³¹ Yet seek ye his kingdom, and these things shall be added unto you.

³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

³³ Sell that which ye have, and give alms; make for yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief draweth near, neither moth destroyeth.

³⁴ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

³⁵ Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning;

³⁶ and be ye yourselves like unto men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage feast; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may straightway open unto him.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them.

³⁸ And if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

³⁹ But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have left his house to be broken through.

⁴⁰ Be ye also ready: for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

⁴³ Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

⁴⁴ Of a truth I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath.

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful.

⁴⁷ And that servant, who knew his lord’s will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes;

⁴⁸ but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom they commit much, of him will they ask the more.

⁴⁹ I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what do I desire, if it is already kindled?

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

⁵¹ Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

⁵² for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.

⁵⁴ And he said to the multitudes also, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it cometh to pass.

⁵⁵ And when ye see a south wind blowing, ye say, There will be a scorching heat; and it cometh to pass.

⁵⁶ Ye hypocrites, ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and the heaven; but how is it that ye know not how to interpret this time?

⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

³¹ Instead, be concerned about letting God completely direct your life. Then he will also give you enough of the things you need.

³² You who are my disciples are like a small flock of sheep, and I am like your shepherd. So you should not be afraid. Your Father in heaven wants to let you rule with him in heaven.

³³ So now sell the things that you own. Give the money that you get for those things to poor people. If you do that, it will be as though you are providing for yourselves purses that will not wear out, and God will give you a treasure in heaven that will always be safe. There, no thief can come near to steal it, and no termite can destroy it.

³⁴ Remember that the things that you think are the most valuable are the things that you will be constantly concerned about.”

³⁵ “Be always ready for doing God's work MET, like people who have put on their work clothes and are ready during the day, with their lamps burning all night.

³⁶ Be ready for me to return MET, like servants who are waiting for their master to return after being at a wedding feast for several days. They are waiting to open the door for him and start working for him again as soon as he arrives and knocks at the door.

³⁷ If those servants are awake when he returns, he will be very pleased with them. I will tell you this: He will put on the kind of clothes that servants wear and tell them to sit down, and he will serve them a meal.

³⁸ Even if he comes between midnight and sunrise, if he finds that his servants are awake and ready for him, he will be very pleased with them.

³⁹ But you must also remember this: If owners of a house knew what time a thief was coming, they would stay awake and would not allow their house to be broken into and their goods to be stolen { the thief to break into the house and steal their goods}.

⁴⁰ Similarly, you must be ready for me to return, because I, the one who came from heaven, will come again at a time when you do not expect me to come.”

⁴¹ Peter said, “Lord, are you (sg) speaking this illustration only for us or for everyone else also?”

⁴² The Lord replied, “ I am saying it for you and for anyone else MET, RHQ who is like a faithful and wise manager in his master's house. His master appoints him to supervise affairs in his house and to give all the other servants their food at the proper time. Then he leaves on a long trip.

⁴³ If the servant is doing that work when his master returns, his master will be very pleased with him.

⁴⁴ I tell you this: His master will appoint him to supervise all of his affairs permanently.

⁴⁵ But that servant might think to himself, ‘My master has been away for a long time, so he probably will not return soon and find out what I am doing.’ Then he might start to beat the other servants, both male and female ones. He might also start to eat a lot of food and get drunk.

⁴⁶ If he does that, and if his master returns on a day when the servant does not expect him, then his master will ◄cut him into two pieces/punish him severely► HYP and put him in the place where he puts all those who do not serve him faithfully.

⁴⁷ Every servant who knows what his master wants him to do but who does not get himself ready and does not do what his master desires will be beaten severely { The master will beat severely every servant who knows what his master wants him to do but who does not get himself ready and does not do what his master desires}.

⁴⁸ But every servant who did not know what his master wanted him to do, and who did things for which he deserved to be punished, will be beaten lightly { the master will beat lightly every servant who did not know what his master wanted him to do and did the things for which he deserved that his master would beat him}. God will treat his people similarly, because he expects a lot from those people whom he has allowed to understand a lot. People who entrust things to others' care expect those people to care for those things very well. Similarly, God expects a lot from those people whom he has allowed to understand a lot. Furthermore, he expects the most from people to whom he has given the most ability.”

