸ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.’

¹⁹ “So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

²⁰ Another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

²¹ for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

²² “He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down and reaping that which I didn’t sow.

²³ Then why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?’

²⁴ He said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.’

²⁵ “They said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’

²⁶ ‘For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

²⁸ Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ When he came near to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ saying, “Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, which no man has ever sat upon. Untie it and bring it.

³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say to him: ‘The Lord needs it.’”

³² Those who were sent went away and found things just as he had told them.

³³ As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

³⁴ They said, “The Lord needs it.”

³⁵ Then they brought it to Yeshua. They threw their cloaks on the colt and sat Yeshua on them.

³⁶ As he went, they spread their cloaks on the road.

³⁷ As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen,

³⁸ saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!”

³⁹ Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, “Rabbi, rebuke your disciples!”

⁴⁰ He answered them, “I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out.”

⁵ And Jesus beheld up, when he came to the place, and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, haste thee, and come down, for today I must dwell in thine house.

⁶ And he hieing or hasting came down, and joyingly received him.

⁷ And when all men saw, they grutched, saying, For he had turned to a sinful man.

⁸ But Zacchaeus stood, and said to the Lord, Lo! Lord, I give the half of my goods to poor men; and if I have anything defrauded any man, I yield four so much or fourfold.

⁹ Jesus saith to him, For today health is made to this house, for that he is Abraham’s son;

¹⁰ for man’s Son came to seek, and make safe that thing that perished.

¹¹ When they heard these things, he added, and said a parable, for that he was nigh to Jerusalem, and for they guessed, that anon the kingdom of God should be showed.

¹² Therefore he said, A worthy man or Some noble man went into a far country, to take to him a kingdom, and to turn again.

¹³ And when his ten servants were called, he gave to them ten bezants; and said to them, Chaffer or Merchandize ye, till I come.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a messenger after him, and said, We will not, that he reign on us.

¹⁵ And it was done, that he turned again, when he had taken the kingdom; and he commanded his servants to be called, to which he had given money, to know, how much each had won by chaffering.

¹⁶ And the first came, and said, Lord, thy bezant hath won ten bezants.

¹⁷ He said to him, Well be, thou good servant; for in little thing thou hast been true, thou shalt be having or have power on ten cities.

¹⁸ And the tother came, and said, Lord, thy bezant hath made five bezants.

¹⁹ And to this he said, And be thou on five cities.

²⁰ And the third came, and said, Lord, lo! thy bezant, that I had, put up or kept in a sudarium, or sweating cloth.

²¹ For I dreaded thee, for thou art an austere man; thou takest away that that thou settedest not, and thou reapest that that thou hast not sown.

²² He saith to him, Wicked servant, of thy mouth I deem thee. Knewest thou, that I am an austere man, taking away that thing that I setted not, and reaping that thing that I sowed not? or I have not sown?

²³ and why hast thou not given my money to the board, and I coming should have asked it or should have received it with usuries?

²⁴ And he said to men standing nigh, Take away from him the bezant, and give ye it to him that hath ten bezants.

²⁵ And they said to him, Lord, he hath ten bezants.

²⁶ And I say to you, to each man that hath, it shall be given, and he shall increase; but from him that hath not, also that thing that he hath, shall be taken of or from him.

²⁷ Nevertheless bring ye hither those mine enemies, that would not that I reigned on them, and slay ye before me.

²⁸ And when these things were said, he went before, and went up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it was done, when Jesus came nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount, that is called of Olivet, he sent his two disciples,

³⁰ and said, Go ye into the castle that is against you; into which as ye enter, ye shall find a colt of an ass tied, on which never man sat; untie ye him, and bring ye to me.

³¹ And if any man ask you, why ye untie, thus ye shall say to him, For the Lord desireth his work.

³² And they that were sent, went forth, and found as he said to them, a colt standing.

³³ And when they untied the colt, the lords of it said to them, What or Why untie ye the colt?

³⁴ And they said, For the Lord hath need to him.

³⁵ And they led him to Jesus; and they casted their clothes on the colt, and set or put Jesus on him.

³⁶ And when he went, they spreaded their clothes in the way.

³⁷ And when he came nigh to the coming down of the mount of Olivet, all the people that came down began to joy, and to praise God with great voice on all the virtues, that they had seen,

³⁸ and said, Blessed be the king, that cometh in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in high things.

³⁹ And some of the Pharisees of the people said to him, Master, blame thy disciples.

