¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath.

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?

¹⁷ And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

¹⁸ He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it?

¹⁹ It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof.

²⁰ And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

²¹ It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

²² And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem.

²³ And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them,

²⁴ Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

²⁵ When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are;

²⁶ then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets;

²⁷ and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

²⁸ There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without.

²⁹ And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.

³¹ In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee.

¹⁸ Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

²⁰ And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

²² And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

²³ Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

³¹ In that very hour there came certain Pharisees, saying to him, Get thee out, and go hence: for Herod would fain kill thee.

¹⁴ But the man in charge ◄of the synagogue/of the meeting place► was angry because Jesus had healed her ◄on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►. He considered that healing was doing work. So he said to the people, “There are six days each week in which our Jewish laws permit people to work. If you need healing, those are the days to come ◄ to the synagogue/to the meeting place► and be healed. Do not come on our Jewish day of rest!”

¹⁵ Then the Lord replied to him, “You (sg) and your fellow religious leaders are hypocrites! ◄On the Sabbath/On our Jewish day of rest►, just like on every other day, ◄each of you unties his ox or donkey, and then leads it from the food trough to where it can drink water./does not each of you untie his ox or donkey, and then lead it from the food trough to where it can drink water?► RHQ That is work, too!

¹⁶ This woman is more important than an animal; she is a Jew, descended from Abraham! But Satan has kept her MET crippled for eighteen years, as though he had tied her up and not let her escape! So ◄it is certainly right that she be freed {that I free her}, even if this is a Sabbath day!/was it not right that she be freed {that I free her}, even if this is a Jewish rest day?► RHQ”

¹⁷ After Jesus said that, all the people there who opposed him were ashamed. But all the other people there were happy about all the wonderful things he was doing.

¹⁸ Then Jesus said, “◄I will tell you how the number of people who let God rule MET their lives will increase./Do you know how the number of people who let God rule MET their lives will increase?► RHQ I will tell you what I can compare it to.

¹⁹ It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in his field. It grew until it became big, like a tree. It was so big that birds built nests in its branches.”

²⁰ Then he said, “I will tell RHQ you something else, to illustrate how the people who let God rule MET their lives can influence their society more and more.

²¹ It is like a little bit of yeast that a woman mixed with about fifty pounds of flour. That small amount of yeast made the whole batch of dough swell up.”

²² Jesus continued traveling, along with his disciples, through various towns and villages on the way to Jerusalem. As they went, he was teaching the people.

²³ Someone asked him, “Lord, will there be only a few people who are saved {whom God saves}?” He replied to them, “ There will not be many, because the way to heaven MET is like a narrow door.

²⁴ Therefore, try hard to enter that narrow doorway, because I tell you that many people will try to enter heaven by some other way, but they will not be able to get in.

²⁵ God is like the owner of a house. Some day he will lock his door. Then some of you will begin to stand outside that door and knock. You will say, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘ No, I will not open it, because I do not know you, and I do not know where you are from!’

²⁶ Then you will say, ‘◄ You must have forgotten!/Surely you know us, because► RHQ we (exc) ate meals with you (sg), and you taught people in the streets of our towns’!

²⁷ But he will say, ‘ I tell you again, I do not know you, and I do not know where you are from. You are wicked people! Get away from here!’”

²⁸ Then Jesus continued, saying, “ From where God will send you, you will see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the distance. All the prophets who lived long ago will also be there, in the kingdom where God is ruling. But you will be outside, crying and grinding your teeth because you will have severe pain!

²⁹ Furthermore, many non-Jewish people will be inside. There will be ones who have come from lands to the north, east, south, and west. They will be feasting in ◄that place where God is ruling/God's kingdom►.

³⁰ Think about this: Some people whom others do not consider important now, God will make them very important then, and some people whom others consider very important now, God will make to be not important then.”

³¹ At that very time, some Pharisees came and said to Jesus, “Leave this area, because the ruler Herod Antipas wants to kill you (sg)!”

¹⁴ The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!”

¹⁵ Therefore the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath and lead him away to water?

¹⁶ Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

¹⁸ He said, “What is God’s Kingdom like? To what shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his own garden. It grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky live in its branches.”

²⁰ Again he said, “To what shall I compare God’s Kingdom?

²¹ It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”

²² He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem.