⁴⁹ “I came to earth to cause there to be trials MET, which will purify you as fire purifies metal (OR, to cause judgment/divisions among you). I wish that the time when you will be purified {when God will purify you} (OR, when divisions will be caused {to cause divisions among people}) had already begun.

⁵⁰ I must soon suffer IDM greatly. I am distressed, and I will continue to be distressed until my suffering is finished.

⁵¹ Do you think that as a result of my coming to earth people will live together peacefully? No! I must tell you, that is not what will happen! Instead, people will be divided.

⁵² Because some people in one house will believe in me and some will not, they will be divided. For example, three people in one house who do not believe in me will oppose two who do believe, or two who do not believe in me will oppose three who do believe.

⁵³ A man will oppose his son, or a son will oppose his father. A woman will oppose her daughter, or a woman will oppose her mother. A woman will oppose her daughter-in-law, or a woman will oppose her mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ He also said to the crowds, “ In this country, when you see a dark cloud forming in the west, you immediately say ‘It is going to rain!’ and that is what happens.

⁵⁵ In this region, when the wind blows from the south, you say, ‘It is going to be a very hot day!’ and that is what happens.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites! By observing the clouds and the wind, you are able to discern what is happening regarding the weather. It is disgusting that you are not able to discern what God is doing at this present time RHQ!

⁵⁷ ◄Each of you ought to determine now what is the right thing for you to do, while you still have time to do that!/Why cannot each of you determine what is the right thing for you to do now while you still have time to do that?► RHQ

³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you that he will dress himself, make them recline, and will come and serve them.

³⁸ They will be blessed if he comes in the second or third watch and finds them so.

³⁹ But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

⁴⁰ Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you don’t expect him.”

⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you don’t interpret this time?

⁵⁷ “Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

³¹ But let your chief care be for his kingdom, and these other things will be given to you in addition.

³² Have no fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

³³ Give what property you have in exchange for money, and give the money to the poor; make for yourselves money-bags which will not get old, wealth stored up in heaven which will be yours for ever, where thieves will not come nor worms put it to destruction.

³⁴ For where your wealth is, there will your heart be.

³⁵ Be ready, dressed as for a journey, with your lights burning.

³⁶ And be like men who are looking for their lord, when he comes back from the bride-feast; so that when he comes to the door, it will be open to him quickly.

³⁷ Happy are those servants who are watching when the lord comes; truly I say to you, he will make himself their servant and, placing them at the table, he will come out and give them food.

³⁸ And if he comes in the second division of the night or in the third, and they are watching for him, happy are those servants.

³⁹ But be certain of this, that if the master of the house had had knowledge of the time when the thief was coming, he would have been watching, and would not have let his house be broken into.

⁴⁰ So be ready: for the Son of man is coming at a time when you are not looking for him.

⁴¹ And Peter said to him, Lord, are these words said to us only, or to all men?

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the wise and responsible servant whom his lord will put in control of his family, to give them their food at the right time?

⁴³ Happy is that servant who, when his lord comes, is doing so.

⁴⁴ Truly I say to you, he will put him in control of all his goods.

⁴⁵ But if that servant says to himself, My lord is a long time coming; and goes about giving blows to the men-servants and the women-servants, feasting and taking overmuch wine;

⁴⁶ The lord of that servant will come at a time when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not ready for him, and he will have him cut in two and will give him his part in the fate of those who have no faith;

⁴⁷ And the servant who had knowledge of his lord's desires and was not ready for him and did not do as he was ordered, will be given a great number of blows;

⁴⁸ But he who, without knowledge, did things for which punishment is given, will get only a small number of blows. The man to whom much is given, will have to give much; if much is given into his care, of him more will be requested.

⁴⁹ I came to send a fire on the earth, and it may even now have been lighted.

⁵⁰ But there is a baptism which I have to undergo; and how am I kept back till it is complete!

