³³ And if one of the Levites redeem, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.

³⁴ But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.

³⁵ And if thy brother be waxed poor, and his hand fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a sojourner shall he live with thee.

³⁶ Take thou no interest of him or increase, but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.

³⁷ Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor give him thy victuals for increase.

³⁸ I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.

³⁹ And if thy brother be waxed poor with thee, and sell himself unto thee; thou shalt not make him to serve as a bondservant.

⁴⁰ As a hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee; he shall serve with thee unto the year of jubilee:

⁴¹ then shall he go out from thee, he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

⁴² For they are my servants, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.

⁴⁶ And ye shall make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession; of them shall ye take your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel ye shall not rule, one over another, with rigor.

⁴⁷ And if a stranger or sojourner with thee be waxed rich, and thy brother be waxed poor beside him, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner with thee, or to the stock of the stranger’s family;

⁴⁸ after that he is sold he may be redeemed: one of his brethren may redeem him;

⁴⁹ or his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be waxed rich, he may redeem himself.

⁵⁰ And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he sold himself to him unto the year of jubilee: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years; according to the time of a hired servant shall he be with him.

⁵¹ If there be yet many years, according unto them he shall give back the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.

⁵² And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubilee, then he shall reckon with him; according unto his years shall he give back the price of his redemption.

³⁷ Thou shalt not lend thy money to him at interest, and thou shalt not lend thy meat to him to be returned with increase.

³⁸ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Chanaan, so as to be your God.

³⁹ And if thy brother by thee be lowered, and be sold to thee, he shall not serve thee with the servitude of a slave.

⁴⁰ He shall be with thee as a hireling or a sojourner, he shall work for thee till the year of release:

⁴¹ and he shall go out in the release, and his children with him; and he shall go to his family, he shall hasten back to his patrimony.

⁴² Because these are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; such an one shall not be sold as a common servant.

⁴³ Thou shalt not oppress him with labour, and shalt fear the Lord thy God.

⁴⁴ And whatever number of men-servants and maid-servants thou shalt have, thou shalt purchase male and female servants from the nations that are round about thee.

⁴⁶ And ye shall distribute them to your children after you, and they shall be to you permanent possessions for ever: but of your brethren the children of Israel, one shall not oppress his brother in labours.

⁴⁷ And if a stranger or sojourner with thee wax rich, and thy brother in distress be sold to the stranger or the sojourner that is with thee, or to a proselyte by extraction;

⁴⁸ after he is sold to him there shall be redemption for him, one of his brethren shall redeem him.

⁴⁹ A brother of his father, or son of his father's brother shall redeem him; or let one of his near kin of his tribe redeem him, and if he should be rich and redeem himself,

⁵⁰ then shall he calculate with his purchaser from the year that he sold himself to him until the year of release: and the money of his purchase shall be as that of a hireling, he shall be with him from year to year.

⁵¹ And if any have a greater number of years than enough, according to these he shall pay his ransom out of his purchase-money.

⁵² And if but a little time be left of the years to the year of release, then shall he reckon to him according to his years, and shall pay his ransom

³³ And because the houses in their towns are on land that was given to them by other Israelis, that land will become theirs again in the Year of Celebration if they do not buy it back before then.

³⁴ But the pastureland near their towns must not be sold. It must belong to the original owners permanently/forever.

³⁵ If one of your fellow Israelis becomes poor and is unable to buy what he needs IDM, others of you must help him like you would help a foreigner who is living among you DOU temporarily.

³⁶ If you lend money to him, do not charge any kind of interest DOU. Instead, show by what you do that you revere me, your God, and help that man, in order that he will be able to continue to live among you.

³⁷ If you lend him money, do not charge interest; and if you sell food to him, charge him only what you paid for it; do not get a profit from it.

³⁸ Do not forget that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God and to give you the land of Canaan, and I did not charge you for doing that.

³⁹ If one of your fellow Israelis becomes poor and sells himself to you, do not force him to work like a slave.

⁴⁰ Treat him like you treat workers that you hire or like someone who is living on your land temporarily. But he must work for you only until the Year of Celebration.

⁴¹ During that year, you must free him, and he will go back to his family and to the property that his ancestors owned.

