Luke 16:8-18 in English

⁸ And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.

⁹ And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much.

¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they that justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and every man entereth violently into it.

¹⁷ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.

¹⁸ Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth one that is put away from a husband committeth adultery.

⁸ When his master heard what the manager had done, he admired the dishonest manager for the clever thing he had done. The truth is that the ungodly people in this world act more wisely toward other people than godly people MET act.

⁹ So I tell you (pl) this: Use the money that you have here on earth to help others so that they will become your friends. Then when you die and you cannot take any money with you, God and his angels will welcome you into a home in heaven that will last forever.

¹⁰ People who faithfully manage small matters will also faithfully manage important matters. People who are dishonest in the way they handle small matters will be dishonest in the way they handle important matters.

¹¹ So if you have not faithfully handled the money that God has given you here on earth, ◄he will certainly not allow you to possess the true spiritual riches in heaven!/would he allow you to possess the true spiritual riches in heaven?► RHQ

¹² And if you have not faithfully managed things that belong to other people, ◄ God will certainly not allow you to receive treasures in heaven that would belong to you!/would God allow you to receive treasures in heaven that would belong to you?► RHQ

¹³ No servant is able to serve two different bosses at the same time. If he tried to do that, he would prefer one of them more than the other one; he would be loyal to one of them and despise the other one. Similarly, you cannot devote your life to worshipping God and worshipping money and material goods at the same time.”

¹⁴ There were some Pharisees there. They loved to acquire money. When they heard Jesus say that, they ridiculed him.

¹⁵ But he said to them, “You try to make other people think that you are righteous, but God knows your ◄inner beings/hearts►. So he will reject you. Keep in mind that many things that people think are important, God thinks are detestable.

¹⁶ The laws that God gave Moses and what the prophets MTY wrote were ◄ in effect/what you needed to obey► until John the Baptizer came. Since then I have been preaching about how God wants to rule people's lives in a new way, and many people are accepting that message and very eagerly asking God to control their lives. But that does not mean that God has abolished the laws that he established previously.

¹⁷ All of God's laws, even those that seem insignificant, are more permanent than heaven and earth.

¹⁸ For example, because God considers that a marriage lasts until either the husband or the wife dies, he considers that any man who divorces his wife and marries another woman is committing adultery. He also considers that any man who marries a woman who has been divorced by her husband {whose husband has divorced her} is also committing adultery.”

⁸ And his lord was pleased with the false servant, because he had been wise; for the sons of this world are wiser in relation to their generation than the sons of light.

⁹ And I say to you, Make friends for yourselves through the wealth of this life, so that when it comes to an end, you may be taken into the eternal resting-places.

¹⁰ He who is true in a little, is true in much; he who is false in small things, is false in great.

¹¹ If, then, you have not been true in your use of the wealth of this life, who will give into your care the true wealth?

¹² And if you have not been true in your care of the property of other people, who will give you that which is yours?

¹³ No man may be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other; or he will keep to the one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees, who had a great love of money, hearing these things, were making sport of him.

¹⁵ And he said, You take care to seem right in the eyes of men, but God sees your hearts: and those things which are important in the opinion of men, are evil in the eyes of God.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were till John: but then came the preaching of the kingdom of God, and everyone makes his way into it by force.

¹⁷ But heaven and earth will come to an end before the smallest letter of the law may be dropped out.

¹⁸ Everyone who puts away his wife and takes another, is a false husband: and he who is married to a woman whose husband has put her away, is no true husband to her.

⁸ And the lord praised the unrighteous steward because he had done prudently. For the sons of this world are, for their own generation, more prudent than the sons of light.

⁹ And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, that when it fails ye may be received into the eternal tabernacles.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in the least is faithful also in much; and he that is unrighteous in the least is unrighteous also in much.

¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who shall entrust to you the true?

¹² and if ye have not been faithful in that which is another's, who shall give to you your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will cleave to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and mocked him.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what amongst men is highly thought of is an abomination before God.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the glad tidings of the kingdom of God are announced, and every one forces his way into it.

