¹⁶ And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger!

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:

¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son.

²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

²³ and bring the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat, and make merry:

¹⁶ Because he was very hungry, he would have been glad to eat the bean pods that the pigs ate. But no one gave him anything to eat.

¹⁷ Finally he thought clearly about what he had done. He said to himself, ‘All of my father's hired servants have plenty of food! They have more SYN than they can eat, but here I am dying because I do not have anything to eat HYP!

¹⁸ So I will leave here and go back to my father. I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against God MTY, EUP and against you (sg).

¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called {of you calling me} your son. Just hire me to be like one of the other hired servants.”’

²⁰ So he left there and went back to his father's house. But while he was still some distance from the house, his father saw him. He pitied him. He ran to his son and embraced him and kissed him on the cheek.

²¹ His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against God MTY/EUP and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called {of you calling me} your son.’

²² But his father said to his servants, ‘Go quickly and bring to me the best robe in the house! Then put it on my son. Put a ring on his finger to show that I am honoring him again as my son! Put sandals on his feet to show that I do not consider him to be a slave!

²³ Then bring the fat calf and kill it and cook it. We (inc) must eat and celebrate,

¹⁶ He wanted to fill his belly with the pods that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.

¹⁷ But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough to spare, and I’m dying with hunger!

²³ Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let’s eat and celebrate;

¹⁶ And so great was his need that he would have been glad to take the pigs' food, and no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ But when he came to his senses, he said, What numbers of my father's servants have bread enough, and more, while I am near to death here through need of food!

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have done wrong, against heaven and in your eyes:

¹⁹ I am no longer good enough to be named your son: make me like one of your servants.

²⁰ And he got up and went to his father. But while he was still far away, his father saw him and was moved with pity for him and went quickly and took him in his arms and gave him a kiss.

²¹ And his son said to him, Father, I have done wrong, against heaven and in your eyes: I am no longer good enough to be named your son.

²² But the father said to his servants, Get out the first robe quickly, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet:

²³ And get the fat young ox and put it to death, and let us have a feast, and be glad.

¹⁶ And he longed to fill his belly with the husks which the swine were eating; and no one gave to him.

¹⁷ And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have abundance of bread, and I perish here by famine.

¹⁸ I will rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee;

¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

²⁰ And he rose up and went to his own father. But while he was yet a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell upon his neck, and covered him with kisses.

²¹ And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; I am no longer worthy to be called thy son.

²² But the father said to his bondmen, Bring out the best robe and clothe him in it, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet;

²³ and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry:

¹⁶ And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat; and no man gave unto him.

¹⁷ And returning to himself, he said: How many hired servants in my father’s house abound with bread, and I here perish with hunger?

¹⁸ I will arise, and will go to my father, and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee:

¹⁹ I am not worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

²⁰ And rising up he came to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and running to him fell upon his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ And the son said to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, I am not now worthy to be called thy son.

²² And the father said to his servants: Bring forth quickly the first robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

²³ And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and make merry:

¹⁶ And he was longing to fill his stomach with the carob pods which the swine were eating, and no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ “But having come to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have an abundance of bread, and I am perishing with hunger!

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

¹⁹ and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’

²⁰ “And he arose and went to his father. But when he was still far off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and he ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

²¹ And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

²³ And bring the fatted calf here and slaughter it, and let us eat and be merry;

¹⁶ He would gladly have filled his stomach with the carob pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said: ‘How many of my father's hired servants have an abundance of bread, while I am dying of hunger!

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

¹⁹ and I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired servants.’

²⁰ “So he got up and went to his own father. But while he was still a good ways off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion—he ran and fell on his neck and kissed him!

²¹ Then the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² But the father said to his slaves: ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

²³ And bring in and kill the fatted calf, and let us eat and celebrate;

¹⁶ He was so hungry that he would have eaten even the pig food, but no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ When he came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘All of my father's workers have more than enough to eat—why am I dying from hunger here?

¹⁸ I'm going home to my father! I'll tell him, Father, I've sinned against heaven and against you.

¹⁹ I'm no longer worthy to be called your son. Please treat me as one of your hired workers.’

²⁰ So he left and went home to his father. Even though he was still far away in the distance, his father saw him coming, and his heart went out to his son. The father ran to his son, hugging and kissing him.

