Luke 11:2-9 in English

² And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Father, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.

³ Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁴ And forgive us our sins; for we ourselves also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And bring us not into temptation.

⁵ And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

⁶ for a friend of mine is come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him;

⁷ and he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee?

⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth.

⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth.

⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

² He said to them, “When you pray, say things like this: ‘Father, we want you (sg) MTY to be honored/revered. We want people to let you(sg) MTY, MET rule over their lives.

³ Give us (exc) each day the food SYN that we need.

⁴ Forgive us for the wrong things that we have done, because we forgive people for the wrong things that they do to us. Do not let us do wrong things when we are tempted { someone or something tempts us}.’”

⁵ Then he said to them, “Suppose that one of you goes to the house of a friend at midnight. Suppose that you (sg) stand outside and call out to him, ‘My friend, please lend me three buns!

⁶ Another friend of mine who is traveling has just arrived at my house, but I have no food ready to give to him!’

⁷ Suppose that he answers you from inside his house, ‘Do not bother me! The door has been locked { We(exc) have locked the door} and all my family are in bed. So I cannot get up and give you (sg) anything!’

⁸ I will tell you that even if he does not want to get up and give you any food, to avoid being ashamed for not helping you because you are his friend (OR, if without being ashamed you continue asking him to do that), he certainly will get up and give you whatever you need.

⁹ So I tell you this: Keep asking God for what you need. If you do that, he will give it to you (pl). Confidently keep expecting God to give you the things that you need, and he will give them to you MET. It will be like looking for what you need and finding it. Keep on praying urgently to God. Then God will answer you. It will be like knocking on a door so that God will open the way for you to get what you pray for.

² He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

³ Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁵ He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

⁶ for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’

⁷ and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

⁸ I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

⁹ “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

² He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

³ Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁷ and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

⁸ I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

⁹ “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

² And he said to them, When you say your prayers, say, Father, may your name be kept holy and your kingdom come.

³ Give us every day bread for our needs.

⁴ May we have forgiveness for our sins, as we make free all those who are in debt to us. And let us not be put to the test.

⁵ And he said to them, Which of you, having a friend, would go to him in the middle of the night and say to him, Friend, let me have three cakes of bread;

⁶ Because a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to put before him;

⁷ And he, from inside the house, would say in answer, Do not be a trouble to me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; it is not possible for me to get up and give to you?

⁸ I say to you, Though he will not get up and give to him, because he is his friend, still, if he keeps on making his request, he will get up and give him as much as he has need of.

⁹ And I say to you, Make requests, and they will be answered; what you are searching for, you will get; when you give the sign, the door will be open to you.

² And he said to them, When ye pray, say, Father, thy name be hallowed; thy kingdom come;

³ give us our needed bread for each day;

⁴ and remit us our sins, for we also remit to every one indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.

⁵ And he said to them, Who among you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, let me have three loaves,

⁶ since a friend of mine on a journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him;

⁷ and he within answering should say, Do not disturb me; the door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise up to give it thee?

⁸ — I say to you, Although he will not get up and give them to him because he is his friend, because of his shamelessness, at any rate, he will rise and give him as many as he wants.

⁹ And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

⁷ And he from within should answer, and say: Trouble me not, the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

⁸ Yet if he shall continue knocking, I say to you, although he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend; yet, because of his importunity, he will rise, and give him as many as he needeth.

⁹ And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you.

² So He said to them, “Whenever you pray, say: Our Father in the heavens, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

³ Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁴ And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”

⁵ And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;

⁶ for a friend has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;

⁷ and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door has already been shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give to you’?

⁸ I say to you, even if he will not get up and give to him, because he is his friend, yet on account of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

⁹ “So I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

² So He said to them: “Whenever you pray, say: Our Father who is in the heavens, your name must be reverenced. Your Kingdom must come. Your will must be done on earth as it is in heaven.

³ Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁴ Also, forgive us our sins, because we also forgive everyone indebted to us. And, do not lead us into testing, but deliver us from the malignant one.”