²³ One said to him, “Lord, are they few who are saved?” He said to them,

¹⁴ And the ruler of the Synagogue was angry because Jesus had made her well on the Sabbath, and he said to the people, There are six days in which men may do work: so come on those days to be made well, and not on the Sabbath.

¹⁵ But the Lord gave him an answer and said, O you false men! do you not, every one of you, on the Sabbath, let loose his ox and his ass and take it to the water?

¹⁶ And is it not right for this daughter of Abraham, who has been in the power of Satan for eighteen years, to be made free on the Sabbath?

¹⁷ And when he said these things, those who were against him were shamed, and all the people were full of joy because of the great things which were done by him.

¹⁸ Then he said, What is the kingdom of God like? what comparison may I make of it?

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his garden, and it became a tree, and the birds of heaven made their resting-places in its branches.

²⁰ And again he said, What is the kingdom of God like?

²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman put into three measures of meal, and it was all leavened.

²² And he went on his way, through towns and country places, teaching and journeying to Jerusalem.

²³ And someone said to him, Lord, will only a small number have salvation? And he said to them,

²⁴ Do your best to go in by the narrow door, for I say to you, A number will make the attempt to go in, but will not be able to do so.

²⁵ When the master of the house has got up, and the door has been shut, and you, still outside, give blows on the door, saying, Lord, let us in; he will make answer and say, I have no knowledge of where you come from.

²⁶ Then you will say, We have taken food and drink with you, and you were teaching in our streets.

²⁷ But he will say, Truly, I have no knowledge of you or where you come from; go away from me, you workers of evil.

²⁸ There will be weeping and cries of sorrow when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves are shut outside.

²⁹ And they will come from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south, and take their places in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ And the last will be first, and the first will be last.

³¹ At that time, certain Pharisees came to him and said, Go away from this place, because Herod's purpose is to put you to death.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath, answering said to the crowd, There are six days in which people ought to work; in these therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

¹⁵ The Lord therefore answered him and said, Hypocrites! does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the manger and leading it away, water it?

²⁰ And again he said: Whereunto shall I esteem the kingdom of God to be like?

²¹ It is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

²² And he went through the cities and towns teaching, and making his journey to Jerusalem.

²³ And a certain man said to him: Lord, are they few that are saved? But he said to them:

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and he said to the crowd, “There are six days in which one should work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”

¹⁵ The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

¹⁶ So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound these eighteen years, should she not be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”

¹⁷ And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things which were done by Him.

¹⁸ Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”

²⁰ Again He said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?

²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it was all leavened.”

²² And He was traveling through various cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

²³ Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them,

²⁴ “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

²⁵ When once the Master of the house has risen up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and answering He will say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from.’

²⁶ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’

²⁷ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’

²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out.

²⁹ And they will come from the east and the west, and the north and the south, and will recline to eat in the kingdom of God.

³¹ On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and go from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

¹⁸ Then He said: “What is the Kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden; and it grew and became a sizable tree, and the birds of the air perched on its branches.”

²⁰ Again He said: “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God?

²¹ It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”

²² He was traveling through various towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.

²³ Then someone said to Him, “Lord, are the ones being saved few?” So He said to them:

²⁴ “Exert yourselves to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will try to enter and not manage it.

²⁵ When once the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ and in answer he will say to you, ‘I do not know you; where are you from?’

²⁶ then you will begin by saying, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

²⁷ But he will say: ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.’

²⁸ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown out.

²⁹ They will even come from the east, the west, the north and the south, and recline in the Kingdom of God.

³⁰ Yes indeed, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

³¹ On that same day some Pharisees approached saying to Him, “Get out of here and go away, because Herod wants to kill you.”

¹⁴ However, the synagogue leader was upset that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. He said to the crowd, “There are six days for work. Come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn't every one of you untie your ox or donkey from the stall and take it to drink?

¹⁶ Why shouldn't this woman, this daughter of Abraham whom Satan has kept tied up for eighteen years, be untied and set free this Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ What he said shamed all his opponents, but everyone in the crowd was delighted by all the wonderful things he was doing.

¹⁸ Then Jesus asked, “So what is the kingdom of God like? What should I compare it to?

¹⁹ It's like a mustard seed that a man planted in his garden. It grew into a tree, and the birds came and nested in its branches.”

