³⁷ Now as he spake, a Pharisee asketh him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first bathed himself before dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, Now ye the Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter; but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Ye foolish ones, did not he that made the outside make the inside also?

⁴¹ But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, all things are clean unto you.

³⁷ And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

⁴¹ Howbeit give for alms those things which are within; and behold, all things are clean unto you.

³⁷ While Jesus finished saying those things, a Pharisee invited him to eat a meal with him. So Jesus went to his house and ate with him.

³⁸ The Pharisee was surprised when he saw that Jesus did not follow the Pharisees' ritual by washing his hands before eating. The Pharisees washed their hands in a certain way to be cleansed from anything that might have contaminated them. They were afraid that God might reject them if they had touched something unacceptable to God.

³⁹ The Lord Jesus said to Him, “You Pharisees are concerned about things that are outside your bodies, not with what is in your ◄ inner beings/hearts► MET. You wash the outside of cups and dishes before you eat because you think that doing that will make you acceptable to God, but within yourselves you are very greedy and wicked.

⁴⁰ You foolish people! God is concerned about things that are outside our bodies, but ◄he is certainly also concerned about our inner beings!/isn't he also concerned about our hearts?► RHQ

⁴¹ Give money to those who are poor. Give according to what you know within your ◄inner beings /hearts ► that you should give. Then you will be surprised to realize that you will be acceptable to God without having to perform all those rituals about washing.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised because he came to the meal without first washing himself.

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, You Pharisees make the outside of the cup and the plate clean; but inside you are thieves and full of evil.

⁴⁰ O you foolish ones! did not he who made the outside in the same way make the inside?

⁴¹ But if you give to the poor such things as you are able, then all things are clean to you.

³⁷ But as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him that he would dine with him; and entering in he placed himself at table.

³⁸ But the Pharisee seeing it wondered that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your inward parts are full of plunder and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Fools, has not he who has made the outside made the inside also?

⁴¹ But rather give alms of what ye have, and behold, all things are clean to you.

³⁷ And as he was speaking, a certain Pharisee prayed him, that he would dine with him. And he going in, sat down to eat.

³⁸ And the Pharisee began to say, thinking within himself, why he was not washed before dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord said to him: Now you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but your inside is full of rapine and iniquity.

⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make also that which is within?

⁴¹ But yet that which remaineth, give alms; and behold, all things are clean unto you.

³⁷ And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked that He would eat with him. And having entered, He reclined to eat.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before the meal.

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but the inside of you is full of greed and evil.

⁴⁰ Fools! Did not He who made the outside also make the inside?

⁴¹ Nevertheless give what is inside as alms; and see, all things are clean to you.

³⁷ Now as He spoke, a certain Pharisee invited Him to eat with him. So He went in and reclined.

³⁸ But the Pharisee, noticing that He did not first wash before the meal, was critical.

³⁹ So the Lord said to him: “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but your inside is full of greed and malignancy.

⁴⁰ Fools! Did not He who made the outside also make the inside?

⁴¹ Nevertheless, give what is possible as alms; then indeed all things are clean to you.

³⁷ After Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to come and eat with him. So Jesus went and sat down to a meal.

³⁸ The Pharisee was surprised that Jesus didn't wash his hands before eating as ceremonially required.

³⁹ So the Lord told him, “You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you're full of greed and wickedness.

⁴⁰ You're so foolish! Don't you think the one who made the outside made the inside as well?

⁴¹ If, acting from within, you do acts of kindness to others, then everything will be clean to you.

³⁷ And as hee spake, a certaine Pharise besought him to dine with him: and hee went in, and sate downe at table.

³⁸ And when the Pharise saw it, he marueiled that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord saide to him, In deede yee Pharises make cleane the outside of the cuppe, and of the platter: but the inwarde part is full of rauening and wickednesse.

⁴⁰ Ye fooles, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?

⁴¹ Therefore, giue almes of those thinges which you haue, and beholde, all thinges shall be cleane to you.

³⁷ And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

³⁸ And the Pharisee, seeing it, wondered that he did not bathe before dinner.

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, Now ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inside is full of rapacity and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Fools, did not he who made the outside, make the inside also?

⁴¹ But give what they contain in alms, and lo! all is clean to you.

³⁷ As Jesus finished speaking, a Pharisee asked him to breakfast with him, and Jesus went in and took his place at the table.

³⁸ The Pharisee noticed, to his astonishment, that Jesus omitted the ceremonial washing before breakfast.

³⁹ But the Master said to him, “You Pharisees do, it is true, clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside you yourselves are filled with greed and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Fools! Did not the maker of the outside make the inside too?

