Leviticus 26:7-43 in English

⁷ And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

⁸ And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand; and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

⁹ And I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and will establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ And ye shall eat old store long kept, and ye shall bring forth the old because of the new.

¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

¹² And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

¹³ I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bars of your yoke, and made you go upright.

¹⁴ But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

¹⁵ and if ye shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhor mine ordinances, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant;

¹⁶ I also will do this unto you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away; and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be smitten before your enemies: they that hate you shall rule over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

¹⁸ And if ye will not yet for these things hearken unto me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power: and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass;

²⁰ and your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.

²¹ And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

²² And I will send the beast of the field among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your ways shall become desolate.

²³ And if by these things ye will not be reformed unto me, but will walk contrary unto me;

²⁴ then will I also walk contrary unto you; and I will smite you, even I, seven times for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute the vengeance of the covenant; and ye shall be gathered together within your cities: and I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

²⁶ When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

²⁸ then I will walk contrary unto you in wrath; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your sun-images, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul shall abhor you.

³¹ And I will make your cities a waste, and will bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors.

³² And I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies that dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

³³ And you will I scatter among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you: and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy its sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye are in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy its sabbaths.

³⁵ As long as it lieth desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it had not in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

³⁶ And as for them that are left of you, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as one fleeth from the sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

³⁷ And they shall stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

³⁹ And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary unto me,

⁴¹ I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity;

⁴² then will I remember my covenant with Jacob; and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

⁴³ The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths, while it lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected mine ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

⁷ and ye shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall before you with slaughter.

⁸ And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase tens of thousands; and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

⁹ And I will look upon you, and increase you, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ And ye shall eat that which is old and very old, and bring forth the old to make way for the new.

¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle among you, and my soul shall not abhor you;

¹² and I will walk among you, and be your God, and ye shall be my people.

¹³ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, where ye were slaves; and I broke the band of your yoke, and brought you forth openly.

¹⁴ But if ye will not hearken to me, nor obey these my ordinances,

¹⁵ but disobey them, and your soul should loathe my judgments, so that ye should not keep all my commands, so as to break my covenant,

¹⁶ then will I do thus to you: I will even bring upon you perplexity and the itch, and the fever that causes your eyes to waste away, and disease that consumes your life; and ye shall sow your seeds in vain, and your enemies shall eat them.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall fall before your enemies, and they that hate you shall pursue you; and ye shall flee, no one pursuing you.

¹⁸ And if ye still refuse to hearken to me, then will I chasten you yet more even seven times for your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break down the haughtiness of your pride; and I will make your heaven iron, and your earth as it were brass.

²⁰ And your strength shall be in vain; and your land shall not yield its seed, and the tree of your field shall not yield its fruit.

²¹ And if after this ye should walk perversely, and not be willing to obey me, I will further bring upon you seven plagues according to your sins.

²² And I will send upon you the wild beasts of the land, and they shall devour you, and shall consume your cattle: and I will make you few in number, and your ways shall be desolate.

²³ And if hereupon ye are not corrected, but walk perversely towards me,

²⁴ I also will walk with you with a perverse spirit, and I also will smite you seven times for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring upon you a sword avenging the cause of my covenant, and ye shall flee for refuge to your cities; and I will send out death against you, and ye shall be delivered into the hands of your enemies.

²⁶ When I afflict you with famine of bread, then ten women shall bake your loaves in one oven, and they shall render your loaves by weight; and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if hereupon ye will not obey me, but walk perversely towards me,

²⁸ then will I walk with you with a froward mind, and I will chasten you sevenfold according to your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁰ And I will render your pillars desolate, and will utterly destroy your wooden images made with hands; and I will lay your carcases on the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall loathe you.

³¹ And I will lay your cities waste, and I will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell the savour of your sacrifices.

³² And I will lay your land desolate, and your enemies who dwell in it shall wonder at it.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and the sword shall come upon you and consume you; and your land shall be desolate, and your cities shall be desolate.

³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths all the days of its desolation.

³⁵ And ye shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall keep its sabbaths, and the land shall enjoy its sabbaths all the days of its desolation: it shall keep sabbaths which it kept not among your sabbaths, when ye dwelt in it.

³⁶ And to those who are left of you I will bring bondage into their heart in the land of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee as fleeing from war, and shall fall when none pursues them.

³⁷ And brother shall disregard brother as in war, when none pursues; and ye shall not be able to withstand your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the Gentiles, and the land of your enemies shall devour you.

³⁹ And those who are left of you shall perish, because of their sins, and because of the sins of their fathers: in the land of their enemies shall they consume away.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their sins, and the sins of their fathers, that they have transgressed and neglected me, and that they have walked perversely before me,

⁴¹ and I walked with them with a perverse mind; and I will destroy them in the land of their enemies: then shall their uncircumcised heart be ashamed, and then shall they acquiesce in the punishment of their sins.

⁴² And I will remember the covenant of Jacob, and the covenant of Isaac, and the covenant of Abraam will I remember.

⁴³ And I will remember the land, and the land shall be left of them; then the land shall enjoy her sabbaths, when it is deserted through them: and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquities, because they neglected my judgments, and in their soul loathed my ordinances.

When you were there, you were treated as though you were animals that worked for the people of Egypt, but MET I broke the bars of the ◄yokes/frames that were put around your necks► and enabled you to walk with your heads up.”

¹⁴ “But if you will not heed me and obey all these commands,

¹⁵ and if you reject DOU my decrees and laws, and do not do DOU what I commanded you to do in the agreement that I made with you,

¹⁶ these are the things that I will do to you: I will suddenly cause there to be disasters that will ruin you. You will have diseases that cannot be cured, and fevers that will cause you to become blind and will slowly kill you. It will be useless for you to plant seeds, because your enemies will eat the crops that grow.

¹⁷ I will reject/abandon you IDM, with the result that you will be defeated by your enemies. Then those who hate you will rule you, and you will be so terrified that you will run away even when no one is pursuing you.

¹⁸ If you still will not heed me after all those things happen to you, I will continue to punish you again and again for the sins that you have committed.

¹⁹ I will cause you to no longer be stubborn and proud; I will cause no rain to fall; it will be as though MET the sky is made of iron; and the ground will be as hard as brass MET.

²⁰ You will uselessly work very hard to plant seeds, because crops will not grow in the hard soil in your fields, and fruit will not grow on your trees.

²¹ If you continue to oppose me and refuse to heed me, I will cause you to experience disasters again and again, like you deserve to experience because of your sins.

²² I will send wild animals to attack you, and they will kill your little children and destroy your cattle. There will be very few of you who will remain alive, with the result that there will be very few HYP people walking on the roads in your country.

²³ When you experience those things that I do to punish you, if you still do not pay attention to me, and if you continue to oppose me,

²⁴ I myself will oppose you, and I will punish you for your sins again and again.

²⁵ I will send foreign armies MTY to punish you for not doing the things that I commanded you to do in the agreement that I made with you. If you try to escape from your enemies by shutting yourselves in your cities that have walls around them, I will cause you to experience plagues, and I will allow your enemies to capture IDM you.

²⁶ When I cut off your food supply, there will be very little flour with which to make bread. As a result, ten woman will be able to bake all their bread in only one oven. When the bread is baked, each woman will divide it among the members of her family, but there will be very little for each one, and when they have eaten all of it, they will still be hungry.

²⁷ After all those things happen, if you still do not heed me, if you still oppose me,

²⁸ I will be very angry with you, and I will oppose you, and I myself will punish you for your sins again and again.

²⁹ You will be extremely hungry, with the result that you will kill your sons and daughters and eat their flesh.