⁴² It is as though you Israelis are my slaves/servants, whom I freed from being slaves in Egypt. So none of you should be sold to become slaves.

⁴³ And do not treat the Israelis whom you buy cruelly; instead, revere me, your God.

⁴⁴ If you want to have slaves, you are permitted to buy them from nearby countries.

⁴⁵ You are also permitted to buy some of the foreigners who are living among you, and members of their clans that were born in your country. Then you will own them.

⁴⁶ They will be your slaves for the remaining years of your life, and after you die, it is permitted for your children to own them. But you must not act in brutal ways toward your fellow Israelis.

⁴⁷ If a foreigner who is living among you DOU becomes rich, and if one of your fellow Israelis becomes poor and sells himself to that foreigner or to a member of his clan/family,

⁴⁸ it is permitted for someone to pay for him to be freed. It is permitted for one of his relatives to pay for him to be released:

⁴⁹ An uncle or a cousin or another relative in his clan may pay for him to be released. Or, if he prospers and gets enough money, he is permitted to pay for his own release.

⁵⁰ The man who wants to pay for his own release must count the number of years until the next Year of Celebration. The price he pays to the man who bought him will depend on the pay that would be given to a hired worker for that number of years.

⁵¹ If there are a lot of years that remain until the Year of Celebration, he must pay for his release a larger amount of the money.

⁵² If there are only a few years that remain until the Year of Celebration, he must pay a smaller amount to be released.

⁵³ During the years that he is working for the man who bought him, the man who bought him must treat him like he would treat a hired worker, and all of you must make sure that his owner does not treat him cruelly.

³³ And if any one shall redeem a house of the Levites, then shall their sale of the houses of their possession go out in the release; because the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁴⁷ “‘If an alien or temporary resident with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him has grown poor, and sells himself to the stranger or foreigner living among you, or to a member of the stranger’s family,

⁴⁸ after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him;

⁴⁹ or his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any who is a close relative to him of his family may redeem him; or if he has grown rich, he may redeem himself.

⁴⁴ “‘As for your male and your female slaves, whom you may have from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.

⁴⁵ Moreover, of the children of the aliens who live among you, of them you may buy, and of their families who are with you, which they have conceived in your land; and they will be your property.

³⁶ Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live amongst you.

³⁷ You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.

³⁸ I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.

³⁵ And if your brother becomes poor and is not able to make a living, then you are to keep him with you, helping him as you would a man from another country who is living among you.

³⁶ Take no interest from him, in money or in goods, but have the fear of your God before you, and let your brother make a living among you.

³⁷ Do not take interest on the money which you let him have or on the food which you give him.

³⁸ I am the Lord your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, that I might be your God.

³⁹ And if your brother becomes poor and gives himself to you for money, do not make use of him like a servant who is your property;

⁴⁰ But let him be with you as a servant working for payment, till the year of Jubilee;

⁴¹ Then he will go out from you, he and his children with him, and go back to his family and to the property of his fathers.

⁴² For they are my servants whom I took out from the land of Egypt; they may not become the property of another.

⁴³ Do not be a hard master to him, but have the fear of God before you.

⁴⁴ But you may get servants as property from among the nations round about; from them you may take men-servants and women-servants.

⁴⁵ And in addition, you may get, for money, servants from among the children of other nations who are living with you, and from their families which have come to birth in your land; and these will be your property.

⁴⁶ And they will be your children's heritage after you, to keep as their property; they will be your servants for ever; but you may not be hard masters to your countrymen, the children of Israel.

⁴⁷ And if one from another nation living among you gets wealth, and your countryman, at his side, becomes poor and gives himself for money to the man from another nation or to one of his family;

⁴⁸ After he has given himself he has the right to be made free, for a price, by one of his brothers,

⁴⁹ Or his father's brother, or the son of his father's brother, or any near relation; or if he gets money, he may make himself free.

⁵⁰ And let the years be numbered from the time when he gave himself to his owner till the year of Jubilee, and the price given for him will be in relation to the number of years, on the scale of the payment of a servant.

⁵¹ If there is still a long time, he will give back, on account of it, a part of the price which was given for him.

⁵² And if there is only a short time, he will take account of it with his master, and in relation to the number of years he will give back the price of making him free.