¹⁷ But it is easier that the heaven and the earth should pass away than that one tittle of the law should fail.

¹⁸ Every one who puts away his wife and marries another commits adultery; and every one that marries one put away from a husband commits adultery.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely: for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light.

⁹ And I say to you: Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity; that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in that which is greater: and he that is unjust in that which is little, is unjust also in that which is greater.

¹¹ If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon; who will trust you with that which is the true?

¹² And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s; who will give you that which is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

¹⁷ And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fall.

¹⁸ Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.

⁸ So the master praised the unrighteous manager because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this age are shrewder in their own generation than the sons of light.

⁹ “And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by the mammon of unrighteousness, so that whenever you fail, they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in what is least is also unjust in much.

¹¹ Therefore if you were not faithful with the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you what is genuine?

¹² And if you were not faithful in what belongs to another, who will give to you what is yours?

¹³ “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and they were mocking Him.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

¹⁶ “The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone enters forcibly into it.

¹⁷ And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.

¹⁸ “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and everyone who marries a woman who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

⁸ The master even ‘commended’ the dishonest manager, because he had acted shrewdly. The sons of this age are shrewder in their own generation than the sons of the Light.

⁹ “I even say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous mammon, so that whenever you fail, they may receive you into the eternal dwellings!

¹⁰ He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much, and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.

¹¹ If therefore you have not been faithful with the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the genuine?

¹² And if you have not been faithful in what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters; either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon!”

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were also listening to all these things, and they were ridiculing Him.

¹⁵ So He said to them: “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. That which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

¹⁶ The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the Kingdom of God is being proclaimed, and every one is trying to force his way into it.

¹⁷ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the Law to fail.

¹⁸ “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

⁸ The rich man commended his dishonest manager for his cunning idea. The children of this world are more cunning towards one another than are the children of light.

⁹ I tell you, use the wealth of this world to make friends for yourselves so that when it's gone, you'll be welcomed into an eternal home.

¹⁰ If you can be trusted with very little you can also be trusted with much; if you are dishonest with very little you will also be dishonest with much.

¹¹ So if you can't be trusted when it comes to worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

¹² And if you can't be trusted with what belongs to someone else, who will trust you with what is yours?

¹³ No servant can obey two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can't serve both God and Money.”

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who loved money, heard what Jesus said and laughed at him.

¹⁵ But Jesus told them, “You appear pious to people, but God knows what you're thinking. What people value highly is detested by God.

¹⁶ What was written in the law and the prophets lasted until John. From then on the good news of the kingdom of God is being spread, and everyone is forcing their way in.

¹⁷ However, it's easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for the smallest point of the Law to disappear.

¹⁸ Any man who divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery, and a man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

⁸ And the Lord commended the vniust stewarde, because he had done wisely. Wherefore the children of this worlde are in their generation wiser then the children of light.

⁹ And I say vnto you, Make you friends with the riches of iniquitie, that when ye shall want, they may receiue you into euerlasting habitations.

¹⁰ He that is faithfull in the least, hee is also faithful in much: and he that is vniust in the least, is vniust also in much.

¹¹ If then ye haue not ben faithful in the wicked riches, who wil trust you in the true treasure?

¹² And if ye haue not bene faithfull in another mans goods, who shall giue you that which is yours?

¹³ No seruaunt can serue two masters: for either he shall hate the one, and loue the other: or els he shall leane to the one, and despise the other. Yee can not serue God and riches.

¹⁴ All these thinges heard the Pharises also which were couetous, and they scoffed at him.

¹⁵ Then he sayde vnto them, Yee are they, which iustifie your selues before men: but God knoweth your heartes: for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The Lawe and the Prophets endured vntill Iohn: and since that time the kingdome of God is preached, and euery man preasseth into it.

¹⁷ Nowe it is more easie that heauen and earth shoulde passe away, then that one title of the Lawe should fall.

¹⁸ Whosoeuer putteth away his wife, and marieth another, committeth adulterie: and whosoeuer marieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adulterie.