⁵ Then He said to them: “Who among you will have a friend and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,

⁶ because a friend has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;

⁷ and he will answer from within and say, ‘Don't bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give to you?’

⁸ I say to you, even if he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

⁹ “So I say to you: ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

² Jesus told them, “When you pray, say, ‘Father, let your name be honored as holy. May your kingdom come.

³ Give us every day the food we need.

⁴ Forgive us our sins, just as we forgive everyone who sins against us. Keep us from temptation.’”

⁵ Jesus went on to tell them, “Say you have a friend and you go to him in the middle of the night and ask, ‘My friend, lend me three loaves of bread

⁶ because a friend of mine has come to visit me, and I don't have any food to give him.’

⁷ Your friend in the house might reply, ‘Don't bother me—I've already locked the door, and I and my children have gone to bed. I can't get up to give you anything now.’

⁸ I tell you, even though he refuses to get up and give you anything, despite you being his friend, if you are persistent, your friend will get up and give you everything you need.

⁹ I tell you: ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened to you.

² And he said vnto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father, which art in heauen, halowed be thy Name: Thy kingdome come: Let thy will be done, euen in earth, as it is in heauen:

³ Our dayly bread giue vs for the day:

⁴ And forgiue vs our sinnes: for euen we forgiue euery man that is indetted to vs: And leade vs not into temptation: but deliuer vs from euill.

⁵ Moreouer he said vnto them, Which of you shall haue a friende, and shall goe to him at midnight, and say vnto him, Friende, lende mee three loaues?

⁶ For a friende of mine is come out of the way to me, and I haue nothing to set before him:

⁷ And hee within shoulde answere, and say, Trouble mee not: the doore is nowe shut, and my children are with mee in bed: I can not rise and giue them to thee.

⁸ I say vnto you, Though he would not arise and giue him, because he is his friende, yet doubtlesse because of his importunitie, hee woulde rise, and giue him as many as he needed.

⁹ And I say vnto you, Aske, and it shall be giuen you: seeke, and yee shall finde: knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you.

⁵ He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight, and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

⁶ for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’

⁷ and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

⁸ I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

⁹ “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

⁵ Jesus told his followers a picture story, to teach them how to pray. He said, “Think about this. A man is going on a long trip, and at night he comes to the house where his cousin lives, so he visits him to stay the night with him. But his cousin hasn’t got any food to give him. So his cousin goes out in the middle of the night to his friend’s house, and he knocks on the door and he calls out, ‘Hey, friend, can you give me some food? You see, my cousin has just come, and I’ve got no food to give him. Can you give me some bread?’

⁷ But his friend has already locked his door and gone to bed, with his wife and his kids, and he doesn’t want to get up, so he says, ‘Don’t humbug me now. I’m in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’

⁸ But if that man keeps on knocking and asking for bread, after a while his friend will get up and give him everything he asks for. He will not do it because they are friends. He will do it because that man keeps on asking him.

⁹ So I’m telling you this. Keep on asking God for what you need, and he will give it to you. Keep on looking for what you need, and God will help you find it. Or if something is stopping you, like there is a door that is shut and you can’t get in, keep knocking at that door and God will open it for you.

² And he sayd vnto the: When ye praye saye: O oure father which arte in heaven, halowed be thy name. Thy kyngdome come. Thy will be fulfilled, even in erth as it is in heaven.

³ Oure dayly breed geve vs evermore.

⁴ And forgeve vs oure synnes: For even we forgeve every man that treaspaseth vs. And ledde vs not into temptacion. But deliver vs from evill.

⁵ And he sayde vnto them: if any of you shuld have a frede and shuld goo to him at mid nyght and saye vnto him: frende lende me thre loves

⁶ for a frende of myne is come out of the waye to me and I have nothinge to set before him:

⁷ and he within shuld answere and saye trouble me not the dore is now sheet and my servautes are with me in the chamber I cannot ryse and geve them to the.