⁵³ And he will be with him as a servant working for payment year by year; his master is not to be cruel to him before your eyes.

³³ And if any one redeem from one of the Levites, then the house that was sold, in the city of his possession, shall go out in the jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.

³⁴ And the field of the suburbs of their cities shall not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.

³⁵ And if thy brother grow poor, and he be fallen into decay beside thee, then thou shalt relieve him, be he stranger or sojourner, that he may live beside thee.

³⁶ Thou shalt take no usury nor increase of him; and thou shalt fear thy God; that thy brother may live beside thee.

³⁷ Thy money shalt thou not give him upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.

³⁸ I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God.

³⁹ And if thy brother grow poor beside thee, and be sold unto thee, thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:

⁴⁵ Moreover of the children of them that dwell as sojourners with you, of them may ye buy, and of their family that is with you, which they beget in your land, and they shall be your possession.

⁴⁶ And ye shall leave them as an inheritance to your children after you, to inherit them as a possession: these may ye make your bondmen for ever; but as for your brethren, the children of Israel, ye shall not rule over one another with rigour.

⁴⁷ And if a stranger or sojourner become wealthy beside thee, and thy brother beside him grow poor, and sell himself unto the stranger, who is settled by thee, or to a scion of the stranger's family,

⁴⁸ after that he is sold there shall be right of redemption for him; one of his brethren may redeem him.

⁴⁹ Either his uncle or his uncle's son may redeem him, or one of his next relations of his family may redeem him; or if his means be sufficient, he may redeem himself.

⁵⁰ And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubilee; and the price of his sale shall be according to the number of the years, according to the days of a hired servant shall he be with him.

⁵¹ If there are yet many years, according unto them shall he return his redemption money out of the money that he was bought for;

⁵² and if there remain but few years unto the year of jubilee, then he shall reckon with him; according unto his remaining years of service shall he give him back his redemption money.

⁵³ As a hired servant shall he be with him year by year; his master shall not rule with rigour over him before thine eyes.

³³ If they be not redeemed, in the jubilee they shall all return to the owners, because the houses of the cities of the Levites are for their possessions among the children of Israel.

³⁴ But let not their suburbs be sold, because it is a perpetual possession.

³⁵ If thy brother be impoverished, and weak of hand, and thou receive him as a stranger and sojourner, and he live with thee,

³⁶ Take not usury of him nor more than thou gavest: fear thy God, that thy brother may live with thee.

³⁷ Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor exact of him any increase of fruits.

³⁸ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that I might give you the land of Chanaan, and might be your God.

³⁹ If thy brother constrained by poverty, sell himself to thee, thou shalt not oppress him with the service of bondservants:

⁴⁰ But he shall be as a hireling, and a sojourner: he shall work with thee until the year of the jubilee,

⁴¹ And afterwards he shall go out with his children, and shall return to his kindred and to the possession of his fathers,

⁴² For they are my servants, and I brought them out of the land of Egypt: let them not be sold as bondmen:

⁴³ Afflict him not by might, but fear thy God.

⁴⁴ Let your bondmen, and your bondwomen, be of the nations that are round about you.

⁴⁵ And of the strangers that sojourn among you, or that were born of them in your land, these you shall have for servants:

⁴⁶ And by right of inheritance shall leave them to your posterity, and shall possess them for ever. But oppress not your brethren the children of Israel by might.

⁴⁷ If the hand of a stranger or a sojourner grow strong among you, and thy brother being impoverished sell himself to him, or to any of his race:

⁴⁸ After the sale he may be redeemed. He that will of his brethren shall redeem him:

⁴⁹ Either his uncle, or his uncle’s son, or his kinsman, by blood, or by affinity. But if he himself be able also, he shall redeem himself,

⁵⁰ Counting only the years from the time of his selling unto the year of the jubilee: and counting the money that he was sold for, according to the number of the years and the reckoning of a hired servant,

⁵¹ If there be many years that remain until the jubilee, according to them shall he also repay the price.

⁵² If few, he shall make the reckoning with him according to the number of the years, and shall repay to the buyer of what remaineth of the years,

⁵³ His wages being allowed for which he served before: he shall not afflict him violently in thy sight.