³⁰ I will cause the shrines where you worship idols on hilltops to be destroyed. I will smash the altars where you burn incense to worship your gods, and I will cause your corpses to be piled on the lifeless statues of your gods. And I will detest you.

³¹ I will cause your cities to become heaps of ruins, and I will cause the buildings that are dedicated to the worship of your gods to be smashed. And I will not be pleased at all with the aroma of your offerings that are burned on the altar.

³² I will completely ruin your country, with the result that even your enemies who capture it will be shocked/appalled when they see it.

³³ I will enable your enemies to kill you with their swords, and I will cause the rest of you to be scattered among other nations. Your country will be ruined and your cities will become ruins.

³⁴ After that happens, as long as you are living in your enemies' countries, your land will be allowed to rest, like you should have allowed it to rest every seven years.

³⁵ All the time that your land is desolate, it will be able to rest, like you did not enable it to rest during all the years that you lived there.

³⁶ As for you people who will remain alive in the countries to which your enemies will have taken you, I will cause you to become so afraid that when you hear the sound of leaves being blown by the wind, you will run away. You will run like SIM you are running from a man carrying a sword, and you will fall down, even though no one is pursuing you.

³⁷ You will stumble over each other. So you will not be able to stand and fight your enemies.

³⁸ Many of you will die in the countries that belong to your enemies DOU.

³⁹ And those of you who remain alive will slowly die and rot in the countries of your enemies because of your sins and because of the sins of your ancestors.

⁴⁰ But your descendants must confess their sins and the sins that their ancestors committed. Their ancestors acted unfaithfully toward me and were hostile to me, with the result that I forced them to go to the countries that belonged to their enemies. But when your descendants humble themselves SYN and stop being very stubborn IDM and accept being punished for their sins,

⁴² I will remember the agreement that I made with your ancestors Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and what I promised them about this land.

⁴³ But before that happens, you will be forced to leave your land, with the result that the land will be able to rest while it is desolate and while the people are being punished for rejecting my laws and hating my decrees DOU.

¹³ I am the Lord your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt so that you might not be servants to them; by me the cords of your yoke were broken and I made you go upright.

¹⁴ But if you do not give ear to me, and do not keep all these my laws;

¹⁵ And if you go against my rules and if you have hate in your souls for my decisions and you do not do all my orders, but go against my agreement;

¹⁶ This will I do to you: I will put fear in your hearts, even wasting disease and burning pain, drying up the eyes and making the soul feeble, and you will get no profit from your seed, for your haters will take it for food.

¹⁷ And my face will be turned from you, and you will be broken before those who are against you, and your haters will become your rulers, and you will go in flight when no man comes after you.

¹⁸ And if, even after these things, you will not give ear to me, then I will send you punishment seven times more for your sins.

¹⁹ And the pride of your strength will be broken, and I will make your heaven as iron and your earth as brass;

²⁰ And your strength will be used up without profit; for your land will not give her increase and the trees of the field will not give their fruit.

²¹ And if you still go against me and will not give ear to me, I will put seven times more punishments on you because of your sins.

²² I will let loose the beasts of the field among you, and they will take away your children and send destruction on your cattle, so that your numbers will become small and your roads become waste.

²³ And if by these things you will not be turned to me, but still go against me;

²⁴ Then I will go against you, and I will give you punishment, I myself, seven times for all your sins.

²⁵ And I will send a sword on you to give effect to the punishment of my agreement; and when you come together into your towns I will send disease among you and you will be given up into the hands of your haters.

²⁶ When I take away your bread of life, ten women will be cooking bread in one oven, and your bread will be measured out by weight; you will have food but never enough.

²⁷ And if, after all this, you do not give ear to me, but go against me still,

²⁸ Then my wrath will be burning against you, and I will give you punishment, I myself, seven times for your sins.

²⁹ Then you will take the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters for food;

³⁰ And I will send destruction on your high places, overturning your perfume altars, and will put your dead bodies on your broken images, and my soul will be turned from you in disgust.

³¹ And I will make your towns waste and send destruction on your holy places; I will take no pleasure in the smell of your sweet perfumes;

³² And I will make your land a waste, a wonder to your haters living in it.

³³ And I will send you out in all directions among the nations, and my sword will be uncovered against you, and your land will be without any living thing, and your towns will be made waste.

³⁴ Then will the land take pleasure in its Sabbaths while it is waste and you are living in the land of your haters; then will the land have rest.

³⁵ All the days while it is waste will the land have rest, such rest as it never had in your Sabbaths, when you were living in it.

³⁶ And as for the rest of you, I will make their hearts feeble in the land of their haters, and the sound of a leaf moved by the wind will send them in flight, and they will go in flight as from the sword, falling down when no one comes after them;

³⁷ Falling on one another, as before the sword, when no one comes after them; you will give way before your haters.

³⁸ And death will overtake you among strange nations, and the land of your haters will be your destruction.

³⁹ And those of you who are still living will be wasting away in their sins in the land of your haters; in the sins of their fathers they will be wasting away.

⁴⁰ And they will have grief for their sins and for the sins of their fathers, when their hearts were untrue to me, and they went against me;

⁴¹ So that I went against them and sent them away into the land of their haters: if then the pride of their hearts is broken and they take the punishment of their sins,

⁴² Then I will keep in mind the agreement which I made with Jacob and with Isaac and with Abraham, and I will keep in mind the land.

⁴³ And the land, while she is without them, will keep her Sabbaths; and they will undergo the punishment of their sins, because they were turned away from my decisions and in their souls was hate for my laws.

⁷ And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword;

⁸ and five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; and your enemies shall fall beside you by the sword.

⁹ And I will turn my face towards you and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ And ye shall eat old store, and clear away the old because of the new.

¹¹ And I will set my habitation among you; and my soul shall not abhor you;

¹² and I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be to me a people.

¹³ I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you walk upright.

¹⁴ But if ye hearken not unto me, and do not all these commandments,

¹⁵ and if ye shall despise my statutes, and if your soul shall abhor mine ordinances, so that ye do not all my commandments, that ye break my covenant,

¹⁶ I also will do this unto you — I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and fever, which shall cause the eyes to fail, and the soul to waste away; and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, that ye may be routed before your enemies; they that hate you shall have dominion over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

¹⁸ And if for this ye hearken not unto me, I will punish you sevenfold more for your sins,

¹⁹ and I will break the arrogance of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as bronze,

²⁰ and your strength shall be spent in vain, and your land shall not yield its produce; and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.

²¹ And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me, I will bring sevenfold more plagues upon you according to your sins.

²² And I will send the beasts of the field among you, that they may rob you of your children, and cut off your cattle, and make you few in number; and your streets shall be desolate.

²³ And if ye will not be disciplined by me through these, but walk contrary unto me,

²⁴ then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will smite you, even I, sevenfold for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you that avengeth with the vengeance of the covenant, and ye shall be gathered together into your cities, and I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

²⁶ When I break the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and shall deliver you the bread again by weight; and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if for this ye hearken not to me, but walk contrary unto me,

²⁸ then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven-fold for your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁰ And I will lay waste your high places, and cut down your sun-pillars, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols; and my soul shall abhor you.

³¹ And I will lay waste your cities and desolate your sanctuaries; and I will not smell your sweet odours.

³² And I will bring the land into desolation; that your enemies who dwell there in may be astonished at it.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and will draw out the sword after you; and your land shall be desolation, and your cities waste.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, when ye are in your enemies' land; then shall the land rest, and enjoy its sabbaths.

³⁵ All the days of the desolation it shall rest, the days in which it did not rest on your sabbaths, when ye dwelt therein.

