⁵ And the coney, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you.

⁶ And the hare, because she cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, she is unclean unto you.

⁷ And the swine, because he parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, but cheweth not the cud, he is unclean unto you.

⁸ Of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcasses ye shall not touch; they are unclean unto you.

⁹ These may ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, that may ye eat.

¹⁰ And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination unto you,

¹¹ and they shall be an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses ye shall have in abomination.

¹² Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that is an abomination unto you.

¹³ And these ye shall have in abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the gier-eagle, and the ospray,

¹⁴ and the kite, and the falcon after its kind,

¹⁵ every raven after its kind,

¹⁶ and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kind,

¹⁷ and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,

¹⁸ and the horned owl, and the pelican, and the vulture,

¹⁹ and the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

²⁰ All winged creeping things that go upon all fours are an abomination unto you.

²¹ Yet these may ye eat of all winged creeping things that go upon all fours, which have legs above their feet, wherewith to leap upon the earth;

²² even these of them ye may eat: the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind.

²³ But all winged creeping things, which have four feet, are an abomination unto you.

²⁴ And by these ye shall become unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcass of them shall be unclean until the even;

²⁵ and whosoever beareth aught of the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

²⁶ Every beast which parteth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, is unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.

²⁷ And whatsoever goeth upon its paws, among all beasts that go on all fours, they are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcass shall be unclean until the even.

²⁸ And he that beareth the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you.

²⁹ And these are they which are unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth: the weasel, and the mouse, and the great lizard after its kind,

³⁰ and the gecko, and the land-crocodile, and the lizard, and the sand-lizard, and the chameleon.

³¹ These are they which are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they are dead, shall be unclean until the even.

³² And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherewith any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; then shall it be clean.

³³ And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean, and it ye shall break.

³⁴ All food therein which may be eaten, that on which water cometh, shall be unclean; and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean.

³⁵ And every thing whereupon any part of their carcass falleth shall be unclean; whether oven, or range for pots, it shall be broken in pieces: they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.

³⁶ Nevertheless a fountain or a pit wherein is a gathering of water shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcass shall be unclean.

³⁷ And if aught of their carcass fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it is clean.

³⁸ But if water be put upon the seed, and aught of their carcass fall thereon, it is unclean unto you.

³⁹ And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcass thereof shall be unclean until the even.

⁴⁰ And he that eateth of the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

⁵ And the rabbit, because it chews the cud, but does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

⁶ And the hare, because it does not chew the cud, and does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

⁷ And the swine, because this animal divides the hoof, and makes claws of the hoof, and it does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

¹³ And these are the things which ye shall abhor of birds, and they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle and the ossifrage, and the sea-eagle.

²¹ But these ye shall eat of the creeping winged animals, which go upon four feet, which have legs above their feet, to leap with on the earth.

²² And these of them ye shall eat: the caterpillar and his like, and the attacus and his like, and the cantharus and his like, and the locust and his like.

²³ Every creeping thing from among the birds, which has four feet, is an abomination to you.

²⁴ And by these ye shall be defiled; every one that touches their carcases shall be unclean till the evening.

²⁵ And every one that takes of their dead bodies shall wash his garments, and shall be unclean till the evening.

²⁶ And whichever among the beasts divides the hoof and makes claws, and does not chew the cud, shall be unclean to you; every one that touches their dead bodies shall be unclean till evening.

²⁷ And every one among all the wild beasts that moves upon its fore feet, which goes on all four, is unclean to you; every one that touches their dead bodies shall be unclean till evening.

²⁸ And he that takes of their dead bodies shall wash his garments, and shall be unclean till evening: these are unclean to you.

²⁹ And these are unclean to you of reptiles upon the earth, the weasel, and the mouse, and the lizard,

³⁰ the ferret, and the chameleon, and the evet, and the newt, and the mole.

³¹ These are unclean to you of all the reptiles which are on the earth; every one who touches their carcases shall be unclean till evening.