³³ Whatever the Levites own can be bought back, even houses sold in their towns, and must be returned in the Jubilee. That's because the houses in the towns of the Levites are what they were given to own as their share among the Israelites.

³⁴ However, the fields surrounding their towns must not be sold because they belong to the Levites permanently.

³⁵ If any of your people become poor and can't survive, you must help them in the same way you would help a foreigner or a stranger, so that they can go on living in your neighborhood.

³⁶ Don't make them pay you any interest or demand more than they borrowed, but respect your God so that they can remain living in your area.

³⁷ Don't lend them silver with interest or sell them food at an inflated price.

³⁸ Remember, I am the Lord your God who led you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

³⁹ If any of your people become poor and have to sell themselves to work for you, don't force them to work as a slave.

⁴⁰ Have them live with you like a paid worker who is staying with you for a while. They are to work for you until the Jubilee Year.

⁴¹ Then they and their children must be freed, and they can go back to their family and to their family's property.

⁴² Israelites are not to be sold as slaves because they belong to me as my slaves—I led them out of Egypt.

⁴³ Don't treat them with brutality. Have respect for your God.

⁴⁴ Buy your male and female slaves from the surrounding nations.

⁴⁵ You can also buy them from foreigners who have come to live among you, or from their descendants born in your land. You can treat them as your property.

⁴⁶ You can pass them on to your children to inherit as property after you die. You can make them slaves for life, but you must not brutally treat any of your own people, the Israelites, as a slave.

⁴⁷ If a foreigner among you becomes successful, and one of your people living nearby becomes poor and sells themselves to the foreigner or to a member of the foreigner's family,

⁴⁸ they still have the right of being bought back after the sale. A member of their family can buy them back—

⁴⁹ an uncle or cousin or any close relative from their family can buy them back. If they become successful, they can buy themselves back.

⁵⁰ The person concerned and their buyer will work out the time from the year of the sale up to the Jubilee Year. The price will depend on the number of years, calculated using the daily rate for a paid worker.

⁵¹ If there are many years left, they must pay a larger percentage of the purchase price.

⁵² If there are only a few years remaining before the Jubilee Year, then they only have to pay a percentage depending on the number of years still left.

⁵³ They are to live with their foreign owner just like a paid worker, hired from year to year, but see to it that the owner doesn't treat him brutally.

³³ And if a man purchase of the Leuites, the house that was solde, and the citie of their possession shall goe out in the Iubile: for the houses of the cities of the Leuites are their possession among the children of Israel.

³⁴ But the fielde of the suburbes of their cities, shall not be solde: for it is their perpetuall possession.

³⁵ Moreouer, if thy brother be impouerished, and fallen in decay with thee, thou shalt relieue him, and as a stranger and soiourner, so shall he liue with thee.

³⁹ If thy brother also that dwelleth by thee, be impouerished, and be sold vnto thee, thou shalt not compel him to serue as a bond seruant,

⁴⁰ But as an hired seruant, and as a soiourner he shalbe with thee: he shall serue thee vnto the yeere of the Iubile.

⁴¹ Then shall he depart from thee, both hee, and his children with him, and shall returne vnto his familie, and vnto the possession of his fathers shall he returne:

⁴² For they are my seruants, whom I brought out of the lande of Egypt: they shall not be solde as bondmen are solde.

⁴³ Thou shalt not rule ouer him cruelly, but shalt feare thy God.

⁴⁴ Thy bond seruant also, and thy bond maid, which thou shalt haue, shalbe of the heathen that are rounde about you: of them shall ye bye seruants and maydes.

⁴⁵ And moreouer of the children of the stragers, that are soiourners among you, of them shall ye bye, and of their families that are with you, which they begate in your lande: these shall be your possession.

⁴⁶ So ye shall take them as inheritance for your children after you, to possesse them by inheritance, ye shall vse their labours for euer: but ouer your brethren the children of Israel ye shall not rule one ouer another with crueltie.

⁴⁷ If a soiourner or a stranger dwelling by thee get riches, and thy brother by him be impouerished, and sell him selfe vnto the stranger or soiourner dwelling by thee, or to the stocke of the strangers familie,

⁴⁸ After that he is solde, he may be bought out: one of his brethren may bye him out,

⁴⁹ Or his vncle, or his vncles sonne may bye him out, or any of the kindred of his flesh among his familie, may redeeme him: either if he can get so much, he may bye him selfe out.

