Leviticus 20:4-23 in English

⁴ And if the people of the land do at all hide their eyes from that man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and put him not to death;

⁵ then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that play the harlot after him, to play the harlot with Molech, from among their people.

⁶ And the soul that turneth unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto the wizards, to play the harlot after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

⁷ Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am Jehovah your God.

⁸ And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am Jehovah who sanctifieth you.

⁹ For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall surely be put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

¹⁰ And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

¹¹ And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

¹² And if a man lie with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

¹³ And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

¹⁴ And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

¹⁵ And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.

¹⁶ And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

¹⁷ And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a shameful thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of the children of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

¹⁸ And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath made naked her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

¹⁹ And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister, nor of thy father’s sister; for he hath made naked his near kin: they shall bear their iniquity.

²⁰ And if a man shall lie with his uncle’s wife, he hath uncovered his uncle’s nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

²¹ And if a man shall take his brother’s wife, it is impurity: he hath uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.

²² Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all mine ordinances, and do them; that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, vomit you not out.

²³ And ye shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

⁴ And if the natives of the land should in anywise overlook that man in giving of his seed to Moloch, so as not to put him to death;

⁵ then will I set my face against that man and his family, and I will destroy him, and all who have been of one mind with him, so that he should go a whoring to the princes, from their people.

⁶ And the soul that shall follow those who have in them divining spirits, or enchanters, so as to go a whoring after them; I will set my face against that soul, and will destroy it from among its people.

⁷ And ye shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

⁸ And ye shall observe my ordinances, and do them: I am the Lord that sanctifies you.

⁹ Every man who shall speak evil of his father or of his mother, let him die the death; has he spoken evil of his father or his mother? he shall be guilty.

¹⁰ Whatever man shall commit adultery with the wife of a man, or whoever shall commit adultery with the wife of his neighbour, let them die the death, the adulterer and the adulteress.

¹¹ And if any one should lie with his father's wife, he has uncovered his father's nakedness: let them both die the death, they are guilty.

¹² And if any one should lie with his daughter-in-law, let them both be put to death; for they have wrought impiety, they are guilty.

¹³ And whoever shall lie with a male as with a woman, they have both wrought abomination; let them die the death, they are guilty.

¹⁴ Whosoever shall take a woman and her mother, it is iniquity: they shall burn him and them with fire; so there shall not be iniquity among you.

¹⁵ And whosoever shall lie with a beast, let him die the death; and ye shall kill the beast.

¹⁶ And whatever woman shall approach any beast, so as to have connexion with it, ye shall kill the woman and the beast: let them die the death, they are guilty.

¹⁷ Whosoever shall take his sister by his father or by his mother, and shall see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness, it is a reproach: they shall be destroyed before the children of their family; he has uncovered his sister's nakedness, they shall bear their sin.

¹⁸ And whatever man shall lie with a woman that is set apart for a flux, and shall uncover her nakedness, he has uncovered her fountain, and she has uncovered the flux of her blood: they shall both be destroyed from among their generation.

¹⁹ And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister, or of the sister of thy mother; for that man has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin: they shall bear their iniquity.

⁴ If the people of that man's town ignore it when he kills one of his children to offer him as a sacrifice to Molech, and if they do not execute that person,

⁵ I myself will punish that person and his family, and I will command that he no longer be able to associate with my people. And I will do the same thing to any others who do the same thing that he did to worship Molech.

⁶ I will reject IDM those who go to those who ◄consult/talk with► the spirits of dead people and fortune-tellers to seek advice from them. I will command that they no longer be allowed to associate with my people.

⁷ Set yourselves apart and be holy, because I, Yahweh your God, am holy, and I want you to be like me.

⁸ Obey carefully DOU all my laws. I am Yahweh, the one will cause you to be holy.

⁹ If anyone curses his father or his mother, he must be executed. He himself will be responsible for his own death MTY.

¹⁰ If a man commits adultery with some other man's wife, both of them, the man and the woman, must be executed.

¹¹ If a man has sex with EUP one of his father's wives, he has disgraced his father. So both that man and that woman must be executed, they will be responsible for their own deaths MTY.

¹² If a man has sex with EUP his daughter-in-law, both of them must be executed. What they have done is very perverse; and they will be responsible for their own deaths MTY.

¹³ If two men have sex together, they have done something detestable. They must both be executed, they will be responsible for their own deaths MTY.

¹⁴ If a man marries both a woman and her mother, that is a wicked thing. All three of them must be burned to death, in order that such a wicked practice will not continue to be done among you.

¹⁵ If a man has sex with an animal, he must be executed, and you must also kill that animal.

¹⁶ Similarly, if a woman has sex with an animal, both the woman and that animal must be killed DOU; they are responsible for their own deaths MTY.

