¹ And Jehovah spake unto Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before Jehovah, and died;

² and Jehovah said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil, before the mercy-seat which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy-seat.

³ Herewith shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with the linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: they are the holy garments; and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and put them on.

⁵ And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two he-goats for a sin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering.

⁶ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself, and for his house.

⁷ And he shall take the two goats, and set them before Jehovah at the door of the tent of meeting.

⁸ And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for Jehovah, and the other lot for Azazel.

⁹ And Aaron shall present the goat upon which the lot fell for Jehovah, and offer him for a sin-offering.

¹⁰ But the goat, on which the lot fell for Azazel, shall be set alive before Jehovah, to make atonement for him, to send him away for Azazel into the wilderness.

¹¹ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin-offering which is for himself.

¹² And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before Jehovah, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:

¹³ and he shall put the incense upon the fire before Jehovah, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy-seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

¹⁴ and he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy-seat on the east; and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

¹⁵ Then shall he kill the goat of the sin-offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy-seat, and before the mercy-seat:

¹⁶ and he shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleannesses of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins: and so shall he do for the tent of meeting, that dwelleth with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tent of meeting when he goeth in to make atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall go out unto the altar that is before Jehovah, and make atonement for it, and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.

¹⁹ And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleannesses of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he hath made an end of atoning for the holy place, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat:

²¹ and Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a man that is in readiness into the wilderness:

²² and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a solitary land: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:

²⁴ and he shall bathe his flesh in water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt-offering and the burnt-offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that letteth go the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock of the sin-offering, and the goat of the sin-offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be carried forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁹ And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the home-born, or the stranger that sojourneth among you:

³⁰ for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins shall ye be clean before Jehovah.

³¹ It is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute for ever.

⁴ And he shall put on the consecrated linen tunic, and he shall have on his flesh the linen drawers, and shall gird himself with a linen girdle, and shall put on the linen cap, they are holy garments; and he shall bathe all his body in water, and shall put them on.

⁵ And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin-offering, and one lamb for a whole-burnt-offering.

¹³ And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, and the smoke of the incense shall cover the mercy-seat over the tables of testimony, and he shall not die.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the calf, and sprinkle with his finger on the mercy-seat eastward: before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ And he shall kill the goat for the sin-offering that is for the people, before the Lord; and he shall bring in of its blood within the veil, and shall do with its blood as he did with the blood of the calf, and shall sprinkle its blood on the mercy-seat, in front of the mercy-seat.

¹⁶ And he shall make atonement for the sanctuary on account of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and for their trespasses in the matter of all their sins; and thus shall he do to the tabernacle of witness established among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of witness, when he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, until he shall have come out; and he shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and for all the congregation of the children of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall come forth to the altar that is before the Lord, and he shall make atonement upon it; and he shall take of the blood of the calf, and of the blood of the goat, and shall put it on the horns of the altar round about.

¹⁹ And he shall sprinkle some of the blood upon it seven times with his finger, and shall purge it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And he shall finish making atonement for the sanctuary and for the tabernacle of witness, and for the altar; and he shall make a cleansing for the priests, and he shall bring the living goat;

²¹ and Aaron shall lay his hands on the head of the live goat, and he shall declare over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their unrighteousnesses, and all their sins; and he shall lay them upon the head of the live goat, and shall send him by the hand of a ready man into the wilderness.

²² And the goat shall bear their unrighteousnesses upon him into a desert land; and Aaron shall send away the goat into the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall enter into the tabernacle of witness, and shall put off the linen garment, which he had put on, as he entered into the holy place, and shall lay it by there.

²⁴ And he shall bathe his body in water in the holy place, and shall put on his raiment, and shall go out and offer the whole-burnt-offering for himself and the whole-burnt-offering for the people: and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and for the people, as for the priests.

²⁵ And he shall offer the fat for the sin-offering on the altar.

²⁶ And he that sends forth the goat that has been set apart to be let go, shall wash his garments, and bathe his body in water, and afterwards shall enter into the camp.

²⁷ And the calf for the sin-offering, and the goat for the sin-offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, they shall carry forth out of the camp, and burn them with fire, even their skins and their flesh and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burns them shall wash his garments, and bathe his body in water, and afterwards he shall enter into the camp.

²⁹ And this shall be a perpetual statute for you; in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall humble your souls, and shall do no work, the native and the stranger who abides among you.

³⁰ For in this day he shall make an atonement for you, to cleanse you from all your sins before the Lord, and ye shall be purged.

³¹ This shall be to you a most holy sabbath, a rest, and ye shall humble your souls; it is a perpetual ordinance.

¹¹ And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:

¹² And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:

¹¹ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:

¹² and he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:

¹³ and he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy-seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

¹⁴ and he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy-seat on the east; and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tent of meeting when he goeth in to make atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.

¹⁹ And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleannesses of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he hath made an end of atoning for the holy place, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat:

²¹ and Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a man that is in readiness into the wilderness:

²² and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a solitary land: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:

²⁴ and he shall bathe his flesh in water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that letteth go the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock of the sin offering, and the goat of the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be carried forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁹ And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the homeborn, or the stranger that sojourneth among you:

³⁰ for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins shall ye be clean before the LORD.

³¹ It is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute for ever.

¹ After the two sons of Aaron died because they burned incense to Yahweh in a manner that was contrary to what Yahweh commanded, Yahweh spoke to Moses/me.

² He said to him/me, “Warn your older brother Aaron that he must not enter the Very Holy Place inside the curtain that is in the Sacred Tent whenever he wants to, because the cover of the sacred chest is there. That is the place where the priest ◄makes atonement for/requests me to forgive► sins. I am present in the cloud that is over the cover of the sacred chest. If Aaron goes in that room when it is not the proper time, he will die!

³ When Aaron enters the Sacred Tent area, he must bring a bull that will be killed to become an offering/sacrifice for sins, and a ram to be killed to be an offering that will be completely burned on the altar.

⁴ Then he must bathe his whole body, and put on the linen underwear/undershorts and the linen gown. He must tie the linen sash/waistbands around his waist and wrap the turban around his head. Those are his sacred garments.

⁵ The Israeli people must then bring to him two male goats to be killed as an offering/sacrifice for sin, and a ram to be killed and burned completely on the altar.

⁶ Aaron must offer the bull to me to be a sacrifice in order that ◄I will forgive his sins and the sins of his family/his sins and the sins of his family will be forgiven►.

⁷ Then he must bring the two male goats to me at the entrance to the Sacred Tent.

⁸ He must ◄cast lots/throw down stones that have been marked► to determine which goat will be sacrificed to me, and which will be the goat that will be set free.

⁹ Aaron must bring to me the goat that was chosen to be sacrificed. It will be an offering for the people's sins.

¹⁰ Aaron must also bring to me the other goat, but it is not to be killed. It will be freed while it is still alive. As a result of Aaron sending it into the desert, the people's sins will be forgiven.

¹¹ Then Aaron must bring the young bull to me, to be an offering/sacrifice for himself and for his family. He must slaughter that bull to be an offering for their sins, and he must drain the blood into a basin.

¹² Then he must take some burning coals from the bronze altar and put them in the incense burner. Then he must fill his hands with fragrant finely-ground incense. Then he must take the incense and the incense burner inside the curtain into the Very Holy Place of the Sacred Tent.

¹³ There he must put the incense on the burning coals, with the result that a cloud of burning incense will rise up over the lid of the sacred chest. If he obeys these instructions, he will not die like Korah's two sons did because of offering incense incorrectly (OR, because of being in God's presence).

¹⁴ Then he must dip his finger into the basin and sprinkle some blood on the lid of the sacred chest, and also sprinkle some blood seven times against the front of the chest.

¹⁵ Aaron must then go outside the Sacred Tent and slaughter the goat to be an offering for the sins of the people. Then he must bring its blood into the Very Holy Place behind the curtain. There he must sprinkle some of that blood on the lid of the sacred chest and against the front of the chest, like he did with the bull's blood.

¹⁶ By doing that, he will purify the Very Holy Place. And he must sprinkle more of the blood on the Sacred Tent, because the tent is in the midst of the camp of the Israeli people who have become unacceptable to me because of their sins.

¹⁷ When Aaron goes into the Very Holy Place in the Sacred Tent to purify it, no one else is permitted to enter the other part of the Sacred Tent. Only after Aaron has performed rituals to enable me to forgive him and his family, and all the Israeli people, is any priest permitted to enter the Sacred Tent.

¹⁸ Then Aaron must go outside the tent to purify my altar. He must do this by smearing some of the blood from the bull and some of the blood from the goat on each of the projections at the corners of the altar.

¹⁹ Then Aaron must dip his finger into the basin of blood and sprinkle some of the blood over the altar seven times. By doing that, he will cleanse it from being unholy because of the sins of the Israeli people, and it will become holy again.