¹⁶ Abraham said to him...there is a very big gap between us and you. For those of us who might want to go to you fellows, there is no way, truly it's impossible to do that. Also for those of you who might want to come to us, there is no way, truly it's impossible to do that.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward for having done wisely; for the sons of this world are wiser toward their generation than the sons of light.

⁹ And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends with the unrighteous mammon; that, when it faileth, ye may be received into everlasting habitations.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in much.

¹⁰ The person who is trustworthy in the smallest matter is trustworthy in a great one also; and the person who is dishonest in the smallest matter is dishonest in a great one also.

¹¹ So, if you have proved untrustworthy with the dishonest money, who will trust you with the true?

¹² And, if you have proved untrustworthy with what does not belong to us, who will give you what is really our own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters, for, either they will hate one and love the other, or else they will attach themselves to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

¹⁴ All this was said within hearing of the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, and they began to sneer at Jesus.

¹⁵ “You,” said Jesus, “are the ones who justify themselves before the world, but God can read your hearts; and what is highly esteemed amongst people may be an abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The Law and the prophets sufficed until the time of John. Since then the good news of the kingdom of God has been told, and everybody has been forcing their way into it.

¹⁷ It would be easier for the heavens and the earth to disappear than for one stroke of a letter in the Law to be lost.

¹⁸ Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman is an adulterer, and the man who marries a divorced woman is an adulterer.

⁸ His master complimented this dishonest steward on the shrewdness of his action. And indeed men of the world are shrewder in dealing with their fellow men than those who have the light.

¹⁵ “You,” said Jesus, “are the ones who justify themselves before the world, but God can read your hearts; and what is highly esteemed among people may be an abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The Law and the prophets sufficed until the time of John. Since then the good news of the kingdom of God has been told, and everybody has been forcing their way into it.

¹⁷ It would be easier for the heavens and the earth to disappear than for one stroke of a letter in the Law to be lost.

¹⁸ Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman is an adulterer, and the man who marries a divorced woman is an adulterer.

⁸ “His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light.

⁹ I tell you, make for yourselves friends by means of unrighteous mammon ·wealth·, so that when you fail, they may receive you into the eternal tents.

¹⁰ He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.

¹¹ If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon ·wealth·, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

¹² If you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and show agapao ·total devotion love· to the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and Mammon ·Wealth·.”

¹⁴ The Pharisees Separated, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.

¹⁵ He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The Torah ·Teaching· and the Prophets were until John Yah is gracious. Since then the Good News of God’s Kingdom is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

¹⁷ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the Torah ·Teaching· become void.

¹⁸ Everyone who divorces his wife, and marries another moicheuo ·commits adultery·. He who marries one who is divorced from a husband moicheuo ·commits adultery·.

⁸ That manager was cheating his boss, but his boss thought, ‘This man is a liar and a cheat, but he is smart too. He has done something that will help him get his food later.’” Then Jesus said, “You know, the people that don’t care about God, but only care about the things in this world, they are smarter with the things of this world than God’s people.

⁹ This is what you can learn from that story. Use your money now to help people that need money, and then later, after you die and have nothing on this earth, God will say, ‘Good on you. Come and live for ever here in heaven.’”

¹⁰ Then Jesus said, “If people can trust you with little things, they can trust you with big things too. If you cheat with little things, you will cheat with big things too.

¹¹ So if you cheat when you handle money and other things of this world, God will not trust you to handle the very dear spiritual things of heaven.

¹² And if you don’t handle other people’s things properly, God will not give you things for yourself.

¹³ You see, you can’t work for 2 bosses at the same time. If you try to do that, you will like one boss and work properly for him, and you will not like the other boss, and not work properly for him. You see, you can’t have God as your boss, and money as your boss, both at the same time.”

¹⁴ The Jewish law men, called Pharisees, they loved their money. They heard Jesus teach these things, and they laughed at him.