³⁶ And as to those that remain of you — I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, that the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth;

³⁷ and they shall stumble one over another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth; and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

³⁹ And they that remain of you shall waste away through their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also through the iniquities of their fathers shall they waste away with them.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, through their unfaithfulness wherein they were unfaithful to me, and also that they have walked contrary unto me,

⁴¹ so that I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity,

⁴² I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

⁴³ For the land shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths, when it is in desolation without them; and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they despised my judgments, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

⁷ You shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall before you.

⁸ Five of yours shall pursue a hundred others, and a hundred of you ten thousand: your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

⁹ I will look on you, and make you increase: you shell be multiplied, and I will establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ You shall eat the oldest of the old store, and, new coming on, you shall cast away the old.

¹¹ I will set my tabernacle in the midst of you, and my soul shall not cast you off.

¹² I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people.

¹³ I am the Lord your God: who have brought you out of the land of the Egyptians, that you should not serve them, and who have broken the chains of your necks, that you might go upright.

¹⁴ But if you will not hear me, nor do all my commandments,

¹⁵ If you despise my laws, and contemn my judgments so as not to do those things which are appointed by me, and to make void my covenant:

¹⁶ I also will do these things to you: I will quickly visit you with poverty, and burning heat, which shall waste your eyes, and consume your lives. You shall sow your seed in vain, which shall be devoured by your enemies.

¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you shall fall down before your enemies, and shall be made subject to them that hate you, you shall flee when no man pursueth you.

¹⁸ But if you will not yet for all this obey me: I will chastise you seven times more for your sins,

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your stubbornness, and I will make to you the heaven above as iron, and the earth as brass:

²⁰ Your labour shall be spent in vain, the ground shall not bring forth her increase, nor the trees yield their fruit.

²¹ If you walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you for your sins:

²² And I will send in upon you the beasts of the held, to destroy you and your cattle, and make you few in number, and that your highways may be desolate.

²³ And if even so you will not amend, but will walk contrary to me:

²⁴ I also will walk contrary to you, and will strike you seven times for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring in upon you the sword that shall avenge my covenant. And when you shall flee into the cities, I will send the pestilence in the midst of you, and you shall be delivered into the hands of your enemies,

²⁶ After I shall have broken the staff of your bread: so that ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and give it out by weight: and you shall eat, and shall not be filled.

²⁷ But if you will not for all this hearken to me, but will walk against me:

²⁸ I will also go against you with opposite fury, and I will chastise you with seven plagues for your sins,

²⁹ So that you shall eat the flesh of your sons and of your daughters.

³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and break your idols. You shall fall among the ruins of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

³¹ Insomuch that I will bring your cities to be a wilderness, and I will make your sanctuaries desolate, and will receive no more your sweet odours.

³² And I will destroy your land, and your enemies shall be astonished at it, when they shall be the inhabitants thereof.

³³ And I will scatter you among the Gentiles, and I will draw out the sword after you, and your land shall be desert, and your cities destroyed.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths all the days of her desolation: when you shall be

³⁵ In the enemy’s land, she shall keep a sabbath, and rest in the sabbaths of her desolation, because she did not rest in your sabbaths when you dwelt therein.

³⁶ And as to them that shall remain of you I will send fear in their hearts in the countries of their enemies, the sound of a flying leaf shall terrify them, and they shall flee as it were from the sword: they shall fall, when no man pursueth them,

³⁷ And they shall every one fall upon their brethren as fleeing from wars, none of you shall dare to resist your enemies.

³⁸ You shall perish among the Gentiles, and an enemy’s land shall consume you.

³⁹ And if of them also some remain, they shall pine away in their iniquities, in the land of their enemies, and they shall be afflicted for the sins of their fathers, and their own:

⁴⁰ Until they confess their iniquities and the iniquities of their ancestors, whereby they have transgressed me, and walked contrary unto me.

⁴¹ Therefore I also will walk them, and bring them into their enemies’ land until their uncircumcised mind be ashamed: then shall they pray for their sins.

⁴² And I will remember my covenant, that I made with Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham. I will remember also the land:

⁴³ Which when she shall be left by them, shall enjoy her sabbaths, being desolate for them. But they shall pray for their sins, because they rejected my judgments, and despised my laws.

⁷ You will chase your enemies, and kill them with the sword.

⁸ Five of you will kill one hundred, and one hundred of you will kill ten thousand. You will destroy your enemies.

⁹ I will come to help you, so you will reproduce and increase in numbers, and I will confirm my agreement with you.

¹⁰ You'll still be eating your old stock of grain when you need to get rid of it so you can store the new grain.

¹¹ I will come and live with you—I certainly won't reject you.

¹² I shall always be right there with you. I will be your God, and you will be my people.

¹³ I am the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt so you wouldn't have to be slaves to the Egyptians any longer. I smashed the yoke that kept you bent down and helped you to stand up straight.

¹⁴ But if you don't pay attention to me and do what I tell you;

¹⁵ if you reject my laws, hate my regulations, and refuse to follow my commandments, and consequently break my agreement,

¹⁶ then this is what I am going to do to you: I will make you panic, and suffer from diseases like tuberculosis and fever that make you blind and drain your life away. It will be pointless for you to sow seed in your fields because your enemies will eat the harvest.

¹⁷ I will turn against you, and you'll be defeated by your enemies. People who hate you will rule over you, and you'll run away even when there's no one chasing you!

¹⁸ If after all this you still refuse to obey me, I will move to punishing you seven times over for your sins.

¹⁹ I will break your self-reliant strength you're so proud of, and make your sky hard as iron and your land hard as bronze.

²⁰ Your strength will be completely wasted because your land won't produce crops, and your trees won't produce fruit.

²¹ If you go on opposing me and refusing to do what I tell you, I will make your punishments seven times worse, based on your sins.

²² I will send wild animals to kill your children, wipe out your livestock, and make you so few in number that there won't be anyone on your roads.

²³ However, if in spite of all this correction you still don't change but go on opposing me,

²⁴ then I will take action against you. I will punish you seven times over for your sins.

²⁵ I will send enemies with swords to attack you in retaliation for breaking the agreement. Even though you retreat into your towns for defense, I will plague you with disease, and you will be handed over to your enemies.

²⁶ I will send a famine so bread is in short supply. One oven will serve the needs of ten women baking bread. It will be distributed by weight so that you'll eat but won't have enough.

²⁷ However, if in spite of all this you don't obey me, but go on opposing me,

²⁸ then I will take action against you in a rage of fury, and I will punish you myself seven times over for your sins.

²⁹ You will eat the bodies of your own sons and daughters.

³⁰ I will destroy your high places of worship, smash your altars of incense, and pile up your dead bodies on what remains of your idols, which also have no life at all. I will really despise you.

³¹ I will demolish your towns and destroy your pagan sanctuaries, and I will refuse to accept your sacrifices.

³² I will devastate your land myself, so that your enemies who come and live in it will be horrified at what has happened.

³³ I'm going to scatter you among the nations. You will be chased out by armies with swords as your land is ruined and your towns are destroyed.

³⁴ At least then the land will be able to enjoy its Sabbaths all the time it's abandoned while you are in exile in the land of your enemies. The land will finally be able to rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.

³⁵ The whole time it's abandoned the land will observe the Sabbaths of rest that it wasn't able to do while you were living there.

³⁶ I will make those of you who survive so discouraged that as you live in the lands of your enemies even the sound of a leaf blowing in the wind will scare you into running away! You'll run away like you're being chased by someone with a sword, and fall down even though no one is after you.