²⁰ When Aaron has finished purifying the Very Holy Place inside the Sacred Tent and all of the Sacred Tent and the altar, he must bring the goat that was chosen to be set free.

²¹ He must put both of his hands on the head of the goat and confess all the sins DOU of the Israeli people. By doing that, he will put the guilt of their sins on the head of the goat. Then he must give the goat to a man who is chosen, and that man will send the goat out into the desert.

²² It is as though the goat will carry away into the desert the guilt for the sins of all the people.

²³ When Aaron approaches the Sacred Tent, he must take off the linen clothes that he wore when he previously entered the Very Holy Place, and he must leave those clothes there.

²⁴ Then he must bathe in a sacred place, put on his regular/ordinary clothes, and sacrifice the animals that will be burned completely on the altar, for his own sins and for the sins of the Israeli people. By doing that he will enable me to forgive him and them.

²⁵ He must also burn on the altar all the fat of the bull and the goat that were sacrificed.

²⁶ The man who was chosen to send the other goat into the desert and free it there must afterwards wash his clothes and bathe. Then he may return to the camp.

²⁷ The carcasses of the bull and the goat that were slaughtered to be an offering/sacrifice for the people's sins, whose blood was taken inside the Very Holy Place to enable Yahweh to forgive the Israeli people, must be carried outside the camp and burned. The hides/skins of the animals, the inner organs, and the dung must also be burned.

²⁸ The man who burns those things must then wash his clothes and bathe before he returns to the camp.

²⁹ In ◄October/the month after the dry season ends►, on the day that I have appointed, you all must ◄fast/abstain from eating food► and not do any work. This is a rule/law that will never end. It must be obeyed by you people who have been Israelis all your lives, and also by foreigners who are living among you.

³⁰ On that day, Aaron will perform rituals to enable me to forgive you all, and then I will cleanse/free you all from the guilt of all your sins and you will become acceptable to me.

³¹ That will be a day for you to rest and not do any work, like the Sabbath days, and you must ◄fast/abstain from eating food► all that day. That is a permanent command/law for you all to obey.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses after the two sons of Aaron died in bringing strange fire before the Lord, so they died.

² And the Lord said to Moses, Speak to Aaron your brother, and let him not come in at all times into the holy place within the veil before the propitiatory, which is upon the ark of the testimony, and he shall not die; for I will appear in a cloud on the propitiatory.

³ Thus shall Aaron enter into the holy place; with a calf of the herd for a sin-offering, and having a ram for a whole burnt offering.

⁴ And he shall put on the consecrated linen tunic, and he shall have on his flesh the linen drawers, and shall gird himself with a linen girdle, and shall put on the linen cap, they are holy garments; and he shall bathe all his body in water, and shall put them on.

⁵ And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin-offering, and one lamb for a whole burnt offering.

⁶ And Aaron shall bring the calf for his own sin-offering, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house.

⁷ And he shall take the two goats, and place them before the Lord by the door of the tabernacle of witness.

⁸ and Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats, one lot for the Lord, and the other for the scape-goat.

⁹ And Aaron shall bring forward the goat on which the lot for the Lord fell, and shall offer him for a sin-offering.

¹⁰ and the goat upon which the lot of the scape-goat came, he shall present alive before the Lord, to make atonement upon him, so as to send him away as a scape-goat, and he shall send him into the wilderness.

¹¹ And Aaron shall bring the calf for his sin, and he shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and he shall kill the calf for his sin-offering.

¹³ And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, and the smoke of the incense shall cover the mercy-seat over the tables of testimony, and he shall not die.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the calf, and sprinkle with his finger on the mercy-seat eastward: before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ And he shall kill the goat for the sin-offering that is for the people, before the Lord; and he shall bring in of its blood within the veil, and shall do with its blood as he did with the blood of the calf, and shall sprinkle its blood on the mercy-seat, in front of the mercy-seat.

¹⁶ and he shall make atonement for the sanctuary on account of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and for their trespasses in the matter of all their sins; and thus shall he do to the tabernacle of witness established amongst them in the midst of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ and there shall be no man in the tabernacle of witness, when he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, until he shall have come out; and he shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and for all the congregation of the children of Israel.

²³ And Aaron shall enter into the tabernacle of witness, and shall put off the linen garment, which he had put on, as he entered into the holy place, and shall lay it by there.

²⁴ And he shall bathe his body in water in the holy place, and shall put on his raiment, and shall go out and offer the whole burnt offering for himself and the whole burnt offering for the people: and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and for the people, as for the priests.

²⁵ And he shall offer the fat for the sin-offering on the altar.

¹⁸ “He shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull’s blood, and some of the goat’s blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar.

¹⁹ He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ “When he has finished atoning for the Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.

²¹ Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is ready.

²² The goat shall carry all their iniquities on himself to a solitary land, and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

²³ “Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.

²⁴ Then he shall bathe himself in water in a holy place, put on his garments, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar.

²⁶ “He who lets the goat go as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁷ The bull for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried outside the camp; and they shall burn their skins, their flesh, and their dung with fire.

²⁸ He who burns them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁹ “It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, whether native-born or a stranger who lives as a foreigner amongst you;

³⁰ for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you. You shall be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

³¹ It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever.

¹ And the Lord said to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron when they took in strange fire before the Lord and death overtook them;

² The Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron, your brother, that he may not come at all times into the holy place inside the veil, before the cover which is on the ark, for fear that death may overtake him; for I will be seen in the cloud on the cover of the ark.

³ Let Aaron come into the holy place in this way: with an ox for a sin-offering and a male sheep for a burned offering.

⁴ Let him put on the holy linen coat, and the linen trousers on his body, and the linen band round him, and the linen head-dress on his head; for this is holy clothing, and before he puts them on his body is to be washed with water.

⁵ And let him take from the children of Israel two he-goats for a sin-offering and one male sheep for a burned offering.

⁶ And Aaron is to give the ox of the sin-offering for himself, to make himself and his house free from sin.

⁷ And he is to take the two goats and put them before the Lord at the door of the Tent of meeting.

⁸ And Aaron will make selection from the two goats by the decision of the Lord, one goat for the Lord and one for Azazel.

⁹ And the goat which is marked out for the Lord, let Aaron give for a sin-offering.

¹⁰ But the goat for Azazel is to be placed living before the Lord, for the taking away of sin, that it may be sent away for Azazel into the waste land.

¹¹ And Aaron is to give the ox of the sin-offering for himself and take away sin from himself and his house, and put to death the ox of the sin-offering which is for himself.

¹² And he is to take a vessel full of burning coal from the altar before the Lord and in his hand some sweet perfume crushed small, and take it inside the veil;

¹³ And let him put the perfume on the fire before the Lord so that the ark may be covered with a cloud of the smoke of the perfume, in order that death may not overtake him.

¹⁴ And let him take some of the blood of the ox, shaking drops of it from his finger on the cover of the ark on the east side, and before it, seven times.

¹⁵ Then let him put to death the goat of the sin-offering for the people, and take its blood inside the veil and do with it as he did with the blood of the ox, shaking drops of it on and before the cover of the ark.

¹⁶ And let him make the holy place free from whatever is unclean among the children of Israel and from their wrongdoing in all their sins; and let him do the same for the Tent of meeting, which has its place among an unclean people.

¹⁷ And no man may be in the Tent of meeting from the time when Aaron goes in to take away sin in the holy place till he comes out, having made himself and his house and all the people of Israel free from sin.

¹⁸ And he is to go out to the altar which is before the Lord and make it free from sin; and he is to take some of the blood of the ox and the blood of the goat and put it on the horns of the altar and round it;

¹⁹ Shaking drops of the blood from his finger on it seven times to make it holy and clean from whatever is unclean among the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he has done whatever is necessary to make the holy place and the Tent of meeting and the altar free from sin, let him put the living goat before the Lord;

²¹ And Aaron, placing his two hands on the head of the living goat, will make a public statement over him of all the evil doings of the children of Israel and all their wrongdoing, in all their sins; and he will put them on the head of the goat and send him away, in the care of a man who will be waiting there, into the waste land.

²² And the goat will take all their sins into a land cut off from men, and he will send the goat away into the waste land.

²³ Then let Aaron come into the Tent of meeting and take off the linen clothing which he put on when he went into the holy place, and put them down there;

²⁴ And after bathing his body in water in a holy place, he is to put on his clothing and come out and give his burned offering and the burned offering of the people, to take away his sin and the sin of the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin-offering is to be burned by him on the altar.

²⁶ And the man who takes away the goat for Azazel is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water and then he may come back to the tent-circle.