³² And on whatsoever one of their dead bodies shall fall it shall be unclean; whatever wooden vessel, or garment, or skin, or sack it may be, every vessel in which work should be done, shall be dipped in water, and shall be unclean till evening; and then it shall be clean.

³³ And every earthen vessel into which one of these things shall fall, whatsoever is inside it, shall be unclean, and it shall be broken.

³⁴ And all food that is eaten, on which water shall come from such a vessel, shall be unclean; and every beverage which is drunk in any such vessel, shall be unclean.

³⁵ And every thing on which there shall fall of their dead bodies shall be unclean; ovens and stands for jars shall be broken down: these are unclean, and they shall be unclean to you.

³⁶ Only if the water be of fountains of water, or a pool, or confluence of water, it shall be clean; but he that touches their carcases shall be unclean.

³⁷ And if one of their carcases should fall upon any sowing seed which shall be sown, it shall be clean.

³⁸ But if water be poured on any seed, and one of their dead bodies fall upon it, it is unclean to you.

³⁹ And if one of the cattle die, which it is lawful for you to eat, he that touches their carcases shall be unclean till evening.

⁴⁰ And he that eats of their carcases shall wash his garments, and be unclean till evening; and he that carries any of their carcases shall wash his garments, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean till evening.

⁵ Rock badgers chew their cuds but do not have split hooves, so they are unacceptable for you to eat.

⁶ Rabbits chew their cuds but do not have split hooves, so they are unacceptable for you to eat.

⁷ Pigs have completely split hooves but they do not chew their cuds, so they are unacceptable for you to eat.

⁸ All of those animals are unacceptable for you, so you must not eat their meat or even touch their carcasses.

⁹ From all the creatures that live in the oceans and the streams, you are permitted to eat any that have fins and scales.

¹⁰ But you must detest and not eat those that do not have fins and scales. That includes ones that are very small.

¹¹ You must despise them, and you must not eat their meat, and you must detest their carcasses.

¹² You must detest everything that lives in the water that does not have fins and scales.

¹³ There are some birds that you must detest and not eat. They include eagles, bearded vultures, black vultures,

¹⁴ kites, any kind of falcon/buzzard,

¹⁵ any kind of raven,

¹⁶ horned owls, screech owls, seagulls, any kind of hawk,

¹⁷ small owls, cormorants, large owls,

¹⁸ white owls, desert owls, vultures that eat dead animals,

¹⁹ storks, any kind of heron, hoopoes, and bats.

²⁰ You must detest and not eat flying insects that sometimes walk on the ground MTY.

²¹ But you are permitted to eat creatures with wings that sometimes walk on the ground if they have jointed legs for hopping around.

²² They include locusts, crickets, and grasshoppers.

²³ But you must detest and not eat other insects with wings that have four legs.

²⁴ There are certain creatures that if you touch their carcasses you will become defiled. Anyone who touches their carcasses must not touch other people until that evening.

²⁵ Anyone who picks up one of their carcasses must wash his clothes and not touch other people until that evening.

²⁶ The animals whose carcasses you must not touch are those that have hooves that are not completely divided or animals that do not chew their cuds. Anyone who touches the carcasses of any of those animals becomes ◄defiled/unacceptable to me►.

²⁷ From all the animals that walk on the ground, you must not touch the carcasses of those that have paws to walk on. Anyone who touches one of their carcasses must not touch other people until that evening.

²⁸ Anyone who picks up one of their carcasses must wash his clothes and not touch other people until that evening, because touching their carcasses ◄defiles you/causes you to become unacceptable to me►.

²⁹ From all the animals that walk on the ground, these are the ones that ◄defile you/cause you to become unacceptable to me► if you touch them: Moles, rats, any kind of lizard,

³⁰ geckos, skinks, and chameleons.

³¹ Those creatures that crawl along the ground ◄defile you/cause you to become unacceptable to me►; anyone who touches one of their carcasses must not touch other people until the evening.