¹⁷ If a man marries his sister, the daughter of either his mother or his father, and they have sex together, that is disgraceful. They must not be allowed to continue to associate with my people. And because he has disgraced his sister, he must be punished.

¹⁸ If a man has sex with EUP, DOU a woman during her monthly menstrual period, they have both revealed why she was bleeding, so both of them must not be allowed to associate with my people anymore.

¹⁹ Do not have sex with the sister of either your father or your mother, because that would be disgracing someone who is a close relative. And you and the woman must both be punished.

²⁰ If a man has sex EUP with his aunt, he has dishonored his uncle. I will punish both of them by causing them to die without having any children.

²¹ If a man marries his brother's wife while his brother is still living, that is disgraceful. He has dishonored his brother; and they both will die without having any children.

²² Obey all my laws/decrees DOU carefully, in order that you will not be forced to leave MET the land to which I am bringing you.

²³ Do not imitate/adopt the customs of the people of the land from which I will expel them as you advance. I hated them because they did all those things.

²⁰ If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness. They shall bear their sin. They shall die childless.

⁵ then I will set my face against that man and against his family, and will cut him off, and all who play the prostitute after him to play the prostitute with Molech, from amongst their people.

¹⁴ And if a man takes as wife a woman and her mother, it is an act of shame; let them be burned with fire, all three of them, so that there may be no shame among you.

¹⁵ And if a man has sex relations with a beast, let him be put to death, and let the beast be put to destruction.

¹⁶ And if a woman goes near a beast and has sex relations with it, you will put an end to the woman and the beast: their blood will be on them.

¹⁷ And if a man takes his sister, daughter of his father or his mother, and has sex relations with her and she with him, it is an act of shame: they are to be cut off before the children of their people; he has had sex relations with his sister, and his sin will be on him.

¹⁸ And if a man has sex relations with a woman at the time when she is unwell, he has seen her fountain and she has let the fountain of her blood be uncovered, and the two of them are to be cut off from among their people.

¹⁹ And you may not have sex connection with your mother's sister or your father's sister, for they are his near relations: their sin will be on them.

²⁰ And if a man has sex relations with the wife of his father's brother, he has put shame on his father's brother: their sin will be on them; till the day of their death they will have no children.

²¹ And if a man takes his brother's wife, it is an unclean act; he has put shame on his brother; they will have no children.

²² So then, keep my rules and my decisions and do them, so that the land which I am giving you as your resting-place may not violently send you out again.

²³ And do not keep the rules of the nations which I am driving out before you; for they did all these things, and for that reason my soul was turned against them.

⁴ And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from that man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, that they kill him not,

⁵ then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.

¹⁸ If any man lie with a woman in her flowers, and uncover her nakedness, and she open the fountain of her blood, both shall be destroyed out of the midst of their people.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy aunt by thy mother, and of thy aunt by thy father: he that doth this, hath uncovered the shame of his own flesh, both shall bear their iniquity.

²⁰ If any mall lie with the wife of his uncle by the father, or of his uncle by the mother, and uncover the shame of his near akin, both shall bear their sin: they shall die without children.

⁴ If the community decides to look the other way and not execute those who sacrifice their children to Molech, then I will take action against them myself.

⁵ I will disown them and their family, and expel them from their people—and not just them, but everyone who follows them in spiritually prostituting themselves with Molech.

⁶ I will also disown and expel from their people anyone who goes to mediums or spiritists and in this way commits spiritual prostitution with them.

⁷ So dedicate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.

⁸ Keep my rules and put them into practice. I am the Lord who makes you holy.

⁹ Anyone who curses their father or mother must be executed. They have cursed their father or mother; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.

¹⁰ Any man who commits adultery with someone else's wife must be executed, as well as the woman.

¹¹ A man who has sex with his father's wife has brought shame on his father. Both the man and the woman must be executed. Both must surely be put to death; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.

¹² A man who has sex with his daughter-in-law must be executed, as well as the woman. They have done something perverse; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.

¹³ Men who have sex with other men as with a woman have done something disgusting. They must be executed; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.

¹⁷ A man who marries his sister, whether she's his father's daughter or his mother's daughter, and they have sex, has done something shameful. They must be expelled from their people in front of everybody. He has brought shame on his sister; he bears the responsibility for his punishment.

¹⁸ A man who has sex with a woman having her period he has exposed where her blood flow comes from, and she has too. They must both be expelled from their people.

¹⁹ Don't have sex with your aunt, whether on your father or your mother's side, because it brings shame on your own family. Both will bear responsibility for their sin.

²⁰ A man who has sex with his uncle's wife brings shame on his uncle. They will bear responsibility for their sin; they shall die without having children.