⁵¹ Is it your opinion that I have come to give peace on earth? I say to you, No, but division:

⁵² For from this time, a family of five in one house will be on opposite sides, three against two and two against three.

⁵³ They will be at war, the father against his son, and the son against his father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.

⁵⁴ Then he said to the people, When you see a cloud coming up in the west, straight away you say, There will be rain; and so it is.

⁵⁵ And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, There will be heat; and so it is.

⁵⁶ O false ones! the face of the earth and the heaven is clear to you; how is it that the signs of these times are not as clear to you?

⁵⁷ And why are you, in your hearts, unable to be judges of what is right?

³¹ but seek his kingdom, and all these things shall be added to you.

³² Fear not, little flock, for it has been the good pleasure of your Father to give you the kingdom.

³³ Sell what ye possess and give alms; make to yourselves purses which do not grow old, a treasure which does not fail in the heavens, where thief does not draw near nor moth destroy.

³⁴ For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

³⁵ Let your loins be girded about, and lamps burning;

³⁶ and ye like men who wait their own lord whenever he may leave the wedding, that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.

³⁷ Blessed are those bondmen whom the lord on coming shall find watching; verily I say unto you, that he will gird himself and make them recline at table, and coming up will serve them.

³⁸ And if he come in the second watch, and come in the third watch, and find them thus, blessed are those bondmen.

³⁹ But this know, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be dug through.

⁴⁰ And ye therefore, be ye ready, for in the hour in which ye do not think it, the Son of man comes.

⁴¹ And Peter said to him, Lord, sayest thou this parable to us, or also to all?

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and prudent steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give the measure of corn in season?

⁴³ Blessed is that bondman whom his lord on coming shall find doing thus;

⁴⁴ verily I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he has.

⁴⁵ But if that bondman should say in his heart, My lord delays to come, and begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and to drink and to be drunken,

⁴⁶ the lord of that bondman shall come in a day when he does not expect it, and in an hour he knows not of, and shall cut him in two and appoint his portion with the unbelievers.

⁴⁷ But that bondman who knew his own lord's will, and had not prepared himself nor done his will, shall be beaten with many stripes;

⁴⁸ but he who knew it not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. And to every one to whom much has been given, much shall be required from him; and to whom men have committed much, they will ask from him the more.

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptised with, and how am I straitened until it shall have been accomplished!

⁵¹ Think ye that I have come to give peace in the earth? Nay, I say to you, but rather division:

⁵² for from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided; three shall be divided against two, and two against three:

⁵³ father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

⁵⁴ And he said also to the crowds, When ye see a cloud rising out of the west, straightway ye say, A shower is coming; and so it happens.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it happens.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites, ye know how to judge of the appearance of the earth and of the heaven; how is it then that ye do not discern this time?

⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

³⁶ And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them.

³⁸ And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

³⁹ But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open.

⁴⁰ Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of man will come.

⁴¹ And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all?

⁴² And the Lord said: Who (thinkest thou) is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season?

⁴³ Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing.

⁴⁴ Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth.

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart: My lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk:

⁴⁶ The lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not, and at the hour that he knoweth not, and shall separate him, and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew the will of his lord, and prepared not himself, and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more.

⁴⁹ I am come to cast fire on the earth; and what will I, but that it be kindled?

⁵⁰ And I have a baptism wherewith I am to be baptized: and how am I straitened until it be accomplished?

⁵¹ Think ye, that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no; but separation.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the south wind blow, you say: There will be heat: and it cometh to pass.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites, you know how to discern the face of the heaven and of the earth: but how is it that you do not discern this time?

⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves, do you not judge that which is just?

³⁸ And if he comes in the second watch, or comes in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

⁴¹ Then Peter said to Him, “Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all people?”

⁴² And the Lord said, “Who then is a faithful and wise manager, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

⁴⁴ Truly I say to you, that he will appoint him over all his possessions.

⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,

⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day which he does not expect, and at an hour which he does not know, and he will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not get ready or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many blows.

⁴⁸ But he who did not know, yet did things worthy of blows, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been entrusted, of him they will ask much more.