²⁷ And the ox of the sin-offering and the goat of the sin-offering, whose blood was taken in to make the holy place free from sin, are to be taken away outside the tent-circle and their skins and their flesh and their waste are to be burned with fire.

²⁸ And the man by whom they are burned is to have his clothing washed and his body bathed in water, and then he may come back to the tent-circle.

²⁹ And let this be an order to you for ever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day, you are to keep yourselves from pleasure and do no sort of work, those who are Israelites by birth and those from other lands who are living among you:

³⁰ For on this day your sin will be taken away and you will be clean: you will be made free from all your sins before the Lord.

³¹ It is a special Sabbath for you, and you are to keep yourselves from pleasure; it is an order for ever.

¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they came near before Jehovah and died;

² and Jehovah said to Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the sanctuary inside the veil before the mercy-seat which is upon the ark, that he die not; for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy-seat.

³ In this manner shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bullock for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering.

⁴ A holy linen vest shall he put on, and linen trousers shall be upon his flesh, and he shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and put them on.

⁵ And of the assembly of the children of Israel shall he take two bucks of the goats for a sin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering.

⁶ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself, and for his house.

⁷ And he shall take the two goats, and set them before Jehovah, before the entrance of the tent of meeting.

⁸ And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats: one lot for Jehovah, and the other lot for Azazel.

⁹ And Aaron shall present the goat upon which the lot fell for Jehovah, and offer it as a sin-offering.

¹⁰ And the goat upon which the lot fell for Azazel shall be set alive before Jehovah, to make atonement with it, to send it away as Azazel into the wilderness.

¹¹ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall slaughter the bullock of the sin-offering which is for himself.

¹² And he shall take the censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before Jehovah, and both his hands full of fragrant incense beaten small, and bring it inside the veil.

¹³ And he shall put the incense upon the fire before Jehovah, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy-seat which is upon the testimony, that he die not.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle with his finger upon the front of the mercy-seat eastward; and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle of the blood seven times with his finger.

¹⁵ And he shall slaughter the goat of the sin-offering, which is for the people, and bring its blood inside the veil, and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy-seat, and before the mercy-seat;

¹⁶ and he shall make atonement for the sanctuary, to cleanse it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and from their transgressions in all their sins; and so shall he do for the tent of meeting which dwelleth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tent of meeting when he goeth in to make atonement in the sanctuary until he come out; and he shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and for the whole congregation of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall go out unto the altar which is before Jehovah, and make atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about;

¹⁹ and he shall sprinkle upon it of the blood with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleannesses of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he hath ended making atonement for the sanctuary, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, he shall present the living goat;

²¹ and Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the living goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away to the wilderness by the hand of a man standing ready;

²² that the goat may bear upon him all their iniquities to a land apart from men; and he shall send away the goat into the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall go into the tent of meeting, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the sanctuary, and shall leave them there;

²⁴ and he shall bathe his flesh with water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and go forth, and offer his burnt-offering, and the burnt-offering of the people, and make atonement for himself, and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that letteth go the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water; and afterwards he may come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock of the sin-offering, and the goat of the sin-offering whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the sanctuary, shall one carry forth outside the camp; and they shall burn with fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water; and afterwards he may come into the camp.

²⁹ And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you. In the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, the home-born, and the stranger that sojourneth among you;

³⁰ for on that day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you: from all your sins shall ye be clean before Jehovah.

³¹ A sabbath of rest shall it be unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls: it is an everlasting statute.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they were slain upon their offering strange fire:

² And he commanded him, saying, Speak to Aaron thy brother, that he enter not at all into the sanctuary, which is within the veil before the propitiatory, with which the ark is covered, lest he die, (for I will appear in a cloud over the oracle,)

³ Unless he first do these things: He shall offer a calf for sin, and a ram for a holocaust.

⁴ He shall be vested with a linen tunick, he shall cover his nakedness with linen breeches: he shall be girded with a linen girdle, and he shall put a linen mitre upon his head: for these are holy vestments: all which he shall put on, after he is washed.

⁵ And he shall receive from the whole multitude of the children of Israel two buck goats for sin, and one ram for a holocaust.

⁶ And when he hath offered the calf and prayed for himself, and for his own house,

⁷ He shall make the two buck goats to stand before the Lord in the door of the tabernacle of the testimony:

⁸ And casting lots upon them both, one to be offered to the Lord, and the other to be the emissary goat:

⁹ That whose lot fell to be offered to the Lord, he shall offer for sin:

¹⁰ But that whose lot was to be the emissary goat, he shall present alive before the Lord, that he may pour out prayers upon him, and let him go into the wilderness.

¹¹ After these things are duly celebrated, he shall offer the calf, and praying for himself and for his own house, he shall immolate it:

¹² And taking the censer, which he hath filled with the burning coals of the altar, and taking up with his hand the compounded perfume for incense, he shall go in within the veil into the holy place:

¹³ That when the perfumes are put upon the fire, the cloud and vapour thereof may cover the oracle, which is over the testimony, and he may not die.

¹⁴ He shall take also of the blood of the calf, and sprinkle with his finger seven times towards the propitiatory to the east.

¹⁵ And when he hath killed the buck goat for the sin of the people, he shall carry in the blood thereof within the veil, as he was commanded to do with the blood of the calf, that he may sprinkle it over against the oracle,

¹⁶ And may expiate the sanctuary from the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and from their transgressions, and all their sins. According to this rite shall he do to the tabernacle of the testimony, which is fixed among them in the midst of the filth of their habitation.

¹⁷ Let no man be in the tabernacle when the high priest goeth into the sanctuary, to pray for himself and his house, and for the whole congregation of Israel, until he come out.

¹⁸ And when he is come out to the altar that is before the Lord, let him pray for himself, and taking the blood of the calf, and of the buck goat, let him pour it upon the horns thereof round about:

¹⁹ And sprinkling with his finger seven times, let him expiate, and sanctify it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ After he hath cleansed the sanctuary, and the tabernacle, and the altar, then let him offer the living goat:

²¹ And putting both hands upon his head, let him confess all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their offences and sins: and praying that they may light on his head, he shall turn him out by a man ready for it, into the desert.

²² And when the goat hath carried all their iniquities into an uninhabited land, and shall be let go into the desert,

²³ Aaron shall return into the tabernacle of the testimony, and putting off the vestments, which he had on him before when he entered into the sanctuary, and leaving them there,

²⁴ He shall wash his flesh in the holy place, and shall put on his own garments. And after that he has come out and hath offered his own holocaust, and that of the people, he shall pray both for himself, and for the people:

²⁵ And the fat that is offered for sins, he shall burn upon the altar.

²⁶ But he that hath let go the emissary goat, shall wash his clothes, and his body with water, and so shall enter into the camp.

²⁷ But the calf and the buck goat, that were sacrificed for sin, and whose blood was carried into the sanctuary, to accomplish the atonement, they shall carry forth without the camp, and shall burn with fire, their skins and their flesh, and their dung:

²⁸ And whosoever burneth them shall wash his clothes, and flesh with water, and so shall enter into the camp.

²⁹ And this shall be to you an everlasting ordinance: The seventh month, the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no work, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you.

³⁰ Upon this day shall be the expiation for you, and the cleansing from all your sins: you shall be cleansed before the Lord.

³¹ For it is a sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls by a perpetual religion.

¹ The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of two of Aaron's sons when they went into the Lord's presence.

² The Lord told Moses: “Warn your brother Aaron not to come into the Most Holy Place whenever he wants, otherwise he'll die. For that's where I appear in the cloud above the atonement cover of the Ark, behind the veil.

³ These are the instructions as to how Aaron is to enter the sanctuary. He is to come with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.

⁴ He is to be wearing the holy linen tunic, with linen underwear. He has to tie a linen sash around him and put on the linen turban. These are holy clothes. He must wash himself with water before he puts them on.

⁵ From the people of Israel he is to bring two male goats for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

⁶ Aaron will present the bull as his own sin offering to make himself and his household right.

⁷ Then he will bring the two goats and present them before the Lord at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

⁸ Aaron will casts lots to choose between the goats, one for the Lord and the other for the scapegoat.

⁹ He will present the goat that was chosen by lot for the Lord and sacrifice it as a sin offering.

¹⁰ The goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat is to be presented alive before the Lord to make things right by sending it away into the wilderness as the scapegoat.

¹¹ Aaron is to present the bull for his sin offering to make things right for himself and his household by killing the bull as his own sin offering.

¹² Then he will fill up a incense burner with burning coals from the altar that is before the Lord, and with his hands full of finely-ground sweet-smelling incense, take them behind the veil.

¹³ In the presence of the Lord he will put the incense on the burning coals, and the smoke from the incense will cover the atonement cover above the Testimony, so that he will not die.