³⁷ You'll trip over each other as you run away from the attack, then though no one's there. You'll have no power to resist your enemies.

³⁸ You'll die in exile and you'll be buried in a foreign country.

³⁹ Those of you who do manage to survive in the countries of your enemies will wither away because of their guilt, decaying as they share the sins of their fathers.

⁴⁰ They need to confess their sins and those of their fathers, acting in such an unfaithful way towards me, opposing me.

⁴¹ Because of this I took action against them and exiled them in the countries of their enemies. However, if they humbly give up their stubborn attitude and accept their punishment for their sins,

⁴² then I will fulfill the agreement I made with Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham, and I will not forget my promise about the land.

⁴³ For the land will be left empty by them, and it will enjoy its Sabbaths being abandoned. They will pay for their sins, because they rejected my rules and regulations.

⁷ Also ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you vpon the sworde.

⁸ And fiue of you shall chase an hundreth, and an hundreth of you shall put ten thousande to flight, and your enemies shall fall before you vpon the sworde.

⁹ For I will haue respect vnto you, and make you encrease, and multiplie you, and establish my couenant with you.

¹⁰ Ye shall eate also olde store, and cary out olde because of the newe.

¹¹ And I will set my Tabernacle among you, and my soule shall not lothe you.

¹² Also I will walke among you, and I wil be your God, and ye shalbe my people.

¹³ I am the Lord your God which haue brought you out of the lande of Egypt, that yee should not be their bondmen, and I haue broken ye bonds of your yoke, and made you goe vpright.

¹⁴ But if ye will not obey me, nor do all these commandements,

¹⁵ And if ye shall despise mine ordinances, either if your soule abhorre my lawes, so that yee will not do all my commandements, but breake my couenant,

¹⁶ Then wil I also do this vnto you, I wil appoint ouer you fearefulnes, a consumption, and the burning ague to consume the eyes, and make the heart heauie, and you shall sowe your seede in vaine: for your enemies shall eate it:

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall fal before your enemies, and they that hate you, shall raigne ouer you, and yee shall flee when none pursueth you.

¹⁸ And if ye wil not for these things obey me, then wil I punish you seuen times more, according to your sinnes,

¹⁹ And I wil breake the pride of your power, and I will make your heauen as yron, and your earth as brasse:

²⁰ And your strength shalbe spent in vaine: neither shall your lande giue her increase, neither shall the trees of the land giue their fruite.

²¹ And if ye walke stubburnly against me, and will not obey mee, I will then bring seuen times more plagues vpon you, according to your sinnes.

²² I will also sende wilde beastes vpon you, which shall spoyle you, and destroy your cattell, and make you fewe in number: so your hye waies shalbe desolate.

²³ Yet if by these ye will not be reformed by me, but walke stubburnly against me,

²⁴ Then wil I also walke stubburnly against you, and I will smite you yet seuen times for your sinnes:

²⁵ And I wil send a sword vpon you, that shall auenge the quarel of my couenant: and when ye are gathered in your cities, I wil send the pestilence among you, and ye shall be deliuered into the hand of the enemie.

²⁶ When I shall breake the staffe of your bread, then ten women shall bake your breade in one ouen, and they shall deliuer your bread againe by weight, and ye shall eate, but not be satisfied.

²⁷ Yet if ye will not for this obey mee, but walke against me stubburnly,

²⁸ Then will I walke stubburnly in mine anger against you, and I will also chastice you seuen times more according to your sinnes.

²⁹ And ye shall eate ye flesh of your sonnes, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye deuoure.

³⁰ I will also destroy your hye places, and cut away your images, and cast your carkeises vpon the bodies of your idoles, and my soule shall abhorre you.

³¹ And I will make your cities desolate, and bring your Sanctuarie vnto nought, and will not smelll the sauour of your sweete odours.

³² I will also bring the land vnto a wildernes, and your enemies, which dwell therein, shalbe astonished thereat.

³³ Also I wil scatter you among the heathen, and will drawe out a sworde after you, and your land shalbe waste, and your cities shalbe desolate.

³⁴ Then shall the land inioy her Sabbaths, as long as it lieth voide, and yee shalbe in your enemies land: then shall the land rest, and enioy her Sabbaths.

³⁵ All the dayes that it lieth voide, it shall rest, because it did not rest in your Sabbaths, when ye dwelt vpon it.

³⁶ And vpon them that are left of you, I will send euen a faintnes into their hearts in ye land of their enemies, and the sounde of a leafeshaken shall chase them, and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall, no man pursuing them.

³⁷ They shall fall also one vpon another, as before a sword, though none pursue them, and ye shall not be able to stand before your enemies:

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eate you vp.

³⁹ And they that are left of you, shall pine away for their iniquitie, in your enemies landes, and for the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them also.

⁴⁰ Then they shall confesse their iniquitie, and the wickednes of their fathers for their trespasse, which they haue trespassed against mee, and also because they haue walked stubburnly against me.

⁴¹ Therefore I wil walke stubburnly against them, and bring them into the land of their enemies: so then their vncircumcised hearts shalbe humbled, and then they shalt willingly beare the punishment of their iniquitie.

⁴² Then I will remember my couenant with Iaakob, and my couenant also with Izhak, and also my couenant with Abraham will I remember, and will remember the land.

⁴³ The land also in the meane season shalbe left of them, and shall enioye her Sabbaths while she lieth waste without them, but they shall willingly suffer the punishment of their iniquitie, because they despised my lawes, and because their soule abhorred mine ordinances.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their treachery which they committed against Me, and also that they have walked contrary unto Me.

⁴¹ I also will walk contrary unto them, and bring them into the land of their enemies; if then perchance their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then be paid the punishment of their iniquity;

⁴² then will I remember My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

⁴³ For the land shall lie forsaken without them, and shall be paid her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them; and they shall be paid the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected Mine ordinances, and their soul abhorred My statutes.

⁷ And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

⁸ And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

⁹ For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle amongst you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

¹² And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

¹³ I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

¹⁴ But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

¹⁵ and if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

¹⁶ I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies; they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

¹⁸ And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

²⁰ and your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

²¹ And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times moe plagues upon you according to your sins.

²² I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

²³ And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

²⁴ then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

²⁶ And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

²⁸ then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

³¹ And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

³² And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

³³ And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

³⁵ As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

³⁶ And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

³⁷ And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

³⁹ And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

¹⁸ And if with these things even ye will not yet hearken unto me: then will I chastise you yet more, sevenfold for your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as copper:

²⁰ And in vain shall your strength be spent; for your land shall not yield her products, and the tree of the land shall not yield its fruit.

²¹ And if ye walk yet contrary unto me, and if you refuse to hearken unto me: then will I bring more plagues upon you, sevenfold according to your sins.

²² And I will send out against you the beasts of the field, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and diminish yourselves; so that your roads shall be desolate.

³⁴ Then shall the land satisfy its sabbaths, all the days of its desolation, when ye are in the land of your enemies: then shall the land rest, and satisfy its sabbaths.

³⁵ All the days of its desolation shall it rest, the time which it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

³⁶ And regarding those that are left of you, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a leaf shaken shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from the sword; and they shall fall with none pursuing.

³⁷ And they shall stumble one over the other, as before the sword, without one pursuing: and ye shall have no power to stand up before your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall be lost among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall consume you.

³⁹ And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in the land of your enemies; and also through the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

⁹ And I will look upon you, and increase you, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ And ye shall eat that which is old and very old, and bring forth the old to make way for the new.