⁵⁰ Then he shall recken with his byer from the yeere that he was solde to him, vnto the yere of Iubile: and the money of his sale shalbe according to the number of yeeres: according to the time of an hyred seruant shall he be with him.

⁵¹ If there be many yeeres behind, according to them he shall giue againe for his deliuerance, of the money that he was bought for.

⁵² If there remaine but fewe yeeres vnto the yeere of Iubile, then he shall count with him, and according to his yeeres giue againe for his redemption.

³⁵ And if thy brother who is with thee become poor, and he fail in resources with thee, thou shalt help him as a stranger and a sojourner, and thy brother shall live with thee.

³⁶ Thou shalt not receive from him interest, nor increase: and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the Lord: and thy brother shall live with thee.

³⁷ Thou shalt not lend thy money to him at interest, and thou shalt not lend thy meat to him to be returned with increase.

³⁸ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, so as to be your God.

³⁹ And if thy brother by thee be lowered, and be sold to thee, he shall not serve thee with the servitude of a slave.

⁴⁰ He shall be with thee as a hireling or a sojourner, he shall work for thee till the year of release:

⁴¹ and he shall go out in the release, and his children with him; and he shall go to his family, he shall hasten back to his patrimony.

⁴² Because these are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; such a one shall not be sold as a common servant.

⁴⁷ And if a stranger or sojourner with thee wax rich, and thy brother in distress be sold to the stranger or the sojourner that is with thee, or to a proselyte by extraction;

⁴⁸ after he is sold to him there shall be redemption for him, one of his brethren shall redeem him.

⁴⁹ A brother of his father, or son of his father’s brother shall redeem him; or let one of his near kin of his tribe redeem him, and if he should be rich and redeem himself,

⁵⁰ then shall he calculate with his purchaser from the year that he sold himself to him until the year of release: and the money of his purchase shall be as that of a hireling, he shall be with him from year to year.

⁵¹ And if any have a greater number of years than enough, according to these he shall pay his ransom out of his purchase money.

⁵² And if but a little time be left of the years to the year of release, then shall he reckon to him according to his years, and shall pay his ransom

⁵³ as a hireling; he shall be with him from year to year; thou shalt not oppress him with labor before thee.

³³ And (so of him) who purchaseth of the Levites, the purchased house in the city of their possession shall go out at the Jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their inheritance among the sons of Israel.

³⁴ But a field in the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is an everlasting possession for them.

³⁵ If your fellow countryman becomes poor, so that he can no longer provide for himself, then you must help him as you would help a foreigner or anyone else living as an outsider among you.

³⁶ Do not charge him interest or try to profit from him in any way, but honor your God so that your brother may keep living with you.

³⁷ You must not give him a loan of money and charge interest, nor sell him your food to earn a profit.

³⁸ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, in order that I might give you the land of Canaan, and that I might be your God.

³⁹ If your fellow countryman has become poor and sells himself to you, you must not make him work like a slave.

⁴⁰ Treat him as a hired servant. He must be like someone living temporarily with you. He will serve with you until the year of Jubilee.

⁴¹ Then he will go away from you, he and his children with him, and he will return to his own family and to his fathers' property.

⁴² For they are my servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. They will not be sold as slaves.

⁴³ You must not rule over them harshly, but you must honor your God.

⁴⁴ As for your male and female slaves, whom you can obtain from the nations who live around you, you may buy slaves from them.

⁴⁵ You may also buy slaves from the foreigners who are living among you, that is, from their families who are with you, children who have been born in your land. They may become your property.

⁴⁶ You may provide such slaves as an inheritance for your children after you, to hold as property, and make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your brothers among the people of Israel with harshness.

⁴⁷ If a foreigner or someone living temporarily with you has become wealthy, and if one of your fellow Israelites has become poor and sells himself to that foreigner, or to someone in a foreigner's family,

⁴⁸ after your fellow Israelite has been bought, he may be bought back. Someone in his family may redeem him.

⁴⁹ It might be the person's uncle, or his uncle's son, who redeems him, or anyone who is his close relative from his family. Or, if he has become prosperous, he may redeem himself.