¹⁵ Then Jesus told them, “You mob want everyone to think you are good, but God knows what you are really like, and he knows what you think inside your heads. You see, there are things that people reckon are important, but God thinks those things are rubbish.

¹⁶ You know, God gave Moses the law for people to follow, and he sent other men to tell people God’s messages. And God’s people followed those words, from the time of Moses until the time that John the Baptiser came. Then John told people about the new way. And I’m telling people about that new way too. I’m telling them how to join God’s family, too, and now lots of people are trying hard to get into God’s family.

¹⁷ But the laws from Moses will not go away. You know, the sky and the earth will stay here for a long time, and while they stay here, God’s words will stay here too. God won’t change any little bit of them. They will stay here till everything in them happens.”

¹⁸ Then Jesus said, “Some of those words from God are about people that want to break up their marriage. It is wrong. If a man divorces his wife and marries another woman, he is sleeping with the wrong woman. She is not his proper wife. And if another man marries the divorced woman, that man is sleeping with the wrong woman, too.”

⁸ And the lorde comended the vniust stewarde because he had done wysly. For the chyldren of this worlde are in their kynde wyser then the chyldren of lyght.

⁹ And I saye also vnto you: make you frendes of the wicked mammon that when ye shall departe they may receave you into everlastinge habitacions.

¹⁰ He that is faithfull in that which is leste the same is faithfull in moche. And he that is vnfaithfull in the least: is vnfaithfull also in moche.

¹¹ So then yf ye have not ben faithfull in the wicked mamon? who will beleve you in that which is true?

¹² And yf ye have not bene faithfull in another manes busines: who shall geve you youre awne?

¹³ No servaunt can serve .ii. masters for other he shall hate ye one and love ye other or els he shall lene to the one and despyse the other. Ye can not serve God and mammon.

¹⁴ All these thinges herde the pharises also which were coveteous and they mocked him.

¹⁵ And he sayd vnto them: Ye are they which iustifie youre selves before me: but God knoweth youre hertes. For ye which is highlie estemed amonge me is abhominable in the sight of god.

¹⁶ The lawe and the Prophetes raygned vntyll the tyme of Iohn: and sence that tyme the kyngdom of God is preached and every man stryveth to goo in.

¹⁷ Soner shall heven and erth perisshe then one tytle of the lawe shall perisshe.

¹⁸ Whosoever forsaketh his wyfe and marieth another breaketh matrimony. And every man which marieth her that is devorsed from her husbande committeth advoutry also.

⁸ The master then commended the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own people than are the children of light.

⁹ I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal dwellings.

¹⁰ He who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and he who is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.

¹¹ If you have not been faithful in using unrighteous wealth, who will trust you with true wealth?

¹² If you have not been faithful in using other people's property, who will give you money of your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.

¹⁵ He said to them, “You justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. That which is exalted among men is detestable in the sight of God.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were in effect until John came. From that time on, the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone tries to force their way into it.

¹⁷ But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the law to become invalid.

¹⁸ Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

¹⁰ He that is true or faithful in the least thing, is true or faithful also in the more; and he that is wicked in a little thing, is wicked also in the more.

¹¹ Therefore if ye were not true in the wicked thing of riches or in the wicked riches, who shall betake to you that that is very? or that is sooth?

¹² And if ye were not true in other men’s thing, who shall give to you that that is yours?

¹³ No servant may serve to two lords; for either he shall hate the one, and love the other; either he shall draw or cleave to the one, and despise the other. Ye may not serve to God and to riches.

¹⁸ Every man that forsaketh his wife, and weddeth another, doeth lechery or adultery; and he that weddeth the wife forsaken of the husband, doeth adultery.

⁸ And the lord praised the bailiff of wickedness or And the lord praised the farmer of wickedness, for he had done prudently; for the sons of this world be more prudent in their generation, than the sons of light. (And the lord praised the steward for his wickedness, or his shrewdness, for he had done prudently; for the sons of this world be more prudent with their affairs, than the sons of the light be.)