⁵⁷ And why do you not judge what is right, even of yourselves?

³¹ Rather, concentrate on the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be provided for you.

³² “Do not fear, little flock, because it pleased the Father to give you the Kingdom.

³³ Sell your possessions and give to charity. Make for yourselves ‘purses’ that will not wear out, an unfailing treasure in the heavens, where a thief cannot approach, nor a moth destroy.

³⁴ Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

⁴¹ Then Peter said to Him, “Lord, are you directing this parable to us, or to everyone?”

⁴² So the Lord said: “Who then is the faithful and prudent steward whom his master will place over his household to give them the food allowance at the right time?

⁴³ Blessed is that slave whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

⁴⁴ I tell you truly that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

⁴⁵ But if that servant should say in his heart, ‘My master won't come for a while,’ and should begin to hit the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,

⁴⁶ the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two and appoint his portion with the unbelievers.

⁴⁷ “That servant who knew his master's will, but neither got ready nor did according to that will, will be beaten with many blows.

⁴⁸ But he who did not know, yet did things worthy of blows, will be beaten with few. Everyone to whom much has been given, from him much will be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him much more will be asked.

³³ Sell what you have, and give the money to the poor. Get yourselves purses that don't wear out: treasure in heaven that will never run out, where no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.

³⁴ For what you value the most shows who you really are.

³⁵ Be dressed and ready, and keep your lamps lit,

³⁶ like servants waiting for their master when he returns from his wedding feast, prepared to open the door quickly for him when he comes and knocks.

³⁷ How good it will be for those servants that the master finds watching when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will get dressed, have them sit down for a meal, and will come and serve them himself!

³⁸ Even if he comes at midnight, or just before dawn—how good for them if he finds them watching and ready!

³⁹ But remember this: if the master knew when a thief was coming, he would keep watch, and not allow his house be broken into.

⁴⁰ You must also be ready, for the Son of man is coming when you don't expect him.”

⁴¹ “Is this story you're telling just for us, or for everyone?” Peter asked.

⁴² The Lord replied, “Who then is the trustworthy and wise manager, the one person in the household that the master puts in charge to share out their food at the right time?

⁴³ It will be good for that servant when his master returns and finds him doing what he should.

⁴⁴ I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of everything.

⁴⁵ But what if the servant were to say to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and then starts beating the other servants, both men and women, feasting and getting drunk?

⁴⁶ That servant's master will return unexpectedly one day at a time he wasn't aware of, and will punish him severely, treating him as totally untrustworthy.

⁴⁷ That servant who knew what his master wanted and yet didn't get ready or follow his instructions, will be beaten severely;

⁴⁸ but the servant who didn't know and did things deserving punishment will be beaten only lightly. From those who are given much, much will be required, and from those who are entrusted with more, more will be demanded.

⁴⁹ I have come to set the earth on fire, and I really wish it was already burning!

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to go through, and I'm in agony, wishing it was over!

⁵¹ Do you think that I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, I bring division.

⁵² From now on, if there are five in a family, they will be divided against each other: three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ They will be divided against each other—father against son, son against father, mother against daughter, daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ Then Jesus spoke to the crowds. “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘a rain-shower's coming,’ and it happens.

⁵⁵ When a south wind blows, you say ‘it's going to be hot,’ and it is.

⁵⁶ You hypocrites, how is it that you know how to rightly interpret the weather but you don't know how to interpret the present time?

⁵⁷ Why don't you think for yourselves and judge what's the right thing to do?

³¹ But rather seeke ye after the kingdome of God, and all these things shalbe cast vpon you.

³² Feare not, litle flocke: for it is your Fathers pleasure, to giue you the kingdome.

³³ Sell that ye haue, and giue almes: make you bagges, which waxe not old, a treasure that can neuer faile in heauen, where no theefe commeth, neither mothe corrupteth.

³⁴ For where your treasure is, there will your hearts be also.

³⁵ Let your loynes be gird about and your lights burning,

³⁶ And ye your selues like vnto men that waite for their master, when he will returne from the wedding, that when he commeth and knocketh, they may open vnto him immediatly.

