¹⁹ Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day:

²⁰ and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; yea, even the dogs came and licked his sores.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried.

²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ Jesus also said MET, “Once there was a rich man who wore expensive purple linen garments. He ate luxuriously every day.

²⁰ And every day a poor man whose name was Lazarus was laid { some people also laid a poor man whose name was Lazarus} at the gate of the rich man's house. Lazarus' body was covered with sores.

²¹ He was so hungry that he wanted to eat the scraps of food that fell from the table where the rich man ate. Furthermore, to make things worse, dogs came and licked his sores.

²² Eventually the poor man died. Then he was taken by the angels {the angels took him} to start feasting next to his ancestor Abraham. The rich man also died, and his body was buried { some people buried his body}.

²³ In the place where dead people wait for God to judge them, he was suffering great pain. He looked up and saw Abraham far away, and he saw Lazarus sitting close to Abraham.

¹⁹ Now there was a certain man of great wealth, who was dressed in fair clothing of purple and delicate linen, and was shining and glad every day.

²⁰ And a certain poor man, named Lazarus, was stretched out at his door, full of wounds,

²¹ Desiring the broken bits of food which came from the table of the man of wealth; and even the dogs came and put their tongues on his wounds.

²² And in time the poor man came to his end, and angels took him to Abraham's breast. And the man of wealth came to his end, and was put in the earth.

²³ And in hell, being in great pain, lifting up his eyes he saw Abraham, far away, and Lazarus on his breast.

¹⁹ Now there was a rich man and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, making good cheer in splendour every day.

²⁰ And there was a poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his gateway full of sores,

²¹ and desiring to be filled with the crumbs which fell from the table of the rich man; but the dogs also coming licked his sores.

²² And it came to pass that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the angels into the bosom of Abraham. And the rich man also died and was buried.

²³ And in hades lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

²⁰ And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, full of sores,

²¹ Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table, and no one did give him; moreover the dogs came, and licked his sores.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell.

²³ And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom:

¹⁹ “Now there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself splendidly every day.

²⁰ But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate,

²¹ and longing to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. And even the dogs came and would lick his sores.

²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ “Now there was a certain rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.

²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate,

²¹ just wanting to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table—why even the dogs would come and lick his sores!

²² In due time the beggar died and was carried away to Abraham's bosom by the angels. “The rich man also died and was buried.

²³ And in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham at a distance, and Lazarus very close to him. And being in torment,

¹⁹ Once there was a man who was rich. He wore purple clothes and fine linen, and enjoyed a luxurious life.

²⁰ A beggar named Lazarus used to sit at his gate, covered in sores,

²¹ longing to eat the leftovers from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

²² Then the beggar died, and angels carried him away to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.

²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham in the far distance, with Lazarus beside him.

¹⁹ There was a certaine riche man, which was clothed in purple and fine linnen, and fared well and delicately euery day.

²⁰ Also there was a certaine begger named Lazarus, which was laide at his gate full of sores,

²¹ And desired to bee refreshed with the crommes that fell from the riche mans table: yea, and the dogges came and licked his sores.

²² And it was so that the begger died, and was caried by the Angels into Abrahams bosome. The rich man also died, and was buried.

²³ And being in hell in torments, he lift vp his eyes, and sawe Abraham a farre off, and Lazarus in his bosome.

²⁰ Near his gateway there had been laid a beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores,

²¹ and who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

²² After a time the beggar died, and was taken by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.

²³ In Hades he looked up in his torment, and saw Abraham at a distance and Lazarus at his side.

²² The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham Father of a multitude’s bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.

²³ In Hades / Sh'ol ·Place of the dead·, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham Father of a multitude far off, and Lazarus Help of God at Abraham's bosom, (the righteous side of Sheol).

¹⁹ Jesus told them another picture story. He said, “There was a rich man that always wore real good clothes, and he always had plenty of good food to eat.

²⁰ And there was a very poor man, called Lazarus, that had a lot of sores on his body. He was hungry, but he had nothing to eat, so he lay down at the gate of the rich man’s house.

²¹ He hoped he might get some of the rubbish food that the rich man chucked away. That rich man didn’t give him any good food. The dogs there used to lick that poor man’s sores.

²² Then one day the poor man died, and God sent his angel messengers to get him and take him to heaven to be with Abraham, our grand-father of a long time ago. Then later the rich man died, and his family buried his body.

²³ But he went to the bad place called hell. He was in a big fire in that place, and it hurt him a lot. Then he looked up and he saw Abraham, a long way off, and he saw Lazarus there with Abraham.

¹⁹ Ther was a certayne ryche man which was clothed in purple and fyne bysse and fared deliciously every daye.

²⁰ And ther was a certayne begger named Lazarus whiche laye at his gate full of soores

²¹ desyringe to be refresshed with the cromes whiche fell from the ryche manes borde. Neverthelesse the dogges came and licked his soores.

²² And that fortuned that the begger dyed and was caried by the angelles into Abrahams bosome. The riche man also died and was buried.

²³ And beinge in hell in tormentes he lyfte vp his eyes and sawe Abraham a farre of and Lazarus in his bosome

²² It came about that the beggar died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried,

²³ and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus at his side.

²⁰ And there was a beggar, Lazarus by name, that lay at his gate full of boils,

²¹ and coveted to be fulfilled of or with the crumbs, that fell down from the rich man’s board, and no man gave to him; but hounds came, and licked his boils.

²² And it was done, that the beggar died, and was borne of angels into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man was dead also, and was buried in hell.

²³ And he raised up his eyes, when he was in torments, and saw Abraham afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ There was a rich man, and (he) was clothed in purple, and white silk, and ate every day shiningly.

²⁰ And there was a beggar, Lazarus by name, that lay at his gate full of boils,

²¹ and coveted to be fulfilled of the crumbs +or coveting to be filled with the crumbs, that fell down from the rich man’s board (or table), and no man gave to him; but (the) hounds came, and licked his boils.

²² And it was done, that the beggar died, and was borne of (the) angels (or was carried by the angels) into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man was dead also, and was buried in hell.

²³ And he raised up his eyes, when he was in torments, and saw Abraham afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ There was a riche man, and was clothid in purpur, and whit silk, and eete euery dai schynyngli.

²⁰ And there was a begger, Lazarus bi name, that lai at his yate ful of bilis,

²¹ and coueitide to be fulfillid of the crummes, that fellen doun fro the riche mannus boord, and no man yaf to hym; but houndis camen, and lickiden hise bilis.

²² And it was don, that the begger diede, and was borun of aungels in to Abrahams bosum.

²³ And the riche man was deed also, and was biried in helle. And he reiside hise iyen, whanne he was in turmentis, and say Abraham afer, and Lazarus in his bosum.

¹⁹ 'And — a certain man was rich, and was clothed in purple and fine linen, making merry sumptuously every day,

²⁰ and there was a certain poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his porch, full of sores,

²¹ and desiring to be filled from the crumbs that are falling from the table of the rich man; yea, also the dogs, coming, were licking his sores.

²² 'And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham — and the rich man also died, and was buried;

²³ and in the hades having lifted up his eyes, being in torments, he doth see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom,