¹⁴ But if ye will not hearken to me, nor obey these my ordinances,

¹⁵ but disobey them, and your soul should loathe my judgments, so that ye should not keep all my commands, so as to break my covenant,

¹⁶ then will I do thus to you: I will even bring upon you perplexity and the itch, and the fever that causes your eyes to waste away, and disease that consumes your life; and ye shall sow your seeds in vain, and your enemies shall eat them.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you, and ye shall fall before your enemies, and they that hate you shall pursue you; and ye shall flee, no one pursuing you.

¹⁸ And if ye still refuse to hearken to me, then will I chasten you yet more even seven times for your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break down the haughtiness of your pride; and I will make your heaven iron, and your earth as it were brass.

²⁰ And your strength shall be in vain; and your land shall not yield its seed, and the tree of your field shall not yield its fruit.

²¹ And if after this ye should walk perversely, and not be willing to obey me, I will further bring upon you seven plagues according to your sins.

²² And I will send upon you the wild beasts of the land, and they shall devour you, and shall consume your cattle: and I will make you few in number, and your ways shall be desolate.

²³ And if hereupon ye are not corrected, but walk perversely toward me,

²⁴ I also will walk with you with a perverse spirit, and I also will smite you seven times for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring upon you a sword avenging the cause of my covenant, and ye shall flee for refuge to your cities; and I will send out death against you, and ye shall be delivered into the hands of your enemies.

²⁶ When I afflict you with famine of bread, then ten women shall bake your loaves in one oven, and they shall render your loaves by weight; and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if hereupon ye will not obey me, but walk perversely toward me,

²⁸ then will I walk with you with a froward mind, and I will chasten you sevenfold according to your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

³⁰ And I will render your pillars desolate, and will utterly destroy your wooden images made with hands; and I will lay your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall loathe you.

³¹ And I will lay your cities waste, and I will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell the savor of your sacrifices.

³² And I will lay your land desolate, and your enemies who dwell in it shall wonder at it.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and the sword shall come upon you and consume you; and your land shall be desolate, and your cities shall be desolate.

³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its desolation.

³⁵ And ye shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall keep its Sabbaths, and the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its desolation: it shall keep Sabbaths which it kept not among your Sabbaths, when ye dwelt in it.

³⁶ And to those who are left of you I will bring bondage into their heart in the land of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee as fleeing from war, and shall fall when none pursues them.

³⁷ And brother shall disregard brother as in war, when none pursues; and ye shall not be able to withstand your enemies.

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the Gentiles, and the land of your enemies shall devour you.

³⁹ And those who are left of you shall perish, because of their sins, and because of the sins of their fathers: in the land of their enemies shall they consume away.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their sins, and the sins of their fathers, that they have transgressed and neglected me, and that they have walked perversely before me,

⁴¹ and I walked with them with a perverse mind; and I will destroy them in the land of their enemies: then shall their uncircumcised heart be ashamed, and then shall they acquiesce in the punishment of their sins.

⁴² And I will remember the covenant of Jacob, and the covenant of Isaac, and the covenant of Abraham will I remember.

⁴³ And I will remember the land, and the land shall be left of them; then the land shall enjoy her Sabbaths, when it is deserted through them: and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquities, because they neglected my judgments, and in their soul loathed my ordinances.

⁸ And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you put a myriad to flight, and your adversaries shall fall before you by the sword.

⁹ For I will have regard to you in my Word, to do you good, and will add to you, and multiply you, and establish My covenant with you.

¹⁰ And you shall eat the old of the old, and shall turn out the old before the new.

¹¹ And I will set My Tabernacle among you, and My Word shall not reject you.

¹² And I will make My Shekinah to dwell among you, and I will be to you Eloha, and you shall be a people before Me.

¹³ I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Mizraim, that you should not be bondmen to them; and I brake off the yoke of the Gentiles from you, and brought you into liberty.

¹⁴ But if you will not be obedient to My Word, nor perform all these commandments;

¹⁵ And if you despise My statutes, and your soul abhor My judgments, so as not to do all My commandments, by your making My covenant of no effect, (or, by your changing My covenant,)

¹⁶ I also will do this unto you: I will visit you with trouble, wasting and burning with darkness of eyes, and exhaustion of soul; and ye shall sow your seed in vain for your enemies shall eat it.

¹⁷ And I will reveal My anger against you, and you shall be broken before your enemies; they that hate you shall reign over you, and ye shall flee when no one pursueth you.

¹⁸ And if yet with these ye will not obey My Word, I will add sevenfold chastisement upon your sins.

¹⁹ And I will break the glory of your power, and will make the heavens above you obdurate as iron, to give no rain, and the ground beneath you hard as brass in yielding no fruit;

²⁰ And your strength shall be put forth in vain, for your ground will not yield its produce, nor the tree of the earth its fruit.

²¹ And if you will walk on forwardly before Me, and will not turn again to obey My Word, I will add to bring upon you a stroke sevenfold (heavier) according to your sins.

²² And I will send the beast of the wilderness against you, and it shall devour you, and consume your cattle, and diminish you, and make your ways desolate.

²³ And if through these (calamities) ye will not be corrected by My Word, but will walk before Me with hardness (of heart),

²⁴ I also will proceed with you in hardness, and will smite you, even I, sevenfold for your sins.

²⁵ And I will bring upon you those who kill with the sword, who shall take vengeance upon you in punishment for your transgressions against the words of the law. And you will congregate in your cities; but I will send forth the pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hands of your enemies.

²⁶ When I shall have broken for you the support of food, ten women will prepare your bread in one oven, and return your bread by weight, and you will eat, but will not be satisfied.

²⁷ And if with this you will not be obedient to My Word, but will walk before me with obstinacy,

²⁸ I will proceed with you with strengthened anger, and will chastise you, even I, sevenfold for your sins.

²⁹ And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters will you eat.

³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and will throw your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and My Word shall abhor you.

³¹ And I will make your cities a waste, and lay waste your sanctuary, and accept no more the offering of your congregation.

³² And I will make your country a wilderness, and your enemies who will dwell in it shall spread desolation upon it.

³³ And I will disperse you among the nations, and draw out after you them who kill with the sword, and your country shall be a desert and your cities a waste.

³⁴ Then shall the land enjoy her repose all the days in which it shall be a desert, and you be in the land of your enemies: so shall the land repose, and enjoy her remission:

³⁵ All the days of its desolateness it shall rest; because it did not rest in your times of intermission, when you were inhabitants upon it.

³⁶ And to the heart of those of you who are left in the land of their enemies will I send brokenness, and they shall flee at the sound of a falling leaf; they shall flee as flying from before those who kill with the sword, and fall, while no man pursueth.

³⁷ They shall thrust, one man against his brother, as (fugitives) from before them who destroy with the sword, while no one is pursuing and ye shall have no power against your adversaries;

³⁸ And ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall consume you.

³⁹ And they who are left of shall pine away in your sins, in their adversaries’ land, and for their sins, also, the evil deeds of their fathers which their own hands hold fast, shall they pine away.

⁴⁰ But, if they will confess their sins, and the sins of their fathers, and their falseness with which they have acted falsely before My Word, and that they have walked before me in obduracy,

⁴¹ (while) I also have dealt against them with sharpness, and brought them into the land of their enemies; when then their stout heart shall be broken, and they concur with (the punishment of) their sins,

⁴² I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and my covenant with Izhak, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember, and I will remember the land.

⁴³ But the land shall be left by them, and shall enjoy her repose while made desolate for them, and they shall receive (the punishment of) their sins; curses instead of blessings will I have brought upon them who had cast away My judgments, and whose soul had abhorred My statutes.

⁷ You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

³² I will bring the land into desolation; and your enemies that dwell therein will be astonished at it.

³³ I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you. Your land will be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.