²¹ The son said to him, ‘Father, I've sinned against heaven and against you. I'm no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² But the father told his servants, ‘Quick—bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

²³ Bring the calf we've been fattening and kill it. Let's have a feast to celebrate

¹⁶ And hee would faine haue filled his bellie with the huskes, that the swine ate: but no man gaue them him.

¹⁷ Then he came to him selfe, and said, Howe many hired seruaunts at my fathers haue bread ynough, and I die for hunger?

¹⁸ I wil rise and goe to my father, and say vnto him, Father, I haue sinned against heaue, and before thee,

¹⁹ And am no more worthy to be called thy sonne: make me as one of thy hired seruants.

²⁰ So hee arose and came to his father, and when hee was yet a great way off, his father sawe him, and had compassion, and ranne and fell on his necke, and kissed him.

²¹ And the sonne sayde vnto him, Father, I haue sinned against heauen, and before thee, and am no more worthie to be called thy sonne.

²² Then the father said to his seruaunts, Bring foorth the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feete,

²³ And bring the fat calfe, and kill him, and let vs eate, and be merie:

¹⁶ And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

¹⁶ Then he was looking after the pigs. His boss didn't give him anything to eat. He was very hungry for the pigs’ rubbishy food.

¹⁷ At last he realized. “My father’s work men are eating good food till they're full, and I here am starving, from starvation I might die.

¹⁸ I will go, I will return to my father, I will tell him, ‘Father, I have done wrong. I have disobeyed God and I have disobeyed you.

¹⁹ Don't call me your son, just tell me I will be your worker, I will work for you.’#”

²⁰ A short time later went, he returned to his father's place. His father saw him from a distance. He felt sorry for him, he ran to meet his son. He hugged him, and they cried for each other.

²¹ The son told him, “Father, I have done wrong (things). I have disobeyed God and I have disobeyed you. Don't call me your son.”

²² In response the father didn't listen to his son. He told his workers, “Quick! Get some nice clothes for him, put them on him, and put shoes on his feet. Then put a ring on his finger.

²³ Then get the bullock, the fat one, kill it, and after you've killed it, cook it. Then we will all eat for my son. We'll truly be happy!

¹⁶ And he longed to fill himself with the husks that the swine ate; and no one gave to him.

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger!

²² But the father turned to his servants and said ‘Be quick and fetch a robe — the very best — and put it on him; give him a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet;

²³ and bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry;

²¹ ‘Father,’ the son said, ‘I sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer fit to be called your son; make me one of your hired servants.’

²² But the father turned to his servants and said ‘Be quick and fetch a robe — the very best — and put it on him; give him a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet;

²³ and bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry;

¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many hired servants of my Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad· have bread enough to spare, and I’m dying with hunger!

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·, and will tell him, “ Abba ·Father·, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.

¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”’

²⁰ “He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ The son said to him, ‘ Abba ·Father·, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² “But the Abba father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.

²³ Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate;

¹⁶ That boy was so hungry he wanted to eat the garbage that the pigs ate, but nobody gave him anything to eat.

¹⁷ At last he started to think properly. He thought, ‘Those men who work for my dad in his garden back home, they always get enough to eat. But I am getting so hungry that I reckon I will die in this place.

¹⁸ So I will get up now and go back home to my dad, and I will say to him, “Dad, I’m sorry, I went wrong. I did wrong to God, and I did wrong to you.

¹⁹ So now I’m not good enough for you to call me your son, but just let me have a job in your garden. I will work for you, and you can just call me your working man.” ’

²⁰ So he got up and started to go back to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming, walking up the road. His father felt real sorry for him. He got up and ran to his son and hugged him and kissed him.

²¹ Then the boy said, ‘Dad, I’m sorry, I went wrong. I did wrong to God, and I did wrong to you. So now I’m not good enough for you to call me your son.’

²² But his father said to his working men there, ‘Go and get some really good clothes and put them on him. And be quick. And get him a ring for his finger, and get some shoes for his feet.

²³ And get a fat young bullock, and kill it, and cook the meat, so we can all have a big party.

¹⁶ And he wold fayne have filled his bely with the coddes that the swyne ate: and noo man gave him.

¹⁷ Then he came to him selfe and sayde: how many hyred servauntes at my fathers have breed ynough and I dye for honger.