³⁷ Blessed are those seruants, whom the Lord when he commeth shall finde waking: verely I say vnto you, he will girde himselfe about, and make them to sit downe at table, and will come forth, and serue them.

³⁸ And if he come in the seconde watch, or come in the third watch, and shall finde them so, blessed are those seruants.

³⁹ Nowe vnderstand this, that if the good man of the house had knowen at what houre the theefe would haue come, he would haue watched, and would not haue suffered his house to be digged through.

⁴⁰ Be ye also prepared therefore: for the Sonne of man will come at an houre when ye thinke not.

⁴¹ Then Peter saide vnto him, Master, tellest thou this parable vnto vs, or euen to all?

⁴² And the Lord saide, Who is a faithfull steward and wise, whom the master shall make ruler ouer his householde, to giue them their portion of meate in season?

⁴³ Blessed is that seruant, whom his master when he commeth, shall finde so doing.

⁴⁴ Of a trueth I say vnto you, that he wil make him ruler ouer all that he hath.

⁴⁵ But if that seruant say in his heart, My master doeth deferre his comming, and ginne to smite the seruants, and maydens, and to eate, and drinke, and to be drunken,

⁴⁶ The master of that seruant will come in a day when he thinketh not, and at an houre when he is not ware of, and will cut him off, and giue him his portion with the vnbeleeuers.

⁴⁷ And that seruant that knewe his masters will, and prepared not himselfe, neither did according to his will, shalbe beaten with many stripes.

⁴⁸ But he that knewe it not, and yet did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with fewe stripes: for vnto whomsoeuer much is giuen, of him shalbe much required, and to whom men much commit, the more of him will they aske.

⁴⁹ I am come to put fire on the earth, and what is my desire, if it be already kindled?

⁵⁰ Notwithstanding I must be baptized with a baptisme, and how am I grieued, till it be ended?

⁵¹ Thinke ye that I am come to giue peace on earth? I tell you, nay, but rather debate.

⁵² For from hencefoorth there shall be fiue in one house deuided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ The father shalbe deuided against ye sonne, and the sonne against the father: the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother: the mother in lawe against her daughter in lawe, and the daughter in lawe against her mother in lawe.

⁴⁴ I say to you in truth, that he will place him in charge of all his substance.

⁴⁵ But if that servant say in his heart, My lord is long in coming; and begin to beat the men-servants and maid-servants, and to eat and drink and be drunken,

⁵² For from henceforth there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ The father will be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

⁵⁴ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, immediately ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

⁵⁵ And when ye perceive the south wind blowing, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

⁵⁶ Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky, and of the earth; but how is it, that ye do not discern this time?

⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

³¹ But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.

³² “Don’t be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.

³³ Sell what you have and give gifts to the needy. Make for yourselves purses which don’t grow old, a treasure in the heavens that doesn’t fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

³⁴ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

³⁵ “Let your waist be dressed and your lamps burning.

³⁶ Be like men watching for their lord when he returns from the wedding feast, that when he comes and knocks, they may immediately open to him.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you that he will dress himself, make them recline, and will come and serve them.

³⁸ They will be blessed if he comes in the second or third watch and finds them so.

³⁹ But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

⁴⁰ Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you don’t expect him.”

⁴¹ Peter said to him, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everybody?”

⁴² The Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the right times?

⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.

⁴⁴ Truly I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.

⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and to be drunken,

⁴⁶ then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he isn’t expecting him and in an hour that he doesn’t know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.

⁴⁷ That servant who knew his lord’s will, and didn’t prepare nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes,

⁴⁸ but he who didn’t know, and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. To whomever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked.

⁴⁹ “I came to throw fire on the earth. I wish it were already kindled.

⁵⁰ But I have a immersion to be immersed with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

⁵¹ Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division.

³⁷ Blessed be those servants, that when the lord shall come, he shall find waking. Truly I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit to or at the meat, and he shall go, and serve them.

³⁸ And if he come in the second waking, and if he come in the third waking, and find so, those servants be blessed.

³⁹ And know ye this thing, for if an husbandman knew, in what hour the thief would come, soothly he should wake, and not suffer his house to be under-mined.