³⁴ Then the land will enjoy its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land. Even then the land will rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.

³⁵ As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it didn’t have in your Sabbaths, when you lived on it.

³⁶ “‘As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword. They will fall when no one pursues.

³⁷ They will stumble over one another, as it were before the sword, when no one pursues. You will have no power to stand before your enemies.

⁴³ The land also will be left by them, and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them: and they will accept the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected my judgments, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

⁷ You will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword.

⁸ Five of you will chase away a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand; your enemies will fall before you by the sword.

⁹ I will look at you with favor and make you fruitful and multiply you; I will establish my covenant with you.

¹⁰ You will eat food stored a long time. You will have to bring out the stored food because you will need the room for the new harvest.

¹¹ I will place my tabernacle among you, and I will not detest you.

¹² I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.

¹³ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would not be their slaves. I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you to walk standing up straight.

¹⁴ But if you will not listen to me, and will not obey all these commandments,

¹⁵ and if you reject my decrees and detest my laws, so that you will not obey all my commandments, but break my covenant—

¹⁶ —if you do these things, then I will do this to you: I will inflict terror on you, diseases and fever that will destroy the eyes and will drain away your life. You will plant your seeds for nothing, because your enemies will eat their produce.

¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you will be overpowered by your enemies. Men who hate you will rule over you, and you will run away, even when no one is chasing you.

¹⁸ If after all this you do not listen to me, then I will punish you seven times as severely for your sins.

¹⁹ I will break your pride in your power. I will make the sky over you like iron and your land like bronze.

¹¹ I shall set my tabernacle in the midst of you, and my soul shall not cast you away;

¹² I shall go among you, and I shall be your God, and ye shall be a people to me.

¹³ I am your Lord God, that led you out of the land of Egyptians, that ye should not serve them, and I have broken the chains off your nolls, that ye should go upright.

¹⁴ That if ye hear not me, neither do all my behests,

¹⁵ and if ye forsake my laws, and despise my dooms, that ye do not those things that be ordained of me, and that ye bring follily my covenant to nought,

¹⁶ also I shall do these things to you; I shall visit you swiftly in neediness, and in burning, which shall torment your eyes, and waste your lives; in vain ye shall sow seed, that shall be devoured of enemies;

¹⁷ I shall set my face against you, and ye shall fall before your enemies, and ye shall be subjects or be subject to them that hate you; ye shall flee, while no man pursueth you.

¹⁸ But if neither so ye obey to me, I shall increase your chastising sevenfold for your sins;

¹⁹ and I shall all-break the pride of your hardness, and I shall give to you heaven above as iron, and the earth as brass;

²⁰ your travail shall be wasted in vain, neither the earth shall bring forth fruit, neither the trees shall give apples.

²¹ If ye go contrary to me, neither will hear me, I shall increase your wounds, either vengeances, till into sevenfold for your sins;

²² I shall send out into you cruel beasts of the field, that shall waste you, and your beasts, and shall bring all things to fewness, and your ways shall be forsaken.

²³ That if neither so ye will receive doctrine, either chastising, but go contrary to me,

²⁴ also I shall go adversary against you, and I shall smite you seven times for your sins;

²⁵ and I shall bring in on you the sword, avenger of my bond of peace; and when ye flee into your cities, I shall send pestilence into the midst of you, and ye shall be betaken in the hands of your enemies,

²⁶ after that I have broken the staff of your bread, so that ten women shall bake their loaves in one oven, and yield, or deliver, those loaves at weight; and ye shall eat, and ye shall not be fulfilled.

²⁷ But if neither by these things ye will hear me, but go against me,

²⁸ and I shall go against you in contrary strong vengeance, and I shall chastise you by seven vengeances for your sins,

²⁹ so that ye eat the flesh of your sons, and of your daughters;

³⁰ I shall destroy your high things, and I shall break your simulacra; ye shall fall betwixt the fallings of your idols, and my soul shall have you abominable,

³¹ in so much that I shall turn your cities into wilderness, and make your saintuaries forsaken, neither I shall receive more the sweetest odour;

³² and I shall destroy your land, and your enemies shall be astonied thereon, when they shall be dwellers thereof;

³³ forsooth I shall scatter you into folks, or into heathen men, and I shall draw out of the sheath the sword after you, and your land shall be forsaken, and your cities shall be cast down.

³⁴ Then his sabbaths shall please the earth, in all the days of his wilderness; when ye be in the land of enemies, it shall keep sabbath,

³⁵ and it shall rest in the sabbaths of his wilderness, for it rested not in your sabbaths, when ye dwelled therein.

³⁶ And I shall give dread in their hearts, that shall abide of you, in the countries of your enemies; the sound of a leaf flying shall make them afeared, and so they shall flee it as a sword; they shall fall, while none pursueth,

³⁷ and all they shall fall upon their brethren, as men fleeing battles; no man of you shall be hardy to against-stand enemies;

³⁸ ye shall perish among heathen men, and the land of enemies shall waste you.

³⁹ That if some of these Jews dwell, they shall fail in their wickednesses, in the land of their enemies; and they shall be tormented for the sins of their fathers, and for their own sins,

⁴⁰ till they acknowledge their wicked-nesses, and have mind of their evils, by which they trespassed against me, and went contrary to me.

⁴¹ Therefore and I shall go against them, and I shall bring them into the land of their enemies, till the uncir-cumcised soul of them be ashamed; then they shall pray for their wicked-ness,

⁴² and I shall have mind of my bond of peace, that I covenanted with Jacob, Isaac, and with Abraham; also I shall be mindful of the land,

⁴³ which, when it is left of them, shall please to itself in his sabbaths, and shall suffer wilderness for them; forsooth they shall pray for their sins, for they casted away my dooms, and despised my laws;

⁷ Ye shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall before you;

⁸ five of your men shall pursue an hundred aliens, and an hundred of you shall pursue ten thousand; your enemies shall fall by sword in your sight (or your enemies shall fall by the sword before you).

⁹ I shall behold you, and I shall make you to increase; ye shall be multiplied; and I shall make steadfast my covenant with you;

¹⁰ ye shall eat the eldest of (the) eld things, and (then) ye shall cast away the eld things, when the new things shall come above (or when the new things shall come forth);

¹¹ I shall set my tabernacle in the midst of you, and my soul shall not cast you away;

(I am the Lord your God, who led you out of the land of the Egyptians, so that ye would no longer serve them, and I have broken the chains from off your necks, so that ye could walk upright.)

¹⁴ That if ye hear not me, neither do all my behests, (But if ye will not listen to me, nor do all my commands,)

¹⁵ and if ye forsake my laws, and despise my dooms, that ye do not those things that be ordained of me, and that ye bring follily my covenant to nought, (and if ye forsake my laws, and despise my judgements, so that ye do not do those things that be ordained by me, but ye foolishly break my covenant,)

¹⁶ also I shall do these things to you; I shall visit you swiftly in neediness, and in burning, which shall torment your eyes, and waste your lives; in vain ye shall sow seed, that shall be devoured of enemies; (then I shall do these things to you; I shall swiftly visit you with want, or with need, and with burning, which shall torment your eyes, and shall waste your lives; ye shall sow your seed in vain, for it shall be devoured by your enemies;)

¹⁷ I shall set my face against you, and ye shall fall before your enemies, and ye shall be subjects to them that hate you (or and ye shall be made subject to them who hate you); (and) ye shall flee, while no man pursueth you.