⁵⁰ He must bargain with the man who bought him; they must count the years from the year he sold himself to his purchaser until the year of Jubilee. The price of his redemption must be figured in keeping with the rate paid to a hired servant, for the number of years he might continue to work for the one who bought him.

⁵¹ If there are still many years until the year of Jubilee, he must pay back as the price for his redemption an amount of money that is in proportion to the number of those years.

⁵² If there are only a few years to the year of Jubilee, then he must bargain with his purchaser to reflect the number of years left before the year of Jubilee, and he must pay for his redemption in keeping with the number of years.

⁵³ He is to be treated like a man hired year by year. You must make sure he is not treated with harshness.

³³ The Levites may redeem the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, and it shall be released in the Jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.

³⁵ If thy brother is made poor, and feeble in power, and thou receivest him as a comeling, and a pilgrim, and he liveth with thee,

⁴¹ and afterward he shall go out with his free children, and he shall turn again to his kindred, and to the possession of his fathers.

⁴² For they be my servants, and I led them out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold by the condition of servants;

⁴³ torment thou not them by thy power, but dread thou thy Lord.

⁴⁴ A servant and handmaid be to you of the nations that be in your compass, and of the comelings the which be pilgrims with you,

⁴⁵ either they that be born of comelings in your land; ye shall have these servants, and by right of heritage ye shall leave them to your after-comers, and ye shall wield them without end;

⁴⁶ soothly oppress ye not by power your brethren, the sons of Israel.

⁴⁷ If the hand of a comeling or of a pilgrim waxeth strong at you, and thy brother is made poor, and selleth himself to that comeling, either to any of his kin,

⁴⁸ he may be again-bought after the selling; he that will of his brethren, again-buy him;

⁴⁹ both his father’s brother, and the son of his father’s brother, and his kins-man, and his ally. Else if also he shall be able, he shall again-buy himself,

⁵⁰ while the years be reckoned only from the time of his selling till into the year of jubilee; and while the money, for which he was sold, is reckoned by the number of years, and while the hire of an hired man is reckoned.

⁵¹ If more years be that dwell till to the jubilee, by these years he shall yield also the price;

⁵² if few years be, he shall set reckoning with him by the number of these years; and he shall yield to the buyer that that is left of the years,

⁵³ while those years, in which he served before, be reckoned for hires; a stranger shall not torment an home-born man violently in thy sight.

³³ if those be not again-bought, those shall turn again in the jubilee to the lords (thereof); for the houses of the cities of deacons be for (their) possessions (forevermore) among the sons of Israel; (and even if they be not bought back, they shall still return to their original owners in the Jubilee Year; for the houses in the Levite cities shall be their possessions among the Israelites forevermore;)

³⁴ forsooth the suburbs of them shall not be sold, for it is (their) everlasting possession.

³⁵ If thy brother is made poor, and feeble in power, and thou receivest him as a comeling, and a pilgrim, (or and thou receivest him like a newcomer, or like a foreigner), and he liveth with thee,

³⁶ take thou not usuries of him, neither more than thou hast given; dread thou thy God, that thy brother may live with thee. (receive thou not usury, or interest, from him, nor any more than thou hast given to him; fear thou thy God, and let thy brother live with thee.)

³⁷ Thou shalt not give to him thy money (in)to usury (or Thou shalt not charge him interest for thy money), and thou shalt not ask over that that thou lendest, (for) increases of (thy) fruits;

³⁸ I am your Lord God, that led you out of the land of Egypt, that I should give to you the land of Canaan, and that I should be your God. (I am the Lord your God, who led you out of the land of Egypt, so that I could give you the land of Canaan, and so that I would become your God.)

³⁹ If thy brother compelled by poverty selleth himself to thee, thou shalt not oppress him by servage of servants (or thou shalt not make him thy slave),

⁴⁰ but he shall be as an hired man and (as) a tenant; till to the year of jubilee he shall work with thee (or he shall work for thee until the Jubilee Year),

⁴¹ and afterward he shall go out with his free children, and he shall turn again to his kindred, and to the possession of his fathers. (and then he shall go out free with his children, and he shall return to his family, and to his inheritance from his fathers.)