²⁰ He asked again, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to?

²¹ It's like yeast that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour which made the whole batch rise.”

²² Jesus went around the towns and villages, teaching on his way to Jerusalem.

²³ Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” Jesus replied,

²⁴ “Try very hard to enter the narrow doorway, because I tell you that many will try to go in, and won't succeed.

²⁵ Once the house owner gets up and closes the door, you'll be standing outside knocking on the door, saying, ‘Master, please open the door for us.’ But he'll reply, ‘I don't know you or where you're from.’

²⁶ Then you'll say, ‘But we ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets!’

²⁷ He'll reply, ‘I tell you, I don't know you or where you're from. Get away from me, all of you who don't do what's good!’

²⁸ There will be crying and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you are thrown out.

²⁹ People will come from the east and the west, the north and the south, and they will sit down to eat in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ For the last shall be first, and the first shall be last.”

³¹ At that moment some Pharisees came to Jesus and told him, “You should leave here. Herod wants to kill you!”

¹⁴ And the ruler of the Synagogue answered with indignation, because that Iesus healed on the Sabbath day, and said vnto the people, There are sixe dayes in which men ought to worke: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.

¹⁵ Then answered him the Lord, and said, Hypocrite, doth not eche one of you on the Sabbath day loose his oxe or his asse from the stall, and leade him away to the water?

¹⁶ And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, loe, eighteene yeeres, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

¹⁷ And when he said these things, all his aduersaries were ashamed: but all the people reioyced at all the excellent things, that were done by him.

¹⁸ Then said he, What is the kingdome of God like? or whereto shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a graine of mustard seede, which a man tooke and sowed in his garden, and it grewe, and waxed a great tree, and the foules of the heauen made nestes in the branches thereof.

²⁰ And againe he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdome of God?

²¹ It is like leauen, which a woman tooke, and hid in three peckes of floure, till all was leauened.

²² And he went through all cities and townes, teaching, and iourneying towards Hierusalem.

²³ Then saide one vnto him, Lord, are there fewe that shalbe saued? And he said vnto them,

²⁴ Striue to enter in at the straite gate: for many, I say vnto you, will seeke to enter in, and shall not be able.

²⁶ Then shall ye begin to say, We haue eaten and drunke in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streetes.

²⁷ But he shall say, I tell you, I knowe you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquitie.

¹⁵ “You hypocrites!” the Master answered him. “Does not everyone of you let your ox or your ass loose from its manger, and take it out to drink, on the Sabbath?

¹⁶ But this woman, a daughter of Abraham, who has been kept in bondage by Satan for now eighteen years, ought not she to have been released from her bondage on the Sabbath?”

¹⁷ As he said this, his opponents all felt ashamed; but all the people rejoiced to see all the wonderful things that he was doing.

¹⁸ So Jesus said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what can I liken it?

²⁵ when once the master of the house has got up and shut the door, while you begin to say, as you stand outside and knock, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ His answer will be — ‘I do not know where you come from.’

¹⁸ He said, “What is God’s Kingdom like? To what shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and put in his own garden. It grew, and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky live in its branches.”

²⁰ Again he said, “To what shall I compare God’s Kingdom?

²¹ It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”

²² He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem City of peace.

²³ One said to him, “Lord, are they few who are saved?” He said to them,

²⁴ “Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.

²⁵ When once the master of the house has risen up, and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

²⁶ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham Father of a multitude, Isaac Laughter, Jacob Supplanter, and all the prophets, in God’s Kingdom, and yourselves being thrown outside.

²⁹ They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and will sit down in God’s Kingdom.

³⁰ Behold, there are some who are last who will be first, and there are some who are first who will be last.”

³¹ On that same day, some Pharisees Separated came, saying to him, “Get out of here, and go away, for Herod Heroic wants to kill you.”

¹⁴ But the boss of that meeting house was angry, because Jesus made a sick woman better on their rest day. So he told the people, “Listen, you mob. There are 6 days for work each week, so come on any one of those days and get him to make you better. But Saturday is our rest day. Don’t come on Saturday.”

¹⁵ Jesus said to him, “You mob are wrong. You say one thing, but you yourselves do something different. You work on Saturdays too. You see, you keep bullocks and donkeys tied up in your yards, and every day you untie them and take them out to a water hole to let them drink. You do that on Saturdays too.