¹⁸ But if neither so ye obey to me (or And if ye shall still not obey me), I shall increase your chastising sevenfold for your sins;

¹⁹ and I shall all-break the pride of your hardness, and I shall give to you heaven above as iron, and the earth as brass; (and I shall break in pieces all of your hard-headed pride; and I shall make the heavens above you like iron, and the earth beneath you like bronze;)

²⁰ your travail shall be wasted in vain, neither the earth shall bring forth fruit, neither the trees shall give apples. (all your labour shall be in vain, the land shall not bring forth any harvest, nor shall the trees give forth any fruit.)

²¹ If ye go contrary to me, neither will hear me (or and will not listen to me), I shall increase your wounds, either vengeances, till into sevenfold for your sins;

²² I shall send out into you cruel beasts of the field (or I shall send cruel wild beasts among you), that shall waste you, and your beasts, and shall bring all things to fewness, and your (by)ways shall be forsaken.

²³ That if neither so ye will receive doctrine, either chastising, but go contrary to me, (And if ye will still not receive chastising, or discipline, but continue to go contrary to me,)

²⁴ also I shall go adversary against you, and I shall smite you seven times for your sins; (then I shall also be your adversary or then I shall also go contrary to you, and I shall strike you seven times for your sins;)

²⁵ and I shall bring in on you the sword, venger of my bond of peace (or the avenger of my covenant); and when ye flee into your cities, I shall send pestilence into the midst of you, and ye shall be betaken in(to) the hands of your enemies,

²⁶ after that I have broken the staff of your bread, so that ten women shall bake their loaves in one oven, and (they shall) yield, or deliver, those loaves at weight; and ye shall eat (them), and (yet) ye shall not be fulfilled.

²⁷ But if neither by these things ye will hear me, but go against me, (And if, in spite of all these things, ye still will not listen to me, but continue to go against me,)

²⁸ and I shall go against you in contrary strong vengeance, and I shall chastise you by seven vengeances for your sins, (then I also shall be contrary, and go against you with strong vengeance, and I shall chastise you seven times for your sins,)

²⁹ so that ye (shall) eat the flesh of your sons, and of your daughters;

³⁰ I shall destroy your high things, and I shall break your simulacra, (or I shall destroy your high places, or your hill shrines, and I shall break your idols); ye shall fall betwixt the fallings of your idols, and my soul shall have you abominable,

³¹ in so much that I shall turn your cities into wilderness, and make your saintuaries forsaken, neither I shall receive more the sweetest odour; (in so much that I shall turn your cities into wilderness, and make your sanctuaries forsaken, nor shall I receive from you any more the sweetest aroma;)

³² and I shall destroy your land, and your enemies shall be astonished thereon, when they shall be dwellers thereof; (and I shall destroy your land, and your enemies, when they become its inhabitants, shall be astonished at what hath happened there;)

³³ forsooth I shall scatter you into folks, or into heathen men, and I shall draw out of the sheath the sword after you, (or yea, I shall scatter you among the heathen, and I shall draw the sword out of its sheath, and come after you), and your land shall be forsaken, and your cities shall be cast down.

³⁴ Then his sabbaths shall please the earth, in all the days of his wilderness; when ye be in the land of (your) enemies, it shall keep sabbath, (Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths, in all the days of its wilderness; while ye be in the land of your enemies, it shall keep the Sabbaths, that is, the land shall take rest,)

³⁵ and it shall rest in the sabbaths of his wilderness, for it rested not in your sabbaths, when ye dwelled therein. (yea, it shall rest on its Sabbaths in its time of wilderness, for it did not rest on your Sabbaths, when ye still lived there.)

³⁶ And I shall give dread in their hearts, that shall abide of you, in the countries of your enemies; the sound of a leaf flying shall make them afeared, and so they shall flee it as a sword; they shall fall, while none pursueth, (And I shall put fear in the hearts of those who be left of you, in the countries of your enemies; the sound of a leaf flying in the wind shall make them afraid, and they shall flee it like a sword; they shall fall, when no one pursueth them,)

³⁷ and all they shall fall upon their brethren, as men fleeing battles (out of fear); no man of you shall be hardy to against-stand (your) enemies; (and they all shall fall upon their brothers, like men fearfully fleeing from battle; not one of you shall be hardy to stand against your enemies;)

³⁸ ye shall perish among heathen men, and the land of (your) enemies shall waste you.

³⁹ That if some of these Jews dwell (or And those Jews who shall still remain), they shall fail in their wickednesses, in the land of their enemies; and they shall be tormented for the sins of their fathers, and for their own sins,

⁴⁰ till they acknowledge their wickednesses, and have mind of their evils (or and remember their evil-doing), by which they trespassed against me, and went contrary to me.

⁴¹ Therefore and I shall go against them (or And so I shall go against them), and I shall bring them into the land of their enemies, till the uncircumcised soul of them be ashamed; then they shall pray for (the forgiveness of) their wickedness,

⁴² and I shall have mind of my bond of peace, that I covenanted with Jacob, Isaac, and with Abraham; also I shall be mindful of the land, (and I shall remember my covenant, which I made with Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham; and I shall remember the land,)

⁴³ which, when it is left of them, shall please to itself in his sabbaths, and shall suffer wilderness for them; forsooth they shall pray for their sins, for they casted away my dooms, and despised my laws; (which, when it is rid of them, shall enjoy its Sabbaths, and shall become a wilderness without them; and they shall pray for the forgiveness of their sins, for they threw away my judgements, and despised my laws;)

⁷ Ye schulen pursue youre enemyes, and thei schulen falle bifor you;

⁸ fyue of youre men schulen pursue an hundrid aliens, and an hundrid of you schulen pursue ten thousande; youre enemyes schulen falle bi swerd in youre siyt.

⁹ Y schal biholde you, and Y schal make you to encreesse; ye schulen be multiplied; and Y schal make stedfast my couenaunt with you;

¹⁰ ye schulen ete the eldest of elde thingis, and ye schulen caste forth elde thingis, whanne newe thingis schulen come aboue;

¹¹ Y schal sette my tabernacle in the myddis of you, and my soule schal not caste you awey;

¹² Y schal go among you, and Y schal be youre God, and ye schulen be a puple to me.

¹³ Y am youre Lord God, that ledde you out of the lond of Egipcians, that ye schulden not serue hem, and which haue broke the chaynes of youre nollis, that ye schulde go vpriyt.

¹⁴ That if ye heren not me, nether doon alle myn heestis,

¹⁵ and if ye forsaken my lawis, and despisen my domes, that ye doon not tho thingis that ben ordeyned of me, and that ye brengen my couenaunt to auoydyng, also Y schal do these thingis to you;

¹⁶ Y schal visyte you swiftly in nedynesse and brennyng, which schal turment youre iyen, and schal waste youre lyues; in veyn ye schulen sowe seed, that schal be deuourid of enemyes;

¹⁷ Y schal sette my face ayens you, and ye schulen falle bifor youre enemyes, and ye schulen be sugetis to hem that haten you; ye schulen fle, while no man pursueth.

¹⁸ But if nether so ye obeyen to me, Y schal adde youre chastisyngis seuenfold for youre synnes;

¹⁹ and Y schal al tobreke the pride of youre hardnesse, and Y schal yyue to you heuene aboue as of yrun, and the erthe as bras;

²⁰ youre trauel schal be wastid in veyn, nether the erthe schal brynge forth fruyt, nethir trees schulen yyue applis.

²¹ If ye goon contrarie to me, nether wolen here me, Y schal adde youre woundis til in to seuenfold for youre synnes;

²² Y schal sende out in to you cruel beestis of the feeld, that schulen waste you and youre beestis, and schulen brynge alle thingis to fewnesse, and youre weies schulen be forsakun.