⁴² For they be my servants, and I led them out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold by the condition of servants; (For they be my slaves, and I led them out of Egypt; and they shall not be sold into human slavery;)

⁴³ torment thou not them by thy power, but dread thou thy Lord. (so do not thou torment him with thy power, but rather, fear thou thy God.)

⁴⁴ A servant and (a) handmaid be to you of the nations that be in your compass, and of the comelings the which be pilgrims with you, (For your slaves and your slave-girls, buy thou them from the nations that be all around you, and from the newcomers who be foreigners, or strangers, among you,)

⁴⁵ either they that be born of comelings in your land; ye shall have these (as) servants, and by right of heritage ye shall leave them to your after-comers, and ye shall wield them without end; (or they who be born to newcomers in your land; ye shall have them as your slaves, and by right of inheritance ye shall leave them to your after-comers, and so ye shall own them forever;)

⁴⁶ soothly oppress ye not by power your brethren, the sons of Israel. (but with your power, do not ye oppress your own brothers, the Israelites.)

⁴⁷ If the hand of a comeling or of a pilgrim waxeth strong at you, and thy brother is made poor, and selleth himself to that comeling, either to any of his kin, (And if a newcomer, or a foreigner who liveth with you, groweth rich, and thy brother is made poor, and selleth himself to that newcomer, or to any of his kin,)

⁴⁸ he may be again-bought after the selling; he that will of his brethren, again-buy him; (he can be bought back after that he is sold; yea, he of his brothers who will do so, should buy him back;)

⁴⁹ both his father’s brother, and the son of his father’s brother, and his kinsman, and his ally. Else if also he shall be able, he shall again-buy himself, (or his father’s brother, or the son of his father’s brother, or another of his kin, should buy him back. Or if he is able, he should buy himself back,)

⁵⁰ while the years be reckoned only from the time of his (original) selling till into the year of jubilee; and while the money, for which he was sold, is reckoned by the number of years, and while the hire of an hired man is reckoned. (while the years be reckoned from the time when he first sold himself until the Jubilee Year; and while the price, for which he can be bought back, be reckoned by the wages for a hired man.)

⁵¹ If more years be that dwell till to the jubilee, by these years he shall yield also the price; (If there be more years that remain until the Jubilee Year, he shall pay the value of those years;)

⁵² if few years be (and even if there be only a few years left), he shall (still) set reckoning with him by the number of the(se) years; and (so) he shall yield (money) to the buyer (for) that that is left of the years,

⁵³ while those years, in which he served before, be reckoned for hires; (and) a stranger shall not torment an home-born man violently in thy sight. (while those years, in which he served before, shall be reckoned as for a hired man; never let a foreigner, or a stranger, violently torment a man born in the land before thee.)

³³ tho schulen turne ayen in the iubilee `to the lordis; for the `howsis of the citees of dekenes ben for possessiouns among the sones of Israel;

³⁴ forsothe the suburbabis of hem schulen not be seeld, for it is euerlastynge possessioun.

³⁵ If thi brother is maad pore, and feble in power, and thou resseyuest hym as a comelyng and pilgrym, and he lyueth with thee,

³⁶ take thou not vsuris of hym, nether more than thou hast youe; drede thou thi God, that thi brothir mai lyue anentis thee.

³⁷ Thou schalt not yyue to hym thi money to vsure, and thou schalt not axe ouer `aboundaunce, ether encrees ouer of fruytis;

³⁸ Y am youre Lord God, that ladde you out of the lond of Egipt, that Y schulde yyue to you the lond of Canaan, and that Y schulde be youre God.

³⁹ If thi brother compellid bi pouert sillith hym silf to thee, thou schalt not oppresse hym bi seruage of seruauntis,

⁴⁰ but he schal be as an hirid man and tenaunt; `til to the yeer of iubilee he schal worche at thee,

⁴¹ and aftirward he schal go out with his fre children, and he schal turne ayen to the kynrede, and to `the possessioun of his fadris.

⁴² For thei ben my seruauntis, and Y ledde hem out of the lond of Egipt; thei schulen not be seeld bi the condicioun of seruauntis;

⁴³ turmente thou not hem bi thi power, but drede thou thi Lord.