⁴⁰ And be ye ready, for in what hour ye guess not, man’s Son shall come.

⁴¹ And Peter said to him, Lord, sayest thou this parable to us, or to all?

⁴² And the Lord said, Who, guessest thou, is a true or a faithful dispenser, and prudent, whom the lord hath ordained on his meine, to give them in time a measure of wheat?

⁴³ Blessed is that servant, that the lord when he cometh, shall find so doing.

⁴⁴ Verily I say to you, that on all things that he wieldeth, he shall ordain him.

⁴⁵ That if that servant say in his heart, My lord tarrieth to come; and begin to smite children, and hand-maidens, and eat, and drink, and be filled or full-filled over-measure,

⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come, in the day that he hopeth not, and in the hour that he knoweth not, and shall part him, and put his part with unfaithful men.

⁴⁷ But that servant that knew the will of his lord, and made not him ready, and did not after his will, shall be beaten with many beatings.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and did worthy things of strokes, shall be beaten with few. For to each man to whom much is given, much shall be asked of him; and they shall ask more of him, to whom they betook much.

⁴⁹ I came to send fire into the earth, and what will I, but that it be kindled?

⁵⁰ And I have to be baptized with a baptism, and how am I constrained, till that it be perfectly done?

⁵¹ Ween ye, or Guess ye, that I came to give peace into the earth? Nay, I say to you, but parting.

⁵² For from this time there shall be five parted in one house; three shall be parted against twain, and twain shall be parted against three;

⁵³ the father against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the husband’s mother against the son’s wife, and the son’s wife against her husband’s mother.

⁵⁴ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rising from the sun going down, anon ye say, Rain cometh; and so it is done.

⁵⁵ And when ye see the south blowing, ye say, That heat shall be; and it is done.

⁵⁶ Hypocrites, ye know how to prove the face of heaven and of earth, but how prove ye not this time?.

⁵⁷ But what and of yourselves ye deem not that that is just? Forsooth why and of yourselves deem ye not this thing that is just?

³⁴ For where is thy treasure, there thine heart shall be. Forsooth where thy treasure is, there also thine heart shall be.

³⁵ Be your loins girded above, and lanterns burning in your hands;

(and be like men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from a wedding, so that when he shall come, and knock, they open the door at once for him.)

³⁷ Blessed be those servants, that when the lord shall come, he shall find (them) waking. Truly I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit to (the) meat or sit at the meat, and he shall go, and serve them. (Blessed be those servants, who when their lord shall come back, he shall find them keeping watch. I tell you the truth, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down for the meal, and he shall go, and serve them.)

³⁸ And if he come in the second waking, and if he come in the third waking, and find so, those servants (shall) be blessed. (And if he come in the second watch, or in the third watch, and find them so, those servants shall be blessed.)

³⁹ And know ye this thing, for if an husbandman knew, in what hour the thief would come, soothly he should wake, and not suffer his house to be (under)mined, (or truly he would be on watch, and not allow his house to be undermined).

⁴⁰ And be ye ready, for in what hour ye guess not, man’s Son shall come.

⁴¹ And Peter said to him, Lord, sayest thou this parable to us, or to all?

⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come, in the day that he hopeth not, and in the hour that he knoweth not, and shall part him (or and shall divide him in pieces), and put his part with unfaithful men.

⁴⁷ But that servant that knew the will of his lord, and made not him(self) ready, and did not after his will, shall be beaten with many beatings.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and did worthy things of strokes, shall be beaten with few. For to each man to whom much is given, much shall be asked of him; and they shall ask more of him, to whom they betook much, (or and they shall ask more from him, to whom they have delivered, or entrusted, much).

³⁴ For where is thi tresoure, there thin herte schal be.

³⁵ Be youre leendis gird aboue, and lanternes brennynge in youre hoondis;

³⁶ and be ye lijk to men that abiden her lord, whanne he schal turne ayen fro the weddyngis, that whanne he schal come, and knocke, anoon thei openen to hym.