⁴⁰ And he said to them, I say to you, for if these be still, stones shall cry.

⁵ And Jesus beheld up, when he came to the place, and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, haste thee, and come down, for today I must dwell in thine house.

⁶ And he hieing or he hasting came down, and joying(ly) received him.

⁷ And when all men saw, they grudged (or they grumbled), saying, For he had turned to a sinful man.

⁸ But Zacchaeus stood, and said to the Lord, Lo! Lord, I (now) give the half of my goods to poor men; and if I have anything defrauded any man, I yield four so much, or I yield fourfold, (or and if I have defrauded anyone of any amount, I shall repay them four times as much).

⁹ Jesus saith to him, For today health is made to this house, for that he is Abraham’s son; (Jesus said to him, Today salvation or deliverance hath come to this house, because he too is Abraham’s son;)

¹⁰ for man’s Son came to seek, and make safe that thing that perished. (for man’s Son came to seek, and to save those who were lost.)

¹¹ When they heard these things, he added, and said a parable, for that he was nigh to Jerusalem, and for they guessed, that anon (or at once) the kingdom of God should be showed.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a messenger after him, and said, or Forsooth his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not, that he reign on us, (or We do not desire, that he reign over us, or We do not want him to rule over us).

¹⁵ And it was done, that he turned again (or that he returned), when he had taken the kingdom; and he commanded his servants to be called, to which he had given (the) money, to know, how much each had won by chaffering (or to learn, how much each had earned by merchandizing, or trading).

¹⁶ And the first came, and said, Lord, thy bezant hath won ten bezants, (or Lord, thy coin hath earned ten coins).

¹⁷ He said to him, Well be, thou good servant; for in little thing thou hast been true, thou shalt be having power on ten cities or thou shalt have power upon ten cities. (He said to him, Well done, O good servant; because in a little thing thou hast been true, thou shalt have power over ten cities.)

¹⁸ And the tother came, and said, Lord, thy bezant hath made five bezants. (And the next came, and said, Lord, thy coin hath earned five coins.)

¹⁹ And to this he said, And be thou on five cities. (And to him he said, And thou shalt be over five cities.)

²⁰ And the third came, and said, Lord, lo! thy bezant, (or Lord, behold! thy coin), that I had, put up or kept in a sudarium, or (a) sweating cloth, (or in a napkin).

²¹ For I dreaded thee, for thou art an austere man; thou takest away that that thou settedest not, and thou reapest that that thou hast not sown. (For I feared thee, for thou art a stern and a hard man; thou takest away that which thou hast not brought, and thou harvestest that which thou hast not sown.)

²² He saith to him, Wicked servant, of thy mouth I deem thee. Knewest thou, that I am an austere man, taking away that thing that I setted not, and reaping that thing that I sowed not or that I have not sown? (He said to him, Wicked servant, with the words of thy own mouth I shall judge thee. Knewest thou, that I am a stern and hard man, taking away that which I have not brought, and harvesting that which I have not sown?)

²³ and why hast thou not given my money to the board, and I coming should have asked (for) it or should have received it with usuries? (and why hast thou not given my money to the money-changers, and then when I came back, I would have received it with some interest?)

²⁴ And he said to (the) men standing nigh, Take away from him the bezant, and give ye it to him that hath ten bezants. (And he said to the men standing near, Take away the coin from him, and give it to him who hath ten coins.)

²⁵ And they said to him, Lord, he hath ten bezants, (or Lord, he hath ten coins!).

²⁶ And I say to you, to each man that hath, it shall be given, and he shall increase; but from him that hath not, also that thing that he hath, shall be taken of him or shall be taken from him.

²⁷ Nevertheless bring ye hither those (of) mine enemies, that would not that I reigned on them, and slay ye (them) before me. (And bring here those enemies of mine, who do not desire that I reign over them, or who do not want me to rule over them, and kill them before me.)

²⁸ And when these things were said or And these things said, he went before (or he went forth), and went up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it was done, when Jesus came nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount, that is called of Olivet (or at the Mount of Olives), he sent his two disciples,

³⁰ and said, Go ye into the castle that is against you (or Go into the village that is opposite you); into which as ye enter, ye shall find a colt of an ass tied, on which never (any) man sat; untie ye him, and bring ye (it) to me.

³¹ And if any man ask you, why ye untie (it), thus ye shall say to him, For the Lord desireth his work.

³² And they that were sent, went forth, and found as he said to them, a colt standing (there).

