Luke 11:49-53 in English

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send unto them prophets and apostles; and some of them they shall kill and persecute;

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary: yea, I say unto you, it shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe unto you lawyers! for ye took away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

⁵³ And when he was come out from thence, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things;

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

⁵³ And when he was come out from thence, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things;

⁴⁹ So God, who is very wise PRS, said, ‘I will send prophets and apostles to you Jews. You will kill some of them and cause some of them to suffer greatly.

⁵⁰ As a result, I will consider that many of you people who have observed my Son's ministry will be guilty MTY of murder, as if you had killed all the prophets that other people have killed, from the time I created the world,

⁵¹ starting from Adam's son Cain killing his brother Abel and continuing until they killed the prophet Zechariah in the holy place between the altar and the temple.’ Yes, what I am saying is true MTY. God will punish you people who have observed my ministry, oyou people whom he considers to be guilty MTY for killing all those prophets!

⁵² There will be terrible punishment for you men who teach the Jewish laws, because you have not let people know God's truth MET! It is as though you are taking away a key to a house. You are not going into the house yourselves, and you are not letting other people enter it, either.”

⁵³ After Jesus finished saying those things, he left there. Then the men who taught the Jewish laws and the Pharisees began to act in a very hostile way toward him. They tried to make him say what he thought about many things.

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁴⁹ For this reason the wisdom of God has said, I will send them prophets and teachers, and to some of them they will give death and cruel pains;

⁵⁰ So that punishment may come on this generation for the blood of all the prophets which was given from the earliest days;

⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who was put to death between the altar and the Temple. Yes, I say to you, It will come on this generation.

⁵² A curse is on you, teachers of the law! for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you did not go in yourselves, and you got in the way of those who were going in.

⁵³ And when he had come out of that place, the scribes and the Pharisees came round him angrily, questioning him about more things;

⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God has said, I will send to them prophets and apostles, and of these shall they kill and drive out by persecution,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which has been poured out from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe unto you, the doctors of the law, for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; yourselves have not entered in, and those who were entering in ye have hindered.

⁵³ And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him urgently, and to make him speak of many things;

⁴⁹ For this cause also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute.

⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who was slain between the alter and the temple: Yea I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you lawyers, for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you yourselves have not entered in, and those that were entering in, you have hindered.

⁵³ And as he was saying these things to them, the Pharisees and the lawyers began violently to urge him, and to oppress his mouth about many things,

⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

⁵² “Woe to you lawyers! Because you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter in, and those who were entering in you hindered.”

⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be dreadfully hostile, and to cross-examine Him about many things,

⁴⁹ Also, because of this ‘the wisdom of God’ said: ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation!

⁵² Woe to you lawyers! You have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering!”

⁵³ Well when He had said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge Him on vehemently and to cross-examine Him about many things,

⁴⁹ This is why God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles; some they will kill, and others they will persecute.’

⁵⁰ Consequently, this generation will be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets shed from the beginning of the world,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel right up to the blood of Zachariah who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held accountable for all of it.

⁵² Shame on you lawyers! You have removed the key of knowledge. You didn't go in yourselves, and you prevented others from going in too.”

⁵³ As Jesus was leaving, the religious teachers and the Pharisees began to attack him aggressively, asking questions to provoke him.

⁴⁹ Therefore said the wisedome of God, I wil sende them Prophets and Apostles, and of them they shall slaie, and persecute away,

⁵⁰ That the blood of all the Prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ From the blood of Abel vnto the blood of Zacharias, which was slaine betweene the altar and the Temple: verely I say vnto you, it shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Wo be to you, Lawyers: for ye haue taken away the key of knowledge: ye entred not in your selues, and them that came in, ye forbade.

⁵³ And as he sayde these things vnto them, the Scribes and Pharises began to vrge him sore, and to prouoke him to speake of many things,

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

⁵³ And as he came out thence, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very spiteful, and to press him to speak off hand about many things,

⁴⁹ That is why the wisdom of God said — ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles,

⁵⁰ some of whom they will persecute and kill, in order that the blood of all the prophets that has been spilt since the creation of the world may be exacted from this generation —

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel down to the blood of Zechariah, who was slain between the altar and the house of God.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be exacted from this generation.

⁵² Alas for you students of the Law! You have taken away the key of the door of knowledge. You have not gone in yourselves and you have hindered those who try to go in.”

⁵³ When Jesus left the house, the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees began to press him hard and question him closely on many subjects,

⁴⁹ That is why the wisdom of God said — ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles,

⁵⁰ some of whom they will persecute and kill, in order that the blood of all the prophets that has been spilt since the creation of the world may be exacted from this generation —

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel down to the blood of Zechariah, who was slain between the altar and the house of God.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be exacted from this generation.

⁵² Alas for you students of the Law! You have taken away the key of the door of knowledge. You have not gone in yourselves and you have hindered those who try to go in.”