³⁷ Blessid be tho seruauntis, that whanne the lord schal come, he schal fynde wakynge. Treuli Y seie to you, that he schal girde hym silf, and make hem sitte to mete, and he schal go, and serue hem.

³⁸ And if he come in the secounde wakynge, and if he come in the thridde wakynge, and fynde so, tho seruauntis ben blessid.

³⁹ And wite ye this thing, for if an hosebonde man wiste, in what our the theef wolde come, sotheli he schulde wake, and not suffre his hous to be myned.

⁴⁰ And be ye redi, for in what our ye gessen not, mannus sone schal come.

⁴¹ And Petre seide to hym, Lord, seist thou this parable to vs, or to alle?

⁴² And the Lord seide, Who, gessist thou, is a trewe dispendere, and a prudent, whom the lord hath ordeyned on his meyne, to yyue hem in tyme mesure of whete?

⁴³ Blessid is that seruaunt, that the lord whanne he cometh, schal fynde so doynge.

⁴⁴ Verili Y seie to you, that on alle thingis that he weldith, he schal ordeyne hym.

⁴⁵ That if that seruaunt seie in his herte, My lord tarieth to come; and bigynne to smyte children, and handmaydenes, and ete, and drynke, and be fulfillid ouer mesure,

⁴⁶ the lord of that seruaunt schal come, in the dai that he hopith not, and the our that he woot not; and schal departe hym, and putte his part with vnfeithful men.

⁴⁷ But thilke seruaunt that knew the wille of his lord, and made not hym redi, and dide not aftir his wille, schal be betun with many betyngis.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not, and dide worthi thingis of strokis, schal be betun with fewe. For to eche man to whom myche is youun, myche schal be axid of hym; and thei schulen axe more of hym, to whom thei bitoken myche.

⁴⁹ Y cam to sende fier `in to the erthe, and what wole Y, but that it be kyndlid?

⁵⁰ And Y haue to be baptisid with a baptysm, and hou am Y constreyned, til that it be perfitli don?

⁵¹ Wene ye, that Y cam to yyue pees in to erthe? Nay, Y say to you, but departyng.

⁵² For fro this tyme ther schulen be fyue departid in oon hous; thre schulen be departid ayens tweyne, and tweyne schulen be departid ayens thre;

⁵³ the fadir ayens the sone, and the sone ayens the fadir; the modir ayens the douytir, and the douytir ayens the modir; the hosebondis modir ayens the sones wijf, and and the sones wijf ayens hir hosebondis modir.

⁵⁴ And he seide also to the puple, Whanne ye seen a cloude risynge fro the sunne goynge doun, anoon ye seien, Reyn cometh; and so it is don.

⁵⁵ And whanne ye seen the south blowynge, ye seien, That heete schal be; and it is don.

⁵⁶ Ypocritis, ye kunnen preue the face of heuene and of erthe, but hou preuen ye not this tyme.

⁵⁷ But what and of you silf ye demen not that that is iust?

³¹ but, seek ye the reign of God, and all these things shall be added to you.

³² 'Fear not, little flock, because your Father did delight to give you the reign;

³³ sell your goods, and give alms, make to yourselves bags that become not old, a treasure unfailing in the heavens, where thief doth not come near, nor moth destroy;

³⁴ for where your treasure is, there also your heart will be.

³⁸ and if he may come in the second watch, and in the third watch he may come, and may find it so, happy are those servants.

³⁹ 'And this know, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief doth come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through;

⁴⁰ and ye, then, become ye ready, because at the hour ye think not, the Son of Man doth come.'

⁴² And the Lord said, 'Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the lord shall set over his household, to give in season the wheat measure?

⁴³ Happy that servant, whom his lord, having come, shall find doing so;

⁴⁴ truly I say to you, that over all his goods he will set him.

⁴⁵ 'And if that servant may say in his heart, My lord doth delay to come, and may begin to beat the men-servants and the maid-servants, to eat also, and to drink, and to be drunken;

⁴⁶ the lord of that servant will come in a day in which he doth not look for him, and in an hour that he doth not know, and will cut him off, and his portion with the unfaithful he will appoint.