²¹ A man who marries his brother's wife does something that is unclean. He has brought shame on his brother; the couple will have no children.

²² So keep all my rules and regulations, so that the land where I'm taking you to live won't vomit you out.

²³ Don't follow the practices of the nations I'm expelling for you. I detested them because they did all these evil things.

⁴ And if the people of the lande hide their eyes, and winke at that man when he giueth his children vnto Molech, and kill him not,

⁵ Then will I set my face against that man, and against his familie, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him to comit whoredome with Molech, from among their people.

⁶ If any turne after such as worke with spirits, and after soothsayers, to go a whoring after them, then will I set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people.

¹⁸ If a man sleeps with a woman during her menstrual period and has slept with her, he has uncovered the flow of her blood, the source of her blood. Both the man and woman must be cut off from among their people.

¹⁹ You must not sleep with your mother's sister, or with your father's sister, because you would disgrace your close relative. You must carry your own guilt.

²⁰ If a man sleeps with his aunt, he has dishonored his uncle. They will bear responsibility for their sin, and they will die without children.

²¹ If a man marries his brother's wife while his brother is still living, that is disgraceful. He has dishonored his brother, and I will take away from their children any property they may have inherited from their parents.

¹⁹ “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, nor of your father’s sister, for he has made his close relative naked. They shall bear their iniquity.

²⁰ If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness. They shall bear their sin. They shall die childless.

²¹ “‘If a man takes his brother’s wife, it is an impurity. He has uncovered his brother’s nakedness. They shall be childless.

²² “‘You shall therefore keep all my statutes and all my ordinances, and do them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out.

²³ You shall not walk in the customs of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

⁴ That if the people of the land is negligent, and little chargeth or careth for my behest, and suffereth the man that gave of his seed to Moloch, neither will slay him,

⁵ I shall set my face on that man, and on his kindred, and I shall cut him down, and all that consented to him, that they should do fornication, that is, idolatry, with Moloch, from the midst of their people.

⁶ If a man boweth to astronomers, and to false diviners, and doeth fornication with them, I shall set my face against him, and I shall slay him from the midst of his people.

⁷ Be ye hallowed, and be ye holy, for I am holy, your Lord God.

⁸ Keep ye my behests, and do ye those or them, for I am the Lord that halloweth you.

⁹ Therefore he that curseth his father, either mother, die he by death; if a man curseth his father and mother, his blood be on him.

¹⁰ If a man doeth lechery with another man’s wife, and doeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, both the adulterer and the adulteress die they by death.

¹¹ If a man sleepeth with his step-dame, and showeth his father’s shame, both they die by death; their blood be on them.

¹² If any man sleepeth with his son’s wife, ever either die, for they have wrought great sin; their blood be on them.

¹³ If a man sleepeth with a man, by lechery of a woman, ever either hath wrought unleaveful thing, die they by death; their blood be on them.

¹⁴ He that weddeth over his wife her mother, hath wrought great sin; he shall be burnt quick with them, and so great unleaveful doing shall not dwell in the midst of you.

¹⁵ He that doeth lechery with a great beast, or with a little, die he by death, also slay ye the beast.

¹⁶ A woman that lieth under any beast, be she slain together with it; their blood be on them.

¹⁷ He that taketh his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and seeth her filthhood, and she seeth the shame of her brother, they have wrought an unleaveful thing, both shall be slain in the sight of their people; for they showed together their filthhood, and they shall bear together their wickedness.

¹⁸ If a man doeth fleshly knowing with a woman in the flowing of blood of the month, and showeth her filthhood, and she openeth the well of her blood, both they shall be slain from the midst of their people.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not discover the filthhood of thy mother’s sister, and of thy father’s sister; he, that doeth this, shall make naked the shame of his flesh, and both they shall bear their wickedness.

²⁰ He that doeth fleshly knowing with the wife of his father’s brother, either of his mother’s brother, and showeth the filthhood of his kin, both they shall bear their sin, and they shall die without free children.

²¹ He that weddeth his brother’s wife, doeth an unleaveful thing; he showed his brother’s filthhood, and he shall be without free children.

²² Keep ye my laws and my dooms, and do ye those or them, lest the land, into which ye shall enter and dwell in, cast out vilely also you.

²³ Do not ye go in the lawful things, that is, in worshipping and in the manner of living of them, of the nations, which I shall cast out before you, for they did all these things, and I had abomination of them.

(If a man sleepeth with a man, like in fleshly coupling with a woman, they both have done an unlawful thing, and they both shall be put to death; their blood be on them.)

¹⁴ He that weddeth over his wife her mother, hath wrought great sin; he shall be burnt quick with them, and so great unleaveful doing shall not dwell in the midst of you. (He who taketh both his wife and her mother to bed, hath done a great sin; he shall be burned alive with them, and so a great unlawful doing shall not remain in the midst of you.)