³² When one of those creatures dies and falls on something, the thing that it falls on, whatever it is used for, will become ◄defiled/unacceptable to me►, whether it is made of wood or cloth or the hide of some animal or from rough cloth. You must put it in water. Then you must not use it until that evening.

³³ If one of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it becomes defiled, and you must break that pot into pieces.

³⁴ If you pour water from that pot on any food, you must not eat that food. And you must not drink any water from that pot.

³⁵ Anything that one of the carcasses of those creatures falls on becomes ◄defiled/unacceptable to me►; even if it falls on an oven or a cooking pot, anything that it falls on must be broken into pieces. It becomes unacceptable to me and you must not use it again.

³⁶ If one of their carcasses falls into a spring or a pit for storing water, the water may still be drunk, but anyone who touches one of those carcasses becomes unacceptable to me.

³⁷ If one of those carcasses falls on seeds that are to be planted, those seeds are still acceptable to be planted.

³⁸ But if water has been put on the seeds and then a carcass falls on them, the seeds must be thrown away.

³⁹ If an animal whose meat you are permitted to eat dies, anyone who touches its carcass must not touch other people until that evening.

⁴⁰ Anyone who eats some meat from that carcass must wash his clothes, and then he must not touch anyone until that evening.

⁵ And the rabbit, because it chews the cud, but does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

⁶ And the hare, because it does not chew the cud, and does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

⁷ And the swine, because this animal divides the hoof, and makes claws of the hoof, and it does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

⁸ You° shall not eat of their flesh, and you° shall not touch their carcases; these are unclean to you.

⁹ And these are what you° shall eat of all that are in the waters: all things that have fins and scales in the waters, and in the seas, and in the brooks, these you° shall eat.

²⁴ And by these you° shall be defiled; every one that touches their carcases shall be unclean till the evening.

⁹ These you may have for food of all things living in the water: anything living in the water, in the seas or rivers, which has special parts for swimming and skin formed of thin plates, may be used for food.

¹⁰ All other things living and moving in the water, in the sea or in the rivers, are a disgusting thing to you;

¹¹ They may not be used for food, and their dead bodies are disgusting to you.

¹² Anything in the water which has no special parts for swimming and no thin plates on its skin is disgusting to you.

¹³ And among birds these are to be disgusting to you, and not to be used for food: the eagle and the gier-eagle and the ospray;

¹⁴ And the kite and the falcon, and birds of that sort;

¹⁵ Every raven, and birds of that sort;

¹⁶ And the ostrich and the night-hawk and the sea-hawk, and birds of that sort;

¹⁷ And the little owl and the cormorant and the great owl;

¹⁸ And the water-hen and the pelican and the vulture;

¹⁹ The stork and the heron, and birds of that sort, and the hoopoe and the bat.

²⁰ Every winged four-footed thing which goes on the earth is disgusting to you;

²¹ But of the winged four-footed things, those which have long legs for jumping on the earth you may have for food;

²² Such as all the different sorts of locust.

²³ But all other winged four-footed things which go on the earth are disgusting to you.

²⁴ By these you will be made unclean; anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean till evening:

²⁵ Whoever takes away the dead body of one of them is to have his clothing washed, and will be unclean till evening.

²⁶ Every beast, in the horn of whose foot there is not a complete division, and whose food does not come back, is unclean to you: anyone touching one of these will be unclean.

²⁷ Any four-footed beast which goes on the ball of its foot, is unclean to you: anyone touching the dead body of one of these will be unclean till evening.

²⁸ Anyone who takes away the dead body of one of these is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening.

²⁹ And these are unclean to you among things which go low down on the earth; the weasel and the mouse and the great lizard, and animals of that sort;

³⁰ And the ferret and the land crocodile and the lizard and the sand-lizard and the chameleon.

³¹ All these are unclean to you: anyone touching them when they are dead will be unclean till evening.