⁴¹ Only give away what is in them in charity, and at once you have the whole clean.

³⁷ As Jesus finished speaking, a Pharisee asked him to breakfast with him, and Jesus went in and took his place at the table.

³⁸ The Pharisee noticed, to his astonishment, that Jesus omitted the ceremonial washing before breakfast.

³⁹ But the Master said to him, “You Pharisees do, it is true, clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside you yourselves are filled with greed and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Fools! Did not the maker of the outside make the inside too?

⁴¹ Only give away what is in them in charity, and at once you have the whole clean.

³⁷ Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee Separated asked him to dine with him. He went in, and sat at the table.

³⁸ When the Pharisee Separated saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.

³⁹ The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees Separated cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.

⁴⁰ You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also?

⁴¹ But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

³⁷ Jesus was talking to the people, and a man that belonged to the mob called Pharisees asked him to come to his place for dinner. The Pharisee mob were very strong for the Jewish law.

³⁸ The Pharisees made a rule, that whenever anyone wanted to eat a meal, they first had to wash their hands. But Jesus didn’t follow that rule. He didn’t wash his hands. The Pharisee man was shocked.

³⁹ So Jesus said to him, “You Pharisee mob are like somebody that only cleans the outside of cups and plates. You only do good things if people can see you, like you are good on the outside. But you are really dirty on the inside. You are greedy, and you are always thinking in your heads about doing very bad things.

⁴⁰ Look, you are really stupid. You forget that God made the inside of you as well as the outside. He can see everything that is inside your heads.

⁴¹ The right way is like this. You have to think in your heads about poor people and you have to be sorry for them, and you have to give them the things they need. Then God will say that you are clean, on the inside as well as on the outside.

³⁷ And as he spake a certayne Pharise besought him to dyne with him: and he went in and sate doune to meate.

³⁸ When the Pharise sawe that he marveylled that he had not fyrst wesshed before dyner.

³⁹ And the Lorde sayde to him: Now do the Pharises make clene the out side of the cup and of the platter: but youre inwarde parties are full of raveninge and wickednes.

⁴⁰ Ye foles dyd not he that made that which is without: make that which is within also?

⁴¹ Neverthelesse geve almose of that ye have and beholde all is clene to you.

³⁷ When he had finished speaking, a Pharisee asked him to eat with him at his house, so Jesus went in and reclined.

³⁸ The Pharisee was surprised that Jesus first did not wash before dinner.

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of cups and bowls, but the inside of you is filled with greed and evil.

⁴⁰ You senseless men! Did not the one who made the outside also make the inside?

⁴¹ Give to the poor what is inside, and then all things will be clean for you.

³⁷ Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in and sat at the table.

³⁸ When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.

⁴⁰ Fools, whether he that made that that is withoutforth, made not also that that is within?

⁴¹ Nevertheless that that is over-plus, or superfluous, give ye alms, and lo! all things be clean to you.

³⁷ And when he spake, a Pharisee prayed him, that he should eat with him. And he entered, and sat to (the) meat or (and) sat at the meat. (And after he spoke, a Pharisee beseeched him, that he would eat with him. And he entered, and sat down for the meal.)

³⁸ And the Pharisee began to say, guessing within himself, why he was not washed before the meat (or why he did not wash before the meal).

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, Now ye Pharisees cleanse that that is withoutforth of the cup and the platter; but that thing that is within of you or but that thing of you that is within, is full of raven and wickedness.

⁴⁰ Fools, whether he that made that that is withoutforth, made not also that that is within?

⁴¹ Nevertheless that that is over-plus, or superfluous, give ye alms, and lo! all things be clean to you.

³⁷ And whanne he spak, a Farisee preiede him, that he schulde ete with hym. And he entride, and sat to the meete.

³⁸ And the Farisee bigan to seie, gessynge with ynne hym silf, whi he was not waschen bifor mete.

³⁹ And the Lord seide to hym, Now ye Farisees clensen that that is with outenforth of the cuppe and the plater; but that thing that is with ynne of you, is ful of raueyn and wickidnesse.

⁴⁰ Foolis, whether he that made that that is withoutenforth, made not also that that is with ynne?

⁴¹ Netheles that that is ouer plus, yyue ye almes, and lo! alle thingis ben cleene to you.

³⁷ And in his speaking, a certain Pharisee was asking him that he might dine with him, and having gone in, he reclined (at meat),

³⁸ and the Pharisee having seen, did wonder that he did not first baptize himself before the dinner.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, 'Now do ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the plate make clean, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness;

⁴⁰ unthinking! did not He who made the outside also the inside make?

⁴¹ But what ye have give ye as alms, and, lo, all things are clean to you.