¹⁴ He will take some of the bull's blood and with his finger sprinkle it on the east side of the atonement cover. He shall also sprinkle some of it with his finger seven times in front of the atonement cover.

¹⁵ Then Aaron will slaughter the goat for the sin offering for the people and bring its blood behind the veil, and with its blood he must do as he did with the bull's blood: He is to sprinkle it against the mercy seat and in front of it.

¹⁶ This is how he will set right the Most Holy Place and purify it from the uncleanness of the Israelites, their acts of rebellion, and all their sins. He will do the same for the Tent of Meeting which is in the middle of their camp, surrounded by their unclean lives.

¹⁷ No one can be in the Tent of Meeting from the time Aaron enters to purify the Most Holy Place until he leaves, after he has made things right for himself, his household, and all the Israelites.

¹⁸ Then he shall go to the altar that is before the Lord and purify it. He is to take some of the blood from the bull and the goat and put it on all the horns of the altar.

¹⁹ He is to sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times to dedicate it and purify it from the uncleanness of the Israelites.

²⁰ Once Aaron has finished purifying the Most Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he is to present the live goat.

²¹ Then he will put both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wrongs of the Israelites, all their acts of rebellion, and all their sins. He is to put them on the goat's head and send it away into the desert, taken there by a man chosen to do it.

²² The goat will take upon itself all their sins and go into a distant place, and the man will send it away into the desert.

²³ Aaron is to return to the Tent of Meeting, take off the linen clothes he put on before he went into the Most Holy Place, and leave them there.

²⁴ He is to wash himself with water in the sanctuary and put on his own clothes. Then he will go out and sacrifice his burnt offering and the people's burnt offering that makes him and the people right.

²⁵ He also must burn the fat of the sin offering on the altar.

²⁶ The man who went and sent away the scapegoat must wash his clothes and wash himself with water; then he may come back into the camp.

²⁷ The remains of the bull used for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought into the Most Holy Place to purify it, must be taken outside the camp. Their skin, meat, and waste must be burned.

²⁸ The person who burns them must wash his clothes and wash himself with water; then he may come back into the camp.

²⁹ This regulation applies to you for all time. The tenth day of the seventh month is a day of self-denial for you. You are not to do any work. This applies to all who are native-born and also any foreigner who living among you,

³⁰ for on this day the process of making you right will be done, to make you clean from all your sins, clean before the Lord.

³¹ It is a Sabbath of Sabbaths, a day of rest and self-denial. This regulation applies for all time.

¹ Fvrthermore the Lord spake vnto Moses, after the death of the two sonnes of Aaron, whe they came to offer before the Lord, and dyed:

² And the Lord sayd vnto Moses, Speake vnto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the Holy place within the vayle, before the Merciseate, which is vpon the Arke, that he dye not: for I wil appeare in the cloude vpon the Merciseate.

³ After this sort shall Aaron come into the Holy place: euen with a yong bullocke for a sinne offring, and a ramme for a burnt offring.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linnen coate, and shall haue linnen breeches vpon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linnen girdle, and shall couer his head with a linnen miter: these are the holy garments: therefore shall hee wash his flesh in water, when he doeth put them on.

⁵ And hee shall take of the Congregation of the children of Israel, two hee goates for a sinne offring, and a ramme for a burnt offring.

⁶ Then Aaron shall offer the bullocke for his sinne offring, and make an atonement for himselfe, and for his house.

⁷ And he shall take the two hee goates, and present them before the Lord at the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

⁸ Then Aaron shall cast lots ouer the two hee goates: one lot for the Lord, and the other for the Scape goate.

⁹ And Aaron shall offer the goat, vpon which the Lords lot shall fal, and make him a sinne offring.

¹⁰ But the goate, on which the lot shall fall to be the Scape goate, shalbe presented aliue before the Lord, to make reconciliation by him, and to let him go (as a Scape goate) into the wildernes.

¹¹ Thus Aaron shall offer the bullocke for his sinne offring, and make a reconciliation for himselfe, and for his house, and shall kill the bullocke for his sinne offring.

¹² And he shall take a censer full of burning coles from off the altar before the Lord, and his handfull of sweete incense beaten small, and bring it within the vayle,

¹³ And shall put the incense vpon the fire before the Lord, that the cloude of the incense may couer the Merciseat that is vpon the Testimonie: so he shall not dye.

¹⁴ And hee shall take of the blood of the bullocke, and sprinkle it with his finger vpon the Merciseat Eastward: and before the Merciseate shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seuen times.

¹⁵ Then shall he kill the goate that is the peoples sinne offring, and bring his blood within the vaile, and doe with that blood, as he did with the blood of the bullocke, and sprinckle it vpon the Merciseate, and before the Merciseate.

¹⁶ So he shall purge the Holy place from the vncleannes of the children of Israel, and from their trespasses of all their sinnes: so shall he do also for the Tabernacle of the Cogregation placed with them, in the middes of their vncleannesse.

¹⁷ And there shalbe no man in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, when he goeth in to make an atonement in the Holy place, vntill hee come out, and haue made an atonement for himselfe, and for his housholde, and for all the Congregation of Israel.

¹⁸ After, he shall goe out vnto the altar that is before the Lord and make a reconciliation vpon it, and shall take of the blood of the bullocke, and of the blood of the goate, and put it vpon the hornes of the Altar round about:

¹⁹ So shall hee sprinkle of the blood vpon it with his finger seuen times, and clense it, and halowe it from the vncleannes of the children of Israel.

²⁰ When he hath made an ende of purging the Holy place, and the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and the altar, then he shall bring the liue goate:

²¹ And Aaron shall put both his handes vpon the head of the liue goate, and confesse ouer him al the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their trespasses, in all their sinnes, putting them vpon the head of the goate, and shall sende him away (by the hand of a man appointed) into the wildernes.

²² So the goate shall beare vpon him all their iniquities into the land that is not inhabited, and he shall let the goate go into the wildernesse.

²³ After, Aaron shall come into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and put off the linnen clothes, which he put on when he went into the Holy place, and leaue them there.

²⁴ Hee shall wash also his flesh with water in the Holy place, and put on his owne rayment, and come out, and make his burnt offring, and the burnt offring of the people, and make an atonement for himselfe, and for the people.

²⁵ Also the fatte of the sinne offring shall he burne vpon the altar.

²⁶ And he that caried forth the goat, called the Scape goat, shall wash his clothes, and wash his flesh in water, and after that shall come into the hoste.

²⁷ Also the bullocke for the sinne offring, and the goate for the sinne offring (whose blood was brought to make a reconciliation in the Holy place) shall one carie out without the hoste to be burnt in the fire, with their skinnes, and with their flesh, and with their doung.

²⁸ And hee that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and wash his flesh in water, and afterward come into the hoste.

²⁹ So this shalbe an ordinance for euer vnto you: the tenth day of the seuenth moneth, yee shall humble your soules, and do no worke at all, whether it be one of the same countrey or a strager that soiourneth among you.

³⁰ For that day shall ye Priest make an atonement for you to clense you: ye shalbe cleane from all your sinnes before the Lord.

³¹ This shall be a Sabbath of rest vnto you, and ye shall humble your soules, by an ordinance for euer.

² and the LORD said unto Moses: 'Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil, before the ark-cover which is upon the ark; that he die not; for I appear in the cloud upon the ark-cover.

³ Herewith shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering.

⁶ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself, and for his house.

⁷ And he shall take the two goats, and set them before the LORD at the door of the tent of meeting.

⁸ And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats: one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for Azazel.

⁹ And Aaron shall present the goat upon which the lot fell for the LORD, and offer him for a sin-offering.

¹⁰ But the goat, on which the lot fell for Azazel, shall be set alive before the LORD, to make atonement over him, to send him away for Azazel into the wilderness.

¹¹ And Aaron shall present the bullock of the sin-offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin-offering which is for himself.

¹² And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil.

¹³ And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the ark-cover that is upon the testimony, that he die not.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the ark-cover on the east; and before the ark-cover shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.

¹⁵ Then shall he kill the goat of the sin-offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the ark-cover, and before the ark-cover.

¹⁶ And he shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleannesses of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so shall he do for the tent of meeting, that dwelleth with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tent of meeting when he goeth in to make atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.

¹⁹ And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleannesses of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he hath made an end of atoning for the holy place, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.

²¹ And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of an appointed man into the wilderness.

²² And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land which is cut off; and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there.

²⁴ And he shall bathe his flesh in water in a holy place and put on his other vestments, and come forth, and offer his burnt-offering and the burnt-offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin-offering shall he make smoke upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that letteth go the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock of the sin-offering, and the goat of the sin-offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be carried forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp.

²⁹ And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the home-born, or the stranger that sojourneth among you.

³⁰ For on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins shall ye be clean before the LORD.