³² The dead body of any of these, falling on anything, will make that thing unclean; if it is any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or bag, whatever it is, if it is used for any purpose, it will have to be put into water, and will be unclean till evening; after that it will be clean.

³³ And if one of them gets into any vessel of earth, whatever is in the vessel will be unclean and the vessel will have to be broken.

³⁴ Any food in it, and anything on which water from it comes, will be unclean: any drink taken from such a vessel will be unclean.

³⁵ Any part of the dead body of one of these, falling on anything, will make it unclean; if it is an oven or a cooking-pot it will have to be broken: they are unclean and will be unclean to you.

³⁶ But at the same time a fountain or a place where water is stored for use will be clean; but anyone touching their dead bodies will be unclean.

³⁷ If any part of the dead body of one of these gets on to any seed for planting, it is clean;

³⁸ But if water is put on the seed, and any part of the dead body gets on to it, it will be unclean to you.

³⁹ And if any beast which may be used for food comes to a natural death, anyone touching its dead body will be unclean till evening.

⁴⁰ And he who makes use of any part of its body for food is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening; and anyone taking away its body is to have his clothing washed and be unclean till evening.

²² These shall ye eat of them: the arbeh after its kind, and the solam after its kind, and the hargol after its kind, and the hargab after its kind.

³³ And every earthen vessel into which any of them falleth — whatever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.

³⁴ All food that is eaten on which such water hath come shall be unclean; and all drink that is drunk shall be unclean, in every such vessel.

³⁵ And everything where upon any part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; oven and hearth shall be broken down: they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.

³⁶ Nevertheless, a spring or a well, a quantity of water, shall be clean. But he that toucheth their carcase shall be unclean.

³⁷ And if any part of their carcase fall upon any sowing-seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean;

³⁸ but if water have been put on the seed, and any part of their carcase fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you.

³⁹ And if any beast which is to you for food die, he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even.

⁴⁰ And he that eateth of its carcase shall wash his garments, and be unclean until the even: he also that carrieth its carcase shall wash his garments, and be unclean until the even.

⁵ The cherogrillus which cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof, is unclean.

⁶ The hare also: for that too cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof.

⁷ And the swine, which, though it divideth the hoof, cheweth not the cud.

⁸ The flesh of these you shall not eat, nor shall you touch their carcasses, because they are unclean to you.

⁹ These are the things that breed in the waters, and which it is lawful to eat. All that hath fins, and scales, as well in the sea, as in the rivers, and the pools, you shall eat.

¹⁰ But whatsoever hath not fins and scales, of those things that move and live in the waters, shall be an abomination to you,

¹¹ And detestable: their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall avoid.

¹² All that have not fins and scales, in the waters, shall be unclean.

¹³ Of birds these are they which you must not eat, and which are to be avoided by you: The eagle, and the griffon, and the osprey,

¹⁴ And the kite, and the vulture, according to their kind,

¹⁵ And all that is of the raven kind, according to their likeness.

¹⁶ The ostrich, and the owl, and the larus, and the hawk according to its kind.

¹⁷ The screech owl, and the cormorant, and the ibis,

¹⁸ And the swan, and the bittern, and the porphyrion,

¹⁹ The heron, and the charadrion according to its kind, the houp also, and the bat.

²⁰ Of things that fly, whatsoever goeth upon four feet, shall be abominable to you.

²¹ But whatsoever walketh upon four feet, but hath the legs behind longer, wherewith it hoppeth upon the earth,

²² That you shall eat, as the bruchus in its kind, the attacus, and ophiomachus, and the locust, every one according to their kind.

²³ But of dying things whatsoever hath four feet only, shall be an abomination to you:

²⁴ And whosoever shall touch the carcasses of them, shall be defiled, and shall be unclean until the evening:

²⁵ And if it be necessary that he carry any of these things when they are dead, he shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the sun set.

²⁶ Every beast that hath a hoof, but divideth it not, nor cheweth the cud, shall be unclean: and he that toucheth it, shall be defiled.

