⁸ I say unto you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

⁹ And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

¹² I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.

¹³ But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me a sinner.

¹⁴ I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

⁸ But I tell you, some day he will show that what you did was right, and he will do it quickly. But when I, the one who came from heaven, return to earth, ◄there may not be many people who will still be trusting that I will vindicate them (OR, who will still be trusting in me)./will there be many people who will still be trusting that I will vindicate them (OR, who will still be trusting in me)?► RHQ”

⁹ Jesus also told a parable to warn people who mistakenly thought that they were doing things that made them acceptable to God. Besides, they also despised other people.

¹⁰ He said this: “Two men went up to the Temple in Jerusalem to pray. One was a Pharisee. The other was a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed silently, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men. Some extort money from others; some treat others unjustly; some commit adultery. I do not do such things. And I am certainly not like this tax collector who cheats people!

¹² Our law says that we(exc) should ◄fast/abstain from food► once a week, but I do more than that. I fast twice a week! I give you ten percent of all that I earn!’

¹³ But the tax collector stood far from the other people in the Temple courtyard because he felt very unworthy. He would not even look up toward heaven. Instead, he beat on his chest to show that he was sorry for his sin. He said, ‘God, I am a sinner; be merciful to me and forgive me!’”

¹⁴ Then Jesus said, “I tell you (pl) that as the tax collector went home, the record of his sins was erased { God erased the record of his sins}, not that of the Pharisee. Remember this: Those who exalt themselves will be humbled { God will humble all those who exalt themselves}, but those who humble themselves will be exalted { he will exalt those who humble themselves}.”

⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

⁹ He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others:

¹⁰ “Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men: extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

⁸ I say to you that he will quickly do right in their cause. But when the Son of man comes, will there be any faith on earth?

⁹ And he made this story for some people who were certain that they were good, and had a low opinion of others:

¹⁰ Two men went up to the Temple for prayer; one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-farmer.

¹¹ The Pharisee, taking up his position, said to himself these words: God, I give you praise because I am not like other men, who take more than their right, who are evil-doers, who are untrue to their wives, or even like this tax-farmer.

¹² Twice in the week I go without food; I give a tenth of all I have.

¹³ The tax-farmer, on the other hand, keeping far away, and not lifting up even his eyes to heaven, made signs of grief and said, God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

¹⁴ I say to you, This man went back to his house with God's approval, and not the other: for everyone who makes himself high will be made low and whoever makes himself low will be made high.

⁸ I say unto you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the Son of man comes, shall he indeed find faith on the earth?

⁹ And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest of men, this parable:

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer.

¹¹ The Pharisee, standing, prayed thus to himself: God, I thank thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer.

¹² I fast twice in the week, I tithe everything I gain.

¹³ And the tax-gatherer, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, O God, have compassion on me, the sinner.

¹⁴ I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than that other. For every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁸ I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?

⁹ And to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others, he spoke also this parable:

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray: the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

¹¹ The Pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, as also is this publican.

¹² I fast twice in a week: I give tithes of all that I possess.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O god, be merciful to me a sinner.

¹⁴ I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather that the other: because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

⁸ I tell you that He will execute justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

⁹ Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the others:

¹⁰ “Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast twice a week, I tithe on all things, as many as I acquire.’

¹³ And the tax collector, standing far away, would not so much as lift his eyes towards heaven, but beat on his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

¹⁴ I say to you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.”

⁸ I tell you that He will get justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of the Man comes, will He actually find the faith on the earth?”

⁹ Then He told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest:

¹⁰ “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and started praying to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like all the rest—robbers, unjust, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast twice a week; I tithe all that I get.’

¹³ The tax collector, staying a good ways off, did not even venture to look up to heaven, but started beating on his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

¹⁴ I say to you that this one went back home justified rather than that one; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

⁸ No, I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. However, when the Son of man comes, will he find people on earth who trust in him?”

⁹ He also told this story about those who are so sure that they are living right, and who put everybody else down.

¹⁰ “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood up and prayed to himself, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—cheats, criminals, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast twice a week, and I pay tithe on my income.’