¹⁸ I will aryse and goo to my father and will saye vnto him: father I have synned agaynst heven and before the

¹⁹ and am no moare worthy to be called thy sonne make me as one of thy hyred servauntes.

²⁰ And he arose and went to his father. And when he was yet a greate waye of his father sawe him and had compassion and ran and fell on his necke and kyssed him.

²¹ And the sonne sayd vnto him: father I have synned agaynst heven and in thy sight and am no moare worthy to be called thy sonne.

²² But his father sayde to his servautes: bringe forth that best garment and put it on him and put a rynge on his honde and showes on his fete.

²³ And bringe hidder that fatted caulfe and kyll him and let vs eate and be mery:

¹⁶ He would gladly have eaten the carob pods that the pigs ate, because no one gave him anything.

¹⁷ But when the young son came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough food, and I am here, dying from hunger!

¹⁸ I will leave here and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired servants.”'

²⁰ So the young son left and came toward his father. While he was still far away, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and he ran and embraced him and kissed him.

²¹ The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

²² The father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and sandals on his feet.

²³ Then bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us celebrate with a feast!

¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight.

¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”’

²⁰ “He arose and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran, fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

²³ Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let’s eat and celebrate;

¹⁶ And he coveted to fill his womb of the pods that the hogs ate, and no man gave to him.

¹⁷ And he turned again to himself, and said, How many hired men in my father’s house have plenty of loaves; and I perish here through hunger.

¹⁸ I shall rise up, and go to my father, and I shall say to him, Father, I have sinned into or against heaven, and before thee;

¹⁹ and now I am not worthy to be called thy son, make me as one of thine hired men.

²⁰ And he rose up, and came to his father. And when he was yet afar, his father saw him, and was stirred by mercy. And he ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²¹ And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned into or against heaven, and before thee; and now I am not worthy to be called thy son.

²² And the father said to his servants, Swiftly bring ye forth the first stole, and clothe ye him, and give ye a ring in his hand, and shoes on his feet;

²³ and bring ye a fat calf or a calf made fat, and slay ye, and eat we, and make we feast.

¹⁶ And he coveted to fill his womb of the pods that the hogs ate, and no man gave (anything) to him. (And he desired to fill his belly with the pods which the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything to eat.)

¹⁶ And he coueitide to fille his wombe of the coddis that the hoggis eeten, and no man yaf hym.

¹⁷ And he turnede ayen to hym silf, and seide, Hou many hirid men in my fadir hous han plente of looues; and Y perische here thorouy hungir.

¹⁸ Y schal rise vp, and go to my fadir, and Y schal seie to hym, Fadir, Y haue synned in to heuene, and bifor thee;

¹⁹ and now Y am not worthi to be clepid thi sone, make me as oon of thin hirid men.

²⁰ And he roos vp, and cam to his fadir. And whanne he was yit afer, his fadir saiy hym, and was stirrid bi mercy. And he ran, and fel on his necke, and kisside hym.

²¹ And the sone seide to hym, Fadir, Y haue synned in to heuene, and bifor thee; and now Y am not worthi to be clepid thi sone.

²² And the fadir seide to hise seruauntis, Swithe brynge ye forth the firste stoole, and clothe ye hym, and yyue ye a ryng in his hoond,

²³ and schoon on hise feet; and brynge ye a fat calf, and sle ye, and ete we, and make we feeste.

¹⁶ and he was desirous to fill his belly from the husks that the swine were eating, and no one was giving to him.

¹⁷ 'And having come to himself, he said, How many hirelings of my father have a superabundance of bread, and I here with hunger am perishing!

¹⁸ having risen, I will go on unto my father, and will say to him, Father, I did sin — to the heaven, and before thee,

¹⁹ and no more am I worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hirelings.

²⁰ 'And having risen, he went unto his own father, and he being yet far distant, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and having ran he fell upon his neck and kissed him;

²¹ and the son said to him, Father, I did sin — to the heaven, and before thee, and no more am I worthy to be called thy son.

²² 'And the father said unto his servants, Bring forth the first robe, and clothe him, and give a ring for his hand, and sandals for the feet;

²³ and having brought the fatted calf, kill it, and having eaten, we may be merry,