³¹ It is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute for ever.

² and the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

³ Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.

²² and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:

²⁴ and he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

¹³ And he shall put the incense upon the fire, before the Lord; that the cloud of the incense may envelop the mercy-seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger above toward the mercy-seat, eastward; and before the mercy-seat shall he sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ And he shall kill the goat of the sin-offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood to within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it above the mercy-seat, and before the mercy-seat.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin-offering shall he burn upon the altar.

²⁶ And he that carrieth the goat to 'Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock for the sin-offering, and the goat for the sin-offering, the blood of which was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp.

²⁹ And it shall be unto you a statute for ever: in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, ye shall afflict yourselves by fasting, and no work shall ye do, whether it be one of your own country, or the stranger that sojourneth among you;

³⁰ For on that day shall the high-priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins before the Lord shall ye be clean.

³¹ It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict yourselves by fasting, as a statute for ever.

¹ And the Lord spoke to Moses after the two sons of Aaron died in bringing strange fire before the Lord, so they died.

² And the Lord said to Moses, Speak to Aaron thy brother, and let him not come in at all times into the holy place within the veil before the propitiatory, which is upon the ark of the testimony, and he shall not die; for I will appear in a cloud on the propitiatory.

³ Thus shall Aaron enter into the holy place; with a calf of the herd for a sin offering, and having a ram for a whole burnt offering.

⁴ And he shall put on the consecrated linen tunic, and he shall have on his flesh the linen drawers, and shall gird himself with a linen girdle, and shall put on the linen cap, they are holy garments; and he shall bathe all his body in water, and shall put them on.

⁵ And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one lamb for a whole burnt offering.

⁶ And Aaron shall bring the calf for his own sin offering, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house.

¹¹ And Aaron shall bring the calf for his sin, and he shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and he shall kill the calf for his sin offering.

¹² And he shall take his censer full of coals of fire off the altar, which is before the Lord; and he shall fill his hands with fine compound incense, and shall bring it within the veil.

¹³ And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, and the smoke of the incense shall cover the mercy seat over the tables of testimony, and he shall not die.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the calf, and sprinkle with his finger on the mercy seat eastward: before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ And he shall kill the goat for the sin offering that is for the people, before the Lord; and he shall bring in of its blood within the veil, and shall do with its blood as he did with the blood of the calf, and shall sprinkle its blood on the mercy seat, in front of the mercy seat.

¹⁶ And he shall make atonement for the sanctuary on account of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and for their trespasses in the matter of all their sins; and thus shall he do to the tabernacle of witness established among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of witness, when he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, until he shall have come out; and he shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and for all the congregation of the children of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall come forth to the altar that is before the Lord, and he shall make atonement upon it; and he shall take of the blood of the calf, and of the blood of the goat, and shall put it on the horns of the altar round about.

¹⁹ And he shall sprinkle some of the blood upon it seven times with his finger, and shall purge it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And he shall finish making atonement for the sanctuary and for the tabernacle of witness, and for the altar; and he shall make a cleansing for the priests, and he shall bring the living goat;

²¹ and Aaron shall lay his hands on the head of the live goat, and he shall declare over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their unrighteousnesses, and all their sins; and he shall lay them upon the head of the live goat, and shall send him by the hand of a ready man into the wilderness.

²² And the goat shall bear their unrighteousnesses upon him into a desert land; and Aaron shall send away the goat into the wilderness.

²³ And Aaron shall enter into the tabernacle of witness, and shall put off the linen garment, which he had put on, as he entered into the holy place, and shall lay it by there.

²⁴ And he shall bathe his body in water in the holy place, and shall put on his raiment, and shall go out and offer the whole burnt offering for himself and the whole burnt offering for the people: and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and for the people, as for the priests.

²⁵ And he shall offer the fat for the sin offering on the altar.

²⁶ And he that sends forth the goat that has been set apart to be let go, shall wash his garments, and bathe his body in water, and afterward shall enter into the camp.

²⁷ And the calf for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, they shall carry forth out of the camp, and burn them with fire, even their skins and their flesh and their dung.

²⁸ And he that burns them shall wash his garments, and bathe his body in water, and afterward he shall enter into the camp.

²⁹ And this shall be a perpetual statute for you; in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall humble your souls, and shall do no work, the native and the stranger who abides among you.

³⁰ For in this day he shall make an atonement for you, to cleanse you from all your sins before the Lord, and ye shall be purged.

³¹ This shall be to you a most holy Sabbath, a rest, and ye shall humble your souls; it is a perpetual ordinance.

¹ And the Lord spake with Mosheh after the two sons of Aharon were dead, who offered the strange fire before the Lord, and died;

² And the Lord said unto Mosheh, Speak with Aharon thy brother, that he may not enter at any time into the Holy Place within the veil before the mercy seat which is upon the ark, that he die not; for in the cloud will I reveal Myself over the mercy seat.

¹⁰ And the goat whose lot came up for Azazel he shall make to stand alive before the Lord, to make an atonement upon him, and to send him away to Azazel, to the desert.

¹¹ And Aharon shall offer the bullock for his own sin, and make atonement for himself and for the men of his house and he shall kill the bullock for the sin offering which is for himself.

¹² And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his handful of sweet incense beaten small, and carry (them) within the veil.

¹³ And he shall put the sweet incense upon the fire before the Lord, and the cloud of incense will envelope the mercy seat which is over the testimony, that he may not die.

¹⁴ And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the face of the mercy seat eastward, and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ And be shall kill the goat for the sin offering of the people, and enter, with its blood, within the veil, and do with his blood as he had done with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat and before the mercy seat.

¹⁶ And he shall (thus) make atonement for the holy place on account of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and the rebellion of all their sin. And so shall he do for the tabernacle of ordinance which remaineth with them in the midst of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ But no man shall be in the tabernacle of ordinance (at the time of) his entering to make atonement in the holy place until his coming out: and he shall atone for himself, and for the men of his house, and for all the congregation of Israel.

¹⁸ And he shall go forth to the altar which is before the Lord, and make atonement for it; and take of the blood of the bullock and of the goat’s blood, and put upon the horns of the altar round about;

¹⁹ And of the blood he shall sprinkle upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it and sanctify it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ And when he hath completed to atone for the holy place, and for the tabernacle of ordinance, and for the altar, then shall he bring the living goat.

²¹ And Aharon shall lay his two hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their rebellions, and all their sins, and put them upon the head of the goat, and send him away, by the hand of an appointed man, to go into the desert.

²² And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities into a land not inhabited; and he shall send the goat away into the desert.

²³ And Aharon shall go into the tabernacle of ordinance, and put off the linen robes which he wore on going into the Holy Place, and shall lay them there aside.

²⁴ And he shall wash his flesh with water in the Holy Place, and put on his garments, and come forth to offer his burnt sacrifice, and the burnt sacrifice of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ And the fat of the sin offering he shall burn at the altar.

²⁶ But he who led away the goat unto Azazel shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterwards go into the camp.

²⁷ And the bullock of the sin offering whose blood was carried in to make atonement in the Holy Place, he shall take forth out of the camp, and they shall burn their skins and their flesh and their food with fire.

²⁸ And he who burned them must wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh with water, and may then enter into the camp.

²⁹ And this shall be to you for an everlasting statute: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict (humble) your souls, and do no work, whether the native-born or the stranger that dwelleth among you.

³⁰ For on that day he shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you from all your sins, that you may be cleansed from all your sins before the Lord.

³¹ A Sabbath it shall be to you, and you shall humble your souls. It is an everlasting statute.

¹ Adonai spoke to Moses Drawn out, after the death of the two sons of Aaron Light-bringer, when they came near before Adonai , and died;

² and Adonai said to Moses Drawn out, “Tell Aaron Light-bringer your brother, not to come at all times into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die: for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.

³ “Aaron Light-bringer shall come into the sanctuary with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linen coat. He shall have the linen breeches on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.

⁵ He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel God prevails two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

⁶ “Aaron Light-bringer shall offer the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.

⁷ He shall take the two goats, and set them before Adonai at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

¹⁴ He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

¹⁵ “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat.

¹⁶ He shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel God prevails, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting, that dwells with them in the middle of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ No one shall be in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel God prevails. (LY:2)

³⁰ for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before Adonai .

³¹ It is a Sabbath ·To cease· of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a regulation forever.

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses—this was after the death of Aaron's two sons, when they had gone near to Yahweh and then died.

² Yahweh said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron your brother and tell him not to come at just any time into the most holy place inside the curtain, before the atonement lid that is on the ark. If he does, he will die, because I appear in the cloud over the atonement lid.

³ So here is how Aaron must come into the most holy place. He must enter with a young bull as a sin offering, and a ram as a burnt offering.