¹⁶ Now look at this woman here. She belongs to Abraham’s family. But the boss of the devils, called Satan, he made her back bad a long time ago. It’s like he has kept her tied up with this problem for 18 years. So why can’t I untie her, even on a Saturday?”

¹⁷ When Jesus said those words, the bosses of that meeting house were ashamed, but all the people were happy, because Jesus was doing a lot of really good things there.

³¹ At that time, some of the law men called Pharisees came and said to Jesus, “The big boss called Herod wants to kill you, so you have to clear out. Go away from here.”

¹⁴ And the ruler of the sinagoge answered with indignacion (be cause that Iesus had healed on the saboth daye) and sayde vnto the people. Ther are sixe dayes in which men ought to worke: in them come and be healed and not on the saboth daye.

¹⁵ Then answered him the Lorde and sayd: Ypocrite doth not eache one of you on the saboth daye lowse his oxe or his asse from the stall and leade him to the water?

¹⁶ And ought not this doughter of Abraham whom Sathan hath bounde loo .xviii. yeares be lowsed from this bonde on the saboth daye?

¹⁷ And when he thus sayde all his adversaries were ashamed and all the people reioysed on all the excellent dedes that were done by him.

¹⁸ Then sayde he: What is the kyngdome of God lyke? or wherto shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is lyke a grayne of mustard seede which a man toke and sowed in his garden: and it grewe and wexed a greate tree and the foules of the ayer made nestes in the braunches of it.

²⁰ And agayne he sayde: wher vnto shall I lyken the kyngdome of god?

²¹ it is lyke leven which a woman toke and hidde in thre busshels of floure tyll all was thorow levended.

²² And he went thorow all maner of cities and tounes teachinge and iorneyinge towardes Ierusalem.

²³ Then sayde one vnto him: Lorde are ther feawe that shalbe saved? And he sayde vnto them:

²⁴ stryve with youre selves to enter in at the strayte gate: For many I saye vnto you will seke to enter in and shall not be able.

²⁵ When the good man of the housse is rysen vp and hath shett to the dore ye shall beginne to stonde with out and to knocke at the dore sayinge: Lorde lorde open vnto vs: and he shall answer and saye vnto you: I knowe you not whence ye are.

²⁶ Then shall ye begin to saye. We have eaten in thy presence and dronke and thou hast taught in oure stretes.

²⁷ And he shall saye: I tell you I knowe you not whence ye are: departe from me all the workers of iniquite.

²⁸ There shalbe wepinge and gnasshinge of teth when ye shall se Abraham and Isaac and Iacob and all the prophetes in the kyngdom of God and youre selves thrust oute at dores.

²⁹ And they shall come from the eest and from the weest and from the northe and from the southe and shall syt doune in the kyngdome of God.

³⁰ And beholde ther are last which shalbe fyrst: And ther are fyrst which shalbe last.

³¹ The same daye there came certayne of the pharises and sayd vnto him: Get the out of the waye and departe hence: for Herode will kyll the.

¹⁴ But the synagogue ruler was indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. So the ruler answered and said to the crowd, “There are six days in which it is necessary to work. Come and be healed then, not on the Sabbath day.”

¹⁵ The Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Does not each of you untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead it to drink on the Sabbath?

¹⁶ So too this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, should her bonds not be untied on the Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ As he said these things, all those who opposed him were ashamed, but the whole crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things he did.

¹⁹ It is like a mustard seed that a man took and threw into his garden, and it grew into a big tree, and the birds of heaven built their nests in its branches.”

²⁰ Again he said, “To what can I compare the kingdom of God?

²¹ It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of flour until it spread through all the flour.”

²² Then Jesus traveled through the towns and villages, teaching and making his way toward Jerusalem.

²³ Someone said to him, “Lord, are only a few people to be saved?” So he said to them,

²⁴ “Struggle to enter through the narrow door, because, I say to you, many will want to enter, but will not be able to enter.

²⁵ Once the owner of the house gets up and locks the door, then you will stand outside and pound the door and say, 'Lord, Lord, let us in.' He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know you or where you are from.'

²⁶ Then you will say, 'We ate and drank in front of you and you taught in our streets.'

²⁷ But he will reply, 'I say to you, I do not know where you are from. Get away from me, you evildoers!'