³⁴ And they said, For the Lord hath need to him (or For the Lord hath need of him).

³⁵ And they led him to Jesus; and they casted their clothes on the colt, and set or put Jesus on him. (And they led it to Jesus; and they threw their clothes onto the colt, and then put Jesus on it.)

³⁶ And when he went, they spreaded their clothes in the way. (And as he went, they spread their clothes on the way, or on the road.)

³⁷ And when now he came nigh to the coming down of the mount of Olivet, all the people that came down began to joy, and to praise God with (a) great voice on all the virtues, that they had seen, (And when he came near to the descent of the Mount of Olives, all the people who came down began to rejoice, and to praise God with loud voices, for all the works of power, or all the miracles, that they had seen,)

³⁸ and said, Blessed be the king, that cometh in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in high things.

⁴⁰ And he said to them, I say to you (or I tell you), for if these be still, (the) stones shall cry (out).

⁵ And Jhesus biheld vp, whanne he cam to the place, and saiy hym, and seide to hym, Sache, haste thee, and come doun, for to dai Y mot dwelle in thin hous.

⁶ And he hiyynge cam doun, and ioiynge resseyuede hym.

⁷ And whanne alle men sayn, thei grutchiden seiynge, For he hadde turned to a synful man.

⁸ But Sache stood, and seide to the Lord, Lo! Lord, Y yyue the half of my good to pore men; and if Y haue ony thing defraudid ony man, Y yelde foure so myche.

⁹ Jhesus seith to hym, For to dai heelthe is maad to this hous, for that he is Abrahams sone;

¹⁰ for mannus sone cam to seke, and make saaf that thing that perischide.

¹¹ Whanne thei herden these thingis, he addide, and seide a parable, for that he was nyy Jerusalem, `and for thei gessiden, that anoon the kyngdom of God schulde be schewid.

¹² Therfor he seide, A worthi man wente in to a fer cuntre, to take to hym a kyngdom, and to turne ayen.

¹³ And whanne hise ten seruauntis weren clepid, he yaf to hem ten besauntis; and seide to hem, Chaffare ye, til Y come.

¹⁴ But hise citeseyns hatiden hym, and senten a messanger aftir hym, and seiden, We wolen not, that he regne on vs.

¹⁵ And it was don, that he turnede ayen, whan he hadde take the kyngdom; and he comaundide hise seruauntis to be clepid, to whiche he hadde yyue monei, to wite, hou myche ech hadde wonne bi chaffaryng.

¹⁶ And the firste cam, and seide, Lord, thi besaunt hath wonne ten besauntis.

¹⁷ He seide to hym, Wel be, thou good seruaunt; for in litil thing thou hast be trewe, thou schalt be hauynge power on ten citees.

¹⁸ And the tother cam, and seide, Lord, thi besaunt hath maad fyue besauntis.

¹⁹ And to this he seide, And be thou on fyue citees.

²⁰ And the thridde cam, and seide, Lord, lo! thi besaunt, that Y hadde, put vp in a sudarie.

²¹ For Y dredde thee, for thou art `a sterne man; thou takist awey that that thou settidist not, and thou repist that that thou hast not sowun.

²² He seith to hym, Wickid seruaunt, of thi mouth Y deme thee. Wistist thou, that Y am `a sterne man, takynge awei that thing that Y settide not, and repyng ethat thing that Y sewe not?

²³ and whi hast thou not youun my money to the bord, and Y comynge schulde haue axid it with vsuris?

²⁴ And he seide to men stondynge nyy, Take ye awei fro hym the besaunt, and yyue ye to hym that hath ten beyauntis:

²⁵ And thei seiden to hym, Lord, he hath ten besauntis.

²⁶ And Y seie to you, to ech man that hath, it schal be youun, and he schal encreese; but fro him that hath not, also that thing that he hath, schal be takun of hym.

²⁷ Netheles brynge ye hidur tho myn enemyes, that wolden not that Y regnede on hem, and sle ye bifor me.

²⁸ And whanne these thingis weren seid, he wente bifore, and yede vp to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it was don, whanne Jhesus cam nyy to Bethfage and Betanye, at the mount, that is clepid of Olyuete, he sente hise twei disciplis, and seide,

³⁰ Go ye in to the castel, that is ayens you; in to which as ye entren, ye schulen fynde a colt of an asse tied, on which neuer man sat; vntye ye hym, and brynge ye to me.