⁴ He must put on the holy linen tunic, and he must put the linen undergarments on himself, and he must wear the linen sash and linen turban. These are the holy garments. He must bathe his body in water and then dress himself with these clothes.

⁵ He must take from the assembly of the people of Israel two male goats as a sin offering and one ram as a burnt offering.

⁶ Then Aaron must present the bull as the sin offering, which will be for himself, to make atonement for himself and his family.

⁷ Then he must take the two goats and set them before Yahweh at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

⁸ Then Aaron must cast lots for the two goats, one lot for Yahweh, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

⁹ Aaron must then present the goat on which the lot fell for Yahweh, and offer that goat as a sin offering.

¹⁰ But the goat on which the lot fell for the scapegoat must be brought alive before Yahweh, to make atonement by sending him away as a scapegoat into the wilderness.

¹¹ Then Aaron must present the bull for the sin offering, which will be for himself. He must make atonement for himself and for his family, so he must kill the bull as a sin offering for himself.

¹² Aaron must take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before Yahweh, with his hands full of finely ground sweet incense, and bring these things inside the curtain.

¹³ There he must put the incense on the fire before Yahweh so that the cloud from the incense may cover the atonement lid over the covenant decrees. He must do this so he will not die.

¹⁴ Then he must take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the atonement lid. He must sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times before the atonement lid.

¹⁵ Then he must kill the goat for the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the curtain. There he must do with the blood as he did with the blood of the bull: He must sprinkle it on the atonement lid and then before the atonement lid.

¹⁶ He must make atonement for the holy place because of the unclean actions of the people of Israel, and because of their rebellion and all their sins. He must also do this for the tent of meeting, where Yahweh lives among them, in the presence of their unclean actions.

¹⁷ No one must be in the tent of meeting when Aaron enters it to make atonement in the most holy place, and until he comes out and has finished making atonement for himself and for his family, and for all the assembly of Israel.

Then he must put that sinfulness on the head of the goat and send the goat away in the care of a man who is ready to lead the goat into the wilderness.

²² The goat must carry on himself all the people's wickedness to a solitary place. There in the wilderness, the man must let the goat go free.

²³ Then Aaron must go back into the tent of meeting and take off the linen garments that he had put on before going into the most holy place, and he must leave those garments there.

²⁴ He must bathe his body in water in a holy place, and put on his normal garments; then he must go out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering for the people, and in this way make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ He must burn the fat of the sin offering on the altar.

²⁶ The man who let the scapegoat go free must wash his clothes and bathe his body in water; after that, he may come back into the camp.

²⁷ The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, must be carried outside the camp. There they must burn their hides, flesh, and dung.

²⁸ The man who burns those parts must wash his clothes and bathe his body in water; after that, he may come back into the camp.

²⁹ It will always be a statute for you that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you must humble yourselves and do no work, whether the native born or a foreigner who is living among you.

³⁰ This is because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you from all your sins so you will be clean before Yahweh.

³¹ It is a solemn Sabbath of rest for you, and you must humble yourselves and do no work. This will always be a statute among you.

² and the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.

³ “Aaron shall come into the sanctuary with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linen tunic. He shall have the linen trousers on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.

⁵ He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

⁶ “Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.

⁷ He shall take the two goats, and set them before the LORD at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

⁸ Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

⁹ Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the LORD, and offer him for a sin offering.

¹⁰ But the goat on which the lot fell for the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement for him, to send him away as the scapegoat into the wilderness.

¹¹ “Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.

¹² He shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil.

¹³ He shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the covenant, so that he will not die.

¹⁴ He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

¹⁵ “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat.

¹⁶ He shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting that dwells with them in the middle of their uncleanness.

¹⁷ No one shall be in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.

¹⁸ “He shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull’s blood, and some of the goat’s blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar.

¹⁹ He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

²⁰ “When he has finished atoning for the Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.

²¹ Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is ready.

²² The goat shall carry all their iniquities on himself to a solitary land, and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

²³ “Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.

²⁴ Then he shall bathe himself in water in a holy place, put on his garments, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.

²⁵ The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar.

²⁶ “He who lets the goat go as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁷ The bull for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried outside the camp; and they shall burn their skins, their flesh, and their dung with fire.

²⁸ He who burns them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

²⁹ “It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, whether native-born or a stranger who lives as a foreigner amongst you;

³⁰ for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you. You shall be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

³¹ It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever.

¹ And the Lord spake to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered alien fire, and were slain,

² and commanded to him and said, Speak thou to Aaron, thy brother, that he enter not in all time into the saintuary, which is within the veil before the propitiatory, with which the ark is covered, that he die not; for I shall appear in a cloud on God’s answering place;

³ no but he do these things before. He shall offer a calf for sin, and a ram into burnt sacrifice;

⁴ he shall be clothed with a linen cloth, and he shall hide his shame-fast members with linen breeches; he shall be girded with a linen girdle, and he shall put a linen mitre on his head; for these clothes be holy, with them all he shall be clothed, when he is washed.

⁵ And he shall take of all the multitude of the sons of Israel two kids for sin, and one ram into burnt sacrifice;

⁶ and when he offereth a calf, and prayeth, for himself, and for his house,

⁷ he shall make two goat bucks to stand before the Lord, in the door of the tabernacle of witnessing;

⁸ and Aaron shall cast lot upon ever either, one lot to the Lord, and another lot to the goat that shall be sent out.

⁹ Whose lot goeth out to the Lord, he shall offer it for sin;

¹⁰ soothly whose lot goeth out into the goat that shall be sent out, he shall set him quick before the Lord, that he send prayers on him, and send him out into wilderness.

¹¹ When these things be done rightfully, he shall offer the calf, and he shall pray for himself, and for his house, and shall offer the calf.

¹² And when he hath taken a censer, which he hath full-filled of the coals of the altar, and he hath taken in his hand the sweet smelling spicery or spices made into incense, he shall enter over the veil into the holy things;

¹³ that when sweet smelling spiceries or spices be put on the fire, the cloud and vapour of those or them cover God’s answering place, that is, the propitiatory, which is on the witnessing, that is, on the ark with the tables of law, and he die not.

¹⁴ Also Aaron shall take of the calf’s blood, and he shall sprinkle seven times with his finger against God’s answering place, eastward.

¹⁵ And when Aaron hath slain the goat buck, offered for the sin of the people, he shall bring in the blood thereof within the veil, as it is commanded of the calf’s blood, that he sprinkle it even against God’s answering place,

¹⁶ and he shall cleanse the saintuary from the uncleanness of the sons of Israel, and from their trespassings, and from all their sins. By this custom he shall do in the tabernacle of witnessing, which is set among them, in the midst of the filths of the habitation of them.

¹⁷ No man be in the tabernacle, when the bishop shall enter into the saintuary, that he pray for himself, and for his house, and for all the company of Israel, till he go out of the tabernacle.

¹⁸ Soothly when he hath gone out to the altar which is before the Lord, pray he for himself, and shed or pour he on the horns thereof, by compass, the blood that is taken of the calf, and of the goat buck;

¹⁹ and sprinkle he it seven times with his finger, and cleanse he, and hallow he the altar from the unclean-nesses of the sons of Israel.

²⁰ After that he hath cleansed the saintuary, and the tabernacle, and the altar, then offer he the living goat buck;

²¹ and when his ever either hand is put upon the head thereof, acknowledge the priest all the wickednesses of the sons of Israel, and all their trespasses and sins, which sins the priest shall wish, or will, over to the goat’s head, and he shall send the goat out into desert by a man made ready thereto,.

²² And when the goat buck hath borne all their wickednesses into desert land, and he is let go there,

²³ Aaron shall turn again into the tabernacle of witnessing; and when the clothes be put off, in which he was clothed before, when he entered into the saintuary of God, and those clothes be left there,

²⁴ he shall wash his flesh in the holy place, and he shall be clothed in his own clothes, and after that he hath gone out, and hath offered the burnt sacrifice of himself, and of the people, he shall pray as well for himself, as for the people;

²⁵ and he shall burn on the altar the inner fatness which is offered for sin.

²⁶ Soothly he that let go the goat buck able to be sent out, shall wash his clothes and his body with water, and so he shall enter into the tents.

²⁷ Forsooth they shall bear out of the tents the calf and the goat buck, that were offered for sin, and whose blood was brought into the saintuary, that the cleansing were fulfilled; and they shall burn in fire as well the skins, as the flesh, and the dung of those beasts.

²⁸ And whoever burneth those or them, he shall wash his clothes and flesh in water, and so he shall enter into the tents.

²⁹ And this shall be to you a lawful thing everlasting; in the seventh month, in the tenth day of the month, ye shall torment your souls, and ye shall not do any work, neither a man born in the land, neither a comeling that is a pilgrim among you.