¹³ But the tax collector stood at a distance. He wouldn't even look up to heaven. Instead he beat his chest and prayed, ‘God, please be merciful to me. I am a sinner.’

¹⁴ I tell you, it was this man who went home right in God's sight and not the other. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, while those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

⁸ I tell you he will auenge them quickly: but when the Sonne of man commeth, shall he finde faith on the earth?

⁹ He spake also this parable vnto certaine which trusted in themselues that they were iust, and despised other.

¹⁰ Two men went vp into the Temple to pray: the one a Pharise, and the other a Publican.

¹¹ The Pharise stoode and prayed thus with himselfe, O God, I thanke thee that I am not as other men, extortioners, vniust, adulterers, or euen as this Publican.

¹² I fast twise in the weeke: I giue tithe of all that euer I possesse.

¹³ But the Publican standing a farre off, woulde not lift vp so much as his eyes to heauen, but smote his brest, saying, O God, be mercifull to me a sinner.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man departed to his house iustified, rather then the other: for euery man that exalteth himselfe, shall be brought lowe, and he that humbleth himselfe, shalbe exalted.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood forward and began praying to himself in this way — ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men — thieves, rogues, adulterers — or even like this tax-gatherer.

¹³ Meanwhile the tax-gatherer stood at a distance, not venturing even to raise his eyes to heaven, but he kept striking his breast and saying ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

¹¹ The Pharisee Separated stood and prayed to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortionists, unrighteous, moichoi ·adulterers·, or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

⁸ No. I’m telling you this for sure. God will listen to you, and he will get up quick and he will make sure you get a fair go.” Then Jesus said, “But when I, God’s special man, come back again from heaven to this earth, will I find people trusting me, or not?”

⁹ Some people there thought that they were really good, and they rubbished everyone else. They reckoned, “We are so good that God will always say we are all right.” So Jesus told them this picture story. He said,

¹⁰ “I will tell you about 2 men that went to God’s ceremony house to pray to him. One of them was a law man called a Pharisee, and the other was a man that took tax money from people to give it to the government. You know, nobody likes the men that do that.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself, where everyone could see him, and he said, ‘Thank you, God, that I am different from everyone else. You see, God, I don’t cheat anyone, and I don’t do anything bad. I don’t sleep with anyone that is not my wife. I’m not a bad man like that man over there. He takes money from people to give it to the government.

¹² But I am good. On 2 days every week I don’t eat any food, and whenever I get some money I give you some of it, like $1 out of every $10. So you have to say I am all right.’

¹³ But the government money man was sorry for the bad things he did. He was ashamed, so he did not stand close to the other people. He looked down at the ground and he hit himself on his chest. He said, ‘I’m sorry, God. I know I did bad things. Please be sorry for me and don’t punish me.’

¹⁴ I’m telling now, God listened to that bad man that was sorry, and God said he is all right. He went home feeling good. But God didn’t say that for the Pharisee, the man that reckoned he was real good. He didn’t go home feeling good. You see, if you reckon you are important, God will make you not important. But if you reckon you are not important, God will make you important.”

⁸ I tell you he will avenge them and that quickly. Neverthelesse when the sonne of man cometh suppose ye that he shall fynde faithe on the erthe.

⁹ And he put forthe this similitude vnto certayne which trusted in the selves that they were perfecte and despysed other.

¹⁰ Two men went vp into the temple to praye: the one a pharise and the other a publican.

¹¹ The pharise stode and prayed thus with him selfe. God I thanke the that I am not as other men are extorsioners vniuste advoutrers or as this publican.

¹² I fast twyse in the weke. I geve tythe of all that I possesse.

¹³ And the publican stode afarre of and wolde not lyfte vp his eyes to heven but smote his brest sayinge: God be mercyfull to me a synner.

¹⁴ I tell you: this man departed home to his housse iustified moore then the other. For every man that exalteth him selfe shalbe brought low: And he that hubleth him selfe shalbe exalted

⁸ I say to you that he will bring justice to them speedily. Even so, when the Son of Man comes, will he indeed find faith on the earth?”