³¹ And if ony man axe you, whi ye vntien, thus ye schulen seie to hym, For the Lord desirith his werk.

³² And thei that weren sent, wenten forth, and fonden as he seide to hem, a colt stondynge.

³³ And whanne thei vntieden the colt, the lordis of hym seiden to hem, What vntien ye the colt?

³⁴ And thei seiden, For the Lord hath nede to hym.

³⁵ And thei ledden hym to Jhesu; and thei castynge her clothis on the colt, setten Jhesu on hym.

³⁶ And whanne he wente, thei strowiden her clothis in the weie.

³⁷ And whanne he cam nyy to the comyng doun of the mount of Olyuete, al the puple that cam doun bygunnen to ioye, and to herie God with greet vois on alle the vertues, that thei hadden sayn,

³⁸ and seiden, Blessid be the king, that cometh in the name of the Lord; pees in heuene, and glorie in hiye thingis.

³⁹ And sum of the Farisees of the puple seiden to hym, Maister, blame thi disciplis.

⁴⁰ And he seide to hem, Y seie to you, for if these ben stille, stoonus schulen crye.

⁵ And as Jesus came up to the place, having looked up, he saw him, and said unto him, 'Zaccheus, having hastened, come down, for to-day in thy house it behoveth me to remain;'

⁶ and he having hastened did come down, and did receive him rejoicing;

⁷ and having seen it, they were all murmuring, saying — 'With a sinful man he went in to lodge!'

⁸ And Zaccheus having stood, said unto the Lord, 'Lo, the half of my goods, sir, I give to the poor, and if of any one anything I did take by false accusation, I give back fourfold.'

⁹ And Jesus said unto him — 'To-day salvation did come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;

¹⁰ for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.'

¹¹ And while they are hearing these things, having added he spake a simile, because of his being nigh to Jerusalem, and of their thinking that the reign of God is about presently to be made manifest.

¹² He said therefore, 'A certain man of birth went on to a far country, to take to himself a kingdom, and to return,

¹³ and having called ten servants of his own, he gave to them ten pounds, and said unto them, Do business — till I come;

¹⁴ and his citizens were hating him, and did send an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this one to reign over us.

¹⁵ 'And it came to pass, on his coming back, having taken the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he gave the money, that he might know what any one had done in business.

¹⁶ 'And the first came near, saying, Sir, thy pound did gain ten pounds;

¹⁷ and he said to him, Well done, good servant, because in a very little thou didst become faithful, be having authority over ten cities.

¹⁸ 'And the second came, saying, Sir, thy pound made five pounds;

¹⁹ and he said also to this one, And thou, become thou over five cities.

²⁰ 'And another came, saying, Sir, lo, thy pound, that I had lying away in a napkin;

²¹ for I was afraid of thee, because thou art an austere man; thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and reapest what thou didst not sow.

²² 'And he saith to him, Out of thy mouth I will judge thee, evil servant: thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow!

²³ and wherefore didst thou not give my money to the bank, and I, having come, with interest might have received it?

²⁴ 'And to those standing by he said, Take from him the pound, and give to him having the ten pounds —

²⁵ (and they said to him, Sir, he hath ten pounds) —

²⁶ for I say to you, that to every one having shall be given, and from him not having, also what he hath shall be taken from him,

²⁷ but those my enemies, who did not wish me to reign over them, bring hither and slay before me.'

²⁸ And having said these things, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁹ And it came to pass, as he came nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, unto the mount called of the Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁰ having said, Go away to the village over-against, in which, entering into, ye shall find a colt bound, on which no one of men did ever sit, having loosed it, bring it;

³¹ and if any one doth question you, Wherefore do ye loose it? thus ye shall say to him — The Lord hath need of it.'

³² And those sent, having gone away, found according as he said to them,

³³ and while they are loosing the colt, its owners said unto them, 'Why loose ye the colt?'

³⁴ and they said, 'The Lord hath need of it;'

³⁵ and they brought it unto Jesus, and having cast their garments upon the colt, they did set Jesus upon it.

³⁶ And as he is going, they were spreading their garments in the way,

³⁷ and as he is coming nigh now, at the descent of the mount of the Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a great voice for all the mighty works they had seen,

³⁸ saying, 'blessed is he who is coming, a king in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.'

³⁹ And certain of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, 'Teacher, rebuke thy disciples;'

⁴⁰ and he answering said to them, 'I say to you, that, if these shall be silent, the stones will cry out!'