⁸ I saye vnto you though he wold not aryse and geve him because he is his frede: yet because of his importunite he wold rise and geve him as many as he neded.

⁹ And I saye vnto you: axe and it shalbe geven you. Seke and ye shall fynde. knocke and it shalbe opened vnto you.

² Jesus said to them, “When you pray say, 'Father, may your name be sanctified. May your kingdom come.

³ Give us our daily bread each day.

⁴ Forgive us our sins, as we forgive everyone who is in debt to us. Do not lead us into temptation.'”

⁵ Jesus said to them, “Which of you will have a friend, and will go to him at midnight, and say to him, 'Friend, lend to me three loaves of bread,

⁶ since a friend of mine just came in from the road, and I do not have anything to set before him'?

⁷ Then the one inside who answered him may say, 'Do not bother me. The door is already shut, and my children, along with me, are in bed. I am not able to get up and give bread to you.'

⁸ I say to you, even if he does not get up and give bread to you because you are his friend, yet because of your shameless persistence, he will get up and give you as many loaves of bread as you need.

⁹ I also say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

² He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

⁵ He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

⁶ for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’

⁷ and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

⁸ I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

⁹ “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

² And he said to them, When ye pray, say ye, Father or Father ours, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come to; thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

³ Give to us today our each day’s bread.

⁴ And forgive to us our sins, as we forgive to each man that oweth to us. And lead us not into temptation.

⁵ And he said to them, Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and shall say to him, Friend, lend to me three loaves;

⁶ for my friend cometh to me from the way, and I have not what I shall set or shall put before him.

⁷ And he withinforth answer and say, Do not thou be heavy to me; the door is now shut, and my children be with me in bed; I may not rise, and give to thee.

⁸ And if he shall dwell still knocking or if he shall continue knocking, I say to you, though he shall not rise, and give to him, for that that he is his friend, nevertheless for his continual asking, he shall rise, and give to him, as many as he hath need to.

⁹ And I say to you, ask ye, and it shall be given to you; seek ye, and ye shall find; knock ye, and it shall be opened to you.

³ Yyue `to vs to dai oure ech daies breed.

⁴ And foryyue to vs oure synnes, as we foryyuen to ech man that owith to vs. And lede vs not in to temptacioun.

⁵ And he seide to hem, Who of you schal haue a freend, and schal go to hym at mydnyyt, and schal seie to hym, Freend, leene to me thre looues;

⁶ for my freend cometh to me fro the weie, and Y haue not what Y schal sette bifor hym.

⁷ And he with ynforth answere and seie, Nyle thou be heuy to me; the dore is now schit, and my children ben with me in bed; Y may not rise, and yyue to thee.

⁸ And if he schal dwelle stil knockynge, Y seie to you, thouy he schal not rise, and yyue to him, for that that he is his freend, netheles for his contynuel axyng he schal ryse, and yyue to hym, as many as he hath nede to.

⁹ And Y seie to you, axe ye, and it schal be youun to you; seke ye, and ye schulen fynde; knocke ye, and it schal be openyd to you.

² And he said to them, 'When ye may pray, say ye: Our Father who art in the heavens; hallowed be Thy name: Thy reign come; Thy will come to pass, as in heaven also on earth;

³ our appointed bread be giving us daily;

⁴ and forgive us our sins, for also we ourselves forgive every one indebted to us; and mayest Thou not bring us into temptation; but do Thou deliver us from the evil.'

⁵ And he said unto them, 'Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go on unto him at midnight, and may say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves,

⁶ seeing a friend of mine came out of the way unto me, and I have not what I shall set before him,

⁷ and he from within answering may say, Do not give me trouble, already the door hath been shut, and my children with me are in the bed, I am not able, having risen, to give to thee.

⁸ 'I say to you, even if he will not give to him, having risen, because of his being his friend, yet because of his importunity, having risen, he will give him as many as he doth need;

⁹ and I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