⁴⁴ A seruaunt and handmaide be to you of naciouns that ben in youre cumpas,

⁴⁵ and of comelyngis that ben pilgrimys at you, ether thei that ben borun of hem in youre lond; ye schulen haue these seruauntis,

⁴⁶ and bi riyt of eritage ye schulen `sende ouer to aftir comeris, and ye schulen welde with outen ende; sothely oppresse ye not bi power youre britheren, the sones of Israel.

⁴⁷ If the hond of a comelyng and of a pilgrim wexith strong at you, and thi brother is maad pore, and sillith hym silf to hym,

⁴⁸ ether to ony of his kyn, he may be ayenbouyt aftir the sillyng; he that wole of hise britheren, ayenbie hym; bothe `the brother of fadir,

⁴⁹ and the sone of `the fadris brother, and kynesman, and alye. Ellis if also he schal mow, he schal ayenbie hym silf,

⁵⁰ while the yeeris ben rykenid oneli fro the tyme of his sillyng `til in to the yeer of iubylee; and while the money, for which he was seeld, is rikenyd bi the noumbre of yeeris, and while the hire of an hirid man is rikenyd.

⁵¹ If mo yeeris ben that dwellen `til to the iubilee, bi these yeeris he schal yelde also the prijs; if fewe yeeris ben,

⁵² he schal sette rikenyng with hym bi the noumbre of yeeris;

⁵³ and he schal yeelde to the biere that that is residue of yeeris, while tho yeeris, bi whiche he seruyde bifore, ben rikenyd for hiris; he schal not turmente `that Ebreu violentli in thi siyt.

³³ as to him who redeemeth from the Levites, both the sale of a house and the city of his possession have gone out in the jubilee, for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession in the midst of the sons of Israel.

³⁴ And a field, a suburb of their cities, is not sold; for a possession age-during it is to them.

³⁵ 'And when thy brother is become poor, and his hand hath failed with thee, then thou hast kept hold on him, sojourner and settler, and he hath lived with thee;

³⁶ thou takest no usury from him, or increase; and thou hast been afraid of thy God; and thy brother hath lived with thee;

³⁷ thy money thou givest not to him in usury, and for increase thou givest not thy food;

³⁸ I am Jehovah your God, who hath brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give to you the land of Canaan, to become your God.

³⁹ 'And when thy brother becometh poor with thee, and he hath been sold to thee, thou dost not lay on him servile service;

⁴⁰ as an hireling, as a settler, he is with thee, till the year of the jubilee he doth serve with thee, —

⁴¹ then he hath gone out from thee, he and his sons with him, and hath turned back unto his family; even unto the possession of his fathers he doth turn back.

⁴² 'For they are My servants, whom I have brought out from the land of Egypt: they are not sold with the sale of a servant;

⁴³ thou rulest not over him with rigour, and thou hast been afraid of thy God.

⁴⁴ 'And thy man-servant and thy handmaid whom thou hast are of the nations who are round about you; of them ye buy man-servant and handmaid,

⁴⁵ and also of the sons of the settlers who are sojourning with you, of them ye buy, and of their families who are with you, which they have begotten in your land, and they have been to you for a possession;

⁴⁶ and ye have taken them for inheritance to your sons after you, to occupy for a possession; to the age ye lay service upon them, but upon your brethren, the sons of Israel, one with another, thou dost not rule over him with rigour.

⁴⁷ 'And when the hand of a sojourner or settler with thee attaineth riches, and thy brother with him hath become poor, and he hath been sold to a sojourner, a settler with thee, or to the root of the family of a sojourner,

⁴⁸ after he hath been sold, there is a right of redemption to him; one of his brethren doth redeem him,

⁴⁹ or his uncle, or a son of his uncle, doth redeem him, or any of the relations of his flesh, of his family, doth redeem him, or — his own hand hath attained — then he hath been redeemed.

⁵⁰ 'And he hath reckoned with his buyer from the year of his being sold to him till the year of jubilee, and the money of his sale hath been by the number of years; as the days of an hireling it is with him.

⁵¹ 'If yet many years, according to them he giveth back his redemption money, from the money of his purchase.

⁵² 'And if few are left of the years till the year of jubilee, then he hath reckoned with him, according to his years he doth give back his redemption money;

⁵³ as an hireling, year by year, he is with him, and he doth not rule him with rigour before thine eyes.