²³ That if nether so ye wolen resseyue doctryn, but goon contrarie to me,

²⁴ also Y schal go aduersarie ayens you, and Y schal smyte you seuen sithis for youre synnes;

²⁵ and Y schal brynge yn on you the swerd, vengere of my boond of pees ; and whanne ye fleen in to citees, Y schal sende pestilence in the myddis of you, and ye schulen be bitakun in the hondis of enemyes,

²⁶ aftir that Y haue broke the staf of youre breed, so that ten wymmen bake looues in oon ouene, and yelde tho looues at weiyte; and ye schulen ete, and ye schulen not be fillid.

²⁷ But if nethir bi these thingis ye heren me, but goon ayens me,

²⁸ and Y schal go ayens you in contrarie woodnesse, and Y schal chastise you bi seuene veniaunces for youre synnes,

²⁹ so that ye ete the fleischis of youre sones, and of youre douytris;

³⁰ Y schal destrie youre hiye thingis, and Y schal breke youre symylacris; ye schulen falle bitwixe the fallyngis of your ydols, and my soule schal haue you abhomynable,

³¹ in so myche that Y turne youre citees in to wildirnesse, and make youre seyntuaries forsakun, nether Y schal resseyue more the swettest odour;

³² and Y schal destrye youre lond, and youre enemyes schulen be astonyed theronne, whanne thei schulen be enhabiters therof;

³³ forsothe Y schal scatere you in to folkis, ether hethen men, and Y schal drawe out of the schethe the swerd aftir you, and youre lond schal be forsakun, and youre citees schulen be cast doun.

³⁴ Thanne `hise sabatis schulen plese the erthe, in alle the daies of his wildirnesse; whanne ye ben in the lond of enemyes,

³⁵ it schal `kepe sabat, and schal reste in the sabatis of his wildirnesse, for it restide not in youre sabatis, whanne ye dwelliden therynne.

³⁶ And Y schal yyue drede in `the hertis of hem, whiche schulen abide of you, in the cuntreis of enemyes; the sown of a leef fleynge schal make hem aferd, and so thei schulen fle it as a swerd; thei schulen falle, while noon pursueth,

³⁷ and alle schulen falle on her britheren, as fleynge bateils; no man of you schal be hardi to ayenstonde enemyes;

³⁸ ye schulen perische among hethen men, and the lond of enemyes schal waaste you.

³⁹ That if summe of these Jewes dwellen, thei schulen faile in her wickidnessis, in the lond of her enemyes, and thei schulen be turmentid for the synne of her fadris,

⁴⁰ and for her owne synnes, til thei knoulechen her wickidnesses, and han mynde of her yuels, bi whiche thei trespassiden ayens me, and yeden contrarie to me.

⁴¹ Therfor and Y schal go ayens hem, and Y schal brynge hem in to the lond of enemyes, til the vncircumcidid soule of hem be aschamed; thanne thei schulen preie for her wickidnesses,

⁴² and Y schal haue mynde of my boond of pees, which Y couenauntide with Jacob, Ysaac, and Abraham; also Y schal be myndeful of the lond,

⁴³ which, whanne it is left of hem, schal plese to it silf in `his sabatis, and schal suffre wildirnesse for hem; forsothe thei schulen preye for her synnes, for thei castiden awey my domes, and despyseden my lawis;

⁷ 'And ye have pursued your enemies, and they have fallen before you by the sword;

⁸ and five of you have pursued a hundred, and a hundred of you do pursue a myriad; and your enemies have fallen before you by the sword.

⁹ 'And I have turned unto you, and have made you fruitful, and have multiplied you, and have established My covenant with you;

¹⁰ and ye have eaten old store, and the old because of the new ye bring out.

¹¹ 'And I have given My tabernacle in your midst, and My soul doth not loathe you;

¹² and I have walked habitually in your midst, and have become your God, and ye — ye are become My people;

¹³ I am Jehovah your God, who have brought you out of the land of the Egyptians, from being their servants; and I break the bars of your yoke, and cause you to go erect.

¹⁴ 'And if ye do not hearken to Me, and do not all these commands;

¹⁵ and if at My statutes ye kick, and if My judgments your soul loathe, so as not to do all My commands — to your breaking My covenant —

¹⁶ I also do this to you, and I have appointed over you trouble, the consumption, and the burning fever, consuming eyes, and causing pain of soul; and your seed in vain ye have sowed, and your enemies have eaten it;

¹⁷ and I have set My face against you, and ye have been smitten before your enemies; and those hating you have ruled over you, and ye have fled, and there is none pursuing you.

¹⁸ 'And if unto these ye hearken not to Me, — then I have added to chastise you seven times for your sins;

¹⁹ and I have broken the pride of your strength, and have made your heavens as iron, and your earth as brass;

²⁰ and consumed hath been your strength in vain, and your land doth not give her produce, and the tree of the land doth not give its fruit.

²¹ 'And if ye walk with Me in opposition, and are not willing to hearken to Me, then I have added to you a plague seven times, according to your sins,

²² and sent against you the beast of the field, and it hath bereaved you; and I have cut off your cattle, and have made you few, and your ways have been desolate.

²³ 'And if by these ye are not instructed by Me, and have walked with Me in opposition,

²⁴ then I have walked — I also — with you in opposition, and have smitten you, even I, seven times for your sins;

²⁵ and I have brought in on you a sword, executing the vengeance of a covenant; and ye have been gathered unto your cities, and I have sent pestilence into your midst, and ye have been given into the hand of an enemy.

²⁶ 'In My breaking to you the staff of bread, then ten women have baked your bread in one oven, and have given back your bread by weight; and ye have eaten, and are not satisfied.

²⁷ 'And if for this ye hearken not to Me, and have walked with Me in opposition,

²⁸ then I have walked with you in the fury of opposition, and have chastised you, even I, seven times for your sins.

²⁹ 'And ye have eaten the flesh of your sons; even flesh of your daughters ye do eat.

³⁰ And I have destroyed your high places, and cut down your images, and have put your carcases on the carcases of your idols, and My soul hath loathed you;

³¹ and I have made your cities a waste, and have made desolate your sanctuaries, and I smell not at your sweet fragrances;

³² and I have made desolate the land, and your enemies, who are dwelling in it, have been astonished at it.

³³ And you I scatter among nations, and have drawn out after you a sword, and your land hath been a desolation, and your cities are a waste.

³⁴ 'Then doth the land enjoy its sabbaths — all the days of the desolation, and ye in the land of your enemies — then doth the land rest, and hath enjoyed its sabbaths;

³⁵ all the days of the desolation it resteth that which it hath not rested in your sabbaths in your dwelling on it.

³⁶ 'And those who are left of you — I have also brought a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies, and the sound of a leaf driven away hath pursued them, and they have fled — flight from a sword — and they have fallen, and there is none pursuing.

³⁷ And they have stumbled one on another, as from the face of a sword, and there is none pursuing, and ye have no standing before your enemies,

³⁸ and ye have perished among the nations, and the land of your enemies hath consumed you.

³⁹ 'And those who are left of you — they consume away in their iniquity, in the lands of your enemies; and also in the iniquities of their fathers, with them they consume away.

⁴⁰ 'And — they have confessed their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they have trespassed against Me, and also, that they have walked with Me, in opposition,

⁴¹ also I walk to them in opposition, and have brought them into the land of their enemies — or then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and then they accept the punishment of their iniquity, —

⁴² then I have remembered My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham I remember, and the land I remember.

⁴³ 'And — the land is left of them, and doth enjoy its sabbaths, in the desolation without them, and they accept the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because, against My judgments they have kicked, and My statutes hath their soul loathed,