²⁷ That which walketh upon hands of all animals which go on all four, shall be unclean: he that shall touch their carcasses shall be defiled until evening.

³² And upon what thing soever any of their carcasses shall fall, it shall be defiled, whether it be a vessel of wood, or a garment, or skins or haircloths; or any thing in which work is done, they shall be dipped in water, and shall be unclean until the evening, and so afterwards shall be clean.

³³ But an earthen vessel, into which any of these shall fall, shall be defiled, and therefore is to be broken.

³⁴ Any meat which you eat, if water from such a vessel be poured upon it, shall be unclean; and every liquor that is drunk out of any such vessel, shall be unclean.

³⁵ And upon whatsoever thing any of these dead beasts shall fall, it shall be unclean: whether it be oven, or pots with feet, they shall be destroyed, and shall be unclean.

³⁶ But fountains and cisterns, and all gatherings together of waters shall be clean. He that toucheth their carcasses shall be defiled.

³⁷ If it fall upon seed corn, it shall not defile it.

³⁸ But if any man pour water upon the seed, and afterwards it be touched by the carcasses, it shall be forthwith defiled.

³⁹ If any beast die, of which it is lawful for you to eat, he that toucheth the carcass thereof, shall be unclean until the evening:

⁴⁰ And he that eateth or carrieth any thing thereof, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the evening.

⁵ The rock hyrax, which though it chews the cud doesn't have a divided hoof, so it is unclean for you.

⁶ The hare, which though it chews the cud doesn't have a divided hoof, so it is unclean for you.

⁷ The pig, which though it has a divided hoof doesn't chew the cud, so it is unclean for you.

⁸ You are not to eat their meat or touch their bead bodies. They are unclean for you.

⁹ You are allowed to eat any creature with fins and scales that lives in the water, whether in the sea or in fresh water.

¹⁰ But you are not allowed to eat any of the many creatures that don't have fins and scales that live in the water, whether in the sea or in fresh water.

¹¹ They are repulsive. You must not eat their meat, and you must treat their dead bodies as repulsive.

¹² All such water creatures that don't have fins and scales are to be repulsive to you.

¹³ As for the birds, these must not be eaten because they are repulsive: eagle, griffon vulture, bearded vulture,

¹⁴ buzzard, kite and similar birds of prey,

¹⁵ any raven or crow,

¹⁶ tawny owl, long-eared owl, gulls, any kind of hawk,

¹⁷ little owl, fish owl, eagle owl,

¹⁸ barn owl, desert owl, Egyptian vulture,

¹⁹ storks and any kind of heron, hoopoe, and bats.

²⁰ All flying insects that crawl are repulsive to you.

²¹ But you can eat the following kinds of flying insects that crawl: those that have jointed legs they use to jump.

²² So in this category you can eat any kind of locust, bald locust, cricket, or grasshopper.

²³ All other flying insects that crawl are repulsive to you,

²⁴ and will make you unclean. If you touch their dead bodies you will be unclean until the evening,

²⁵ and if you pick up one of their dead bodies you must wash your clothes, and you will be unclean until the evening.

²⁶ Every animal with hooves that are not divided, or that does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. If you touch any of them you will be unclean.

²⁷ Any four-legged animal that walks on its paws are unclean for you. If you touch their dead bodies you will be unclean until the evening,

²⁸ and if you pick up one of their dead bodies you must wash your clothes, and you will be unclean until the evening. They are unclean for you.

²⁹ The following animals that run along the ground are unclean for you: rats, mice, any kind of large lizard,

³⁰ gecko, monitor lizard, wall lizard, skinks, and chameleon.

³¹ These animals that run along the ground are unclean for you. If you touch a dead one of them you will be unclean until the evening.

³² Anything that one of them dies and lands on becomes unclean. Whatever it is—something made of wood, clothing, leather, sackcloth, or any work tool—it must be washed with water and will be unclean until the evening. Then it will become clean.