³⁰ The delivering from sin, and the cleansing of you, shall be in this day, ye shall be cleansed before the Lord from all your sins;

³¹ for it is the sabbath of resting, and ye shall torment your souls by ever-lasting religion.

² and commanded to him and said, Speak thou to Aaron, thy brother, that he enter not in all time into the saintuary, which is within the veil before the propitiatory, with which the ark is covered, that he die not; for I shall appear in a cloud on God’s answering place; (and commanded to him and said, Tell thou thy brother Aaron, that he must not enter into the sanctuary, which is behind the Veil, to go before the propitiatory, that is, the mercy seat, or the lid, which is on the Ark, that is, the Box for the tablets of the Law, except at the appointed time, so that he not die; for I shall appear there in a cloud above the propitiatory, or God’s answering place;)

³ no but he do these things before. He shall offer a calf for sin, and a ram into burnt sacrifice; (and to enter only after he hath first done these things. He shall bring a calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt sacrifice;)

⁴ he shall be clothed with a linen cloth, and he shall hide his shamefast members with linen breeches; he shall be girded with a linen girdle, and he shall put a linen mitre on his head; for these clothes be holy, with them all he shall be clothed, when he is washed. (and he shall be clothed with a linen cloak, or with a linen robe, and he shall hide his shameful members with linen breeches; and he shall be girded with a linen sash, and put a linen turban on his head; for these clothes be holy, and he shall be clothed with all of them, after that he hath washed himself.)

⁵ And he shall take of all the multitude of the sons of Israel two kids for sin, and one ram into burnt sacrifice; (And he shall take from all the multitude of the Israelites two goat kids for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt sacrifice;)

⁶ and when he offereth a calf, and prayeth, for himself, and for his house, (and after that he offereth the calf, and prayeth for cleansing for himself, and for his household, or for his family,)

⁷ he shall make (the) two goat bucks to stand before the Lord, in the door of the tabernacle of witnessing (or at the entrance to the Tabernacle of the Witnessing);

⁸ and Aaron shall cast lot upon ever either, one lot to the Lord, and another lot to the goat that shall be sent out. (and Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the goat that shall be sent out, that is, the scapegoat for Azazel.)

⁹ Whose lot goeth out to the Lord, he shall offer it for sin; (Whichever lot goeth out for the Lord, he shall offer that goat as a sin offering;)

¹⁰ soothly whose lot goeth out into the goat that shall be sent out, he shall set him quick before the Lord, that he send prayers on him, and send him out into wilderness. (and whichever lot goeth out for the goat that shall be sent out, that is, the scapegoat for Azazel, he shall present him alive before the Lord, and send prayers upon him, and then send him out into the wilderness, to Azazel.)

¹¹ When these things be done rightfully, he shall offer the calf, and he shall pray for himself, and for his house, and shall offer the calf. (When these things be done by this rite, he shall bring forth the calf, and he shall pray for cleansing for himself, and for his household, or for his family, and then he shall kill the calf for a sin offering.)

¹² And when he hath taken a censer, which he hath full-filled of the coals of the altar, and he hath taken in his hand the sweet smelling spicery made into incense, he shall enter over the veil into the holy things; (And when he hath taken a censer, which he hath filled full with coals from the altar, and he hath taken in his hand the sweet smelling spices made into incense, he shall go into the Most Holy Place within the Veil;)

¹³ that when sweet smelling spiceries be put on the fire, the cloud and vapour of those cover God’s answering place, that is, the propitiatory, which is on the witnessing, that is, on the ark with the tables of (the) law, and he die not. (so that when the sweet smelling spices be put on the fire, their cloud and vapour cover the propitiatory, that is, the mercy seat, or the lid, which is on the Ark of the Witnessing, that is, the Box containing the tablets of the Law, and so he shall not die.)

¹⁴ Also Aaron shall take of the calf’s blood, and he shall sprinkle seven times with his finger against God’s answering place, eastward. (And Aaron shall take some of the calf’s blood, and he shall sprinkle it with his finger onto that lid, eastwards, and seven times in front of the propitiatory, that is, in front of the mercy seat.)

¹⁵ And when Aaron hath slain the goat buck, offered for the sin of the people, he shall bring in the blood thereof within the veil, as it is commanded of the calf’s blood, that he sprinkle it even against God’s answering place, (And when Aaron hath killed the goat buck, offered for the people’s sin, he shall bring in its blood within the Veil, as it is commanded of the calf’s blood, and sprinkle it on the propitiatory, and in front of it,)

¹⁶ and (so) he shall cleanse the saintuary from the uncleanness of the sons of Israel, and from their trespassings, and from all their sins. By this custom he shall do in the tabernacle of witnessing (or And by this custom he shall do all of this in the Tabernacle of the Witnessing), which is set among them, in the midst of the filths of the habitation of them.

¹⁹ and sprinkle he it seven times with his finger (or and with his finger sprinkle he some of the blood onto the altar seven times), and (so) cleanse he, and hallow he the altar from the uncleannesses of the sons of Israel.

²⁰ After that he hath cleansed the saintuary, and the tabernacle, and the altar, then offer he the living goat buck; (And after that he hath cleansed the sanctuary, and the Tabernacle, and the altar, then bring he forth the living goat for Azazel;)

²³ Aaron shall turn again into the tabernacle of witnessing (or Aaron shall return to the Tabernacle of the Witnessing); and when the clothes be put off, in which he was clothed before, when he entered into the saintuary of God, and those clothes be left there,

²⁴ he shall wash his flesh in the holy place, and he shall be clothed in his own clothes, and after that he hath gone out, and hath offered the burnt sacrifice of himself, and of the people, he shall pray as well for himself, as for the people; (he shall wash his flesh in a holy place, and he shall be clothed in his own clothes, and after that he hath gone out, and hath offered the burnt sacrifice for himself, and for the people, he shall pray for himself, as well as for the people;)

²⁵ and he shall burn on the altar the inner fatness which is offered for sin. (and he shall burn on the altar the inner fat of the sin offering.)

²⁶ Soothly he that let go the goat buck able to be sent out, shall wash his clothes and his body with water, and so he shall enter into the tents. (And he who drove the scapegoat into the desert, or into the wilderness, to Azazel, shall wash his clothes and his body in water, and then he shall return to the tents.)

²⁷ Forsooth they shall bear out of the tents the calf and the goat buck, that were offered for sin, and whose blood was brought into the saintuary, that the cleansing were fulfilled; and they shall burn in fire as well the skins, as the flesh, and the dung of those beasts. (And they shall carry away from the tents the calf and the goat buck, that were the sin offerings, and whose blood was brought into the sanctuary, so that the cleansing is fulfilled; and they shall burn in the fire the skins, and the flesh, and the dung of those beasts.)

²⁸ And whoever burneth those, he shall wash his clothes and flesh in water, and so he shall enter into the tents (or and then he shall return to the tents).

²⁹ And this shall be to you a lawful thing everlasting; in the seventh month, in the tenth day of the month, ye shall torment your souls, and ye shall not do any work, neither a man born in the land, neither a comeling that is a pilgrim among you. (And this shall be an everlasting law for you; in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall torment your souls, and ye shall not do any work, not someone born in the land, nor a newcomer who is a foreigner, or a stranger, among you.)

³⁰ The delivering from sin, and the cleansing of you, shall be in this day (or shall be on this day), (and) ye shall be cleansed before the Lord from all your sins;

³¹ for it is the sabbath of resting, and ye shall torment your souls by everlasting religion. (for it is a Sabbath of rest for you, and ye shall torment your souls; this is an everlasting law.)

¹ And the Lord spak to Moises, aftir the deeth of the twei sones of Aaron, whanne thei offriden alien fier, and weren slayn, and comaundide to hym,

² and seide, Speke thou to Aaron, thi brother, that he entre not in al tyme in to the seyntuarie, which is with ynne the veil bifor the propiciatorie, bi which the arke is hilid, that he die not; for Y schal appere in a cloude on Goddis answeryng place;

³ `no but he do these thingis bifore. He schal offer a calf for synne, and a ram in to brent sacrifice;

⁴ he schal be clothid with a lynnun coote, he schal hide the schamefast membris with pryuy lynnun clothis; he schal be gird with a lynnun girdil, he schal putte a lynnun mytre on his heed; for these clothis ben hooli, with whiche alle he schal be clothid, whanne he is waischun.

⁵ And he schal take of al the multitude of the sones of Israel twei kidis for synne, and o ram in to brent sacrifice;

⁶ and whanne he offrith a calf, and preieth for hym,

⁷ and for his hows, he schal make twei `buckis of geet to stonde bifor the Lord, in the dore of the tabernacle of witnessyng;

⁸ and he schal sende `on euer eithir, o lot to the Lord, and another lot to the goot that schal be sent out.