²⁸ There will be crying and the grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God's kingdom, but you are thrown out.

²⁹ They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and be seated at a table in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ Know this, those who are least important will be first, and those who are most important will be last.”

¹⁵ Therefore the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath and lead him away to water?

¹⁶ Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”

¹⁷ As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

¹⁸ He said, “What is God’s Kingdom like? To what shall I compare it?

¹⁹ It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his own garden. It grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky live in its branches.”

²⁰ Again he said, “To what shall I compare God’s Kingdom?

²¹ It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”

²² He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem.

²³ One said to him, “Lord, are they few who are saved?” He said to them,

²⁴ “Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.

²⁵ When once the master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

²⁶ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

²⁷ He will say, ‘I tell you, I don’t know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.’

²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God’s Kingdom, and yourselves being thrown outside.

²⁹ They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and will sit down in God’s Kingdom.

³⁰ Behold, there are some who are last who will be first, and there are some who are first who will be last.”

³¹ On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, “Get out of here and go away, for Herod wants to kill you.”

¹⁴ The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!”

²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

²² And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying towards Jerusalem.

²³ Then said one to him, Lord, are there few that are saved? And he said to them,

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

²⁵ When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are:

²¹ It is like to sourdough that a woman took, and hid it in three measures of meal, till all were soured.

²² And he went by cities and castles, teaching and making journey into Jerusalem.

²³ And a man said to him, Lord, if there be few, that be saved? And he said to them,

²⁵ For when the husbandman is entered, and the door is closed, ye shall begin to stand withoutforth, and knock at the door, and say, Lord, open to us. And he shall answer, and say to you, I know you not, of whence ye be.

²⁷ And he shall say to you, I know you not, of whence ye be; go away from me, all ye workers of wickedness.

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagogue answered, having disdain for Jesus had healed in the sabbath; and he said to the people, There be six days, in which it behooveth to work; therefore come ye in these, and be ye healed, and not in the day of sabbath. (And the leader of the synagogue spoke, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the people, There be six days, on which it behooveth to work; and so come here on them, and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.)

¹⁵ But the Lord answered to him, and said, Hypocrite, whether each of you untieth not in (or on) the sabbath his ox, or ass, from the cratch (or from the feed-trough), and leadeth (it) to water? +Forsooth the Lord answering to him said, Hypocrite, whether each of you in the sabbath untieth not his ox, or his ass, from the cratch, or the stall, and leadeth (it) to water?

¹⁶ Behooved it not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo! eighteen years, to be unbound of this bond in the day of sabbath? (or on the Sabbath day?)

¹⁸ Therefore he said, To what thing is the kingdom of God like? and to what thing shall I guess it to be like?

¹⁹ It is like to a corn of sinapi, which a man took, and cast into his garden or into his yard; and it waxed, and was made into a great tree, and fowls of the air rested in the branches thereof. (It is like a kernel, or a grain, of mustard seed, which a man took, and threw into his garden; and it grew, and was made into a great tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.)

²⁰ And again he said, To what thing shall I guess the kingdom of God like?

²¹ It is like to sourdough that a woman took, and hid it in three measures of meal, till all were soured. (It is like the yeast, or the leaven, which a woman took, and put it in three measures of meal, until all of it was leavened.)

²² And he went by cities and castles (or towns and villages), teaching and making journey into Jerusalem.

²³ And a man said to him, Lord, if there be few, that be saved? And he said to them,

²⁴ Strive ye to enter by the strait gate (or Strive to enter by the narrow gate); for I say to you, many seek to enter in, and they shall not be able (to).

²⁵ For when the husbandman is entered, and the door is closed, or For when the husbandman hath entered, and closed the door, ye shall begin to stand withoutforth, and knock at the door, and say, Lord, open to us. And he shall answer, and say to you, I know you not, of whence ye be.

²⁶ Then ye shall begin to say, We have eaten before thee and drunk or We have eaten and drunk before thee, and in our streets thou hast taught.

²⁷ And he shall say to you, I know you not, of whence ye be; go away from me, all ye workers of wickedness.

²⁸ There shall be weeping and grinding of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God; and you to be put out.