⁵³ When Jesus left the house, the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees began to press him hard and question him closely on many subjects,

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel Vanity, Mourning to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the Torah-Teachers and the Pharisees Separated began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him;

⁴⁹ Listen, God is wise, so he said, ‘I will pick men to tell everyone my messages, and I will pick men to be my close followers, and I will send them to the people. But the people will kill some of them, and they will hurt some of them.’

⁵⁰ You see, that is the way it has been for a long time. People have been killing God’s men ever since the world first started. But God will punish the people that are alive today for all those murders.

⁵¹ Abel was the first one to die, and Zechariah was the last one. They murdered him at God’s ceremony house, near the place where they kill animals and burn them, to give them to God. Yes, God will punish the people that are alive today for all those murders.

⁵² Listen, God will make trouble for you law teacher mob, because you don’t do the right thing. You know how to help people to understand more about God, but you never do it. You yourselves don’t want to know God, and you block everybody else, so they can’t know him either.”

⁵³ Then Jesus left that place. After that, the law teacher mob and the Pharisee mob got real angry with him, and they argued against him. They tried to make him say something bad, so they could blame him. So they asked him a lot of hard questions. But he didn’t say anything bad.

⁴⁹ Therfore sayde the wisdome of God: I will send them Prophetes and Apostles and of them they shall slee and persecute:

⁵⁰ that the bloude of all Prophetes which was sheed from the beginninge of the worlde maye be requyred of this generacion

⁵¹ from the bloud of Abell vnto the bloud of zachary which perisshed bitwene the aulter and the temple. Verely I saye vnto you: it shalbe requyred of this nacion.

⁵² Wo be to you lawears: for ye have taken awaye the keye of knowledge ye entred not in youre selves and them that came in ye forbade.

⁵³ When he thus spake vnto them the lawears and the Pharises began to wexe busye about him and to stop his mouth with many questions

⁴⁹ For this reason also, God's wisdom said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and they will persecute and kill some of them.'

⁵⁰ This generation, then, will be held responsible for all the blood of the prophets shed since the world began,

⁵¹ from Abel's blood to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I say to you, this generation will be held responsible.

⁵² Woe to you teachers of Jewish laws, because you have taken away the key of knowledge; you do not enter in yourselves, and you hinder those who are entering.”

⁵³ After Jesus left there, the scribes and the Pharisees opposed him and argued with him about many things,

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you Torah scholars! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁴⁹ Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and emissaries; and some of them they will kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you Torah scholars! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

⁵³ As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him,

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God said, I shall send to them prophets and apostles, and of them they shall slay and persecute or pursue,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, that was shed from the making or the beginning of the world, be sought of this generation;

⁵¹ from the blood of just Abel to the blood of Zechariah, that was slain betwixt or which perished between the altar and the House. So I say to you, it shall be sought of this generation.

⁵² Woe to you, wise men of the law, for ye have taken away the key of knowing; and ye yourselves entered not in, and ye have forbidden them that entered.

⁵³ And when he said these things to them, the Pharisees and the wise men of the law began grievously to against-stand him, and stop his mouth of many things,

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God said, I shall send to them prophets and apostles, and of them they shall slay and pursue, (And so the wisdom of God said, I shall send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall persecute and kill,)

⁵⁰ (so) that the blood of all the prophets, that was shed from the making or from the beginning of the world, be sought of this generation; (so that the blood of all the prophets, that was shed from the creation of the world, be sought from this generation;)

⁵¹ from the blood of just Abel to the blood of Zacharias, that was slain betwixt the altar and the House (of the Lord), +or from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the house. So I say to you, it shall be sought of this generation. (from the blood of good and righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the Temple. So I tell you, it shall be sought from this generation.)

⁵² Woe to you, wise men of the law, for ye have taken away the key of cunning (or the key of knowing); and ye yourselves entered not in, and ye have forbidden them that entered. (Woe to you, men wise in the Law, for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; and ye yourselves did not enter in, and ye have forbidden those who tried to enter in.)

⁵³ And when he said these things to them, the Pharisees and the wise men of the law (or and the men wise in the Law) began grievously to against-stand him, and (to) stop his mouth of many things,

⁴⁹ Therfor the wisdom of God seide, Y schal sende to hem profetis and apostlis, and of hem thei schulen sle and pursue,

⁵⁰ that the blood of alle prophetis, that was sched fro the making of the world, be souyt of this generacioun;

⁵¹ fro the blood of the iust Abel to the blood of Zacharie, that was slayn bitwixe the auter and the hous. So Y seie to you, it schal be souyt of this generacioun.

⁵² Wo to you, wise men of the lawe, for ye han takun awei the keye of kunnyng; and ye yow silf entriden not, and ye han forbeden hem that entriden.

⁵³ And whanne he seide these thingis to hem, the Farisees and wise men of lawe bigunnen greuousli to ayenstonde, and stoppe his mouth of many thingis,

⁴⁹ because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute,

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation;

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation.

⁵² 'Woe to you, the lawyers, because ye took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves ye did not enter; and those coming in, ye did hinder.'

⁵³ And in his speaking these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fearfully to urge and to press him to speak about many things,