⁴ That if the puple of the lond is necgligent, and as litil chargynge myn heeste, and suffrith the man that yaf of his seed to Moloch, nether wole sle hym, Y schal sette my face on that man,

⁵ and his kynrede, and Y schal kitte doun hym, and alle that consentiden to him, that thei schulden do fornycacioun with Moloch, fro the myddis of her puple.

¹⁰ If a man doith leccherie with `the wijf of another man, and doith auowtrie with `the wijf of his neiybore, bothe auowter and auowtresse die bi deeth.

¹¹ If a man slepith with hys stepdamme, and schewith `the schenschip of his fadir, bothe die bi deeth; her blood be on hem.

¹² If ony man slepith with `his sones wijf, euer either die, for thei han wrouyt greet synne; her blood be on hem.

¹³ If a man slepith with a man, bi letcherie of a womman, euer either hath wrouyt vnleueful thing, die thei bi deeth; her blood be on hem.

¹⁴ He that weddith ouer his wijf hir moder, hath wrouyt greet synne; he schal be brent quyk with hem, and so greet vnleueful doynge schal not dwelle in the myddis of you.

¹⁵ He that doith letcherie with a greet beeste, ethir a litil beeste die bi deeth, also sle ye the beeste.

¹⁶ A womman that liggith vndur ony beeste, be slayn togidere with it; the blood `of hem be on hem.

¹⁷ He that takith his sistir `the douytir of his fadir, ether the douyter of his modir, and seeth hir filthe, and sche seeth the schenschip of the brothir, thei han wrouyt an vnleueful thing, bothe schulen be slayn in the siyt of her puple; for thei schewiden togidere her filthe, and thei schulen bere her wickidnesse.

¹⁸ If a man doith fleischly knowyng with a womman in the flux of monethe, and schewith hir filthe, and sche openeth the welle of hir blood, bothe schulen be slayn fro the myddis of her puple.

¹⁹ Thou schalt not diskyuere the filthe of thi modris sistir, and of thi fadris sistir; he, that doith this, schal `make nakid the schenschip of his fleisch, and bothe schulen bere her wickidnesse.

²³ Nyle ye go in the lawful thingis of naciouns, whiche Y schal caste out bifor you, for thei diden alle these thingis, and Y hadde abhomynacioun of hem.

⁴ 'And if the people of the land really hide their eyes from that man, in his giving of his seed to the Molech, so as not to put him to death,

⁵ then I have set My face against that man, and against his family, and have cut him off, and all who are going a-whoring after him, even going a-whoring after the Molech, from the midst of their people.

⁶ 'And the person who turneth unto those having familiar spirits, and unto the wizards, to go a-whoring after them, I have even set My face against that person, and cut him off from the midst of his people.

⁷ 'And ye have sanctified yourselves, and ye have been holy, for I am Jehovah your God;

⁸ and ye have kept My statutes and have done them; I am Jehovah, sanctifying you.

⁹ 'For any man who revileth his father and his mother is certainly put to death; his father and his mother he hath reviled: his blood is on him.

¹⁰ 'And a man who committeth adultery with a man's wife — who committeth adultery with the wife of his neighbour — the adulterer and the adulteress are surely put to death.

¹¹ 'And a man who lieth with his father's wife — the nakedness of his father he hath uncovered — both of them are certainly put to death; their blood is on them.

¹² 'And a man who lieth with his daughter-in-law — both of them are certainly put to death; confusion they have made; their blood is on them.

¹³ 'And a man who lieth with a male as one lieth with a woman; abomination both of them have done; they are certainly put to death; their blood is on them.

¹⁴ 'And a man who taketh the woman and her mother — it is wickedness; with fire they burn him and them, and there is no wickedness in your midst.

¹⁵ 'And a man who giveth his lying with a beast is certainly put to death, and the beast ye do slay.

¹⁶ 'And a woman who draweth near unto any beast to lie with it — thou hast even slain the woman and the beast; they are certainly put to death; their blood is on them.

¹⁷ 'And a man who taketh his sister, a daughter of his father or daughter of his mother, and he hath seen her nakedness, and she seeth his nakedness: it is a shame; and they have been cut off before the eyes of the sons of their people; the nakedness of his sister he hath uncovered; his iniquity he beareth.

¹⁸ 'And a man who lieth with a sick woman, and hath uncovered her nakedness, her fountain he hath made bare, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood, — even both of them have been cut off from the midst of their people.

¹⁹ 'And the nakedness of thy mother's sister, and of thy father's sister, thou dost not uncover; because his relation he hath made bare; their iniquity they bear.