⁹ Then he also spoke this parable to some who were persuaded in themselves that they were righteous and who despised other people,

¹⁰ “Two men went up into the temple to pray—the one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed these things about himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, unrighteous people, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

¹² I fast two times every week. I give tithes of all that I get.'

¹³ But the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but hit his breast, saying, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

⁸ Soothly I say to you, for soon he shall do the vengeance of them. Nevertheless guessest thou, that man’s Son coming shall find faith in earth?

⁹ And he said also to some men, that trusted in themselves, as they were rightful or as rightful, and despised others, this parable, saying,

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

¹¹ And the Pharisee stood, and prayed by himself these things, and said, God, I do thankings to thee, for I am not as other men, raveners, unjust, adulterers, as also this publican;

¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all things that I have in possession.

¹³ And the publican stood afar, and would not raise up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, and said, God be merciful to me, sinner.

¹⁴ Truly I say to you, this went down into his house, and was justified from the other. For each that enhanceth himself, shall be made low, and he that meeketh himself, shall be enhanced.

⁸ Soothly I say to you, for soon he shall do the vengeance of them. Nevertheless guessest thou, that man’s Son coming shall find faith in earth? (Truly I say to you, or I tell you the truth, that soon he shall take vengeance for them. Nevertheless guessest thou, that when man’s Son cometh, he shall find faith on the earth?)

⁹ And he said also to some men, that trusted in themselves, as they were rightful, or that trusted in themselves, as rightful, (or who believed themselves to be good and righteous), and despised others, this parable, saying,

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican (or and the other one a tax-collector).

¹¹ And the Pharisee stood, and prayed by himself these things, and said, God, I do thankings to thee, (or God, I give thanks to thee), for I am not as other men, raveners, unjust, adulterers, as also this publican (is);

¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all (the) things that I have in possession.

¹³ And the publican stood afar (or And the tax-collector stood far off), and would not raise up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, and said, God be merciful to me, (a) sinner.

¹⁴ Truly I say to you, this went down into his house, and was justified from the other. For each that enhanceth himself, shall be made low, and he that meeketh himself, shall be enhanced. (I tell you the truth, this man went down to his house, and was justified rather than the other man. For everyone who exalteth himself, or who raiseth himself up, shall be made low, and he who humbleth himself, shall be exalted, or shall be raised up.)

⁸ Sotheli Y seie to you, for soone he schal do veniaunce of hem. Netheles gessist thou, that mannus sone comynge schal fynde feith in erthe?

⁹ And he seide also to sum men, that tristiden in hem silf, as thei weren riytful, and dispiseden othere, this parable,

¹⁰ seiynge, Twei men wenten vp in to the temple to preye; the toon a Farisee, and the tother a pupplican.

¹¹ And the Farisee stood, and preiede bi hym silf these thingis, and seide, God, Y do thankyngis to thee, for Y am not as other men, raueinouris, vniust, auoutreris, as also this pupplican;

¹² Y faste twies in the woke, Y yyue tithis of alle thingis that Y haue in possessioun.

¹³ And the pupplican stood afer, and wolde nether reise hise iyen to heuene, but smoot his brest, and seide, God be merciful to me, synnere.

¹⁴ Treuli Y seie to you, this yede doun in to his hous, and was iustified fro the other. For ech that enhaunsith hym, schal be maad low, and he that mekith hym, schal be enhaunsid.

⁸ I say to you, that He will execute the justice to them quickly; but the Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?'

⁹ And he spake also unto certain who have been trusting in themselves that they were righteous, and have been despising the rest, this simile:

¹⁰ 'Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer;

¹¹ the Pharisee having stood by himself, thus prayed: God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer;

¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all things — as many as I possess.

¹³ 'And the tax-gatherer, having stood afar off, would not even the eyes lift up to the heaven, but was smiting on his breast, saying, God be propitious to me — the sinner!

¹⁴ I say to you, this one went down declared righteous, to his house, rather than that one: for every one who is exalting himself shall be humbled, and he who is humbling himself shall be exalted.'