³³ If one of them falls into a clay pot, all that's in it becomes unclean. You must smash the pot.

³⁴ If water from that pot touches any food, that food becomes unclean, and any drink from a pot like that also becomes unclean.

³⁵ Anything that one of their dead bodies falls on becomes unclean. If it's an oven or a stove, it must be smashed. It is permanently unclean for you.

³⁶ On the other hand, if it's a spring or cistern containing water then it will remain clean, but if you touch one of these dead bodies in it you will be unclean.

³⁷ Similarly, if one of their dead bodies falls on any seed used for sowing, the seed remains clean;

³⁸ but if the seed has been soaked in water and one of their dead bodies falls on it, it is unclean for you.

³⁹ If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the dead body will be unclean until the evening.

⁴⁰ If you eat anything from the dead body you must wash your clothes and you will be unclean until the evening. If you pick up the dead body you must wash your clothes and you will be unclean until the evening.

⁵ Likewise the conie, because he cheweth the cud and deuideth not the hoofe, he shall bee vncleane to you.

⁶ Also the hare, because he cheweth the cud, and deuideth not the hoofe, he shalbe vncleane to you.

⁷ And the swine, because he parteth ye hoofe and is clouen footed, but cheweth not the cud, he shalbe vncleane to you.

⁸ Of their flesh shall yee not eate, and their carkeise shall yee not touch: for they shall bee vncleane to you.

⁹ These shall ye eate, of all that are in the waters: whatsoeuer hath finnes and skales in ye waters, in the seas, or in the riuers, them shall ye eate.

²⁶ The carcasses of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not cloven-footed, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean to you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.

³⁶ Nevertheless, a fountain or pit, in which there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcass shall be unclean.

³⁷ And if any part of their carcass shall fall upon any sowing-seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean.

³⁸ But if any water shall be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcass shall fall on it, it shall be unclean to you.

³⁹ And if any beast, of which ye may eat, shall die; he that toucheth its carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

²¹ soothly whatever thing goeth on four feet, but hath longer hips behind, by which it skippeth on the earth, ye shall eat;

²² as is a bruchus, that is, the fruit of locusts before it hath wings, in his kind, and accatus, that is, the fruit of locusts when it beginneth to have wings, and ophimachus, that is, a foul enemy to serpents, and a locust, all by their kind.

²³ Forsooth whatever thing of birds or insects hath four feet only, it shall be abominable to you;

²⁴ and whoever toucheth their bodies dead by themselves, shall be polluted, or defouled, and shall be unclean till to eventide;

²⁵ and if it is need, that he bear any dead thing of these or them, he shall wash his clothes, and he shall be unclean till to the going down of the sun.

³⁹ If a beast is dead, which it is leaveful to you to eat, (or If a beast dieth naturally, which it is lawful for you to eat), he that toucheth the dead body thereof shall be unclean till to eventide;

⁴⁰ and he that eateth thereof anything, either beareth it, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean till to eventide.

⁵ A cirogrille, which chewith code, and departith not the clee, is vnclene; and an hare,

⁶ for also he chewith code, but departith not the clee;

⁷ and a swiyn, that chewith not code, thouy he departith the clee.

⁸ Ye schulen not ete the fleischis of these, nether ye schulen touche the deed bodies, for tho ben vnclene to you.

⁹ Also these thingis ben that ben gendrid in watris, and is leueful to ete;

¹⁰ ye schulen ete al thing that hath fynnes and scalis, as wel in the see, as in floodis and stondynge watris; sotheli what euer thing of tho that ben moued and lyuen in watris, hath not fynnes and scalis, schal be abhominable, and wlatsum to you;

²⁶ Sotheli ech beeste that hath a clee, but departith not it, nether chewith code, schal be vnclene; and what euer thing touchith it, schal be defoulid.

²⁹ Also these thingis schulen be arettid among defoulid thingis, of these that ben moued on erthe; a wesele, and mows, and a cocodrille, `alle bi her kynde;

³⁰ mygal, camelion, and stellio, and lacerta, and a maldewerp.