¹⁴ And the prince of the synagoge answerde, hauynge dedeyn for Jhesus hadde heelid in the sabat; and he seide to the puple, Ther ben sixe dayes, in whiche it bihoueth to worche; therfor come ye in these, and `be ye heelid, and not in the daie of sabat.

¹⁵ But the Lord answeride to hym, and seide, Ypocrite, whether ech of you vntieth not in the sabat his oxe, or asse, fro the cratche, and ledith to watir?

¹⁶ Bihofte it not this douytir of Abraham, whom Satanas hath boundun, lo! eiytetene yeeris, to be vnboundun of this boond in the dai of the sabat?

¹⁷ And whanne he seide these thingis, alle hise aduersaries weren aschamed, and al the puple ioiede in alle thingis, that weren gloriousli don of hym.

¹⁸ Therfor he seide, To what thing is the kyngdom of God lijk? and to what thing schal Y gesse it to be lijk?

¹⁹ It is lijk to a corn of seneuey, which a man took, and cast in to his yerd; and it wax, and was maad in to a greet tree, and foulis of the eire restiden in the braunchis therof.

²⁰ And eft soone he seide, To what thing schal Y gesse the kyngdom of God lijk?

²¹ It is lijk to sourdouy, that a womman took, and hidde it `in to thre mesuris of mele, til al were sourid.

²² And he wente bi citees and castels, techynge and makynge a iourney in to Jerusalem.

²³ And a man seide to hym, Lord, if there ben fewe, that ben saued? And he seide to hem,

²⁴ Stryue ye to entre bi the streite yate; for Y seie to you, many seken to entre, and thei schulen not mowe.

²⁵ For whanne the hosebonde man is entrid, and the dore is closid, ye schulen bigynne to stonde with out forth, and knocke at the dore, and seie, Lord, opyn to vs. And he schal answere, and seie to you, Y knowe you not, of whennus ye ben.

²⁶ Thanne ye schulen bigynne to seye, We han etun bifor thee and drunkun, and in oure streetis thou hast tauyt.

²⁷ And he schal seie to you, Y know you not, of whennus ye ben; go awei fro me, alle ye worcheris of wickidnesse.

²⁸ There schal be wepyng and gruntyng of teeth, whanne ye schulen se Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and alle the prophetis in the kyngdom of God; and you to be put out.

²⁹ And thei schulen come fro the eest and west, and fro the north and south, and schulen sitte `at the mete in the rewme of God.

³⁰ And lo! thei that weren the firste, ben the laste; and thei that weren the laste, ben the firste.

³¹ In that day sum of the Farisees camen nyy, and seiden to hym, Go out, and go fro hennus, for Eroude wole sle thee.

¹⁴ And the chief of the synagogue answering — much displeased that on the sabbath Jesus healed — said to the multitude, 'Six days there are in which it behoveth us to be working; in these, then, coming, be healed, and not on the sabbath-day.'

¹⁵ Then the Lord answered him and said, 'Hypocrite, doth not each of you on the sabbath loose his ox or ass from the stall, and having led away, doth water it?

¹⁸ And he said, 'To what is the reign of God like? and to what shall I liken it?

¹⁹ It is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, did cast into his garden, and it increased, and came to a great tree, and the fowls of the heavens did rest in its branches.'

²⁰ And again he said, 'To what shall I liken the reign of God?

²¹ It is like leaven, which a woman, having taken, did hide in three measures of meal, till that all was leavened.'

²² And he was going through cities and villages, teaching, and making progress toward Jerusalem;

²³ and a certain one said to him, 'Sir, are those saved few?' and he said unto them,

²⁴ 'Be striving to go in through the straight gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to go in, and shall not be able;

²⁵ from the time the master of the house may have risen up, and may have shut the door, and ye may begin without to stand, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, lord, open to us, and he answering shall say to you, I have not known you whence ye are,

²⁶ then ye may begin to say, We did eat before thee, and did drink, and in our broad places thou didst teach;

²⁷ and he shall say, I say to you, I have not known you whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of the unrighteousness.

²⁸ 'There shall be there the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth, when ye may see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the reign of God, and yourselves being cast out without;

²⁹ and they shall come from east and west, and from north and south, and shall recline in the reign of God,

³⁰ and lo, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.'

³¹ On that day there came near certain Pharisees, saying to him, 'Go forth, and be going on hence, for Herod doth wish to kill thee;'