⁹ And I say to you, make ye to you friends of the riches of wickedness, (so) that when ye shall fail, they receive you into everlasting tabernacles.

¹⁰ He that is true in the least thing, is true also in the more (thing), or He that is faithful in the least thing, is faithful also in the more; and he that is wicked in a little thing, is wicked also in the more (things). (He who is true in the least thing, is also true in the greater thing; and he who is wicked in a little thing, is also wicked in the greater things.)

¹¹ Therefore if ye were not true in the wicked thing of riches or Therefore if ye were not true in the wicked riches, who shall betake to you that that is very or (that) that is sooth? (or who shall deliver unto you that which is truly valuable?)

¹² And if ye were not true in other men’s thing(s), who shall give to you that that is yours?

¹³ No servant may serve to two lords; for either he shall hate the one, and love the other; either he shall draw to the one, and despise the other. Ye may not serve to God and to riches (or Ye cannot serve God and money, or wealth). No manservant may serve two lords; forsooth either he shall hate one, and love the other; either he shall cleave to one, and despise the other. Ye may not serve to God and riches.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Ye it be, that justify you(rselves) before men; but God hath known your hearts or soothly God knoweth your hearts, for that that is high to men, is (an) abomination before God.

¹⁷ Forsooth it is lighter (for) heaven and earth to pass (away), than that one tittle fall from the law. (For it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot to fall away from the Law.)

⁹ And Y seie to you, make ye to you freendis of the ritchesse of wickidnesse, that whanne ye schulen fayle, thei resseyue you in to euerlastynge tabernaclis.

¹⁰ He that is trewe in the leeste thing, is trewe also in the more; and he that is wickid in a litil thing, is wickid also in the more.

¹¹ Therfor if ye weren not trewe in the wickid thing of ritchesse, who schal bitake to you that that is verry?

¹² And if ye weren not trewe in othere mennus thing, who schal yyue to you that that is youre?

¹³ No seruaunt may serue to twei lordis; for ether he schal hate `the toon, and loue the tothir; ethir he schal drawe to `the toon, and schal dispise the tothir. Ye moun not serue to God and to ritchesse.

¹⁴ But the Farisees, that weren coueytous, herden alle these thingis, and thei scorneden hym.

¹⁵ And he seide to hem, Ye it ben, that iustifien you bifor men; but God hath knowun youre hertis, for that that is hiy to men, is abhomynacioun bifor God.

¹⁶ The lawe and prophetis til to Joon; fro that tyme the rewme of God is euangelisid, and ech man doith violence in to it.

¹⁷ Forsothe it is liyter heuene and erthe to passe, than that o titil falle fro the lawe.

¹⁸ Euery man that forsakith his wijf, and weddith an other, doith letcherie; and he that weddith the wijf forsakun of the hosebonde, doith auowtrie.

⁸ 'And the lord commended the unrighteous steward that he did prudently, because the sons of this age are more prudent than the sons of the light, in respect to their generation.

⁹ and I say to you, Make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye may fail, they may receive you to the age-during tabernacles.

¹⁰ 'He who is faithful in the least, is also faithful in much; and he who in the least is unrighteous, is also unrighteous in much;

¹¹ if, then, in the unrighteous mammon ye became not faithful — the true who will entrust to you?

¹² and if in the other's ye became not faithful — your own, who shall give to you?

¹³ 'No domestic is able to serve two lords, for either the one he will hate, and the other he will love; or one he will hold to, and of the other he will be heedless; ye are not able to serve God and mammon.'

¹⁴ And also the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were deriding him,

¹⁵ and he said to them, 'Ye are those declaring yourselves righteous before men, but God doth know your hearts; because that which among men is high, is abomination before God;

¹⁶ the law and the prophets are till John; since then the reign of God is proclaimed good news, and every one doth press into it;

¹⁷ and it is easier to the heaven and the earth to pass away, than of the law one tittle to fall.

¹⁸ 'Every one who is sending away his wife, and marrying another, doth commit adultery; and every one who is marrying her sent away from a husband doth commit adultery.