⁹ Whos lot goith out to the Lord, he schal offre it for synne;

¹⁰ sotheli whos lot goith out in to goot that schal be sent out, he schal sette hym quyk bifor the Lord, that he sende preyers `on hym, and sende hym out in to wildirnesse.

¹¹ Whanne these thingis ben doon riytfuli, he schal offre the calf, and `he schal preye for hym silf, and for his hows, and schal offre the calf.

¹² And whanne he hath take the censeer, which he hath fillid of the coolis of the auter, and `he hath take in hond the `swete smellynge spicery maad into encense, he schal entre ouer the veil in to the hooli thingis;

¹³ that whanne swete smellynge spiceries ben put on the fier, the cloude and `vapour of tho hile Goddis answeryng place, which is on the witnessyng, and he die not.

¹⁴ Also he schal take of the `blood of the calf, and he schal sprenge seuensithis with the fyngur ayens `the propiciatorie, `to the eest.

¹⁵ And whanne he hath slayn the `buk of geet, for synne of the puple, he schal brynge in the blood therof with ynne the veil, as it is comaundid of the `blood of the calf, that he sprynge euene ayens Goddis answeryng place,

¹⁶ and he schal clense the seyntuarie fro vnclennessis of the sones of Israel, and fro her trespassyngis, and alle synnes. Bi this custom he schal do in the tabernacle of witnessyng, which is set among hem, in the myddis of partis of the abitacioun `of hem.

¹⁷ No man be in the tabernacle, whanne the bischop schal entre in to the seyntuarie, that he preye for hym silf, and for his hows, and for al the cumpeny of Israel, til he go out of the tabernacle.

¹⁸ Sotheli whanne he hath go out to the auter which is bifor the Lord, preye he for hym silf, and schede he on the hornes therof, bi cumpas, the blood `that is takun of the calf, and of the `buk of geet;

¹⁹ and sprynge he seuensithis with the fyngur, and clense he, and halewe the autir fro vnclennessis of the sones of Israel.

²⁰ Aftir that he hath clensid the seyntuarie, and tabernacle, and auter, thanne offre he the lyuynge `buc of geet;

²¹ and whanne euer eithir hond is set on the heed therof, knowleche the preest alle the wickidnessis of the sones of Israel, and alle the trespassis and synnes `of hem, whiche the preest schal wische to the heed therof, and schal sende hym out in to deseert bi a man maad redi.

²² And whanne the `buc of geet hath bore alle the wickidnessis `of hem in to a deseert lond,

²³ and is left `in deseert, Aaron schal turn ayen in to the tabernacle of witnessyng; and whanne the clothis ben put of, in whiche he was clothid bifore, whanne he entrid in to the seyntuarie of God, and ben left there,

²⁴ he schal waische his fleisch in the hooli place, and he schal be clothid in his owen clothis, and aftir that he hath go out, and hath offrid the brent sacrifice of hym silf, and of the puple, he schal preye as wel for hym silf, as for the puple;

²⁵ and he schal brenne on the auter the innere fatnesse which is offrid for synne.

²⁶ Sotheli he that leet go the `buk of geet able to be sent out, schal waische hise clothis and bodi with water, and so he schal entre in to the castels.

²⁷ Forsothe thei schulen bere out of the castels the calf and `buk of geet, that weren offrid for synne, and whos blood was brouyt in to the seyntuarie, that the clensyng were fillid; and thei schulen brenne bi fier as well the skynnys, as the fleischis and dung of tho.

²⁸ And who euer brenneth tho, schal waische hise clothis and fleisch in watir, and so he schal entre in to the castels.

²⁹ And this schal be to you a lawful thing euerlastynge; in the seuenthe monethe, in the tenthe dai of the monethe, ye schulen turment youre soulis, and ye schulen not do ony werk, nethir a man borun in the lond, nether a comelyng which is a pilgrym among you.

³⁰ The delyueryng fro synne, and the clensyng of you schal be in this dai, ye schulen be clensid bifore the Lord fro alle youre synnes;

³¹ for it is sabat of restyng, and ye schulen turment youre soulis bi euerlastynge religioun.

¹ And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, in their drawing near before Jehovah, and they die;

² yea, Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Speak unto Aaron thy brother, and he cometh not in at all times unto the sanctuary within the vail, unto the front of the mercy-seat, which is upon the ark, and he dieth not, for in a cloud I am seen upon the mercy-seat.

³ 'With this doth Aaron come in unto the sanctuary; with a bullock, a son of the herd, for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering;

⁴ a holy linen coat he putteth on, and linen trousers are on his flesh, and with a linen girdle he girdeth himself, and with a linen mitre he wrappeth himself up; they are holy garments; and he hath bathed with water his flesh, and hath put them on.

⁵ 'And from the company of the sons of Israel he taketh two kids of the goats for a sin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering;

⁶ and Aaron hath brought near the bullock of the sin-offering which is his own, and hath made atonement for himself, and for his house;

⁷ and he hath taken the two goats, and hath caused them to stand before Jehovah, at the opening of the tent of meeting.

⁸ 'And Aaron hath given lots over the two goats, one lot for Jehovah, and one lot for a goat of departure;

⁹ and Aaron hath brought near the goat on which the lot for Jehovah hath gone up, and hath made it a sin-offering.

¹⁰ 'And the goat on which the lot for a goat of departure hath gone up is caused to stand living before Jehovah to make atonement by it, to send it away for a goat of departure into the wilderness.

¹¹ 'And Aaron hath brought near the bullock of the sin-offering which is his own, and hath made atonement for himself, and for his house, and hath slaughtered the bullock of the sin-offering which is his own,

¹² and hath taken the fulness of the censer of burning coals of fire from off the altar, from before Jehovah, and the fulness of his hands of thin spice-perfume, and hath brought it within the vail;

¹³ and he hath put the perfume on the fire before Jehovah, and the cloud of the perfume hath covered the mercy-seat which is on the testimony, and he dieth not.

¹⁴ 'And he hath taken of the blood of the bullock, and hath sprinkled with his finger on the front of the mercy-seat eastward; even at the front of the mercy-seat he doth sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.

¹⁵ 'And he hath slaughtered the goat of the sin-offering which is the people's, and hath brought in its blood unto the inside of the vail, and hath done with its blood as he hath done with the blood of the bullock, and hath sprinkled it on the mercy-seat, and at the front of the mercy-seat,

¹⁶ and he hath made atonement for the sanctuary because of the uncleanness of the sons of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins; and so he doth for the tent of meeting which is tabernacling with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.

¹⁷ 'And no man is in the tent of meeting in his going in to make atonement in the sanctuary, till his coming out; and he hath made atonement for himself, and for his house, and for all the assembly of Israel.

¹⁸ 'And he hath gone out unto the altar which is before Jehovah, and hath made atonement for it; and he hath taken of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and hath put on the horns of the altar round about;

¹⁹ and he hath sprinkled on it of the blood with his finger seven times, and hath cleansed it, and hath hallowed it from the uncleannesses of the sons of Israel.

²⁰ 'And he hath ceased from making atonement for the sanctuary, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, and hath brought near the living goat;

²¹ and Aaron hath laid his two hands on the head of the living goat, and hath confessed over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, and hath put them on the head of the goat, and hath sent it away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness;

²² and the goat hath borne on him all their iniquities unto a land of separation. 'And he hath sent the goat away into the wilderness,

²³ and Aaron hath come in unto the tent of meeting, and hath stripped off the linen garments which he had put on in his going in unto the sanctuary, and hath placed them there;

²⁴ and he hath bathed his flesh with water in the holy place, and hath put on his garments, and hath come out, and hath made his burnt-offering, and the burnt-offering of the people, and hath made atonement for himself and for the people;

²⁵ and with the fat of the sin-offering he doth make perfume on the altar.

²⁶ 'And he who is sending away the goat for a goat of departure doth wash his garments, and hath bathed his flesh with water, and afterwards he cometh in unto the camp.

²⁷ 'And the bullock of the sin-offering, and the goat of the sin-offering, whose blood hath been brought in to make atonement in the sanctuary, doth one bring out unto the outside of the camp, and they have burnt with fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung;

²⁸ and he who is burning them doth wash his garments, and hath bathed his flesh with water, and afterwards he cometh in unto the camp.

²⁹ 'And it hath been to you for a statute age-during, in the seventh month, in the tenth of the month, ye humble yourselves, and do no work — the native, and the sojourner who is sojourning in your midst;

³⁰ for on this day he maketh atonement for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins before Jehovah ye are clean;

³¹ it is to you a sabbath of rest, and ye have humbled yourselves — a statute age-during.