³¹ Alle these ben vnclene; he that touchith her bodies deed bi hem silf, schal be vnclene `til to euentid;

³² and that thing schal be defoulid, on which ony thing of her bodies deed bi hem silf fallith, as wel a vessel of tree, and a cloth, as skynnes `and heiris; and in what euer thing werk is maad, it schal be dippid in watir, and tho thingis schulen be defoulid `til to euentid, and so aftirward tho schulen be clensid.

³³ Sotheli a vessel of erthe, in which ony thing of these fallith with ynne, schal be defoulid, and therfor it schal be brokun.

³⁴ Ech mete, which ye schulen ete, schal be vnclene, if water is sched thereon; and ech fletynge thing, which is drunkun of ech vessel, `where ynne vnclene thingis bifelden, schal be vnclene;

³⁵ and what euer thing of siche deed bodies bi hem silf felde theronne, it schal be vnclene, whether furneisis, ethir vessels of thre feet, tho schulen be destried, and schulen be vnclene.

¹² 'Any one that hath not fins and scales in the waters — an abomination it is to you.

¹³ 'And these ye do abominate of the fowl; they are not eaten, an abomination they are: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,

¹⁴ and the vulture, and the kite after its kind,

¹⁵ every raven after its kind,

¹⁶ and the owl, and the night-hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after its kind,

¹⁷ and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,

¹⁸ and the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle,

¹⁹ and the stork, the heron after its kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

²⁰ 'Every teeming creature which is flying, which is going on four — an abomination it is to you.

²¹ 'Only — this ye do eat of any teeming thing which is flying, which is going on four, which hath legs above its feet, to move with them on the earth;

²² these of them ye do eat: the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the beetle after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind;

²³ and every teeming thing which is flying, which hath four feet — an abomination it is to you.

²⁴ 'And by these ye are made unclean, any one who is coming against their carcase is unclean till the evening;

²⁵ and anyone who is lifting up aught of their carcase doth wash his garments, and hath been unclean till the evening: —

²⁶ even every beast which is dividing the hoof, and is not cloven-footed, and the cud is not bringing up — unclean they are to you; any one who is coming against them is unclean.

²⁷ 'And any one going on its paws, among all the beasts which are going on four — unclean they are to you; any one who is coming against their carcase is unclean until the evening;

²⁸ and he who is lifting up their carcase doth wash his garments, and hath been unclean until the evening — unclean they are to you.

²⁹ 'And this is to you the unclean among the teeming things which are teeming on the earth: the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after its kind,

³⁰ and the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole;

³¹ these are the unclean to you among all which are teeming; any one who is coming against them in their death is unclean till the evening.

³² 'And anything on which any one of them falleth, in their death, is unclean, of any vessel of wood or garment or skin or sack, any vessel in which work is done is brought into water, and hath been unclean till the evening, then it hath been clean;

³³ and any earthen vessel, into the midst of which any one of them falleth, all that is in its midst is unclean, and it ye do break.

³⁴ 'Of all the food which is eaten, that on which cometh such water, is unclean, and all drink which is drunk in any such vessel is unclean;

³⁵ and anything on which any of their carcase falleth is unclean (oven or double pots), it is broken down, unclean they are, yea, unclean they are to you.

³⁶ 'Only — a fountain or pit, a collection of water, is clean, but that which is coming against their carcase is unclean;

³⁷ and when any of their carcase falleth on any sown seed which is sown — it is clean;

³⁸ and when water is put on the seed, and any of its carcase hath fallen on it — unclean it is to you.

³⁹ 'And when any of the beasts which are to you for food dieth, he who is coming against its carcase is unclean till the evening;

⁴⁰ and he who is eating of its carcase doth wash his garments, and hath been unclean till the evening; and he who is lifting up its carcase doth wash his garments, and hath been unclean till the evening.
